Pinterest is an online pinboard that allows users to organize and share interests. Teachers are using Pinterest to gather and organize educational materials for their classrooms. 2. What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is an online pinboard that
allows its users to organize and

utilizing Pinterest as a valuable tool
for gathering and organizing a pin

material for use in their classrooms. board

3. How to setup an account
Setting up an account.
You need an invite to activate an account with Pinterest.
• Request an invite via www.
Pinterest.com or
• Request an invite via your
Facebook account.
• Ask a friend with a Pinterest
account to send you an invite
(this is the quickest method).
• Invite your friends to join
Pinterest by clicking on the
arrow next to your name in the
upper right-hand corner, and
then pull down to invite
friends.

4. Pinterest is user-friendly

• Currently, I have 19 boards in
alphabetical order, consisting
of 258 total pins.
• The Pinterest site is user-
friendly. Nearly everything you
need to know about managing
your site can be found by
clicking on the buttons located
on your home page.

5. Editing a Pinterest profile
Your personal profile is important.
Others can see your profile at the top of your
Pinterest page; share something about yourself.
• On your Pinterest home page, click the arrow next to
your name and pull down to the Settings link.
• Write something about yourself in the About field
• You can upload an image, too.
• Additional information found on the Settings page
includes your Web site, gender, location, and
options to link your account to Facebook and/or
Twitter.

6. Create a new Board
When your account is
activated, new boards
will automatically be
created for you, but you
can add more.
• Click on the Add + button located
in the upper right-hand corner of
your homepage.
• Click on Create a Board. Title your
board in the Board Name field. For
example, “Art activities”.
• Choose a Board Category so other
teachers can locate your pinboards.
• In the Who can pin field, select Just
Me. For a shared account select Me +
Contributors. Click the red Create
Board button.

7. Adding Pins to boards
There are several ways to add pins
to a board:
• In the Search field, enter what you are
looking for and click the magnifying
glass. For example, type web 2.0 in the
search field and browse through the
images that appear.
• Or, Click Pins, Boards, or People.
• Or, Click Pinners you follow.
• Or, Browse Pinterest’s home page and
click the Repin button on the image.
• Or, Click the Add + button located in
the upper right-hand of your page.
Click on Add a Pin and enter the
URL of the Web site and click on
Find Images.
• Or, Click Add+, click on
Upload a Pin and click choose file.

8. Re-arrange your boards
You can alphabetize or
categorize your boards.
On your home page, adjacent to the Edit Profile
button is a box with arrows on the sides. Click
on this box and you will see the option to
Rearrange Boards.
A check symbol will activate. Now you can click
on a board and drag it to where you want it. I
put my boards in alphabetical order.

9. Edit cover of a board
You can assign a pin as a cover for a board.
• To change the cover of • Another window opens, allowing you to select another
your board, hover over cover photo and drag to position it. Click on the left or
right arrows to select your new cover photo and then
the current cover image
click on the red Set Cover button.
and click on the edit
board cover button.

10. Follow boards or people
You can choose which boards,
people you are following.
• On your home page, click on the
following button in the upper
right-hand corner.
• The people you are following
will appear.
• If you no longer want to follow
someone, click on the Unfollow
button on their pinboard page.
• If you want to choose which
boards you do or do not want to
follow for this person, click on
their name or photo and begin
clicking unfollow on the boards
you no longer wish to follow.

• Enter what you are searching for in the search field.
• Click the Pin it button when you locate the YouTube video
you want to add to your pinboard.
• Your YouTube video will play automatically when you click on
its pinboard.
