Poetry Analysis Essay Sample
Crafting a poetry analysis essay can be a challenging endeavor that demands a combination of
literary insight, analytical skills, and effective communication. Delving into the intricacies of a
poem requires a keen eye for detail, as well as the ability to unravel layers of meaning embedded
in the verses.
The difficulty lies not only in comprehending the surface-level themes but also in deciphering
the subtle nuances, metaphors, and poetic devices employed by the poet. Analyzing the
structure, rhythm, and rhyme scheme adds another layer of complexity, demanding a grasp of
technical elements that contribute to the overall aesthetic of the poem.
Furthermore, a successful poetry analysis essay necessitates a deep understanding of the cultural
and historical context in which the poem was written. Unraveling the poet's intentions and the
socio-political backdrop that influenced the work is crucial for providing a comprehensive
interpretation.
Expressing these insights in a coherent and well-structured essay requires proficiency in academic
writing. Balancing the analytical depth with clarity and conciseness is essential, ensuring that the
essay effectively conveys the reader through the labyrinth of poetic elements without becoming
overly convoluted.
Assembling a cohesive thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the analysis and guides
the reader throughout the essay is a crucial aspect of the writing process. Transitioning smoothly
between different aspects of the poem while maintaining a logical flow can be a daunting task,
especially for those new to literary analysis.
Despite the challenges, writing a poetry analysis essay can also be a rewarding experience. It
allows the writer to explore the beauty and complexity of language, offering a chance to
appreciate the artistry behind every carefully chosen word.
In conclusion, tackling a poetry analysis essay demands a fusion of literary appreciation, critical
thinking, and effective communication skills. It is an endeavor that requires patience, dedication,
and a willingness to delve into the depths of poetic expression. However, for those seeking
assistance or looking to explore a myriad of essay topics, there are resources available where

Pros And Cons Of High School Uniforms
I went to private school for a very long time, and we always wore uniforms. Then in
third grade, I switched to a public school, so I was so excited to wear what I
wanted on the first day. I remember I chose this orange hoodie with a skirt, and it s
so funny when I think about it now because my style really hasn t changed that
much. (Keke Palmer). Fashion is an extension of people. They define who people
are and how they want people to see them. Private school, La Salle Catholic College
Preparatory High Schools (LSCCP) dress codes are limiting students to show their
true selves and mold the students into well behaved and well dressed students to
create a classy and studious environment; especially the female students. There are
significantly more rules that are set towards girls than to boys. Although, public
school, Mt. Hood Community College s (MHCC) dress codes are allowing their
students to dress how they would like without harsh and specific rules as they
dress themselves everyday. Therefore, LSCCP High School s dress code is more
sexist compared to MHCC s dress code. Private high schools are known to be strict
and have a high success rate after graduation. One of the factors of creating a harsh
environment is having strict rules with limitations of what attending student may and
may not wear. Many private high schools require uniforms for their students to wear,
while others allow casual dressing, but with restrictions. At LSCCP High School, they
do not require

CHARACTER RELATIONSHIP IN INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE
Vampires are the creatures that drink human blood for survive, and they do not

.) Also, the story shows the interesting relationship between Louis and other
characters such as Lestat, Claudia, and the vampires in Theatre des Vampires.
Claudia is the most important character in Interview With A Vampire because she is
the one who makes Louis feel guilty. Claudia becomes a vampire when she was five

However, he changed after the burning on Theatre des Vampires, he becomes
strange and weak in front of Louis. It is hard to see Lestat as a villain. Even though
Lestat kills Claudia for the revenge, he does not try to kill or destroy Louis, but
wants him to become an Lestat s assistance.
The boy in Interview With A Vampire cannot be forgotten because he is a human
who talks with a vampire, Louis. There is not many information about the boy, but
he makes the interview with vampire, and catches important information from the
story such as Louis name and vampire s ability. However, it is strange that he wants
to be a vampire at the end of the story because Louis story ends with no happy
ending and does not encourage people to become a vampire. Why the boy wants to
become Vampire?
Interview With A Vampire brings the story well with the relationships between Louis
and characters. Louis gets guilty feeling from Claudia, has problem with Lestat and
the vampires in Theatre des Vampires, and shows his feeling and story in the
conversation with the boy. It is interesting that how vampire can be seen as human

My Cultural Backgrounds
Diversity is a very significant part of my life, so to hear that Wellesley celebrates
women of all different cultural backgrounds is one the biggest attractions that
Wellesley has to offer for me. As a woman who comes from a family that consists
two different languages and multiple minority races, it is often hard for me to feel
represented and included, let alone celebrated. For many people, when they hear the
word diversity they envision only a group of minorities. For myself, diversity is not
just about including those with brown skin, it is about the exchange of all cultures
and ideas. From political views, to language, to food, to pop culture, the exchange of
these ideas makes for a diverse community and it is clear to me that Wellesley
represents this idea of sharing experiences. I much as I love when I see faces that

The experience of learning about the backgrounds of my closest friends from the

Wellesley. Also, it is an amazing feeling when someone else wants to learn about
my own background and upbringing. It makes me feel significant, interesting, and
loved to know that my stories are also being told and heard. Every time I met
someone who was part of the Wellesley alumnae, student body, or faculty I either
saw myself in them and their stories or I was intrigued by how different their
journey to Wellesley was from any experience that I have ever had. Because I am a
mix of different cultures I find that I am most comfortable within a diverse setting.
Being immersed in different ideas is what I grew up with around me; so, with
Wellesley being a place that can offer me this kind of diversity, is it very easy to see

The Technological Advancement Of The White Cane
Canes have been in existence for a very long time but they were initially know as
sticks, Although there have been debate surrounding where and when the white
cane was initially developed by it is speculated that it was by a British
photographer named James Biggs in 1921 after losing his sight due to an accident
he had from working in a very dark room. My research essay is going to be focused
on the smart canes looking at innovation, affordability adaptability, good fit and
comparing the transition of the classic white canes into the modern day smart canes.

The increasing number of visually impaired has led to the need for inventors to
create a better technology that assist people to live a more comfortable life.
Technology has grown over the years and taking various methods to improve things

them more expensive thereby restrict the use to only people who can afford them.
The need to use a smart cane to enhance safety is very important although, this can
be seen as the medical model of health but it ensures the safety of the individual,
which should be every nation goal; ensuring safety for every citizen regardless of
their status or social economic status.
Majority of visually impaired individuals are dependent on someone to help them
with their daily activity so the need to create a better and safer mobility system is
crucial. The constant fear of colliding with obstacles prevents majority of visually
impaired from step out of their comfort zone. The need to invent a better walking
cane brought about the creation of smart canes with vibrators, sensors and a greater
obstacle detection range. It also comes with a beeper but the vibration is more
effective as even those who are blind and deaf can also use the device. The

explain why and how these stories are true. O Brien come up with his own
guidelines for what a true war story should contain for it to be true if it contains
other things that what he mentions it is not true even if it happened. According to
O Brien a true war story is never moral (Brien 1), does not instruct, nor encourage

Theme Of Gnomeo And Juliet And The West Side Story
In the novel West Side Story, by Arthur Laurents, we see a forbidden love. This
forbidden love consists of Tony (an ex jet) and Maria (the sister to the leader of the
sharks). This love story is doomed from the beginning as Tony and Maria come for
two completely ethnic backgrounds that can not stand each other. This story of
romance would ultimately end as tragically as we would all suspect. Riff (Tony s
best friend) is killed by a stab wound to the chest, Bernardo (Maria s brother) is
killed by Tony and Tony ultimately meets his fate when a bullet strikes him in the
back. There has been many modern stories similar to the one above but the movie
Gnomeo and Juliet from 2013 is the best comparison to the novel. As in the West Side

