This was a 5 minute presentation I did for a Stockholm Designers meetup. It ran through what ethics are, where evil comes from and how design works as a source of ethics in companies.
Technology has grown tremendously over time. Early technology like the typewriter from 1714 had limitations like lacking backspace, autocorrect, and storage. It required printing files. In contrast, modern technology like MS Word allows backing up, editing, and storing files online without printing. It has helped speed up work and make projects easier. Technology has also advanced entertainment media from silent films to animated cartoons. Overall, technology has helped streamline daily life tasks through online calendars, cell phones, and education apps, making schedules easier to coordinate and share information.
Ange, a recent graphic design graduate, is applying for many jobs but finds it difficult to keep track of all the details in an Excel sheet. She gets frustrated with the process. The document then discusses developing a browser extension app called App.Ly to help job seekers easily track and manage their various job applications without interruptions. It provides an overview of the target users, research on existing solutions, ideas for prototyping, and next steps to create the full browser extension.

The document discusses the pitfalls of multitasking and taking on too many tasks. It notes that having too many tasks on one's workload can cause a loss of focus, create a form of procrastination, and result in lower quality work. It also cautions about distractions from technology if tools are not used properly, and advises considering the importance, costs and risks of new tasks. The document concludes by identifying potential time wasters like agreeing to every request and losing priorities, and notes that working under pressure does not actually increase productivity but can decrease quality and lead to addiction to adrenaline.
The document discusses an incremental approach to designing web applications without extensive planning. It argues that design is a series of decisions rather than the production of artifacts like documentation. An agile approach of sketching, sharing, repeating and documenting patterns as you build allows you to create and learn faster than planning extensively up front. Mistakes along the way are part of the process. Storytelling is a better process than strict planning as it allows inspiration and goals to emerge through small iterative steps rather than lengthy deliberation. The key is to enjoy the journey of incremental progress rather than focusing on planning.

Building Products At Amazon with Customer ObsessionKintan Brahmbhatt
1. Amazon Music's approach to building products focuses on simplifying the user experience by reducing friction, inventing products that map to existing human behaviors, and working backwards from the customer perspective.
2. Some examples of how Amazon Music reduced friction included auto-downloading recommended music for offline listening and providing an "offline" home screen experience on mobile.
3. When inventing new products, Amazon looked for ways to map features to common requests like playing music, adding items to shopping lists, or setting timers directly through natural language requests to Alexa.
4. The working backwards approach involves starting with the customer viewpoint and intent, writing narratives from their perspective, and considering all stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
The document summarizes the development and rollout of the iNorthampton mobile app by the University of Northampton. It discusses the reasons for creating a mobile app, the challenges in development, metrics on downloads and user feedback. Next steps mentioned include ongoing improvements to the app and its features.

A job search is a marketing campaign. And with any marketing campaign, the right things need to be done using the right tools, consistently.
There is a big difference between being busy and being productive. Busy is a trap.
Too many people get caught up in a job search staying busy doing the wrong things with the wrong tools and doing them erratically. Not only is this ineffective, it leads to frustration and an unnecessarily lengthy job search.
Ed Andriessen and Kevin Lewis, Business Marketing experts will show you what how to plan and prepare a “marketing plan” for your job search that schedules the right things consistently for success.
This presentation will cover:
• Why people don’t manage their time and tasks effectively?
• What are the tasks that provide the biggest “bang for the buck” and what tasks are “busy work”
• What job search strategies work best for you?
• How many hours a day and how many days a week should I be spending on my job search?
• How do I keep track of my plan?
This document discusses how employee distraction from personal mobile devices and internet use is hurting business profits. It notes that studies show even brief distractions can double the chances of mistakes. The average person checks their phone 150 times a day and spends over 7 hours per month on Facebook alone during work hours. The document argues that employees are essentially stealing company time when they engage in non-work activities while on the clock. It advises business owners to set clear policies on appropriate device use and consider implementing content filtering to limit distractions and improve productivity.
This document provides 10 time management strategies to help take control of your day. These include creating a daily to-do list, writing down all follow-up items, carrying unfinished work to the next day's list, keeping track of due dates with both short and long-term reminders, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, regularly purging unnecessary files, and backing up and deleting older online files. The strategies are based on an article about improving time management.
Beth Kanter presented on linking self-care and wellbeing to impact in nonprofits. She discussed how burnout can sneak up on nonprofit professionals and provided tips for self-care, including protecting sleep, walking more, organizing phones to avoid addiction, and scheduling solo work time. Kanter emphasized that wellbeing needs to be embedded in an organization's culture through strategies like listening to employees, creating spaces for conversation, and leveraging staff champions. When implemented properly, a culture of wellbeing can benefit an organization through talent retention, reduced costs, and increased productivity.

When it comes to investing in diversity, 71% of talent professionals
report that achieving gender parity* at their company is a
top priority.1 And while there is a long way to go to get there, a
thoughtful, data-driven recruiting strategy can help you make
meaningful gains toward that goal.
To understand how gender impacts the candidate journey, we
analyzed LinkedIn data on billions of interactions between
companies and candidates from job applications to recruiter
outreach and hires. The results show that while women and men
explore opportunities similarly, there’s a clear gap in how they apply
to jobs — and in how companies recruit them.
The good news is that this data is actionable. This report will help
you improve every step of the job seeker journey on LinkedIn, from
how you position your employer brand and interact with candidates,
to benchmarking your gender diversity hiring goals against your
industry. Your push for #BalanceForBetter can start today.
In this edition of the Quarterly Product Release Webinar, LinkedIn's product experts give you an in-depth look at the New Recruiter & Jobs.
