Venezuela s Lack Of Economic Development
Daron Acemoglu and Terry Lynn Karl accurately predict events in Venezuela, due to the influence
of political elitist, who have hindered the state s progress towards economic advancement.
Venezuela s lack of political stability is defined by a rational actor, due to the inability of elitist
groups to invest their wealth in domestic development. According to Acemoglu s historical
approach to assessing the role of institutions in economic development, some societies have good
institutions that encourage investment in machinery, human capital, and better technologies, and,
consequently, these countries achieve economic prosperity. However, countries where elitist groups
represent the institutions often times block progress towards industrialization

Neo Dalitism In Ramayana
In the Ramayana, Sambhuka, a Sudra who was doing penance was dealt with death penalty by
Lord Rama on the advice of his political council comprising the learned scholars and rishis like
Vishvamitra and Vashishtha. In The Mahabarata even a great rishi Uttanga emitted bad smell of
untouchability when he refused to drink water from a Nishad the disguised Indra, saying that he
would prefer to die than accept water from an untouchable. Eklavya was debarred from the art of
archery by the great guru Drona and he had to pay a heavy price for being a low caste. (Bir Singh

Neo Dalitism is to deconstruct the false images of God, Rebirth, Soul, Holy Books, teachings
Separatism, Fate and Heaven created by these literatures. The next step is to construct and try to
undo the damages (though it is not possible to undo the damages but it can be reconstructed as
close as possible). While Dalitism is to clear the ground Neo Dalitism is to reconstruct the ignored
or lost literature.
As after a long illness a patient has to be given not only medicine to cure the disease but must be
given extra nourishment to bring into normal state. While Dalitism is only curing, Neo Dalitism is
diagnosing and curing (deconstruction) the malady and giving extra nourishment (discovering and
reconstructing) to make society healthy. Only medicine cannot make one healthy. The ultimate goal
is not to cure the disease of society but to make it

Water or (H20, or H0H) is one of the most abundant important molecule on Earth. Water is the
only substance that occurs naturally in all the three forms (solid, liquid and gas). A water molecule
is a bent molecule with a V Shape. A bent molecule is similar to a trigonal planar but lacks the third
atom, instead the third molecule is replaced with unshared electrons (APPENDIX dd). A water
molecule consists of one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms. In a water ... Show more content on

The unequal sharing of the oxygen and hydrogen atoms is called polar. A polar molecule is a
molecule made up of two different atoms which have asymmetrical distribution around the
molecule, this implies that the molecule has a slightly negative and positive charge at each ends of
the molecule. The end which is more electronegative has a slightly negative charge (Оґ ) and the
side with the less electronegativity has a slight positive charge (Оґ+). Polar molecules tend to have
a greater electronegative difference of 0.5 and less than 1.6. In order for a molecule to obtain
polarity, the two molecule has to have a net pole and dipole moment, where a separation of the
charge of the molecule go into a positive area or a negative area. The dipole moment can be
visualised by drawing an arrow from the positively charged side to the negatively charged side, in
a polar molecule the arrow points towards the same direction, whereas a nonpolar molecule has
arrows pointing in different directions. Molecules which possess both an asymmetrical
electronegativity and geometry is classified as a polar.
Water is a special type of covalent bond called a hydrogen bond, this bond is similar to dipole
dipole forces but has a greater intermolecular force. A hydrogen bond is the intermolecular force of
attraction between a

Rosecrans s Battle At Chickamauga
In September of 1863 Major General William S. Rosecrans was on a roll. He and his Union Army
of the Cumberland had initiated their campaign in Tennessee against Confederate General Braxton
Bragg in December of the previous year. After fighting a major battle at Murfreesboro (Stones
River) and maneuvering adroitly to force the Confederates out of Tullahoma and then Chattanooga,
Rosecrans had driven Bragg s army completely out of Tennessee and into northern Georgia.
But now Bragg was through retreating. He had received enough reinforcements, including troops
from Robert E. Lee s Army of Northern Virginia under James Longstreet, to have numerical
superiority over Rosecrans, and he meant to make aggressive use of that advantage.

Rosecrans makes a fateful blunder
Gen Thomas J Wood, Union General at the Battle of Chickamauga
General Thomas J. Wood (Wikimedia)
Having been erroneously informed by staff officers that a gap had formed in the Union line
facing the Confederates, Rosecrans quickly ordered Brigadier General Thomas J. Wood to take
his division and close the gap. But in pulling his force out of its position and moving it to close a
gap that didn t exist, Wood opened up a real one.
It so happened that General Longstreet was already preparing an attack on just the position Wood
was moving away from. Longstreet s troops quickly poured through the now all too real gap in the
Union line, cutting the Northern force in two.
The result was little short of an absolute rout of the Federal army, with most of the troops,
including Rosecrans himself, along with most of his generals, running as fast as they could in
disorganized retreat back to the hoped for safety of Chattanooga. Only a heroic stand by General
George H. Thomas, who would thereafter be known as The Rock of Chickamauga, prevented the
total disintegration of the Northern

