Untested Rape Boxs
Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape
kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from
the back burner.
While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may
leave some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and
the general public.
In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some
kits dating back to as early as 1999.
The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in
2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... Show more content on

Of those 767 kits submitted to the lab 586 have been processed to date.
But, as reported by the Salt Lake Police Department, of the 586 processed kits 89 of the matches
led to 63 possible investigations. Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District
Attorney for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to
three perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country.
The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits
will remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with
statistics being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits
would aid in a greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be
beneficial?
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual
assault exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can
also hold up in court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the
collected DNA evidence is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). So if
a perpetrator is not convicted and they do reoffend, their DNA is on file making it easier to connect

Women s Rights Relevant Today
Today, there are many things going on around us that we can use to relate to back things going on
in the time period of 1945 1980. There are many people who believe that some events that took
place back in that time period can be relevant in what is happening today in the United States.
Some examples are Baghdad and the fall of Saigon in the VietnamWar, and the second one being
equal rights for the citizens of the United States. Today there is still issues with racial justice and
immigrant rights, just like there was issues with racial rights and women s rights back in the same

developed today to try to help out those who don t feel equal to everyone else. There is still many
issues with racial justice and sex equality in today s society. Although women have made big steps
for them to be equal to men, however, there are many things that prevent women in the search of
employment, in the sales and rental of housing, and in the daily search of education, health
services, and other things. Different organizations have been created to help get that issue fixed,
just like there was organization s made to help the Women s Movements. Racial justice is still an
issue today as it was back in the 1960s 1980s, events like Ferguson and different police brutalities

Civil Rights Movement, which has committed them to eliminating race based discrimination.

Richard Wilbur s Death Of A Toad
All creatures on Earth that have a purpose of life should be viewed as equals to everyone. In
Richard Wilbur s Death of a Toad he reflects on the thoughts that all people even a toad might have
thought when nearing the time of death. Through careful structure, diction, and graphic imagery, it
shows his regards towards the deathof the toad as well as his transformation from uncaring to
compassionate.
The division of the stanzas leads the emotional rollercoaster that the speaker undergoes. The
poem opens with the speaker s graphic observation, A toad the power mower caught. He seemed
unsympathetic towards the toad and it is evident in the description given in the next few lines
about the toad s injury. When the toad hid in the cineraria leaves, the speaker shows some interest.
He at least concludes that the toad will die in this final glade . In the second stanza, the physical
appearance of the toad is depicted by gruesome images. His leg was chewed and chopped while he
watched stillness of the toad making the speaker think that the toad is attending...towards some deep

Hae Min Lee Case
Sarah Koenig, an investigator is investigating the case about a high schooler, Hae Min Lee, who
was found dead after school on January 13, 1999. She was a senior at Woodlawn High School in
Baltimore County in Maryland. People say that her ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed committed crime
because both of them broke up and he couldn t handle it. Because, of that, he had been in jail for
at least 15 years now. The real question is whether Adnan is innocent or guilty. Did he actually
commit a crime? First, one of the reasons why Adnan is innocent is that many of the people who
knew him well said that he was a very good kid. Usually, when people know a person very well,
they would know the attitude of that person very well too. Similarly, the people who... Show more

to him. We started chatting. And Adnan was a very popular boy in school. He was handsome
and popular with the ladies. So she was speaking to him. And her boyfriend shows up a little bit
later with a friend. And she said her boyfriend was really angry at her, because he s like, why are
you talking to him? You know, high schoolkids, why are you talking to him? Is he hitting on you?
(Episode 1: The Alibi, pg 19) Both Asia and her boyfriend can be used as a proof to say that it was
impossible for Adnan to commit the crime.

The Traits Of Personality Can Be Exemplified By Two Traits
According the Carver Schreier (2012), the trait approach to personality can be exemplified by
two traits (p. 52). One trait can be described as consistency while the other trait usually describes
an individual being different from their neighbors. Vollrath and Torgersen argue that the
extraversion and neuroticism traits are substantially present among individuals who are likely to
participate in risky health behaviors such as smoking, excessive drinking and drunk driving,
drug use and sexual behaviors that risks the overall wellbeing of a person or a person who lacks
both of the following traits in larger quantities. They are generally regarded as individuals who
can withstand temptation and are less likely to participate in risky behaviors. Extraversion seems
to relate to having social impact. (Carver Schreier, 2012) People with high levels of extraversion
seemingly engage with and enjoy being with other people and often are the assertive ones in the
group. People with high levels of neuroticism react differently in situations of stress, oftentimes
unable to cope with situations. Torgersen (1995) proposed a typology defined as priori (p.288).
This typology represents the possible combinations of the Big Three personality factors, which
result in eight unique types (Vollrath Torgersen, 2008). This study examined that high neuroticism
and low constraint played a role in high risk behaviors. Torgersen s definition of constraint is what

Online Video Game Is A Game Of Probability For Money Essay
The denotative meaning of gambling as defined by the online dictionary is the activity or practice

