Social Workers And The Social Worker Client Relationship
Today s social workers are surrounded by technology, which changes the way social workers and
clinicians practice. Technology helps social workers and clinicians work more efficiently and
effective, as it improves greater productivity, less paperwork, ultimately allowing more time for
clients. With the increase of use in technology, the current NASW Code of Ethics (2008), has created
new standards specifically related to electronic communications, such as email, fax machines,
computers, and electronic records. According to, Getz (2012), research and experience thus far
indicates that mobile application technology has the capability to support the social worker client
relationship . With the increase in technological advances, social workers have the ability to utilize
technological assessment tools in order to assist veterans with psychological issues. Currently, there
are many different websites that social workers or clinicians could use in order to better serve and
assess veterans. One online website that is beneficial for social workers to use is the U.S Department
of Veteran Affairs, PTSD Assessment. This website assists social workers by giving information on a
variety of measures assessing trauma and PTSD in Veterans, such as assessment basics, training and
tools, and veteran specific information (2015). This website provides facts about PTSD, as well as a
practical guide to assessing PTSD. I would use this tool as a resource for working with a veteran with

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell
One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by
Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples)
during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by
Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church
was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as
a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the
Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why
I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s
represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so
people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses
Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall.
The next piece that I have chosen is called Dancer s Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess
Kali created in India. It was made in the late 15th century in India, Kerala during the time period of
ancient India. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson
building on the Fourth floor on the right hand side of the exhibit under South and Southeast Asian art

Principal Leadership And Practices In Gifted Education
According to the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC, 2009), a misconception is gifted
learners are able to succeed on their own, and the truth is gifted learners need to be challenged to learn
something new each day. In a Tale of Two Principals, Weber, Colarulli Daniels, and Leinhauser (2003)
determined research on the topic of principal leadership characteristics and practices in gifted
education is neither extensive nor current. The National Association for Secondary School Principals
(NASSP, 1998) published a special issue introducing gifted education research and theory to its
readers and instructional leaders of schools. During this special edition, the administrative journal
acknowledged principals authority to positively

A Summary Of Bernard WilliamsUtilitarianism And Integrity
All human beings behave in the same particular way. The two things that we constantly experience in
our lives are pleasure and pain. We are always trying to find pleasure while trying to avoid pain. We
seek pleasure and avoid pain because pleasure produces happiness and pain tends to produce sorrow
and anger. An action would be considered right if that action created happiness and an action would be
wrong if that action promoted the opposite of happiness (sorrow, anger, etc.). When we try to evaluate
the rightness or wrongness of an action we have to contemplate the consequences of other people
involved and not just of our own. Moral actions should result in maximizing happiness because it s the
right thing to do not only for yourself but for others as well. The utilitarianism approach states the we
should always try to produce the greatest amount of happiness for the largest amount of people over
the longest amount of time. Happiness is something that we always struggle to maintain constant in
our lives because we regularly find ourselves in problematic situations. When we are in these
controversial circumstances we may not incessantly do the right thing because we simply don t know
what the right thing to do is. How we deal with certain issues defines whether we acquire happiness or
not. In Bernard Williams Utilitarianism Integrity he provided us with two different scenarios in which
two people find themselves in tricky situations in regard to what the correct action

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diversity In...
Advantages
Diversity in an organization creates a diverse experience. Fellow employees with different cultural
backgrounds come up with a new set of experiences to share with other members in their departments.
Pooling the diverse knowledge and skills of culturally distinct workers together can benefit companies
by strengthening teams productivity and responsiveness to changing conditions which benefit the
company (Hndlaechner 2008, p. 152). If these new ideas they bring up with them are used
accordingly, it will have a positive impact on all employees within the organization and hence
bringing the best out of them.
Diversity in an organization promotes learning and growth. It will create an opportunity for employees
personal growth. Being involved with people who possess new ideas, cultures and perspectives can
help individuals to reach out intellectually and gain a clearer view of ... Show more content on

The disadvantages can be worked on by training employees on how to relate to each other and avoid
unnecessary competition which may lead to low quality and reduction in productivity. Training might
be expensive, but it will be a long term benefit to the company. Diversity in the workforce is growing
in all countries around the world. When an organization adopts diversity policy it can perform better.
It is important for the companies to have knowledge about diversity and how to handle the negative
issues relating to it. Also, the need for the diverse workforce is getting more not only because there are
different people but also because they can produce better results with having different types of people
working together (Jager, B, and Cleland, A. 2016, 153). It is therefore recommended that diversity
policy is one of the best a company should adopt in order to achieve its

Analysis Of A Winter s Tale Op 9
Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. In 1894, Suk composed a piece of his works called A
Winter s Tale Op. 9, which was based on Shakespeare. In the beginning years of his career, he was
influenced by Antonin Dvorak, who was Suk s professor at a music academy called Prague
Conservatory. In 1898, Josef Suk ended up marrying Otilie Dvorak, who was the daughter of Antonin
Dvorak. Within the happy life they lived together, Otilie was impressed with her fathers and husbands
works of music and she loved to play the piano, but sadly died at a young age. After the death of
Otilie, Suk went back to revise A Winter s Tale, which was later released to the public in May of 1999.

The sun peacefully begins to set and the world falls into darkness as light snow begins to accumulate.
As the night approaches, soft breezes change the snow s direction from time to time. The wind slowly
gets more powerful with every gust making it evident that the storm is entering its infant stage.
Suddenly, there is a long suspenseful rumble. The cabin and barn braces for the unblockable wall of
wind that races into the buildings. The doors and shutters get buffeted ferociously as their henges
scream in agony trying to hold on. While looking through the window, a nearby tree succumbs to the
straining and splits with a loud crashing noise. The storm continues to maintain its power after the
initial impact. In addition, the storm becomes too dangerous to witness, causing every being in the
cabin to search for cover. The next morning, the sun rises through a light and gentle snow. Cautiously,
everyone stumbles outside to notice that the barn withstood the storm. The anxiety of not knowing the
extent of the damage is put to rest, and everyone returns to reality and can return to their daily lives.
We can see some similarities in description of what the composer had in mind when he wrote this
piece and in the way our group interpreted the music. The piece begins a little tense and unsettling. It
becomes evident that some big event is coming. The intensity

Fried Green Tomatoes At The Gentle Stop Cafe Novel Analysis
One of the themes that can be seen throughout the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop
Cafe is racism and how it affected those living in the time period in which a large portion of the book
is based. Fannie Flagg, the author of the novel, portays this theme in a variety of ways. One of the best
examples being how two African American twins known as Jasper and Artis grow up to live entirely
different lifes purely because of the shade of their skin. While Jasper is born with skin that has more of
a tan color, Artis is born with a much darker complexion. This minor difference, although seemingly
insignificant, has a massive impact on the lives of the twins in respect to the difficulties they face
because of these characteristics. From the day that the twins are born, it can ... Show more content on

When Ms. Threadgoode tells the story of the twins to Evelyn, she talks about how, Jasper went on to
become the president of the Brotherhood of the Sleeping Car Porter s Union. He and his brother Artis
moved to Birmingham when they were young. . .but Artis wound up in jail two or three times (103).
Ms. Threadgoode s description of the twins makes it clear that Jasper was successful and that Artis
had a tendency to end up in jail, although she does not specificially say why this was the case. Seen as
how both brothers are raised by the same parents in the same household, it doesn t seem logical that
they would lead such different lives until you consider the color of their skin. Jasper is born with
lighter skin which allows him to be able to maintain a relativley high paying job, eventually becoming
the president of his union. Artis is born with darker skin and this leads him into a life of poverty,
where he spends his time either in jail or wandering the streets. The only thing that seperates the
brothers is racism, and yet it makes all the difference in the lives that they

Brett Schaefer And Steven Groves
Brett Schaefer and Steven Groves believes the United States decision was justifiable. They argue that
the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be addressed
before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98 Agreement
and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five concerns the
Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard the fear of political
abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty.
In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United States decision was unjustifiable. He argues, the
conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with the
modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want be
subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions.
Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Court does
not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it claims
jurisdiction over (p. 152). This fact supports why the United States decision is justifiable because their
military actions could be charged by enemy countries since there is no clear definition of what
aggression means. Another example is that the International Criminal Court can prosecute an
individual from a country that is not party

