The Black Family In The African American Family
The African American family
Family dynamics across all races are complex. For the state of the black family is
made even more complicated by a history rooted in slavery. Fractured families were
born out of a system where husbands were taken away, jailed or killed, leaving the
family weakened with a mother and/or grandmother at the helm. While these
historical facts may be true; that the black family is weak, can be argued. Yet, the
family for many in the black community and other communities of color extend to
include a large number of kin. On the other hand, it can also be argued that since
families were ripped apart during the slave trade it created an opportunity for setting
up networks of support and family units to include members who may not be blood
related. You often hear black peoplerefer to an elder as aunt or uncle these networks
were put in place as protective factors in the event that parents were sold there was
an assurance that someone would care for the children. To an extent this behavior
continues to this day as we see many fathers sentenced to long jail terms for petty
crimes or killed. The family structure makeup may be a blood relative and it may
also be kin of another kind. LaShawnDa Pittman discusses how these factors shape
the African American family and how slavery impacted the role of the mother and
father within the family system. During slavery there wasn t any possibility of
childhood. Children were socialized to begin work at the age of

Looking inside the building, color plays a crucial role in Museum of

contrasting these light gray bands of color the building envelope hovers above the
interior space like an abstracted shell. One of the most striking aspects of this
envelope is its color. The interior is treated with an intense white and blue fireproof
paint that immerses guests in the experience of color a hue that has been the topic
of intense artistic scrutiny in modern and contemporary art(New Museum of

Notes From The Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Underground Man is alone because he has chosen to be; he is hyper conscious,
meaning he is too aware and over analyses everything his biggest worries are petty
compared to what is going around him. As a society, we worry so much about
ourselves and our own persona, we sometimes become paranoid. A perfect
example is given when the Underground Man is on the verge of having dinner with
his old comrades and he notices a stain on his trousers The worst of it was that on
the knee of my trousers was a bug yellow stain. I had a foreboding that that stain
deprive me of nine tenths of my personal dignity. (NU 48) He immediately panics
as he worries about whether his friends will see it, and goes as far as to consider
forgetting dinner because he is so embarrassed. As shameful as it is to admit, we
too have reached the point where we are so concerned with out outer appearance
that we let it dominate most of our life there are several instances where we dictate
who we associate with and who we befriend based on their appearance. He is
severely misanthropic, marked by hatred, distrust, and disdain toward the human
race; he believes himself to be more intelligent and perceptive than most other people,
and this contrast with the fact that he despises himself and frequently feels inferior or
humiliated. Due to his lack of loving relationship growing up, he goes through life
full of shame and self loathing, often falling into existentialism. The Underground

Comparing Charles And Miss Awful By Arthur Cavanaugh
Charles by Shirly Jakson and miss awful by Arthur Cavanaugh In this essay I am
going to compare and contrast the characters, setting and themes of the short
stories, Charles and Miss Awful . The story, Charles , by Shirly Jackson is a funny
story about a boy who blames his behaviors on an imaginary classmate. The story,
Miss Awful , by Arthur Cavanaugh, is a story about a nice teacher who is replaced
by a strict substitute. While both stories involve a school, teachers and students the
theme is different in each story and teaches its readers a different lesson. The setting
in each story is very similar because they both involve classrooms and being at home.
In Charles the setting is mostly Laurie telling his parents about Charles and the bad
behavior he had at school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters in each story is very similar because they are both school related
and have teachers, students and parents in them. In Miss Awful , Roger has a sister
named Elizabeth while in Charles , Laurie talks about Charlie all the time. Roger
has a lot of friends at school while Laurie does not have a lot of friends but blames
it on Charles. The theme for Miss Awful is that strict teachers might not be that
bad after all and kids need to have discipline. The theme in Charles is more about
how the truth is bound to come out and you can t blame your problems on other
people. Another similarity between the two stories is that Laurie is blaming his
problems on someone else and Roger is blaming his problems on the teacher. In this
essay I have talked about the setting, characters, and theme of two different short
stories. The setting in Charles and Miss Awful we re the same they both took place
at home and at school. The characters were similar because they both dealt with
kids, teachers and schools. The themes in each story were different and made each
story really interesting to read.b The story Charles was true to life
The Relative International Diversification Benefits Of...
Using data from various countries, subsequent studies continue to investigate the
relative international diversification benefits of ADRs. However, the empirical
findings are inconclusive. For example, ussing weekly data of 113 ADRs from 8
countries (Australia, France, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and
UK) during the period of January 1980 to September 1994, Jiang (1998) find that
US portfolio with investment in ADR portfolios achieves better risk adjusted returns
than that containing foreign market index portfolios. Differing from Jiang, Bekaert
and Urias (1999) investigate the gains from holding the emerging market closed end
mutual funds, open end mutual funds, and ADRs in a global equity portfolio.35
Using mean variance spanning tests, they find that 35Their sample of closed end
funds consists of 23 U.S. funds and 19 U.K. funds investing in emerging markets as
70 diversification benefits from emerging equity markets are sensitive to the time
periods of the tests, and in some cases, to the particular investment vehicle. There are
similar diversification benefits accruing to direct exposure to emerging market
indexes, managed funds and ADR portfolios. Their findings confirm that ADRs are
useful for international diversification purpose. Using monthly data from 17
countries seven developed economies and 10 emerging economies over the period
of 1976 to 1993, Errunza et al. (1999) comprehensively analyze the gains from

Sand County Almanac Review
Part A: Aldo Leopold wrote about the connection humans should have with land
and/or nature. In part 1 of the book A Sand County Almanac reveals what Leopold
family sees and does on a weekend refuges from the shack . The shack is a national
historic landmark which was a rebuilt chicken coop along the Wisconsin River.
The theme in part 1 of Leopold s book is to have respect for small things. In order
to understand the meaning of Leopold s theme it is important to know the meanings
to all the words. The definition of respect is a feeling of deep admiration for
someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements
(Dictionary, 2015). When referring to the small things; Leopold is giving a sense of
wonder that helps us to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If everyone thought this way our wildlife, animals, nature, and environment would
be in better the way you would want them to be treated. This saying is simply
stating to people love to have nice things and when we get them we like to keep it
that way. So in relation to Leopold we have a nice beautiful environment in which
we should keep it that way. Think of our environment as a condition than what it is
now. Aldo Leopold was right when he said A thing is right when it tends to preserve
the integrity, stability, and the beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it
tends otherwise. (Sand CountyAlmanac, pg. 224 225). It is important for people to
reach and follow the values of Leopold explaining that beauty is not just scenery,
stability does not mean unchanging for change is essential to nature and the natural
world and integrity is wholeness, having all the parts. These three simple values will
change our perspective of the
Applied Behavioral Analysis Essay
Every single day is a struggle for an autistic child and his or her family. Autism
affects all aspects of a child s life from their ability to show affection to their family
to being able to do simple tasks such as communicating and thinking in ways that we
take for granted. Autism is defined as a developmental disability in which children
experience abnormalities in social functioning, language, often act in puzzling ways,
and usually appears before the age of three (Mash Wolfe, 2010). Although the exact
causes of autismare unknown there does seem to be a strong genetic component.