Persuasive Speech On Overfishing
Today I will be talking about over fishing, Over Fishing is the over exploitation of fish to below
acceptable levels. This can occur in most bodies of water, such as the oceans, rivers, lakes and
even ponds. In over fishing we are going to be talking about shark finning, Shark finning is the
practice of slicing off the shark s fins while the shark is still alive and throwing the rest of its
body back into the ocean where it can take days to die what must be an agonizing death. Shark
finning is very common in Asia as it is a delicacy and a prime ingredient in shark fin soup.
Overfishing is very bad problem that is occurring more and more in the world today. The core of
overfishing comes from commercial fishing. Commercial fishing is the activity of catching fish and
other seafood for commercial profit. The reasons for overfishing vary, but the main reason for
overfishing is that the more fish equals the more profit. Over fishing is also very bad for the
environment, it has allot of bad affects, one of these bad affects are the destruction of the
environment. Ecosystem destruction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Research Paper On Shared Intention
Gilbert s account of shared intention
In Gilbert s (2009) paper, Shared Intention and Personal Intentions, she had given a clear statement
about shared intention that it is an action acted by agents together as a body in the future plans. The
first step to share intention is to have an agreement between agents. They usually shared their
intention literally and expressed by a shared intention sentences of form We intend to do A , We
are going to do A , and so on. They may also use the sentences of form like We intend that... to
show their shared intention on thought. In some cases, a future directed shared intention can be
arose without any agreement between agents. For example, Liam and Gary plan to go to
supermarket together. Liam said Let s go to supermarket together this afternoon. Gary replied Sure.

Under this criterion , the concurrence of all agents is required to change or rescind the shared
intention, or to release an agent from participating in the action, without special understanding
backgrounds (Gilbert, 2009). We can use Liam and Gary case to illustrate this criterion more. If
Gary suddenly do not want to go to supermarket, instead, he want to go to bank on their way to
supermarket, Gary could not leave unless Liam agree with it. This is because Gary had an
agreement with Liam that they would go to supermarket together this afternoon. If Gary quit the
action, he would betray their agreement and broke their shared intention. On the other hand,
however, if Gary gives an understanding background to Liam in the first place, that is Gary told
Liam that he may go to bank this afternoon when they are achieving the agreement, Gary can feel
free to go without agreed by Liam. Certainly, one can also make their own decision not to do
according to the shared intention, but it doesn t mean that they had changed or rescind or quit from
the shared intention (Gilbert,

Pros And Cons Of Farm Subsidies
For many years, there have been numerous critics of farm subsidies. Free market conservatives
welfare state defending liberals alike have supported deep cuts in these payments to farmers. In
many peoples eyes, farmers are wealthier than the average American. So why should farmers get
tens of billions of dollars each year in the form of federal aid? According to the authors of the
Farm Bill, there would be bold cuts in some of these controversial subsidyprograms. The
opposition to the Farm Bill argued that cutting/eliminating one big subsidy altogether would save
taxpayers a total of approximately $23 billion over a period of ten years. However, according to
the Congressional Budget Office, total government aid to farmers will swell to $24 by this year
(2017). In my opinion, despite what the politicians in Washington say, farmers will always get their
money. That is, the agriculturecommittees in the Congress will always make sure that farmers get

As a fiscal conservative, I want to eliminate programs that ultimately cost taxpayers billions of
dollars. Also, farm subsidies continue to tie farmers in a knot of unproductive regulations.
According to the CATO Institute, farm subsidies also seem to damage the nation s economy. Farm
programs cause overproduction, the overuse of marginal farmland, land price inflation excess
borrowing by farm businesses. In addition, according to the Government Accountability Office,
there are about $500 million worth of improper farm payment each year. Also, since about 2000,
the federal government has paid $1.3 billion in subsidies to people who own farmland that is not
even used for the purpose of farming. If farm subsidies were to be completely eliminated,
agriculture in the U.S. would continue to thrive because farms would adjust plant crops that

Main Themes Of The Prince By Machiavelli
1. Machiavelli wrote The Prince because he wanted to give Lorenzo The Magnificent, a book that
highlights major keys to being a Prince and being one efficiently. Also, The Prince was written
because to gain endeavor by the prince it is customary to give him something a person holds most
valuable, Machiavelli held his knowledge most valuable.
2. The way Governments are Established and Held , is a theme in The Prince. Machiavelli says, The
dominions thus acquired have either been previously accustomed to the rule of another prince, or
else have been free states, and they are annexed either by force of arms of the prince himself, or
of other, or else fall to him by good fortune or special ability. , he then further explains this topic
in the next nine chapters. Another one of the major themes is War . Machiavelli explains how to
use the methods of offense and defense in a war if a princes foundation is stable for four chapters.
Finally, Reputation is a theme of The Prince. Throughout the last twelve chapters Machiavelli
explains how you should act to keep in favor of your citizens.
3. The role of armies is to maintain its country s defense through fortifications. This ensures security
and stops enemies from attacking a prince s country.
4. Machiavelli s advice is more realistic. He writes the real truth of the matter than to its
imagination , compared to other writers that have, have imagined republics and principalities which
have never been seen or known to exist in reality .
5. Machiavelli says it is better for a prince to be both feared and loved, because men will love at
free will and fear at the will of their prince, but a prince must rely solely on his power that he
already has. It is possible for a prince to be both. A prince could show love by giving constant
support for many of the citizens of his country, but should also be feared because he should give
consequences to citizens who do not follow the rules of the country.
6. Conspiracy, a prince should not worry about conspiracies when people are well, but when
people are hostile, he should fear conspiracies. Merit, a prince should show merit, and honor those
who excel. Goodness, a prince should gain

John Locke s Second Treatise On Civil Government
Freedom, a concept essential to the human experience, should have some limitations. In addition, I
will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these
limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle.
There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others.
Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others.
Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to
be under the will or legislative authority of men. If the individual exists in a society, then Locke
theorizes their liberty exists under the legislative power established by consent in the ... Show more

