An Inside Look at Sports Psychology
Introduction
Sports psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes while participating
in sport (Robert Weinberg, 2010.). Academic sports psychology looks at the factors that affect
participation and performance in sport. Areas that are covered in the academic research and theory are
the person s personality, attitudes, anxiety, stress and motivation (class notes, 2014).
After carefully analysing the five forces of sports psychology (psychodynamic, behaviourism,
cognition, humanist and Nero linguistic processing) the athlete or coach will be given additional ways
to recognise either their own or others behaviour, understanding and rethinking their own or others
action and perceptions.
Psychodynamic:

As a second year sports student I participated in playing soccer for the college. My aim was to try and
do my best and show the coach how well I could play. I applied for the sports scholarship with hope of
maybe being awarded it. I went to every training session and match and gave 100 percent commitment
to the team. On one of the match days we had a very strong team playing and give our best shot to win
it. During the match the opposite team were getting very frustrated as we were beating them 2 nil.
Behind the referees back one of the players turned around and shoved me to the ground. The referee
did not see any of it happening so nothing was done about it. When I tried to react to the stimulus
response she ended up worse and I was sent off. As a result of this it was taken into

Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based...
There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based
instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However,
most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit plans
and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and lessons
with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary teachers have. A
lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which helps meet the demands
of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry based learning as a new
pedagogy (Guido, 2017). However, Minner, Levy Century (2009) suggest that ... Show more content

inquiry based thinking processes by posing different kinds of questions. This is to help students to
internalize and ask themselves as they learn to become independent problem solvers. Ontario Science

classrooms with the first type being different. However, both authors discuss structured inquiry,
guided inquiry and open inquiry. The Ontario Science Centre (2016) Ontario Ministry of Education

Aoteaora New Zealand s Society Essay
Biculturalism has a massive role in Aoteaora New Zealand s society and has a massive impact in its
history. Having a clear understanding of it is crucial in order to be more appreciative of how diverse
New Zealand s society has become, and it also helps us discern the negative aspects of diversity and
multiculturalism. By examining and understanding biculturalism, it helps us discern the Treaty of
Waitangi s role and influences in the human services provision here in New Zealand.
Biculturalism is quite a specific concept, but there are many diverse perceptions and interpretations on
what it should look like. Ultimately, we can define biculturalism as two distinct cultures that exist in
the same place and country (Random House Kernerman Webster s College Dictionary, 2010).
Biculturalism in New Zealand refers to the two dominant cultures here, which are Maori and Pakeha
(Ritchie, 1992). It has been known that New Zealand, before the Treaty of Waitangi was established,
was widely a bicultural nation. The British settlers and Maori were exploring and examining ways to
live in parallel with each other (Hayward, 2012). New Zealand was bicultural in multiple ways as both
communities were effective in living within their own cultures in the same land. Throughout the years,
Maori and Pakeha have learned each other s ways of living resulting in the adaption of both cultures.
This raises the first bicultural people of New Zealand, the Maori Pakeha; Pakeha that lived in Maori

Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas
In Dr. Seuss , How the Grinch Stole Christmas it is apparent that there are socioeconomic factors that
influences characters, settings and plot. The poem focuses on the relationship with lower and upper
classes along with the economic conditions between the Grinch and the Whos. . The story revolves
around the Grinch and his despise for Christmas. He lives just outside of Whoville where all the Whos
live. The Grinch represents the lower class for the main reason is that he struggles financially. The
line, Every Who Down in Whoville Liked Christmas a lot... But the Grinch, Who lived just north of
Whoville, Did NOT! (Seuss 1 6) demonstrates that the Grinch is of a lower class because he does not
live in the same community as the Whos. The Whos on the other hand are in a higher class as they are

Throughout the poem the Grinch associates Christmas with materials like, Checkerboards! Tricycles!
Popcorn! And plums! (Seuss 86). He believes that items and possession provide happiness, so if he
cannot afford to buy the materialistic things he won t be happy and can t be part of the financially
higher class like the Whos. The Grinch s despise towards the Whos makes him to want to take away
all their happiness by stealing the children s toys. He wants the Whos to feel the same despair and
sadness he feels. When it states, Then he slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant, Around
the whole room, and he took every present (Seuss 83) it is evident that readers are able to see the
satisfaction that the Grinch has when he steals the gifts. This shows how important materialistic things
are to the Grinch. He thinks that materialistic things are necessary to one s happiness and without it

How To Increase Crime In America
There are many time periods that I am fond of but I think my favorite time period is the 1950s. I think
I would be happy during that time period because everything was simpler and more safe. Children
could play outside without their parent worrying because most people just left them alone and
kidnapping was unheard of. Most people also lived in the suburbs and I think I would be able to fit
into that life nicely. I already live next to my grandparents and one of my brothers so living next to
more nice people would not have been a problem for me. Elvis was also live alive and rock and roll
was too. The music was more pure and pleasant back then, not like the music we have now.