Why Is English A Mandatory Language
English is a Western Germanic language and was first spoken in England and now known as the
global lingua franca. If there were one language that could have a chance of being considered as
universal, it would be definitely English. This is because it has become the world s language for
technology, commerce, and also empowerment. The internet is also a proof of it because most
parts of the internet were written in English. Internet is also used in communicating with people
overseas and some countries are forced to learn the said language. Anyone will be quite
speechless if they discovered a land without anyone who knows English. However, making
English as a mandatory language can affect many people. It could break up culture and will cause
in the lack of variety. People often talk about English as a global language or lingua francawith
more than three hundred fifty million people around the world speaking English as a first language
and more than four hundred thirty million speaking it as a second language. On the other hand,
two billion people is the expected number of who will study English, and will increase up to three

The Killer Whales Don t Be Killer
Despite the name given to these intelligent animals, killer whales don t seem to be killer... in the
wild anyways. Yet, places like SeaWorld seem to have shown people unintentionally that keeping
whales in captivity and such small areas leads them to be aggressive, and essentially living up to
their name. SeaWorld is an attraction that has been in the United States for many years, and
although it provides great entertainment for individuals and their families, it also is a place where
whales are treated poorly and held in captivity. While people enjoy the tricks the intelligent
mammals are commanded to do, they don t realize the poor conditions that they have once the show
is over. Between whalefighting, poor feeding, and small areas; it is clear that keeping whales in
captivity provides is both physically and mentally harmful to these animals. Many debates and
arguments revolve around keeping whales in captivity, but keeping them in such small areas
seems to cause them to lash out and hurt others. However, after learning about whales both in
captivity as well as the wild, the realization that they should not be captive is starting to become
noted by animal activists, the media and even the public. As the recent controversy of the poor
conditions of killer whales in captivity is becoming more publicly noticed, animals activists are
working towards the rights of killer whales. SeaWorld is a marine mammalpark that has been

Negative Impact Of Globalization
Globalization is the interaction of people due to the growth of international flow of different types
of global markets such as business, finances, international and domestic trades, information
technology, investments, and different ideas and cultures. Many people fear the impact of the
economy and society because it is harmful to every citizen around the world. Globalization
influences cultural exchange since it has been increasing annually. But this is not necessarily a
good thing, people fear this can cause loss of culture. Globalization very common nowadays, it has

Another reason why jobs are decreasing is because of the advantage that the technology have
over us, the more advance the technology, the less workers they need. For example, in Factories
everything was mostly done and created by citizens of a nation, since technology is so advance,
factories now have more of automation system which means everything is done automatically,
this has caused decrease in jobs now that automation is very popular. This also can affect the
household because some families will be in financial crises due to unemployment. They are and
will be higher rates of divorces and family instability. Globalization has a huge and very stressful
impact on companies and business. Globalization has made a competitive environment for them.
The competition is due to different type of reasons but mainly due to cost and price and
technology adaptation. When company and businesses competition increase, it makes other
companies or businesses lower their prices. Also, one effect of globalization is expanding the
businesses. Companies, businesses and customers always want to have quick services and in a
more efficient way then before. They expect low prices and high quality. For example, McDonald
s. This company had its downfall, but it has been one of the most admire companies globally. It has
expanded throughout the world and it represents some of the cultures and community around it.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Micro-Grids
Introduction
Energy is considered to be an integral aspect of social and economic development. Despite this
311 million in India people lack access to electricity and other clean energy sources (Banerjee et
al. 2015:1). Despite the policy push for rural electrification since 1980 s , seventy five million
households in rural India lack energy access (TERI 2015: 155), making energy access
predominently a rural problem (Bhattacharyya Palit 2014: 2). Thus the slow progress made can be
attributed to the conventional electrification programmes which provide electricity access by
connecting households to the national grid. This approach is deemed to be neither financially
feasible nor environmentally sustainable (Josey Sreekumar, 2015: 5).
Given the challenges encountered while employing conventional electrification methods, micro
grids are being seen as an alternative for providing electricity through a decentralised renewable
energy generation and distribution. Decentralised electricity generation signifies an electric power
source connected directly to the distribution network or on the customer s side of the meter
(Gurtoo Lahiri n.d.: 17). Micro grids have the potential for improving energy access and can play a

Adopting a dominant and inefficient strategy of electrification leaves India with an average
electrification rate of 66.9 per cent at the household level in rural areas in 2011 (ibid.). These rates
were below the global average electrification rate of 81.9 per cent (ibid.). The numbers presented are
an indication of the need to reorient the focus of rural electrification programmes in India towards
connecting the unconnected in the remotest areas through decentralised distribution