This is due to the target audience of the two stories. The noval West Side Story
takes place on the westside of Manhattan, where the movie Gnomeo and Juliet takes
place in the backyard of two neighbors. These settings differ so much in order for
the targeted audiences to relate to the storys. Since the West Side story is meant for
a more mature audience, Laurents sets his novel in manhattan, making the story as
life like as possible. The backyard setting of Gnomeo and Juliet allows for the young
target audience to easily relate to the movie, while keeping ideas simple for easy
understanding.
Lastly, the plot of the two stories are greatly different. This again is also in order for
the target audiences to better understand. The plot of the West Side Story is much
more complex than that of the Gnomeo and Juliet, In the plot of the West Side
Story we see death, Violence and loveloss. These are all components that make a a
novel appealing to a more mature audience. These are ideas that are advanced
beyond what most children can comprehend but this is also the same thing that
makes the novel so effective to carrying a message to a older audience.
The movie Gnomeo and Juliet uses a plot line that is far more simple to follow. The
movie s plot line included ideals such as, love and forgiveness. These are two ideas
that a young audience are able to comprehend. Even though these stories have
different plot lines and different complexities. They both deliver a message that is

Kidney Stones
Has your father ever had gout? If he has, he probably has also had kidney stones or
Nephrolithiasis. Although gout may cause kidney stones, they do not cause the most
common form of kidney stones, that title belongs to hypercalciuria. Hypercalciuria
can form types of kidney stones like calcium oxalate, or calcium phosphate. Gout
causes uric acid based kidneystones. Other forms of kidney stones are cysteine and
struvite stones which are caused by various reasons. Struvite stones are caused by
kidney infection and cystine stones are due to a common disorder. The disorder
called cystinuria is the defect in transporting amino acids and causes too much
cystine is in the urine. The more common types of kidney stones involve calcium.
Hyperparathyroidism is when the gland over produces its hormone, parathyroid
hormone (PTH), that will increase the amount of calcium in the blood. However,
just calcium in the blood or in the urine will not cause kidney stones, they need
oxalates or phosphates and must form in the kidneys. The reason I specify the
kidneys is that if you consume calcium and oxalate together and they form in the
stomach. They will be dissolved and are less likely to form stones. People with too
much vitamin C, probably through a supplement, will have oxalate rich urine.... Show

My Love Of Dance
As a child I was very active. Participating in gymnastics, dance, soccer, and
volleyball. This was a very enjoyable time in my life. School was not very difficult
considering I was only in grade school. My greatest passion was dance. At this point
in my life I had been dancing for six years. Dancing was something I took pride in.
Getting the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people excited me.
This love of dance started when I was three. My mother had brought me to the Ozark
Dance Academy. I can remember exactly how i felt. Remind you I was roughly three
foot and everyone had already formed partners. I couldn t even see over the bar. We
all know that the short quiet one is always left alone. My teacher Mrs. Julie had
grabbed my hand, walked me to the middle of the floor, and whispered into my ear
dance like you are the only one here. The music clicked on, heart pounding in my
ears, I started to dance. I feel like everyone was slightly impressed. Moving to the
music with all of this passion made me feel like I was dancing on air. All of my
nerves went away. Later that day after my class had ended Mrs. Julie walked me over
to my mom and said something I will never forget. Why don t we put her into basic
point? I Grace Van Helden, only being three was about to be in a class with five and
six year olds. Boy was i smiling.
Being in this environment made me happy. Everyone no matter their background
could come and experience the joy of dancing. Point was
To what extent are the ‘self’ and
‘identity’...
To what extent are the self and identity separate from society? The concept of self
and identity has become increasingly important in social science in recent years.
There are many competing concepts about them. The term identity can be basically
understood as how we understand ourselves. It generally entails how to category
people into groups by differentiate them according to their characteristics. This
essay will focus on the correlations of self and identity, and society. It will stress on
if self and identity are separate from society with scholars support, particular on

father of theoretical thinking concerned with the self and identity. There are two...

me is the social side of self as known from external environment. I is to know
through his own subjective consciousness of self. However, only after we have the
objective, social and impersonal sense of self the Me, we can then have the
subjective, personal and intimate sense of self the I (Ransome, 2010). Thus, the self
is not totally made of social aspect which receives information about them from
society. Individuals have their own consciousness arising from themselves, although
it needs to fellow after the arising of I. Another important sociologist need to
mention here is Goffman. He addressed individuals daily life as the metaphor of the
drama. For Goffman, social life is a series of dramatic performances. The actor who
is performing, and the other co performers who Goffman refers to as members of the
team (Ransome, 2010). The audiences are who witness the performance. Goffman
focused on how the self is shaped by the dramatic interactions between social actors
and their audiences (Ritzer and Goodman, 2006). When an individual is interacting
with others, there are according to Goffman two impressions: the one individual
gives and the one they give off (Goffman, 1990). An impression is given through
speaking, and this is information that individuals want to give (Goffman, 1990).
Another impression which is given off is through non verbal communication. For
Goffman, it is used to make the participants accept a desired
Crooks, Curley s Wife, And Lennie
Crooks, Curley s wife, and Lennie in Of Mice and Men can be an irritation to most

the direction that they chose and who they are to other people, it is hard for them.
There are too many setbacks and obstacles during this time that it made it hard for

other people and to themselves. These three people get called names. They are or

Crooks is called names by reasons of his race. He is treated horrendously by people
of the opposite race. He wants to be alone and does not want to bother anyone on the

The Common Relations Of Slavery And The Civil War Essay
The common relations of slavery are between slavery and the Civil War. Most
would argue that slavery ended in 1865. With this standpoint, we often brush off or
neglect to further investigate slavery in its most modern forms. Over the course of
history, there are few times we can truly say a social problem was completely solved.
Starvation still exists, as does poverty, racism, war, segregation, injustice within
government systems, and yes, even slavery. Human traffickingis modern day slavery,
and it exists everywhere with two different categories: sex exploitation and labor
exploitation. Humantrafficking is not new, but what is new is the volume of
trafficking taking place, and how little we know about it. How can a problem, so
monstrous and so widespread continue with most society being unaware of its
existence? The 1800 s, and even years prior, were a period of unfathomable abuse
towards people considered less than. The 21st century is also a period of
unfathomable abuse towards people considered commodities. Now the common
place relation between slavery and the civil war must be over, because the monster
of modern day slavery has awoken. Human trafficking has key components and facts,
such as the staggering numbers of victims. The official definition of human
trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced
labor or commercial sexual exploitation (Dictionary.com). Per the United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), trafficking

Ducati
By the end of 2000, Federico Minoli had won his battle. Over the past five years, the
turnaround i artist as Forbes magazine dubbed him had transformed a company on the
verge of bankruptcy into one of the most profitable motorcycle manufacturers in the
world; a mechanical concern into a global brand; a fast motorcycle into a symbol of
Italian design and tradition, extreme performance, and technical excellence. Under
Minoli, Ducati had enjoyed explosive growth and profitability. Revenues had
quadrupled since 1996; EBITDA had grown from 33.4 million Euros in 1997 to
around 60.0 million Euros in 2000; the market share had gone from 5.1% in the sport

In 1997, BMW introduced its own interpretation of a cruiser, which enjoyed a
stunning commercial success. Touring bikes were larger motorcycles equipped for
longer rides and greater comfort. Within this segment, the three largest players were
BMW, Harley Davidson, and Honda. Sport bikes had lighter frames, a more forward
seated position, and emphasized speed, acceleration, and minimal comfort. This
niche, which Ducati identified as its relevant market (see Exhibit 3), could be
further disaggregated into four sub segments: hyper sport (extreme performance,
closely derived from the racing world), super sport (high performance, good
handling and low weight), naked (good performance and urban riding) and sport
touring (speed and handling, married with comfort for longer rides). Japanese
companies dominated this niche, while European firms such as Ducati, BMW, and
Triumph also vied for market share. Harley Davidson entered the sport bike market
by acquiring Buell Motorcycles in 1998. This segment was Ducati s reference market.
Customers
A wide variety of individuals, with equally different tastes, bought and rode
motorcycles (Exhibit 4). Knee down, or racing aficionados, sought extreme
performance and functionality (e.g., reliability and technical excellence). Easy riders
lay at the other extreme, and associated the motorcycle with a particular lifestyle.