The baby boom occurred at this time because many Americans believed that since the war was over all
the bad times were also over. There was an increase in the national gross product mostly from the
construction of roads and other national improvements. Wages were high and most people had jobs so
there was more money that people had access to. People were able to spend more money for things
they like and there were many advancements that gave them things to want. There was also a civil
rights movement that was becoming popular and was flourishing. Separate but equal facilities were
ruled against the law so the integration of African Americans into white facilities began. Nonviolent
resistance was common unlike today when protests are more frequent than peaceful protests. There
was not as much anger between the races as there is now but instead there was a sense of
dissatisfaction. Nonviolent protests were still the most popular form of expression even with the level
of satisfaction that was present. The violent protests that occur now are probably due to the higher
crime rate. Protests now also involve theft as well as the violence toward cops and even regular
citizens. While the protest is going on the focus of the policemen are on the main group of protestors

Tennyson Owen
War Poems Their Ideas The poems, The Charge of The Light Brigade and Dulce et Decorum Est, both
deal with an idea of war. The writers both have the same viewpoint about war, but the way that they
articulate those ideas on paper varies. Through literary devices in the poems, the authors show two
different wars, but the same tragic outcome death. These two poems showcase how people can have
different outlooks on war, but in the end they all end with the same deadly outcome. These writers,
Wilfred Owen and Alfred Lord Tennyson, uses tone, metaphor or repetition, and rhyming and diction

The tone that Alfred Lord Tennyson created for this poem has an honorable and celebratory feel to it
for those whom were lost. The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war and how we
should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes their country better.
Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his poem as well. His poem takes
on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece, Owen is showing us how war is
bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won t like the conclusion that results from
them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a more negative look on the actions of war. An
example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza. According to the Bloom s Literary Reference
Online, The first stanza presents a scene saturated with misery. (Dulce et Decorum Est) Throughout
the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of misery, awful challenges, and death all negative feelings.
We can see in the last couple of lines of the poem how Owen really felt about war, The old Lie, Dulce
et Decorum est / Pro patria mori. (27 28) This roughly translates to it is sweet and right to die for your
country. It is a wonderful thing that one could die for their country, the soldiers should be filled with
honor to do so. But Wilfred Owen tells us

High Park Fire Case Study
1.Introduction On June 9, 2012 the High Park Fire took place about 15 miles west of Fort Collins,
Colorado. Itwas started by a lightning strike and fueled by high winds and dry vegetation, the fire
grew to be the third largest fire in Colorado history. Residents were instructed to take precautions if
they could see or smell smoke, and a Fort Collins hospital reported an increase in emergency room
visits related to smoke inhalation. Much of the fuel for the High Park Fire came from stands of trees
that have been killed by beetles (BAER Report, 2012). This paper will discuss methods of remote

Statistically Valid Sampling Framework For the core indicators and methods to provide defensible
resource information at multiple scales a georeferenced, statistically valid sampling framework is
necessary. This sampling framework consists of a low intensity grid that can be intensified for local
monitoring needs or supplemented with other probability based samples, all of which can be used to
train remote imagery. An unbiased, statistically valid sampling framework will permit locally
collected data to be combined with regional or national level data to improve estimates at larger
scales. Further, the framework will provide the ability to defensibly answer resource questions about
large tracts of land, with relatively few sample locations, and allow for sample site relocation if an
original site is disturbed (Toevs et al. 2011). Sample locations should be established according to a
probabilistic sample design by dividing the total area into sample plots. Sample plots are chosen in a

Strength is In the Eye of the Beholder
In my quest to create a well rounded and A+ worthy essay about Shakespeare s As You Like It, I came
upon key elements of popular culture pertaining to feminism and the rhetoric used to describe it. Of
course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a
moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling
ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray
what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus
redefining a more positive representation of women. Without this awareness, young adults will
continue to believe that a strong woman falls into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not rely on super human ability or talent, but instead hard work and perseverance. She is
truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each
of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it.
This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former
cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while
superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman
when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she
ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only
strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as
strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically.
To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their
femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences
it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and
women. People find comfort in tradition, and Shakespeare provides closure by having Rosalind spend
the entire play working towards getting a man, and then returning

Mc Organic Acid
After exposing the sample to UV radiation the visible band is determine to be at the maximum
absorbance, as shown in Figure 1. This absorbance band at 563 nm and 579 nm corresponds to the
reaction SP → MC. By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to construct a
linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The corresponding rate
constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we increase [SP] the rate
is relatively constant. Further, this reaction was done on different solvents, which includes acetone and
cyclohexane. Following Table 2, it seems that with the addition of cyclohexane, the rate of decay of
MC is faster. This indicates that due to the non polar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the inclusion of an organic acid, it protonates the MC to form MCH+. This compound itself has a
different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in acetone and 453
nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+→ MC → SP, the
corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the
addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. However, increasing acid
concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it
will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back into SP. Again, comparing the rate of
decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined that the environment did not have a drastic
effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of the rate of decay was calculated for the first four
samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and 0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively,
which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %. The inconsistency with these values was most likely
caused by the insufficient time interval for the monitoring of the decay of

Nurses who do not take care of themselves may be too tired physically and mentally to provide

To be a nurse healer, a nurse must take care of their physical and psychological well being. The nurse
should get regular physical exams with routine blood test. The nurse should also have exercise regime
that will fit into her busy schedule. It can be taking a walk in the park, breathing exercises or dancing
to music. Healthy eating habits are also essential components for nurse healers. Eating foods with
fruits and vegetables can increase nurses energy levels to assist them with their rigorous work

Compassion is an important component of providing excellent care and helps with the healing process.
Compassion allows the patient to feel at ease to communicate with the nurse by feeling that there

The Toronto Maple Leafs And The Nhl
May 13, 2013 A day that will go down in history as one of the most devastating days for fans of the
Toronto Maple Leafs. After an 113 day lockout at the beginning of the season, the Leafs made the
playoffs for the first time in 9 years. They were playing the Boston Bruins in the first round and made
it all the way to game 7. Leafs fans around the world were glued to their TV s as they watched their
team build a seemingly impenetrable 4 1 lead with 15 minutes to go in the third period, all they had to
do was hang on to it... The Bruins added a second goal with 9:18 remaining, and then the unthinkable
happened. In the span of thirty one seconds, Boston netted their third and fourth of the game to tie
things up with only seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime. There s nothing more exciting

