Essay about Not Really The Working Poor in Nickel and Dimed
Barbara Ehrenreich would make a bad representative of the working poor because she lacks three
major things that a woman of that class would actually possess. Ehrenreich doesn t meet the true
qualifications of a working class woman: she lacks the background, she lacks respect of the money she
earns, and she lacks certain personal or social qualities that ordinarily are possessed by the working
poor.
Ehrenreich is part of the upper middle class; she is privileged to have a job in which she makes money
by sitting at her desk and writing (E 2). She has never considered herself one of the working poor
before this experiment, even though she explains, the low wage way of life had never been many
degrees of separation away (E ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it turns out, the mere fact of having a unit to myself makes me an aristocrat... (E 70). She has
enough money to stay in her own place while almost every other person she speaks of is living with
another person. That other person isn t just another body, it s another contributing wage. [My
coworkers] live with spouses or grown children or they have other jobs in addition to this one (E 178).
The wear and tear of simply having to deal with relationships and to live with another person, not
always just a spouse or family member, but sometimes a friend or simply a coworker, is something
Ehrenreich does not have to endure.
The second trait that I find Ehrenreich lacks is a certain respect of money that one of the working class
would possess. One of the first examples I saw of this was when she bought her uniform pants in
Florida for Jerry s. Then there is the $30 I had to spend on the regulation tan slacks worn by Jerry s
servers a setback it could take weeks to absorb (E 39). This foolish decision on buying pants at $30 is
not something a working poor woman would do. Alyssa at Wal Mart proves this: That afternoon,
Alyssa... had come by ladies to inquire about a polo shirt that had been clearanced at $7. Was there
any chance it might fall still further? (E 159). I also see that she is rather careless with her money
when she explains her situation in

Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination
According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste
time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social
architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees
and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form
enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful
incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives
to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both
support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command.
Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning
control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. Ensuring each stage in the production,
processing, and marketing of a product is appropriately managed and interrelated to the next, so that
decisions about what to produce, and how much, are communicated as efficiently as possible from the
consumer to the producer (Vertical coordination. (n.d.). Retrieved March 12, 2016, from

Lateral forms are less formal and more flexible than authority systems and rules (Bolman, L. G., Deal,
T. E. (2013). Reframing organizations: Artistry, choice, and leadership (5th ed.). San Francisco, CA:

player but there a team captions in place for defense and offense. Although lateral is more relaxed

Father In Huckleberry Finn
Huckleberry (Huck) Finn, the main character in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, had lacked the
important person that every young boy needs, a father. Huck s biological father was not a prominent
person in his life, he abandoned Huck so he could carelessly drink any alcohol he could get his hands
on. When he finally tried to be in Huck s life he kidnapped him, and only came back around because
the word of Huck now having a great quantity of money meant he would have an endless supply of
liquor. Knowing the scarcity of Huck s father in his life, it is clear that Huck needed an individual to
take him under their wing and teach him lessons about life and the world he lives in. Throughout the

down the river, because Jim knew that he was Huck s dad and Huck cared about him regardless of
how he treated him. Jim does not protect Huck directly all the time, some of the times Jim protected
Huck was by helping keep the other people in Huck s life safe. One of the times Jim did this was when
Tom, Huck s friend was shot and the doctor couldn t help Tom all by himself. I got to have help,

This case describes the growth of a medium sized New Zealand winery Coopers Creek. It is concerned
with the changing collaborative arrangements employed by Coopers Creek to service domestic and
international markets since its inception. These changes are set against the background of a small,
rapidly internationalising industry within a global market environment. Readers are encouraged to

Common Core State Standards Analysis
The Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare
students for college, career, and life, these standards clearly show what students are likely to learn at
each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can comprehend and provide support for the
students learning. It is stated that, these standards set grade specific goals, they do not express how the
standards should be taught or which resources should be used to support students . Many states and
local districts identify that there will need to be a variety of backings in place to confirm that all
students, (including those with special needs and English language learners), can master the standards
(Common Core State Standards Initiative).

The representation that the now common standards is supposed to reassure not only the teachers, but
that each and every student can prosper in an economy and population that is developing at a rapid
pace, and that will sustain throughout their lives. Several statistics show that this need to better
prepare students for college is an urgent one.
One of the most imperative objectives of the Common Core State Standards is that it gives the needed
information and assistances essential to thrive while in undergrad and or graduate school, profession,
and life. In order to decide and or see if the standards meet this objective was determined with relating
them to the best state ethics, observing them in affiliation to formerly established college and career
willingness standards, and having them revised by postsecondary teachers who teach entry level
courses (Conley, D. 2014). The academic impact will help to prepare students for college and post
secondary education and or jobs. The new standards gives the teachers a chance, to measure each
students growth during the course of the academic year, and gives assurance that they are on their way
into future, that paves the way for their academic life, to be a success while in college and when they

In Addition To Saving And Bequest Channels, The Proposed
In addition to saving and bequest channels, the proposed model in this paper identifies two additional
channel of child labor. These are heterogeneity in child s ability, which causes heterogeneity in the
cost of education, and differential future expectation of parents depending on their socio economic
background. I attempt to capture these four channels using a number of variables. For saving, I use
income of household head and for bequest, I use whether the household owns any house. Here income
of household head may be under reported or may have some types of measurement errors, so, we use
several other variables to instrument it. Ownership of a house is used to capture bequest as housing
price is very high almost across the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, the socio economic group in which the household head belongs to is also crucial in forming
household head s expectation. Thus, I use household head s gender ($Head_female$), Household head
s sector of employment ($Sector$), religion of household head ($Religion$), and the location of
household ($Urban$). Using these variables I estimate the following models: Where $y$ is child s
working hours per day, $ extbf{X}={Urban, Sector, Female, Head_literacy, Religion, House,$ $
Head_income, Head_female, Dropout_ability, Dropout_cost, Dropout_income}$, $ extbf{Z}=
{Urban, Head _sector,$ $ Female, Head _literacy, House, Land, Num _hhchld, Head _literacy,
Head_age, Dropout_ability,$ $Dropout_cost, Religion, Dropout_income, TV, Head_female}$,
$Q_{N}(eta) = g_{N}(eta) W_{N}g_{N}(eta)$, $g_{N}(eta)=frac{1}{N} sum_{i=1}^{N}Z
epsilon$, and $W$ is a $N imes N$ positive semi definite matrix. In addition, I also estimate logit and
probit model of child labor, where I attempt to estimate the probabilities of being a child labor with
respect to the variables mentioned above. Results of these models are shown in the following table:
In the above table second column reports the OLS estimates. Dummy $Urban$ has positive

Essay on Personal Statement
I learned from the high school class I taught that two people can be looking at the same thing but each
see something very different. The teacher (me) was white, privileged, and coddled throughout my
suburban childhood and adolescence. Most students in my class were black or brown, poor, and grew
up mostly on their own, living on the unforgiving urban street. They opened my eyes (often against
my will and certainly against my druthers ) to their alternative society. I learned that this hidden
society exists unseen and mostly ignored within the larger normal American society of laws, schools,
careers, and families; it comes to the attention of general society s gatekeepers only at points of
conflict. I tried as best as a newly minted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I became aware that most criminal law is written with little regard to the insights that can be provided
by criminologists. The middle class legislator presumes that a criminal sentence and imprisonment
will be viewed by the offender as a shameful event; the under class youth views the experience as a
badge of honor and a successful rite of passage.
During the course of my studies, I researched cases at the Orlando office of the State Attorney. One of
the Assistant State Attorneys there, who had been my official counselor and became my unofficial
mentor while I was an undergraduate at UCF, invited me to be intern. I did so in order to gain further
insight and practical experience in the counterplay between real prosecutors who deal daily with real
alleged criminals and how the insights of criminology might improve the making and applying of
criminal law. Since I have research expertise, my interning assignments included preparing pre trial
legal and background briefs for use in court. The cases I have worked on at the State Attorney s office
range from rape and murder to jaywalking.
This hands on exposure to criminal law in every day practice has led me further to a mature decision
to make a career in criminal law practice. The Stetson University College of Law has a particularly
noted reputation for trial advocacy, which is primarily why I am applying to you. In passing, my

