Mass Media Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of mass media can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in the vastness and complexity of the subject matter. Mass media encompasses a
broad spectrum of communication channels, including television, radio, newspapers, magazines,
social media, and more. Tackling such a diverse and dynamic field requires a comprehensive
understanding of its historical context, technological advancements, societal impact, and
ongoing developments.
One of the challenges is staying updated with the rapidly evolving nature of mass media.
Technologies change, new platforms emerge, and societal attitudes shift, making it crucial for the
essay to reflect the most current information. Moreover, delving into the nuances of media
ethics, the influence of mass media on public opinion, and the interplay between media and
politics requires a nuanced and well-researched approach.
Crafting a coherent and persuasive argument also poses its own set of difficulties. It demands a
delicate balance between presenting factual information, analyzing various perspectives, and
offering a thoughtful synthesis of ideas. Moreover, the writer needs to navigate through the
potential biases and controversies that often surround media-related issues, ensuring an objective
and well-supported presentation of arguments.
Another layer of complexity arises in addressing the global nature of mass media. The impact of
media is not confined to a specific region or culture, making it essential to consider diverse
perspectives and international dimensions. This requires extensive research and a keen awareness
of the cultural, political, and economic factors that shape media landscapes worldwide.
In conclusion, writing an essay on mass media demands not only a deep understanding of the
subject matter but also the ability to navigate through its intricate web of complexities. It is a
task that requires diligence, critical thinking, and a commitment to staying informed about the
ever-changing media landscape. Nevertheless, despite its challenges, the process of exploring
and dissecting the multifaceted world of mass media can be intellectually stimulating and
ultimately rewarding.

Outcome Based Practice
Outcome based practice, is defined by the Scottish Government as an outcomes based
approach encourages us all to focus on the differences that we make and not just the
input or processes over which we have control (Scottish Government 2011). In 2011,
the English Government launched is first framework of outcomes for adult healthand
social care. Within this framework, they stated set of outcomes measures which have
been agreed to be of value, both nationally and locally for demonstrating the
achievements of adult social care . The Social Care Institute for Excellence define
outcomes as follows:

Urvashi And Pururavas Myths
Urvashi and Pururavas is a quasi myth that depicts a story of love and passion,
containing elements displaying societal perceptions of women. Quasi myths are
stories with elements of a myth within them, and within the 10th Book of the Rig
Veda the myth of Urvashi and Pururavas has greatly intrigued me (Sen, Aditi). The
first half of this paper will present my analysis for deciding to use the story of
Urvashi and Pururavas, while the second half of this paper will outline my rational
for my story book interpretation of the story. Most myths, especially those of
religious standing, in my perception, present an outlook into the lives and society of
those creating a myth. Myths can be a representation of social hierarchies and an
explanation for societal rules and biases. The depiction into society that I have been
most interested in, within the quasi myth of Urvashi Pururavas, is that of how
women are viewed and the standards to which women are held. Urvashi is presented
as an individual of value to Pururavas due to her beauty. She is considered worthy of
marriage, not due to her character or intelligence or values, but the perception of her
external worth. It is interesting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intent was to use significant images and a small description to convey a
beautiful message, that symbolizes the rise and demise of Pururavas through
Urvashi. Representing Pururavas was images of Ranveer Singh, to display a strong
young man, who might have been, in my opinion, the epitome of good looking. In
order to present a delicate and sensual woman of the era of the Rig Veda, I used
images of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from Devdas and Nandana Sen. I hoped to create
something aesthetically pleasing that portrayed the beauty of all of the characters and
represents core elements of importance that I viewed within the
Benefits Of Interactive Data To Improve Financial
Reporting
Answer: It is reasonable to exempt small companies with revenue under $250
million from filing in XBRL format for a short period (3 5 years) for the cost of
preparation, but it is not a good idea to implement this exemption for long time. 1)
XBRL has significant benefits for the transparency improvement of financial
report. As Du and Vasarhelyi et al., (2013) stated, there has been over one decade
of studies and evaluations on Internet facilitated financial reporting in general and
XBRL in particular (Ashbaugh et al. 1999; Debreceny et al. 2002; Ettredge et al.
2002; Debreceny et al. 2005; Kelton and Yang 2008; Debreceny et al. 2010). These
studies explored, advocated, and generally supported the idea of using the Internet to

Potential users include regulators, accountants, banks, analysts, investors,
management, and any other member of the financial information supply chain.
The XBRL report can offer a platform to use an interactive language to
communicate with each other informatively. The third benefit is the XBRL
process and savings. Based on the old financial reporting system, company
information is hosted on their website in PDF or HTML format, and this
information is costly to retrieve, manipulate and utilize by other interested and
concerned parties. Companies spend billions of dollars on this method of data
presentation and transfer. Implementation of XBRL will result in cost savings and
the data will be cheaper, better, and faster. 2) The cost of XBRL report for small
companies The main reason for this exemption is the cost to prepare and file the
XBRL report. But, as the two papers mentioned in the question argued, A recent
study of smaller filers by the AICPA showed that the median cost to file in XBRL
in the US for the companies that would be covered by the exemption is USD $8000
annually, covering the detailed tagging of 3 quarterly financial statements and 1
annual financial statement, so it s fair to say that the savings claims by the proposal
s supporters are somewhat overblown. It is not too much. So, in my opinion, some
potential costs would happen in this time, but these costs would decrease step by
step. The first cost is the psychological cost for small
Teen Violence
What is teen violence? Teen violence is an act of harmful behaviors by a teen that
can cause emotional or physical harm to another teen. Teen violence is the most
deadliest among youth in America. Every year, many teens lose their lives to gun
violence. This paper will mention the effects of teen violence in the community, what
causes how it can be prevented a. Various things contribute to the causes of teen
violence. There are many theories on what causes teen violence. Some things that
contribute to teen violence are mental health conditions, violence at home, and
environmental learning. Mental health problems can be a result of teen violence
because teens who have mental problems are expected to act out. Teens who have

More people are killed in Chicago, IL than the people fighting over in Afghanistan.
Violence kills more young people in Chicago than any other city in America.
About 30% of students lose their lives to shootings in Chicago . Many teen s aren t
expected to live to see another day, because so many teen s are losing their lives
from gun shots. To decrease the death rate of young adults in Chicago,IL the city
came up with a summer job program. This program was created to give jobs to teens
that lived in poverty stricken neighborhoods. The outcome of this program was
successful. The results of her study suggest that just 25 hours of minimum wage
employment each week during summer break was enough to reduce teen violence by
43% over the course of 16 months. This program cuts down youth violence and
helped keep troubled teens on the streets of Chicago. Teen violence doesn t only
affect teen s and other people, but it affects the community too. In communities with
high rates of youth violence it brings concern to the community by teen gangs,
burglary, drugs, and racial divisions. Gang violence puts the community in a panic.
The community is left on edge to deal with vandalism, the production of drugs, and
drug sales. With high rates of youth violence the community has higher health cost
due to more emergency visits. In addition, property values decrease over time from
teen violence in the area the neighborhood. Even social services are

Contributions Of Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn t exactly succeed in the school
institution even though his family was wealthy, they didn t help Darwin with his
courses in college. Dr. Robert Darwin, Darwin s father sent him to medical school
at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin flunked out and was sent to Cambridge
University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John Henslow took Darwin
scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like Captain
Robert Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy s
naturalist unpaid companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a
survey of the southern coast of South American and to obtain more accurate fixes of
longitudes by using new instruments. Darwin plans were to observe and collect
specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin s most significant discoveries was his
discovery of the finches located on the GalГЎpagos Islands. The finches were a
major key to Darwin s theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle also
gave Charles Darwinthe idea of the theory of evolution and natural selection.
Darwin s voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining
moment of his career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75
individuals. Darwin had a different position on the ship as his counterparts. His
father paid his way on the beagle which gave him perks that his fellow naturalist did
not have (Janice c