Descriptive Essay On Going Down Hills
The sun was playing hide and seek with the moon, the moon was seeking. The trees standing
motionless with their fingertips covered in baking sugar. As my eyes broke the horizon of the hill I felt
something hit my feet, it was my stomach. Looking down the hill for 20 minutes I came to a
conclusion, I m screwed. As we sat there, the three of us, with our eyes crawling over the hill to look
down it once more, we got up. One by one. It was the first year my cousins and I had decided to go
snowboarding. Most of the guys had no real experience going down hills while glued to a frictionless
two by four. I was proud of the experience I had, a whole one inch of it. Going on a small practice
runway just to get the feel of riding before going up was what we all started off on. My butt had
became a close friend with the rock hard ground from all those unexpected meetings when the body
wouldn t feel like going the same direction as the board. Feeling confident from making a new friend
and wanting to go up some actual hills, we left the rest of the guys behind. I was one of the ones that
felt like we were ready for some new friend making grounds. Making our way to the line to get onto
the chair lift we all laughed as we knew that we were about to get hit with some reality. As the line
slowly evaporated in front of me, I could hear the screeching sound of the cables getting louder.
Simply just walking up the the lift and sitting down wasn t an option. I had to push off with one foot

Question One:
Consider the following story and the questions based on it.
Mrs Smith claims that one day last year, she saw Dan point a gun in the direction of his girlfriend and
pull the trigger. The gun failed to fire because the mechanism was faulty, but Dan had not been aware
of that until after he had pulled the trigger. Dan is now being tried for the attempted murder of his
girlfriend, under the provisions of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. He claims that he did not point the
gun in his girlfriend s directions alleged and that Mrs Smith is mistaken or is lying. Secondly, he
claims that the act of pointing a gun in this way is not legally capable of falling within the relevant

Was Socrates Wise
Was Socrates Wise?
Webster defines wise as: (1) having or showing good judgment; (2) informed; (3) learned; (4) shrewd
or cunning. In my opinion, Socrates was wise in all aspects of the word. If I were placed in his
position and were to make the same decisions, I would not consider myself wise. I would consider
myself to be a great fool, but given the circumstances and the parties involved I believe that Socrates
made proper decisions in his defense. Socrates knew that the jury was prejudiced against him from the
start and addressed it immediately. In his opening statement, of the prosecutors he stated, but of their
many falsehoods, the one which astonished me most was when they said that I was a clever speaker,
and that you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not feel that he was even slightly wise let alone the wisest man. He tried to prove the oracle
wrong by examining reputedly wise men and he realized that they thought that they knew things that
they did not and this made them unwise. It was after these encounters that Socrates realized that the
oracle meant that human wisdom is worth little or nothing. (19) It was this realization that made
Socrates wise. Socrates knew that he would be convicted and sentenced to death, so his speech on
death was not foolish. He was just addressing the inevitable. He says that a man of any worth does not
think of life and death or of anything except whether he is acting as a good or bad man. Socrates does
not fear death, for no one knows whether death may not be the greatest good that can happen to man.
But men fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. (24) Socrates was borderline
foolish when he discussed his political career and how he was ill suited for it because was just and
made his decisions accordingly. This was a thinly veiled allusion to the
moral character of the politicians of Greece, which must have been insulting and would not help
acquit him. After Socrates was found guilty, he accepted the death penalty by insulting the jury again.
He proposed that, instead of the death penalty, he should receive a public maintenance in the
Prytaneum. (29) Today, that would be

The purpose of SARS surveillance system includes, early detection and prompt identification of high
risk subjects, super spreaders and disease cases and clusters, without intense laboratory testing and

the disease and prevent the spread. Post epidemic, ongoing surveillance of SARS is useful in
preparedness for future outbreaks, due to potential sources of re emergence like animal reservoirs,

Virtual Work
Definition:
Our textbook defines virtual work as, employees use information technology to perform their jobs
away from the traditional physical workplace. The most common form of virtual work, called
telecommuting or teleworking, involves working at home rather than commuting to the office
(McShane Von Glinow, 2010, p. 22).
Summary: In his article, Unilever Moves Employee Telecommuting to a New Level, Gary M. Stern
writes about how most employers today offer telecommuting and some go beyond that. Unilever is a
consumer goods company that in 2010 launched a program titled Agile Working that allows its
employees to telecommute anytime anywhere. With a 30% participation rate, employees are
encouraged to work as long as they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research has shown that supervisors and managers will automatically recall these employees that are
in the office positively. However, those who telecommute or do other virtual work away from the
office don t get this advantage. Adams does believe it s possible to make this time up and offers some
advice for employees who need to make up face time (Adams 2012). In addition to telecommuting
from home more and more employees are using programs like the company Unilever to work
remotely. In her article, Your Next Office: At Home? Rachel Emma Silverman describes how 84% of
workers who worked remotely...did so at least once a week, up from 72% in 2008 (Silverman 2012).
She writes of how this trend has truly grown and even expanded into new fields of work. The same
advantages and disadvantages that our textbook writes of are included in this article. But, she doesn t
name employees needing face time and taking heed to some advice to make some changes on their
end. Silverman instead states that management not the virtual working employees should be the ones
leading better outcomes (Silverman 2012).

My Favorite Vacation
This time last year, I went to the Cape Coral Coconut Festival, A festival held yearly in the large lot
next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark, a local s hotspot every summer with guaranteed long lines and a
densely packed lazy river. Everyone in my family was thrilled, my little brother and sister bouncing up
and down on the seats of our family minivan, while my mom attempted to drive to the festival, amidst
ear piercing shrieks, constantly reminding them to calm down. I too was excited, peering up at the
brightly colored lights that stretched all the way to the sky. As we pulled into the lot, the rides seemed
to loom above, the thought of riding them put a knot in my throat and made my stomach do backflips.
We all burst out of the car, walking hand in hand, my little brother (5), my little sister (3), my Mom,
my Dad, my grandma, and I. We all rode a few rides to satisfy the little ones, the ladybug ride, and
then the merry go round. Shortly after, we passed by a large ride, where flashing lights and pounding
music assaulted my senses. It was so much to take in, I figured out the ride was cars connected in a
ring on a track that first jolted riders forward before having them disappear in a tube and having them
reappear on the other side. Once the ride finally slowed down and then lurched to a stop, the DJ

Research Study On Conducting Communication Research
When conducting communication research, it is extremely important to take ethics into consideration.
Will this research be confidential, will you use deception, and will the research you are doing harm
any of the participants, are all extremely important factors to consider. These factors will be identified
and considered while using the following hypothesis: As children increase their technology usage,
interpersonal communication skills decrease.
Confidentiality Anonymity The first ethical consideration that must be established is whether or not
the study will offer confidentiality to the participating parties. In the instance of this communication
research study, when it comes to trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, there will be no reason to
not offer complete confidentiality and anonymity. In this study, we are analyzing children and the
guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity would offer comfort so the participants can act naturally
without fear of judgment (Jamison, n.d.). If I were a participant in this research study, I would prefer
that all of the data collected remain confidential. I personally do not feel that the research study would
need to be anonymous. This is because I am an adult and am comfortable in my responses as they
pertain to the hypothesis. The hypothesis is not asking any overly person information be disclosed.
However, since the hypothesis involves children that could be minors, I feel it is necessary that

The Role Of Transportation And The Economic Health Of...
we may not yet be living in an age of flying cars, as predicted in the 1985 film Back To The Future II,
but the rise of smartphones and other new technologies is creating a reality that is arguably as exciting
and almost as far fetched.
Experts agree that economic and demographic changes, technological advances and environmental
concerns are fundamentally altering the transportation landscape. It s a very dynamic time, said Robert
Puentes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution s Metropolitan Policy Program thinktank. There s
a focus on a tighter connection between the role of transportation and the economic health of cities
and its impact on people.

