Seventh Circle In Dante s Inferno
Drew Anderson
ELA 12
Dante
In The Inferno by Dante Alighieri, Dante is led down through hell by the ancient poet Virgil. As
he descends through hell he progressively sees people who committed worse and worse crimes.
Because of this we are able to see into the mind of Dante; and therefore, understand his thoughts on
the volatility of the crimes committed. Personally I believe because of Dante being screwed in his
own life plus the many backward thoughts of the time; Dante is much too harsh on humanity and
he sends far too many people to hell.
Dante s first circle is called Limbo. Limbo is just on the cusp of hell. People in Dante s limbo are
not tortured and crying out they are just sighing because they lack hope of a better life. No
tortured wailing rose to greet us here but sounds of sighing rose from every side. (canto IV) Limbo
holds all people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The seventh circle is for those who were violent. This includes people where violent against
themselves because those violent against themselves denied their human form they are shown as
trees in The Inferno, Puzzled I broke off a thorn: and the great trunk of it cried out. (canto 13 pg.
120) The eighth circle is for people who claimed to be prophets but weren t, people who stole,
people who lie, and people who seduced others. The final circle of hell is for four men, Satan who
betrayed god, Judas who betrayed Christ, and for those who betrayed Caesar.
Dante ranks sins very differently than I would as well. Personally I believe he is much too harsh.
I believe that limbo, heresy, and a portion of the lustful should not even be on the list. Limbo
should be removed because these people did not even have a chance to make it to heaven. Heresy
should be removed because most protestants were indoctrinated into their religion and really never
had a choice in what religion they were. People who were lustful but did not commit adultery
should not be sent to

Korean American Language
The limits of my language are the limits of my world. Ludwig Wittgenstein I am a Korean
American, meaning that while my ethnicity is Korean, my nationality is American. This
circumstance of my birth determined, unconsciously, the way I would live for a long time. I
was born and raised in the city of Loma Linda, California, and was raised there for six years.
Korean was the first language I officially learned; however, English soon dominated my tongue
because I began attending English speaking preschool and kindergarten. My brain soon was
washed of the words I had known and had been left with basic Korean terms behind like umma
(mom) and appa (dad). Little did I know how much I would regret losing the language I had
inherited. Upon my dad s graduation from Loma Linda University as a dentist, when I was six,
we moved to Texas, because my dad had (previously) enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In the small
town of Wichita Falls, there were very few Asians, let alone Koreans. It was there that I began to
become fully immersed within the English language and the American culture. However, the Air
Force moved us to Korea a year later, to the home of my ancestors. By then, I considered myself an
American, no longer a Korean. I still attended an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dangerous Places In Virginia
Places of Danger
There happen to be many dangerous places in Virginia one including Richmond, a place many
teens happen to go on the weekend for activities like shopping for example. Also occasionally
teens go to Newport News to the mall, and both Richmond and Newport News are very crowded
and not well monitored areas due to all the people. Every person is able to have damage done to
them, but females are more susceptible to assaults, kidnapping, and robbery. There happen to be
many types of crime, but there will only be a focus on murder, assault, and property damage. If
places were monitored better with more help for victims and their families, then the crime rate
would not be as high due to the attackers getting incarcerated, also if people had self control then
the crime rate would not be as high. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, Norfolk has been ranked number two and for them they have a high property damage
rate and ranked third for murder and Petersburg being ranked number five the highest rate for
them is assault (Grigson). As individuals can see the crimes to be talked about these are the top
three crimes in Virginia. One of the issues in Virginia can be seen in Petersburg just after 2am on
March 30,2017 at the 7 11 on 701 South Crater Road. It was started with an argument, but when the
victim turned to walk away he, was shot in the back seven to eight times. The case is still under

The Importance Of Keeping The Penny
Pennies existence makes cents! Have you ever thought about getting rid of the penny? If we get rid
of the penny, the cash register, bank, computers would have to be restarted. It also means forgetting
Abraham Lincoln. The National Treasury Department, the president, and other people who think
the penny is useless but is not. So we should do everything to save the penny! According to Greg
Peck, in his article he stated that Barack Obama said, We have been trying to eliminate the penny,
shows that Obama is against keeping the penny. But it will always come back. I need to find out
who is lobbying to keep the penny. Although President Obama does not want to keep the penny

The Issue Of Safety And Gun Control
Have you ever thought about the fact that in America, an 18 year old is old enough to buy a gun,
but not a beer? The concern of a gun crime being committed by a young man/woman is high, but
what if they want to go hunting with their father? It doesn t seem so bad now. Some people may
think that our President isn t effective enough, but there are too many people supporting each
side for the President to make a large, yet fair decision. There may be two sides to the story, but
what is the right option? This question of safety and gun control has become part of an on going
controversy due to views on The Constitution, the national gun control laws, as well as the fact that
most Americans would like an updated background checking system. The discussions about
citizens rights to bear arms go back to ancient times. Political theorists from ancient Rome, John
Locke of England, and Jean Jacques Rousseau of France viewed the possession of arms as a sign
of personal freedom and a crucial element of government. The precise meaning and purpose of the
Second Amendment has been an issue of major controversy. Gun control supporters argue that
when the Second Amendment was adopted in 1791, each state enabled a militia, composed of
ordinary citizens who served as part time soldiers. Fearing that the federal government would use its
army to force its will on the states, the authors of the Second Amendment intended to protect the
state militias right to bear arms. As stated in modern times