Comparing Knowledge in Descartes’ Meditations on First...
Comparing Knowledge in Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy and Hume s An Enquiry
Concerning Human Understanding,
Rationalists would claim that knowledge comes from reason or ideas, while empiricists would answer
that knowledge is derived from the senses or impressions. The difference between these two
philosophical schools of thought, with respect to the distinction between ideas and impressions, can be
examined in order to determine how these schools determine the source of knowledge. The
distinguishing factor that determines the perspective on the foundation of knowledge is the concept of
the divine.
Descartes is a prime example of a rationalist. Descartes begins his Meditations on First ... Show more

Once the certainty of Res Cogitans is developed, clear and distinct perceptions are replaced with clear
and distinct ideas. It is these ideas from which Descartes derive knowledge, including the existence of
Res Extensa (corporeal things). Therefore, Descartes, a rationalist, derives his knowledge from ideas
and reason, all of which stem from an instance of natural light.
The empiricists, however, do not believe in natural light and therefore do not hold knowledge to be
derived from these innate ideas. David Hume is one of these empiricists. Hume was a scientist and an
atheist; his occupation and beliefs disallowed him from holding innate ideas to be a valid basis for
knowledge. In An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume points out a hierarchy that exists
among ideas and impressions: the most lively thought is still inferior to the most lively impression
(Hume: 10). Hume also establishes that for all of his ideas he can trace them back to impressions,
those for things which he has not had impressions of he cannot have an idea. What never was seen, or
heard of, may yet be conceived: (Hume: 11) A blind man can form no notion of colours; a deaf man of
sounds (Hume: 12).
From these impressions and ideas stem two kinds of knowledge: relations of ideas and matters of fact.
Relation of ideas are a priori and do not need to be

The Values-Based Leadership
Leadership is an act of leading a group of people to achieve a common goal. There are many styles of
leadership like autocratic, democratic, laissez faire, narcissistic and toxic leadership. Today, I m going
to discuss about the value based leadership. This is an effective approach to lead your subordinates by
understanding organization and your personal values.
Values based is a very indefinable term and theory, apparently commonly understood but perhaps not
adequately or correctly. Value based leadership is connecting employees values with the organization
goals. Leaders must communicate with to manage short and long term results. Leaders should talk
about trade offs, priorities, values and connections. Value based leadership is aligning personnel and
organization values. It means employees and managers must behave in such a way which is important
for the productivity, profitability, sustainability and integrity of the business. This approach of
leadership is to identify your own beliefs, education, priorities and values which effects your way how
you lead others, make decisions and handle conflicts.
Value based leadership has following important characteristics:
Vision:
The values based leadership is focused on a motivating vision. The leader must be able to build a
vision that the followers are capable to adopt as their own vision. The leader s vision should become
vision of followers because it is constructed on their needs and hopes.

Marginal Costs And Its Effect On Market Efficiency
Marginal costs and benefits are utilized as a form of measurement of costs and benefits at a specific
level of production and consumption. Everyday individuals, groups, and institutions make decisions
based on our marginal evaluations of the alternatives. They do this by asking questions: What will it
cost to produce one more unit , and What benefit will be received by acquiring one more unit ? In this
essay, the author will define and discuss marginal costs and benefits and their effect on market
efficiency in the presence or absence of externalities.
What Are Marginal Costs and Marginal Benefits?

the consumer to buy widgets, the owner must either lower the price or offer some other promotional

According to the law of diminishing marginal utility, as a person increases consumption of a product,
while keeping consumption of other products constant, there is a decline in the marginal utility that
person derives from consuming each additional unit of that product (Urban Economics, 8E). As the
marginal benefit for widgets declines among your customer base, so does the price they are willing to
pay which in turn affects your marginal benefit as a widget producer.
Marginal cost is the total cost you incur to produce one more unit (Urban Economics, 8E). Following

Marxist Theory And Psychoanalytic Theories
Marxist and Psychoanalytic Literary Theories in Action Marxist/Materialist Theory and
Psychoanalytic Theory are important theories in understanding individuals and societies. They allow
readers to understand how societies and individuals function and their motives. Marxist/Materialist
Theory mostly focuses on societies and different classes and the relationships between the two.
Psychoanalytic Theory focuses on the characters wants, needs, actions, and process of thought that

Lastly, Marxist theory would be beneficial to western/ historical novels that show the disputes

Psychoanalytic theory would be helpful in explicating melodramas such as Dracula because they

romance novels because Freud main foundation for Psychoanalytic theory is on sex. Psychoanalytic
theory is useful in dystopian novels as well and almost any genre when a reader or theorist uses it to

The Westing Game By Ellen Raskin
In the book, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, the conclusion is what summarized the plot of the
book. Knowing this, one might agree the way the ending was written was very effective. The owner of
the Westing Paper Products Company, Sam Westing, was murdered. Sixteen people are called to
Sunset Towers to participate in the reading of the will. Little did they know that the will was only
going to unleash the monster in them all. The will of Sam Westing went on to say that one of the
sixteen people in the room was a murderer, the same murderer that ended his life. Everyone would be
paired into teams. Clues were spread out among the pairs of two and the game began. 200 million
dollars was offered to the person who uncovered the secrets to ... Show more content on

Sam Westing, all along, had been pretending to be other people. They were Sam Westing, Barney
Northrup, Sandy McSouthers, and Julian R. Eastman. His costumes included the four directions. This
leads into the resolution by cluing the reader into future events. By the time Turtle figures this out she
finds Sam Westing. He is still alive. This creates a huge plot twist. Throughout the whole book, Sam
was thought to be dead. Turtle had won the game. This fact satisfies many reader s thoughts about the
book. There was a winner to the Westing Game. The will was fulfilled and through the fact that it was,
the resolution and ending of the book was effective. In addition to how the will was fulfilled, another
reason that was brought into the book was about the fact Turtle s life had been changed for the better.
Throughout the book, she is ignored by her mother. Her mother favored Turtle s older sister, Angela.
Because T.R. won the game, she received the money start a new life. She went to school and
graduated out of Business College. Because the book mentions this part of her life, the reader is
convinced the book sums up the plot and main character s life entirely. She also married one of the
other sixteen heirs. His name was Theo. The will was the reason T.R. was introduced to Theo.
Learning this convinces the reader that the book had a well written ending. Because T.R. had found
that Sam was still alive, she came to visit him