The most sustainable places to live are those places that have multi modal transport systems, Puentes
said. You can t be a global competitive city if you don t have a robust transportation network.
Here are three of the key trends that experts predict will shape the transportation industry over the
coming years.
Connectivity
The rise of ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft essentially taxis booked at the click of a
smartphone button and apps like Waze, which uses real time traffic data to find the quickest routes for
drivers, is dramatically changing how people get around, and affecting the very way in which traffic
moves through a city.
Communication between riders and drivers, between different vehicles and between cars and
infrastructure is bringing transportation into a new era, according to Allan Clelland, senior vice
president at Iteris, a company developing new transportation technology.
Google buys Waze map app for $1.3bn Read more
The impact of these new apps could be broad. For one thing, ride and car sharing could facilitate a
drop in private car ownership, especially among young people, who tend to prefer using multiple
modes of transportation.
According to a recent study from the UCLA s Institute of Transportation Studies, vehicle travel has
declined among millennials individuals born roughly between the early 1980s and early 2000s

Pro And Cons Of Genetic Modification
Approximately 4 million babies are born each year, among them, nearly 160,000 have a high chance
of having genetic disorders said, Anne Matthews, an associate professor. Every parent s dream is to
have a perfectly healthy and thriving child. No parent will want his or her child to have any disease. In
1973, Herbert Boyer and Stanley discovered method called genetic modification ( GNN Genetics and
Genomics Timeline ). Genetic modification is the manipulation of organism genes using biology and
technology. Gene modification includes different types of techniques such as cloning and genetic
engineering. Genetic enhancement is the transfer of genetic material intended to non pathological
human traits, said Kathi Hanna, a biomedical research writer. Gene enhancement is used to make
people not only healthy but also raise their capacities. According to Begley Sharon, the senior science
writer for Stat, 65 percent of individual support that altering gene of an unborn baby should be illegal.
Parents should not have the right to genetically enhance their unborn child because it will limit the
child s freedom and will lead to societal issues.
The first reason why parents should not change the genes of their child is that it limits the child s
autonomy. In the U.S, most adolescents are dependent by the age of 18. Since most of them are
dependent, it means that they can already take care of themselves and make thoughtful decisions. A
child who is genetically modified will be

The whole point of the poem Daddy is Sylvia Plath showing her emotions of how drained she felt
from losing her father at a young age and how one death affected her whole life. The use of Nazi
symbolism can be confusing, but plays a huge part in understanding the full meaning of what Plath
was portraying. The use of intense imagery shows a story of Plath s deepest emotions. The story Plath
is describing is showing the reader her extreme depression and every big moment in her life that hurt
her more and more. One could describe the poem Daddy as a collection of Plath s most depressive
memories in her life.
Most or at least some may think this poem is about a girl who loses her father at a young age in a
concentration camp due to the poor living conditions. I was one of those people thinking that was the
case leading her to lose faith in God, much like how the Jews and others in concentration camps lost
their faith in God. It can be easy to come to this realization because of her use of Nazi symbolism in
the poem. That symbolism makes it hard for one to see that she is not literally in a concentration
camp, but feels as though she is figuratively in a concentration camp. When you figure this out you
can tell she uses the Nazi symbolism to describe how broken inside she felt as did the people in the
concentration camps felt. She feels so broken because she loses her father at just 8 years old. A very
reasonable and most likely action for a child that age is to tumble into a deep spiral of depression.
Plath herself falls victim to this deep confusion and more so depression. A death of a loved one at that
young of an age is already hard enough on an 8 year old, let alone it being her father. Her father being
someone she looked up to and loved so greatly, perhaps even more than anyone, making the death
even harder for her to bare. When you look deeper into her father s death with research you can tell he
died in boston and not a concentration camp. This fact proving their family was not in a concentration
camp and Plath was using the Nazi symbolism to describe her feelings on the untimely death and how
she felt wronged by the world. Her father s death is where you can start to see Plath not understanding

Moral Ambiguous Characters In The Crucible
Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit (Proverb 12:17). The
Bible represented the law of the land in 1600 s Salem. Religion influenced peoples actions and
dominated societal norms. Rules set out by the Bible had to be followed because anyone who breaks it
gets sentenced to death. When the threat of witchcraft hit the town, mass hysteria questioned peoples
character and integrity. The stories are chronicled in Arthur Miller s book, The Crucible. Marry
Warren is introduced as a moral ambiguous character because of her altered involvement in Elizabeth
Proctors trial. Arthur Miller, author of The Crucible, provides establishing ethos, commanding logos,
and decisive pathos to convey the message of integrity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With consistent persuasion from John, Mary agrees to talk to the Mr. Danforth, the judge over looking
the trial, about faults in her accusations. She admits to faking and only cried spirits because the other
girls were (pg. 100). With this event, Mary demonstrates that she does not have integrity. Regret,
accompanied with pity, assists Mary in convincing Mr. Danforth but it does not work in her favor
because he does not want to backtrack on previous convictions made. Feelings of regret are very
influential in determining a persons actions. Miller uses Mary, who has now shown to be morally
uncertain, as a scapegoat for all the girls who are fabricating seeing the devil. As tensions rise, Mary
becomes unsettled by the consequences that follow lying under oath. Swapping sides once again to
save her life, she proclaims, I ll not hang with you! I love God, I love God (pg. 110). Striking emotion
from her declaration tells a story of discord between her ethical thinking. She is now only worried
about her life and the author incorporates pathos to make her claim stronger. Fear is the single greatest
motivator for humans and Mary is fearful. John will see the repercussions of these actions by facing
death later in the book. Due to Mary s incapacity of raining truthful, an innocent citizen would

Starwood Hotel and Resorts Call Center Networking
Starwood Hotel and Resorts Call Center Networking Starwood Hotels and resorts is one of the world s
largest hotel and leisure companies. The company owns thousands of Hotels and Resorts as well as
seven call centers in which help keep everything running smoothly for the company. Of course this
means there is an expansive network working to keep all this information flowing from every hotel
and call center. This paper will focus on the network of the call center in Lancaster, California in
which I used to work at as a customer service representative. First the paper will give an overview of
the company. Then, a depiction of the network that is being used by the call center will be explained.

The IVR technology used for the call centers specific needs is called Telephony Infrastructure as
stated by the Voxeo (2009) website Telephone lines for IVR can be standard analog lines, digital T1,
or digital ISDN lines. These lines are connected on one side to the IVR platform and, on the other, to
call switching equipment including Telco switches, Voice over IP gateways, and corporate PBX s; or
in some cases, directly to call centers via an ACD. I recall one day when none of the computers were
working we had to write everything down manually then input the information in as soon as the
network was live once again. This is how I narrowed down which kind of topology that the Lancaster
call center was using. The wiring of the call center is most likely wired with Fiber Optic cables. This
is mainly due to the fact that the call center is located in a downtown area surrounded by many
electrical devices that could cause interference with their network. The bandwidth is extremely high
with heavy use of the network throughout the building so fiber optic cabling would be needed in order
to provide the call center with exactly what is needed to maintain communication.
In conclusion, this paper has given an overview of the network for Starwood Hotels and Resorts
network at their Lancaster, CA location. First, an explanation of the network provided for the training
station was given. Then a depiction of the live network in which

temple will be closed in 15 minutes. I surprised hearing those words from that guy, I thought there are
so many people come here to pray the God and to see the God statue, why the temple will closed? The
temple was full of people because it was Sunday. All the religious programs happen at the temple on
Sunday because on Sunday most of the people have off from work so they can come with their whole