Bernie Madoff s Ponzi Scheme
Fraud Assessment A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment
of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors
(Ponzi Schemes 2013). Ponzi schemes enable fraudsters to approach victims and
solicit funds from them by guaranteeing that their low risk investments will yield
high rates of return. In return, investors receive dividends paid by the fraudster from
the funds solicited from newer victims. The attraction of new victims enables the
fraudster to make dividend payments to his or her older investors, which stimulates
the legitimacy of the investment company. A prime example of a Ponzi scheme is
Bernie Madoff and Bernie L. Madoff Investment Securities. Over a period of twenty

Like other fraudsters, Ponzi schemers require a financial pressure not solvable by
legal means as motivation to commit fraud. Financial pressures for Ponzi schemers
range anywhere from maintaining a luxurious lifestyle to simply improving wealth.
Scott Rothstein stole $1.4 billion from Florida residents to compensate his
extravagant lifestyle. Opportunity for fraud occurs when their current position
enables them to commit fraud and they are able to keep the illegimate activities
hidden. Most Ponzi schemers are in positions that allow them to knowledgably
commit fraud. Investment brokers are not the only individuals who commit Ponzi
schemes. Gerald Payne was a church pastor who stole $20 million and deposited
funds under the $10,000 limit into personal bank accounts. When the crime is
complete, fraudsters justify to themselves why it is acceptable. Since there is a
constant flow of money, Ponzi schemers believe the mentality that no one is getting

A Narrative Of Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs. Mary...
From the import and enslavement of Africans to the mass movement and genocide
of a multitude of Native peoples, the captivity and enslavement of these peoples are
among the worst travesties in the history of the United States of America. In Mary
Rowlandson s A Narrative of Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson,
she writes autobiographically about the Native American raid on her village, the
capture of herself and others including her children and other relatives, the way she
was treated by her captors, and her eventual release back into English custody.
Next, we have excerpts from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by

In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass says that the slaves on Mr.
Lloyd s plantation were only allotted a bushel of corn meal and eight pounds of
either pork or fish for the entire year (1175). To start off, a starved, impoverished
and enslaved people will never have the strength to fight back. Also, even though
physical abuse is enough to keep a population in control, starvation is probably one
the best controls. Without a proper diet, someone cannot function at their fullest
mental capacity nor can they be of any resistance to their masters. Most
importantly, if they are starved, they will not have the energy or capability of
running away. In comparison, Mary Rowlandson wrote in her biography A
Narrative of the Captivity and Capture of Mary Rowlandson that the Natives did
not give her anything but a few drinks of cold water for four nights (272). Except
for a few exceptions during her captivity, Rowlandson claims that she was
practically starved for the entirety of her bondage save for a few handful of nuts and
other naturally occurring nourishment she could find. Again, we find that a starved
person is easier to control and less likely to run due to the physical weakness brought
on by starvation. The state of constant starvation is something that we as a people do
not have the misfortune to understand. However, their captors must be bone
chillingly cruel to be able to starve their captives to the point that they did and not
have any
Foreshadowing In The Inspector Calls
The story, The Inspector Calls is set in the year 1912, in the Pre World War I Era in
a fictional place called Brumley, an industrial city in the north Midlands , which is
most likely located in England due to the author being an English playwright, and
the content of the play analysis the English society and hierarchy. At that time in
England, the reigning monarch was King George V, with the strong lingering
influence of the Edwardian Era in the people, named after Edward VII. At that time,
women were given slightly more social status than in previous times, and also
rallied and marched for a greater political and social power, and also more rights.
The workers were demanding more rights from their employers in factories and
corporations due to them being traditionally treated less well than other members of
society. The stage setting of the playin located in the house belonging to the Birling
family, the set is moved throughout the household, for example, in the dining room
and the living room.

lands of France, Russia, and Britain. This is an ironic foreshadowing as the character

that he has experience . Another irony is that he said that Russia will always be

The Man Who Shot At Snapping Turtles Summary
The Man Who Shot At Snapping Turtles begins on the estate of a man by the name
of Asa Stryker. Stryker possessed a pond on his estate which he had taken special
interest to because of the wild ducks that would congregate there. Stryker was
amazed at the sight of the ducks and greatly enjoyed watching them from his porch.
Unfortunately, his enjoyment was short lived as he quickly discovered another
creature also had put down roots in his pond: the snapping turtle. The snapping
turtles quickly became a menace to Stryker s enjoyment of his property as they
would continually latch onto all the young wild ducklings, drown them under the
pond, and eat them. Stryker resolved to rid his property of the snapping turtle by any

develop the size and strength necessary to avoid being preyed upon by the notorious

killing much of the vegetation in his pond. Stryker became rather frustrated and one
day sought the counsel of his neighbor, Clarence, an agent in the employee of an
advertising agency. Clarence had suggested Stryker do the opposite of what he had
intended and cultivate the population of snapping turtles so that he might enjoy them
as food in a snapping turtle soup. Though initially resistant to the idea, Stryker took
this advice and made a business of selling canned snapping turtle soup with the aid of
Clarence s marketing

What is Organizational Theory
Organizational Theories
Organizational theory deals with the study of the interaction of an organization with
its environment. Emphasis on organizational theories has over time changed from the
stiff and hierarchical structures, widespread during the industrial era to more broader
and flexible structures prevalent in the modern, technological era. In this regard,
organizational theories have attracted serious attention. This post focuses on three
organizational theories of the 20th century and if or not they are applicable in the
21st century integrating organizational culture, structures, leadership and enabling
technologies. These are classical organizational theory, human relation theory, and
contingency theory.
Classical Organizational Theory
Classical organizational theory originated in the first half of the 20th century. This
theory concentrated on formal organizations and ideas to increase efficiency in their
management. This theory merged together the scientific, bureaucratic and
administrative theories. Relative to structure, this theory was constructed on a
hierarchical structure dividing workers based on functionality with various reporting
paths on every working unit. That is, workers report to their respective manager(s)
for their tasks as well as disciplinary matters. This theory puts the manager/owner of
the organization in total control over the workers. Furthermore, this theory employed
enabling technologies to increase efficiency. The classical
Secret Handshake Analysis
For the last century Canada has evolved into a sovereign nation, through politics,
democracy, government, peacekeeping, bilingual and multinationalism. Canada s
unique history and geography has contributed to Canada s national identity, however
many people still question, what does it means to be Canadian? Thus a national
identity crisis occurs, and although ethnicity and diversity is apart of Canadian
identity, it also challenges it by having many differences with one another. Many
believe that Canadalacks a strong national identity because it is too diverse to form a
cohesive community; a sense of connection to other people who share similar
interests, a common history, cultureand language. The past can help with this crisis
by looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term secret handshake is a specific gesture known between two parties; this
connection is only meant to be understood by Canadians. Coupland s exhibition
investigates Canadian cultural identity by using imagery and objects that is symbolic
to Canadians.2 The souvenirs that he has of Canada in this exhibition, reminds
people about their complexity of their nation and its origins, something that is easily
forgotten because multiculturalism/ pluralism overwrites/is more important than
Canada s unique history. Apart of this exhibition is the G7 Series, which
appropriates many iconic works of The Group of Seven. Coupland chooses the
Group of Seven to feature in his works because their representation of Canadian
wilderness still shapes Canadians ideas about their homeland and about art, making
them a national symbol. In his novel, Souvenir of Canada, Coupland writes, they
brought Canada alive... The paintings of the Group of Seven are like a code... a
secret handshake among Canadians, something meaningless to audiences outside the
country. (48) His G7 series, that is shown at the MOCCA exhibition includes: Harris
Maligned Lake, Sampson Matthews Variant, 2011., Harris No.11, Green Mountain,
2011., and Thomson Campfire, 2013. The series are based on degraded digital
images of the Group of Seven most iconic works that were found on the internet.
Coupland creates a geometric language through Adobe Photoshop to reduce the
composition of these well known landscapes into polygons, determining the hues
based on his own colour sense.3 Coupland uses appropriation in a subtle way by
titling the artist, and keeping the name of the painting, however he also includes
Sampson Matthews Variant indicating an important time for Canadian art history.
The Sampson Matthews Silkscreens was a tool used by the
Wicca Invocation
The word invoke, as defined by Merriam Webster, means to petition for help, to call
forth or summon, or to solicit through an earnest request. Its first use occurred in
the 15th century. The word invoke is from Middle English envoken from the
Middle French very invoquer. This originated with the Latin verb invocare, which
is composed of the root vocare meaning to call , and can be found in such words as
voice and vocation. This is the same as that found in the word envoke. The Latin
word invocare means to call upon, or implore. When used as part of the noun
invocation, the word means to petition (to God or a god) for aid or comfort , such
as a prayer, but can also mean a summoning of evil spirits . I believe all of these
definitions are applicable to the use of the word in Wicca. On its most basic level,
invoking is calling something within yourself. When this is done, it is also a way of
petitioning a deity for assistance. And while it is possible to summon evil spirits, it
is the summoning of benign spirits, elements, entities and deities that form the basis
for invoking within the Wiccan faith. It is calling them within yourself to work with
the combined energy. In the Wiccan practice, the process of invocation is a powerful
tool and is a form of voluntary possession. You are temporarily replacing... Show