Why Is Porphyria s Suicide Under Temporary Insanity
The Insanity Behind Love: A Case About Temporary Insanity
There has been many court cases where a mentally ill individual commits a killing without the
notion of harming their victim because, they lacked the perception to think logically when they re
found under overwhelming emotion. The poem Porphyria s Lover, by Robert Browning describes
the crime scene where the narrator felt compelled to kill his mistress named Porphyria in spite of
her demonstration of affection and care. Yet, there is enough evidence to illustrate that the suspect
was actually under temporary insanity since he revealed signs of emotional distress concerning his
place with Porphyria. The narrator in Porphyria s lover is not guilty by the plea of temporary
insanity; he displays four characteristics found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jason in a huge way as he is not able to cope with the loss, and becomes hated by the parents of

look at this poem as a celebration of Rome, an effort to hold on to what might be forgotten. Seen
as a festive occasion, this poem could be regarded as an anticipation of things to come. I prefer to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Starting A Joint Venture
As it has said, there are very good reasons to decide starting a Joint Venture. Joint ventures as a

to spread the risk between the venture partners. The co ventures agree to share profits and losses

iii) The hypotheses of interest concern the interaction parameter ОІ10. Specifically, H0: ОІ10 = 0
Ha: ОІ10 0 Test statistic: t = 1.378, p value = 0.170, respectively. The lower tailed p value,
obtained by dividing the two tailed p value in half, is 0.170/2 = 0.085. Since we are testing using
О± = 0.1, О± exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of
the sale price of the condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3)
decreases ; that is x2 and x3 interact positively. Thus, it appears that the interaction term should
be included in the model. Therefore the new multiple regression model is: E(y) = 198.934 6.474

Creditors because they will get an idea on whether the business will be able to pay off the Debt. The
disadvantages of Accounting Ratio, it does not provide overall business performance and it is only
analysed in figures. Accounting Ratio is a least useful tools because it does not analyse the
previous performance where the business is mainly concern about future information. Ratio

Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1.History of opioid research
Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This
field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German
pharmacist Friedrich SertГјrner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine
after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second
predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as
anesthetic in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993).
In 1898, the Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was
a non prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing
analgesia, and more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin
was suspended in 1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001,
Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939, Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not
related to morphine. This was followed by the discovery of methadone by Max BochmГјhl and
Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction
free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova, 2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid
antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. The later compound is still widely used in research as well
as clinically

Child Recovery
What is the Role of Education in the Recovery of a Child?
Often, when a child is ill or needs behavioral health treatment, education is the last thing on a
guardian s mind. They re focused on the day to day management of their child s care:
communicating with doctors and nurses and easing their child s fears during his or her hospital stay.
During and after treatment, the focus is on the child s recovery so they can go back to being a kid:

Many student patients must miss extended periods of school, becoming disconnected from their
education and social life. They may feel that their teachers and friends have forgotten about them.
Some may become depressed and have anxiety about returning to school after treatment. So, it s
important they stay engaged. KidsHealth authors recommend that student patients stay connected
via online social networking sites, email, instant message, text messaging, and talking on the phone
with classmates, friends, and teachers. They also state that staying connected to school bring
academic, cognitive, psychological, and social benefits.
There are numerous reasons why children must be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Some
kids may be battling cancer and need chemo. Others may need to visit the hospital a few days a
month for kidney dialysis. A child with a disability may need regular physical therapy treatment.
On the other side, children who struggle with a mental, social, or behavioral illness, like bipolar
disorder, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may miss school for extended
periods of time to treat or manage their condition and minimize stressors.
According to an article on Nationwide Children s, stress is a common part of every child s life. A

Moral Education In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee touches on many important sensitive topics such as racism,
rape, and moral education. The children in the story learn and develop after experiencing the
trial of Tom Robinson. They see the way people treat African Americans and are disgusted by it.
They realize that a lot of the people in their town are racist bigots while others are actually kind
and innocent. People are blind to this until their eyes are opened from an experience. In the
beginning of the story, Scout is close minded and naive to the real world around her. She never
thinks about how other people are feeling or thinking. For example, Walter Cunningham
accidentally embarrassed Scout in class about not having enough money to buy lunch. So, to
get back at him, at recess, she attacked Walter and shoved his nose into the ground.. Scout s
brother, Jem, invites Walter over for lunch as a way to apologize for Scout s actions.
Unexpectedly, Walter pours syrup all over his ner plate of food. I asked what in the sam hill he
was doing... Atticus shook his head at me again. Buts he s gone and drowned his dinner in
syrup. (24). Scout does not think about how that would make him feel or how other people may
like their food in other ways than she does. Another example is when Scout spent the summer
making up games and joking about Boo Radley. She had never met him before and didn t even
know what he is like. Yet she felt no remorse by making fun of him. How do you know a match
don t hurt him Turtles can t feel stupid said Jem. (14). In this quote they are referring to Boo
Radley as a turtle. Almost like he isn t a person at all. But just a slow, quiet animal. Atticus, her
father, is a big influence in Scout s perception of the world. But she and Jem are awfully
unappreciative of him. Jem was football crazy. Atticus was never too tired to play keep away, but
when Jem wanted to tackle him Atticus would say, I m too old for that, son. (118). Jem would
complain about how he couldn t play with him and Scout doesnt think of him as courageous. That
is why when they saw him shoot the rabid dog, they had more true respect for him. As young
oblivious kids, they wouldn t think that courage is anything else but

The Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase Agreement
In the year 1803, the United States government through the Louisiana Purchase Agreement agreed
to expand its territories by the acquisition of Louisiana from the French government. At the
aforementioned period, the French led by Napoleon had control over the territory and all the
resources that fell under the territory. Presided over during the Thomas Jefferson administration, the
deal cost the United Statesa whopping fifty million Francs. However, it is important to understand
that the Louisianaagreement was a step towards the right direction in placing the United States as
an international economic hub then and today. The agreement idea was crafted by Thomas
Jefferson who believed in the idea that expansion of the newly formed United States territories
would give it an upper hand politically and economically. During that period, the Mississippi River
was a viable spot that many nations sought to have control over. The river formed a passage to the
Atlantic Ocean in which the United States would be linked to other worlds such as Europe, Asia
and Africa.
To be exact, Thomas Jefferson appealed for the purchase of Louisiana since the port of New
Orleans was a viable spot that linked the United States to the outside world. It should be clear that
the agreement has brought more good and harm and is the main reason as to why the United States
is a major economic hub. After acquisition of Louisiana, the United States exports and imports
increased drastically. With the

Global Warming is a Hoax Essay
The essay opens up with McKibben talking about how the political campaign against global
warming is flawed because at our current point there is nothing much that can be done to fix
it.(Mckibben,1) He then goes to state that humans are the biggest culprit behind global warming
and supports this by giving examples such as SUVs and American ignorance.(2,9) He concludes
by saying that if ten percent of America were to go green, it still would not save the planet, but ten
percent could get the government s attention to pass laws making everyone go green. (11)
To start my response, I am of a personal belief that global warming is a hoax. Over the course of my
education, many of the arguments for global warming have been disproven to me. My ... Show more

Rising water temperatures actually have beneficial effects on coral. It is like leaving a plant in
the sun. I watched a documentary where the famous marine biologist, Jean Michel Cousteau,
talks about the Great Barrier Reef and how temperature affects it. Normally it sits comfortably
between 85 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures lower than 70 can cause the coral to turn
white and die. However, after the existing coral dies, new coral grows on top of it and the cycle
starts again. Aside from this this, coral has been known to adapt to survive in waters where the
temperature can get below 60 or rise above 90. So the coral population is in no real danger.
Another point he makes is that Polar bears are getting scrawnier because the seal habitat has
declined because global warming causes the ice to melt. This is false. A common fact global
warming supporters forget to mention is that arctic and Antarctic snowfall replenish the ice each
year. Polar bears and seals are more in danger of poaching than losing their habitat to global
warming. Both species are on the endangered list. However, weighing anywhere between 775 to

Is It Ethical To Commit Suicide
Is it ethical to commit suicide? If you re having a bad time and you think you will not be able to
get out of a really bad situation, then you should kill yourself. What is the reasoning behind this
point of view? What makes us think that serenity and peace will come and embrace us if we take

is wrong or right, or under what circumstances could it be right?

sizes to ensure that you re making the right choice. Most manufacturers usually produce all sizes

King
The king sized mattress is literally what it name implies. Based on its dimensions the standard

out of those three trials two trials were based off of the given evidence that was tamperd with

How Liquidity Is Linked With Price Momentum
The problem this study attempts to solve is to investigate how liquidity is linked with price
momentum in the emerging markets. This descriptive research aims at estimating the price
momentum of the stocks in the selected emerging countries considering the liquidity dimensions.
To fulfil the research purpose, the following researchquestions will be tested.
Q1. What is the relationship between relative bid ask spread dimension of liquidity and price
momentum in emerging markets?
Q2. What is the relationship between volatility dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Q3. What is the relationship between turnover dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Q4. What is the relationship between volume dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Answers to the research questions will clarify whether the dimensions of liquidity predict abnormal
profits from momentum strategies in emerging countries. The questions attempt to establish a
relationship, if any, between the dimensions of liquidity and price momentum. Each of the liquidity
dimensions is expected to be negatively correlated with momentum profits. Less liquid stocks
should yield higher returns, as the investors expect to be compensated for taking risks of not being
able to sell stocks quickly.

various reasons. First, the research problem of identifying the

United for One
In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first one. Chapter
one is all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason chapter one is my favorite is
because she reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants to part from her parents and stay in the
United States of America. Her choice came with the consequences of her parents and sister not
communicating with her again if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still
communicate about the family until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of
why this is my favorite is because I can relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to
me moving out at too young of an age. I moved to the city to be closer to work and school but in
his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I think I relate most to Luma. There are other reasons why
I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the whole book, Luma never wants to give up. For
example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when Luma knows she has to find a new field for her fugeesto
play on. According to St John, on page 93, the YMCA calls and lets Luma know they found a
field for her. She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma always wanted the best for her players.
I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number one struggle I never give up on is
my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly doesn t care about anyone s
negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to Luma. Just