Smallpox Viruses Essay
For approximately three thousand years, smallpox has ravaged and plagued the four corners of the
globe. In fact, in the 17 th and 18 th centuries, it was claimed to be the most infectious disease in the
West, with an astounding 90% mortality rate in America. It wasn t until 1796, with English surgeon
Edward Jenner s smallpox vaccination, that the world saw relief from this devastating virus. However,
even with this inoculation in use, the world continued to witness death from both the virus and the
vaccine. In the year 1966, it was estimated that 10 15 million infected citizens world wide had passed
away from smallpox that year alone ( History 12). As a result of these devastating numbers, in the
following year, 1967, the World Health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a highly contagious, deadly and airborne virus, it would be virtually impossible to completely
eradicate smallpox. Peter Jahrling, the scientist that discovered the deadly Ebola Reston virus, once
stated, If you really believe there s a bioterrorist threat out there, then you can t get rid of smallpox. If
smallpox is outlawed, only outlaws will have smallpox ( Preston 4). To date, only Russia and the
United States have clearance to maintain the smallpox virus in two selected laboratories. Enforced by
the W.H.O, this was mandated to ensure that the virus cultures could be heavily monitored and
researched to prevent future outbreaks. Unfortunately, the power that is associated with having access
to a virus as devastating as smallpox is often interwoven with greed. For example, in 1991, British
inspectors discovered that the Russian government had been testing bio nuclear weapons using
smallpox in an unauthorized base ( Preston 6). Since smallpox can be used as a powerful weapon,
there is no way to determine what country may try to obtain it. Additionally, even if a country was
highly suspected of testing the virus for warfare, it would be difficult to prove that the country actually
had virus cultures. During that same inspection in Russia, for instance, the head of the base that was

Japanese Romanticism Essay
Nations certainly exchange cultural, technological, and artistic inspiration, but the west was especially
interested in the foreignness of the Asian world during the nineteenth century. Japan opened
international trade in 1858 after a period of isolation, introducing their woodblock prints to European
peoples. Europe, influenced by Romanticism, was fascinated with the exotic and quickly began
incorporating Japanese techniques into their artwork, as I will describe in detail using the work of
Edgar Degas (Lambourne 7). Europe had a curiosity for the Japanese way of life and aesthetics;
moreover, Japan simultaneously began a rapid period of modernization based on the western model
and reflected European principles in their art. I observed this transition in Japanese artwork, both
through my readings and on the trip to the Dallas Museum of Art. Not only did Japanese culture
influence the western artistic world in the late nineteenth century, including the work of Degas and
other impressionistic painters, but the European style began to inspire many Japanese works. This two
sided artistic influence demonstrates the exchange of western and eastern culture during the
modernization of Japan and explains the roots of the Japonisme and Yōga periods in Europe and
Japan, respectively. Before Japan opened its borders to western trade and cultural exchange, Europe
pondered the unfamiliar Asian lifestyle. The Romantic movement in Europe provides context for this
exoticism, or

How Media Has Impacted Growing Up With A Measuring Body Image
In this advertisement it shows a little girl measuring herself with a measuring tape. By looking at this
image, it already outlines that we as society relay on having the perfect ideal women body, which is
being thin and skinny. Society also implies that valuing body image and perfection is significant that
children at a very young age are already influenced negatively growing up with a corrupted mindset.
The little girl in the photo is already measuring her waistline with a measuring tape at such a young
age. She is already feeling like she must be skinny to fit into society and is conscious of her size,
teaching her that she must look a certain way. The issue is that in society the media has
advertisements, commercials and magazines that portray standards such as women being thin, tall and
skinny. This according to the Western countries is having the perfect body image. The media shows
such unrealistic images to consumers such as these young girls to try to appear like these ideals that
are set for them from society that potentially be harmful and unhealthy which could lead to death
because of starvation leading to possible long term health disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa
and nervosa. My opinion on this issue is those who are suffering with low self esteem shouldn t do
such horrific acts like starvation or dieting just to be accepted in society because they feel too fat or
they do not meet the societal standard of being perfect. Girls should relay on the ideal

Who Is Rick Deckard A Replicant
I m writing about a somewhat controversial topic that concerns one of my favorite movies, Blade
Runner. Blade Runner is a science fiction, neo noir movie that takes place in Dystopian Los Angeles
in the year 2019. I ve seen all editions of this film several times. I ve also read the book Do Androids
Dream Of Electric Sheep? written by Philip K. Dick, which Blade Runner is a loose adaptation. I ve
always regarded Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) as a human, but many people believe that he
is a Replicant.
According to the creators of the movie, Replicants are bioengineered Androids of the Nexus series,
specifically the Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 Replicants were created to have superior physical capabilities,

There are several examples shown throughout the movie that Deckard lacks the physical prowess
equal to that of the Replicants when he fights them. Therefore, Deckard cannot be a Replicant. When
Deckard is in three separate physical fights with three of the surviving Replicants: Zhora, Leon, and
Pris, Deckard can hold his own while he is being pummeled by them, but barely. When Deckard fights
a Replicant, the Replicant shows no physical damage. Deckard, on the other hand, is beaten within an
inch of his life and sometimes he shows severe physical injury. It s when Deckard kills them, can he
stop them. Because Deckard can survive a beating from the Replicants, people seem to think he is a
Replicant. I think there is a simple answer as to why he can survive a fight with a Replicant and that is
adrenaline. It s the adrenaline rush, the fight or flight impulse, which keeps him alive. Rick Deckard is
a cop whose job it is to retire or execute Replicants upon detection because the Replicant presence is
illegal on Earth. When Deckard sees them, he has to kill them. It ends up being a fight because the
Replicant knows they will be killed when the Blade Runner (Replicant killer/cop) identifies them and
because Deckard has a job to do, he stays to fight and kill them because he doesn t run from his

Group Minds, By Doris Lessing
We, as humans, like to believe that we always stand out in a crowd and never conform to please
society. We hold our freedom to be individuals higher than most of our other freedoms. Humans
believe that we always use this individualism to speak our opinions. We think that we would never
change our views to comply with a group. As much as we would like to believe this, it seems that
more often than not, we tend to follow the crowd. In her article Group Minds , Doris Lessing was on
the right track when she described how humans stand for choice and individualism, but when faced
with the situation, most tend to fall in line with the majority.

As humans, we are drawn to groups for numerous reasons. Society as a whole is very social. When
you are a part of a group it allows you to be sociable. Additionally, we are drawn to these groups
because we have a craving to feel wanted. Humans enjoy the feeling of being wanted. Another reason
we are drawn together is we want to fit in. We desire to be accepted by others and fear judgement if
we don t agree with everyone else. This then causes us to conform to the rest of society and act in a
similar fashion. Humans wish to be accepted, and we try not to draw attention to ourselves because of
this. Love, support, and affection is what we gain from these groups. Qualities such as these are what
draws us to groups. In time of despair we tend to lean on the other members to prevent us from

Plato s Views On Socrates
The most significant writings on Socrates came from one of his own disciples, Plato. Plato s writings
are the reason Socrates is historical figure he is today, without them Socrates would have been nothing
more than a minor presence (Navia 93). Plato s writings are classified as either early, middle, or late.
However, only the early writings best portray the real Socrates (Navia 105). These writings include the
Euthyphro, Crito, Phaedo, and most importantly the Apology, which discusses the trial and execution
of Socrates. Similarly Xenophon s dialogue of the same name also discusses the same subject. While
both authors demonstrate similar positions defending Socrates, their approach to their discussion
varies significantly.
Even though it is not known how close of a relationship Plato and Socrates had, it is very obvious that
Socrates played a major role in influencing philosophy into the life of Plato. Plato was born in Aegina
on 427 BCE and ultimately died in Athens in his school, The Academy, on 347 BCE (Navia 95). He
had two older brothers Glaucon and Adeimantus, and a half brother, Antiphon, who were also students
of Socrates. He was born into an aristocratic family involved in government, and in turn he would be
destined for a life involved in politics as well. However Plato avoided involvement in government
after witnessing all the corruptionmby his uncle, and as a result, leads to his first encounter with
Socrates as his pupil at the age of twenty (Navia 96).