Since Skinner s time there has been much research done and many new techniques
made in ABA especially in regards of teaching people how to increase behaviors
associated with learning and decreasing those that may inhibit learning. These new
techniques have been used to help successfully treat or improve the lives of
several people with various degrees and types of disabilities and learning disorders.
These techniques have been adapted from being used exclusively on adults and
modified for children. These techniques can be formally initiated, meaning that they
are done in a classroom or a behavioral analysts office, or they can be taught to
parents or caretakers and are often used to develop skills such as learning theory of
mind, eye contact, social skills, and other necessary skills (Renna, 2004).
Children with autism have difficulties understanding social models and so many of
them have difficulties acquiring social skills while children with health development
normally gain social and appropriate behavior by observing a model (Mash Wolfe,
2010). If a child with autism is able to acquire social and adaptive skills they still
need to learn how to generalize correct behaviors to different situations and tend to
need consistent practice in maintaining those skills. To an autistic child generalization
can be extremely difficult to break down and understand. Because of this ABA is
Saudi Arabia And Iran Relations Essay
Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that sit on opposite sides of the Sunni/Shiite
divide, which can be argued as being the most prominent issue the Middle East faces
today. Saudi Arabia is predominantly known to be a Sunni state, while Iran is largely
inhabited by Shia Muslims. Both countries aspire to be the hegemonic powers of the
region. Ethnically, Iranis known to be a Persian land, unlike Saudi Arabia that is
known to be in the heart of the Arab world. These two countries are separated by the
Arabian Gulf and throughout the twentieth century and up until today, the
relationship between the two countries has been notoriously contentious. Within the
past few years especially relationships between the two states have been very fragile
with Saudi Arabia ending diplomatic ties early in 2016. The two states are strained
over many issues of which are, interpretations of Islam, oil export policy and
hegemonic regional leadership.
The current relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia is contentious and
competitive, however it can be said that it has improved since the twentieth century
when the two countries engaged in direct conflict. The two countries have a very
similar political agenda, which they use religion and faith to fulfill. They use the
rally around the flag concept in order to strengthen their political agendas through
their religious beliefs. The idea of a Sunni/Shitte divide is not as immense within the
country, but there is one. Saudi Arabia is more of a

Firstly I reflected on his childhood this helped me get into character, I looked ahead
and used that moment to physically get in role then I moved on to his time in the
army, I did this by pretending he was wear his badges and looked down at it, in this
moment I thought about his achievement in the army and how he became a dictator, I
then sat down and reflected on his personal life, I looked at his dad s picture and
remember what his dad said that he should fight for what he believes in and that
was what he did. He is happy and doesn t feel any regrets because he accomplished
his goal and whatever happens to him now won t change that, when he was getting
beaten up he was just smiling and was ready for anything.
I found this scene more effective after changing it from him committing suicide, as it
gave me time to reflect on the character rather than worrying about the most effect
way for him to kill himself.

Renaissance Art Gallery
Movements and Art Gallery
a.Renaissance
Renaissance movement is a period which took place between 14th and 17th century.
It began in Italy and later spread to the rest of European countries. It was a cultural
movement which tried to invent what was intellectually referred to as humanism.
This period is characterized by a more natural reality in painting as well as
educational reform. (Brotton, 2006).
Latin and vernacular literatures became common in this period with emergence of
learning techniques based on classical sources. It is this period that shaped the
political and social structures in Italy.
The renaissance art work symbolized a rebirth in the cultural practices both in the
middle ages and in modern times. A number of works of art took place at this period
and propagated by different artists. The first artwork which featured during the

end of the 18th century. The movement was at its peak at the era in between 1800

it and focus more on emotion and individualism. Glorification also characterized the
period. This period emerged as a reaction towards industrial revolution, the
enlightenment age as well as scientific rationalization of nature. (Gerald, 1987).
An example of a visual art performed during this romantic era is The Chancel and
crossing of the Tintern Abbey. This piece of painting occurred in 1794 and was
done by Mallord William Turner after he made two visits to Tintern Abbey a
monastery founded in 1131 but neglected in 1536. He was overwhelmed by the site
and painted a piece showing the smallness of man alongside the wilderness of
nature. The second example is Fishermen at Sea, work done by Turner still in 1794
where he sketched the sky, clouds and nature in general to show the wonderful
environment where man lives and the wonders of

classes along with the labs. Another important service I want to offer after I
graduate is to travel the world with medical organizations to provide care for
people and communities that are in need and less fortunate. It would be an amazing
experience to volunteer in projects that bring attention to people that seem to be

Marxism Isn t Dead Essay
ABSTRACT: I defend the continued viability of Marx s critique of capitalism
against Ronald Aronson s recent claim that because Marxists are unable to point to a
social class or movement away from capitalism, Marxism is over as a project of
historical transformation. First, Marx s account of the forced extraction of surplus
labor remains true. It constitutes an indictment of the process of capital accumulation
because defensesof capitalism s right to profit based on productive contribution are
weak. If generalized, the current cooperativemovement, well advanced in many
nations, can displace capitalism and thus counts as the movement Aronson challenges
Marxists to point to. It will do this, I argue, by stopping capitalist... Show more

Since Marxists are unable to point to a social class or a movement embodying change
away from capitalism, Ronald Aronson, still a Marxist, concludes Marxism is over
at least as a project of historical transformation. (5) He opposes capitalism but seeks
change in movements like feminism and anti racism, especially as informed by
postmodernism.
Both of these proclamations of Marxism s demise focus on Marx s political
strategy for moving toward socialism. Yet Marx s enduring pertinence lies instead
in his indictment of capitalism. Capitalism is fully alive. Over the past twenty years
the United States particularly merits Marx s indictment for its aggravations of class
divisions. As the rich get richer and the poor poorer, we are all pitted against each
other, millions in the third world are killed each year by humanly reproduced
poverty, environmental despoilation proceeds out of control, and handy advantages
of race, gender or nationality are used to exclude our neighbors. Thus, since
capitalism isn t dead, neither is the heart of Marxism.
I find two errors in Aronson s views: first, there are large anti capitalist movements
afoot meriting Marxists support. Secondly, socialists work not for Marxism, which is
a theory, but for socialism, which is a future non capitalist state of affairs. (6) What is

I was blown away with everything I tried and even got stuck on a few of them for
years. No matter who I went with, I always managed to find myself in a different
world; every one of them filled with such beauty and passion. Many were truly
amazing but I would always come to a point where I couldn t take it any further. I
wanted more expression and more of me in the art. Honestly, I think I wanted to
stand out from my families talents and excel on my own; do something better than
they could. I needed to have world of my own. Then it hit me. I was watching a
movie called Nightmare on Elm Street, after being petrified by the gruesome
creature known as Freddy Krugar my mother kept reminding me that it wasn t real.
I became obsessed with that concept. He isn t real yet we fear him so much, he was
an illusion that was beautifully executed through the art of make up. A make up
artist named, Robert Englund, took the time to make this horrific character, which
may have been make believe to us but was very real to him. He was able to take
the back story of a crazed child rapist and produce a creation from his imagination
and bring it into real life. It not only was the character itself dark and twisted but
the anatomy of him was just unbelievable. He managed to manipulate our eyes and
portray this very real person, simply by tweaking some ones anatomy. In a way he
was creating not only a character but a whole new life all together, and this concept
kept me in awe for years.
The Five Dimensions Of The Five Factor Model Of
Personality
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In reaction to globalization, rapid changes in external environments, and a desire by
organizations to remain competitive, organizations have continued to flatten,
decentralize, re engineer their business processes, downsize, and empower their
employees. To facilitate these changes and gain a competitive edge, managers are
increasingly turning to team structures. The actual team design used to support
organizational goals may include such structures as cross functional teams, functional
work teams, project teams, self managed teams, intact work teams, employee
participation teams, problem solving teams, maintenance or support teams, and