Myanmar Research Paper In 1989 the country formerly known as Burma switched its name to
Myanmar, meaning the fast and strong people . Burma or Myanmar, began as individual states
with several powerful monarchs, over time the British government took over. This resulted in the
First Anglo Burmese War that lasted from 1824 1826. The most respected of Myanmar s military
leaders during the war was Maha Bandula, who later died in battle. The British went on to win the
war and separate Myanmar into separate colonies in favor of certain ethnicities. Burma gained its
independence when a group called the Thirty Comrades created the Burmese Independence Army
and fought with Japan in World War II. The Army believed that if Japan won then they would grant
their country freedom, however when Japan began to weaken the group immediately informed the
British Military and agreed to help the British win the war. Aung Sanwas the leader of Burma at

separate from Britain, however when he assumed the position of leader of his new country he and
his cabinet members were assassinated by an opposition group. U Nu, a former cabinet member, he

Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. And Ghandi Essay
Cesar Chavez was a great leader that left a legacy in the United States, just like Martin Luther
King Jr. and Ghandi. These great leaders preached for equality and fairness. They were elegant,
civilized and thoughtful about their approach against oppression. Cesar Chavez recognized and
praised his predecessors. He studied and learned from them and their techniques. He used many of
the approaches that MLK and Gandhi used to become successful. Non violence was crucial to
Cesar, among many other principles. Just like in the generations of these great leaders, hostility and
oppression still exists in the world. In the United States, there are racial, ethnic, and religious groups
that are still being oppressed. There are many ways to go about fighting this oppression, at the
moment I believe that many people are doing it wrong. I feel that protestors, activists and other
organizations should come together to learn and organize an elegant, smart, and respectful
movement that will lead the affected groups into a better tomorrow.
Caesar Chavez was at times addressed to as the Mexican Moses as a reference to the biblical story
of the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. Cesar s followers saw themselves as the
Israelites, because farm workers at the time were being oppressed and exploited by farm owners
and other civilians. Even though the affected were Mexicans and Mexican Americans, there was a
smaller population of Filipinos who were also affected. Chavez and his family went

Water Is The Most Important Substances On Earth Essay
Introduction: Water is one of the most important substances on earth. Every single living
organism on earth requires water. Whether it is a clownfish living in the ocean or a big shady
maple tree getting its water from the earth, every organism needs it. Water is often times
advertised as the most pure substance on earth, however this is often times untrue. Yes, water is a
very pure substance but only when it is in its truly natural form, H2O. However, there are very
few cases where water is in its truest chemical composition. Water almost always has some sort of
chemical deposits in it, which can be measured in a hardness of the water.
The hardness of water is usually measured in parts per million (ppm) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
that is in a certain sample of water.1 In natural waters, the minerals that make up water aren t all in
the form of CaCO¬3. The actual minerals that make up the hardness of water are magnesium
cation and calcium cation, Mg2+ and Ca2+ respectively.1 Often times the calcium concentration is
larger than magnesium concentration. This is due to the fact that calcium is usually in almost all
types of rocks while magnesium is only found in a few for example, dolomite and olivine.1
These dissolved ions, Mg2+ and Ca2+, make up the main properties of water hardness. The
hardness of water is determined on scaling range dealing with the concentration of the ions. Water
is said to be hard if it contains a large concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+. On the

Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg
Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as
in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the
film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a
character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way
Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During
the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing
poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing
can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool
Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say
good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a
lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not
last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his
situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start
receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to
follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working
on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group

The Importance Of Math And Science
In order to be who you are, you must be willing to let go of who you think you are Daily Peace
by National Geographic, quote from Michael Singer People often have preconceived notions
about who they are. These ideas are usually detrimental, because these perceptions can cloud one
s vision, causing them to lose sight of who they are. All my life I have adored science and math.
Ever since I was four years old I knew I wanted to be a scientist. In addition to science, I loved
writing picture books (especially about a friendly Tyrannosaurus Rex named Katie), singing,
and composing songs on my little electric piano. However, in middle school, people began trying
to figure out who they are and what their purpose is in the world. My classmates all began
discussing whether they were math and science people, language people, or artsy people. I was
not a fan of this discussion. Why couldn t I be all three? I figured that I would eventually have
to decide what I preferred when it was time for me to get a job, so I decided that I would simply
pick my favorite. Thus, I became a self identified math and science person. I told myself that this
didn t mean that I had to quit music or writing. I could always write and sing as a hobby. I first
read this quote on January 31, 2017, halfway through my junior year, the year everyone must
figure out who they are and figure it out quickly. I couldn t get this quote out of my mind as I
started pondering whether I am a math and science person or