The Ethics And Legal Implications Of The Internal Revenue...
The complexity of the Internal Revenue Code has been the source of genuine concern, standup jokes,
and political theater for years, but its greatest effect on practitioners of tax is to create a myriad of
complicated gray areas and thorny questions that are not quickly resolved to a neat yes or no answer.
This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are
serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work.
Since 1881, U.S.C. 31 has regulated who can represent other people to the Treasury Department,
which encompasses the IRS. This representation, called practice before the IRS, includes not just
representation in court, but also all forms of communication on behalf of the taxpayer, including
written documentation, phone calls, and interviews. From the beginning, the qualities required to
practice before the IRS were good character, good reputation, competence and qualifications ( Beyond
the Basics. ) Today, those practicing tax or intending to do so need to be aware of a long list of
standards and requirements in order to be compliant with both the IRS, as outlined in Circular 230,
and the standards of the profession as outlined by the AICPA in Statements of Standards for Tax
Services.
Circular 230 covers an extensive list of the requirements, laid out in multiple sections of the Internal
Revenue Code, of being in compliance as a tax preparer and representative before the IRS, from

Social Responsibility Issues In The 1930 s
One reason that there is so much government regulation involving social responsibility issues, is due
to the public putting pressure on them to do something about all the bad social conditions occurring to
people back in the 1930 s. The government involvement prior to that was centered more on the
American business. People had to endure poor working conditions and low wages, without much hope
of things improving. There were no advocates for the working class. The change did not come until
pressure was put on the government to do something. The turning point came when Franklin D.
Roosevelt became president, and started to change the way a business was allowed to operate. Once

Cultural Values Of Bangladesh
Introduction
This report will discuss the cultural values of Bangladesh. The main purpose is putting the Geert
Hofstede s dimensions of culture into practice. The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the following
reason. Recently, I have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a volunteer who used
to be a refugee from Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life, Habiba, now, enjoys her life
in NZ and would like to help other refugees. Her story inspired me to do the study about Bangladesh
culture.
Discussion and Analysis
The five cultural dimensions of Bangladesh will be discussed in this report. Each dimension includes
three questions. The researcher recorded the answers of the volunteer and analysed them in order to
evaluate the cultural values of Bangladesh. These results are compared with Hofstede s theory to have
a true and fair view about this culture.
1. Individualism vs Collectivism
This dimension determines the culture in the term of I or we . Individualism prefers to the society in
which individuals only take care of themselves and their immediate family. In contrast, collectivism
prefers to the the society in which people integrate and share good relationships in groups, and expect
the unquestioning loyalty. (Hofstede, 1991). The three questions related to this dimension are:
Question 1: In your culture, do people have many generations (grandparents, parents and children)

The Management And Worker Relationships Within The 2009...
The following essay will examine the management and worker relationships within the 2009
documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty . Using French and Raven s (1959) notions of power these
relationships will be critiqued and analysed. Applying and critically evaluating the different notions of
power will help to show the impacts they have had on the creative team within the Disney Corporation
as well as the many variations of resistance, which occurred. This essay will discuss Waking Sleeping
Beauty in chronological order using specific events, which display the six notions of power in order to
show the relationships between managers and the animators of Walt Disney Productions.
In a noteworthy study focusing on power two reputable academics John R.P. French and Bertram
Raven (1959) broke down power into six different forms which they call bases of power. These six
bases of power are referent, legitimate, information, expert, coercive and reward power. French and
Raven (1959) explain that these bases or notions of power are known to be the most significant and
prevalent when discussing power. These notions of power will be used to analyse Waking Sleeping
Beauty , a documentary focusing on the history of Walt Disney Feature Animation and a timeline of
events, which occurred between 1984 to 1994. The events show the management and worker
relationships of the organisation and the types of obstacles the company faced when trying to produce
animated films.

Obsessive Compulsive Eating Disorder Essay
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
One kind of anxiety disorder is obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). This disease can ruin a person s
life because it causes them to have repetitive thoughts and behaviors towards certain things. Life can
become very difficult because this way of thinking and acting is very difficult to overcome, especially
since the obsessions have no point and are stressful for the person. It begins to interfere with the
person s school, work, and/or home.
Obsessions are the unpleasant thoughts or impulses that cause the person with the disorder to have lots

People used to believe that OCD was caused by the experiences in the patient s childhood. For
example, parents putting unnecessary force on the child for a clean environment. Scientists have
learned that it is due to more than just childhood experiences. They have realized that the disorder is
caused by the environmental stresses, neurobiological factors, and even what the patient recognizes as
being right or wrong.
People with OCD show differences in brain activity compared to other people. They also have less
white matter in the brain than normal people. These results have been obtained using brain imaging
machines.
Victims of OCD may also have other diseases. Some have Tourette s syndrome. This is when the
person has movement spasms and vocal outbreaks. Others have impulses to pull out their hair and to
perfect their appearance. Yet others are afraid to catch a disease, even though doctors have reassured
them that there are no defects in their health.
Victims deal with their problem in different ways. Some try to block their obsessions so they do not
have to deal with their compulsions. They are able to hide their secret during the time they are in
school or work. Over the years their condition gets worse, and they are unable to control themselves.
By the time they get some professional help, they already have had the disease for some time. The
symptoms may last for years with some mild periods and some harsh

Al Qaeda
Another key concept in the study of Israel Palestine war is that of Al Qaeda which is an international
terrorist organization more of an ideology than an organization. According to Burke (2004:1) in 1987,
Abdullah Azzam, the forefront dialogue for contemporary Sunni Muslim fundamental advocates,
instigated for al Qaeda al sulbah which is a frontline of the robust. The notorious leader envisioned an
ideology about men acting autonomously, as the route that will lead the all of the Islamic society and
therefore stimulate the umma which refers to worldwide community of believers against its
oppressors. The al Qaeda endorses the general rule of terrorism.
Concept of delegitimization
According to Oren amp; Bar Tal (2011:112), in broad, delegitimization refers to stereotypes with
tremendously bad meanings that is used to label a particular instance of group categorization.
Furthermore the scholar states that it is based on tremendously negative outgroup classification and
targeted at depriving the other group s humanity.
Yasser Arafat
Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority (PA), decided that the new State of Palestine should be
drove in blood and fire thus he released Palestinian militants instead of accepting a discussed resolve
of the encounter (Jansen, 2003:1). According to Jansen (2003:16), the Arafat and the Palestinian

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Birds
In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds, usually tame birds seem to attack people at random. These bird
attacks cause fear in the town, but could the fear be causing the attacks? Sever emotional turmoil or
desires of the characters in the movie are the cause of the bird attacks. Melanie, Mitch, and Lydia s
inner havoc is shown through the bird attacks.
The first bird attack occurs when Melanie is on the water and the seagull flies into her head. This
seagull represents Mitch s confusion about his feelings for Melanie as he watches her drop the love
birds off at his house. His confusion about his feelings is manifested in the bird attack and how him
and Melanie can hurt each other. The seagull attack is also a foreshadowing for Melanie of what is to

These love birds symbolize Melanie and Mitch s relationship. Through the film, all of the other bird
attack and cause mayhem. However, the love birds remain calm and sweet just like their love. Their
love is the only constant through the film and remains stable like the love birds. They are also the only
birds at the end of the film to follow Mitch and Melanie. This portrays how their love for each other
comes with them as they leave, but the insecurities they faced and turmoil they went through get left
behind as their relationship has evolved. The birds represent the chaos and uncertainty that our
relationships with others can cause us

Db4 Baseline Budget
DB4 Replies Hi Mozella,
Thanks for sharing details in regards to the baseline budget. In any business, a budget is a very
important part of planning. The baseline budget can be determined by many factors. According to the
article, Basing Budget Baselines , the author stated, A baseline can aid policymakers in determining
what should be on the legislative agenda by helping to define and prioritize policy problems that need
to be addressed (Kamin, 2015). The amount of spending also plays a role in the success of the project.
In some cases, the project manager have to reevaluate the project plan if the budget is at stack. In
some cases, people believe that the process of setting the budget baseline seems a little complicated,

Taking a Look at Heavy Metals
Heavy metals are elements that exhibit metallic properties. It mainly includes the transition metals,
basic metals, some metalloids, lanthanides, and actinides. Many different definitions have been
proposed some based on density, some on atomic number or atomic weight, and some on chemical
properties or toxicity (Duffus, 2002). Example for some heavy metal are iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper
(Cu), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) etc.
Iron is important as a mineral in human body (part of haemoglobin) and also part of many enzymes
and proteins. Deficient amount of iron in human body will cause anaemia while excess amount of iron
may cause iron poisoning or hemochromatosis. Zinc is a metal which known as essential trace element
as very little amount of it is necessary for human health. Zinc is important for cellular metabolism,
catalytic activity of enzyme, immune system, synthesis of protein, wound healing, cell division and
DNA synthesis (Sandstead, 1994; Solomons, 1998; Prasad, 1995). However, excess amount of zinc
may lead to remarkable health problems such as depressed immune system, stomach cramp, vomiting,
nausea and anaemia and skin irritation.
Cadmium (II) ions are known of its toxicity in trace amount may result in poor health effect.
Cadmium can be found easily in contaminated food or water. Workers of metal refining or smelting
factory or cadmium product manufacturing have a high possibility to be exposed to cadmium. Long
term exposure of cadmium lead to