Who Is The Perfect Island In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is set on a paradise like island. There are only
little boys on the island and the author gave them almost a perfect island to live on. They have fruit,
water, but there is no sign of civilization on the island. The boys first instinct was to group together
when the conch was blown. The children can do whatever they want because they have no authority.
They also established a leader right when the whole island was started.
Ralph is one the main characters and he is a John Locke type character. Locke is an enlightenment
thinker and one of his philosophy is he sees everyone as good person. Hobbes is another philosopher
that thinks the opposite of Locke s philosophies in a lot of places, he thinks that all people are cruel
and terrible people and need to be put in there place by a big bad ruler. Locke had an outlook on
government much like Ralph did, he wanted to have someone that could lead well and had a lot of
knowledge on how things worked. The narrator reveals but there was a stillness about Ralph that

Death Penalty Controversy
During the 11th century, the first cases of established death penalty laws were formed. During this
time period William the Conqueror initiated execution by another human being, only in the cases of a
murder trial. The extermination of one life would result in the consequences of another murder, but in
the eye s of the law; it was justified. In 1976, the United States Supreme Court reinstated the death
penalty, as of 2014 more than 1,300 people were sentenced to death. In those hundreds of deaths, 1 in

According to a study, Opponents of the death penalty believe that no one deserves to be executed.
Again, it s an honorable position, but a difficult one to defend politically in a country where the death
penalty is popular . Though used in history before, it was not until now that the death penalty was seen
as controversial and in today s society; has created so many different disputes. So much controversy
over this topic has been created even though only one third of the many countries in the world has
legally allowed the death penalty. Some example of countries and states that legally have the death
penalty would include, the United States, Iran, Kentucky, California, Missouri, and Japan. However,
many countries stand by the idea that the death penalty is a type of cruel and unusual punishment.
Some of these countries argue that the death penalty is an act against God, in a religious view on the
subject. Other simply do not have the funds and cannot keep up with the amount of money that capital
punishment requires. Over the years so many countries have abolished the death penalty and through
that other countries are either in motion of removing the death penalty from their laws or have not
sentenced an inmate to their death in many years. The movement to get rid of the death penalty is

Definitions Of Place In Timmy And Fiona William s Home
Place is defined by the incommensurable qualities that determine a certain location is unique. As
humans we develop connections to these zones and essentially establish a strong sense of place.
According to Kent Rydon A sense of place results gradually and unconsciously from inhabiting a
landscape over time, becoming familiar with its physical properties, accruing history within its
confines. To me this means that there are a plethora of definitions of sense of place; however they all
share similarities and can be fitted into different categories. Jennifer Cross, part of the Department of

A Brief Note On Trading Strategy
Trading Strategy
As a portfolio Manager, my goal was to increase the portfolio value using a trading strategy that
combines speculation and diversification (Refer figure 1 in the appendix). As a speculator, I would be
betting on the movement of the underlying asset therefore, it was essential that I diversify my holdings
to minimize the exposure. A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against the
downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were Futures
contract and Stocks. Again, the goal was to diversify within both vehicle types to protect against the
exposure (Refer figure 2 and 3).

Essay about The Canadian Exchange Rate
The Canadian Exchange Rate
The Canadian Dollar has undergone a significant depreciation over the past 10 years. The drop in
relative value of our currency has caused a great deal of consternation not only among economists but
also in the media and consequently the general public has well. Ordinary citizens experience first hand
the effects of such depreciation every time they go to our most frequented vacation spot, the United
States. While economic variables are not usually the subject of casual debate, the exchange rate trend
has even permeated our most beloved conversation topic, professional hockey. Despite the popularity
of the subject, consensus and clarity are rarities. What has happened to the value of the Canadian ...

The value of our currency is most reflected in the price of the US dollar. This paper will therefore use
the price of a US dollar in terms of Canadian dollars as the value of the Canadian dollar.
In the previous section I assumed that the currency is flexible, that is to say that the price is based on
foreign exchange market activity. It is however possible to fix the price of a currency at a particular
level. In order to accomplish this, the central bank must be willing to buy or sell the perceived
excesses of the market; i.e. the bank must buy or sell enough Canadian dollars so that the price
remains stable. If such a practice becomes unsustainable the central must change the fixed price or
move the peg. Such a system, known as the Breton Woods system was predominant in post world war
II industrialized economies. However by the Nineteen sixties Canada, Canada like many other nations,
moved to a flexible exchange rate system. It is important not to assume that because the currency is
not officially fixed at some level, that the central bank does not play a role in determining its price.
The central bank still intervenes in the market but not to hold the price at a certain level, but rather to
prevent to price from fluctuating rapidly up or down. This type of exchange rate regime is known as a
dirty float.
Over this past decade, the value of a Canadian dollar has dropped nearly 25%. In 1990, a US dollar

Mary Szybist s Incarnadine
In her Incarnadine, Mary Szybist uses the examples of the Annunciation to Mary and the visions of
Joan of Arc to explore the strong dipole of power between god and the women who choose to follow
him. A reoccuring theme that can be observed is the power that god exerts over women that are chosen
by him, and the resulting internal conflict faced or sacrifices made by these women, who lack the
power to oppose this control, but also freely choose to follow god. Szybist uses this common theme to
question the meaning of choice when there is a power imbalance.
Such a conflict can be seen in Szybist s poem Holy, in which a woman wants to be known by the holy
spirit and at the same time feels stifled by its presence within her. This is evidenced ... Show more

The jewelry adorning Joan of Arc seems to be representative of her relationship with god, since the
use of the word immoveable to describe the crown implies an unwavering power, such as god s power.
Thus, the statement by the speaker that the leaves... go through what my fingers can t may mean that
the speaker cannot access the divine like Joan of Arc could. Furthermore, there seems to be an
emphasis in these descriptions on bareness and nature, as Joan of Arc is not wearing precious jewelry
and is crowned with leaves rather than an actual crown. The fact that Joan is not wearing jewelry, is
not armed at all in the same way as the speaker, raises the question of whether she had to put a more
feminine version of herself aside in order to be god s soldier. This idea is further supported when the
speaker says, If I could I d let your hair down / and make your ears disappear (29 30), which can be
seen as wanting to end Joan s prophetic powers (her ability to hear the voice of god) and return her to
her more feminine state. Thus, similar to mother Mary, the reader gets the sense that Joan of Arc is
sacrificing an aspect of herself in order to fulfill a role that she was chosen for by