The Pros And Cons Of Federalists And Republicans
After Washington s historic term as president, he warned in his farewell address to the American
citizens against political parties and foreign affairs and encouraged them to unify as one republic.
Despite Washington s advice to the nation, political parties and foreign affairs were yet established
that divided the nation into two opposing factions: Federalists and Republicans. The Federalists, led
mainly by Alexander Hamilton, were the citizens who favored the Constitution. Anti Federalists, on
the other hand, were the citizens who opposed the ratification of the Constitution and sided with
Jefferson to form the Democratic Republican Party. While Federalists envisioned America with a
strong, complex, and centralized government, Republicans wanted America to remain a small
federal government where states and local governments held the majority of the power.
Many of the Federalist plans were centered around the idea of a strong, centralized government
that was effective and organized in the way it ran. Those who were Federalists, generally, were
people of professions and advocates of commercial interest. Alexander Hamilton, who led the
Federalist Party, wanted to pay off the national debt by establishing a national bank, restoring trade
with Britain, and encouraging American manufacturing through government tariffs in order to
improve the economy after the American Revolution. Hamilton believed that a strong and cohesive
government would allow these plans to work effectively

Coast Guard Memo
1.When I joined the Coast Guard 21 years ago, I would never have guessed I would be writing a
memo based on my leadership philosophy. My first two years and ten days in the Coast Guard
was the most miserable I have ever been. I was one of two females at a Small Boat Station in
Rockland, Maine. My roommate and I were treated differently, to say the least. We were the only
two mess cooks out of 20 non rated personnel. Her and I would switch every other month for
more than one year. It took us twice as long as the men to get communication room and boat crew

Know what you don t know. I believe that as a leader, it s important to be okay with not knowing

My Journey As A Spiritual Journey
Kaylan, I am scared I will not see you in heaven, my dad said to me crying one day. That is the
very moment that I reflect on when thinking about my spiritual pilgrimage. I had accepted Christ
into my life at a young age, but did not fully understand the depth of that relationship that I was
entering into. I made poor decisions my first two years in high school, and after realizing my
choices I was making, my dad questioned if I truly accepted Christ in the first place. I knew I had
accepted Christ into my life and received the gift of the Holy Spirit; however, I fell into temptation
and quenched the Holy Spirit when alerting me what I was doing was very wrong. My junior
year was a year full of healing and restoring for both me and my family. I believe that was the
beginning of my spiritual pilgrimage in that sense that I was finally understanding how to
participate in the grace to grace relationship with God. My parents quickly removed me from the
public high school I was attending and placed me into a small Christian high school. My youth
group leader s wife, Mandy, was the math teacher, and she quickly became my mentor for the next
two years. I had met with her several times before, but was never truly honest with her about my
struggles and difficulties of understanding my relationship with God. As we began to meet, she
challenged me to reflect and understand the temptation that I fell in to, but to also reflect on who I
am in Christ and how to enter back into that

Climate Change Of The California Valley Oak ( Quercus...
Habitat shift is another strategy used by plants to evade climate change. The term evade may be
more relevant here owing to the fact that with habitat shift a plant can translocate to a different
area. Typically with habitat shift a plant will move to a different habitat, as implied by the name.
An example of this can be seen in the California Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), which is very
sensitive to climate change. This species when exposed to elevated temperatures shifts itself
northward and tends to move from a largely terrestrial habitat to the edges of water sources. This
is not foolproof because their new habitat presents a dead end for the species. The rapidly
increasing climate will eventually kill the Quercus lobata (McLaughlin and Zavaleta 2012). These
shifts can be even more drastic. For example, one paper used computer models to observe climate
change in Germany. Based off of predicted models the paper inferred that many species would
begin shifting to the Iberian Peninsula in order to avoid climate change (Bergmann et al. 2009).
Again, this shift could later become an issue as with the Quercus lobata because of the dead end
scenario. The dead end scenario is not the only limitation associated with habitat shifts. Other
limitations include the plants intrinsic abilities to move these distances. It will be discussed further
a little later in the paper, but if a planthas poor dispersal mechanisms than it wont be able to escape
climate change. Furthermore, if a

Pecola s Innocence
In the novel The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the psychological faults of Pecola become evident
through her experiences and even more through her opposite in their actions and opinions, Claudia.
In the novel, readers become aware of various injustices occurring to both characters and an insight
to how the two deal with them. Pecola and Claudia both live in a society where innocence is not
well maintained among children. Their development is dependent on their own abilities to handle
cruelties and unfair circumstances. Claudia s intolerance for inhumane actions is exceedingly high
and she never succumbs to cruelty. However, Pecola does not possess nearly as extraordinary an
intolerance and lacks the ability to defend herself, eventually driving... Show more content on