In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of
freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are
perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way
they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set
by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of
nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and
privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the
freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and
Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when
considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited
to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government
becomes illegitimate.
Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle
s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative
freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive
freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the
ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. This life, full of happiness and friendship, does not exist
to harm or foul to others. Without these limitations, positive freedom would not be

Freedom In Albert Camus s The Myth Of Sisyphus
Freedom
People follow same standard steps from birth till the end. We go to kindergarten then to
school. Later we enter university and live with the desire of to find a good job and to make a
better life. Do we do these things, because we really want it? In fact, this is just expectations of
society that most people think they should follow. Albert Camus, philosopher and writer, claims
that with living almost the same lives with others and with following the society we just repress
ourselves. In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus , he acknowledges that person can be free with
accepting the Absurd. People who follow the expectations of society repress their freedom,
because they are not aware that they are ruled by society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, the absurd man is determined to reject all of these
expectations on him. The only freedom the absurd man can know is the freedom he experiences:
the freedom to think and to act as he chooses. By abandoning the idea that he has some role to
fulfill, the absurd man attains the freedom of taking each moment of life as it strikes him, free of
preconceptions or prejudices.
The Guest of the Albert Camus, follows the story of Daru. He is a schoolteacher who lives
on a remote plateau. We see from the beginning of the story that Daru lives alone but he does not
feel lonely. He is even grateful for his solitude and for living in the cruel desert. One day Daru
watches two men approach his schoolhouse. One of the men was Balducci, a friend of Daru and
he leads an Arab prisoner who has been accused of murdering his cousin. Balducci has been
ordered to bring the Arab to Daru, and then return immediately to his post. Likewise, Daru has
orders to turn in the prisoner to police headquarters. Daru refuses this task, considering it
dishonorable, because he does not know that he is guilty or not. Balducci agrees with the
schoolmaster, but insists that in war men must be prepared to do many different jobs.

The True Hero In Spider Man
There are all types of heroes all over the world. A hero is defined by the choices they make and
the things they achieve. Spiderman is a hero like no other. He wasn t always Spider man, he
used to be a young teen named Peter Parker. Peter lived a difficult childhood because he was an
orphan who was very timid and shy. He was also very smart but he often got bullied. He lived
with his aunt and uncle in New York City. You could also describe him as a geeky science nerd
who consistently seeked attention from Mary Jane, who he crushed on since they were six years
old. He lived an ordinary life and only really had two real friends who were Harry and Mary Jane.
Who would think that Peter Parker would undergo such a miraculous transformation and become
the supero that he is. He was blessed with the superpowers but yet cursed at the same time. It
brought moments that caused him hardships in his life and he had to cope with them. Without a
doubt Spider man, is a true hero that undergoes an epic journey.
In Spider man, the patterns are very similar to those of the hero s journey of motif. The call for
adventure in Spider man starts when he goes on a field trip with his high school. They visited a
genetics laboratory. While he was taking photos in the laboratory, he was bitten on the hand by a

Loyalists During The American Revolution
During the American Revolution, people had to decide which side to support. Colonists for
independence from England were usually called revolutionaries or whigs. But some Americans
thought that to break away from the British government would not be right; they usually were
called loyalists or tories.
Here are some reasons that i will not go to the patriots side; first they have all the freedom and no
laws at all; also they don t have one single piece of government and things get out of hand really
fast because whatever they want to do the can; another reason you shall come be with us is that the
patriots are over populated in the united states, and last they have been around for a lot less longer.

India is the largest user of groundwater for irrigation in the world. India has around 432 cubic
kilometres of annual replenishable groundwater re sources. With a net annual groundwater
availability of 399 cubic kilometres, the net withdrawals in 2004 amounted to 58% of the net
annually available resource .The drawn amount of groundwater is estimated to be 210 billion
cubic meters per year compared to 105 billion cubic meters in China and 100 billion cubic meters
in US. Indian agriculture is sustained by groundwater. According to the 2005 06 Agricultural
Census of the country, 60.4 percent of the net irrigated area is irrigated using groundwater.
Agriculture is the source of livelihood for majority of Indian population. Groundwater is contended
to have ushered green revolution in the country. Groundwater irrigation has ensured food security
in times of deficit rainfall and facilitated a manifold increase in agricultural productivity. The
country has become a net exporter of food grains. In 2009 10, agriculture employed 52.9 percent of
the working population (National Sample Survey Organization, 2011). In addition, around 80

Summary Of John Yossarian s Catch-22
John Yossarian is a bombardier of the 256th Squadron of the Army Air Forces during World War
II. He is stationed in Pianosa, a small island off the coast of Italy, and has been ordered to bomb
enemy positions. The story begins with Yossarian attempting to escape the war through feigning
liver complications, which could be considered the exposition of this story. Through this
experience, the reader learns about Yossarians hatred and confusion towards the war and his
strong desire to avoid it at all costs. Yossarian views the war in a different way than most: he is
angered by the arbitrary nature of death and by the fact that at any point, he himself could
succumb to the war. It is for this reason that Yossarian is so affected by the death of Snowden, a
soldier who died right in front of him in the air.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through a series of anecdotes that are usually biased towards Yossarian s point of view, the reader
is taken through a series of paradoxes that are each known as a variation of catch 22 that is,
illogical and paradoxical reasoning that justifies reality. The storyline of Catch 22 is not
chronological, and offers the reader bits and pieces of key moments in Yossarian s life at war.
Yossarian struggles to survive in a war with constant obstacles Colonel Cathcart raising the
number of missions in a tour of duty, facing near death experiences, and more. His main goal is
to leave the war, and requests to do so until Doc Daneeka informs him that his request interferes
with catch 22. Yossarian s request to leave the war would deem him as sane, making him
perpetually stuck in a war effort that deems those who have the desire to fly insane. Amidst
Yossarian s own stories, the reader is exposed to the troubles of Yossarian s fellow