Charlie Elphicke Father
Charlie Elphicke was born on March 14, 1971 in Huntingdon, England. Charlie is currently married to
his wife Natalie Ross, and they have a total of two children. Before getting into politics and getting
elected into Parliament, Charlie graduated from the University of Nottingham. Charlie was a partner
for the law firm Hunton Williams, and also was working in the pharmaceutical research business
before he pursued politics. Charlie began his career in politics in 1994, when he was elected to the
London Borough Council of Lambeth. As a Conservative, he represented Gipsy Hill, in which he
defeated Labour leader Stephen Whaley for this position. After four years of serving, he stood down
and quickly became the chairman of the Dulwich West Norwood ... Show more content on

I have long been fighting for a change in the law when it comes to family policy, so that children have
the right to know and have a relationship with both parents (elphicke.com). On February 25, 2013 Mr.
Elphicke introduced a bill to Parliament which would help support Charlie s goal to put the children
first. Mr. Elphicke told Parliament that around 3 million kids in the United Kingdom are living with
separated parents and around 1 million children do not have contact with either of their parents. The
push for this bill by Charlie Elphicke was finally recognized by Parliament on March 13, 2014 when
the Children and Families Act was passed by both Houses. Another issue that Charlie Elphicke is
trying to get ahold of is the tax avoidance of big multi national businesses. I spoke up for the need to
reform our tax law fundamentally. To make sure that tax on profits from business carried out in the
UK is paid (www.elphicke.com). Mr. Elphicke says that the problem is not the British businesses, but
the companies who are world wide and do not pay the proper corporation tax that they should pay.
April 16, 2012 was the first day that the Finance Bill was debated in Parliament and this is the bill that
sets the taxes and the tax law. Charlie set forth a couple of ideas in this Bill about anti avoidance
measures. The first principle is that business tax rates should be low, simple and attractive. Britain
should be open for business, but open for business on a level playing field for national and
international companies (www.elphicke.com). After years of continuing to debate and pushing
forward the idea, under the Labour party income tax receipts went up, while the corporation tax stayed
the same. To this day, Charlie Elphicke is continuing to call out many corporations for the
continuation of tax avoidance he

Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz

October 14, 2011
Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics
and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz
is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the
social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the
Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro
American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and
improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show

Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences
between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African
influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues
was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was
European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted
melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European
influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned
during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make
drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so
much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37).
On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is
a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the
way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become
American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka. In Jazz A History, Frank Tirro wisely analyzes and
explains the relationship between the unique background and

