Gluster FS is a distributed file system that can scale to support large "Big Data" workloads. It uses commodity hardware and runs on Linux servers. Data and metadata are distributed across server nodes and storage bricks to provide fault tolerance and high performance. Clusters can be expanded elastically by adding additional servers and storage. The system was implemented to address the need for scalable storage to support indexing and analytics of large document collections totaling hundreds of gigabytes per month.