Can Polar Ice Cap Be Prevented
The melting of polar ice caps can be prevented. This is a serious issue. Polar ice caps melting will
cause the earth to warm rapidly, because the UV light will not have anything to reflect off of and
bounce back to space. Along with global warming, and the melting polar ice caps, the earth will be
warmed sufficiently by 2036 if the burning of fossil fuels is not stopped, or even slowed by a small
percentage. Polar ice caps are solid land masses with ice covering the whole land mass. The land
mass does not have to be a certain size to qualify as a polar ice cap. Research says that a polar ice
cap can be qualified as a polar ice cap if it is a solid land mass coved in ice. Ice caps here on earth
are made from water, but on other planets such as Mars the ice caps consist of other things than
just water. On Mars the ice caps are formed from water, ice, and carbon dioxide. They form from
the elevation the ice caps have, and from the lack of radiation from the sun. The melting of polar
ice caps can be prevented by reducing the amounts of greenhouse gasses that are pumped into the
environment daily, and that means that we need to slow the burning and consumption of our fossil
fuels. The United States cannot stop this alone, so countries need to work together and help prevent

Essay on Environmental Economics and Government Policy
Economists often talk about letting the economy work through the mechanism of the free market
versus government control and regulation. Some believe that if the market is allowed to do its
thing unprohibited and without government interference, then resources will be allocated
efficiently, equilibrium will be found, and so on... However, this is not always possible. Of course,
government controlis not perfect either. Thus, it would seem that at times the market may be more
appropriate than the government; other times the government may be needed because the market is
not able to function properly; and other times a combination of the two working in unison may
provide the best and most effective and efficient answers.

Property rights that would lead to efficient allocations have four main characteristics: universality,
exclusivity, transferability, and enforceability. Universality is when all resources are privately
owned and the entitlements are specified. Exclusivity refers to the fact that all benefits and costs
due to owning and using the resource should be directed solely at the owner. Transferability refers
to the fact that all property rights should be transferable from one owner to another in voluntary
exchange. And finally, enforceability simply means that all property rights should be secure from
involuntary seizure by others. With all of these in place, one would certainly use a resource
efficiently because a decline in the value of the resource would represent a personal loss.
Furthermore, individuals will only buy as much of something so that the marginal cost is equal to
the marginal benefit that they receive from purchasing it. And thus, with these defined property
rights in place the market indeed would prevail.
Environmental problems are one important class of circumstances in which the market economic
system is not always efficient. This occurs most especially because of the presence of externalities,
and the fact that the agents making the decisions do not bear

Albert Bandura s Theory Of Observational Learning
Intro
Today, I will be talking about the famous psychologist Albert Bandura.
Who is Albert Bandura
We have obviously learned about him in the previous unit, so can anyone refresh our memories of
who he is and what did he do. Yes, it s the guy who conducted the Bobo doll experiment which
reflected how children saw the adults beating up the doll, and when the kids went in, they did the
same, which proves his theory of observational learning.
Also, do you remember the 4 processes of observation:
For example: you watch someone ride a bike which is ATTENTION
Then you when get on a bike you re supposed to remember what the person did which is
RETENTION
Then you try to ride the bike which is the act of REPRODUCTION
And finally, if you re actually MOTIVATED to ride the bike, only then you would do so, otherwise
not which is MOTIVATION
Now as we have refreshed what we learned in the course, I m going to teach you something new
about him
Timeline of Events
So first here s a timeline of his life events
So he was born on December 4, 1925 , and graduated with a degree in psychology from British
Columbia in the year of 1949. He then received his PhD in clinical psychology from the Iowa

Although the most popular, the commercial film industry is not the only way to produce and

East Asian religious texts are filled with numerous valuable lessons that 21st century readers can
now all access. Moreover, two Classical Japanese texts, known as The Tale of Genji and The
Account of my Ten Foot Square Hut, both include the two main themes of attachment and suffering
within their stories. The Tale of Genji, was written by Murasaki Shikibu, a famous Japanese female
author, who began writing this story in 1001 during the Heain period that ranged from 794 1185
(Theme 9 Lecture 2, Mar.16). The tale follows an imperial prince, named Hikaru Genji, who
secretly visits his foster mother, a sick nun. He immediately gets distracted by the house next door
that belonged to a group of ladies. He approaches the fence and becomes enthralled... Show more

His descriptions of such events that he witnessed in his lifetime from hunger, poverty, and
sickness clearly embody suffering. The city that is filled with impurity and attachments could be
the cause of the natural disasters that include chaos and death, which a simple life renouncing in
nature could avoid (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Furthermore, the population s suffering can
symbolize the city as a whole that does not allow for one to discover one s buddha nature, hidden
within each of us (Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Realizing one s buddha nature would demand one
s mind to be cleared of all delusions and attachments to exhibit the possibility to become the
Buddha ( The Dalai Lama: On Buddha Nature. ;Theme 9 Lecture 3, Mar.19). Therefore, by
retrieving in a hut that is distant from the city could allow oneself to eliminate these sources of
suffering composed of one s clinging to attachments creating impermanent delusions in our lives,
briefly explained by a Chinese hermit in modern day China in the documentary, called Amongst
White Clouds ( Amongst White Clouds , 27:00). This proves that the positive and negative
distinction between nature and the city still exists in 21 century East Asian religions (Theme 9
Lecture 3, Mar.19)

Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) includes objects which communicate across a variety of networks. Things
in terms of Internet of Things (IoT) encompass all those devices which have the ability to sense and
/or control and transfer data between other devices using existing network technologies. Some of
the examples are routers, switches, security cameras, control systems used in gas stations etc. This
paper begins with an introduction on IoT. As IoT includes thousands of devices, we have restricted
our scope to security cameras. Our paper discusses in detail the vulnerabilities existing in today s
security cameras, different ways in which cyber criminals can take advantage of these weaknesses
and the measures that can be taken to strengthen security in cameras.
Introduction
The world is getting smarter and better and so are the devices. With the improved technology, we
can check our mails on our watch; control our home temperature through our smartphone and much
more. The term Internet of Things is referred to any object or device which connects to the Internet
to automatically send and/or receive data [1].
The following are some of the IoT devices [1]:
пЃ¶Security systems, for example security alarms, CCTV cameras or baby monitors.
пЃ¶Automated devices that remotely or automatically adjust lighting or air conditioning

Research Paper On Ergonomics
1. Introduction
Ergonomics is an interdisciplinary field of study that seeks to design tools and equipment for
optimizing the interface between humans and systems [1]. Ergonomics is also known as the
process of understanding and improving human communications with types of products, equipment,
environments, and systems. Ergonomics principles are used to improve the fit between the worker
and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics improvement are divided into two broad categories
which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and cognitive issues, such as mental
overload and confusing displays [2].
Many theories, principles, methods, and data relevant to the workstation design have been
generated through ergonomics research over the years. Poor workstation design can lead to
fatigued, frustrated, and hurting workers [3]. As a result, the productivity of the product and quality
will decrease [4].
Often in an industry, the workstation is designed in an arbitrary manner [1], giving little
consideration to the anthropometric measurements of the anticipated user. Small changes in
workstation dimension can have a considerable impact on worker productivity, and occupational
health and safety. Inadequate posture from an improperly designed workstation causes static
muscle efforts and then eventually resulting in acute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

History Of The FASB
Jocelyn: What is the FASB?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is a non profit association that designs and
updates the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAPs). These rigorous accounting
principles are used in the private sector during the preparation of mandatory financial reports that
are given to shareholders, the public or government agencies.
How Did the FASB Originate?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board was established in 1973 by the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC). Previously, there were semi standard accounting principles that were overseen
by the Accounting Principles Board (APB), which was part of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA). However, unstandardized accounting... Show more content on

For example, the business entity means that commercial expenses are kept separate from personal
expenses and the monetary unit is generally the U.S. dollar. Next, there are four basic principles
that cover historic costs, revenue recognition, matching and full disclosure. For instance, the
historical cost principle mandates that companies report their asset and liability acquisition costs
instead of reporting the fair market value. On the other hand, the revenue recognition principle
states that companies must only record earned revenue, not received revenue. This forms the basis
of accrual basis accounting. Finally, there are four basic constraints, which include objectivity,
materiality, consistency and conservatism. To illustrate, the objectivity principle mandates that
financial statements produced by the company s accountants must be based on factual evidence.
Conversely, the consistency principle means that the company must use the same accounting
methodology for every accounting period. Overall, the GAAP provides structured consistency and
transparency to all aspects of accounting and financial

The Ballet Physique as Molded by Media Essay
mass media is one of the principal factors behind body dissatisfaction, concerns about weight, and
disordered eating behavior ( Levine, Murnen 2009).
The media acts as an influential force where society s views of body image and health are used to
brainwash the minds of its consumers. The constant pressure exuded by the media affects many
individuals in society. Whether it is an ad on a passing bus, or a commercial broadcasted into
family homes, the media finds its way to penetrate and convey certain perceptions of body and
health. Women are predominantly affected by this narrow view. Particularly looking at female ballet
dancers, the media portrays a one sided view of the ballet physique, broadcasting a restricted
ideology to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Balanchine s preferences have had far reaching influence. (76) Gelsey Kirkland, a soloist at the
New York City Ballet was known to have eating disorders, which were encouraged by Balanchine.
(Heiland, Murray, Edley 258). Balanchine forced a thin body type on Kirkland; she recalls in her
book that he stopped class to inspect her body:
With his knuckles, he thumped on my sternum and down my rib cage, clucking his tongue,
remarking, Must see the bones. I was less than a hundred pounds even then. He did not merely
say, Eat less. He said repeatedly, Eat nothing. (1986, 55 6) (Heiland, Murray, Edley 258)
This image of the desired ballet body has been a demand by artistic directors, yet the media has
allowed the public to become more aware of it. The fact that anyone has access to this
information through the World Wide Web, creates a consciousness of the issue. Having seen the
desired image of a ballet body, now we can delve deeper into the way media is molding this
representation. Through her journal, Frozen landscapes: a Foucauldian genealogy of the ideal
ballet dancer s body, Heather Ritenburg examines the body image of a modern ballerina, in
correlation with magazine articles targeting weight loss. In these articles, the reader s body shape
is talked about as something to be changed to the desired physique of a ballerina. This shines a
light on the physique of a ballet dancer, reiterating the media s portrayal of the

Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie...
Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain.
The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very
great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life.
Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was
drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these
changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all
were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the
movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie
they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where
Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of
him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to
actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs,
when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he
has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t
mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. Another major difference between the
poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s mother is never slain in the

Domestic Terrorism Vs International Terrorism Analysis
Terrorism is a violent act that is planned and committed to cause terror in the people while trying
to achieve political goals. In the Prologue Magazine article of John Brown the author states,
Terrorists may hope for political change, but what they often want is to simply strike back at and
harm those they oppose (Finkelman, 2011). Terrorismis something that can happen in any country
because there are people who disagree with another s beliefs or political views. Terrorists usually
target civilians or non military folk because they aren t able to defend themselves against an attack.
They are also not concerned with how much damage they cause; they will use anything from a
bomb to guns.