Modern vs. Classical Music
Though the delight of listening to a brand new track on a compact disc with a big name artist has
a similar emotional feel for modern day people, as it would have felt for people listening to a live

the increase of new technology and business schemes has allowed their base of listeners to be on a
global scale for millions, if not yet billions. During the late 17th century to early 19th century, the
phenomenon that is the evolution of Liturgical Music had hit the Classical era; extremely skilled
artists such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and Schubert were producing masterpieces for the courts
of the upper class. Because the culture that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The music medium has exploded into a worldwide cultural phenomenon, where ideas and thoughts
of composition and sound can be exchanged with ease through radios, computers, concerts and
Vinyl/CD/Tape/MP3, which leads to constantly evolving music, rather than the antiquated notion
of music being a regional cultural experience. In terms of the artist in the modern music scene,
the skill and dedication required is equally demanding if not more so to rise to the top in this
competitive industry, though the reward is far greater in terms of fame, wealth and social status;
all of which Mozart strived for but never was able to attain despite being perhaps one of the
greatest musical talents the world has seen yet. Also with the expansion of audiences, infusions of
genres and capabilities with technology, modern society has seen a trend in corporations
fabricating bands, composing music for artists that fit with the cultural fads and electronically
perfecting acoustics, all of which are ways for these companies to make quick profit. The downfall
in this is the loss of appreciation of music by these corporations and eventually listeners, in terms of
the emotion, talent and sacrifice that it takes away from the real musicians trying to make a name
for themselves and their careers, such as Schubert

A Minor Contract
In the state of Massachusetts, a minor may enter a contract at their own will, but may void that
contract, therefore any contract with a minor that does not fall under the exceptions (necessities) is
voidable at the minors disclosure. Some necessities can include, shelter, food.water, clothing. If a
minor is taken advantage of, for example, being told the price of something is more than it really
is, a candy bar is 10$ at the register but $1 on the price tag, the minor may get the difference in
relief. The statute in Massachusetts says that a minor can enter a contract such as a lease, renting
an apartment, or public housing. With housing terms, housing may be considered a necessity,
depending on the minor s status. However Massachusetts courts have not clearly defined whether
they view housing as a necessity. Public housing agencies are not required to determine whether

Essay On Labeling Theory
Labeling theory is very much self explanatory. This theory states that people become criminals
because someone labeled them as one and this becomes part of their self identity. Having a label
such as a trouble maker could stick with you. Not only does this affect you at school, but at work,
and to anyone else who knows you have them label. This also very much goes along with
stereotypes. If you dress like a stereotypical gang member people are going to associate you with
that and that will become a part of your identity.
A person usually gets a label due to the social distance between the labeler and the labeled. There
are two main affect of labeling: creation of a stigma and the effect on self image. The creation of a

Couplet can be defined as 2 rhyming lines. In Holy Sonnet 10, this device is utilized a total of
three times. One particular example can be found towards the beginning of the text, where Death
is being described as not mighty or dreadful, and just beyond that (Donne Lines 2 3). The 2nd line
ends with the word so, and the 3rd ends with overthrow. Seeing as these two words rhyme, and it
consists of two lines, this is indeed a Couplet. In Macavity The Mystery Cat, evidence of a
Couplet is found at the very beginning of the text. Macavity is being introduced as the hidden
Paw, due to how he s the master criminal who can defy the Law (Eliot Lines 1 2). Paw is found
at the end of the first line, and Law is found at the end of the second. Seeing as there are two
lines with rhyming words found at the end of them, this is a Couplet. In The Sunshine Kid, there
is a plethora of Couplet examples. One particular example is found more towards the end of the
poem. Little Miss Sunshine has just basically said to The Sunshine Kid that only he can choose to
dim his light. It goes into saying how Whether the weatherman said it or not, it would be fine,

Belushi is not the only well known celebrity to have died of a Speedball mixture. Ironically enough,
Chris Farley, one of the other most famous cast members of Saturday Night Live and a lifetime

stimulant and depressant are premixed before being taken intravenously. The combination can also
be taken through inhaling or snorting the two powders together, but the intravenous version is
considered more common. Because of the nature of both chemicals used in the drug mixture, a
speedball has an extremely high risk of physical dependence and can cause powerful withdrawal
symptoms. The reason for mixing the stimulant with the depressant is an attempt to maximize the
euphoric effects of both drugs while supposedly reducing the chance of anxiety attributed to
stimulants or sedation attributed to depressants. The risk of HIV contraction is much

Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.

mentioned infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with
their daughter. This is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal
Ms. Moore s cab money and run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are
conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is
impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her.