Comparing the Personalities of the Writers, Dante and Chaucer
Even though Dante and Chaucer never met, Dante having died 19 years before Chaucer was born,
Dante inadvertently became Chaucer s life long mentor. Dante s severe spirit turned out to be far more
harsh than Chaucer s nature, however Dante s protégé, Boccaccio, became one of Chaucer s greatest
inspirations. Looking back at both Dante and Chaucer s works, experts now see striking similarities in
their writing. Whether Chaucer ever meant to use Dante s materials or not, he is now closely
compared with his contrary counter part. The original purpose of this paper was to tell how closely
related Chaucer s writing was to Dante s, however, a closer look at the man, the better the picture is
that shows the blatant contrasts between these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These experiences made Dante quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for material
things is the main fault, greed which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a cessation of
strife, the establishment of universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind and allow men to
pursue the ultimate aim for which God has destined them on earth, that of exercising constantly and to
the full their distinctive quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous intellect) (Limentani,117). He
believed that life on this earth was for a purpose and had meaning to it this can be seen in the Inferno
because Dante is working to make his journey purposeful. He travels so far and tries so hard to work
his way up to heaven. Chaucer stands in contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looks to other
things as purposeful in his life. Chaucer s views of life come from a very political point of view. He
was introduced to court life while still in his teens, becoming a page to one of the kings daughter in
laws. From there he rose in status until he was promoted to the rank of esquire. Though he was
exposed to political plots and war Chaucer exhibit s a lust and compassion for life that completely
eludes Dante s works. While he was easy going and generally sympathetic to others Chaucer was
nothing of a typical idealist. While Dante searched for ways to better the world by destroying chaotic
war and hate, Chaucer was content to let the world

Community Gardens As Alternative For Industrial Agriculture
Community Gardens as Possible Alternative to Industrial Agriculture
Using Case Studies in Queensland, Australia
Brief History and Context:
Community gardening is a solution emerging from grassroots environmental and food movements
(Nettle 2010) While community gardens are often discussed as a progressive, new practice in
sustainability, community gardens have actually been cultivated since at least the nineteenth century,
when community gardens were grown by many working class neighbourhoods during large industrial
periods (Lawson 2004). Furthermore, during both World War I and World War II, community gardens
grew produce for middle class families in times of war scarcity in Great Britain, the United States and
Australia (Guitart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Community gardens offer a possible alleviation of global pressures in agriculture, as community
gardens are small scale, local agricultural modes of production
Urbanisation trends have led to factors such as declining access to yard space and rising levels of
physical inactivity, (King 2008). These factors, combined with rapidly rising knowledge and worries
about the current dominant food production regime, have led to the re emergence of community
garden projects across Australia and the world.
Motivations for Community Gardens: Previous studies on community gardens have reviewed the
various motivations and community benefits (Byrne 2012) and provide valuable insight into the
current movement. The vast majority of community gardens studies cite capacity building as the main
motivator of community gardens, as well as crime reduction, mental health benefits, community
building and physical health promotion (Holland 2004, Wakefield et al 2007). Apart from
environmental benefits, community gardens have also been shown to ameliorate education related to
plants, growing processes and production, as well as contact with nature, which is likely to be
otherwise severely limited in urban areas, and may also ease racial tensions (Shinew et al 2004).
Guitart s 2013 study on community garden practices in Brisbane and Gold Coast cities reveals that the

The Pros And Cons Of Performance-Based Budgeting
Budgeting is a process to plan budget which is used to describe fiscal expectation, expenditure and
future planning of an individual, organization or government within a given period of time (Olawale,
et al. 2012). Up until now, there are many methods of budgeting for governments such as traditional
(line item) budgeting, zero based budgeting, and performance based budgeting. Due to its simplicity,
the traditional budgeting which listed groups of expenditure using last year s data such as office
supplies, salary, electricity bill and used incremental approach on them (Navin, 2003) has become the
most popular one in many countries. However, many people criticize this budgeting method because
many believe that this budgeting method is ineffective and inefficient . As a result, since 1990s, many
countries have reformed their budgeting method to performance based budgeting which use
performance information in budget processes (Lee and Wang, 2009). Despite the trend of budgeting
reform in the world, some developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some countries performance based budgeting is known as budgeting results and performance
funding (OECD, 2007). Young (2003) stated that most experts agree that, Performance based
budgeting (PBB) is the allocation of funds to achieve programmatic goals and objectives as well as
some indication or measurement of work, efficiency, and/or effectiveness . PBB links directly the
expected results and resource requirements (Navin, 2003). It is clearly shown that result is the focus of
this budgeting method. Navin (2003) also said that performance measure is important in PBB because
it shows whether the activities of the government departments actually make a difference in people s
life. Although performance would not be the only factor in a budget allocation decision, it has a
significant contribution in the decision making process because it could give better informed

Essay On The Hundred Years War
One of the longest conflicts in the history of warfare, the Hundred Years War was a time that defined
history for both England and France. The war lasted from 1337 until 1453 passing over one hundred
years and reaching a total of one hundred and sixteen years. It began in May 1337 when King Philip
VI of France tried to confiscate English territories located in Southwestern France and it then ended in
July 1453 when the French finally expelled the English from the continent. In the one hundred and
sixteen years time span, there were about sixty eight years of peace, and forty four years of a series of
battles full with raids, sieges, and naval battles. Like many other wars, it did not achieve anything
except for destruction, disorder, and the misery of the common people living in these events, though it
marked the start of early modern times for England and France. (Bishop) Although the war started in
1337, the roots trace back all the way to the reign of William the Conqueror. When William the
Conqueror became king in 1066. He launched an invasion of England from Normandy, his territory

Psychological Perspectives of Smoking Essay
Psychological perspectives of smoking
This essay will consider how each of the 5 psychological perspectives explain smoking. I will cover
the psychodynamic, the behaviouristic, the biological, the cognitive and the humanistic approach.
Psychodynamic approach
The psychodynamic approach views behaviour in terms of past childhood experiences, and the
influence of unconscious processes. There are five psychosexual stages in Freud s theory, the first
being the oral stage during which the infant focuses on satisfying hunger orally. Sigmund Freud
believed that during this stage of development the person can become fixated in the oral stage of
development. An infant s pleasure and comfort centres on having things in the mouth during this ...

Ivan Pavlov conducted an experiment where he had surgically implanted tubes into the cheeks of dogs
to monitor the secretion of saliva whilst the dog was eating. (Pavlov, 1902) He noticed that the dog
started to salivate before the food was put in its mouth. He then presented to food to the dog whilst
playing the sound of a metronome, eventually the dog started to salivate when just hearing the
metronome alone. This can be related to smoking using the following model:

Peer groups + Smoking during conditioning acceptance and happiness
Smoking after conditioning acceptance and happiness
One of the main strengths of the behaviourist approach is that it focuses only on behaviour that can be
observed and manipulated. Therefore, this approach has proved very useful in experiments under
laboratory conditions. On the other hand this has been criticized for suggesting that most human
behaviour is mechanical, and that human behaviour is simply the product of stimulus response
behaviours.
The biological approach
The biological approach looks at our genetics to construct a reason why we act the way we do and
why we develop abnormal behaviours. This approach suggests that the reason people smoke is a
biological addiction from a chemical in cigarettes called nicotine. Nicotine is a chemical that alters

Chuck Close Analysis
Chuck Close is a modern American artist who has achieved success for his large scale portraits. Yes, I
would describe Close s work as a form of language because it explored the established visual
presentation from the portraits. The subject of his portraits has been drawn from himself, his family,
and friends. His works explain that it has been driven by his lifelong learning difficulties. His portraits
tell everything about his struggle to remember the faces while drawing. Also, the uses of the grid to
break down every image that he paints into small incremental units showed that we could easily focus
on each part of his paintings. I would consider this exploration of an artist at work as good and well
deserving artworks in exploring the process.