Prior to this intellectual property was addressed in the American Constitution stating
that inventors would have exclusive rights to their discoveries. The Patent Act made
patents last for fourteen years and gave inventors exclusive rights to their invention.
There was no possibility of extending this time. Many inventors argued that this was
unsatisfactory and that since inventions could take many years to initially be
commercialized they did not have much time to make use of their patent. Another
key point in the act was that foreigners were not allowed to apply for patents. The
Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, and the Attorney General were the only
three people initially given power to approve or reject patents. Patents were examined
by these three to ensure applications met the given criteria but this process was
criticized as taking an unreasonable amount of time to complete. It could take months
before a patent was sufficiently examined.
2.3 Patent Reform
There have been a multitude of times in history where patent laws have been either
updated or thrown out. The Patent Acts of 1793 and 1837 are two such cases. These
acts reformed how patents were processed, changed what the criteria for patents were,
and organized how patents were filed. In 1849 the Department of the Interior became
responsible for managing patents. The Patent Act
Role Of Stephen King s Stories
The Role of Stephen King s Stories in Modern American Literature Stephen King
is one of the most prolific writers of this century. He has written a number of short
stories and novels many of which have been turned into movies. One of the
reasons that King s works are popular with readers is due to the fact that his stories
give the reader something outside of the formulaic formula that many books are
inclined to follow or endings that are predictable and derivative. King also made
his foray into horror in the 1970 s when the genre was kind of lackluster. King
offered the reader something different in that he did not shy away from the gore,
gratuitous violence or cheap shocks. One of the reasons that King s works have so
much power when it comes to the imagination is because he himself is a horror
aficionado, who writes according to his worldview. Readers can also see the
influence that Classic literature has had on the works of King. Just as the works
of the Ancient Greeks and later Shakespeare focused on certain themes, such as
man versus nature, good versus evil or love versus hate, so do the works of King.
However, in his works King tends to twist the traditional plot of Shakespeare and
the Classic by having his characters go from hero to villain or showing the loss of
man s honor or humanity in the wake of horror. One of the things seen often times
in his writing is the alienation of both the individual and of society. Publication of

Taking a Look Back at Smallville
The series Smallville takes place is a small farm town of the same name. Twelve
years before the show begins the town was affected by a meteor shower. The
meteors brought the main character, Clark, to planet Earth; he was found by an older
couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, who weren t able to have children. Clark is no
ordinary boy though, he has the powers of Superman; the super strength, and fast
speed. Throughout the show we see him wear all three of Superman colors red,
yellow, and blue. The television takes the audience twelve years after the meteor
shower struck Smallville and shows how the town is still being affected by red and
green kryptonite. The series Buffy the Vampire Slayertakes place in a small town
Sunnydale, which is above the hellmouth. Buffy who is the main character, became
a vampire slayer when she turned fifteen. She has the duties to protect her town, and
save the world from vampires, and demons taking over. Her parents are divorced,
she is taken care of by her mother and her watcher Giles.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
You may have heard that everything is bigger in Texas. and if you really want to
experience how everything is bigger, you go to the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo (HLSR). The HLSR, or Houston Rodeo as it is referred to by Houstonians,
is the largest event of its kind in the world and has been in session since 1932. In
2013, The HLSR had more people in attendance (approx 2.6 million) at the Rodeo
than the entire population of the city of Houston (approx 2.1 million), which
happens to be the 4th largest city in the United States as well as the most populated
city in the state of Texas. The HLSR is held at Reliant Parkfor three weeks during
March, and since parking is always a hassle, Reliant Park also happens to have one of
the largest parking lots available as well.
After arriving in Reliant Park and taking an hour to find a parking spot, nothing
seems amiss. Hell, at this point, all you see is signs for Rodeo Houston pointing
this way and that way ; it s honestly a little overbearing at first. The HLSR consists
of many events going on simultaneously: the Rodeo, Livestock shows, Concerts, a
BBQ contest, and even a carnival. Upon entering one of the many buildings in
Reliant Park, however, the atmosphere changes completely according to where you
go. The people, smells, and even noises are all different. Being a Texan, though, I
always started at the BBQ contest.

The Pros And Cons Of Re-Thinking Museums
1.2.Re thinking Museums
The second part of chapter one discusses the ways digitization is changing the face of
museums and archives, in terms of the ways they curate device collections. This
unprecedented and continuous shift has left many cultural institutions struggling to
adapt and are forcing them to rethink how to maintain their unique qualities while at

According to Suzane Keene (2004), the essence of the traditional museum as
classifier, authoritative holder and producer of knowledge and as source of the right
interpretation and view of society through place based exhibitions is a building (p. 3).
By contrast, the museum of the future is more of a process or an experience, moving
out into the spaces of the communities it serves. Therefore, a fundamental difference
between the traditional museum and the museum of the 21st century is the type of
space used to preserve and present cultural heritage and the modes of access and
availability this space offers. Keene points out to another difference, which has to do
with what is central to museums and archives the object. As the importance of the
meaning of the object and its past grows, so does the need to collect and present the
intangible, as well as the tangible. The museum of the future sharpens its focus on
collecting and exhibiting knowledge, rather than simply the object. Furthermore, with
the perspective of new technologies, the process of digitization intensely defines the
make up of the museum of the future. Keene argues that, as inventories and
catalogues of collections are increasingly digitized, so they must become available as
a single resource, together with related information provided by libraries, archives,
sites and monuments (p. 4). Additionally, the

PURPOSE:
This memorandum analyses the contractual dealings between our client, Sandy, and
Mark to determine whether equitable and proprietary estoppel is applicable in this
case, and whether the promise Mark made to Sandy in regards to subdividing his land
must be upheld.
SUMMARY:
QUESTION 1A) It will be argued that estoppel is definitely applicable in this case as
no contract was formally created by the two parties due to the lack of a formal written
agreement , the intention to create legal relations and the absence of sufficient
consideration therefore what was communicated between the two parties is ... Show

Factors present that support this notion are the lack of a formal written agreement,
the intention to create legal relations wasn t present, and insufficient consideration.
Mark had promised to subdivide his land and transfer the ownership of the cottage
you were living in as a tenant to your name, and in effect encouraged you to
disregard seeking a settlement with Pat as well as substantially improve his cottage.
This thus encouraged an induced assumption to be made which you relied upon.
Mark did not do enough to prevent your impending detriment from occurring
regardless of his initial knowledge and intention made. We will therefore use these
factors to our advantage and base the cause of action and arguments made on these.
As your lawyer, my main concern is to seek relief in the form of obtaining the
cottage property for you rather than monetary damages as that has been established to
be of your main concern as substantial improvements were made to the cottage using
your own money as well as it being the initial agreement between Mark and

Practice doing things without demanding recognition. Your ego will scream out at
you to let people know that it was YOU who donated or did something great, but if
you hold back and let yourself experience doing something good without

without the need for anyone else to know, and that is the ultimate pat on the back
from yourself. 9. Accept Failures And Rejection As An Important Part Of Life
Your self esteem can take hit after hit if you don t accept that failures and rejection
are an important part of life. If you view them as negative things, then you are
going to feel bad about yourself and beat yourself up when they happen. But, if
you see them as valuable tools for helping you get the life you want, then you will
accept them and use them to improve your life and become someone better and
stronger. Always remember that failure and rejection happen to teach you
something. They help you see your weaknesses and build your strengths. They
help you realize that you are capable of moving forward despite obstacles and
setbacks in life. They help you make better decisions about your life and the people
in it. They are essential to your life and without them you would never really get to