Methods Of Learning Algorithms For Groups Based On Their...
2.1.3 CLUSTERING: Among the available clustering methods, K Means algorithm is generally
used to divide learners into natural groups based on their behavior for a larger dataset. In the K
Means clustering method, the number of clusters, denoted by K is needed to be predefined to
apply the technique. This is one of the simplest and the most used unsupervised learning
algorithm for clustering. The procedure follows a simple and easy way to classify a given data
set through a certain number of clusters (assume k clusters) fixed a priori. The main idea is to
define k centers, one for each cluster. These centers should be placed in a cunning way because
of different location causes different result. So, the better choice is to place them as much as
possible far away from each other. The next step is to take each point belonging to a given data
set and associate it to the nearest center. When no point is pending, the first step is completed
and an early group age is done. At this point we need to re calculate k new centroids as
barycenter of the clusters resulting from the previous step. After we have these k new centroids, a
new binding has to be done between the same data set points and the nearest new center. A loop
has been generated. As a result of this loop we may notice that the k centers change their location
step by step until no more changes are done or in other words centers do not move any more.
Finally, this algorithm aims at minimizing

The Trans Alaskan Pipeline System
Incorporating the Success of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline (TAPS) into the Building Regulations of
the States of Washington and California.
Abstract
When a large magnitude earthquake strikes, roads might buckle, dams sometimes fail, and
buildings can collapse. As more earthquakes occur, building regulations have been altered to ensure
that buildings experience minimal damage. The Trans Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS), which
transports oil from Prudhoe Bay to the Gulf of Alaska, had engineering in place so when the
earthquake struck the Denali fault in Alaska in 2002, the pipeline didn t leak any oil (Nyman,
Johnson, and Roach, 2003). The success of the pipeline came from its supporting structures. The
engineering used in the TAPS should be applied to buildings in areas that are also prone to large
magnitude earthquakes, such as Washington and California. California is home to the San Andreas
fault, a major transform fault, just like the Denali, and Washington is home to the Seattle Basin,
whose geometry and geological units amplify main and aftershock waves. Washington and
California should first implement better building regulations, and if the premise is successful, it
could be applied anywhere large magnitude earthquakes occur.
Introduction
Large magnitude earthquakes occur on plate boundaries and can produce hazards such as
movement along faults, landslides, and tsunamis. In North America, the western coast is an active
margin, meaning that it is home to earthquakes and

Symptoms And Treatment Of Tuberculosis
Intro: Tuberculosis (TB) Spondylitis, also known as Pott s Disease, is often a result of an extra
spinal infection. Pott s disease can occur as a combination of arthritis and osteomyelitis and
often involves more than 1 vertebrae. The anterior most portion of the vertebrae is commonly
affected. The TB infection of one vertebrae may spread to surrounding vertebrae and vertebral
discs causing a further secondary infection. (Enarson 294 296) Epidemiology: Pott s disease is one
of the oldest diseases known to mankind, with origins dating back to ancient Egypt. In today s age,
Pott s disease is one of the most prevalent diseases in developing countries. (Taylor et al. 1243

In this paper, I will address three propositions that surface in philosophy. The three are: (a) the
physical is causally closed, (b) Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room, and (c) qualia
causes behavior. With these three theses, one can accept only two of these. I will examine the

Qualia, such things as sensations like tastes, smells, pains, etc. If one accepts (b) , then qualia are
nonphysical. If one accepts (c), then there is something nonphysical causing something physical
(behavior). We deny (a) because by accepting (c) then something nonphysical is causing behavior.
Therefore, CCP is false. This view is IQD, Interactionist qualia dualism. Qualia causes behavior and
the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are nonphysical.
Someone might think (a) is true because our experience strongly suggests it s true. Someone
might think (b) is true because Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room and sees
something red for the first time. Someone might think (c) is true because it seems as obvious
that qualia affect the way we behave as whole. I find that qualia causes behavior (IQD) is the
most plausible of the three views. By accepting IQD as the most plausible of the three views, it s
safe to argue that qualia causes behavior and the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are
nonphysical. There is a two way interaction between the physical world and qualia. Things in the
physical world causes qualia and qualia causes states in the physical world, such as behavior.
Lastly, qualia are nonphysical. Our mind and body interact, if I m slouching on a chair and my back

accumulated in the water bodies. Some of the medicines are aerosols and can cause effect through
air. All these studies show that the use of therapeutic veterinary medicines causes effect on the

Taking a Look at Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma most often begins in early childhood. It usually affects children under the age of
five. It is found when the tumour begins to grow and cause symptoms. Sometimes the tumour
forms before birth during the growth of the fetus whilst in the womb. This tumour is found during a
fetal ultrasound. Neuroblastoma often begins in the abdomen affecting the nerve tissues of the
adrenal gland. There are two adrenal glands, positioned one on top of each kidney in the back of
the upper abdomen.
The adrenal glands produce and secret important hormones that help control heart rate, blood
pressure, blood sugar, and the way the body reacts to stress or danger. (National Cancer Institute,
2014)
They also control the function of other tissues, organs and glands in your body to maintain
homeostasis during stress. Although the adrenal gland is the most common area of the body
neuroblastoma begins at, the tumour may also grow and spread to other part of the body, such as
the bones, liver, and skin. The tumour is spread through the blood and lymphatic system.
The adrenal gland has two part of the organ which consist of the outer cortex and the inner medulla.
The cortex is the main part of the adrenal gland and the medulla is about ten percent of the adrenal
gland.
The cortex is divided into three zones which consists of the zona glomerulosa, the zona fasciculata
and the zona reticularis.
The cells of the glomerulosa are structured into small rounded groups of curved column. The cells

The Stranger By Simmel
Simmel defines the stranger , as the man who comes today and stays tomorrow . The stranger is
seen as an element of the group that provides a role that no other member of the group can play.
Thus the stranger can obtain objectivity that members of the group cannot, and has freedom. The
stranger is free from everyone and everything because he/she is impartial, since he/she does not
know anyone on a personal level. This leads to trust in the strangerbecause individuals know the
stranger does not know anyone close to them to reveal personal information. Simmel also
defines the stranger as the union of closeness and remoteness meaning that the ones who are
physically close to us are mentally far away, and the ones who are remote to us are in contrast
near. The stranger is close to us by general observations and far from us because these general
observations can apply to anyone. The stranger is also mobile making it easy to move between
social groups. Simmel s analysis of the stranger exemplifies immigration is the United States.