If the powder dissolves then to make sure it is ionic or a type of covalent pour the 150 ml of ethanol
into a beaker and pour 1.5 grams of the same powder into the chemical, if the powder dissolves it is
covalent but if it doesn t dissolve its ionic.
8. Record all observations on the reaction of the water and ethanol
9. Repeat steps 1 8 for other 5 powders
Melting Point procedure:
1. Take the aluminum dish and separate the middle using a pencil
2. Put 3 grams of two different powders in the separate panels
3. Put the retort stand over the Bunsen burner
4. Turn the Bunsen burner on and set a specific temperature(start low) place the aluminum dish on the
retort stand above the Bunsen burner
5. If the powder does not burn then raise the temperature to a very high temp.
6. If the powder melts at a high temperature (800 plus) then its ionic but if it melts at a low temp its
covalent
7. Make sure to use the infrared thermometer to check what temperature the powder started melting at
and record the reaction and what temperature the powder melted at
8. Repeat steps 1 7 for the other powders

Flight Essay
You guys will never believe what happened to me on my flight. You know what a grumpy flier I am,
too, so you ll all find this super entertaining, I m sure.
I m sitting on my plane from Hartford to New Orleans. I have an aisle seat, of course, and I m hoping
it s not a full flight.
Yeah, right.
It s practically standing room only, and I can feel the plane getting warmer as passengers pack in like
sardines. There are few things worse than being trapped in a metal container with 200 of your closest
sweaty friends. A splitting headache and a spoiled appetite means I m about as warm and pleasant as a
female anglerfish.

Oh, yes. Awesome. Super. We ve got a talker. An oblivious talker. Someone give this guy a

New Orleans, I say with almost a maniacal smile this time, flicking my head in his direction
dramatically, then back down just as quickly this time without removing my earbuds.
Oh, I ve been there! Now he s going to proceed to tell me why he was there, who he knows there,
what they did there, what they ate, how they were feeling, what shoes he was wearing. Then he s
going to ask why I m going there. He s going to be surprised when I tell him I m from there and ask
why I left and how I chose my college and what I studied and what I do now and how I m liking it and
all the polite conversation you re supposed to make with a plane passenger who does not have

My left eye twitches. The kid...I d almost forgotten about the kid. She wriggles out of her seatbelt and

Graphite Research Paper
Carbon is a light atom with 6 protons and usually 6 neutrons in its nucleus. Sometimes Carbon can
contain 8 neutrons but in that form the nucleus is unstable. With the nucleus being unstable, the
element falls apart through radioactive decay. This rate of decay is consistent over long periods of
time. Because this certain type of carbon (Carbon 14) is in many materials, measuring the amount of
carbon 14 in that material lets us figure out that material s age. This is known as carbon dating.
(Miodownik, 2013) The six electrons that are around the nucleus are very important. 2 of the 6
electrons are deep at the inner core and don t have an effect on the interaction with other elements.
The 4 electrons on the outermost layer are active. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemical bonds in graphite are stronger than those in Diamond. Diamonds have 3 layers of carbon

The layers slide across each other making the graphite softer. Out of the different forms of Carbon,
Graphite is the most stable under different conditions. (Thadani, 2012) Chem Class: Relating this back
to our unit of chemistry, learning about properties of substances, you can see how you can go from
your everyday ordinary pencil to a crystal clear diamond. Each Specific aspect is different, even if it s

shapes and properties allow us to have completely different properties. History of Graphite: Roughly
in the 1500s, English people discovered black rocks. The villagers saw that these rocks would mark
the sheep, so they began to break off sticks of it so they could use it to mark their sheep. From this,
this eventually ended up in the pencils that we had today. In 1795, Nicholas Jacques Conte discovered
mixing clay with graphite to make pencils. Today, this mixture is still used in our pencils.

Grunge Research Paper
Grunge, a genre of alternative rock that includes elements of punk rock and heavy metal, emerged in
the early 1990s, primarily in Seattle. The term grunge comes from the slang adjective grungy ,
meaning ugly, run down and dirty.
Grunge is often described as distortion filled, down tuned rock that is based off of riffs, using loud
electric guitar feedback and heavy bass lines to support the song s melodies. Instrumentation usually
consisted of an electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and a vocalist.
Electric guitars were the dominant instrument in the grunge style, with heavy distortion and fuzz
pedals creating growling, overdriven guitar sounds. Wah wah pedals were also sometimes used to
change the tone colour of guitars. Amps were usually only used to increase the dynamics, and all of
the sound manipulation was done through overdrive and fuzz pedals. Another method used to
manipulate the guitar sound in grunge music is using guitar feedback effects. This ... Show more

Grunge singers typically used deeper and lower tones to mirror the themes of the lyrics. Three of the

convey power and vulnerability, Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, known for his slurred articulation and harsh
timbre and Pearl Jam s Eddie Vedder, who displayed a depth of expression through his powerful
vibrato.
Grunge lyrics are commonly dark and angst filled, surrounding themes such as depression, social
ostracisation, lack of interest, political concerns and the desire for freedom. The lyrics often
questioned society, contained explicit drug references and demonstrated concern for social issues,
particularly those that affected the world s youth. The authenticity of the lyrics and passion behind