Vouchers and School Choice Now! Essay
School Choice Now!
This is America the Free, the leader of the free world. I have choice in many
aspects of my life. For one of the most important concerns I have the education of
my children my choices are limited. The government s rigid control over public
education choice has got to stop. While it is true I can send my child to a private
school, I must incur costs above and beyond what I already provide to society for
public education through taxes. I can afford this; many people cannot. Those people
have no choice.
Is choice desirable? Yes. As expressed by the Constitution of the United States, our
capitalistic society certainly believes so. Teachers believe so. Teachers in public

My beliefs of what schools must do to be successful fall with the reinvention
approach described by Finn and Ravitch (1995). Finn and Ravitch detail the
reinvention paradigm with the following tenants:
* decentralized control,
* entrepreneurial management, and
* grassroots initiatives.
All these tenants fall within a framework of publicly defined standards and
accountability. These standards must be both comprehensive and minimal a difficult
but not impossible conundrum to address.
This approach would truly give us the diversity Americans are so proud of and
continually demand. On top of the Finn and Ravitch framework I would add
accessibility for all students to the school of choice. Public schools must be open to
the public, financed by the public, and educationally and fiscally accountable to the
public.
I would like to see private educational institutions continue to thrive. They are a
necessary pressure relief valve for certain portions of our society. Private schools
could continue as they have, or, if they wanted access to public funds, they would
have to agree to the mandates the public would impose on them.
I believe in parental choice in public education, but choice in and of itself is not
enough. All parents regardless of socio economic status must be able to access the
school of their choice. They must have the financial capability to send their
The Biological Processes Of Dairy Cattle Essay
In today s world, many infants are allergic to certain proteins naturally present in
cow s milk. Due to the huge volume of milk products consumed by the human race,
there is a need to get rid of this allergy causing protein and eliminate this allergic
reaction. AgResearch has investigated ways to manipulate the genetic material in
dairy cattle by using the process of GeneKnockdown , with the aim to create a cow
which produces milk which doesn t contain the proteinresponsible for the allergic
reactions, the Beta lacto globulin protein or BLG . Scientists have been successful
in creating Daisy the Cow, who is a cloned calf genetically modified to produce
milk which does not contain the BLG protein. I will be discussing the biological
processes behind the cloning of Daisy the cow, and the decisions made by scientists
to use methods for genetically modifying the cow s genes from whom Daisy was
cloned, for the benefit of humans.
There are specific reasons AgResearch used processes like Gene Knockdown and
cloning by Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer SCT to get the result they wanted. The
stakes are high to ensure the cloned cow Daisy survives and is healthy. Therefore
AgResearch needed to choose procedures which were most likely to yield
successful results. The whole project and process cost around 50 million dollars to
produce one cow, and with historical success rates very low they could potentially
lose funding and be shut down if the project didn t produce any successful
Tips On Choosing A Wordpress Theme
Tips on Choosing a WordPress Theme Choose Your Layout
When you sit down to construct your first WordPress website or blog you have a
very big decision to make immediately, and that s choosing a theme. This is probably
the first thing you will do after you install the software, and its major because your
theme, or layout, is the first thing your readers will see. Your theme represents you,
and your goal is to make it as appealing as possible.
People will make an instant judgement as to the quality and value of your website
as soon as they land on your home page. Your header image should relay the
message and purpose of your website. Your navigation bar should be user intuitive,
and the color scheme should be soft and warm so you don t scare people off.
All of this is made easy if you have chosen the best possible theme for your product
or service. Lets learn a little about themes and then take a look at some tips on
choosing your best possible WordPress theme.
Look And Feel
Keep in mind that themes are simply the look , and to some degree, feel of your
website. Your theme is like the outside of your house; what people see first. It can
have nice window dressing, pretty colors, fancy decorative brick and an overall
pleasant appeal. If people like what they see they will enter, or (click) around and
stay for a visit. This is what you want to keep your visitors in the house. And, it all
starts by having the right theme.
So start with an appealing theme and combine
The Thematic Elements Of William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Nobility or shame
The thematic elements found throughout many of William Shakespeare s plays are
numerous. Such themes further develop the plot of the story and help explain a
universal purpose the story has. Imagination seeps through every crevice in the reader
s mind as to what a theme can be alluding to. Throughout many of Shakespeare s
written works, it can be noted that death, in particular suicide, is a relevant and
ongoing theme that Shakespeare gives way to. A prime example is that of the well
known tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare does not stop at the tragedy of the
star crossed lovers, but further goes on to write several more tragedies that deal with
suicide such as: Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet. The ... Show more

During the rise of the Renaissance era, the motto death before dishonor was
implanted in many courtly ideals. Many chose to die than to have dishonor upon
their name. It would be a burden that they would live with for the rest of their lives if
their name was put to shame. Suicide was given the bad shoulder during this time,
but many writers shined a light on it that further enhanced a work of literature.
Shakespeare was one of the many writers that shined a light within the theme of
suicide. Suicide in his works further enhanced the development of the story. This is
because suicide is a recurring theme that gives way to understand the cultural impact
that comes with being a mortal. Shakespeare opens the window to this developing
theme that is shunned upon by society. In order to understand why suicide is a key
theme that further develops a story, one has to understand the social repercussions
that suicide holds during that time. In Shakespeare s Hamlet it can be noted that even
though Hamlet did not go through with contemplated suicide, he still thought about
whether he should go through the difficulties of life and keep on suffering. For
instance, Shakespeare writes and by opposing end them (page.127, line 68). By
opposing the Christian moral views, he knows and values, Hamlet knows that
suicide will end all his troubles and he will be at peace. Hamlet decides not to
partake in such action. This further
What Is Inverse Spatial Conservation Prioritization
The use of inverse spatial conservation prioritization is used to avoid biological
diversity loss outside of protected areas, it is used to identify areas that have the
highest economic value but also the lowest ecological value. The reason why we are
looking for alternative ways to protect unprotected areas is because there are not
enough resources to protect entire landscapes and not every area that has ecological
value can be protected. We cannot protect all areas and have none for humans to
harvest resources. Therefore, the implementation of inverse spatial design to identify
the areas that are most suitable for the monetary development while also limiting the

SPC is used to alleviate the trade offs between economic losses and economic gains
to increases the conservation success by maximizing the cost effectiveness that is
needed for conservation by using as less area as needed for ecological targets. One
important aspect of the conservation outside of the protected areas is to avoid the
negative ecological and environmental effects of the economic development projects.
What inverse spatial conservation prioritization does is identify the areas that have
the lowest ecological value for economic development. In inverse spatial
conservation, we have an inverse minimum and an inverse maximum. In the inverse
minimum, each ecological area is defined by a giving it certain thresholds in the
losses it can have, and it identifies the areas that have the greatest economic potential
without having a great ecological loss. The objective of the inverse maximum is to
provide the economic benefits that were stated without losing much ecological

He used more than one frame. He used an outcome frame when stating his

What do you project the outcome of the first exchange to be?
Because resources are fixed and limited, both used distributive bargaining strategies
and tactics. Both appear to be competing with each other. I project a win lose for
Len. Marilyn tried to get Len to reduce his resistance point by reminding him that
they had made an agreement, and that she was expecting him to commit to it. Her
strategy was shortsighted because she didn t anticipate the frame they would be
using, or the frame Len would be using. Len elected to reframe his position on the
basis of power, using Joe as leverage, which was done intentionally, since Marilyn s
challenges seemed to fuel his creativity.