Love would have still been found and it would have been the same feeling, although with a

the population, but I have to disagree with what he is saying. I just fell in love for the first time
and I do not think I could find the same kind of love anywhere else. I do not believe that I could

The Relations Between Native Americans and Colonists Essay
The Relations between Native Americans and Colonists
There are many reasons Native Americans and European Colonists did not have a good
relationship. The reason for conflict between Colonist and Indians was due to the Colonists
insatiable greed for power and land. Some of the reasons not only included physical mistreatment
but also an ethical mistreatment of the Native Americans. European Colonists not only brought
with them many different diseases that would later aid in the genocide of many Native American
tribes, but also a mindset in which they felt superior to there Native neighbors. This feeling of
superiority led to an outbreak of violence and many different civil wars. Due to the Native

Another cause for poor relations between Native Americans and European Settlers was the
constant push for acquiring new land by the Colonists. The Native Americans did not just want to
give up their land and this resulted in war between the Indians and the Colonists. During this time
Native Americans were sold into slavery belittled and removed from their land, due to the fact
that the Colonists had more advanced technology and weapons. One of the major wars was the
French and Indian War which resulted in the removal of Native Americans from their land and
many casualties on both sides. Over time many battles were fought over land, even after America
was an established country with presidents, laws, and court systems. Native Americans were
continually pushed out of their land for hundreds of years while they were forced to move west.
The constant push of Native Americans out of their land would cause an event known as the Trail
of Tears where thousands of Indians were removed from their land by the Indian Removal Act. In
1830 the Congress of the United States passed the Indian Removal Act. Although many Americans
were against the act, most notably Tennessee Congressman Davy Crockett, it passed anyway.
President Jackson quickly signed the bill into law. The Cherokees attempted to fight removal
legally by challenging the removal laws in the Supreme Court and by establishing an

faces challenges once Britain officially exits the European Union. With the loss of support from
Britain, Germany will be expected to contribute more, which ultimately puts more of an economic
strain on the country. This will force the country to reevaluate the current economic structure and
possibly lead to the redistribution of funds. Germany already makes the largest net contribution to
the EU each year with more than 15 billion in funds. Once Britain leaves the EU this net
contribution is expected to need to increase to 20 billion in funds. Germany s success is
additionally seen in other measures such as life expectancy, education, healthcare, and immigration.
Germany s population sports high longevity and a well educated workforce. Germany continually
receives record numbers of immigrants which is often an indicator of a strong economic market and
a successful country. Germany appears well positioned to handle future economic changes and
thrive.

Sparkly Tutu Essay
A Girl in a Sparkly Tutu When I grow up I am going to be a ballerina, truck driver, who rides a
motorcycle, shouted the small girl in a bright pink tutu under the scorching lights at her
Kindergarten graduation. I was this small girl and I have always been the child who wanted to
break away from the pack and be different from everyone else. I may no longer wantto be a
ballerina, for I realized my hatred for itchy tights, or a truck driver, I am unable to sit for that
long, but I still seem to dream big and stand out. To this day I still keep that little girlwho dreamed
big and loves a sparkly tutu inside me. It seems I have found that the way to stand out from
others is to be the leader that they can follow. I have always been a people person and seem to
feed off of other s ideas and needs. It is the people that I meet in my job, clubs, and activities, that
make me long for more in my life and to help them find more in their own. People tell me that
you can always tell when I am happy because I am bouncing around, like a bunny on to much

ridicule a topic or group of people. Techniques include the usage of comedy, irony, and
exaggerations. Its purpose is to point out foolishness or flaws of said topic, in hopes for
improvement in the real world. Irony is a common form of satirein which something is done or

exploiting and demonstrating follies in society or a group of people without coming off entirely

Banning Written Texts Should Not Baned Books
Until recently, the trend of banning thousands of time honored books was routinely taking place
in public libraries and schools across the country. Presently, many censored books are prevailing
on library shelves and remaining in the hands of students. Without a doubt, banning a book
entirely deprives people of being able to think differently and learn about new topics. However,
censoring books is an exceptional way to allow those who are easily offended to read a written
work without raising an eyebrow. A person will still comprehend the idea of a censored text,
while not becoming insulted by it. Written texts should not be banned because people should be
able to choose for themselves what they wish to read, but written texts should be censored for
people who are sensitive and feel a text is too provocative or offensive for them.
Banning a written text is wrong and unacceptable for numerous reasons. Banning a text limits
people s point of view and keeps them in their comfort zone; people are able to choose for
themselves what they want to read. Limiting society s point of view is a crime; people will
forever be narrow minded and unable to form their own opinions, if this continues. For example, the
article Book Banning Endangers Majority Values, states, Conservative materials on the issue of
homosexuality are disappearing from the collection, or more often, never appearing in the first
place (Harvey). Many books directed from the conservative standpoint, which is

painting portrays a reclining nude figure with a black bootlace bow on her neck suggesting she

The Philosophy Of Progressive Education
Progressive Education
Progressive Education refers to a pedagogical movement that started as a means to reform
traditional teaching methods. The approach in Progressive Education is a method of teaching that
recognises the value of self expression, flexible and informal classroom atmosphere and proper
attention for every student. It lays emphasis on learning through experience rather than memorising
facts without having clear understanding of certain concepts and literature. Progressive Education is
a result of the progressive thought of various 19th century educators who decided that there had to
be a better way of imparting knowledge and educating children. Some influential progressive
educators were John Dewey and William H. Kirkpatrick.