Beast From Water Alternate Ending Essay
CHAPTER FIVE Beast from Water
The tide was coming in and there was only a narrow strip of firm beach between the
water and the white, stumbling stuff near the palm terrace. Ralph chose the firm
strip as a path because he needed to think, and only here could he allow his feet to
move without having to watch them. Suddenly, pacing by the water, he was
overcome with astonishment. He found himself understanding the wearisomeness of
this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of one s
waking life was spent watching one s feet. He stopped, facing the strip; and
remembering that first enthusiastic exploration as though it were part of a brighter
childhood, he smiled jeeringly. He turned then and walked back toward the platform
with the sun in his face. The time had come for the assembly and as he walked into
the concealing splendors of the sunlight he went carefully over the points of his
speech. There must be no mistake about this assembly, no chasing imaginary. . . .
He lost himself in a maze of thoughts that were rendered vague by his lack of words
to express them. Frowning, he tried again. This meeting must not be fun, but
business. At that he walked faster, aware all at once of urgency and the declining
sun and a little wind created by his speed that breathed about his face. This wind
pressed his grey shirt against his chest so that he noticed in this new mood of
comprehension how the folds were stiff like cardboard, and unpleasant;

Phantom Of The Opera Compare And Contrast
Phantom of the Opera is a musical focusing on the career of Christine Dubios (also
known as Christine Daae). IMDB summarizes the plot with, Pit violinist Claudin
hopelessly loves rising operatic soprano Christine Dubois (as do baritone Anatole
and police inspector Raoul) and secretly aids her career (Phantom of the Opera
(1943)). But Claudin loses both his touch and his job, murders a rascally music
publisher in a fit of madness, and has his face etched with acid. Soon, mysterious
crimes plague the Paris Opera House, blamed on a legendary phantom whom none
can find in the mazes and catacombs. But both of Christine s lovers have plans to
ferret him out (Phantom of the Opera (1943))

Eddy has finally found his role. He is no phantom in this one; he is very much in
solid evidence, and his lungs are working as strongly and as loudly as they have
ever worked before. Indeed, you might almost think the picture was made just so
he might sing. And that is the principal reason why this remake of the old Lon
Chaney film is bereft of much of the terror and macabre quality of the original. The
feeling of this version was that the Phantom was an afterthought. The beginning of
the film is a musical that serves to set up the Phantom, or Erique Claudin,
storyline. You see the conductor having issues directing a violinist. The violinist
end up being fired and the rest of the story unfolds. The differences between this
version and the version of 1925 are numerous. 1943 the Phantom is created when
disfigured by a chemical burn and must hide after committing murder, whereas in
1925 the masked man has lived under the opera house for years and was born
disfigured. The 1943 version also felt like they were trying too hard to convey the
love interest and to have Christine at the center of a very off foursome not only was
she the love interest of Anatole Garron and Raoul Daubert, she was also the love
interest of the Phantom.
Heraclitus Research Paper
Heraclitus was a pre Socratic Greek philosopher, who was born around 500 BCE.
Heraclitus is best known for his theories that things are constantly changing, the
unity of opposites, and that fire is the basic material of the world. The Milesians
consist of three philosophers: Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes. First there is
Thales, who was a pre Socratic Greek philosopher born in 624 BC. Thales is most
well known for his theories that the world derives from water; the world rests on
water; the world is full of gods, and soul produces motion. Next, Anaximander was
a pre Socratic Greek philosopher born in 611 BC, and a student of Thales.
Anaximander s most famous theory is the claim that the basic stuff of the universe
is apeiron, infinite and boundless. Finally, Anaximenes was a pre Socratic Greek
philosopher as well, who was born in 585 BC. Anaximenes is most famous for his
claim that everything is air. These philosophers all sought to explain the natural
world, with different theories, and a few similarities. This essay will... Show more

Heraclitus believed that everything is in a constant stage of change. He uses fire as
his principle element to symbolize constant change. The elements of fire are
constantly changing, but its essence remains the same. Heraclitus regards fire as a
process, instead of an unchanging, underlying element of all things. If the fire were
to stop changing, it would stop existing. No man ever steps in the same river twice,
for it s not the same river and he is not the same man. No one can step into the same
river twice because the river is constantly changing, and it is no longer the same river
that it was the first time. At the same time, when stepping into the same river, this
person is not the exact same individual that they were the first time that they stepped
into the river; people change, and so does what is occurring around them. Nothing in

The First Atomic Structure And Its Impact On Science
In the year 400 B.C, the first atomic structure was made. It was thought that
everything could be broken down into very small particles. These small particles are
atoms, which it is what atomic structure is all about. Atomic structures are visual
demonstrations used to help understand how an atom looks like on the interior in the
inside and what it consists of. Over the years, atomic structures have greatly
improved and are still doing so. However, the first atomic structure had a great impact
on scienceand on other observations made about atoms. The philosopher Democritus
was the man behind one of the first atomic structures. Even though many studied the

Americans draw social cues from movies and television. When the media that
Americans watch is showing that affairs are acceptable to participate in, then more
people will engage in affairs. Movies are not the only means of media to glorify
infidelity. Television furthers the acceptance of infidelity with shows like ABC s
Mistress. The show follows the affairs of four married women and how these
affairs lead the woman down a path of self discovery. What the show conveys to
the audience is an image that affairs are acceptable. The danger of entertainment
that shows the acceptance of infidelity is that the acceptance of infidelity becomes
reality. The reality then becoming relationships being formed with the intent of
those involved being unfaithful. The breakdown of marriages caused by the
images and messages portrayed in our entertainment is slowly deteriorating the
identity of marriages. As the identity of marriages is degraded by entertainment
other media sources display the growing acceptance if infidelity. News stations, a
form of media trusted by many Americans, will display urgent segments on the
affairs of political leaders. When President Bill Clinton professed his guilt of
having a sexual affair with Monica Lewinski the American public initially

Self-Determination in the Basque Country Essay examples
Self Determination in the Basque Country
The Basques, settled on the Franco Spanish border, are a people who do not have a
country that exists as an entity of its own. They are not recognized internationally.
Their borders are not respected, and their culture is repressed. Thus the history of the
Basque Country is one of contentious protest against imposed conditions, unremitting
effort in defense of its identity and a relentless search for a means of democratizing
public life. They have not been able to practice or pursue the right to self
determination as stated in the international covenants on human rights (above) and the

Nevertheless, the number of individuals who use it daily or at least have a working