I know that it requires a lot of energy, a more than passing understanding of the
deity or spirit that you are trying to invoke, and the intent to do so. I m sure a
practitioner can have varying degrees of success with this. Some experiences may
be more memorable than others. But I welcome the opportunity and look forward to
reaching the point where I can try this. Combining the energies of the Goddess with
my own would be an amazing feeling. However, I think this is something I would
use on special occasions, as it seems to be something that should be used with
Tones At Past Two Tone
There are two main tones in this story, a happy one and a gloomy one. These both
tones come together in the poem to create the theme of desires and significance in
life. The poem first begins with a happy tone. The old man in the story is happy
and welcomes/accepts his chances of dying. This is shown by him saying things
like he is ready for heaven and is finally done with picking apples. In line eight he
says, I am dosing off, he is indicating that he has finished everything planned and is
ready for his judgment. I believe that this tone sets up the theme of desires and the
significance in life, but does not necessarily complete it. As we keep reading through
the poem, it starts to introduce a sad mood. He starts accepting his fate when
Solar Power Appliances
Introduction
Founded in 1987 by a professor of electrical engineering at the University of
Stanford, the SunPower Company has lived to beat adversities and emerged as a
formidable force to reckon with in the provision of solar energy in the past few
decades. Markedly, Dr. Richard Swanson acted on a market gap and spearheaded the
company s establishment from a research and development corporation to a fully

worldwide warming and climate change, there have been entrants in the same line of
business that compete with SunPower. As a result, a reduction in the company s
market share occurred over the past decades.

Despite its marked development, the SunPower Company still experiences
aggressive competition from larger solar cells producers in the world. Since solar
energy is a permanent solution to concerns on climate change, there have been scores
of entrants into the same line of business. For instance, the company faces stiff
competition from the Asian and Middle East countries. Some of its main competitors
include Sharp Solar, who is the chief competitor, Q cells, REC Cells, First cells, and
Sun Tech among others.

Foreign Policy Is Shaped Based On The Best Interests Of...
Foreign policy is shaped based on the best interests of the country. When
establishing foreign policies, the focus will be on advancing the goals of the nation.
Foreign policy guides how America conducts business as well as develops political,
and social relations with other countries. National interests covers a wide array of
topics from trade, to economics, to terrorism. When America was first established, the
only goals was to prevent European dominance. Once Europe was prevented from
colonizing any American lands, at the end of the 19th Century the nation tuned their
focus on foreign policy.

The president plays a dominant force in foreign policy because the president

of the nation. The executive branch make many important decisions involving key
players in foreign policy. For one, the president is responsible for appoint
ambassadors who represent the president in foreign locales. Ambassadors report to
the president and support their foreign policy. The president is the chief diplomat
developing agreements with other countries through their leaders. These relationships
aid in the development of foreign policies. The president acts as a mediator between
the nation and the foreign locale. The president receives foreign dignities in order to
negotiate foreign policy.
Even though these powers are shared with the Senate, the President has greater
influence over the making of foreign policy because they deal with foreign
dignitaries and world leaders on a one on one basis. When the president is able to

Explain Why Some People Should Be Kind To Other People
Some people may be familiar with this Bible verse in Proverbs 19:17 which says,
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his
deed. or this other Bible verse; It is well with the man who deals generously and
lends; who conducts his affairs with justice from Psalm 112:5. They both talk about
generosity in other words, kindness. In today s world, people act in a way based on
their morals, culture, logic or based on their religion. Some people have a belief that
they should be kind to others because they might receive the same kindness back. But
kindness is something much more than what people think it is. It is about acceptance
regardless of differences, respect and giving without expectation. 6 years

Shift managers can access cash management functions that are used to count tills,
modify or correct transactions and to prepare daily bank deposit.
A menu of available reports is available on a report menu.
The Store manager can access these reports to track sales, find out customer
transactions within different hours range, to check sale by product category, to record
wastage, to carry a financial audit.
All this information is relevant for Store Managers to identify business requirements
and customer needs, to identify peak time in the store, to increase or amend product
ordering, to control wastage and track stock and decide whether is necessary to cut
labour.
Managers can access staff information and personal details in the work station, they
can insert new partners, terminate partners, maintain employee records, track
employee s training and process payroll.
The payroll process transfers information to the support centre in order to pay
partners.
Store Manager and the shift supervisors can use the IRIS System to process
electronic ordering for food, stationery, packaging.

Gingsberg Believes America s Youth Must Live up to...
Young nonconformists reveal how one particular mode of idealizing youth is an
American convention that hinders the progress of past and present generations. The
speaker proposes an alternative way to idealize youth because young Americans can
disrupt expectations and enforce change. Celebrating young Americans who do not
live up to America s expectations allows Ginsberg to celebrate the majority of young
people. Realizing the harmful effects that stem from idealizing youthforces the
speaker to look to the past. Ben Lee suggests:
Ginsberg s use of anaphora forces us to question the historical origins of both social
afflictions and collective resistance in Howl, this blurring of the poet s central objects
of identification implies that his lamentation for the madness of his own generation is
also a lamentation for the blighted hopes and wasted intellects of their precursors
(384).
Lee notices that Ginsberg s use of anaphora questions the historical origins of both
social afflictions and collective resistance in Howl. The origins of both social
afflictions and collective resistance stems from America s need to impose unrealistic
expectations on young people. Ginsberg idealizes America s youth by celebrating
their imperfection. Ginsberg blurs his central objects of identification by finding a
connection between the insanity that Carl Solomon and Naomi Ginsberg share. The
blighted hopes and wasted intellects of America s past and present generation are

Lesser Developed Countries
Paul Collier is the author of The Bottom Billion a 2007 book about Lesser
Developed Countries (LDCs) and why they struggle to progress despite vast
amounts of foreign aid. Collier makes the argument that while much of LDCs are
becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and Central Asia who is stuck due
to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is in Africa.
According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the
bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal
civil war. Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil
war and the war itself lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is
partly due to the large amount of available young men who are out of work and
ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of the state, this becomes quite easy.
The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved due to the potential of
profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and according to
Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when
the fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost
all of the world s hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement.
Low income, slow growth, and commodity export dependence make up the top three
attributes of a high civil war risk country, which is hard to live down after it begins,
since
High Schools Are Not Preparing Their Graduates For
College
High Schools are not Preparing Their Graduates for College
Three out of four graduates are not fully prepared for college, because of this they
are almost certain to take remedial classes in which they can prepare to be
freshman, in their second semester of college. ACT s have tested 50% of these
graduates, and it was measured that only 25% of that was actually prepared in all
three areas of testing. So what is wrong with this picture? The problem is American
high schools are not preparing their students for a college environment, and college
work. Students aren t receiving the key work and lessons needed for college. With all
the method that teachers have, which aren t working to the extent they should be,
they are honestly forced to help these students out when they should have been
prepared to begin with. With that said, High School teachers are not preparing their
students academically for college. Colleges are forced to do studies in consideration
of improving the United States Academic reputation, and the overall education for
America. High School teaching techniques are not preparing their students for
College. Its believed that new case studies have found that U.S. High Schools are
teaching their core College preparatory courses and what colleges want incoming
students to know in order for them to succeed in Freshmen courses. (Higher
Education, 2007) A large role in this is that High School teachers are preparing their
students for more broad skills, ideas,