The Department of Homeland Security for Immigration Essay
According to the Department of Homeland Security Immigration Website (USCIS), undocumented
Mexican individuals come to our country by illegally crossing the border or by initially having a
visa and staying after the visa has expired. In most cases if an undocumented individual would like
to apply for a green card, they must do so while residing in Mexico which is what keeps many
undocumented people from applying. There are approximately 12 million undocumented
immigrants in the U.S. It s interesting that immigrationlaw takes place within the U.S. Department
of Justice instead of the U.S. judicial system because deportation is seen as an administrative
correction and not a criminal punishment. Because of this, undocumented immigrants... Show more

each year (USCIS).
There are 226,000 family sponsored visas, 140,000 employment based visas available each year.
There is no limit for immediate family members such as spouses and children younger than 21. Due
to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, the number of Mexican immigrant visas can only
equal 7 percent of the total permanent residents or green cards issued each year. The backlog for
permanent resident applications in pending status is approximately 1.4 million (Smith).
Mexican immigrants are excluded from the Diversity Lottery which grants immigrant visas to
50,000 winners each year. The lottery was designed to help increase the number of immigrations
from underrepresented countries like Nigeria, Iran, and Ukraine. The countries qualified to apply
for the lottery change each year (USCIS).
After having a green card or immigrant visa for 3 5 years, depending on circumstance, one can
apply for citizenship. The main reasons to apply for citizenship would be the right to vote in
elections, bringing family members to the U.S., eligibility for Federal jobs, and becoming an
elected official (USCIS).

In the past when I would think of Kenya I would think of wild animals, African tribes, and AIDS.

believe in hard work.
The people of Kenya have gone though many changes since gaining their independence in 1963.

by building more schools.

Kenya s Location and Climate
Kenya is situated right along the equator, on the eastern coast of Africa. Its coastal region is
southeast, and to the east lays Somalia. Ethiopia is to the north, the Sudan to the northwest, and
Uganda directly to the west. The southwestern border of the country is marked by Lake Victoria,
and southward lays Tanzania.
Kenya s coastal area is hot and humid tropical region. Beautiful sandy beaches, lagoons and
swamps, and patches of rain forest line the coast. Inland, a vast plains area stretches over about
three fourths of Kenya. Its extremely dry climate and generally poor soil support only scattered
plant life. The highlands in the southwest receive enough rainfall and offer enough fertile soil to
support extensive farming ( Kenya ).

Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar
The importance of speech is a necessity when it comes to becoming a great leader his/her words
can make or break their position in the eyes of their people. This is where rhetoric can be
significant in this leader s life their knowledge of rhetoric can drastically improve or dismantle
their career. Shakespeare s ability to slowly mold leaders out of insignificant characters proves to
be a very entertaining . Introducing a character that shows little or no traits of a natural born
leaders and putting them in situations that forces them to reveal how much of an actual leader they
actually are. This is what intrigues about some of shakespeare s plays his ability to develop a
character and place him in this leadershipposition that ends up being a perfect fit for them. One
character that was probably seen as a unlikely leader and was slowly pushed into a position where
his leadership would be of the highest significance to revenge the murder of his friend was in
Shakespeare s play Julius CaesarAntony is introduced to us as one of caesar s most trusted and
later revealed truest friend this loyalty can be seen as one of the most important leadership traits
that antony has. Him being able to stay loyal to his friend even in the worst of circumstances.
However even though his friendship is a vital role and a fundamental reason that he is put in the
spotlight it does not cement him as a key influential leader. The trait that establishes Antony as a

Love and Desire in Twelfth Night Essay
According to Merriam Webster s Collegiate Dictionary, love is defined as strong affection for
another arising out of kinship or personal ties; attraction based on sexual desire; affection and
tenderness felt by lovers; affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interest; or an
assurance of love. In William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, three different types of love are
experienced: friendship love, true love, and self love. Each character experiences a different type
of love, and in some cases it is not what they originally expected. The twisted, yet intriguing love
story allows the reader to get lost in each characters emotions and development throughout the play.

asks Viola to speak with Olivia and professes his love to her, Viola lets the reader know what she is
truly feeling by saying Yet a barful strife! Whoe er I woo, myself would be his wife (Act 1,
Scene 4, Line 40). This shows that even though she is willing to help Orsino pursue Olivia,
Viola ultimately wants to marry Orsino. Viola s love for Orsino is revealed again at the end of
Act 2, Scene 4. Orsino is asking Viola to try harder in the quest for Olivia and he basically says
that there is no love more noble or great as his, so she must love him. Viola then proceeds to say

Say that some lady, as perhaps there is,

You tell her so; Must she not then be answered? (Act 2, scene 4, Lines 86 90)
This is Viola confessing her true feelings for Orsino. She is telling him that she is the one who