Although the language is slowly being reintroduced to communities, repression

with both their lack of territorial unity and the inferior status of their language, as
well as frustrated by the lack of a more participatory democracy. It is said that, The

Human Anatomy Based On Dissection
Art is word that most individuals have an idea, a mental category, of yet often fail
to truly define. This is due to the fact that art is a term that has existed for
thousands of years and thus its meaning and lexicography has changed drastically
over the years based on endless factors. Art started off being defined as a craft,
measured by the technical prowess of the artist and used as tool in the retelling of
history or for religious practices and doctrine. From there, it evolved into a practice
of replication, attempting to create the most realistic of images, particularly around
the time of the renaissance, with the invention of linear perspective and a growing
understanding of human anatomy based on dissection. In the renaissance, the more
technically capable an artist is in recreating life, the more talented he is seen to be.
However, movements like impressionism, a reaction to the invention of
photography, now aimed for, not realism, but the capturing of the impression of the
image, using colour and broad brushstrokes, giving pieces an unfinished look.
Symbolism and expressionism aimed for a less literal view of the world. In
reaction to freud s interpretation of dreams, surrealism aimed to explore the creative
potential of the human psyche, while the modernist movement resulted in art that

Tiger Woods Accomplishments
Tiger Woods began to play golf at a young age with his father, Earl, as his teacher.
By the time Woods was 8, he had almost completely mastered the game and even
showed his talent off on TV on shows, such as Good Morning America. Little did he
or his father know that he would grow up to be one of the greatest golfers in the
history of the game.
After turning pro in 1996, he played many PGA tournaments. One of his most
famous moments was when he won the Masters in 1997 as the youngest man ever to
win it in history. Along with winning it, he set the record score of 270 and was the
first African American to win the Masters.
Tiger s fame increased as he continued to succeed in golf. He tied the course record at
the British Open with a score of 64. Among his other accomplishments included three
U.S. Open wins, four U.S. PGA titles, three Open Championship wins, and three more
wins at the masters.
Though described as the world s greatest golfer, he had many downfalls. Fans had
suspicions of Tiger having affairs with several other women, although he was
married. From this his career went downhill. Woods suffered many injuries including
back troubles from his swing and had to have knee replacement surgery. Several

Comparison Of The Second Great Awakening And The

The 19th century America gave way to the social and moral reform that created the
Second Great Awakening, focusing on various beliefs such as temperance,
reformation of religious views on slavery and women s inequality. Many of this
reformist wanted to save America from its sins , from slavery to inequality. Though it
was called the Second Great Awakening, it was very different from the First Great
Awakening. The First Great Awakening focus on the person s individuality, while the
Second Great Awakening focused on the community/country as a whole. The Second
Great Awakening gave preachers the voice of power, to tell people that they needed
reformation, one such reformist was Lyman Beecher, he is the father of Harriet
Beecher Stowe, who wrote Uncle Tom s Cabin that greatly emphasized on slavery
and how it was wrong. In his sermon A Reformation of Morals Practicable and
Indispensable . Beecher wanted to reform their morals and their beliefs. He wanted
to revive people s faith and feel a deep connection with God. He wanted these
reform due to the overall consumption of alcohol in America, which he believed was
a sin to mankind, and causing a false sense of happiness that leads them to their
damnation. Many posters were developed to further spread the Second Great
Awakening. These posters promoted many things such as the temperance movement,
which tried to restrain people from drinking alcohol. One such poster that emerge

Trinity Monistic
Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a common phrase in the Christian faith. Who are these
people and what do they represent? These three people are separate people, but
represent one God. The concept of the Trinity creates a lot of debate, because some
skeptics think that the Trinity is either Monistic or Pagan. The Father, Son and Holy
Spiritare three separate beings that represent one God, and this can be seen in
different passages in the Bible.
Is the Trinity Monistic or a Pagan grouping of Gods? The Trinity is not monistic
because God does not reveal himself in three different forms. The Trinity is three co
existing eternal persons who exist as one God. The Trinity is also not three separate

An example of this trend takes place in the book of Isaiah. Jesus states I AM several
times in the chapter. Jesus is making a strong statement that he is God. God is the
Trinity, and Jesus is one of the persons that make up God. In John 5:18 Jesus
breaks the rules of the Sabbath, and calls God his own Father. Jesus is making it
known that he is the Son of the Father, and therefore, equal to God. The only way
Jesus could be God is if he is the Son of the Father. This passage shows Jesus place
in the Trinity. The most concrete example of Jesus being one with God takes place
in John 10:33. Jesus states I and the Father are one where Jesus is very clearly
defining himself as God. Jesus is God along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus proves he is a part of the Trinity by clearly stating that he is one with

June 21, 2016 Al Qaeda grew from the Service Office founded in 1980 lead by the
infamous Osama bin Laden. This was an office that was tasked with destroying
Muslim brigade that stood in the way of the Soviets invasion of Afghanistan.
However, Laden did not want to stop after this task. He began to train and recruit
warriors from over 20 countries. With these fighters, Bin Laden planned to carry the
holy war past Afghanistan. This lead to the creation on Al Qaedain 1988. The group
was focused on removing western influence from Muslim theocracy and create strict
Islamic governments.
The group operates with no central headquarters. In the year 1991 to 1996, Al Qaeda
had points of operation around the Pakistan Afghan border and in Pakistani cities.
However, during the Era of the Taliban, they shifted from Pakistan to Afghanistan.
Since its creation the group has been responsible for a total of 13 major attacks. These
attacks included the bombings of the U.S embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dares

The books are piled in shelves, upon each other in seemingly endless towers,
everywhere across the room. They are located in corners mostly, with the
occasional on a desk or chair. They are old, faded, and worn, but loved as well. Each
tells its own story, whether it is of heroic knights and far away castles or daring
accounts of long ago events.
In one corner of the room stands an elegant wooden piano. Its ivory keys are cracked
with age but, when played, the sound is exquisite and dreamlike. On it is a vase of
dying roses so fragile petals fall down whenever there is a shift in the air.
There are no windows in the room; where there should be, woven tapestries and
paintings hang instead. The walls are of swirling mahogany wallpaper with dark
cherry wood trimming the edges and running along the bottom, and the whole place
is illuminated by small glowing lanterns protruding from the walls, casting a
welcoming glow upon the proximity.
A man walks around the room, straightening the books in a seemingly fluid, casual

crisp red tie that provides a striking contrast, but his hair is even more shocking.
Although he is very young, it is pure white, combed and styled shortly. His jawline

wide brow and narrow yet prominent cheekbones. His face falls in and out of

These actors portray first loves and heartbreak that tugs on your heartstrings

which it gives off a comfortable, warm feeling to the viewers at home or in the

window. A nurse is asking her several questions about how she is feeling and what
she would like to do that day. Allie doesn t give off any interest in doing anything
the nurse is suggesting. Noah enters her room with a notebook, offering to read to
her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something else but Allie quickly accepts
Noah s offer and sits herself down to listen to him read from the notebook that which