Usually, such type of teaching is characterised by a rigid classroom atmosphere wherein the teacher
stands in the front of the classroom and teaches by delivering lectures. There is minimal scope for

students the flexibility and opportunity to question things, concepts and supports a method of
leaning where students are allowed to explore their capacities. It teaches them how to think about
certain things and question them, and not about what to think and passively accept as facts of life.
This type of teaching acknowledges the need for greater interest and depth of understanding.

Jurassic Park Ethical Issues
The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series was released the summer of 2015, 22 years after the first
movie, Jurassic Park, was released. Movie goers had long awaited a reprisal of the series and

The overall concept of the movie is a theme park where dinosaurs come to life. Of course,

Automobiles
The invention of the automobile in the early 20th century has had an adverse affect on our
environment. Our society has used technology in order to advance the automobile to make it better

With this growing technology to advance automobiles also comes flaws. The biggest and most
obvious flaw is pollution. Because of pollution, we find ourselves asking the question of whether
this technology has helped our society more than it has hurt it. Automobiles are the cause of 60
percent of our air pollution today (Dewees 214). There are four main sources in which pollution

What really happens is that there are hydrocarbon atoms left over from the combustion process
because they did not burn properly or at all. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles
along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process
of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are
specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and
it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide
being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of
Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the
Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and
carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen
oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen
atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. All of these pollutants effect the
environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a look at what exactly these
pollutants do to us. The most dangerous and widespread of all pollutants are hydrocarbons.
Hydrocarbons emitted by automobiles create smog, which in turn acts as a ground level ozone
layer and causes many health