Evolution Of Racist Portrayals Of Film And Television
Prof. Eye.
EN 101B
November 27, 2014 Evolution of Racist Portrayals in Film and Television.
The most common, if not one of the most common methods the morals and perceptions of
American society are shaped is through our own storytellers in Hollywood. Filmmakers, writers,
and producers for both cinema and television make it their career to create works that tell a
compelling story. On occasion, American Society will be reflected in these works, which raises
the question: do the works influence society, or vice versa? This can be problematic when the
focus of these works solely to sell them. As history reveals, certain groups of people, especially
African Americans, have been portrayed with certain biases and stereotypes, which has been seen
by the masses, and has shaped not only our society, but have caused us to develop our own racist
perceptions. Racist portrayals have changed from the time of the Civil Rights movement, but they
have not disappeared, having taken on new forms and effects.
Back during the time period following the 1960 s Civil Rights movement, television and film
studios alike began trying to attract new audiences by refusing to promote racial stereotypes as was
common in the past. For example, one such program, Julia, was centered around an African
American Widow, her son, and their everyday lives in an integrated apartment building, with the
titular character being portrayed as an intelligent, professional woman who Deserved the Respect of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Static-Culture Method
2.5.1.1. Advantages and disadvantages of the static culture method Although static culture appears
attractive due to its simplicity, it is not a feasible option for large scale production due to the high
cost of labour involved (Schrecker and Gostomski, 2005) Additionally, it is not a very good tool for
investigative studies on BC production in a laboratory environment. This is because the static
cultures have to be left undisturbed during pellicle formation. And even after the pellicle has
formed, it is a challenge to even measure the pH of the medium let alone control the same. Thus,
controlling important growth parameters such as pH and substrate concentration is challenging in
this method. It has been postulated by (Borzani and Desouza, 1995) that the BC pellicle increases
in thickness due to the active cells on the upper most level. Thus after a point, the cells lack access
to medium due to the decreasing substrate flux through the increasing thickness of the pellicle
under formation. 2.5.2. The agitated bacterial culture method (agitated bioreactor(... Show more

This method was first reported by (Schramm and Hestrin, 1954). They produced BC in shake
flasks to increase aeration throughout the volume and thus produced BC under agitated conditions.
They found that under agitated conditions, G. xylinus did not form a pellicle but small irregular
sized spherical balls or flocs. It s potential to be scaled up inspired further research. The rate of BC
production in such agitated cultures was two fold higher than the traditional static culture method
(Setyawati et al., 2007). Using the same principle, (Chao et al., 2000) developed a 50 L internal

of the foundation in which my mother grounded me. Broderick Blewitt (2015), best describe the

emotion, and controls fear responses and interpretation of nonverbal and/or emotional expressions.
The hippocampus plays a role in my emotions, my inability to remember, and the inability to

cross from one side of the body to the opposite side of the brain. The reticular formation is a system

arousal and attention. And lastly, the cerebral cortex controls complex thought processes. Now,
how has this affected my development? The chemical and neurotransmitters are imbalanced and

ATVs Are a Rip Off
Why are ATVs and UTVs so expensive? Do manufacturers really have to mark up the prices so
much? How much profit do these workers really need? And is high markup really a good selling
strategy for the long run? All of these questions are very frequently asked by many consumers of
ATVs and UTVs. ATVs as well as UTVs are rugged utility vehicles meant for off road purposes
such a hauling heavy loads or just plain old having fun. ATVs can seatup to two people, whereas
UTVs can haul up to six people. For the limited use ATVs and UTVs have, they really should not
costas much as they do today.
ATVs and UTVs don t have nearly any of the features cars do. For example, ATVs don t have
radios, are relatively uncomfortable for the long trail rides, and don t have any protection to the
elements. Also, most ATVs are limited to under 70 miles per hour because of the small engine
size and heavy body usually over 500lbs. One ATV that is upgraded to the top of the line vehicle
can cost well into the $20,000 s. In addition, ATVs only seat one person in general, and are at
most half the size of even the smallest hybrid cars. Because of their size, they don t usually even
have much room to put anything such as groceries or other goods. UTVs are somewhat of a
different story, but still have limitations. The largest of the UTVs may be as big as a midsize car
and seat 6 people, but it is still very cramped, and unless the buyer wants to hike the price up to
around the $30,000s, these also

Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard Nixon s Resignation
Richard Nixon s Resignation Address In 1974 after the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon became
the first and only president to resign the office. His speech to the American public was meant to
inform everyone about his resignation and to clear his name, but ultimately his speech was
ineffective because of the lack of ethos, a remorseful tone, and an apology. Richard Nixon opens
the speech by stating he always tried to do what was best for the nation throughout his presidency.
This seems like an attempt to build his ethos, but fails because instead of apologizing and moving
on he defends his actions. Nixon continues to play the victim and blames congress for his lack of
support. The tone in the beginning of the speech sounds somewhat guilty, but by not taking
responsibility for his part in the Watergate scandal Nixon loses whatever ethos he still had.... Show

The Importance Of Multicultural Communication
With the increased proliferation of organizational settings across many industries, businesses and
the staff members need a more complex understanding of intercultural communication. With that in
mind, it is also important that businesses and their employees engage in an intercultural