Yes. Marilyn used an active engagement strategy that persuaded Len to reveal his
target and resistance points. She got Len to see that their goals are not mutually

She used key steps in the integrative negotiation process to shift the tone and focus of

Herpes Simplex 1 Symptoms Natural Treatment
There is a old misconception Herpes Simplex 1 only infects above the belt by
manifesting as cold sores. Herpes Type 2 was previously considered below the belt
and caused genital lesions. However, the medical profession has found oral genital
contact can spread either, so that types of herpes have become virtually insignificant.
Let s define herpes. It is very contagious. It is transmitted by bodily fluids. Proper
hand washing precautions should be taken to keep the virus from a cold sore from
spreading to the genitals. The first time herpes symptoms appear is called the primary
occurrence and it worse than recurring outbreaks.
Symptoms generally occur within 4 7 days after contact. Initial symptoms are
burning, chronic itch or tingling. In a couple of days, pimply sores pop up on reddish
skin. Later, the pimples metamorphose into agonizing blisters.
When the blisters burst, they secrete blood and yellowish pus. Approximately a week
after the first symptoms, scabs form, which signals healing has begun.
While it is rare, it is possible for Herpes to spread to the eyes. This requires the
speedy attention of a medical professional.
A person can be infected and not know it. Symptoms may not show for some time
following contact, yet the person can still be contagious. This is because viral
shedding occurs during the tingling stage.
Of course, people who have active lesions shed the virus and are contagious.

Characteristics Of Containerships
Containerships are a very popular mean of cargo transport at sea. In this project the
main features and design characteristics of containerships will be analyzed such as
the size categories of containerships, the different types of cargoes that they are
transporting , the characteristics of container gears and the speed that a container
can develop. Also the major companies that own containerships and their structure
will be described. Containerships are large commercial ships that are mostly
traveling to oceans and their main purpose is to handle containers ,which are very
big iron boxes with length around 12 meters. Each containership depends on the
lifting gear of the port that makes easier the loading process and also save time for
the ship to prepare for a voyage. In order to have smooth, and squared holds ,
containerships are constructed with double hull( Container Handbook, 2015).... Show

Taking a Look at the Lynne Deposit
The Lynne deposit lies within the early Proterozoic Penokean fold belt of the
southern province of the Precambrian Shield. The fold belt is divided into two
major terranes in Wisconsin (Sims 1989). The first is the northern Penokean terrane,
which contains major oxide facies iron formations and granitic intrusions
(DeMatties 1989). The second major terrane, separated from the Penokean terrane
by the Niagara fault zone, is the Wisconsin magmatic terrane, characterized by a
volcanic island arc basin assemblage (Sims 1989). This southern terrane lacks major
oxide facies iron formations, but contains abundant tonalite granite intrusions
(DeMatties 1989). The Wisconsin magmatic terrane is further subdivided into the
northern Pembine Wausau terrane and the southern Marshfield terrane, which are
separated by the Eau Pleine shear zone, a north dipping subduction zone (Sims
1989). Sims et al. (1989) synthesized U Pb zircon ages for the Pembine Wausau
terrane. Sims concluded that the volcanic rocks were generated from around 1889
to 1860 Ma as island arcs and closed back arc basins above the south dipping
subduction zone (Niagara fault zone). Granitoid rocks in the terrane, emplaced from
around 1870 to 1760 Ma, are mainly granodiorite and tonalite but include gabbro,
diorite, and granite. These developed as island arcs above the Eau Pleine shear zone.
The Niagara fault zone contains a relict ophiolite, suggesting that the rocks in the

Essay on Variety in The Merchant s Tale
Use of Variety in The Merchant s Tale
The Merchant s Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding
one, who is ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the
poem to show his knowledge of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity
through another figure. Irony flows through the poem, laced with allusions to the
Bible. Chaucer s use of his astronomical knowledge not only allows modern day
scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the
contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims.

Chaucer s knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem
and has been useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day
has been put down as Lady Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and
the sky brings forth more elaborate language as on the evening of the wedding day,
the phrase Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne (l.583) introduces the next
events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the story.
The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in
conjunction. This combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode
well for the marriage, especially combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on
Januarie s concern for having his Heaven on Earth.
The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring
month of May is full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the
year), but still contains the cold deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats
winter. There is a stark contrast between the characters of May and Januarie. The
latter s roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding night. His skin is Lyk
to the skyn of houndfyssh and there is an almost repulsive focus on his appearance.
May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems

heart and circulatory disease (BHF, 2011). Although there are numerous subtypes of
cardiovascular disease they are all interrelated by a common setback. Atherosclerosis,
which is the build up of a fatty streak inside of the arterial walls, is the mutual
element that links all forms of cardiovascular disease together. The build up of fatty
plaque inside of the artery walls can have a number of negative effects on the human
body. For example, angina occurs when a build up of plaque narrows the arteries,
inhibiting a sufficient amount of oxygen rich blood to pass through to the heart
(Oxford Medical Dictionary, 2010). Similarly, a heart attack occurs when part of
the fatty plaque breaks away or ruptures and clots the coronary arteries, drastically
reducing blood supply to the heart (Oxford Medical Dictionary, 2010). Both of these
conditions lead to various side effects that can significantly lower ones quality of life
or even result in death. The main risk factors that increase the probability of an
individual obtaining cardiovascular disease include tobacco smoking, obesity, high
cholesterol, high blood pressure, stress, diabetes, age (increased frequency in patients
over 65), gender (i.e. males
Engagement With North Korea Essay
Engagement with North Korea did not start with the Clinton Administration, in 1988
President Reagan s modest initiative enabled unofficial non governmental visits by
North Koreans into the United States. This gave permission for limited commercial
exports of US humanitarian goods to Pyongyang, and permission for engagement
between U.S. diplomats and North Korean officials. The importance of these
engagements should be evaluated in four main policy objectives towards our national
security:
1)Enhance regional stability:
North Korea s geographic position is critical to the national security of the U.S.,
Japan, South, Korea and the South Pacific region as a whole. Armed with significant
nuclear weapons and the fourth largest army in the world, the possibility of an
unstable North Korea has been avoided for decades, therefore recent threats ... Show

policy has prevented any threats to the international nonproliferation from a nuclear
North Korea which would have led to the development of nuclear weapons in South
Korea, and Japan, and even the trade of nuclear weapons material or technology. In
regard to missiles, the United States has secured North Korea s announcement of a
long range moratorium in fall 1999 through years of efforts. Nevertheless, there has
been no deal yet to curb North Korea s exports of its indigenous deployment. Recent
threats have prevented the U.S. in moving forward with future deals and weakens
current established ones.
3)Encourage dialogue between North Korea and South Korea:
Domestic and inter Korean politics heavily influences U.S. policy results; therefore,
maintaining a consistent diplomatic relationship with North Korea is imperative to
the dialogue between the North and South. Inconsistency from President Kim Young
Sam was largely due to his failure with Pyongyang as a result of his approach to
policymaking and domestic political pressures. Meanwhile, President Kim De Jung