Descriptive Essay On Rain Forest
It was two years ago, in Australia. My parents, my sisters and I were visiting the country in camping
car, and we had decided to go on an excursion in a rainforest. The weather was enjoyable, there were a
couple of clouds in the sky, just enough to make the heat bearable. We had walked in many other
forests, but only in other countries. Me and my sisters were very excited to walk through our first
Australian rainforest. If we had known what was awaiting us there we would have certainly not
chosen to go at all. That day would teach us to never walk in an Australian rain forest unless you are
sure, and absolutely certain about the weather.

Understanding that my little sister screamed Mom! I have some on my leg! We were all panicking, we
did not know how to get them off. My mother then had a really great idea :
I know what to do she stated.
What asked my two sisters in unison.
I know that salt repels leeches, and I also know there is salt in the mosquito repellent, so we should try
and spray the repellent on the leeches and see if that works. She answered.
Do it on me first! Screamed my two sisters, eager to get these disgusting blood suckers off their skin.
After testing the repellent on a leech on my father s leg, the worm detached from our skin in a
spasmodic movement of what looked like pain. And so, quickly and effectively we started to get rid of
the leeches. Everyone had some on their skin, except me. I was glad I had taken what I thought had
been a piece of dirt off my leg, because there was no doubt now, that it was a leech.
Once we were sure that all of them were gone, we started thinking about how these worms got into
our clothes when we were walking, and instantly we knew: it was the rain. The leeches must have
been on branches and trees, and feeling our presence, have let themselves drop on us alongside the
drops of water. That thought in mind we went back to the camping car

Designing Spaces Made For A Space
As designers our role is to make a space not only aesthetically pleasing but functional. However
countless spaces to this day do not function properly because every person who enters it cannot use it.
Accessibility is often not considered in many interior space designs, which excludes people with
difficulties of mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity. This exclusion or added difficulty means the
design has failed. As we have continued to learn about human factors with a focus on accessibility, I
have now looked at how I should design much differently. I am not thinking how would I like it , I am
now thinking how could everyone use this . Universal design is of utmost importance and as designers

more of the complications. The next design feature and ergonomic consideration for the Assisted

comes with all reception desks. Having a two level reception desk allows people to either be served
standing, or served in a wheelchair. It also ensures children to be seen and helped. Having an obstacle

optimal universal design. There was also a lot of thought that went into the flooring choices for not
only the common areas but the retirement suites. Dealing with seniors there is a higher concern for
falls or slips. Choosing a floor that allowed a wheelchair or walker to pass over it as well provide
traction and grip was a must. There also had to be considerations of the hardness of the floor to
eliminate any chance of injury steering clear of unforgiving hardwoods was the decision that had to be
made. Flooring can be aesthetically pleasing as well contribute to the safety and ease of use in a space.

Online File Sharing and Internet Piracy
The United States of America is a free country, then why shouldn t the internet be free? Why should
we have restrictions placed on what we can and cannot do on the internet? Every day, millions of users
share files on the internet through numerous online sources. Whether they download music, movies, or
software, online file sharing can give people access to a plentiful amount of information. These files
are often free and easily accessible by anyone. The practice of distributing or providing access to
digitally stored information represents file sharing (Peer to Peer File Sharing and Copyright

At no cost or free access to any information brings many benefits to users through online piracy. When
anyone downloads a program from an online source they use it as a preview or free trial when none
are available. People do this in order to see what they want is worth the purchase or not. For example:
Someone has no clue what word processing program to buy and he or she does not want to just waste
the money on a word processing program he or she cannot use. This is where internet piracy can come
in to play and benefit him or her greatly. He or she can just download the word processing programs
they have been looking at from an online source to use as a free trial, find the best one, and later buy
it.
Have you ever let a friend borrow a CD, a book, or a movie? The borrowing of copyright materials
like music, books, or movies is an act of colloquially known as piracy. Internet piracy is the borrowing
of files including music through online sites where one person uploads it and many others help
distribute the file. Music files were some of the first types of files to be pirated. Music files are a big
portion of all of the files pirated over the internet. File sharing of music leads to a lot of benefits for
the music industry, record companies, and the artists involved in music. Free exposure through online
sharing of music will benefit the artist, the public, and the music industry (Torr).

Ineffective Argument in Jessica Statsky s Essay, Children...
Jessica Statsky, in her essay, Children need to Play, Not Compete attempts to refute the common belief
that organized sports are good for children. She sees organized sports not as healthy pass times for
children, but as onerous tasks that children do not truly enjoy. She also notes that not only are
organized sports not enjoyable for children, they may cause irreparable harm to the children, both
emotionally and physically. In her thesis statement, Statsky states, When overzealous parents and
coaches impose adult standards on children s sports, the result can be activities that are neither
satisfying nor beneficial to children (627). While this statement is strong, her defense of it is weak.
One of the assumptions Statsky makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who play these games want to win. Winning may not be the most important reason for
playing a game, but children do not play to lose, either. They are elated when they win and either
somber, angry or good humored when they lose, just as adults are. Statsky then makes another faulty
assumption. She writes Winning and losing may be an inevitable part of adult life, but they should not
be part of childhood (Statsky 629). This assumes that winning and losing are already not part of
childhood. What child has ever gotten to full adulthood without ever knowing the disappointment of
loss or the joy of winning? To assume that children are psychologically incapable of handling
competition and the occasional inevitable loss is to severely underestimate children s abilities. Statsky
also uses the all too common phenomenon of the overzealous parent or coach to support her thesis.
She cites examples of parental brawls and coaches who rely on intimidation rather than good coaching
to push their teams to victory (Statsky 629 30). Statsky seems to be saying that parents and coaches
can behave in an obnoxious and even violent manner when they are part of organized sports for
children, and that this behavior is yet another indication that organized sports are not suitable for
children (629 30). This is a post hoc, ergo propter hoc fallacy. Though undoubtedly distressing for the
children involved in these games, adult misbehavior is not an indication

Deceit is no shade of the rainbow, is is a facet of human life. Affirming this fact audibly is brash, like

the prejudice environment surrounding him, and the disgrace his choice to defend Tom has brought

Carbapenem Lab Report
Chemistry and Antibacterial Activity of Carbapenems
Carbapenems are a class of beta lactam antibiotics that are effective against many gram positive, gram
negative, aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms (Holten and Onusko, 2000). Beta lactam is a key
component to the core structure of carbapenem which consists of 2 Azetidinone where two hydrogen
atoms are substituted for two variable R groups (see Figure 1).
The most widely used carbapenems include imipenem, meropenem, ertapenem and doripenem

antibiotics, almost all act on bacteria in the same way by preventing bacterial cell wall synthesis. They

Introduction to Lean manufacturing:
Principles of lean thinking have been broadly accepted by many manufacturing operations and have
been applied successfully across many. Different authors define it distinctively. Lean manufacturing is
most frequently associated with the elimination of seven important wastes to ameliorate the effects of
variability in supply, processing time or demand defined it as a philosophy of manufacturing that
focuses on delivering the highest quality product on time and at the lowest cost. Worley (2004)

Lean manufacturing requires machines which are reliable and efficient. Inventories can be reduced
when machine downtime is minimized.
Work processes across the value stream should also be emphasized in lean manufacturing. Processes
should be performed with a minimum of non value added activities in order to reduce waiting time,
queuing time, moving time, and other delays Besides this, standardization of work processes is needed
to facilitate efficient, safe work methods and eliminate wastes, while maintaining quality.Itensures a
consistent performance and creates a foundation for continuous improvement.
Nowadays, a product with high quality is a prerequisite for any manufacturer. Quality is a major focus
in lean manufacturing because poor quality management would result in many wastes such as scraps
and rejects. Appropriate quality management helps to control a manufacturing process, and this
reduces safety buffers and exposes quality issues. Reduction of safety buffers will eventually lead to
reduction of inventories.
Employees who are motivated and empowered are essential since people are the key element in lean
manufacturing. Japanese regard people as assets because they are the ones who are going to solve
problems and improve processes in production.
Another key area of lean manufacturing is layout which determines the arrangement of facilities in a
factory.