Introduction
The world is changing every single day. The communities change and so do the
community services. This paper looks at what the future looks like for Houston Fire
Department. The discussion looks at the situation in the past, at the moment and tries
to forecast the future Fire Department. In order to project how the department will
look like in the next twenty years, it is important to take stock of past developments
in the firefighting industry in general and Houston Fire Department in specific.
Discussion
There are several positive advancements that have been realized in fire emergency
response over time. Benchmarking on the current status, the Houston Fire
Department is likely to evolve in three key areas. First, technological advancement.
At the moment, Project Ethan has brought a revolution in emergency response
service. Project Ethan has been rolled out across the firehouses in the city. Project
Ethan is a solution where people used video chats to communicate with medical
doctors on emergencies and receive emergency care services. At the moment,
referrals are made between 10am and 6pm on weekdays. From the trends seen with
this product, many people are adopting this technology. As a matter of fact, there is a

The department has evolved over time in terms of the service it renders to the public.
The traditional fire department was merely concerned with extinguishing fire and fire
related response. Today, the fire department offers more than just fire accident
response. This paradigm shift will progress into the future. The Houston Fire
Department will shift to offer comprehensive emergency response services as
opposed to fire incident management alone. In this endeavor, there are likely
partnerships with insurance agencies, education institutions for capacity building and

Rumspringa- the Amish Ritual
Rumspringa: An Amish Ritual
Introduction:
In the Amish religion, there lies a pivotal tradition for many of its adolescent
followers. There are a number of Americans whom are likely to have never heard of
this rite; as it is practiced by a small demographic, consisting of roughly 200,000
people . Their tradition, referred to as the Pennsylvania German term Rumspringa ,
can best be explained by the word s translation. With rum , translating in English to
around , and schpringe , meaning to run or to skip , Rumspringa roughly translates
to: running around . In essence, this is what the young participants do, as they
explore the modern American society. While this tradition entails both religious
symbol and myth, the primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the modern world symbolizing damnation, the Amishreligion counters by
symbolizing salvation. These statements alone, with such confidence in the religion,
help explain why there is an impressive and astonishingly high, (80 90%) return rate
among the tested Amish.
Symbol
The concept of The Devil s Playground not only serves as an Amish myth, but as a
symbol as well. Consider the statement made by Roger Schmidt saying, Symbols
reveal how life should be ordered . Our daily experience in modern America is
conditioned to be a normal concept to us, thus a symbol of the world we know.
Consequently, if Schmidt s statement rings true, it also orders how our lives should
be lived. To the Amish, on the other hand, this everyday life most of the nation leads
symbolizes temptation and sin. Per Schmidt s philosophy, the Amish life is then
ordered by what the outside world symbolizes to them; a life of sacrifice and purity
must be lived. Aside from the everyday symbol that orders life, there is one other
symbol in Rumspringa that bears mentioning. Oddly enough, the symbol lies within
the meaning of the word Rumspringa itself. A point that Schmidt makes is, Symbols
are vehicles of meaning . With this in mind, one might ask what Rumspringa a
vehicle of meaning is for. While the word literally translates to running around ,
many have perceived its name as being a
What Is Thin Layer Chromatography
FUNDAMENTAL UNITS OF LIFE ARE found in molecules consisting of amino
acids. In the center of every amino acid is an О± carbon with an amino group, a
carboxy group, a hydrogen, and a side chain group (R group) attached to it. The
difference in side chain groups (R groups) is what distinguishes the different amino
acids. If an amino acidhas a positively charged (+) side chain, it is a basic amino acid.
If an amino acid has a negatively charged ( ) side chain, it is a acidic amino acid. If
an amino acid has a polar side chain its categorized as a polar amino acid, and if it
had a nonpolar side chain is is categorized as a nonpolar amino acid. There are two

It can give the polarity of that solution, reactivity of the solution, the phase of the
reaction of the solution and the hydrophobicity of the solution. With this, one can
determine the type of bonds in a solution relative to the other solutions as well as
relative to the developer. There are three steps to the process of Thin Layer
Chromatography; spotting, development (mobile phase), and visualization. During
the spotting process solution(s) is/are dabbed with a capillary tube on the origin
line of the TLC sheet to the required amount to give a starting point. TLC sheets
have a polar silica gel on them which will react with the dabbed solution(s). The
more polar the solution the more it will react with the polar silica gel. Once placed
in the developer tank the mobile phase begins, as the somewhat polar developer
(less polar than the silica gel) will move up the the TLC sheet through capillary
action. The amino acids that are more hydrophobic will move along with the
developer upward and away from the silica gel whereas the more hydrophilic
amino acids will be more attracted to the polar silica and will move less than
hydrophobic amino acids which are more attracted to the mobile phase caused by
the developer. The solvent front is determined when the developer has almost
reached to top of the TLC sheet. It is important to avoid it reaching to top, because
it can cause a skew in data if allowed. The amino acids that are first to reach the top
will sit at the top while the other less hydrophobic amino acids will get closer
causing a skewed perspective in polarities between the amino acids at the top and the
rest. After this the TLC sheet is removed, the solvent front is drawn, and the sheet
now needs to dry. The next step in the development phase is helpful when identifying
differences in amino acids. The TLC sheet is sprayed with ninhydrin which
catabolizes the amino acids, then
Racial Discrimination In America
There should be no discrimination against languages people speak, skin color, or

youngest ever Nobel prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai. (Most) individuals in the
United States would agree with this statement, at least verbally. However,
discriminationis a widespread phenomenon in America. For many Americans, it
impacts nearly every aspect of every day of their lives, from the way they talk and

It may be unintended and subconscious, nevertheless, it must be understood and
remedied in employment processes. The nature of this discrimination being
subconscious means that laissez faire decision making, or decision making with
minimal interference and oversight, will lead to increases in discriminatory practices,
as the originating cognitive processes have been shown to be nearly universal.
(pg.326, Reskin) However, this suggests that levels of bias, stereotyping, and
discrimination can be influenced by decision making standards, and if they can be
influenced in an increasing trend, then they can be controlled towards a decrease as
well. (pg.375, Fiske) Therefore, employment discrimination can be controlled by what
is and isn t allowed by the organization in terms of an individual s input contributing
to personnel decisions, permitting or preventing the activation of cognitive

Female Heroism
In both Goblin Market and The Bloody Chamber , women face objectification as
pornographic objects whose solitary purpose is to be a man s appealing possession.
Evidently, the objectification of women impacted the way each author constructed
their texts. Feminist movements aiming to undermine these rigid female and male
roles are prominent in the time period of both literary works. Both Christina Rossetti
and Angela Carter use strange worlds to differentiate from the typical fairy tale s
predictable conclusion and instead make a statement through the use of a female

The Great Depression and The Global Economy
Since the great depression, the global economy has been facing a number of ups and
downs. With the markets being built rapidly and crashing down in the other instant,
elements that actually make up the skeleton of the international economy seems to
have correlated variables. These variables seems to have been correlated with each
other in numerous combinations and their correlation is what makes the market
fluctuate. The volatility of the global market becomes more apparent in times of
recessionwhen the correlation between variables like stocks, bonds, US dollar,
Euro, gold and oil becomes more apparent. Therefore, it is of paramount importance
that these correlated variables should be studied with a very keen eye. Since the link
between currencies, commodities, stocks an bonds runs very deep, change in any one
of them seems to have a profound impact on the rest hence changing the face of the
market.
Background:
One way to describe the correlation between the major assets of the international trade
is that it should be seen as what compels the market that create dynamics between
these variables. During long periods of prosperity and financial stability, players of
the international trade ease up about the risk of loss either through a systematic
underestimation of those risks, or a decline in their risk assessment tactics due to
increasing wealth, or both. This aversion to the idea of risk and keeping that period
of prosperity continuous makes the investors greedy, and
Cookie Experiment
When you bake cookies, a thought that might come to mind is When a recipe has
2 eggs the cookie rises more, but when a recipe has 1 egg the cookie might stay the
same height. Eggs are important in a cookie recipe, they provide protein and fat.
There have been many experiments done about the height of cookies when the
number of eggs are changed. Most commonly, a cookie recipe will have only 1 egg
and let other substances do the heavy lifting. This experiment will test whether the
amount of eggs in a cookie recipe affect how high the cookie rises. There has been
another similar experiment done by Stella Parks, she was named America s Best

money being spent on supplies if the cookies do not turn out right. Second, if the
cookies were meant to be sold or were for an event then the cookies would have to
be re made to perfection before being sold or brought to the event. Which in turn
would take more time away from family, friends, etc. Lastly, if my community
wanted to bake cookies to be eaten at home they would need to know how many
eggs to put in there. If too many or too little eggs are put in the cookies then they
could not be edible by their standards and could cause stress because they cannot
figure out how to perfect them. This experiment will benefit the community in many