Living on a Hyphen: Examining the Fluidity of Identity and Belonging Within a Bicultural Context
in Ruth Ozeki s A Tale For the Time Being
In A Tale For the Time Being, Ozeki Ruth uses the character of Nao to portray the struggles of
negotiating between two distinct cultures and what it means to live on a hyphen. The hyphen
represents disconnection and connection simultaneously. Liu defines hyphenated identity as
involving the coexistence, rather than the merging of two cultures (33). In other words, two distinct
entities belong together, but never successfully merge into one because the individual finds it
difficult to fully associate with either of the two cultures. In Ozeki s novel we witness how
bicultural experiences shape Nao s sense of identity and belonging as she grapples with the
complexities of moving from one country to another.
For first generation immigrants in North America, acceptance into the mainstream society
requires them to learn or improve their English language skills and adapt to its cultural practices
(Liu 1). Liu believes second generation immigrants are better equipped to accomplish this
because they are either born in the host country or migrated at a young age (1). When Nao s

Summary Of The Actual Facts Of The Eric Garner Case
On July 17th of last year Eric Garner was stopped by the police to be confronted about selling
untaxed loose cigarettes illegally. Eric Garner verbally resisted arrest by arguing with the cops
about the terms of his arrest. After bickering for a few minutes the cops proceed to perform a

of Garner. Prior to Garner s encounter with Daniel Pantaleo his aggressor and rest of the NYPD

Macroscopic Color Lab
Abstract The purpose of these experiments is to find how the molecular components are affecting
the macroscopic color of the solutions by recording the emission and absorbance spectrums for each
solution. These experiments will help specify characteristics of the solution: its molecular and/or
compounded configuration. Knowledge about the emission and absorbance information for the
molecular composition allows for an identification to be made about the molecules or compounds
within the solution, which then can be used to narrow down the possibilities for the solutions. The
experiments will be conducted by observing the burning of the solutions to create emission
spectrums and analyzing the solutions with a spectrophotometer to create the absorbance

The Causes Of Fanaticism In The Salem Witch Trials
The most important reason was the ergot, which was a parasitic fungus that poisoned people
through rye bread. This caused caused symptoms that were very similar to the symptoms blamed on
witchcraft, leading adding credibility to this reason. Additionally, this reason is the most logical and
scientifically sound reason out of all of these documents, since it relied on biology. The second most
important reason was probably the fanaticism that caused everyone to blame Satan for the witchcraft

It is a known fact that ergot fungus causes people to hallucinate. This is seen in Document H,
which states, (Ergot) has 10 percent of the activity of LSD, (and) is also found in morning glory
seeds, the ritual hallucinogenic drug used by the Aztecs (Caporael 1). Because of its
hallucinogenic properties, the ergot probably caused many of the supposed apparitions that many
people saw, such as Ann Putnam, Jr, in Document G. Additionally, there was a drought in 1692
which killed the rye that the ergot fungus grew on, and the Salem Witch hysteria also stopped the
next year (Caporael 1). This means that rye, which the ergot fungus grew on, definitely had a
factor in the Salem Witch Trials. The ergot fungus was also observed to affect more females than
males (Caporael 1). This would explain why there were so many more women became accusers
than men, as seen in Document C. This shows a direct correlation between the ergot fungus and the
people who were affected by witchcraft symptoms, which adds further credibility to how the ergot
fungus caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. The fanaticism over Satan causing witchcraft was
also another factor that caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. Because the ergot fungus caused
hallucinations and symptoms that people usually associated with witchcraft, it was probably easier
to blame Satan than to look for another reason that could be more reasonable.

As one of the most antagonizing countries, North Korea seems to find the wrath of the United
Nations more frequently than any other sovereign nation. The country s human rights abuses and
violations of international law have led the international community to impose heavy trade
sanctions with North Korea (cite). While the country attempts to be largely self sufficient,
malnutrition is a growing problem for the people of North Korea (worldhunger). Based on its
geographic location and violation of international law in regards to nuclear capabilities and
human rights abuses, North Korea is in a perilous situation in the next seven years. Its increasing
globalization and fervent nationalism suggest, however, that while the country may evolve and
become more globalized, it will survive as the contentious nation state it is today. The physical
geography of North Korea does little to stabilize the 5 to 7 year outlook for the country. Despite
being bordered by two amicable countries to the North, China and Russia, North Korea s southern
border makes its physical geography a potentially destabilizing factor. The Northern border is
largely shared with China, stretching along the Yalu River (Yu). This border is where the majority
of imports come into North Korea, as China is North Korea s largest trading partner

Analysis Of On The Sidewalk Bleeding
While differences between Walter Dean Myers Monster and Evans Hunter s On The Sidewalk
Bleeding give an insight on morality and how choices of the two characters Steven Harmon and
Andy are shaped by their peers, and had an impact on their lives, their loved ones and the way
society treats them. Steven Harmon is a sixteen year old black male that was part of a robbery and
is on trial for murder, and is hard a very hard time in court trying to prove his innocence. Whereas,
Andy is also a sixteen year old boy that joined a gangthat went by The Royals and was stabbed and
killed by their rivalry gang that went by the Guardians .
Firstly, Steve and Andy are both very good educated young males, but just like any other kid in their