America Needs Change, But Why Not Start With The...
America needs change, but why not start with the Canadians?
It was a few years ago, and I had gone grocery shopping with my mother. I d always
shop with her just so I could get out of the house, walk around, and pick out food
that I wouldn t have thought of for the grocery list. My mother was a conservative
person. She had grown up on a farm in a small town where change would least
occur. She was a spiteful person whose insecurities led her judgments. Despite her
animosity to most things, she would tell me stories to inform me on matters she
finds important, like how much money I should save for a car, or how she earned
a high credit score. On our way home from the grocery store, she decided to tell me a
story she heard from her coworker. My coworker, she has a pool in her backyard,
and one day she found the black neighbor s kids swimming in her pool. She told
them that they should ask to use her pool and told their mom, but their mom said,
and my mother used her best, yet ear aching impression of a black woman and
belted: you ain t using no pool! We can use it all we want! She decided to follow her
story with also, I m going to refer to black people as Canadians. That way no one
complains about it. Nobody cares what the actual Canadians, so my coworker found
Canadians in her pool.
I nodded silently because I had always found her racism distasteful. I had been quite
used to her prejudice, so it was natural for me to passively await her to stop. At the
time, I
Economic Growth And Foreign Direct Investment
Economic Growth and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
Introduction:
Economic growth and benefits of foreign direct investment depend on factors such as
the industry and the learning curve. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is, a controlling
ownership in a business enterprise in one country by an entity based in another
country. [1] There are three strategic types of FDI: Horizontal FDI, Platform FDI,
and Vertical FDI. The horizontal FDI is, when a firms duplicates its home country
based activates at the same value chain in a host country through FDI. Platform FDI
occurs when foreign direct investment from a source country into a destination
country for the purpose of exporting to a third country. Vertical FDI takes place
when a firm through FDI moves upstream or downstream in different value chains
i.e., when firms perform value adding activities stage by stage in a vertical fashion in
a host country. [1] It is a common belief that FDI increases local growth (economic
development); and the benefits come from transfer for technology and management
know how, introduction of new processes, and employee training. [2]
Analyzing various researches on the benefits of the FDI in different industry such as
the manufacturing and service, it appears that the benefits vary significantly between
the two. The main case for FDI (host country) is that it can positively affect the
development of the host country because of the direct financing it supplies and the
technology and management
Combustion Of Fireworks Chemistry
Don t trust atoms, they make up everything. This is true for the reaction witnessed in
the combustion of fireworks. These pretty colours and lights are the result of a
chemical reaction occurring, that ignites the firework and turns into a colourful
flame. This phenomenon can be tested inside a laboratory using similar
circumstances to that of a firework in the air. The test involves using chemicals,
similar to what is seen in fireworks and burning those chemicals under a blue flame,
which burns at 1500C. The purpose of this experiment was to observe the
characteristic flame colours produced by the metal salts burned under a blue flame.
In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound that can be formed by the neutralization
reaction of an acid and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because these levels are unstable, the electrons incline to fall down to the levels
where they were before, releasing energy as they do so. This energy is released as
light energy, and as the amount of energy released varies from other metal ions, it
leads to the characteristic colours given by each metal ion. Metal salts are used to
the produce the colour seen; a fuel is needed to allow the ion to burn; a chemical
which provides oxygen for the combustion of the fuel; and a chlorine/ binding
chemical to help strengthen; and hold the mixture together. For example, if Sodium
is placed into a flame, the sodium ions, collect all the energy given from the flame,
and then is exerted out when the ions start to die. A sodium atom in an unexcited
state has the structure 3s1, but when placed in the flame the sodium will give an
orange ting to the flame which results in the ions jumping into the next levels and
then eventually falling back from the 3p1 level to their normal 3s1 level. While it is
unknown who actually invented our found out the flame test, it can all be traced back
to Michael Faraday (Born 22nd September 1791 Died 25th August
Strike Action Memo
The purpose of this memo is to inform CTN service providers about potential
labour and possible strike action at Barrie Common Roof (165 Ferris Lane) and
Orillia Common Roof (169 Front Street South) between New Path Youth and
Family Services and their OPSEU staff. Labour negotiations between New Path
and their OPSEU staff have been ongoing and unionized staff may be in a lawful
strike position effective Friday, July 14th at 12:01 am. Last week, and earlier this
week, OPSEU members representing New Path staff held information pickets as
people left the Common Roof locations in Barrie and Orillia. If New Path unionized
staff go on strike effective Friday morning, picket action is likely to occur at both
Common Roof locations. It is hoped... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Providers are asked to notify clients of the potential of strike action at these sites
and advise them to allow for extra time in arriving for appointments. If delays
become extensive or problematic for efficient access to services at these sites,
providers may wish to arrange for service provision offsite including providing
services in the client s home where possible. Anyone in a position to cross picket
lines should also keep the following in mind: Please do not take sides in the
negotiations and respect everyone s inherent right to demonstrate within reason.
Picket lines can be lawfully established on public property (roads, sidewalks, etc.).
Be courteous and respectful to picketers. Use your car to cross picket lines. Do not
opt to park somewhere else and walk across the picket line. Chose either to listen to
information that picketers may want to share with staff or visitors or simply close
the car window if you prefer not to listen. Expect delays and be patient. Do not try
to drive through or be rude to picketers. Calling the police because of nuisance is
not an option. Police should only be contacted in the unlikely event of violence.
Make your way past the picket line cautiously and not force your way

Essay Cyber Security Departments
As the use of technology has increased drastically over the last two decades, so has
our need for technology. Technology has become a part about our everyday life and
we can find technology being used nearly everywhere. Most systems in today s
countries and societies rely on technological infrastructure; these systems include
transport systems, factory systems, power plant systems and water sanitation
systems. This brings on the question of to what extent have governments developed
their cyber securitydepartments, what evidence is there of governmental involvement
in malwareattacks and why should governments be concerned about cyber security.
Since these systems rely heavily on technology, governments have to consider them

Cyber treats of the 21st century
Computer Viruses are increasingly becoming more common, currently 148,000
computers are infected every day and the World Economic Forum predicts that
there is a 10% chance for critical infrastructure being damaged in the next 5 years .
As mentioned earlier most of the critical infrastructure like power plants and water
treatment facilities rely on computer systems, but more specifically PLC s
(Programmable Logic Controllers) 2 and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisitions System) . These control systems have a major drawback, which is
that they are susceptible to attacks by hackers if they are not configured in the
correct way. There have been several examples of systems being compromised. The
ICS CERT (Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team)
responded to 198 cyber incidents reported by power plants, water treatment plants
and other critical infrastructure during 2012 . An experiment was conducted at the
Department of Energy s Lab in Ohio in 2007. The aim of the experiment was to
prove that it is possible to hack into the US power grid and shut down diesel
generators. The experiment was called Aurora, the group of computer experts
managed to hack into the diesel generator and

tinuous with thoroughfare channel (intermediate between capillary and venule)
Thoroughfare channel ( postcapillary venule that drains bed
Capillary Beds: Two Types of Vessels
Vascular shunt (metarteriole thoroughfare channel)
Directly connects terminal arteriole and postcapillary venule
True capillaries
10 to 100 exchange vessels per capillary bed
Branch off metarteriole or terminal arteriole
Blood Flow Through Capillary Beds
True capillaries normally branch from metarteriole and return to thoroughfare channel
Precapillary sphincters regulate blood flow into true capillaries
Blood may go into true capillaries or to shunt
Regulated by local chemical conditions and vasomotor nerves
Venous System: Venules
Formed when capillary beds unite
Smallest postcapillary venules
Very porous; allow fluids and WBCs into tissues
Consist of endothelium and a few pericytes
Larger venules have one or two layers of smooth muscle cells
Veins
Formed when venules converge
Have thinner walls, larger lumens compared with corresponding arteries
Blood pressure lower than in arteries
Thin tunica media; thick tunica externa of collagen fibers and elastic networks
Called capacitance vessels (blood reservoirs); contain up to 65% of blood supply
Veins
Adaptations ensure return of blood to heart

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of High School Uniforms I went to private school for a very long time, and we always wore uniforms. Then in third grade, I switched to a public school, so I was so excited to wear what I wanted on the first day. I remember I chose this orange hoodie with a skirt, and it s so funny when I think about it now because my style really hasn t changed that much. (Keke Palmer). Fashion is an extension of people. They define who people are and how they want people to see them. Private school, La Salle Catholic College Preparatory High Schools (LSCCP) dress codes are limiting students to show their true selves and mold the students into well behaved and well dressed students to create a classy and studious environment; especially the female students. There are significantly more rules that are set towards girls than to boys. Although, public school, Mt. Hood Community College s (MHCC) dress codes are allowing their students to dress how they would like without harsh and specific rules as they dress themselves everyday. Therefore, LSCCP High School s dress code is more sexist compared to MHCC s dress code. Private high schools are known to be strict and have a high success rate after graduation. One of the factors of creating a harsh environment is having strict rules with limitations of what attending student may and may not wear. Many private high schools require uniforms for their students to wear, while others allow casual dressing, but with restrictions. At LSCCP High School, they do not require

