Google Project loon
1.
2. Project loon is a proposal to build a ring of balloons with the mission of
providing Internet access to rural and remote areas. The project uses high-
altitude balloons placed in the stratosphere at an altitude of about 20 mi (32
km) to create an aerial wireless network with up to 3G-like speeds. The loon
provide internet connection in rural areas and remote areas.. This project is
used to describe a new technology which is developed by a much known
developing company “GOOGLE”. Also this technology will be very helpful in the
field of Education, Medical and many more.
Introduction
3. How Loon Works?
Project Loon works on an open Radio Frequency Bands
Powered by solar energy and Wind energy.
Navigation Wind the Wind
Stratosphere:
Project Loon is able to take advantage of the steady
stratospheric winds, and remain well above weather
conditions, wildlife as well as airplanes.
Methodology
4. How Loon is Designed?
Envelope
Solar Panels
Electronics
How Loon Connects?
Each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area about 80
km in diameter using a wireless communications technology
called LTE. To use LTE, Project Loon partners with
telecommunications companies to share cellular spectrum so
that people will be able to access the Internet everywhere
directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices.
5. The Internet is one of the most transformative technologies of our
lifetimes. But for 2 out of every 3 people on earth a fast and an affordable
Internet connection is still out of reach
Nowadays in most of the countries in the southern hemisphere, the cost
of the Internet connection is more than a month’s income.
The Internet has a huge impact on developing countries. By 2016 we
expect the Internet to generate $4.2 trillion in value and doubling that of
2012.
The Internet accounts for more than 21% of GDP growth and contributes
to over 4% of national GDPs in the G20 economies
Recommendations
6. Solution:
So today we’re unveiling our latest moonshot from Google: balloon-powered
Internet access. We believe that it might actually be possible to build a ring of
balloons, flying around the globe on the stratospheric winds that provides
Internet access to the earth below. It’s very early days, but we’ve built a system
that uses balloons, carried by the wind at altitudes twice as high as commercial
planes, to beam Internet access to the ground at speeds similar to today’s 3G
networks or faster.
Business :
It will generate billion dollar a month in revenue and 10 billion in a year so
according to our study it is a good business too. After analyzing our whole
project we can conclude that project loon can be an enormous business, even
bigger than you tube which currently pulls in about 4$ billion in revenue per
year.
7. Advantages:
It will be available at very low cost.
It provides information without any hurdle at everywhere.
It promotes education as internet is a great source of knowledge
and educate people all over the world even to the exterior
corners.
It functions on solar energy uses of renewable energy make it
more worthy.
It can play a very important role after disaster .
Advantages and Disadvantages
8. Disadvantages:
By the invention of everything has two sides for the man-made things
treated as boon. Project loon also have some disadvantages like
hardware failure does not replaced as satellite communication. It also
disturbs internet privacy and international politics.
9. Conclusion
It allows countries to avoid using expensive fiber cable
for the welfare of people to make internet fast
affordable and to reach even to the extreme corners of
the world. The balloons are flying in the stratosphere,
with slow moving speed 5-20 mph. it flies at an altitude
of 20 km. each balloons provide internet for an area that
covers 1256km2 roughly, also relay 3g level data traffic
over 40 km radius. A small box weighing 10 kg
containing electronics equipment which help it to work
properly. It also has solar panel to conserve energy.