During the warm up, the actors are encouraged to enter into a state of mind where

Billy Elliot Research Paper
Transitions into new experiences and new phases of life can be problematic with
many obstacles to be overcome by the individual. Changes result in a shift of
attitudes, beliefs and values. Set during the 1984 miners strike, the film Billy Elliot
, directed by Stephen Daldry explores and challenges embedded traditional,
community and family values and beliefs about gender roles, job choices and the
way success is measured.Similarly, Gwen Harwood s poem Barn Owl , highlights
the effects of transitions in peoples lives through the rebellion of a child against her
father, as well as the dissipation of innocence and the Individual growth of the child.

Personal growth can be measured emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, culturally
or physically. Through the process of Billy s transitions he experiences emotional
and physical growth. Stephen Daldry illustrates this exploration of transitions
when Tony breaks out into a fight with Mrs Wilkinson around the kitchen table.
Shot reverse shots are employed to emphasize the separation between Mrs
Wilkinson, Billy s family and Billy. A close up of Tony and Jackie respectively
reveals to us that Tony has become the dominant one in the family. This dominance
is further reinforced as Tony asks Mrs Wilkinson, Have you any idea what we re
going through, I have been in a fucking cell all night and you coming round here

Billy, who is behind a door, which symbolises the barrier between Billy and his
family as he claims innocently and ironically, I don t want a childhood, I want to be
Ballet dancer , highlighting Billy s determination to still continue his journey to the
Royal ballet school despite the obstacle of his family. This also highlights the
personal emotional growth of Billy in his ability to confidently express his dreams
and aspirations to his family who have constantly hindered his transition throughout
the film. The parallel filming of Billy dancing aggressively to the sounds of a
Heuristics And Systematic Decision Errors
Heuristics and systematic decision errors are made even in extremely large or
important purchases. A year ago, my sister and her husband moved to Houston from
New York City and decided to purchase their first house. Having never lived in
Houston, or purchased a house, they had very little inherent knowledge about the
local real estate market or experience with what their lifestyle was going to be. Their
decisions therefore would be based almost entirely on published data and first hand
house visits.
Jennifer and Jimmy are both medical doctors, eminently rational and meticulous
about their finances, their careers, and life planning. When deciding which medical
residency programs to apply to, a 100 row spreadsheet was constructed, detailing and
weighting each desirability factor. They trusted the same analytical approach with
their house purchase decision; for the purposes of this discussion I ve condensed
their table as follows:
House A
House B
Commute Time
45 minutes
10 minutes
Quality of Space
High
Medium
Relative Price
200,000
200,000
While Jennifer and Jimmy recognized that the daily Commute Time was an important
attribute, it ended up being severely underweighted in their final decision. Having
just moved from New York City, neither had ever dealt with traffic or extended
highway driving on a regular basis. While it was obvious that a 10 minute commute
is quantitatively better than a 45 minute one, the qualitative difference to happiness
and lifestyle was very hard for
Which Provides A More Accurate View of the Global
Economy
According to dependency theory, governance of the global economy has been
marked by asymmetry and skewed in favour of developed countries and
multinational corporations while developing countries survive at the margins . This
essay will seek to examine the basis for this point by extracting examples from the
real world and comparing the theory with the neoliberal theory in providing a more
accurate view of the global economy. In defining the global economy, there are a few
key ideas that one could adopt including dependency theory and neoliberal theory. In
the age of globalization, the global economy is conditioned by the innovation and
production of manufactured goods. One of the backwashes of capitalism is the birth

The NIEO aims at creating a balance and just trade system between countries in
order to promote economic advancement and social progress of all people (UN

Prebisch states that international exploitation of trade is caused by the trade
policies of the core states. International economic policies favour countries in power
subsequently resulting in the unfair exchange of trade (Craig, 2005). Therefore,
trade barriers such as tariffs and taxes should be implemented so that a certain
amount of protectionism could be applied to the local market so that the level of
imported goods could be balanced off with the number of export together with local

recently Canada saw significant drop in their local manufacturing of snow

My Goals Upon Entering Graduate School
The overarching goal I hope to achieve from pursuing a degree in Industrial
/Organizational psychology is to gain experience from conducting research and
develop an in depth understanding of the field of I/O psychology. Completing a
Master s of Applied Science in Industrial/Organizational psychology at the University
of Waterloo will allow me to reach this goal as I know that researchis an important
aspect of the program. Additionally, the Master s of Applied Science will prepare me
to either pursue a PhD or enter the workforce. Therefore, my goals upon entering
graduate schoolis to gain experience in research, teaching, and consulting to better
prepare me for whatever may come my way after completing a Master s of Applied
Science. My previous experience in research has demonstrated that I have the
ambition to achieve all of these goals, and I know that a Master s of Applied
Science in I/O psychology at the University of Waterloo will guide and challenge
me to achieve these goals. Throughout my Master s degree my objective is to work
with people and conduct impactful research. I enjoy collaborating and learning
from others which will allow for personal development and well rounded learning. I
also aspire to work with people who share the same passion as I do in I/O
psychology. Finally, I am determined to pursue meaningful research because it is of
utmost importance to me that the research I conduct makes an impact in the research
field and in the workplace. I am
Improving Memory Essay example
Memory is a very important tool to our everyday lives. Without memory, we would
not be able to function very productively. You can look at someone suffering with
Alzheimer s disease and see the effects of the inability to make new memories, as
well as lost and confused memory. According to what I have read in the textbook, the
foundation of our speech and learning is our memory.
In general, there are three types of memory: sensory memory, short term memory and
long term memory. Sensory memory, by definition, is the preservation of information
in its original sensory form, for a fraction of a second. This means that when you
smell, touch and/or see anything, the impression of the occurrence will last for a
couple of moments. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interference of other material also plays a role in the short term forgetfulness. It is
hard for the brain to focus on committing more than one thing memory at a time. The
old stuff is bumped out by the new stuff, which is a big contributor to why you
forget. Our short term memory seems to have a limited amount of places to hold this
temporary data. This is an area that has been studied a lot. There are different theories
about how much we actually retain before it is pushed out by the next thought.
Chunking makes remembering easier as well. It involves grouping information into
familiar stimuli so it can be stored as a single unit. This takes up fewer memory slots
and makes remembering smoother. The chunks are effective when they are
associated with something familiar to the individual. This ties into the long term
memory because that is where you draw the familiarity.
Long term memory is presumably unlimited storage that holds information for long
periods. This could be a large amount of time. This information comes from the short
term memory. Whenever you make a connection to the data, it moves into this forever
storage. Uninterrupted repetition and the meaningful association help to make this
possible; I use this to help me. I believe, in order to prevent forgetting, you would
need to recall the stored information constantly. For example, if it is a test you are
studying for, you might want to
American Dream Impact On Society Essay
The American Dream is most impacted by society. Society is corrupted because of
the decisions people in power make, as well the bad decisions people make. When
people in power, like politicians, or just normal people make bad decisions it could
have a good or bad toll on the people around them. That toll could affect further
decisions that people make. The people around you and the things they say also
have an impact on society. What someone says to another person or group of
people could affect those people greatly. For example, when a politician says
something about another country and how they choose to do things that could
affect those living in that country as well as the way people from other places.
People not treating everyone equally. Inequality is a big deal, and it has been for a
long time. From old time slavery to modern time gender inequality. Nowadays, some
politicians are trying to put people against each other and for what the world is going
through now, that s not what we need. The people around you have an effect on
everyone. Everything that the people around you say could have an impact on
someone s everyday life. So when politicians say something about another country
and the way they do things, think about the effect that has on their society. Ronald
Reagans American Dream is to live in a God blessed country, be free, be able to be
creative, and to live in harmony. So when he went to Moscow and saw the way that
the people were being treated when they