Summary Of The Joy Luck Club
Paragraph 2 of page 9 fits well into The Joy Luck Club. During this passage, Jing Mei Woo tells the
story about why her mother, who passed away, moved to America. So you can see how quickly
Kweilin lost its beauty for me. I no longer climbed the peaks to say, How lovely are these hills! I only
wondered which hills the Japanese had reached. I sat in the dark corners of my house with a baby
under each arm, waiting with nervous feet and scurried to the deep caves to hide like wild animals.
But you can t stay in the dark for so long. Something inside of you starts to fade and you become like
a starving person, crazy hungry for light. Outside I could hear the bombing. Boom! Boom! And then
the sound of raining rocks. And inside I was no longer hungry for the cabbage or the turnips of the
hanging rock garden. I could only see the dripping bowels of an ancient hill that might collapse on top
of me. Can you imagine how it is, to want to be neither inside nor outside, to want to be nowhere and
disappear? (9) The paragraph talks about the place where her mom, Suyuan Woo, hid from the
Japanese. She talked about how the place was once beautiful and gave her hope, but after the place
was attacked the beauty of it was strained away. In the beginning of the paragraph it says, How lovely

The Pros And Cons Of Homogenity
The Truth Untold...
God made all men equal . This is what we have been told by our wise elders since childhood. Even the
holy scriptures belonging to various religions teach the same. But history is a witness for every act and
deed which contradicted this moral which we have been learning, where majority of a kind cornered
the minorities and exploited them; first on the basis of gender, then color, followed by religion and
then by nationality and then by language and so forth. But this does not end here. Individuals have
been oppressed even on the basis of their orientation(sexuality) and gender identity, not just in the
recent times but far to longer than we can guess.

that deliberateness, it turns out, is their strength. They take time to think through complex problems
before they act. People, however, are different. People react first from the gut and then from the head.
And when such people are in power, policy becomes instinct rather than thought.
During the British raj of the 1860s, the colonizers introduced a law, now popularly known as IPC

extortion and a lot more. The transgender community or the hijras are the people who are affected by
this the most. Where many customs demand blessings of the third gender, many people grunt when a

Why Volkswagen Will Race Ahead Of Auto Peers
Volkswagen (VLKAY), world s third largest automaker behind Toyota (TM) and General Motors
(GM), has been an exceptional performer in the automotive industry, gaining 158% over the last five
years. Although the U.S. is one of the Volkswagens smaller markets, it is a top seller in the Europe and
China. As the company aspires to become the global industry leader by 2018, here are a few reasons to
back up its ambitious claim.
European auto industry poised for a rebound
Europe s beleaguered auto industry endured a six year slump, with auto sales falling to the lowest
level in nearly two decades, as a sluggish economic recovery put a brake of spending. However, going
by the recent data trend, the industry is headed for a revival this year. European auto sale increased
7.6% in February, marking the sixth straight month of sales increase, as steady economic recovery in
Italy, Portugal and Spain spurred demand for new cars, according to the Association of European
Carmakers (ACEA). The improving consumer confidence, amid a recovering economy, is likely to
drive a 2% to 3% upside in 2014.
Volkswagen, Europe s biggest automaker, is best positioned to benefit from the auto industry rebound.
As a matter of fact, it has significantly helped the region s improved sales in recent months, posting
rises of 8.9% and 7.2%, respectively, in January and February this year. If demand holds up,
Volkswagen can considerably outperform the regional market this year. Furthermore, global auto sales

title that is much unwanted in the world because it brings disorder. Thasper is transferred to a different
world to grow up in but once he hears of stories about the Sage of Dissolution, he travels to learn more
about this mysterious character. Although The Sage of Theare takes place in a fictional world, Diana
Wynne Jones creates a world of order by using diction, as well as personal experiences to bring light
to how current society mimics the social context of the story.

in both worlds have the same tendencies to want order. On Earth, ... Show more content on

In an interview that she had, she said, The Sage of Theare started because I remembered, or thought I
remembered, a story by Borges being read on the radio, in which a scholar arduously tracked down a
learned man but never quite found him. I started having dreams about it strange circular dreams in a
strange city where gods took a hand and the dream person never found the wise man he was looking
for. In order to exorcise the dreams, I wrote the story. Here, the rhetor s original purpose of writing
this story was to get rid of her strange dreams. However, this adds on to the idea that people are
uncomfortable with disorder because her strange dreams deviate from the norm and she wants it to
disappear. This is similar to the story because the gods that live in Theare hate disorder. Also, because
the rhetor wrote this in the time that she did, many events that occurred during the 1980s in Britain
might have influenced the way she wrote this story and why she wrote it. As mentioned previously,
Britain experienced political unrest during this time. There were many riots sparked by racial tensions,
local problems, and poor relations between predominantly black communities and the police. There
was also conflict in prisons as prisoners started a hunger strike to protest the right to be treated as
political prisoners, resulting in 61 deaths. Not only that, economic recession in Britain during this time
resulted in high unemployment rates of up to three million unemployed citizens. Because Diana
Wynne Jones wrote The Sage of Theare during this time, the story reflects some aspects of these
events. For example, the world of Theare is crafted to be a utopian society, a world of order where
there is no chaos. The rhetor might have chosen to depict Theare in this way as a distraction from what
is actually going on in the real world. In this fantasy world, everything