Season implemented The Ketogenic Diet. The human body produces cancerous cells
daily, so building a strong immunity is imperative when fighting off cancer cells and
the harsh chemicals from treatment. The Ketogenic Diet is a new cancer treatment,
which is free, with virtually no side effects. It can also be conjoined with other cancer
treatments. The diet involves cutting carbohydrates, beginning with the worst
carbohydrate of all, sugar (Johnson L, 2013). It is a high fat, adequate protein, low
carbohydrate diet. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.
Normally the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which
are then transported around the body. However, if there are little carbohydrates in
the diet then the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. Ketone bodies
are water molecules that are produced when the body is consuming very little food,
which mimics fasting. Cancer is an obligate glucose metabolizer because it fuels on
sugar. One s normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from saving glucose
by using ketone bodies (Johnson S, 2014). This addressed that because cancer

All in all, the researchers predicted that there is a positive relationship between
pleasure and brand recognition. The researchers conducted a quasi experimental
approach, which means the researchers do not have full control over the experimental

correlation between engagement and memory after showing the product placement.
Their participants were 166 high school students in Sydney, Australia, ages 14 16 who
were heavy movie watchers. They showed the participants the movie Legally Blonde,
which had twenty two product placements within the movie followed by a post
questionnaire. The questions simply asked if they noticed any of the products in the
movie with yes/ no/not sure as the options for them to answer. For their engagement
test, they utilized Mehrabian and Russell s pleasure, arousal, dominance scale, which
measured pleasantness versus unpleasantness and positive versus negative feelings.
Their results concluded that pleasure has a significant, positive relationship with
brand recognition. The analysis indicates that when all levels of engagement are
present, which includes pleasure, arousal, and cognitive effort, brand recognitions

Diegetic Techniques Used In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Horror genre movies have been going around for years, and have always been a
success. However, horror movies have had been lacking diegetic and synchronous
sound. Movies such as The Cabinet Of Doctor Caligari (1919) use their mise en
scene such as their sets design, camera angles, non diegetic soundtracks and tint to
enhance the lack of sound, to increase the tension. However it is different for the
infamous horror movie, Frankenstein (1931).
Frankenstein, in defiance to this norm, uses a lot of synchronized sound or diegetic
sound elements. The movie does not use any soundtrack, and utilizes generic set
designs. Its application of diegetic sound is used to increase the tension and to create
a more spooky feeling throughout the whole movie: natural sounds such as thunder
and rain, muffled or creaking sounds of footsteps when people are approaching from
behind or walking up the stairs, are used frequently in the movie. Even without any
soundtrack or tint, it creates spooky or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

elation. Slowly, he said: its moving! and as he speaks the sound of the thunder dies

He later then shouted, It s alive! and he claims that in the name of God he know
how it feels like to be a god. From this dialog, and the tone of his sound, we could
once again clearly see that Dr. Frankenstein simply sees himself as a much more
superior being than the others, even comparing himself to God, the creator of all
Dracul Gothic Fiction In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian Era, Gothic fiction was an exceedingly popular literature genre
among numerous people because it was relatively new. Such elements as death,
gloom, suspense, mystery, and terror make up a Gothic novel in literature. The novel
Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, was the ideal Gothic fiction in the 19th century and
still is today because of its incorporation of vampires, castles, spine chilling murders,
and overpowering emotions which contribute to the Gothic atmosphere. Draculais set
in Transylvania, during the Victorian Era. The setting is extremely significant in
Dracula because it contributes abundantly to the Gothic atmosphere the novel
possesses. In this novel, the setting includes wild Transylvanian landscapes, dreary
buildings, secret hidden rooms, an asylum, and a graveyard. Such setting
contribute to the novel s gothic ambiance because they are places that usually tend
to reveal a perturbing feeling to those surrounding it. The most seen settings in the
novel Dracula is Dracula s castle, the graveyard by St. Mary s Church and Dr.
Seward s asylum which all contain gloomy features that contribute to the Gothic
atmosphere in Dracula. Dracula s castle is described as It contains all in all some
twenty acres, quite surrounded by the solid wall above mentioned. There are many
trees on it, which makes it in places gloomy, and there is a deep, dark looking pond

Lastly, committing to Sikh religion is by knowing and enacting the values and the
rituals, which couples tend to deceit. The Sikh vows and taking amrit, is a way for
an individual to seal one s inner commitment to oneself with the power of one s word.
There are two levels couples cannot commit in Sikhism. They naturally evolve from
one another. Sikh vows are simple statements of commitment, understanding, and self
discipline. The vows abstain of cutting your hair, refraining from meat, alcohol and
other stimulants, maintaining a monogamous relationship with spouse, and
committing to meditation and prayer each day. Couples do not devote to the vows
rather satisfy themselves by eating meat, drinking alcohol, and cutting their hair. The
most powerful vows on the path of Sikhism are amrit (Baptize), Sikhs undertake

they are making to the religion. Even though Sikhs are baptized, they don t commit

these rituals or value most couples and individuals consider them tedious and not

and still consider wealth as one of the factors while looking for their real soul mate.
However the marriage preparation course would help couples to grasp on to these

Globalization And Globalization
Many times we take things for granted, especially when we have lived our whole

Many times the land of a country doesn t produce enough food because of the

plus many of this farmers are the ones who keep the land producing and bringing
food. This information shows how the entire country is relying on 49% of cultives,
which means that there s not enough food since hurricanes, and other disgrace keep

Moreover, the land isn t producing enough food since the land isn t being fertilized

The three ways in which the expansion of the shop can be financed is to use part of
the profits earn from the shop sale, set up booth in public festivals and the owner can
contribute some money from personal accounts.
One way which expansion can be financed is to use part of the profit earned from
sales from the previous years to open a new branch. This can be done by using half
of the profit earned from sales earned every month. When owner have an idea to
open a new branch, he or she can financed part of profit earlier for the new branch.
The second way is to set up a booth. It can be in schools, shopping malls, festivals,
carnivals, open days or other celebration days to earn more money other than getting
the money from the sales earned from the business. The owner can set up a booth
while there is a festival or public holiday coming around. They can also set it in some
carnivals which can earn them more money.
The third way is contribute the money is from his or her own personal savings. The
owner can contribute a part of the money that in his or her personal savings account