My Cultural Backgrounds Diversity is a very significant part of my life, so to hear that Wellesley celebrates women of all different cultural backgrounds is one the biggest attractions that Wellesley has to offer for me. As a woman who comes from a family that consists two different languages and multiple minority races, it is often hard for me to feel represented and included, let alone celebrated. For many people, when they hear the word diversity they envision only a group of minorities. For myself, diversity is not just about including those with brown skin, it is about the exchange of all cultures and ideas. From political views, to language, to food, to pop culture, the exchange of these ideas makes for a diverse community and it is clear to me that Wellesley represents this idea of sharing experiences. Every time I met someone who was part of the Wellesley alumnae, student body, or faculty I either saw myself in them and their stories or I was intrigued by how different their journey to Wellesley was from any experience that I have ever had. Because I am a mix of different cultures I find that I am most comfortable within a diverse setting. Being immersed in different ideas is what I grew up with around me; so, with Wellesley being a place that can offer me this kind of diversity, is it very easy to see myself thriving in that

School was not very difficult considering I was only in grade school. My greatest passion was dance. At this point in my life I had been dancing for six years. Dancing was something I took pride in. Getting the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people excited me. This love of dance started when I was three. My mother had brought me to the Ozark Dance Academy. The music clicked on, heart pounding in my ears, I started to dance. I feel like everyone was slightly impressed. Moving to the music with all of this passion made me feel like I was dancing on air. The concept of self and identity has become increasingly important in social science in recent years. There are many competing concepts about them. The term identity can be basically understood as how we understand ourselves. It generally entails how to category people into groups by differentiate them according to their characteristics. This essay will focus on the correlations of self and identity, and society. It will stress on if self and identity are separate from society with scholars support, particular on Mead and Goffman. However, only after we have the objective, social and impersonal sense of self the Me, we can then have the subjective, personal and intimate sense of self the I (Ransome, 2010). Thus, the self is not totally made of social aspect which receives information about them from society. Individuals have their own consciousness arising from themselves, although it needs to fellow after the arising of I. Another important sociologist need to mention here is Goffman. He addressed individuals daily life as the metaphor of the drama. For Goffman, social life is a series of dramatic performances. The actor who is performing, and the other co performers who Goffman refers to as members of the team (Ransome, 2010). The audiences are who witness the performance. Goffman focused on how the self is shaped by the dramatic interactions between social actors and their audiences (Ritzer and Goodman, 2006). When an individual is interacting with others, there are according to Goffman two impressions: the one individual gives and the one they give off (Goffman, 1990). An impression is given through speaking, and this is information that individuals want to give (Goffman, 1990). Another impression which is given off is through non verbal communication. For Goffman, it is used to make the participants accept a desired

  • 13. The Common Relations Of Slavery And The Civil War Essay The common relations of slavery are between slavery and the Civil War. Most would argue that slavery ended in 1865. With this standpoint, we often brush off or neglect to further investigate slavery in its most modern forms. Over the course of history, there are few times we can truly say a social problem was completely solved. Starvation still exists, as does poverty, racism, war, segregation, injustice within government systems, and yes, even slavery. Human traffickingis modern day slavery, and it exists everywhere with two different categories: sex exploitation and labor exploitation. Humantrafficking is not new, but what is new is the volume of trafficking taking place, and how little we know about it. How can a problem, so monstrous and so widespread continue with most society being unaware of its existence? The 1800 s, and even years prior, were a period of unfathomable abuse towards people considered less than. The 21st century is also a period of unfathomable abuse towards people considered commodities. Now the common place relation between slavery and the civil war must be over, because the monster of modern day slavery has awoken. Human trafficking has key components and facts, such as the staggering numbers of victims. The official definition of human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation (Dictionary.com). Per the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), trafficking

Touring bikes were larger motorcycles equipped for longer rides and greater comfort. Within this segment, the three largest players were BMW, Harley Davidson, and Honda. Sport bikes had lighter frames, a more forward seated position, and emphasized speed, acceleration, and minimal comfort. This niche, which Ducati identified as its relevant market (see Exhibit 3), could be further disaggregated into four sub segments: hyper sport (extreme performance, closely derived from the racing world), super sport (high performance, good handling and low weight), naked (good performance and urban riding) and sport touring (speed and handling, married with comfort for longer rides). Japanese companies dominated this niche, while European firms such as Ducati, BMW, and Triumph also vied for market share. Harley Davidson entered the sport bike market by acquiring Buell Motorcycles in 1998. This segment was Ducati s reference market. Customers A wide variety of individuals, with equally different tastes, bought and rode motorcycles (Exhibit 4). Knee down, or racing aficionados, sought extreme performance and functionality (e.g., reliability and technical excellence). Prior to this intellectual property was addressed in the American Constitution stating that inventors would have exclusive rights to their discoveries. The Patent Act made patents last for fourteen years and gave inventors exclusive rights to their invention. There was no possibility of extending this time. Many inventors argued that this was unsatisfactory and that since inventions could take many years to initially be commercialized they did not have much time to make use of their patent. Another key point in the act was that foreigners were not allowed to apply for patents. The Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, and the Attorney General were the only three people initially given power to approve or reject patents. Patents were examined by these three to ensure applications met the given criteria but this process was criticized as taking an unreasonable amount of time to complete. It could take months before a patent was sufficiently examined. 2.3 Patent Reform There have been a multitude of times in history where patent laws have been either updated or thrown out. The Patent Acts of 1793 and 1837 are two such cases. These acts reformed how patents were processed, changed what the criteria for patents were, and organized how patents were filed. In 1849 the Department of the Interior became responsible for managing patents. The Patent Act
  • 16. Role Of Stephen King s Stories The Role of Stephen King s Stories in Modern American Literature Stephen King is one of the most prolific writers of this century. He has written a number of short stories and novels many of which have been turned into movies. One of the reasons that King s works are popular with readers is due to the fact that his stories give the reader something outside of the formulaic formula that many books are inclined to follow or endings that are predictable and derivative. King also made his foray into horror in the 1970 s when the genre was kind of lackluster. King offered the reader something different in that he did not shy away from the gore, gratuitous violence or cheap shocks. One of the reasons that King s works have so much power when it comes to the imagination is because he himself is a horror aficionado, who writes according to his worldview. Readers can also see the influence that Classic literature has had on the works of King. Just as the works of the Ancient Greeks and later Shakespeare focused on certain themes, such as man versus nature, good versus evil or love versus hate, so do the works of King. However, in his works King tends to twist the traditional plot of Shakespeare and the Classic by having his characters go from hero to villain or showing the loss of man s honor or humanity in the wake of horror. One of the things seen often times in his writing is the alienation of both the individual and of society. Publication of Mile 81 Mile 81 was

This unprecedented and continuous shift has left many cultural institutions struggling to adapt and are forcing them to rethink how to maintain their unique qualities while at the same time adding value. Today, no organization is immune to the disruptions caused by digitization and technological innovation, forever changing the make up of cultural institutions, and by extension, film and media museums and archives. According to Suzane Keene (2004), the essence of the traditional museum as classifier, authoritative holder and producer of knowledge and as source of the right interpretation and view of society through place based exhibitions is a building (p. 3). By contrast, the museum of the future is more of a process or an experience, moving out into the spaces of the communities it serves. Therefore, a fundamental difference between the traditional museum and the museum of the 21st century is the type of space used to preserve and present cultural heritage and the modes of access and availability this space offers. Keene points out to another difference, which has to do with what is central to museums and archives the object. As the importance of the meaning of the object and its past grows, so does the need to collect and present the intangible, as well as the tangible. The museum of the future sharpens its focus on collecting and exhibiting knowledge, rather than simply the object. Furthermore, with the perspective of new technologies, the process of digitization intensely defines the make up of the museum of the future. Keene argues that, as inventories and catalogues of collections are increasingly digitized, so they must become available as a single resource, together with related information provided by libraries, archives, sites and monuments (p. 4). Additionally, the