Advantage And Weaknesses Of Absolute Advantage
1. Absolute advantage is the theory that a nation specializes in something that it is most efficient at
producing. Absolute advantage is based on productivity. Nation that can produce a good and require
the least quantity of input is considered to have an absolute advantage. On the other, comparative
advantage is based on opportunity cost. Even though that nation may not have the absolute advantage,
it still can produce the good if it has the lowest opportunity cost as compared to another nation.
Absolute advantage came before comparative advantage. The comparative advantage theory came as a
response to the weaknesses of absolute advantage theory, one of which was the fact that it does not
give guidance for nations that do not have absolute advantage. Comparative advantage brings in the
idea that nations with no absolute advantage can still specialize if those nations are capable of
producing the product at a lower opportunity cost. For example, Nation 1 has absolute advantage over
both Good 1 and Good 2, but if Nation 2 has a comparative advantage (can produce at lower
opportunity cost) over Good 2 (but not Good 1), then Nation 1 can specialize in Good 1 and Nation 2
can specialize in Good 2.
2. Comparative advantage. If being selfish, perhaps a nation would choose to have absolute advantage.
Seeking absolute advantage is like obtaining a monopoly of a certain industry. Many of us are aware
that governments like the US are continually eliminating monopolies because they are taking over
smaller businesses in the same industry. Absolute advantage is based on the idea of WINNER LOSER.
When a nation tries to have an absolute advantage in something, it means that the other nations lose
the chance in that something. In contrast, comparative advantage is based on a WIN WIN concept.
Any nation can engage in that particular production of goods even if it does not have an absolute
advantage. Comparative is better than absolute advantage in that it encourages more nations to engage
in international trade.
3. National and Individual Benefits of Absolute Advantage:
a. Both nations benefit by using the resources most effectively (resources are not wasted).
b. Both nations only focus on what they have absolute

through use of imagery. In the first three stanzas Hardy reminisces about a memory he has with a past

devastated and frustrated when love perishes and feels deceived by the sweet promises love had to

In the first stanza, Hardy compares his dying relationship to his surroundings. He sets the tone during
this stanza as melancholy and gloomy. The water in the pond represents Hardy s relationship and how
it is not progressing in line 1, We stood by a pond that winter day .... A pond is a small body of water
that rarely has movement just like Hardy s relationship. The sun is described as white in line 2 and is
seemingly deprived from the power to warm and nurture. This intensifies the tone of sadness and
hopelessness. During the third line of the first stanza the leaves that lay on the ... Show more content

The first line of the third stanza describing her smile contains a disheartening meaning. Usually, a
facial gesture would be associated with happiness and joy; whereas in Neutral Tones the smile is
described as the deadest thing . The cold causality of the gesture serves as reminder to the bitterness of
the poem. This metaphor continues, with the phrase: alive enough to have the strength to die (l.10).
This phrase further enhances the emotional uproar experienced by Hardy, presenting a horrifying
image of something that just has enough energy to die. Based from this line, the speaker had already
known that his lover would deceive him in love; just as her smile that defeats the purpose of joy and
happiness. Hardy gives his readers a sense that he knew the relationship was going to be deceased or
was in the process of

The defendant in this case was the Australian government; they claim that the island of Mer as well as
other Murry islands belongs to them as crown land. The case was a test case that aimed to clarify the
legal rights of the Meriam people. The case lasted for 10 years and a decision was made on the 3rd of
June 1992.

Paul Keating wanted a national approach to issuing native title for the greater guarantee of justice ad
equity this was because he believed that the states could not be trusted I this matter. It was proposed
that the commonwealth run a system that dictates the allocation of Native title in Australia.
Richard court, the premier of Western Australia at the time was against the Native title act as he was
afraid that because most of Western Australia has underdeveloped land that most of it will be
recognised under native title and given to the indigenous Australians. Richard court s government
attempted to extinguish all native title in the state, this act was found to be inconsistent with racial
discrimination act and thus it was abolished.
Representatives of indigenous and Torres straight islanders were hoping to get protection for land
under native title act to not be extinguished, to actually get their land and to have the commonwealth
issue the native land.
The Mabo case also had a big impact on Australia, and in the end Australia enshrined Native Title in
legislation and as a result 17% of Australia is now currently under Native

Essay on Different Types of Managed Care
The accelerating costs of US healthcare, the economic downturn, and reform outcry have revitalize
interest in integrated delivery systems (IDS). However, this is not a new concept. Shortell and
McCurdy (2010) define IDS as a network of organizations that directly provides or arranges to
provide a coordinated continuum of services to a defined population and is able and willing to be held
accountable for the cost, quality and outcomes of care and, the health status of the population served
(p.370). Today, many healthcare providers believe in the integrated delivery system; in fact,

A similar IDS model to IPA is the Physician Practice Management Companies (PPMCs). Under the
PPMC model, HMOs contract with PPMCs to provide care for members at reduced costs and like IPA,
PPMCs are made up of physicians and there is no association with hospitals .However, Kongstvedt
(2007) argues that there has been a decline in the number of PPMCs since the late 1990.Like IPA and
PPMC, Group Practice Without Walls (GPWW) is another integrated delivery system that does not
require the participation of a hospital. However, Kongstvedt (2007) states that GPWW is a legal entity
created by private physicians merging their practices as one. Under this model, GPWW is owned and
operated by the physician members. In regards to contracts, GPWW would negotiate with MCOs as a
single entity and when a portion of physician s income is at risk in IPA model, Kongstvedt (2007)
argues that the group income has a direct effect on physician income in GPWW model. Unlike the
IPA, PPMC, and GPWW models, Physician hospital organization (PHO) IDS model is the legal entity
which requires the participation a hospital and as well physicians. The PHO would

Nepal s Present Is Reflexive of Its History
Nepal s present is reflective of its history. Within the past few years, the country has been in a state of
disarray because its history has been fraught with political turmoil. As a whole, Nepal is a severely
underdeveloped country. Throughout its history, Nepal has had little interaction with the outside
world. The lack of political stability throughout its history accounts for many of the reasons of why
Nepal is the way it is. As a landlocked country, Nepal has had little interaction with the outside world
for most of its history. Unlike most developing countries, Nepal was never colonized. It is for the most
part still considered a traditional society and has not experienced much modernization. Nepal s history
for the most part has been able to play out with little interference. While it is still underdeveloped,
some theorists believe that the lack of outside interference will greatly benefit Nepal in the long term.
While Nepal has recently experienced vast political changes, it used to be a monarchy. In 1846, the
Ranas, the ruling dynasty, cut the country off from the outside world. In 1950, Anti Rana forces allied
with the monarch and the end of the Rana rule was brought about in 1951, allowing the sovereignty of
the crown to be restored. Nepal joined the United Nations in 1955 looking to be connected to the
outside world for the first time in almost a century. Nepal implemented a multi party constitution in
1959. King Mahendra, who took control of the throne in