Chemical Weapons And Nuclear Weapons
Chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons have changed the way that people look at
wars forever. Since their implementation into the battlefield, it has been realized that
these taboo weapons are ones to be feared. Responsible for an extravagant amount of
deaths over the past eighty years, chemical, biological, and nuclear threats are not to
take lightly. A nuclear weaponis an explosive device designed to derive its destructive
explosion via nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, or a combination of the two processes .
The implementation of nuclear weapons was a
Figure 1) serious game changer, and gave the upper hand to the more
technologically advanced countries because of the scientific efforts that go into
developing these weapons, making the possession of nuclear weapons a more apt
problem for nations themselves, rather than non state actors, such as terrorist
groups. As shown in Figure 1, there has been a general steady decrease of the
amount of nuclear weapons held by the United States. This is where chemical and
biological weapons differ from nuclear weapons. Over the past years, chemical and
biological weapons have seen more action, and this can be attested to the significant
difference in developing these weapons. Because chemical and biological weapons
are so easily acquired, it is more likely to see them being used by terrorist groups
rather than nations themselves. Because of the potential threats and easy obtainment
of biological weapons, they are potentially the
Essay Qin Dynasty
Within the years of 221 206 BCE, the Qin Dynasty rose as a superpower. During this
time period, the Warring States Era, Chinese civilization was impacted tremendously
in almost every aspect. These hallmarks in history vary from the spreading of
Legalism to the birth of the Great Wall of China. Through these countless
contributions, the Qin Dynasty was able to revolutionize the Chinese civilization in
such a short period of time. After unifying the Chinese empire, Qin Shi Huangdi
made several reforms that enhanced Chinese society. Unification of the empire was
crucial because it marked the rising of Qin Shi Huangdi(leader of Qin Dynasty) and
how he established 40 prefectures, or states (Perkins OL). Soon after extending the
empire, Shi... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, literature was discouraged under Legalism because they were
believed as poisons to the mind. The Legalists believed this way because not all
the information in books contains the truth. Agriculture and war were promoted
on the other hand, because it would carve a rich and powerful empire (Walker 39).
Many argue that the harshness of Legalism caused the downfall of the Qin
Dynasty. However, it was one of the main reasons by the Qin Dynasty stood as the
strongest among the Chinese states and possibly in the world. The reason why is
because harsh punishments encouraged good conduct and discipline. When this is
brought upon, there will be more room to contribute to society and there will be
fewer worries about crimes being committed. In addition, the conduct and
discipline was a plus for the military. By doing what they are told, the military can
execute their job perfectly. All in all, Legalism flourished the Qin Dynasty; it did
not cause it to go downhill. One of the wonders of the world today is the Great
Wall of China which was inspired by none other than the Qin Dynasty. Other
dynasties put in dedication to having the Great Wall constructed but the Qin
Dynasty played a significant role in coming up with the idea for it. The Great Wall
of China would benefit China greatly because it would serve as defense against
nomadic tribes. Apart from being protected by nomadic tribes, the Great Wall would
be a benefit for China s forever. Other countries
Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Essay
One can discover the common connection of how similar the author s life is to their
pieces of writing by finding the details in their writing that resemblance their life
events. The writer of Rules of the Game , Amy Tan, was stirred by her own
experiences and past to write this story. Tan was a Chinese American girl that grew up
trying to fit into two discrete cultures, not knowing how she fitted into her
surroundings. Amy Tan had a difficult childhood, from her older brother and father s
death to having a troubled relationship with her mother. Similarly, Tan s short story,
Rules of the Game , is about a young girl and chess prodigy named Waverly Place
Jong who engages in a psychological battle of wills with her mother. Waverly and
her mother had a very rough time getting along and Waverly s mother s force of
Chinese culture on her had boiled Waverly down.... Show more content on

(Tan 2) At first Vincent doesn t let her play, but Waverly persuades him with her
candy. (Tan 4) Even though she loses against him, she catches the chess bug. She
becomes very talented and a deft player at the game of chess. One day, she visits
the playground and she challenges an old man to a game of chess. However, she
loses against him. (Tan 5) That old man becomes Waverly s silent coach as he sees
a significant amount of potential in her. (Tan 5) On a Saturday in the food market,
Waverly confesses to her mother that her pride embarasses her. Waverly says this
because her mother would repeatedly brag to everyone about how fine Waverly is
at playing chess. In a haste, Waverly runs away from her mother and Waverly s
mother stands in complete awe. After Waverly spent a very lengthy day all alone, she
realized the fact that she cannot survive on her own. At the end of the story, Waverly
is thinking about her next move in the battle of wills against her mother. (Tan
Tijuana Summary
Questions Derived from Moral Landscaping
Ian Bogost investigated how games could teach particular procedures and practical
systems to players. But Julian Dibbel s investigation in Tijuana revealed how
players could transform procedures into self serving, manipulative machines.
Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost or Epistemic Games for that matter
hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between Epistemic Games
transferring players power into solutions to real life problems and Blacksnow
transferring power into real life profit? Simply stated, it is the players motivation.
More complexly stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing
players into a work based system of economic growth.
Candy Crush transfers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And are these games really just simulations of real life? This would make sense
since games now have real life applications and implications. But all things
considered, the difference between a game and a simulation is arbitrary and based
strictly on one s definition of each term. If the difference relies on how realistic the
game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty might as well be called a
combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the still in
development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill
automatically turn a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low stakes
simulation of its real life counterparts. Pit, then, is a non digital, non profit simulation
of stock market trading...that is, of course, unless one started playing for money.
Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a simulation, or even into work?
These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor behind why games are
made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire for
profit.
The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by
profit. Whether other companies design games for other uses to teach or to problem
solve is outside the scope of what the industry (not so much the indie developers)
prides itself on. King wants to make money for its product; that is common sense.
Whether the company makes money on the front
H1n1 Influenza Pandemics
How has the Federal Government dealt with pandemic Influenza outbreaks in the
past? In previous years, there have been many outbreaks of the influenza virus in
many different strains. These outbreaks have occurred all over the world, ranging
from the worst Influenza outbreak in history, the Spanish Flu of 1918, to the first
Influenzaoutbreaks of the 21st century, the Swine Flu waves of 2009 and 2010. In
the United States, the federal government works closely with the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, the CDC, and the World Health Organization, the WHO, to
track seasonal influenza activity, which includes H1N1. The WHO has a Global
Influenza Program that provides global standards for influenza surveillance and

Lane 4 short months, it affected forty to fifty percent of the population. The mortality
rate was approximately one in four thousand, with the death rate exceeding one
million cases.
The H3N2 Hong Kong Flu or Avian Flu of 1968 and the H1N1 Russian Flu of 1977
also appeared to begin at an unknown location somewhere in China. In both cases, the
outbreaks spread quickly and consistently to go on and affect India, Iran, Australia,
North America, and Russia. Between both instances of these pandemics, roughly
sixty thousand deaths were recorded.
In any North American pandemic occurrence, the U.S. federal government will work
actively with the CDC and the WHO to find the source of the outbreak as well as
ensure that a vaccine is created to prevent said pandemics from spreading further and
resulting in more unnecessary

  • 2. The Black Family In The African American Family The African American family Family dynamics across all races are complex. For the state of the black family is made even more complicated by a history rooted in slavery. Fractured families were born out of a system where husbands were taken away, jailed or killed, leaving the family weakened with a mother and/or grandmother at the helm. While these historical facts may be true; that the black family is weak, can be argued. Yet, the family for many in the black community and other communities of color extend to include a large number of kin. On the other hand, it can also be argued that since families were ripped apart during the slave trade it created an opportunity for setting up networks of support and family units to include members who may not be blood related. You often hear black peoplerefer to an elder as aunt or uncle these networks were put in place as protective factors in the event that parents were sold there was an assurance that someone would care for the children. To an extent this behavior continues to this day as we see many fathers sentenced to long jail terms for petty crimes or killed. The family structure makeup may be a blood relative and it may also be kin of another kind. LaShawnDa Pittman discusses how these factors shape the African American family and how slavery impacted the role of the mother and father within the family system. During slavery there wasn t any possibility of childhood. Children were socialized to begin work at the age of