Effective Leaders Need Emotional And Social Intelligence
1.Refer to Ex. 2.5 below (and in text). You might also refer to the ppt. slides. Effective leaders
need emotional and social intelligence to be aware of their impact on subordinates. a.Give an
example of a leader who created an out group of followers through their behaviors and traits.
Identify and describe the specific behaviors as well as the leader s major traits that prevented
people from feeling like part of the in group . What were the consequences to employees (e.g.,
emotions, attitudes, motivation, etc.) and company? Former NFL head coach Buddy Ryan was
known for creating tension between the offense and defense. Coach Ryan was a defensive
coordinator before becoming a head coach, so he naturally favored the defensive unit. The out
group consisted of the offensive players and coaches, and the line between the two groups was
created by negative behaviors such as only talking to the defensive players, criticizing the
offensive coaches to the media, and a general culture of us versus them. Whenever a person is
named the head coach, their main responsibility is to bring all the players together to form one
collect group. The main consequences to the employees involved being treated as second class
citizens, an unstable work environment, and a lack of positive reinforcement. b.Given this same

Negative Effects Of Evictions
Eviction s Effects
Those who have experienced evictions are forced into multiple logistical housing situations. Due to
the stigma associated with a court ordered eviction, landlords would often engage in rent screenings
to ensure that potential renters not only have a clean criminal record but also an eviction free record
(Desmond, 2016). As Desmond discusses (2016), the landlord s double barrier screening is
shielding their neighborhood from criminality and poverty. Correspondingly, some landlords
knowingly do not engage in these screening practices as a business model to potentially profit off
of the poor (Desmond, 2012a). As the person who is evicted fall into the bottom of the rental
market, the housing fate of the evicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who are exposed to these housing insecure households are susceptible to low birth
weights, asthma, depression, behavioral issues, and educational delays (BARHII, 2016). In
addition, physical health can include being exposed to sexual harassment. Tester (2008) reports that
some landlords aware of a tenant s economic status and need for housing used their positional
authority to sexually coerce tenants. Unfortunately, due to housing availability, Tester s (2008)
work described female renters precarious situation as women failed to report the sexual harassment
due to fear of retaliation and housing needs.
Households that undergo eviction are at a 20% higher level of material hardship (Desmond, 2016,
293). Those who have undergone an eviction have a 15% chance of being terminated by their
employer (Desmond, 2016, p. 293). This potential financial burden can be magnified on account
that many lose their possessions as a result of the eviction and risk having to re obtain clothing,
appliances, and other items. As Desmond (2016) explains, evicted families working on securing
habitable housing would be forced into paying for storage that ran around $100 dollars per month
(p.132). Sometimes people would fall behind in paying for their items and would result in the
evicted individual not just losing their home, transportation costs, sometimes their job, the storage
rental, but now their