  • 2. Untested Rape Boxs Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from the back burner. While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may leave some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and the general public. In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some kits dating back to as early as 1999. The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in 2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... But, as reported by the Salt Lake Police Department, of the 586 processed kits 89 of the matches led to 63 possible investigations. Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District Attorney for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to three perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country. The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits will remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with statistics being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits would aid in a greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be beneficial? According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual assault exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can also hold up in court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the collected DNA evidence is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). So if a perpetrator is not convicted and they do reoffend, their DNA is on file making it easier to connect to future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One trait can be described as consistency while the other trait usually describes an individual being different from their neighbors. Vollrath and Torgersen argue that the extraversion and neuroticism traits are substantially present among individuals who are likely to participate in risky health behaviors such as smoking, excessive drinking and drunk driving, drug use and sexual behaviors that risks the overall wellbeing of a person or a person who lacks both of the following traits in larger quantities. (Carver Schreier, 2012) People with high levels of extraversion seemingly engage with and enjoy being with other people and often are the assertive ones in the group. People with high levels of neuroticism react differently in situations of stress, oftentimes unable to cope with situations. Torgersen (1995) proposed a typology defined as priori (p.288). This typology represents the possible combinations of the Big Three personality factors, which result in eight unique types (Vollrath Torgersen, 2008). Research Paper On Shared Intention Gilbert s account of shared intention In Gilbert s (2009) paper, Shared Intention and Personal Intentions, she had given a clear statement about shared intention that it is an action acted by agents together as a body in the future plans. The first step to share intention is to have an agreement between agents. They usually shared their intention literally and expressed by a shared intention sentences of form We intend to do A , We are going to do A , and so on. They may also use the sentences of form like We intend that... to show their shared intention on thought. Under this criterion , the concurrence of all agents is required to change or rescind the shared intention, or to release an agent from participating in the action, without special understanding backgrounds (Gilbert, 2009). We can use Liam and Gary case to illustrate this criterion more. If Gary suddenly do not want to go to supermarket, instead, he want to go to bank on their way to supermarket, Gary could not leave unless Liam agree with it. This is because Gary had an agreement with Liam that they would go to supermarket together this afternoon. If Gary quit the action, he would betray their agreement and broke their shared intention. On the other hand, however, if Gary gives an understanding background to Liam in the first place, that is Gary told Liam that he may go to bank this afternoon when they are achieving the agreement, Gary can feel free to go without agreed by Liam. Certainly, one can also make their own decision not to do according to the shared intention, but it doesn t mean that they had changed or rescind or quit from the shared intention (Gilbert, ... Free market conservatives welfare state defending liberals alike have supported deep cuts in these payments to farmers. In many peoples eyes, farmers are wealthier than the average American. So why should farmers get tens of billions of dollars each year in the form of federal aid? According to the authors of the Farm Bill, there would be bold cuts in some of these controversial subsidyprograms. The opposition to the Farm Bill argued that cutting/eliminating one big subsidy altogether would save taxpayers a total of approximately $23 billion over a period of ten years. However, according to the Congressional Budget Office, total government aid to farmers will swell to $24 by this year (2017). Another one of the major themes is War . Machiavelli explains how to use the methods of offense and defense in a war if a princes foundation is stable for four chapters. Finally, Reputation is a theme of The Prince. Throughout the last twelve chapters Machiavelli explains how you should act to keep in favor of your citizens. 3. The role of armies is to maintain its country s defense through fortifications. This ensures security and stops enemies from attacking a prince s country. 4. Machiavelli s advice is more realistic. He writes the real truth of the matter than to its imagination , compared to other writers that have, have imagined republics and principalities which have never been seen or known to exist in reality . 5. Machiavelli says it is better for a prince to be both feared and loved, because men will love at free will and fear at the will of their prince, but a prince must rely solely on his power that he already has. It is possible for a prince to be both. A prince could show love by giving constant support for many of the citizens of his country, but should also be feared because he should give consequences to citizens who do not follow the rules of the country. 6. In addition, I will explore the definition of freedom, how the power of government is also limited and how these limitations fit into the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Aristotle. There should be limits to freedom because unlimited freedom can endanger the liberties of others. Without limits to freedom, individuals can use their natural rights to cause harm and hurt others. Freedom, as defined as by John Locke, is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of men. In Locke s Second Treatise on Civil Government, the philosopher theorizes on the limitations of freedom. To begin with, Locke makes the critical point that in the state of nature men are perfectly free to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and themselves, in any way they like, without asking anyone s permission. However this freedom is subject only to limits set by the law of nature. Locke believes that the limitations to freedom are dictated by the law of nature. In Locke s view, everyone is equal in the state of nature, with the same advantages and privileges. Therefore, no individual has the right to abuse the liberty of others, even if they have the freedom and ability to do so. This abuse, termed as license, exists outside the state of nature and Locke believes that this power is not granted to anyone. This is especially important when considering the power of the government. For Locke, the power of the government must be limited to the laws of nature. Once the government starts acting outside the laws of nature, the government becomes illegitimate. Aristotle also feels that freedom should be used for the peace and prosperity of others. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, there exists two different types of freedom: positive and negative. Negative freedom is the freedom from something, such as barriers or government coercion. Positive freedom, which is recommended by Aristotle, is the freedom to pursue an end. For Aristotle, the ideal end is a complete life, full of virtue. Because of the nature of both chemicals used in the drug mixture, a speedball has an extremely high risk of physical dependence and can cause powerful withdrawal symptoms. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors. Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Methods Of Learning Algorithms For Groups Based On Their... 2.1.3 CLUSTERING: Among the available clustering methods, K Means algorithm is generally used to divide learners into natural groups based on their behavior for a larger dataset. In the K Means clustering method, the number of clusters, denoted by K is needed to be predefined to apply the technique. This is one of the simplest and the most used unsupervised learning algorithm for clustering. The procedure follows a simple and easy way to classify a given data set through a certain number of clusters (assume k clusters) fixed a priori. The main idea is to define k centers, one for each cluster. These centers should be placed in a cunning way because of different location causes different result. So, the better choice is to place them as much as possible far away from each other. The next step is to take each point belonging to a given data set and associate it to the nearest center. When no point is pending, the first step is completed and an early group age is done. At this point we need to re calculate k new centroids as barycenter of the clusters resulting from the previous step. After we have these k new centroids, a new binding has to be done between the same data set points and the nearest new center. A loop has been generated. As a result of this loop we may notice that the k centers change their location step by step until no more changes are done or in other words centers do not move any more. Abstract When a large magnitude earthquake strikes, roads might buckle, dams sometimes fail, and buildings can collapse. As more earthquakes occur, building regulations have been altered to ensure that buildings experience minimal damage. The Trans Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS), which transports oil from Prudhoe Bay to the Gulf of Alaska, had engineering in place so when the earthquake struck the Denali fault in Alaska in 2002, the pipeline didn t leak any oil (Nyman, Johnson, and Roach, 2003). The success of the pipeline came from its supporting structures. The engineering used in the TAPS should be applied to buildings in areas that are also prone to large magnitude earthquakes, such as Washington and California. California is home to the San Andreas fault, a major transform fault, just like the Denali, and Washington is home to the Seattle Basin, whose geometry and geological units amplify main and aftershock waves. Washington and California should first implement better building regulations, and if the premise is successful, it could be applied anywhere large magnitude earthquakes occur. I will examine the three views one gets if accepts two and denies the third. I will specifically argue that qualia causes behavior, with the view Interactionist qualia dualism is the most plausible of the three views. With the three theses not all a through c can be true. Qualia, such things as sensations like tastes, smells, pains, etc. If one accepts (b) , then qualia are nonphysical. If one accepts (c), then there is something nonphysical causing something physical (behavior). We deny (a) because by accepting (c) then something nonphysical is causing behavior. Therefore, CCP is false. This view is IQD, Interactionist qualia dualism. Qualia causes behavior and the physical world causes qualia; and qualia are nonphysical. Someone might think (a) is true because our experience strongly suggests it s true. Someone might think (b) is true because Mary learns a new fact when she leaves her room and sees something red for the first time. It is found when the tumour begins to grow and cause symptoms. Sometimes the tumour forms before birth during the growth of the fetus whilst in the womb. This tumour is found during a fetal ultrasound. Neuroblastoma often begins in the abdomen affecting the nerve tissues of the adrenal gland. There are two adrenal glands, positioned one on top of each kidney in the back of the upper abdomen. The adrenal glands produce and secret important hormones that help control heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, and the way the body reacts to stress or danger. (National Cancer Institute, 2014) They also control the function of other tissues, organs and glands in your body to maintain homeostasis during stress. Although the adrenal gland is the most common area of the body neuroblastoma begins at, the tumour may also grow and spread to other part of the body, such as the bones, liver, and skin. The tumour is spread through the blood and lymphatic system. The adrenal gland has two part of the organ which consist of the outer cortex and the inner medulla. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What really happens is that there are hydrocarbon atoms left over from the combustion process because they did not burn properly or at all. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. All of these pollutants effect the environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a look at what exactly these pollutants do to us. The most dangerous and widespread of all pollutants are hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons emitted by automobiles create smog, which in turn acts as a ground level ozone layer and causes many health ...