One of the most striking aspects of this envelope is its color. The interior is treated with an intense white and blue fireproof paint that immerses guests in the experience of color a hue that has been the topic of intense artistic scrutiny in modern and contemporary art(New Museum of Contemporary Art, 2015). • 4. Notes From The Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Underground Man is alone because he has chosen to be; he is hyper conscious, meaning he is too aware and over analyses everything his biggest worries are petty compared to what is going around him. As a society, we worry so much about ourselves and our own persona, we sometimes become paranoid. A perfect example is given when the Underground Man is on the verge of having dinner with his old comrades and he notices a stain on his trousers The worst of it was that on the knee of my trousers was a bug yellow stain. I had a foreboding that that stain deprive me of nine tenths of my personal dignity. (NU 48) He immediately panics as he worries about whether his friends will see it, and goes as far as to consider forgetting dinner because he is so embarrassed. As shameful as it is to admit, we too have reached the point where we are so concerned with out outer appearance that we let it dominate most of our life there are several instances where we dictate who we associate with and who we befriend based on their appearance. He is severely misanthropic, marked by hatred, distrust, and disdain toward the human race; he believes himself to be more intelligent and perceptive than most other people, and this contrast with the fact that he despises himself and frequently feels inferior or humiliated. Due to his lack of loving relationship growing up, he goes through life full of shame and self loathing, often falling into existentialism. The Underground Man s urge for

Comparing Charles And Miss Awful By Arthur Cavanaugh Charles by Shirly Jakson and miss awful by Arthur Cavanaugh In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the characters, setting and themes of the short stories, Charles and Miss Awful . The story, Charles , by Shirly Jackson is a funny story about a boy who blames his behaviors on an imaginary classmate. The story, Miss Awful , by Arthur Cavanaugh, is a story about a nice teacher who is replaced by a strict substitute. While both stories involve a school, teachers and students the theme is different in each story and teaches its readers a different lesson. The setting in each story is very similar because they both involve classrooms and being at home. In Charles the setting is mostly Laurie telling his parents about Charles and the bad behavior he had at school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The characters in each story is very similar because they are both school related and have teachers, students and parents in them. In Miss Awful , Roger has a sister named Elizabeth while in Charles , Laurie talks about Charlie all the time. Roger has a lot of friends at school while Laurie does not have a lot of friends but blames it on Charles. The theme for Miss Awful is that strict teachers might not be that bad after all and kids need to have discipline. The theme in Charles is more about how the truth is bound to come out and you can t blame your problems on other people. Another similarity between the two stories is that Laurie is blaming his problems on someone else and Roger is blaming his problems on the teacher. In this essay I have talked about the setting, characters, and theme of two different short stories. The setting in Charles and Miss Awful we re the same they both took place at home and at school. The characters were similar because they both dealt with kids, teachers and schools. The themes in each story were different and made each story really interesting to read.b The story Charles was true to life

Using data from various countries, subsequent studies continue to investigate the relative international diversification benefits of ADRs. However, the empirical findings are inconclusive. For example, ussing weekly data of 113 ADRs from 8 countries (Australia, France, Japan, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and UK) during the period of January 1980 to September 1994, Jiang (1998) find that US portfolio with investment in ADR portfolios achieves better risk adjusted returns than that containing foreign market index portfolios. There are similar diversification benefits accruing to direct exposure to emerging market indexes, managed funds and ADR portfolios. Their findings confirm that ADRs are useful for international diversification purpose. Using monthly data from 17 countries seven developed economies and 10 emerging economies over the period of 1976 to 1993, Errunza et al. Autism affects all aspects of a child s life from their ability to show affection to their family to being able to do simple tasks such as communicating and thinking in ways that we take for granted. Autism is defined as a developmental disability in which children experience abnormalities in social functioning, language, often act in puzzling ways, and usually appears before the age of three (Mash Wolfe, 2010). These new techniques have been used to help successfully treat or improve the lives of several people with various degrees and types of disabilities and learning disorders. These techniques have been adapted from being used exclusively on adults and modified for children. These techniques can be formally initiated, meaning that they are done in a classroom or a behavioral analysts office, or they can be taught to parents or caretakers and are often used to develop skills such as learning theory of mind, eye contact, social skills, and other necessary skills (Renna, 2004). Children with autism have difficulties understanding social models and so many of them have difficulties acquiring social skills while children with health development normally gain social and appropriate behavior by observing a model (Mash Wolfe, 2010). If a child with autism is able to acquire social and adaptive skills they still need to learn how to generalize correct behaviors to different situations and tend to need consistent practice in maintaining those skills. To an autistic child generalization can be extremely difficult to break down and understand. Because of this ABA is

Saudi Arabia And Iran Relations Essay Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that sit on opposite sides of the Sunni/Shiite divide, which can be argued as being the most prominent issue the Middle East faces today. Saudi Arabia is predominantly known to be a Sunni state, while Iran is largely inhabited by Shia Muslims. Both countries aspire to be the hegemonic powers of the region. Ethnically, Iranis known to be a Persian land, unlike Saudi Arabia that is known to be in the heart of the Arab world. These two countries are separated by the Arabian Gulf and throughout the twentieth century and up until today, the relationship between the two countries has been notoriously contentious. Within the past few years especially relationships between the two states have been very fragile with Saudi Arabia ending diplomatic ties early in 2016. The two states are strained over many issues of which are, interpretations of Islam, oil export policy and hegemonic regional leadership. The current relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia is contentious and competitive, however it can be said that it has improved since the twentieth century when the two countries engaged in direct conflict. The two countries have a very similar political agenda, which they use religion and faith to fulfill. They use the rally around the flag concept in order to strengthen their political agendas through their religious beliefs. The idea of a Sunni/Shitte divide is not as immense within the country, but there is one. Saudi Arabia is more of a

This period is characterized by a more natural reality in painting as well as educational reform. (Brotton, 2006). It is this period that shaped the political and social structures in Italy. The renaissance art work symbolized a rebirth in the cultural practices both in the middle ages and in modern times. • 14. Marxism Isn t Dead Essay ABSTRACT: I defend the continued viability of Marx s critique of capitalism against Ronald Aronson s recent claim that because Marxists are unable to point to a social class or movement away from capitalism, Marxism is over as a project of historical transformation. First, Marx s account of the forced extraction of surplus labor remains true. It constitutes an indictment of the process of capital accumulation because defensesof capitalism s right to profit based on productive contribution are weak. If generalized, the current cooperativemovement, well advanced in many nations, can displace capitalism and thus counts as the movement Aronson challenges Marxists to point to. Since Marxists are unable to point to a social class or a movement embodying change away from capitalism, Ronald Aronson, still a Marxist, concludes Marxism is over at least as a project of historical transformation. (5) He opposes capitalism but seeks change in movements like feminism and anti racism, especially as informed by postmodernism. Both of these proclamations of Marxism s demise focus on Marx s political strategy for moving toward socialism. Yet Marx s enduring pertinence lies instead in his indictment of capitalism. Capitalism is fully alive. Over the past twenty years the United States particularly merits Marx s indictment for its aggravations of class divisions. As the rich get richer and the poor poorer, we are all pitted against each other, millions in the third world are killed each year by humanly reproduced poverty, environmental despoilation proceeds out of control, and handy advantages of race, gender or nationality are used to exclude our neighbors. Thus, since capitalism isn t dead, neither is the heart of Marxism. I find two errors in Aronson s views: first, there are large anti capitalist movements afoot meriting Marxists support. Secondly, socialists work not for Marxism, which is a theory, but for socialism, which is a future non capitalist state of affairs. (6) What is

