This document discusses and compares tuberculosis and sarcoidosis. Tuberculosis is caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and can present as infected sputum or chronic ulcers of the tongue. Sarcoidosis has an unknown cause and results in granuloma formation in the lungs, lymph nodes, salivary glands, and mouth. Both diseases are diagnosed through staining, culturing samples, or biopsy to identify characteristic granulomas, and sarcoidosis can additionally be suggested by raised markers on scans and tests.