Organizational Culture Of Home Depot
Bernard Marcus, the founders of Home Depot, developed a very informal and store oriented culture at
Home Depot.
An oganisation s culture can be perceived as its style, atmosphere and personality. For Home Depot, it
was all about entrepreneural high spiritdness which gave the members of the workforc the freedom to
decide what they preceived to be the best for the company.
The company s structure was said to be an inverted pyramid : the customers and store managers on the
top and the top management at the bottom. This showed how everyone s beleifs and opinions were
aligned towards customer satisfaction and extreme personal involvement with the customers and the
store.
Home depot had two set of beleifs : Firstly there are internal beliefs that include encouraging
innovation at all levels and allow managers to take decisions for their stores independently and
secondly there are external beliefs which focus on the fact that all actions should move ... Show more

All this also contributed to their informal culture.
The extra ordinary autonomy given to the store manager was one of the main reasons why employees
were so happy to associate with and believe in the company s culture.
One of the differentiating factors of Home Depot was that it incorporated within its members a major
aversion to any kind of beauracracy and hierarchy. It was a usual practice at the stores to ignore all
kind of paperwork that was sent to them by the headquarters. They undervalued such directives to the
extent that they would throw these papers in the waste basket or mark them with BS stamp and send it
back to the headquarters. They believed that all this was a waste of time of the managers and they had
more important things to address to at their stores, the most important of them being : satisfying the

Osi Model
Michael Rauseo IT310 OSI Model In the early years of computer and network research and
development many systems were designed by a number of companies. Although each system had its
rights and were sold across the world, it became apparent as network usage grew, that it was difficult,
to enable all of these systems to communicate with each other. In the early 1980s, the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) recognized the need for a network model that would help
companies create common network implementations. The OSI reference model, released in 1984,
addresses this need. The OSI reference model became the primary architectural model for
communications. Although other architectural models have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For a reliable network layer a minimal transport layer is required. Functions of the transport layer

Analysis Of One Abstains From Dangerous Acts By Ernest Van...
Every person have different traits along with their different feelings. But sometimes feelings like fear
can change their minds. It is a natural fact that whenever a person flashback with tensed past memory,
fear will arise in their minds, And same conditions appear when a person is about to kill someone but
unfortunately, a criminal finishes his/her infraction. Ernest van den Haag who was an American
sociologist and writer once said in his article One abstains from dangerous acts because of vague,
inchoate (beginner), habitual and, above all, preconscious fears . This shows how it allows future
teenagers because they look forward towards their parents traits and gains from bad experiences with
previous lessons. Fear does change people and

Genre Of Music Essay
Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in line
with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for.
As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The
overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard
average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and
therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able
to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a
significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats
when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart
rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis.
The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber.
The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting
average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM.
Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps
while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical
music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous
studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who was completely different
from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects tested, except for one, were 18 22
male and female college students. The one subject who did not fit the mold of our other subjects was a
male, college professor. This subject s response to all of the music genres did not come close to any
other person s response. With every single genre of music that was played for this subject, their heart
rate lowered significantly. There are a

A History Of The World In Six Glasses Analysis
Tom Standage s A History of the World in Six Glasses discusses the importance of six beverages (beer,
wine, spirits, coffee, tea, Coca Cola), each of which define distinctive periods of civilization. The
comparably minor, yet crucial role of water is also represented in support of Standage s argument
regarding not only the necessity of each drink as a requisite to life, but also the role of each drink as a
stimulus for cultural diffusion and development. Various historical developments, ranging from water
purification to convivia, are utilized to depict each beverage s appeal and the contributions of each
drink towards its respective era of prosperity, subsequently illustrating various historical themes that
mark the progression of society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rise in popularity of spirits is evident in rum s establishment as the favored beverage of North
American colonists since rum was not only cheaper than brandy (owing to the fact that rum was made
from leftover molasses), but rum also did not need to be shipped over the Atlantic. The new surge of
rum thrived as the most profitable manufactured product made in New England, aiding America s
newfound prosperity. Meanwhile, the Molasses Act that was passed in an attempt to maintain Britain s
sugar industry, which could not compete effectively against other foreign sugar producers, was widely
resented and generally circumvented by the colonists through smuggling, consequently undermining
respect for British law and initiating defiance towards laws deemed unreasonable. The following
Sugar Act in addition to the newly revised and enforced Molasses Act cultivated hostility to the distant
parliament where they [American colonists] had no representation (Standage, 119). Ultimately, the
American Revolution, fueled by rum, was generated through the differing perspectives and
hierarchical systems of rule of Britain and America. Yet it was the rising popularity of whiskey (which
was more efficient to cultivate inland in comparison to rum) and the corresponding Whiskey Rebellion
that further developed and displayed the function of America s government. Although the liquor excise
that fueled the colonists discontentment, eventually starting the rebellion, failed and was repealed
shortly, the governmental intervention involved in the suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion
demonstrated that federal law could not be ignored, thereby effectively portraying America s
maintenance of its system of rules. As such, Standage s arguments are furthered, evident by America s
rise to independence in addition to the

Analysis Of The Movie Coal Miner s Daughter
Component Paper Draft Some of us keep asking for American movies that speak of the variedness of
America. Much of the time, this picture does part of that job. It means a lot more to me than the
bloated Nashville [1975], with its strain to be an All American metaphor. Stanley Kauffmann, New
Republic, 1980 review on Coal Miner s Daughter . Film are stories about peoples experiences and one
film that tells of a woman s experience road to fame is Coal Miner s Daughter this film tells the story
of how Loretta Lynn became the the queen of country and does a wonderful job. It shows the
hardships and glories that come with being in the spotlight as well as the struggle of maintaining a
relationship with her husband and family. In able to tell a great story, it depends on the work that is put
into many of the aspects of film. If one person does not do their job correctly, then the film may lack
creatively. Parts of Coal Miner s Daughter that helped to make it a great film are art direction,
costumes, makeup, visual effects, sound design, editing, music, script, performance, direction, scene
analysis, and historical analysis. All these elements of the film combined help make Coal Miner s
Daughter an exceptional and intriguing film. If even one of these elements of film were lacking the
movie would suffer, but all components come together to tell a story about a woman that changed the
world of country music. In order for a film to be believable the world of the

