Graphics Mr Arthur
Aims of the Lesson To cover the following Graphical concepts Graphical Tools Manipulation of images
Features of Graphics Packages Change line thickness Scale Graphic Alter the size of the graphic Rotate Graphic Turn it around Crop Reduces its size by cutting parts from the edges
Common Tools Shapes – Circles, Rectangle, Polygon Free hand drawing – Pencil, Brush Fill Eraser Zoom Spray paint Straight Line Curve Line
Aims of the Lesson 2 To cover the following Graphical concepts Resolution Graphics Calculations
Pixels Graphics are made up of tiny dots called pixels. The quality of the picture is determined by the number of pixels per inch. This is called the Resolution The more pixels there are per inch the clearer the image is LOW RESOLUTION HIGH RESOLUTION
Calculating Storage Requirements The image below has 16 pixel across and 16 pixels down. Calculate the memory requirements to the nearest Kb 16 X 16 256 bits / 8 32 kilobytes
Calculating Storage Requirements The image below has 500 pixels across and 300 pixels down. Calculate the memory requirements to the nearest Kb 500 X 300 150,000 bits / 8 18,750 bytes / 1024 18.31 kilobytes
Calculating Storage Requirements The image below is 2 inches across x 2 inches down. The resolution is 400 d.p.i. (dots per inch) Calculate the memory requirements 800 X 800 640,000 bits / 8 80,000 bytes / 1024 78.125 kilobytes 2 inches X 400 = 800 dots 2 inches X 400 = 800 dots
Storage Requirements of Pictures The image is stored as a black and white bit-mapped graphic, measuring 4 inches by 4 inches with a Resolution of 300dpi Calculate the storage requirements in Kilobytes (4 X 300) = 1200 (4 X 300) = 1200 1200 X 1200 = 1,440,000 bits 1,440,000 bits 8 = 180,000 bytes 180,000bytes 1024 = 175.8 Kilobytes

Storage Requirements of Pictures The image below is stored as a black and white bit-mapped graphic, 800 pixels across by 400 pixels down. Calculate the storage requirements in Kilobytes 800 X 400 = 320,000 bits 320,000/8 40,000 bytes 40,000 / 1024 = 39.06 Kilobytes
Storage Requirements of Pictures The image is stored as a black and white bit-mapped graphic, measuring 2 inches by 3 inches with a Resolution of 500dpi Calculate the storage requirements in Kilobytes (2 X 500) = 1000 (3 X 500) = 1500 1000 X 1500 = 1,500,000 bits 1,500,000 8 = 187500 bytes 187500 1024 = 183.1Kb
Storage Requirements of Pictures The image is stored as a black and white bit-mapped graphic, measuring 3 inches by 4 inches with a Resolution of 200dpi Calculate the storage requirements in Kilobytes (3 X 200) = 600 (4 X 200) = 800 600 X 800 = 480,000 bits 480,000 8 = 60,000 bytes 60,000 1024 = 58.59Kb