He was able to take the back story of a crazed child rapist and produce a creation from his imagination and bring it into real life. It not only was the character itself dark and twisted but the anatomy of him was just unbelievable. Suddenly, pacing by the water, he was overcome with astonishment. He found himself understanding the wearisomeness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of one s waking life was spent watching one s feet. IMDB summarizes the plot with, Pit violinist Claudin hopelessly loves rising operatic soprano Christine Dubois (as do baritone Anatole and police inspector Raoul) and secretly aids her career (Phantom of the Opera (1943)). But Claudin loses both his touch and his job, murders a rascally music publisher in a fit of madness, and has his face etched with acid. Soon, mysterious crimes plague the Paris Opera House, blamed on a legendary phantom whom none can find in the mazes and catacombs. Eddy has finally found his role. He is no phantom in this one; he is very much in solid evidence, and his lungs are working as strongly and as loudly as they have ever worked before. Indeed, you might almost think the picture was made just so he might sing. And that is the principal reason why this remake of the old Lon Chaney film is bereft of much of the terror and macabre quality of the original. The feeling of this version was that the Phantom was an afterthought. The beginning of the film is a musical that serves to set up the Phantom, or Erique Claudin, storyline. You see the conductor having issues directing a violinist. The violinist end up being fired and the rest of the story unfolds. The differences between this version and the version of 1925 are numerous. 1943 the Phantom is created when disfigured by a chemical burn and must hide after committing murder, whereas in 1925 the masked man has lived under the opera house for years and was born disfigured. The 1943 version also felt like they were trying too hard to convey the love interest and to have Christine at the center of a very off foursome not only was she the love interest of Anatole Garron and Raoul Daubert, she was also the love interest of the Phantom.

Heraclitus is best known for his theories that things are constantly changing, the unity of opposites, and that fire is the basic material of the world. The Milesians consist of three philosophers: Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes. First there is Thales, who was a pre Socratic Greek philosopher born in 624 BC. This is due to the fact that art is a term that has existed for thousands of years and thus its meaning and lexicography has changed drastically over the years based on endless factors. Art started off being defined as a craft, measured by the technical prowess of the artist and used as tool in the retelling of history or for religious practices and doctrine. From there, it evolved into a practice of replication, attempting to create the most realistic of images, particularly around the time of the renaissance, with the invention of linear perspective and a growing understanding of human anatomy based on dissection. In the renaissance, the more technically capable an artist is in recreating life, the more talented he is seen to be. However, movements like impressionism, a reaction to the invention of photography, now aimed for, not realism, but the capturing of the impression of the image, using colour and broad brushstrokes, giving pieces an unfinished look. Symbolism and expressionism aimed for a less literal view of the world. In reaction to freud s interpretation of dreams, surrealism aimed to explore the creative potential of the human psyche, while the modernist movement resulted in art that can be as simple as painting squares on a canvas or signing your name on a urinal. • 41. Chemical Weapons And Nuclear Weapons Chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons have changed the way that people look at wars forever. Since their implementation into the battlefield, it has been realized that these taboo weapons are ones to be feared. Responsible for an extravagant amount of deaths over the past eighty years, chemical, biological, and nuclear threats are not to take lightly. A nuclear weaponis an explosive device designed to derive its destructive explosion via nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, or a combination of the two processes . The implementation of nuclear weapons was a Figure 1) serious game changer, and gave the upper hand to the more technologically advanced countries because of the scientific efforts that go into developing these weapons, making the possession of nuclear weapons a more apt problem for nations themselves, rather than non state actors, such as terrorist groups. As shown in Figure 1, there has been a general steady decrease of the amount of nuclear weapons held by the United States. This is where chemical and biological weapons differ from nuclear weapons. Over the past years, chemical and biological weapons have seen more action, and this can be attested to the significant difference in developing these weapons. Because chemical and biological weapons are so easily acquired, it is more likely to see them being used by terrorist groups rather than nations themselves. Because of the potential threats and easy obtainment of biological weapons, they are potentially the
  • 42. Essay Qin Dynasty Within the years of 221 206 BCE, the Qin Dynasty rose as a superpower. During this time period, the Warring States Era, Chinese civilization was impacted tremendously in almost every aspect. These hallmarks in history vary from the spreading of Legalism to the birth of the Great Wall of China. Through these countless contributions, the Qin Dynasty was able to revolutionize the Chinese civilization in such a short period of time. After unifying the Chinese empire, Qin Shi Huangdi made several reforms that enhanced Chinese society. Unification of the empire was crucial because it marked the rising of Qin Shi Huangdi(leader of Qin Dynasty) and how he established 40 prefectures, or states (Perkins OL). Soon after extending the empire, Shi... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, literature was discouraged under Legalism because they were believed as poisons to the mind. The Legalists believed this way because not all the information in books contains the truth. Agriculture and war were promoted on the other hand, because it would carve a rich and powerful empire (Walker 39). Many argue that the harshness of Legalism caused the downfall of the Qin Dynasty. However, it was one of the main reasons by the Qin Dynasty stood as the strongest among the Chinese states and possibly in the world. The reason why is because harsh punishments encouraged good conduct and discipline. When this is brought upon, there will be more room to contribute to society and there will be fewer worries about crimes being committed. In addition, the conduct and discipline was a plus for the military. By doing what they are told, the military can execute their job perfectly. All in all, Legalism flourished the Qin Dynasty; it did not cause it to go downhill. One of the wonders of the world today is the Great Wall of China which was inspired by none other than the Qin Dynasty. Other dynasties put in dedication to having the Great Wall constructed but the Qin Dynasty played a significant role in coming up with the idea for it. The Great Wall of China would benefit China greatly because it would serve as defense against nomadic tribes. Apart from being protected by nomadic tribes, the Great Wall would be a benefit for China s forever. Other countries

Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Essay One can discover the common connection of how similar the author s life is to their pieces of writing by finding the details in their writing that resemblance their life events. The writer of Rules of the Game , Amy Tan, was stirred by her own experiences and past to write this story. • 44. Tijuana Summary Questions Derived from Moral Landscaping Ian Bogost investigated how games could teach particular procedures and practical systems to players. But Julian Dibbel s investigation in Tijuana revealed how players could transform procedures into self serving, manipulative machines. Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost or Epistemic Games for that matter hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between Epistemic Games transferring players power into solutions to real life problems and Blacksnow transferring power into real life profit? Simply stated, it is the players motivation. More complexly stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing players into a work based system of economic growth. Candy Crush transfers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And are these games really just simulations of real life? This would make sense since games now have real life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one s definition of each term. If the difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the still in development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill automatically turn a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low stakes simulation of its real life counterparts. Pit, then, is a non digital, non profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor behind why games are made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire for profit. The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit. Whether other companies design games for other uses to teach or to problem solve is outside the scope of what the industry (not so much the indie developers) prides itself on. King wants to make money for its product; that is common sense. Whether the company makes money on the front