  • 2. Essay about Not Really The Working Poor in Nickel and Dimed Barbara Ehrenreich would make a bad representative of the working poor because she lacks three major things that a woman of that class would actually possess. Ehrenreich doesn t meet the true qualifications of a working class woman: she lacks the background, she lacks respect of the money she earns, and she lacks certain personal or social qualities that ordinarily are possessed by the working poor. Ehrenreich is part of the upper middle class; she is privileged to have a job in which she makes money by sitting at her desk and writing (E 2). She has never considered herself one of the working poor before this experiment, even though she explains, the low wage way of life had never been many degrees of separation away (E ... She has enough money to stay in her own place while almost every other person she speaks of is living with another person. That other person isn t just another body, it s another contributing wage. [My coworkers] live with spouses or grown children or they have other jobs in addition to this one (E 178). The wear and tear of simply having to deal with relationships and to live with another person, not always just a spouse or family member, but sometimes a friend or simply a coworker, is something Ehrenreich does not have to endure. The second trait that I find Ehrenreich lacks is a certain respect of money that one of the working class would possess. One of the first examples I saw of this was when she bought her uniform pants in Florida for Jerry s. Then there is the $30 I had to spend on the regulation tan slacks worn by Jerry s servers a setback it could take weeks to absorb (E 39). This foolish decision on buying pants at $30 is not something a working poor woman would do. Alyssa at Wal Mart proves this: That afternoon, Alyssa... had come by ladies to inquire about a polo shirt that had been clearanced at $7. Was there any chance it might fall still further? (E 159). I also see that she is rather careless with her money when she explains her situation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command. Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. Ensuring each stage in the production, processing, and marketing of a product is appropriately managed and interrelated to the next, so that decisions about what to produce, and how much, are communicated as efficiently as possible from the consumer to the producer (Vertical coordination. Huck s biological father was not a prominent person in his life, he abandoned Huck so he could carelessly drink any alcohol he could get his hands on. When he finally tried to be in Huck s life he kidnapped him, and only came back around because the word of Huck now having a great quantity of money meant he would have an endless supply of liquor. It is stated that, these standards set grade specific goals, they do not express how the standards should be taught or which resources should be used to support students . One of the most imperative objectives of the Common Core State Standards is that it gives the needed information and assistances essential to thrive while in undergrad and or graduate school, profession, and life. In order to decide and or see if the standards meet this objective was determined with relating them to the best state ethics, observing them in affiliation to formerly established college and career willingness standards, and having them revised by postsecondary teachers who teach entry level courses (Conley, D. 2014). These are heterogeneity in child s ability, which causes heterogeneity in the cost of education, and differential future expectation of parents depending on their socio economic background. I attempt to capture these four channels using a number of variables. For saving, I use income of household head and for bequest, I use whether the household owns any house. Here income of household head may be under reported or may have some types of measurement errors, so, we use several other variables to instrument it. Ownership of a house is used to capture bequest as housing price is very high almost across the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, I use household head s gender ($Head_female$), Household head s sector of employment ($Sector$), religion of household head ($Religion$), and the location of household ($Urban$). Using these variables I estimate the following models: Where $y$ is child s working hours per day, $ extbf{X}={Urban, Sector, Female, Head_literacy, Religion, House,$ $ Head_income, Head_female, Dropout_ability, Dropout_cost, Dropout_income}$, $ extbf{Z}= {Urban, Head _sector,$ $ Female, Head _literacy, House, Land, Num _hhchld, Head _literacy, Head_age, Dropout_ability,$ $Dropout_cost, Religion, Dropout_income, TV, Head_female}$, $Q_{N}(eta) = g_{N}(eta) W_{N}g_{N}(eta)$, $g_{N}(eta)=frac{1}{N} sum_{i=1}^{N}Z epsilon$, and $W$ is a $N imes N$ positive semi definite matrix. They opened my eyes (often against my will and certainly against my druthers ) to their alternative society. During the course of my studies, I researched cases at the Orlando office of the State Attorney. One of the Assistant State Attorneys there, who had been my official counselor and became my unofficial mentor while I was an undergraduate at UCF, invited me to be intern. There are only little boys on the island and the author gave them almost a perfect island to live on. They have fruit, water, but there is no sign of civilization on the island. The boys first instinct was to group together when the conch was blown. The children can do whatever they want because they have no authority. They also established a leader right when the whole island was started. Ralph is one the main characters and he is a John Locke type character. Locke is an enlightenment thinker and one of his philosophy is he sees everyone as good person. Hobbes is another philosopher that thinks the opposite of Locke s philosophies in a lot of places, he thinks that all people are cruel and terrible people and need to be put in there place by a big bad ruler. Locke had an outlook on government much like Ralph did, he wanted to have someone that could lead well and had a lot of knowledge on how things worked. The value of our currency is most reflected in the price of the US dollar. This paper will therefore use the price of a US dollar in terms of Canadian dollars as the value of the Canadian dollar. In the previous section I assumed that the currency is flexible, that is to say that the price is based on foreign exchange market activity. It is however possible to fix the price of a currency at a particular level. In order to accomplish this, the central bank must be willing to buy or sell the perceived excesses of the market; i.e. the bank must buy or sell enough Canadian dollars so that the price remains stable. If such a practice becomes unsustainable the central must change the fixed price or move the peg. Such a system, known as the Breton Woods system was predominant in post world war II industrialized economies. However by the Nineteen sixties Canada, Canada like many other nations, moved to a flexible exchange rate system. It is important not to assume that because the currency is not officially fixed at some level, that the central bank does not play a role in determining its price. The central bank still intervenes in the market but not to hold the price at a certain level, but rather to prevent to price from fluctuating rapidly up or down. This type of exchange rate regime is known as a dirty float. Over this past decade, the value of a Canadian dollar has dropped nearly 25%. In 1990, a US dollar could be ... Mary Szybist s Incarnadine In her Incarnadine, Mary Szybist uses the examples of the Annunciation to Mary and the visions of Joan of Arc to explore the strong dipole of power between god and the women who choose to follow him. A reoccuring theme that can be observed is the power that god exerts over women that are chosen by him, and the resulting internal conflict faced or sacrifices made by these women, who lack the power to oppose this control, but also freely choose to follow god. Szybist uses this common theme to question the meaning of choice when there is a power imbalance. Such a conflict can be seen in Szybist s poem Holy, in which a woman wants to be known by the holy spirit and at the same time feels stifled by its presence within her. This is evidenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The jewelry adorning Joan of Arc seems to be representative of her relationship with god, since the use of the word immoveable to describe the crown implies an unwavering power, such as god s power. Thus, the statement by the speaker that the leaves... go through what my fingers can t may mean that the speaker cannot access the divine like Joan of Arc could. Furthermore, there seems to be an emphasis in these descriptions on bareness and nature, as Joan of Arc is not wearing precious jewelry and is crowned with leaves rather than an actual crown. The fact that Joan is not wearing jewelry, is not armed at all in the same way as the speaker, raises the question of whether she had to put a more feminine version of herself aside in order to be god s soldier. This idea is further supported when the speaker says, If I could I d let your hair down / and make your ears disappear (29 30), which can be seen as wanting to end Joan s prophetic powers (her ability to hear the voice of god) and return her to her more feminine state. Thus, similar to mother Mary, the reader gets the sense that Joan of Arc is sacrificing an aspect of herself in order to fulfill a role that she was chosen for by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing the Personalities of the Writers, Dante and Chaucer Even though Dante and Chaucer never met, Dante having died 19 years before Chaucer was born, Dante inadvertently became Chaucer s life long mentor. Dante s severe spirit turned out to be far more harsh than Chaucer s nature, however Dante s protégé, Boccaccio, became one of Chaucer s greatest inspirations. Looking back at both Dante and Chaucer s works, experts now see striking similarities in their writing. He believed that life on this earth was for a purpose and had meaning to it this can be seen in the Inferno because Dante is working to make his journey purposeful. He travels so far and tries so hard to work his way up to heaven. Chaucer stands in contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looks to other things as purposeful in his life. Chaucer s views of life come from a very political point of view. He was introduced to court life while still in his