Juveniles and the Death Penalty
Today, minors are using their age as a shield against capital punishment.
Adolescents believe that since they are not eighteen they will not be punished for
the crimes they commit. The death penalty is appropriate for juveniles in certain
circumstances, such as murder and brutal crimes that are considered capital
offenses. The rate at which the death penalty is carried out, as well as inconstancies
in sentencing does not make it a deterrent. There should not be an age limit in all
capital offenses for those who could face the death penalty. Adolescents should know
what he or she are doing is wrong, and is a crime. An age limits does ... Show more

The vote was 5 3, Justice Kentucky not participating, and the fifth vote was cast by
Justice O Connor, who concurred only because Oklahoma capital punishment law
specified no minimum age. In Stanford, O Connor and Kennedy supported the
death penalty for defendants who were 16 or 17 years old at the time of the crime,
and the four justices who had written the lead opinion in Thompson dissented
(Latzer, Barry). Since juveniles are beginning to get more violent in their acts,
should the age be lowered? If a look is taken at the juvenile criminal statistics today
and compare to twenty years ago, a dramatic decrease would be seen in violent
crime and an increased use of death penalty sentences. For example, Professor Victor
Strieb stated juveniles are one to two percent of all people on death row in the United
States. Throughout the history of juveniles sentenced to death, the rate has been
steady because it has fluctuated more than five percent. The history of the death
penalty for juveniles began around 1642 with the execution of Thomas Graunger.
Thomas Graunger was executed in Plymouth Colony Massachusetts for a crime he
committed when he was sixteen years old. He was the first recorded juvenile in what
for offenses committed under the age of eighteen (Randa, Laura E.). There were 343
executions of juveniles before the Supreme Court repealed the death penalty.
Therefore, what keeps the juvenile from assuming the responsibilities for his
Argumentative Essay On Saints Row
Ironically enough for a game that revels in its criminal activity, Saints Row stole
most of its ideas from the Grand Theft Auto series. Admittedly, if you are going to
imitate a game you can do far worse than GTA. Saints Row however goes the extra
mile and provides players with a very enjoyable gameplay experience that goes
beyond merely cloning the most popular aspects of GTA. The game opens with
some extensive customization options where you get to create your inner gangster.
You are then promptly chucked into the middle of crossfire between rival gangs.

GTA clone would be complete without a wealth of radio stations and Saints Row

rock to rap and reggae plus a hilarious talk show one. Overall, I would say that the

Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
Overview
In Malcolm Gladwell s novel Blink, the author conveys a message on the
significance and power of our snap judgements and split second decisions. He
explains the influential strength of our subconscious that controls our intuitions
and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These daily actions occur
via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, thin slicing .
Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth
details about a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell
explains, If he [researcher John Gottman] analyzes an hour of a husband and wife
talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that couple will still be
married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success
rate is around 90 percent. From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on
how to exploit these instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his
words, to think without thinking . However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of
thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by fatal police shootings conducted
by officers who ve misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo s case. Additionally,
thin slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. Overall, Gladwell
provides his readers with a wholesome perspective on thin slicing before stating his
opinion on the benefits and successes of utilizing our natural human intuitions to live

The Importance Of Heroism In Beowulf
Beowulf is a classic, epic story which theme focuses on good versus evil, Beowulf is
essentially a heathen poem (Bodek) said F.A Blackburn because it consists of
elements drawn from Anglo Saxons culture before they were converted to Christians.
It is tidily divided into three parts; The battle with Grendel, The battle with Grendel s
mother and the battle with the Dragon. The poem deals with Germanic forebears, the
Danes, the Geats and the Swedes. This story features a super strong warrior Beowulf
from the Geatland who help protect the people from the evils of the land with his
super strength and God s will. He fights for personal honor, but he s committed to
the service of his people. Beowulf s pride and self adoration almost nullify his... Show

An evidence of Pagan religion was their mode of ensuring prosperity in a material
thing. For example, a farmer could pray or offer sacrifices to the Chief God for an
affluent harvest.
The impact of religion on Beowulf support the fact that the story isn t just about an
epic hero and his ordeals but the writer s goal to pass a religious message through
the hero for efficient relatability. Pagan history, culture, myth, and folktales are
utilized to point out Christian morals; these morals include, God is the protector of
mankind, man possesses the gift of life thanks to God, true powers lies with God,
heaven is the utmost abode of man etc. This buttresses the fact that he used religious
overlay to convey a message to the audience. Why? He aims at achieving easy
assimilation, relativity and effective communication to the intended audience.
Scholars believe that a monk (Christian) who lived during Anglo Saxon times and in
the Anglo Saxon s community was trying to reach out to the people. He probably
wants to preach the gospel and he needed a medium to communicate with the people.
It could be said that religion is the purpose of this story, in effect, opening a pathway
for religion to impact it.
About 14 Centuries ago, the Pope in Rome ordered missionaries to go convert
Anglo Saxons to Christians. Most of their place of worship were converted to
churches. Scholars believed that one of these missionaries composed Beowulf with
the purpose following the Pope s order;

Geological Hazards of Missouri Although many may not consider Missouri to be a
hot spot of geological related natural disasters, there are multiple geological hazards
which occur throughout the state. According to the Missouri Department of Natural
Resources Geological Survey Program, the hazards most often occurring in Missouri
are earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes and abandoned mines (Geologic Hazards).

Similar to a cave, a sinkhole begins by acidic water dissolving carbonate bedrock
creating an underground void. If the void grows close enough to the surface, the
structural integrity of the surface material will eventually give way and a sinkhole
is formed. These depressions can range in size from a few square yards to over
hundreds of acres. The depth of sinkholes can vary from shallow to hundreds of
feet. Although there are nearly 16,000 verified sinkholes in the state, the MGS
caution there are a great number which have not been reported or documented.
Some sinkholes in Missouri are known to be a depth greater than 100 feet though
no exact records concerning depths are maintained. Located in western Boone
County, the largest known sinkhole in Missouri covers approximately 700 acres.
If a sinkhole does occur, it is recommended that a registered geologist or
professional engineer be consulted to assist in the stabilization of the sinkhole.
Filling a sinkhole, referred to as remediation, generally consists of removing all soil
materials down to the bedrock surface and filling it with size graded material. Larger
rocks should be used first with each successive layer consisting of gradually smaller
grained material. Geotextile fabric covered by top soil will allow water