  • 2. Seventh Circle In Dante s Inferno Drew Anderson ELA 12 Dante In The Inferno by Dante Alighieri, Dante is led down through hell by the ancient poet Virgil. As he descends through hell he progressively sees people who committed worse and worse crimes. Because of this we are able to see into the mind of Dante; and therefore, understand his thoughts on the volatility of the crimes committed. Personally I believe because of Dante being screwed in his own life plus the many backward thoughts of the time; Dante is much too harsh on humanity and he sends far too many people to hell. Dante s first circle is called Limbo. Limbo is just on the cusp of hell. People in Dante s limbo are not tortured and crying out they are just sighing because they lack hope of a better life. No tortured wailing rose to greet us here but sounds of sighing rose from every side. (canto IV) Limbo holds all people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The seventh circle is for those who were violent. This includes people where violent against themselves because those violent against themselves denied their human form they are shown as trees in The Inferno, Puzzled I broke off a thorn: and the great trunk of it cried out. (canto 13 pg. 120) The eighth circle is for people who claimed to be prophets but weren t, people who stole, people who lie, and people who seduced others. The final circle of hell is for four men, Satan who betrayed god, Judas who betrayed Christ, and for those who betrayed Caesar. Dante ranks sins very differently than I would as well. Personally I believe he is much too harsh. I believe that limbo, heresy, and a portion of the lustful should not even be on the list. Limbo should be removed because these people did not even have a chance to make it to heaven. Heresy should be removed because most protestants were indoctrinated into their religion and really never had a choice in what religion they were. Ludwig Wittgenstein I am a Korean American, meaning that while my ethnicity is Korean, my nationality is American. This circumstance of my birth determined, unconsciously, the way I would live for a long time. I was born and raised in the city of Loma Linda, California, and was raised there for six years. Korean was the first language I officially learned; however, English soon dominated my tongue because I began attending English speaking preschool and kindergarten. My brain soon was washed of the words I had known and had been left with basic Korean terms behind like umma (mom) and appa (dad). Little did I know how much I would regret losing the language I had inherited. Upon my dad s graduation from Loma Linda University as a dentist, when I was six, we moved to Texas, because my dad had (previously) enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In the small town of Wichita Falls, there were very few Asians, let alone Koreans. It was there that I began to become fully immersed within the English language and the American culture. However, the Air Force moved us to Korea a year later, to the home of my ancestors. By then, I considered myself an American, no longer a Korean. I still attended an... • 9. The Issue Of Safety And Gun Control Have you ever thought about the fact that in America, an 18 year old is old enough to buy a gun, but not a beer? The concern of a gun crime being committed by a young man/woman is high, but what if they want to go hunting with their father? It doesn t seem so bad now. Some people may think that our President isn t effective enough, but there are too many people supporting each side for the President to make a large, yet fair decision. There may be two sides to the story, but what is the right option? This question of safety and gun control has become part of an on going controversy due to views on The Constitution, the national gun control laws, as well as the fact that most Americans would like an updated background checking system. The discussions about citizens rights to bear arms go back to ancient times. Political theorists from ancient Rome, John Locke of England, and Jean Jacques Rousseau of France viewed the possession of arms as a sign of personal freedom and a crucial element of government. The precise meaning and purpose of the Second Amendment has been an issue of major controversy. Gun control supporters argue that when the Second Amendment was adopted in 1791, each state enabled a militia, composed of ordinary citizens who served as part time soldiers. Fearing that the federal government would use its army to force its will on the states, the authors of the Second Amendment intended to protect the state militias right to bear arms. Specifically, H0: ОІ10 = 0 Ha: ОІ10 0 Test statistic: t = 1.378, p value = 0.170, respectively. The lower tailed p value, obtained by dividing the two tailed p value in half, is 0.170/2 = 0.085. Since we are testing using О± = 0.1, О± exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of the sale price of the condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3) decreases ; that is x2 and x3 interact positively. Thus, it appears that the interaction term should be included in the model. • 18. Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1.History of opioid research Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German pharmacist Friedrich SertГјrner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as anesthetic in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993). In 1898, the Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was a non prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing analgesia, and more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin was suspended in 1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001, Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939, Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not related to morphine. This was followed by the discovery of methadone by Max BochmГјhl and Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova, 2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. The children in the story learn and develop after experiencing the trial of Tom Robinson. They see the way people treat African Americans and are disgusted by it. They realize that a lot of the people in their town are racist bigots while others are actually kind and innocent. People are blind to this until their eyes are opened from an experience. In the beginning of the story, Scout is close minded and naive to the real world around her. She never thinks about how other people are feeling or thinking. For example, Walter Cunningham accidentally embarrassed Scout in class about not having enough money to buy lunch. So, to get back at him, at recess, she attacked Walter and shoved his nose into the ground.. Scout s brother, Jem, invites Walter over for lunch as a way to apologize for Scout s actions. Unexpectedly, Walter pours syrup all over his ner plate of food. I asked what in the sam hill he was doing... Atticus shook his head at me again. Buts he s gone and drowned his dinner in syrup. (24). Scout does not think about how that would make him feel or how other people may like their food in other ways than she does. Another example is when Scout spent the summer making up games and joking about Boo Radley. She had never met him before and didn t even know what he is like. Presided over during the Thomas Jefferson administration, the deal cost the United Statesa whopping fifty million Francs. The agreement idea was crafted by Thomas Jefferson who believed in the idea that expansion of the newly formed United States territories would give it an upper hand politically and economically. During that period, the Mississippi River was a viable spot that many nations sought to have control over. The river formed a passage to the Atlantic Ocean in which the United States would be linked to other worlds such as Europe, Asia and Africa. To be exact, Thomas Jefferson appealed for the purchase of Louisiana since the port of New Orleans was a viable spot that linked the United States to the outside world. I watched a documentary where the famous marine biologist, Jean Michel Cousteau, talks about the Great Barrier Reef and how temperature affects it. However, after the existing coral dies, new coral grows on top of it and the cycle starts again. Aside from this this, coral has been known to adapt to survive in waters where the temperature can get below 60 or rise above 90. So the coral population is in no real danger. Another point he makes is that Polar bears are getting scrawnier because the seal habitat has declined because global warming causes the ice to melt. This is false. Polar ice caps melting will cause the earth to warm rapidly, because the UV light will not have anything to reflect off of and bounce back to space. Along with global warming, and the melting polar ice caps, the earth will be warmed sufficiently by 2036 if the burning of fossil fuels is not stopped, or even slowed by a small percentage. Polar ice caps are solid land masses with ice covering the whole land mass. The land mass does not have to be a certain size to qualify as a polar ice cap. Research says that a polar ice cap can be qualified as a polar ice cap if it is a solid land mass coved in ice. Ice caps here on earth are made from water, but on other planets such as Mars the ice caps consist of other things than just water. On Mars the ice caps are formed from water, ice, and carbon dioxide. They form from the elevation the ice caps have, and from the lack of radiation from the sun. However, this is not always possible. Of course, government controlis not perfect either. Property rights that would lead to efficient allocations have four main characteristics: universality, exclusivity, transferability, and enforceability. Universality is when all resources are privately owned and the entitlements are specified. Exclusivity refers to the fact that all benefits and costs due to owning and using the resource should be directed solely at the owner. Transferability refers to the fact that all property rights should be transferable from one owner to another in voluntary exchange. And finally, enforceability simply means that all property rights should be secure from involuntary seizure by others. With all of these in place, one would certainly use a resource efficiently because a decline in the value of the resource would represent a personal loss. Furthermore, individuals will only buy as much of something so that the marginal cost is equal to the marginal benefit that they receive from purchasing it. Ergonomics is also known as the process of understanding and improving human communications with types of products, equipment, environments, and systems. Ergonomics principles are used to improve the fit between the worker and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics improvement are divided into two broad categories which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and cognitive issues, such as mental overload and confusing displays [2]. The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life. Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs, when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty.