  • 2. An Inside Look at Sports Psychology Introduction Sports psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes while participating in sport (Robert Weinberg, 2010.). Academic sports psychology looks at the factors that affect participation and performance in sport. Areas that are covered in the academic research and theory are the person s personality, attitudes, anxiety, stress and motivation (class notes, 2014). After carefully analysing the five forces of sports psychology (psychodynamic, behaviourism, cognition, humanist and Nero linguistic processing) the athlete or coach will be given additional ways to recognise either their own or others behaviour, understanding and rethinking their own or others action and perceptions. I applied for the sports scholarship with hope of maybe being awarded it. I went to every training session and match and gave 100 percent commitment to the team. On one of the match days we had a very strong team playing and give our best shot to win it. During the match the opposite team were getting very frustrated as we were beating them 2 nil. Behind the referees back one of the players turned around and shoved me to the ground. The referee did not see any of it happening so nothing was done about it. When I tried to react to the stimulus response she ended up worse and I was sent off. As a result of this it was taken into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based... There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However, most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit plans and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and lessons with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary teachers have. A lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which helps meet the demands of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry based learning as a new pedagogy (Guido, 2017). However, Minner, Levy Century (2009) suggest that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is to help students to internalize and ask themselves as they learn to become independent problem solvers. Ontario Science Centre (2016) Guido (2017) talk about four types of inquiry based strategies which vary in different classrooms with the first type being different. However, both authors discuss structured inquiry, guided inquiry and open inquiry. The Ontario Science Centre (2016) Ontario Ministry of Education (2013) Guido (2017) argue that teachers may choose to use one inquiry strategy or a combination before asking students to share their questions about a topic. • 5. Aoteaora New Zealand s Society Essay Biculturalism has a massive role in Aoteaora New Zealand s society and has a massive impact in its history. Having a clear understanding of it is crucial in order to be more appreciative of how diverse New Zealand s society has become, and it also helps us discern the negative aspects of diversity and multiculturalism. By examining and understanding biculturalism, it helps us discern the Treaty of Waitangi s role and influences in the human services provision here in New Zealand. Biculturalism is quite a specific concept, but there are many diverse perceptions and interpretations on what it should look like. Ultimately, we can define biculturalism as two distinct cultures that exist in the same place and country (Random House Kernerman Webster s College Dictionary, 2010). Biculturalism in New Zealand refers to the two dominant cultures here, which are Maori and Pakeha (Ritchie, 1992). It has been known that New Zealand, before the Treaty of Waitangi was established, was widely a bicultural nation. The British settlers and Maori were exploring and examining ways to live in parallel with each other (Hayward, 2012). New Zealand was bicultural in multiple ways as both communities were effective in living within their own cultures in the same land. Throughout the years, Maori and Pakeha have learned each other s ways of living resulting in the adaption of both cultures. This raises the first bicultural people of New Zealand, the Maori Pakeha; Pakeha that lived in Maori ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem focuses on the relationship with lower and upper classes along with the economic conditions between the Grinch and the Whos. . The story revolves around the Grinch and his despise for Christmas. He lives just outside of Whoville where all the Whos live. The Grinch represents the lower class for the main reason is that he struggles financially. The line, Every Who Down in Whoville Liked Christmas a lot... But the Grinch, Who lived just north of Whoville, Did NOT! (Seuss 1 6) demonstrates that the Grinch is of a lower class because he does not live in the same community as the Whos. Throughout the poem the Grinch associates Christmas with materials like, Checkerboards! Tricycles! Popcorn! And plums! (Seuss 86). He believes that items and possession provide happiness, so if he cannot afford to buy the materialistic things he won t be happy and can t be part of the financially higher class like the Whos. The Grinch s despise towards the Whos makes him to want to take away all their happiness by stealing the children s toys. He wants the Whos to feel the same despair and sadness he feels. When it states, Then he slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant, Around the whole room, and he took every present (Seuss 83) it is evident that readers are able to see the satisfaction that the Grinch has when he steals the gifts. This shows how important materialistic things are to the Grinch. • 7. How To Increase Crime In America There are many time periods that I am fond of but I think my favorite time period is the 1950s. I think I would be happy during that time period because everything was simpler and more safe. Children could play outside without their parent worrying because most people just left them alone and kidnapping was unheard of. Most people also lived in the suburbs and I think I would be able to fit into that life nicely. I already live next to my grandparents and one of my brothers so living next to more nice people would not have been a problem for me. Elvis was also live alive and rock and roll was too. The baby boom occurred at this time because many Americans believed that since the war was over all the bad times were also over. There was an increase in the national gross product mostly from the construction of roads and other national improvements. Wages were high and most people had jobs so there was more money that people had access to. People were able to spend more money for things they like and there were many advancements that gave them things to want. There was also a civil rights movement that was becoming popular and was flourishing. Separate but equal facilities were ruled against the law so the integration of African Americans into white facilities began. Nonviolent resistance was common unlike today when protests are more frequent than peaceful protests. There was not as much anger between the races as there is now but instead there was a sense of dissatisfaction. Nonviolent protests were still the most popular form of expression even with the level of satisfaction that was present. The violent protests that occur now are probably due to the higher crime rate. Protests now also involve theft as well as the violence toward cops and even regular citizens. Elizabeth Miller Literary Studies May 8, 2017 Literary Research Paper Tennyson Owen War Poems Their Ideas The poems, The Charge of The Light Brigade and Dulce et Decorum Est, both deal with an idea of war. The writers both have the same viewpoint about war, but the way that they articulate those ideas on paper varies. Through literary devices in the poems, the authors show two different wars, but the same tragic outcome death. These two poems showcase how people can have different outlooks on war, but in the end they all end with the same deadly outcome. These writers, Wilfred Owen and Alfred Lord Tennyson, uses tone, metaphor or repetition, and rhyming and diction to present a more concrete version on their perception of war. The ... The overall tone of the poem capitalizes on the his idea of war and how we should be acting towards those who have given up themselves to hopefully makes their country better. Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est also created a specific tone in his poem as well. His poem takes on a completely different tone though. In his version of a war piece, Owen is showing us how war is bad and how much he feels that it is wrong, and how we won t like the conclusion that results from them. This war poem, about the First World War, has a more negative look on the actions of war. An example of this tone can be seen in the first stanza. According to the Bloom s Literary Reference Online, The first stanza presents a scene saturated with misery. (Dulce et Decorum Est) Throughout the entire piece Owen gives us the tone of misery, awful challenges, and death all negative feelings. We can see in the last couple of lines of the poem how Owen really felt about war, The old Lie, Dulce et Decorum est / Pro patria mori. Itwas started by a lightning strike and fueled by high winds and dry vegetation, the fire grew to be the third largest fire in Colorado history. Residents were instructed to take precautions if they could see or smell smoke, and a Fort Collins hospital reported an increase in emergency room visits related to smoke inhalation. Much of the fuel for the High Park Fire came from stands of trees that have been killed by beetles (BAER Report, 2012). Of course, strong female character is a term thrown around plenty now days, however, I never took a moment to contemplate what it meant. Unfortunately, my research dredged up a plethora of unsettling ideas about what traits strong females posses, and has led me to think films should no longer portray what is now classically called strong and instead produce more realistic female characters, thus redefining a more positive representation of women. She is truly heroic, for courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one and through each of the films she shows us the terror she is living in and her ability to overcome it. This fictitious strong female is a symptom of a greater problem, one that has stemmed from former cultures surrounded by the gender roles put in place by society. Rosalind from As You Like It, while superficially powerful is also weakened by her choices. She recognizes her weakness as a woman when she states, Beauty provoketh thieves sooner than gold, and decides to dress as a man as she ventures into the world (Page 26). Although this is a different time it is still relevant as her only strength comes from donning a costume of a man. In modern film, female characters classified as strong are picking up traits considered more masculine and emulating men, although not physically. To compensate for this loss of obvious gender roles in clothing, females have been given their femininity back on only a cosmetic level, while increasing male ideals drastically proving to audiences it just a character and they have no need to fear the loss of their well known ideas about men and women. This absorbance band at 563 nm and 579 nm corresponds to the reaction SP → MC. By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to construct a linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The corresponding rate constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we increase [SP] the rate is relatively constant. Further, this reaction was done on different solvents, which includes acetone and cyclohexane. Following Table 2, it seems that with the addition of cyclohexane, the rate of decay of MC is faster. This compound itself has a different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in acetone and 453 nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+→ MC → SP, the corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. However, increasing acid concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back into SP. Again, comparing the rate of decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined that the environment did not have a drastic effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of the rate of decay was calculated for the first four samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and 0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively, which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %. The empiricists, however, do not believe in natural light and therefore do not hold knowledge to be derived from these innate ideas. David Hume is one of these empiricists. Hume was a scientist and an atheist; his occupation and beliefs disallowed him from holding innate ideas to be a valid basis for knowledge. • 28. Graphite Research Paper Carbon is a light atom with 6 protons and usually 6 neutrons in its nucleus. Sometimes Carbon can contain 8 neutrons but in that form the nucleus is unstable. With the nucleus being unstable, the element falls apart through radioactive decay. This rate of decay is consistent over long periods of time. Because this certain type of carbon (Carbon 14) is in many materials, measuring the amount of carbon 14 in that material lets us figure out that material s age. This is known as carbon dating. (Miodownik, 2013) The six electrons that are around the nucleus are very important. 2 of the 6 electrons are deep at the inner core and don t have an effect on the interaction with other elements. The 4 electrons on the outermost layer are active. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemical bonds in graphite are stronger than those in Diamond. Diamonds have 3 layers of carbon sheets and graphite has 2 layers. With each layer of Graphite, the carbon atoms contain strong bonds. The layers slide across each other making the graphite softer. Out of the different forms of Carbon, Graphite is the most stable under different conditions. (Thadani, 2012) Chem Class: Relating this back to our unit of chemistry, learning about properties of substances, you can see how you can go from your everyday ordinary pencil to a crystal clear diamond. Each Specific aspect is different, even if it s only a slight difference, that s how you create these different substances from Carbon. The different shapes and properties allow us to have completely different properties. History of Graphite: Roughly in the 1500s, English people discovered black rocks. The villagers saw that these rocks would mark the sheep, so they began to break off sticks of it so they could use it to mark their sheep. From this, this eventually ended up in the pencils that we had today. In 1795, Nicholas Jacques Conte discovered mixing clay with graphite to make pencils. Today, this mixture is still used in our pencils. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Grunge Research Paper Grunge, a genre of alternative rock that includes elements of punk rock and heavy metal, emerged in the early 1990s, primarily in Seattle. The term grunge comes from the slang adjective grungy , meaning ugly, run down and dirty. Grunge is often described as distortion filled, down tuned rock that is based off of riffs, using loud electric guitar feedback and heavy bass lines to support the song s melodies. Instrumentation usually consisted of an electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and a vocalist. Electric guitars were the dominant instrument in the grunge style, with heavy distortion and fuzz pedals creating growling, overdriven guitar sounds. Wah wah pedals were also sometimes used to change the tone colour of guitars. Amps were usually only used to increase the dynamics, and all of the sound manipulation was done through overdrive and fuzz pedals. Another method used to manipulate the guitar sound in grunge music is using guitar feedback effects. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grunge singers typically used deeper and lower tones to mirror the themes of the lyrics. Three of the most influential grunge singers were Layne Staley of Alice in Chains who was known for his ability to convey power and vulnerability, Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, known for his slurred articulation and harsh timbre and Pearl Jam s Eddie Vedder, who displayed a depth of expression through his powerful vibrato. Grunge lyrics are commonly dark and angst filled, surrounding themes such as depression, social ostracisation, lack of interest, political concerns and the desire for freedom. The lyrics often questioned society, contained explicit drug references and demonstrated concern for social issues, particularly those that affected the world s youth. • 30. Summary Of The Joy Luck Club Paragraph 2 of page 9 fits well into The Joy Luck Club. During this passage, Jing Mei Woo tells the story about why her mother, who passed away, moved to America. So you can see how quickly Kweilin lost its beauty for me. I no longer climbed the peaks to say, How lovely are these hills! I only wondered which hills the Japanese had reached. I sat in the dark corners of my house with a baby under each arm, waiting with nervous feet and scurried to the deep caves to hide like wild animals. But you can t stay in the dark for so long. Something inside of you starts to fade and you become like a starving person, crazy hungry for light. Outside I could hear the bombing. Boom! Boom! And then the sound of raining rocks. And inside I was no longer hungry for the cabbage or the turnips of the hanging rock garden. I could only see the dripping bowels of an ancient hill that might collapse on top of me. Can you imagine how it is, to want to be neither inside nor outside, to want to be nowhere and disappear? (9) The paragraph talks about the place where her mom, Suyuan Woo, hid from the Japanese. She talked about how the place was once beautiful and gave her hope, but after the place was attacked the beauty of it was strained away. • 31. The Pros And Cons Of Homogenity The Truth Untold... God made all men equal . This is what we have been told by our wise elders since childhood. Even the holy scriptures belonging to various religions teach the same. But history is a witness for every act and deed which contradicted this moral which we have been learning, where majority of a kind cornered the minorities and exploited them; first on the basis of gender, then color, followed by religion and then by nationality and then by language and so forth. But this does not end here. Individuals have been oppressed even on the basis of their orientation(sexuality) and gender identity, not just in the recent times but far to longer than we can guess. They want it homogenized, sanitized, and above all, simplified into terms they can understand...Governments are often criticized for moving slowly, but that deliberateness, it turns out, is their strength. They take time to think through complex problems before they act. People, however, are different. People react first from the gut and then from the head. And when such people are in power, policy becomes instinct rather than thought. During the British raj of the 1860s, the colonizers introduced a law, now popularly known as IPC section 377. This criminalized every sensual activity that was against the order of nature or in simple words, did not lead to reproduction. This same law still prevails in the constitution, making the lives of the rainbow people miserable, making them vulnerable to threats, hate crimes, physical abuse, extortion and a lot more. The transgender community or the hijras are the people who are affected by this the most. Where many customs demand blessings of the third gender, many people grunt when a transgender crosses their way. This marginalized and economically backward section has faced untold tortures. Due to unemployment, many of them sell themselves to earn their bread whereas the rest beg on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Why Volkswagen Will Race Ahead Of Auto Peers Volkswagen (VLKAY), world s third largest automaker behind Toyota (TM) and General Motors (GM), has been an exceptional performer in the automotive industry, gaining 158% over the last five years. Although the U.S. is one of the Volkswagens smaller markets, it is a top seller in the Europe and China. As the company aspires to become the global industry leader by 2018, here are a few reasons to back up its ambitious claim. European auto industry poised for a rebound Europe s beleaguered auto industry endured a six year slump, with auto sales falling to the lowest level in nearly two decades, as a sluggish economic recovery put a brake of spending. However, going by the recent data trend, the industry is headed for a revival this year. European auto sale increased 7.6% in February, marking the sixth straight month of sales increase, as steady economic recovery in Italy, Portugal and Spain spurred demand for new cars, according to the Association of European Carmakers (ACEA). The improving consumer confidence, amid a recovering economy, is likely to drive a 2% to 3% upside in 2014. Volkswagen, Europe s biggest automaker, is best positioned to benefit from the auto industry rebound. As a matter of fact, it has significantly helped the region s improved sales in recent months, posting rises of 8.9% and 7.2%, respectively, in January and February this year. If demand holds up, Volkswagen can considerably outperform the regional market this year. Furthermore, global auto sales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Annotated In The Sage Of Theare In The Sage of Theare , a child, Thasper is born, and is prophesized to be the Sage of Dissolution, a title that is much unwanted in the world because it brings disorder. Thasper is transferred to a different world to grow up in but once he hears of stories about the Sage of Dissolution, he travels to learn more about this mysterious character. Although The Sage of Theare takes place in a fictional world, Diana Wynne Jones creates a world of order by using diction, as well as personal experiences to bring light to how current society mimics the social context of the story. The world on Earth is constructed very differently from the world of Theare but the people that reside in both worlds have the same tendencies to want order. On Earth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an interview that she had, she said, The Sage of Theare started because I remembered, or thought I remembered, a story by Borges being read on the radio, in which a scholar arduously tracked down a learned man but never quite found him. I started having dreams about it strange circular dreams in a strange city where gods took a hand and the dream person never found the wise man he was looking for. In order to exorcise the dreams, I wrote the story. Here, the rhetor s original purpose of writing this story was to get rid of her strange dreams. However, this adds on to the idea that people are uncomfortable with disorder because her strange dreams deviate from the norm and she wants it to disappear. This is similar to the story because the gods that live in Theare hate disorder. Also, because the rhetor wrote this in the time that she did, many events that occurred during the 1980s in Britain might have influenced the way she wrote this story and why she wrote it. As mentioned previously, Britain experienced political unrest during this time. There were many riots sparked by racial tensions, local problems, and poor relations between predominantly black communities and the police. There was also conflict in prisons as prisoners started a hunger strike to protest the right to be treated as political prisoners, resulting in 61 deaths. Not only that, economic recession in Britain during this time resulted in high unemployment rates of up to three million unemployed citizens. Because Diana Wynne Jones wrote The Sage of Theare during this time, the story reflects some aspects of these events. For example, the world of Theare is crafted to be a utopian society, a world of order where there is no chaos. The rhetor might have chosen to depict Theare in this way as a distraction from what is actually going on in the real world. In this fantasy world, everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