Mass Media Essay.pdf

  • 1. Mass Media Essay Writing an essay on the topic of mass media can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the vastness and complexity of the subject matter. Mass media encompasses a broad spectrum of communication channels, including television, radio, newspapers, magazines, social media, and more. Tackling such a diverse and dynamic field requires a comprehensive understanding of its historical context, technological advancements, societal impact, and ongoing developments. One of the challenges is staying updated with the rapidly evolving nature of mass media. Technologies change, new platforms emerge, and societal attitudes shift, making it crucial for the essay to reflect the most current information. Moreover, delving into the nuances of media ethics, the influence of mass media on public opinion, and the interplay between media and politics requires a nuanced and well-researched approach. Crafting a coherent and persuasive argument also poses its own set of difficulties. It demands a delicate balance between presenting factual information, analyzing various perspectives, and offering a thoughtful synthesis of ideas. Moreover, the writer needs to navigate through the potential biases and controversies that often surround media-related issues, ensuring an objective and well-supported presentation of arguments. Another layer of complexity arises in addressing the global nature of mass media. The impact of media is not confined to a specific region or culture, making it essential to consider diverse perspectives and international dimensions. This requires extensive research and a keen awareness of the cultural, political, and economic factors that shape media landscapes worldwide. In conclusion, writing an essay on mass media demands not only a deep understanding of the subject matter but also the ability to navigate through its intricate web of complexities. It is a task that requires diligence, critical thinking, and a commitment to staying informed about the ever-changing media landscape. Nevertheless, despite its challenges, the process of exploring and dissecting the multifaceted world of mass media can be intellectually stimulating and ultimately rewarding. • 3. Urvashi And Pururavas Myths Urvashi and Pururavas is a quasi myth that depicts a story of love and passion, containing elements displaying societal perceptions of women. Quasi myths are stories with elements of a myth within them, and within the 10th Book of the Rig Veda the myth of Urvashi and Pururavas has greatly intrigued me (Sen, Aditi). The first half of this paper will present my analysis for deciding to use the story of Urvashi and Pururavas, while the second half of this paper will outline my rational for my story book interpretation of the story. Most myths, especially those of religious standing, in my perception, present an outlook into the lives and society of those creating a myth. Myths can be a representation of social hierarchies and an explanation for societal rules and biases. The depiction into society that I have been most interested in, within the quasi myth of Urvashi Pururavas, is that of how women are viewed and the standards to which women are held. Urvashi is presented as an individual of value to Pururavas due to her beauty. She is considered worthy of marriage, not due to her character or intelligence or values, but the perception of her external worth. It is interesting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intent was to use significant images and a small description to convey a beautiful message, that symbolizes the rise and demise of Pururavas through Urvashi. Representing Pururavas was images of Ranveer Singh, to display a strong young man, who might have been, in my opinion, the epitome of good looking. In order to present a delicate and sensual woman of the era of the Rig Veda, I used images of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from Devdas and Nandana Sen. I hoped to create something aesthetically pleasing that portrayed the beauty of all of the characters and represents core elements of importance that I viewed within the
  • 4. Benefits Of Interactive Data To Improve Financial Reporting Answer: It is reasonable to exempt small companies with revenue under $250 million from filing in XBRL format for a short period (3 5 years) for the cost of preparation, but it is not a good idea to implement this exemption for long time. 1) XBRL has significant benefits for the transparency improvement of financial report. As Du and Vasarhelyi et al., (2013) stated, there has been over one decade of studies and evaluations on Internet facilitated financial reporting in general and XBRL in particular (Ashbaugh et al. 1999; Debreceny et al. 2002; Ettredge et al. 2002; Debreceny et al. 2005; Kelton and Yang 2008; Debreceny et al. 2010). These studies explored, advocated, and generally supported the idea of using the Internet to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Potential users include regulators, accountants, banks, analysts, investors, management, and any other member of the financial information supply chain. The XBRL report can offer a platform to use an interactive language to communicate with each other informatively. The third benefit is the XBRL process and savings. Based on the old financial reporting system, company information is hosted on their website in PDF or HTML format, and this information is costly to retrieve, manipulate and utilize by other interested and concerned parties. Companies spend billions of dollars on this method of data presentation and transfer. Implementation of XBRL will result in cost savings and the data will be cheaper, better, and faster. 2) The cost of XBRL report for small companies The main reason for this exemption is the cost to prepare and file the XBRL report. But, as the two papers mentioned in the question argued, A recent study of smaller filers by the AICPA showed that the median cost to file in XBRL in the US for the companies that would be covered by the exemption is USD $8000 annually, covering the detailed tagging of 3 quarterly financial statements and 1 annual financial statement, so it s fair to say that the savings claims by the proposal s supporters are somewhat overblown. It is not too much. So, in my opinion, some potential costs would happen in this time, but these costs would decrease step by step. The first cost is the psychological cost for small

About 30% of students lose their lives to shootings in Chicago . Many teen s aren t expected to live to see another day, because so many teen s are losing their lives from gun shots. To decrease the death rate of young adults in Chicago,IL the city came up with a summer job program. This program was created to give jobs to teens that lived in poverty stricken neighborhoods. The outcome of this program was successful. This program cuts down youth violence and helped keep troubled teens on the streets of Chicago. Teen violence doesn t only affect teen s and other people, but it affects the community too. In communities with high rates of youth violence it brings concern to the community by teen gangs, burglary, drugs, and racial divisions. Gang violence puts the community in a panic. The community is left on edge to deal with vandalism, the production of drugs, and drug sales. With high rates of youth violence the community has higher health cost due to more emergency visits. In addition, property values decrease over time from teen violence in the area the neighborhood. Even social services are

  • 9. Contributions Of Charles Darwin Charles Darwin was an intelligent man. He didn t exactly succeed in the school institution even though his family was wealthy, they didn t help Darwin with his courses in college. Dr. Robert Darwin, Darwin s father sent him to medical school at Edinburg but unfortunately, Darwin flunked out and was sent to Cambridge University for ministry. At Cambridge his professor, John Henslow took Darwin scientific studies seriously and introduced him to influential people like Captain Robert Fitzroy of the royal navy. Darwin embarked on the HMS Beagle as Fitzroy s naturalist unpaid companion. The caption was given two missions, completed a survey of the southern coast of South American and to obtain more accurate fixes of longitudes by using new instruments. Darwin plans were to observe and collect specimens on the voyage. One of Darwin s most significant discoveries was his discovery of the finches located on the GalГЎpagos Islands. The finches were a major key to Darwin s theory of natural selection. Traveling in the HMS Beagle also gave Charles Darwinthe idea of the theory of evolution and natural selection. Darwin s voyage on the beagle was single handed the most important and defining moment of his career. The beagle was a navy vessel which carried approximately 75 individuals. Darwin had a different position on the ship as his counterparts. His father paid his way on the beagle which gave him perks that his fellow naturalist did not have (Janice c