Steve took it hard being called a monster he almost started to believe it himself. In front of him.
He is writing the word Monster over and over again. A white hand (O BRIEN S) takes the pencil
from his hand and crosses out all the Monsters (Myers,24). Although both boys had gone through
different scenarios and had good hearts, their poor choices the society had judged and labelled, one
as a monster and the other as a gang member.
Secondly, Steve and Andy chose to hang out with the wrong crowd, which didn t help them at
all when it came to them making the choices they ve made. The Diabalo s was the name of the
crew Steve was hanging out with and that is where all of Steve s problems started. I need to get
paid, man. I ain t got nothing between my butt and the ground, but a rag said King and Steve
replied with I hear that Peaches also replied back with Restaurant owners got money, too. That s
the only things left in our neighborhood restaurants, liquor stores, and drugstores. King asked
Steve What you got youngblood ?. And Steve replied with I don t know (Myers,50 51). Steve s
first mistake was choosing to hang out with that crew and his second mistake was getting involved
in their conversations about robbing different places in their community because with Steve agrees
they were going to think he was down for the robbery and just wanted them to push it on him more.

Why Augustus Caesar was a Better Ruler than Julius Caesar
The two greatest leaders of Rome are without a doubt Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar. These two
men have defined leadership for a country. Many other countries have modeled their ethics and used
them as their own to better themselves as a whole. Without these two men, our world would not be
the same in just about every way. Although these two men were both great, one of them was better
than the other. Although Julius Caesarwas a dominant leader, AugustusCaesar was certainly the
better leader. Julius Caesar was said to be a great ruler. Julius Caesar conquered many great
lands. Some places that Caesar conquered was lands such as Britain, Gaul (modern day France),
Egypt, Syria, Pontus (modern day Turkey), and most of the western European continent. Caesar
has always been one of the most controversial characters of history. His admirers have seen in
him the defender of the rights of the people against an oligarchy. His detractors have seen him as
an ambitious demagogue, who forced his way to dictatorial power and destroyed the republic.
That he was gifted and versatile there can be little doubt. He excelled in war, in statesmanship,
and in oratory. (Columbia Electric Encyclopedia) Although Julius Caesar was an excellent
leader, he was not as great of a ruler as Augustus Caesar. A major key to being a good leader is that
the leader should try to keep his or her people safe. Peace and protection is far better than havoc
and destruction. Julius Caesar was a warlord, not a

Accounting Is The Basis Of Identifying, Collecting And...
Introduction
Accountancy analyses information for a variety of purposes within the business, while finance is to
do with the financial funds directly within the management. This report will be defining and
explaining the terms and the purpose of accounting and finance . As well as this it aims to cover
the main aspects of what should guide those who work in these areas.
What is accounting?
Accounting is the recording of financial transactions plus storing, sorting, retrieving, summarizing,
and presenting the information in various reports and analyses. (Averkamp, 2012)
From the research that I have conducted I have come to the idea that accounting is the basis of
identifying, collecting and analysing financial data for businesses or for ... Show more content on

Accounting is based on two specific sectors, financial accounting and Management accounting.
Financial accounting
According to Obaidullah Jan, Financial accounting is a system that accumulates, processes and
reports information about an entity s performance (i.e. profit or loss), its financial position (i.e.
assets, liabilities and shareholders equity) and changes in financial position. Every entity, whether
for profit or not for profit, aims at creating maximum value for its stakeholders. The goal of
maximum value addition is best achieved when there is a mechanism to monitor the management
and the board of directors. Financial accounting helps in such monitoring by providing relevant,
reliable and timely information to the stakeholders, (Jan, Financial accounting, 2013).
Financial accounting is the recorded information for external users who are people outside of the
organisation like investors and tax authorities which includes a report at the end of the year on
balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, auditors report and director s report.
Management accounting
Whereas according to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), Management accounting is
a profession that involves partnering in management decision making, devising planning and
performance management systems and providing expertise in financial reporting and control to
assist management in the formulation and implementation of an organization s

Compare Antigone And Civil Disobedience
In both Letters from a Birmingham Jail and Antigone , Civil disobedience becomes the answer to
conflicts both fictional and in reality. Antigone and Martin Luther King, Jr. are both icons for
defying certain laws and people in charge in attempts to fight for what they believe in. Although
they both technically broke the law to support a cause, Antigone and King had different
approaches in doing so and different goals. Antigone openly defied her leader in a direct way to
accomplish a singular goal, while King s defiance had a more complex goal in which his civil
disobediencewas only facet of. King s goal was unity and equality amongst people while Antigone
fought to bring honor to her brother. Also, the way in which they perform the disobedience
varies, the steps each one takes reflects their feelings and the goals they were seeking. Between
the two, I sympathize more with King, as I feel his actions and goal was overall more noble and
intricate. Despite the difference in outcome, both Antigone s and king s goals were commendable
and both rebels payed the ultimate price for their deed. In both of these pieces of literature, civil
disobedience is seen as a necessary tactic for fighting for what one believes is right and although
different, Antigone and King inspire generations of protests to this day.
In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone decides that her brother s honor is worth more than her own life.
She willingly sacrifices her life as well as the last bit of honor her

Government Lobbying
According to the text, many co operations use their own employees to lobby. Some companies have
governmental affairs departments or offices staffed by employees with experience in government
or public affairs. Lobbying also comes with its own expenditures, these include; amounts allocated
to the staff, entertainment and gifts. Lobbying is a form of communication made on another s
behalf and intended to influence government s decision. There should be limits in place for the
amount of money companies and groups spend on lobbying in Texas. Companies spend way too
much money on lobby contracts. Money that could be spent on other resources. John Craig explains
on an article published on American Progress that lobbying can dampen the economic growth...