It is transmitted by bodily fluids. Proper hand washing precautions should be taken to keep the virus from a cold sore from spreading to the genitals. The first time herpes symptoms appear is called the primary occurrence and it worse than recurring outbreaks. Symptoms generally occur within 4 7 days after contact. Initial symptoms are burning, chronic itch or tingling. In a couple of days, pimply sores pop up on reddish skin. Later, the pimples metamorphose into agonizing blisters. When the blisters burst, they secrete blood and yellowish pus. Approximately a week after the first symptoms, scabs form, which signals healing has begun. While it is rare, it is possible for Herpes to spread to the eyes. This requires the speedy attention of a medical professional. A person can be infected and not know it. Symptoms may not show for some time following contact, yet the person can still be contagious. This is because viral shedding occurs during the tingling stage. The second major terrane, separated from the Penokean terrane by the Niagara fault zone, is the Wisconsin magmatic terrane, characterized by a volcanic island arc basin assemblage (Sims 1989). This southern terrane lacks major oxide facies iron formations, but contains abundant tonalite granite intrusions (DeMatties 1989). • 41. Cardiovascular Disease And Its Effects On The Human Body Introduction According to the British Heart Foundation, the definition of cardiovascular disease is, all diseases of the heart and circulation, including coronary heart disease (i.e. angina, heart attack), heart failure, congenital heart disease, and stroke. It is also known as heart and circulatory disease (BHF, 2011). Although there are numerous subtypes of cardiovascular disease they are all interrelated by a common setback. Atherosclerosis, which is the build up of a fatty streak inside of the arterial walls, is the mutual element that links all forms of cardiovascular disease together. The build up of fatty plaque inside of the artery walls can have a number of negative effects on the human body. For example, angina occurs when a build up of plaque narrows the arteries, inhibiting a sufficient amount of oxygen rich blood to pass through to the heart (Oxford Medical Dictionary, 2010). Similarly, a heart attack occurs when part of the fatty plaque breaks away or ruptures and clots the coronary arteries, drastically reducing blood supply to the heart (Oxford Medical Dictionary, 2010). Both of these conditions lead to various side effects that can significantly lower ones quality of life or even result in death. The main risk factors that increase the probability of an individual obtaining cardiovascular disease include tobacco smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stress, diabetes, age (increased frequency in patients over 65), gender (i.e. males
  • 42. Engagement With North Korea Essay Engagement with North Korea did not start with the Clinton Administration, in 1988 President Reagan s modest initiative enabled unofficial non governmental visits by North Koreans into the United States. This gave permission for limited commercial exports of US humanitarian goods to Pyongyang, and permission for engagement between U.S. diplomats and North Korean officials. The importance of these engagements should be evaluated in four main policy objectives towards our national security: 1)Enhance regional stability: North Korea s geographic position is critical to the national security of the U.S., Japan, South, Korea and the South Pacific region as a whole. Armed with significant nuclear weapons and the fourth largest army in the world, the possibility of an unstable North Korea has been avoided for decades, therefore recent threats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... policy has prevented any threats to the international nonproliferation from a nuclear North Korea which would have led to the development of nuclear weapons in South Korea, and Japan, and even the trade of nuclear weapons material or technology. In regard to missiles, the United States has secured North Korea s announcement of a long range moratorium in fall 1999 through years of efforts. Nevertheless, there has been no deal yet to curb North Korea s exports of its indigenous deployment. Recent threats have prevented the U.S. in moving forward with future deals and weakens current established ones. 3)Encourage dialogue between North Korea and South Korea: Domestic and inter Korean politics heavily influences U.S. policy results; therefore, maintaining a consistent diplomatic relationship with North Korea is imperative to the dialogue between the North and South. Inconsistency from President Kim Young Sam was largely due to his failure with Pyongyang as a result of his approach to policymaking and domestic political pressures. Meanwhile, President Kim De Jung has

I d always shop with her just so I could get out of the house, walk around, and pick out food that I wouldn t have thought of for the grocery list. My mother was a conservative person. She had grown up on a farm in a small town where change would least occur. She was a spiteful person whose insecurities led her judgments. Despite her animosity to most things, she would tell me stories to inform me on matters she finds important, like how much money I should save for a car, or how she earned a high credit score. On our way home from the grocery store, she decided to tell me a story she heard from her coworker. My coworker, she has a pool in her backyard, and one day she found the black neighbor s kids swimming in her pool. She told them that they should ask to use her pool and told their mom, but their mom said, and my mother used her best, yet ear aching impression of a black woman and belted: you ain t using no pool! We can use it all we want! She decided to follow her story with also, I m going to refer to black people as Canadians. That way no one complains about it. Nobody cares what the actual Canadians, so my coworker found Canadians in her pool. I nodded silently because I had always found her racism distasteful. I had been quite used to her prejudice, so it was natural for me to passively await her to stop. At the time, I
  • 44. Economic Growth And Foreign Direct Investment Economic Growth and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Introduction: Economic growth and benefits of foreign direct investment depend on factors such as the industry and the learning curve. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is, a controlling ownership in a business enterprise in one country by an entity based in another country. [1] There are three strategic types of FDI: Horizontal FDI, Platform FDI, and Vertical FDI. The horizontal FDI is, when a firms duplicates its home country based activates at the same value chain in a host country through FDI. Platform FDI occurs when foreign direct investment from a source country into a destination country for the purpose of exporting to a third country. Vertical FDI takes place when a firm through FDI moves upstream or downstream in different value chains i.e., when firms perform value adding activities stage by stage in a vertical fashion in a host country. [1] It is a common belief that FDI increases local growth (economic development); and the benefits come from transfer for technology and management know how, introduction of new processes, and employee training. [2] Analyzing various researches on the benefits of the FDI in different industry such as the manufacturing and service, it appears that the benefits vary significantly between the two. The main case for FDI (host country) is that it can positively affect the development of the host country because of the direct financing it supplies and the technology and management

These pretty colours and lights are the result of a chemical reaction occurring, that ignites the firework and turns into a colourful flame. This phenomenon can be tested inside a laboratory using similar circumstances to that of a firework in the air. The test involves using chemicals, similar to what is seen in fireworks and burning those chemicals under a blue flame, which burns at 1500C. The purpose of this experiment was to observe the characteristic flame colours produced by the metal salts burned under a blue flame. In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound that can be formed by the neutralization reaction of an acid and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because these levels are unstable, the electrons incline to fall down to the levels where they were before, releasing energy as they do so. This energy is released as light energy, and as the amount of energy released varies from other metal ions, it leads to the characteristic colours given by each metal ion. Metal salts are used to the produce the colour seen; a fuel is needed to allow the ion to burn; a chemical which provides oxygen for the combustion of the fuel; and a chlorine/ binding chemical to help strengthen; and hold the mixture together. For example, if Sodium is placed into a flame, the sodium ions, collect all the energy given from the flame, and then is exerted out when the ions start to die. A sodium atom in an unexcited state has the structure 3s1, but when placed in the flame the sodium will give an orange ting to the flame which results in the ions jumping into the next levels and then eventually falling back from the 3p1 level to their normal 3s1 level. While it is unknown who actually invented our found out the flame test, it can all be traced back to Michael Faraday (Born 22nd September 1791 Died 25th August

Technology has become a part about our everyday life and we can find technology being used nearly everywhere.