  • 12. Bernie Madoff s Ponzi Scheme Fraud Assessment A Ponzi scheme is an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors (Ponzi Schemes 2013). Ponzi schemes enable fraudsters to approach victims and solicit funds from them by guaranteeing that their low risk investments will yield high rates of return. In return, investors receive dividends paid by the fraudster from the funds solicited from newer victims. The attraction of new victims enables the fraudster to make dividend payments to his or her older investors, which stimulates the legitimacy of the investment company. A prime example of a Ponzi scheme is Bernie Madoff and Bernie L. Madoff Investment Securities. Over a period of twenty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like other fraudsters, Ponzi schemers require a financial pressure not solvable by legal means as motivation to commit fraud. Financial pressures for Ponzi schemers range anywhere from maintaining a luxurious lifestyle to simply improving wealth. Scott Rothstein stole $1.4 billion from Florida residents to compensate his extravagant lifestyle. Opportunity for fraud occurs when their current position enables them to commit fraud and they are able to keep the illegimate activities hidden. Most Ponzi schemers are in positions that allow them to knowledgably commit fraud. Investment brokers are not the only individuals who commit Ponzi schemes. Gerald Payne was a church pastor who stole $20 million and deposited funds under the $10,000 limit into personal bank accounts. When the crime is complete, fraudsters justify to themselves why it is acceptable. • 13. A Narrative Of Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs. Mary... From the import and enslavement of Africans to the mass movement and genocide of a multitude of Native peoples, the captivity and enslavement of these peoples are among the worst travesties in the history of the United States of America. In Mary Rowlandson s A Narrative of Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, she writes autobiographically about the Native American raid on her village, the capture of herself and others including her children and other relatives, the way she was treated by her captors, and her eventual release back into English custody. Next, we have excerpts from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass. Douglass s account of his life as a slave in the American south showed how horrendous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass says that the slaves on Mr. Lloyd s plantation were only allotted a bushel of corn meal and eight pounds of either pork or fish for the entire year (1175). To start off, a starved, impoverished and enslaved people will never have the strength to fight back. Also, even though physical abuse is enough to keep a population in control, starvation is probably one the best controls. Without a proper diet, someone cannot function at their fullest mental capacity nor can they be of any resistance to their masters. Most importantly, if they are starved, they will not have the energy or capability of running away. In comparison, Mary Rowlandson wrote in her biography A Narrative of the Captivity and Capture of Mary Rowlandson that the Natives did not give her anything but a few drinks of cold water for four nights (272). Except for a few exceptions during her captivity, Rowlandson claims that she was practically starved for the entirety of her bondage save for a few handful of nuts and other naturally occurring nourishment she could find. Again, we find that a starved person is easier to control and less likely to run due to the physical weakness brought on by starvation. The state of constant starvation is something that we as a people do not have the misfortune to understand. However, their captors must be bone chillingly cruel to be able to starve their captives to the point that they did and not have any
  • 14. Foreshadowing In The Inspector Calls The story, The Inspector Calls is set in the year 1912, in the Pre World War I Era in a fictional place called Brumley, an industrial city in the north Midlands , which is most likely located in England due to the author being an English playwright, and the content of the play analysis the English society and hierarchy. Stryker possessed a pond on his estate which he had taken special interest to because of the wild ducks that would congregate there. Stryker was amazed at the sight of the ducks and greatly enjoyed watching them from his porch. Unfortunately, his enjoyment was short lived as he quickly discovered another creature also had put down roots in his pond: the snapping turtle. The snapping turtles quickly became a menace to Stryker s enjoyment of his property as they would continually latch onto all the young wild ducklings, drown them under the pond, and eat them. • 17. What is Organizational Theory Organizational Theories Organizational theory deals with the study of the interaction of an organization with its environment. Emphasis on organizational theories has over time changed from the stiff and hierarchical structures, widespread during the industrial era to more broader and flexible structures prevalent in the modern, technological era. In this regard, organizational theories have attracted serious attention. This post focuses on three organizational theories of the 20th century and if or not they are applicable in the 21st century integrating organizational culture, structures, leadership and enabling technologies. These are classical organizational theory, human relation theory, and contingency theory. Classical Organizational Theory Classical organizational theory originated in the first half of the 20th century. This theory concentrated on formal organizations and ideas to increase efficiency in their management. This theory merged together the scientific, bureaucratic and administrative theories. Relative to structure, this theory was constructed on a hierarchical structure dividing workers based on functionality with various reporting paths on every working unit. That is, workers report to their respective manager(s) for their tasks as well as disciplinary matters. This theory puts the manager/owner of the organization in total control over the workers. Furthermore, this theory employed enabling technologies to increase efficiency. The classical

Canada s unique history and geography has contributed to Canada s national identity, however many people still question, what does it means to be Canadian? Thus a national identity crisis occurs, and although ethnicity and diversity is apart of Canadian identity, it also challenges it by having many differences with one another. • 19. Wicca Invocation The word invoke, as defined by Merriam Webster, means to petition for help, to call forth or summon, or to solicit through an earnest request. Its first use occurred in the 15th century. The word invoke is from Middle English envoken from the Middle French very invoquer. This originated with the Latin verb invocare, which is composed of the root vocare meaning to call , and can be found in such words as voice and vocation. This is the same as that found in the word envoke. The Latin word invocare means to call upon, or implore. When used as part of the noun invocation, the word means to petition (to God or a god) for aid or comfort , such as a prayer, but can also mean a summoning of evil spirits . I believe all of these definitions are applicable to the use of the word in Wicca. On its most basic level, invoking is calling something within yourself. When this is done, it is also a way of petitioning a deity for assistance. And while it is possible to summon evil spirits, it is the summoning of benign spirits, elements, entities and deities that form the basis for invoking within the Wiccan faith. It is calling them within yourself to work with the combined energy. In the Wiccan practice, the process of invocation is a powerful tool and is a form of voluntary possession. Collier makes the argument that while much of LDCs are becoming wealthier, this isn t the case in Africa and Central Asia who is stuck due to four development traps. Seventy percent of the bottom billion is in Africa. According to Collier, the first trap is the conflict trap. He claims that 73% in the bottom billion are in or have been in a war like conflict, almost always an internal civil war. Countries with high rates of poverty are more likely to break out in civil war and the war itself lowers incomes, therefore perpetuating the problem. This is partly due to the large amount of available young men who are out of work and ready for a rebellion and due to the weakness of the state, this becomes quite easy. The longer a country is at war, more actors become involved due to the potential of profiting of it. A civil war also increases the risk of future conflicts and according to Collier it is development in reverse. Economic loss and disease do not stop when the fighting does. Furthermore, during conflict, political rights disappear and almost all of the world s hard drugs come from these areas due to little law enforcement. Low income, slow growth, and commodity export dependence make up the top three attributes of a high civil war risk country, which is hard to live down after it begins, since

With this, one can determine the type of bonds in a solution relative to the other solutions as well as relative to the developer. There are three steps to the process of Thin Layer Chromatography; spotting, development (mobile phase), and visualization. During the spotting process solution(s) is/are dabbed with a capillary tube on the origin line of the TLC sheet to the required amount to give a starting point. TLC sheets have a polar silica gel on them which will react with the dabbed solution(s). The more polar the solution the more it will react with the polar silica gel. Once placed in the developer tank the mobile phase begins, as the somewhat polar developer (less polar than the silica gel) will move up the the TLC sheet through capillary action. The amino acids that are more hydrophobic will move along with the developer upward and away from the silica gel whereas the more hydrophilic amino acids will be more attracted to the polar silica and will move less than hydrophobic amino acids which are more attracted to the mobile phase caused by the developer. The solvent front is determined when the developer has almost reached to top of the TLC sheet. It is important to avoid it reaching to top, because it can cause a skew in data if allowed. The amino acids that are first to reach the top will sit at the top while the other less hydrophobic amino acids will get closer causing a skewed perspective in polarities between the amino acids at the top and the rest. After this the TLC sheet is removed, the solvent front is drawn, and the sheet now needs to dry. The next step in the development phase is helpful when identifying differences in amino acids. The TLC sheet is sprayed with ninhydrin which catabolizes the amino acids, then

With the markets being built rapidly and crashing down in the other instant, elements that actually make up the skeleton of the international economy seems to have correlated variables. These variables seems to have been correlated with each other in numerous combinations and their correlation is what makes the market fluctuate. The volatility of the global market becomes more apparent in times of recessionwhen the correlation between variables like stocks, bonds, US dollar, Euro, gold and oil becomes more apparent. You can look at someone suffering with Alzheimer s disease and see the effects of the inability to make new memories, as well as lost and confused memory. According to what I have read in the textbook, the foundation of our speech and learning is our memory. In general, there are three types of memory: sensory memory, short term memory and long term memory. Sensory memory, by definition, is the preservation of information in its original sensory form, for a fraction of a second. This means that when you smell, touch and/or see anything, the impression of the occurrence will last for a couple of moments. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interference of other material also plays a role in the short term forgetfulness. It is hard for the brain to focus on committing more than one thing memory at a time. The old stuff is bumped out by the new stuff, which is a big contributor to why you forget. Our short term memory seems to have a limited amount of places to hold this temporary data. This is an area that has been studied a lot. There are different theories about how much we actually retain before it is pushed out by the next thought. Chunking makes remembering easier as well. It involves grouping information into familiar stimuli so it can be stored as a single unit. This takes up fewer memory slots and makes remembering smoother. The chunks are effective when they are associated with something familiar to the individual. This ties into the long term memory because that is where you draw the familiarity. Long term memory is presumably unlimited storage that holds information for long periods. This could be a large amount of time. This information comes from the short term memory. Whenever you make a connection to the data, it moves into this forever storage. Uninterrupted repetition and the meaningful association help to make this possible; I use this to help me. I believe, in order to prevent forgetting, you would need to recall the stored information constantly. For example, if it is a test you are studying for, you might want to

Society is corrupted because of the decisions people in power make, as well the bad decisions people make. When people in power, like politicians, or just normal people make bad decisions it could have a good or bad toll on the people around them. That toll could affect further decisions that people make. The people around you and the things they say also have an impact on society. What someone says to another person or group of people could affect those people greatly. For example, when a politician says something about another country and how they choose to do things that could affect those living in that country as well as the way people from other places. Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario.