  • 2. Social Workers And The Social Worker Client Relationship Today s social workers are surrounded by technology, which changes the way social workers and clinicians practice. Technology helps social workers and clinicians work more efficiently and effective, as it improves greater productivity, less paperwork, ultimately allowing more time for clients. With the increase of use in technology, the current NASW Code of Ethics (2008), has created new standards specifically related to electronic communications, such as email, fax machines, computers, and electronic records. According to, Getz (2012), research and experience thus far indicates that mobile application technology has the capability to support the social worker client relationship . With the increase in technological advances, social workers have the ability to utilize technological assessment tools in order to assist veterans with psychological issues. Currently, there are many different websites that social workers or clinicians could use in order to better serve and assess veterans. One online website that is beneficial for social workers to use is the U.S Department of Veteran Affairs, PTSD Assessment. This website assists social workers by giving information on a variety of measures assessing trauma and PTSD in Veterans, such as assessment basics, training and tools, and veteran specific information (2015). This website provides facts about PTSD, as well as a practical guide to assessing PTSD. I would use this tool as a resource for working with a veteran with PTSD ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples) during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall. The next piece that I have chosen is called Dancer s Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess Kali created in India. It was made in the late 15th century in India, Kerala during the time period of ancient India. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the Fourth floor on the right hand side of the exhibit under South and Southeast Asian art ... Principal Leadership And Practices In Gifted Education According to the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC, 2009), a misconception is gifted learners are able to succeed on their own, and the truth is gifted learners need to be challenged to learn something new each day. In a Tale of Two Principals, Weber, Colarulli Daniels, and Leinhauser (2003) determined research on the topic of principal leadership characteristics and practices in gifted education is neither extensive nor current. The National Association for Secondary School Principals (NASSP, 1998) published a special issue introducing gifted education research and theory to its readers and instructional leaders of schools. • 5. A Summary Of Bernard WilliamsUtilitarianism And Integrity All human beings behave in the same particular way. The two things that we constantly experience in our lives are pleasure and pain. We are always trying to find pleasure while trying to avoid pain. We seek pleasure and avoid pain because pleasure produces happiness and pain tends to produce sorrow and anger. An action would be considered right if that action created happiness and an action would be wrong if that action promoted the opposite of happiness (sorrow, anger, etc.). When we try to evaluate the rightness or wrongness of an action we have to contemplate the consequences of other people involved and not just of our own. Moral actions should result in maximizing happiness because it s the right thing to do not only for yourself but for others as well. The utilitarianism approach states the we should always try to produce the greatest amount of happiness for the largest amount of people over the longest amount of time. Happiness is something that we always struggle to maintain constant in our lives because we regularly find ourselves in problematic situations. When we are in these controversial circumstances we may not incessantly do the right thing because we simply don t know what the right thing to do is. How we deal with certain issues defines whether we acquire happiness or not. In Bernard Williams Utilitarianism Integrity he provided us with two different scenarios in which two people find themselves in tricky situations in regard to what the correct action ... • 6. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diversity In... Advantages Diversity in an organization creates a diverse experience. Fellow employees with different cultural backgrounds come up with a new set of experiences to share with other members in their departments. Pooling the diverse knowledge and skills of culturally distinct workers together can benefit companies by strengthening teams productivity and responsiveness to changing conditions which benefit the company (Hndlaechner 2008, p. 152). If these new ideas they bring up with them are used accordingly, it will have a positive impact on all employees within the organization and hence bringing the best out of them. The disadvantages can be worked on by training employees on how to relate to each other and avoid unnecessary competition which may lead to low quality and reduction in productivity. Training might be expensive, but it will be a long term benefit to the company. Diversity in the workforce is growing in all countries around the world. When an organization adopts diversity policy it can perform better. It is important for the companies to have knowledge about diversity and how to handle the negative issues relating to it. Also, the need for the diverse workforce is getting more not only because there are different people but also because they can produce better results with having different types of people working together (Jager, B, and Cleland, A. 2016, 153). It is therefore recommended that diversity policy is one of the best a company should adopt in order to achieve its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of A Winter s Tale Op 9 Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. In 1894, Suk composed a piece of his works called A Winter s Tale Op. 9, which was based on Shakespeare. In the beginning years of his career, he was influenced by Antonin Dvorak, who was Suk s professor at a music academy called Prague Conservatory. In 1898, Josef Suk ended up marrying Otilie Dvorak, who was the daughter of Antonin Dvorak. Within the happy life they lived together, Otilie was impressed with her fathers and husbands works of music and she loved to play the piano, but sadly died at a young age. After the death of Otilie, Suk went back to revise A Winter s Tale, which was later released to the public in May of 1999. A Winter s Tale Op. 9, based on Shakespeare was written in ... As the night approaches, soft breezes change the snow s direction from time to time. The wind slowly gets more powerful with every gust making it evident that the storm is entering its infant stage. Suddenly, there is a long suspenseful rumble. The cabin and barn braces for the unblockable wall of wind that races into the buildings. The doors and shutters get buffeted ferociously as their henges scream in agony trying to hold on. While looking through the window, a nearby tree succumbs to the straining and splits with a loud crashing noise. The storm continues to maintain its power after the initial impact. In addition, the storm becomes too dangerous to witness, causing every being in the cabin to search for cover. The next morning, the sun rises through a light and gentle snow. Cautiously, everyone stumbles outside to notice that the barn withstood the storm. The anxiety of not knowing the extent of the damage is put to rest, and everyone returns to reality and can return to their daily lives. We can see some similarities in description of what the composer had in mind when he wrote this piece and in the way our group interpreted the music. The piece begins a little tense and unsettling. • 8. Fried Green Tomatoes At The Gentle Stop Cafe Novel Analysis One of the themes that can be seen throughout the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is racism and how it affected those living in the time period in which a large portion of the book is based. Fannie Flagg, the author of the novel, portays this theme in a variety of ways. One of the best examples being how two African American twins known as Jasper and Artis grow up to live entirely different lifes purely because of the shade of their skin. While Jasper is born with skin that has more of a tan color, Artis is born with a much darker complexion. This minor difference, although seemingly insignificant, has a massive impact on the lives of the twins in respect to the difficulties they face because of these characteristics. He and his brother Artis moved to Birmingham when they were young. . .but Artis wound up in jail two or three times (103). Ms. Threadgoode s description of the twins makes it clear that Jasper was successful and that Artis had a tendency to end up in jail, although she does not specificially say why this was the case. Seen as how both brothers are raised by the same parents in the same household, it doesn t seem logical that they would lead such different lives until you consider the color of their skin. Jasper is born with lighter skin which allows him to be able to maintain a relativley high paying job, eventually becoming the president of his union. Artis is born with darker skin and this leads him into a life of poverty, where he spends his time either in jail or wandering the streets. • 11. Brett Schaefer And Steven Groves Brett Schaefer and Steven Groves believes the United States decision was justifiable. They argue that the International Criminal Court has a worthy purpose, but still has issues that need to be addressed before the United States would join the court. Schaefer and Groves explain the Article 98 Agreement and the American Service Member Protection Act. Also their argument contains the five concerns the Bush Administration had about joining the ICC, but the two major concerns regard the fear of political abuse of power and also the threat to national sovereignty. In contrast, Michael P. Scharf believes the United States decision was unjustifiable. He argues, the conference in Rome attempted to compromise; however, the United States was not satisfied with the modifications. What makes the refusal unjustifiable is because the United States did not want be subjected to prosecutions and they did not want to take responsibility for their actions. Schaefer and Groves argument contains facts. As an example, the International Criminal Court does not have a clear definition of what the crime of aggression is and has yet to define the crimes it claims jurisdiction over (p. 152). This fact supports why the United States decision is justifiable because their military actions could be charged by enemy countries since there is no clear definition of what aggression means. Another example is that the International Criminal Court can prosecute an individual from a country that is not party ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As my eyes broke the horizon of the hill I felt something hit my feet, it was my stomach. Looking down the hill for 20 minutes I came to a conclusion, I m screwed. As we sat there, the three of us, with our eyes crawling over the hill to look down it once more, we got up. One by one. It was the first year my cousins and I had decided to go snowboarding. Most of the guys had no real experience going down hills while glued to a frictionless two by four. I was proud of the experience I had, a whole one inch of it. Going on a small practice runway just to get the feel of riding before going up was what we all started off on. My butt had became a close friend with the rock hard ground from all those unexpected meetings when the body wouldn t feel like going the same direction as the board. Feeling confident from making a new friend and wanting to go up some actual hills, we left the rest of the guys behind. I was one of the ones that felt like we were ready for some new friend making grounds. Making our way to the line to get onto the chair lift we all laughed as we knew that we were about to get hit with some reality. As the line slowly evaporated in front of me, I could hear the screeching sound of the cables getting louder. Simply just walking up the the lift and sitting down wasn t an option. In my opinion, Socrates was wise in all aspects of the word. If I were placed in his position and were to make the same decisions, I would not consider myself wise. I would consider myself to be a great fool, but given the circumstances and the parties involved I believe that Socrates made proper decisions in his defense. Socrates knew that the jury was prejudiced against him from the start and addressed it immediately. He tried to prove the oracle wrong by examining reputedly wise men and he realized that they thought that they knew things that they did not and this made them unwise. It was after these encounters that Socrates realized that the oracle meant that human wisdom is worth little or nothing. (19) It was this realization that made Socrates wise. Socrates knew that he would be convicted and sentenced to death, so his speech on death was not foolish. He was just addressing the inevitable. He says that a man of any worth does not think of life and death or of anything except whether he is acting as a good or bad man. Socrates does not fear death, for no one knows whether death may not be the greatest good that can happen to man. But men fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. (24) Socrates was borderline foolish when he discussed his political career and how he was ill suited for it because was just and made his decisions accordingly. This was a thinly veiled allusion to the moral character of the politicians of Greece, which must have been insulting and would not help acquit him. In addition to telecommuting from home more and more employees are using programs like the company Unilever to work remotely. In her article, Your Next Office: At Home? Rachel Emma Silverman describes how 84% of workers who worked remotely...did so at least once a week, up from 72% in 2008 (Silverman 2012). She writes of how this trend has truly grown and even expanded into new fields of work. The same advantages and disadvantages that our textbook writes of are included in this article. • 18. My Favorite Vacation This time last year, I went to the Cape Coral Coconut Festival, A festival held yearly in the large lot next to Sun Splash Family Waterpark, a local s hotspot every summer with guaranteed long lines and a densely packed lazy river. Everyone in my family was thrilled, my little brother and sister bouncing up and down on the seats of our family minivan, while my mom attempted to drive to the festival, amidst ear piercing shrieks, constantly reminding them