teens, becoming a page to one of the kings daughter in laws. From there he rose in status until he was promoted to the rank of esquire. Though he was exposed to political plots and war Chaucer exhibit s a lust and compassion for life that completely eludes Dante s works. The war lasted from 1337 until 1453 passing over one hundred years and reaching a total of one hundred and sixteen years. It began in May 1337 when King Philip VI of France tried to confiscate English territories located in Southwestern France and it then ended in July 1453 when the French finally expelled the English from the continent. What child has ever gotten to full adulthood without ever knowing the disappointment of loss or the joy of winning? To assume that children are psychologically incapable of handling competition and the occasional inevitable loss is to severely underestimate children s abilities. • 37. Hosea 3 Essay Hosea s marriage is symbolic to Israel s Unfaithfulness to God through their continuous Idolatry. God s unwavering love is represented in the long suffering husband of the unfaithful wife. The purpose of writing about Hosea s marriage was to provide an illustration of His relationship with the People of Israel. In Hosea 3 shows the greatness of God s grace, when Hosea s wife left him and was living in sin Hosea was commanded by the Lord to buy her back. This illustrated how Israel needs God s intervention to restore their relationship. God desires our love over external spiritual practices. Through Hosea, God says that Israel had left Him to value Harlotry, wine and new wine (Hosea 4:11 NASB). In Verse 12 God makes it clear that men and women were committing infidelity with cultic prostitutes in the worship of false gods. Gomer was an appropriate representation of Israel because of the fleshly nature of idolatry that the folks were committing. Their spiritual adultery gave rise to the physical act of adultery. Hosea marriage is a lasting symbol of God s faithfulness and conditional redemption of His unfaithful people, beforehand and presently, through Jesus Christ. God s words to ancient Israel ought to fill us with hope: I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In lovingkindness and in compassion, 20And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. • 38. Advantage And Weaknesses Of Absolute Advantage 1. Absolute advantage is the theory that a nation specializes in something that it is most efficient at producing. Absolute advantage is based on productivity. Nation that can produce a good and require the least quantity of input is considered to have an absolute advantage. On the other, comparative advantage is based on opportunity cost. Even though that nation may not have the absolute advantage, it still can produce the good if it has the lowest opportunity cost as compared to another nation. Absolute advantage came before comparative advantage. The comparative advantage theory came as a response to the weaknesses of absolute advantage theory, one of which was the fact that it does not give guidance for nations that do not have absolute advantage. Comparative advantage brings in the idea that nations with no absolute advantage can still specialize if those nations are capable of producing the product at a lower opportunity cost. For example, Nation 1 has absolute advantage over both Good 1 and Good 2, but if Nation 2 has a comparative advantage (can produce at lower opportunity cost) over Good 2 (but not Good 1), then Nation 1 can specialize in Good 1 and Nation 2 can specialize in Good 2. 2. Comparative advantage. If being selfish, perhaps a nation would choose to have absolute advantage. Seeking absolute advantage is like obtaining a monopoly of a certain industry. Many of us are aware that governments like the US are continually eliminating monopolies because they are taking over smaller businesses in the same industry. Absolute advantage is based on the idea of WINNER LOSER. When a nation tries to have an absolute advantage in something, it means that the other nations lose the chance in that something. In contrast, comparative advantage is based on a WIN WIN concept. Any nation can engage in that particular production of goods even if it does not have an absolute advantage. Comparative is better than absolute advantage in that it encourages more nations to engage in international trade. 3. National and Individual Benefits of Absolute Advantage: a. Both nations benefit by using the resources most effectively (resources are not wasted). b. Both nations only focus on what they have absolute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first three stanzas Hardy reminisces about a memory he has with a past loved one. During the last stanza, Hardy reflects how the relationship shaped him. The speaker is aggravated mentally by the disappointment of love, believing that things were once beautiful. He is devastated and frustrated when love perishes and feels deceived by the sweet promises love had to offer. In the first stanza, Hardy compares his dying relationship to his surroundings. He sets the tone during this stanza as melancholy and gloomy. The water in the pond represents Hardy s relationship and how it is not progressing in line 1, We stood by a pond that winter day .... A pond is a small body of water that rarely has movement just like Hardy s relationship. The sun is described as white in line 2 and is seemingly deprived from the power to warm and nurture. The first line of the third stanza describing her smile contains a disheartening meaning. The cold causality of the gesture serves as reminder to the bitterness of the poem. This metaphor continues, with the phrase: alive enough to have the strength to die (l.10). This phrase further enhances the emotional uproar experienced by Hardy, presenting a horrifying image of something that just has enough energy to die. Based from this line, the speaker had already known that his lover would deceive him in love; just as her smile that defeats the purpose of joy and happiness. Within the past few years, the country has been in a state of disarray because its history has been fraught with political turmoil. As a whole, Nepal is a severely underdeveloped country. Throughout its history, Nepal has had little interaction with the outside world. The lack of political stability throughout its history accounts for many of the reasons of why Nepal is the way it is. As a landlocked country, Nepal has had little interaction with the outside world for most of its history. Unlike most developing countries, Nepal was never colonized. It is for the most part still considered a traditional society and has not experienced much modernization. Nepal s history for the most part has been able to play out with little interference. While it is still underdeveloped, some theorists believe that the lack of outside interference will greatly benefit Nepal in the long term. While Nepal has recently experienced vast political changes, it used to be a monarchy. In 1846, the Ranas, the ruling dynasty, cut the country off from the outside world. In 1950, Anti Rana forces allied with the monarch and the end of the Rana rule was brought about in 1951, allowing the sovereignty of the crown to be restored. An oganisation s culture can be perceived as its style, atmosphere and personality. For Home Depot, it was all about entrepreneural high spiritdness which gave the members of the workforc the freedom to decide what they preceived to be the best for the company. The company s structure was said to be an inverted pyramid : the customers and store managers on the top and the top management at the bottom. This showed how everyone s beleifs and opinions were aligned towards customer satisfaction and extreme personal involvement with the customers and the store. It was a usual practice at the stores to ignore all kind of paperwork that was sent to them by the headquarters. They undervalued such directives to the extent that they would throw these papers in the waste basket or mark them with BS stamp and send it back to the headquarters. Although each system had its rights and were sold across the world, it became apparent as network usage grew, that it was difficult, to enable all of these systems to communicate with each other. In the early 1980s, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recognized the need for a network model that would help companies create common network implementations. The OSI reference model, released in 1984, addresses this need. The OSI reference model became the primary architectural model for communications. Although other architectural models have ... While many of our tests fell in line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for. As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis. The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who was completely different from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rise in popularity of spirits is evident in rum s establishment as the favored beverage of North American colonists since rum was not only cheaper than brandy (owing to the fact that rum was made from leftover molasses), but rum also did not need to be shipped over the Atlantic. The new surge of rum thrived as the most profitable manufactured product made in New England, aiding America s newfound prosperity. Meanwhile, the Molasses Act that was passed in an attempt to maintain Britain s sugar industry, which could not compete effectively against other foreign sugar producers, was widely resented and generally circumvented by the colonists through smuggling, consequently undermining respect for British law and initiating defiance towards laws deemed unreasonable. The following Sugar Act in addition to the newly revised and enforced Molasses Act cultivated hostility to the distant parliament where they [American colonists] had no representation (Standage, 119). Ultimately, the American Revolution, fueled by rum, was generated through the differing perspectives and hierarchical systems of rule of Britain and America. Yet it was the rising popularity of whiskey (which was more efficient to cultivate inland in comparison to rum) and the corresponding Whiskey Rebellion that further developed and displayed the function of America s government. Although the liquor excise that fueled the colonists discontentment, eventually starting the rebellion, failed and was repealed shortly, the governmental intervention involved in the suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion demonstrated that federal law could not be ignored, thereby effectively portraying America s maintenance of its system of rules.