to calm down. I too was excited, peering up at the brightly colored lights that stretched all the way to the sky. As we pulled into the lot, the rides seemed to loom above, the thought of riding them put a knot in my throat and made my stomach do backflips. We all burst out of the car, walking hand in hand, my little brother (5), my little sister (3), my Mom, my Dad, my grandma, and I. We all rode a few rides to satisfy the little ones, the ladybug ride, and then the merry go round. Shortly after, we passed by a large ride, where flashing lights and pounding music assaulted my senses. • 19. Research Study On Conducting Communication Research When conducting communication research, it is extremely important to take ethics into consideration. Will this research be confidential, will you use deception, and will the research you are doing harm any of the participants, are all extremely important factors to consider. These factors will be identified and considered while using the following hypothesis: As children increase their technology usage, interpersonal communication skills decrease. Confidentiality Anonymity The first ethical consideration that must be established is whether or not the study will offer confidentiality to the participating parties. In the instance of this communication research study, when it comes to trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, there will be no reason to not offer complete confidentiality and anonymity. In this study, we are analyzing children and the guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity would offer comfort so the participants can act naturally without fear of judgment (Jamison, n.d.). If I were a participant in this research study, I would prefer that all of the data collected remain confidential. I personally do not feel that the research study would need to be anonymous. This is because I am an adult and am comfortable in my responses as they pertain to the hypothesis. The hypothesis is not asking any overly person information be disclosed. However, since the hypothesis involves children that could be minors, I feel it is necessary that confidentiality and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Transportation And The Economic Health Of... we may not yet be living in an age of flying cars, as predicted in the 1985 film Back To The Future II, but the rise of smartphones and other new technologies is creating a reality that is arguably as exciting and almost as far fetched. Experts agree that economic and demographic changes, technological advances and environmental concerns are fundamentally altering the transportation landscape. It s a very dynamic time, said Robert Puentes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution s Metropolitan Policy Program thinktank. The most sustainable places to live are those places that have multi modal transport systems, Puentes said. You can t be a global competitive city if you don t have a robust transportation network. Here are three of the key trends that experts predict will shape the transportation industry over the coming years. Connectivity The rise of ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft essentially taxis booked at the click of a smartphone button and apps like Waze, which uses real time traffic data to find the quickest routes for drivers, is dramatically changing how people get around, and affecting the very way in which traffic moves through a city. Communication between riders and drivers, between different vehicles and between cars and infrastructure is bringing transportation into a new era, according to Allan Clelland, senior vice president at Iteris, a company developing new transportation technology. Google buys Waze map app for $1.3bn Read more The impact of these new apps could be broad. • 21. Pro And Cons Of Genetic Modification Approximately 4 million babies are born each year, among them, nearly 160,000 have a high chance of having genetic disorders said, Anne Matthews, an associate professor. Every parent s dream is to have a perfectly healthy and thriving child. No parent will want his or her child to have any disease. In 1973, Herbert Boyer and Stanley discovered method called genetic modification ( GNN Genetics and Genomics Timeline ). Genetic modification is the manipulation of organism genes using biology and technology. Gene modification includes different types of techniques such as cloning and genetic engineering. Genetic enhancement is the transfer of genetic material intended to non pathological human traits, said Kathi Hanna, a biomedical research writer. Gene enhancement is used to make people not only healthy but also raise their capacities. According to Begley Sharon, the senior science writer for Stat, 65 percent of individual support that altering gene of an unborn baby should be illegal. Parents should not have the right to genetically enhance their unborn child because it will limit the child s freedom and will lead to societal issues. The first reason why parents should not change the genes of their child is that it limits the child s autonomy. In the U.S, most adolescents are dependent by the age of 18. Since most of them are dependent, it means that they can already take care of themselves and make thoughtful decisions. A child who is genetically modified will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Nazi Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s Daddy The whole point of the poem Daddy is Sylvia Plath showing her emotions of how drained she felt from losing her father at a young age and how one death affected her whole life. The use of Nazi symbolism can be confusing, but plays a huge part in understanding the full meaning of what Plath was portraying. The use of intense imagery shows a story of Plath s deepest emotions. The story Plath is describing is showing the reader her extreme depression and every big moment in her life that hurt her more and more. One could describe the poem Daddy as a collection of Plath s most depressive memories in her life. Most or at least some may think this poem is about a girl who loses her father at a young age in a concentration camp due to the poor living conditions. I was one of those people thinking that was the case leading her to lose faith in God, much like how the Jews and others in concentration camps lost their faith in God. It can be easy to come to this realization because of her use of Nazi symbolism in the poem. That symbolism makes it hard for one to see that she is not literally in a concentration camp, but feels as though she is figuratively in a concentration camp. When you figure this out you can tell she uses the Nazi symbolism to describe how broken inside she felt as did the people in the concentration camps felt. She feels so broken because she loses her father at just 8 years old. A very reasonable and most likely action for a child that age is to tumble into a deep spiral of depression. Plath herself falls victim to this deep confusion and more so depression. A death of a loved one at that young of an age is already hard enough on an 8 year old, let alone it being her father. Her father being someone she looked up to and loved so greatly, perhaps even more than anyone, making the death even harder for her to bare. When you look deeper into her father s death with research you can tell he died in boston and not a concentration camp. This fact proving their family was not in a concentration camp and Plath was using the Nazi symbolism to describe her feelings on the untimely death and how she felt wronged by the world. Her father s death is where you can start to see Plath not understanding why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regret, accompanied with pity, assists Mary in convincing Mr. Danforth but it does not work in her favor because he does not want to backtrack on previous convictions made. • 29. Japanese Romanticism Essay Nations certainly exchange cultural, technological, and artistic inspiration, but the west was especially interested in the foreignness of the Asian world during the nineteenth century. Japan opened international trade in 1858 after a period of isolation, introducing their woodblock prints to European peoples. Europe, influenced by Romanticism, was fascinated with the exotic and quickly began incorporating Japanese techniques into their artwork, as I will describe in detail using the work of Edgar Degas (Lambourne 7). Europe had a curiosity for the Japanese way of life and aesthetics; moreover, Japan simultaneously began a rapid period of modernization based on the western model and reflected European principles in their art. I observed this transition in Japanese artwork, both through my readings and on the trip to the Dallas Museum of Art. Not only did Japanese culture influence the western artistic world in the late nineteenth century, including the work of Degas and other impressionistic painters, but the European style began to inspire many Japanese works. This two sided artistic influence demonstrates the exchange of western and eastern culture during the modernization of Japan and explains the roots of the Japonisme and Yōga periods in Europe and Japan, respectively. Before Japan opened its borders to western trade and cultural exchange, Europe pondered the unfamiliar Asian lifestyle. The Romantic movement in Europe provides context for this exoticism, or ... Plato s writings are the reason Socrates is historical figure he is today, without them Socrates would have been nothing more than a minor presence (Navia 93). This ambiguity has resulted in a situation where the ethical and legal implications of tax practice are serious considerations for any professional who is engaging in this line of work. • 48. Taking a Look at Heavy Metals Heavy metals are elements that exhibit metallic properties. It mainly includes the transition metals, basic metals, some metalloids, lanthanides, and actinides. Many different definitions have been proposed some based on density, some on atomic number or atomic weight, and some on chemical properties or toxicity (Duffus, 2002). Example for some heavy metal are iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) etc. Iron is important as a mineral in human body (part of haemoglobin) and also part of many enzymes and proteins. Deficient amount of iron in human body will cause anaemia while excess amount of iron may cause iron poisoning or hemochromatosis. Zinc is a metal which known as essential trace element as very little amount of it is necessary for human health. Zinc is important for cellular metabolism, catalytic activity of enzyme, immune system, synthesis of protein, wound healing, cell division and DNA synthesis (Sandstead, 1994; Solomons, 1998; Prasad, 1995). However, excess amount of zinc may lead to remarkable health problems such as depressed immune system, stomach cramp, vomiting, nausea and anaemia and skin irritation. Cadmium (II) ions are known of its toxicity in trace amount may result in poor health effect. Cadmium can be found easily in contaminated food or water. Workers of metal refining or smelting factory or cadmium product manufacturing have a high possibility to be exposed to cadmium. Long term exposure of cadmium lead to ... I have long been fighting for a change in the law when it comes to family policy, so that children have the right to know and have a relationship with both parents (elphicke.com). On February 25, 2013 Mr. Elphicke introduced a bill to Parliament which would help support Charlie s goal to put the children first. Mr. Elphicke told Parliament that around 3 million kids in the United Kingdom are living with separated parents and around 1 million children do not have contact with either of their parents. The push for this bill by Charlie Elphicke was finally recognized by Parliament on March 13, 2014 when the Children and Families Act was passed by both Houses. Another issue that Charlie Elphicke is trying to get ahold of is the tax avoidance of big multi national businesses. I spoke up for the need to reform our tax law fundamentally. To make sure that tax on profits from business carried out in the UK is paid (www.elphicke.com). Mr. Elphicke says that the problem is not the British businesses, but the companies who are world wide and do not pay the proper corporation tax that they should pay. April 16, 2012 was the first day that the Finance Bill was debated in Parliament and this is the bill that sets the taxes and the tax law. Charlie set forth a couple of ideas in this Bill about anti avoidance measures. The first principle is that business tax rates should be low, simple and attractive. Britain should be open for business, but open for business on a level playing field for national and international companies (www.elphicke.com). After years of continuing to debate and pushing forward the idea, under the Labour party income tax receipts went up, while the corporation tax stayed the same. To this day, Charlie Elphicke is continuing to call out many corporations for the continuation of tax avoidance he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Ragtime and Blues Influence on Jazz Ara Cho Ethno 50A 803 672 412 October 14, 2011 Seeing Ragtime and Blues as Parents of Jazz Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz? of John F. Kennedy center for the Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro Americans, and had elements of European and Afro American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing feel, syncopation, and improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the similarity between ragtime and blues is significant but there are numerous differences between the two music styles. First, their origin was different. Even though they both had African influence as mentioned, ragtime was more strongly influenced by European music style, and blues was heavily African music style. According to Durk Sutro in his book Jazz for Dummies, Ragtime was European influenced, in the sense that it was composed, not improvised, and featured carefully crafted melodies and harmonies...ragtime could sound concisely European (ch.5). Although European influenced, there is some African influence such as rhythm and African banjo music as mentioned during the lecture. Ragtime rhythm was the rhythms of the black dancers who used their heels to make drum sounds, or to that of the black church singers who could vary the rhythms of a Christian hymn so much that a white Christian could not even recognize it (Tirro, pp.37). On the other hand, Blues were basically from work songs of African Americans slaves at the time. It is a native American music, the product of the black man in this country, or, to put it more exactly the way I have come to think about it, blues could not exist if the African captives had not become American captives (pp.17), said Jones and Baraka.