There are some interest groups that are extremely powerful and exercise considerable influence
over the formation of public policy, whereas others are ineffectual and weak. (101). There are
various factors that make a group more powerful than the other. Financial resources determines
the group s power. Organizations representing large co operations are at a much better position
to raise funds. It is unfair for regular citizens because they would not be heard because of less
collective power and less money for campaign contributions. Citizens need to be heard too,
regardless of their financial capabilities. Powerful interest groups do not make it possible for the
citizens voices to be heard. The same applies to the groups that represent low income people, they
have it difficult raising the money required for lobbying. Overally, lobbying and interest groups are
in the best interest of democracy. A recent study by lawmakers of Wisconsin, found that lobbying
has a significant effect on legislative outcomes. Lobbying has a negative connotation for many
Texans but it is essential to elected and appointed lawmakers who depend on the information,
coalition building and public support of groups for their decisions.

word term) 1 word term: Chemotherapy 2 word term: Childhood Cancer 2.Summary of database
search (up to 500 words): My two word search term is childhood cancer and my one word search
term is chemotherapy. My initial search was through Scopus. I searched both of the terms using
the Boolean Operator AND to ensure that my search retrieved sources that had both of my
search terms. For my two word term, I added quotation marks around it because I wanted to
search the two words together. The range of years for publications that appeared were from
2017 until the year 1958 with a total of 49 different years in between. A total of 6,790 articles
were shown. After I limited my search to only nursing, articles, and articles in press, my total
number came down to 113. After I limited my search to the years 2003 2017, only 89 articles
remained. After performing a Google search on the author with the highest cited article using the
specified format, I retrieved a total of 1,460 hits. In Google Scholar, I retrieved 437 hits. On
PubMed, I initially searched term 1 with quotation marks around it along with my search term 2
using the Boolean Operator AND and was able to retrieve 6,778 articles. When I performed the
same search again but without quotation marks, I retrieved a total of 10,749

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) And All The...
The story is an intriguing tale that I would argue explicates and profoundly depicts the different
dynamics associated with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and all the corresponding
tendencies that exacerbate the anxiety. The main character, Mr. Melvin Udall s behavior and
actions speaks volume about the debilitating effects of the disorder. He seems to constantly have
unwanted and intrusive thoughts that can t seems to get out of head, making him obsessed with it,
Example the constant irrational worry about dirt at home, in the restaurant, on the streets so as to
not come in contact with germ, virus or disease, and excessive concerns with order, arrangement,
or symmetry, as well as Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others a distasteful religious and
sexual thoughts or images. The anxietythat is developed as a result of the above tendencies that
compels him throughout to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and arrangements, such as
cleaning, repeatedly washing of his hands and one occasion bathing for hours, while Helen, the
waitress waited for him to go a date, clearing demonstrating the compulsion that is too often
difficult to control, even though it appears irrational. It must be said that this compulsive aspect of
the symptoms tend to help him mitigate or ease the anxiety that persist. So in a narrow sense the
compulsive behaviorserves as a positive remedy or coping strategy, but generally it is irrational

  • 2. Venezuela s Lack Of Economic Development Daron Acemoglu and Terry Lynn Karl accurately predict events in Venezuela, due to the influence of political elitist, who have hindered the state s progress towards economic advancement. Venezuela s lack of political stability is defined by a rational actor, due to the inability of elitist groups to invest their wealth in domestic development. According to Acemoglu s historical approach to assessing the role of institutions in economic development, some societies have good institutions that encourage investment in machinery, human capital, and better technologies, and, consequently, these countries achieve economic prosperity. However, countries where elitist groups represent the institutions often times block progress towards industrialization ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water or (H20, or H0H) is one of the most abundant important molecule on Earth. Water is the only substance that occurs naturally in all the three forms (solid, liquid and gas). A polar molecule is a molecule made up of two different atoms which have asymmetrical distribution around the molecule, this implies that the molecule has a slightly negative and positive charge at each ends of the molecule. The end which is more electronegative has a slightly negative charge (Оґ ) and the side with the less electronegativity has a slight positive charge (Оґ+). Polar molecules tend to have a greater electronegative difference of 0.5 and less than 1.6. In order for a molecule to obtain polarity, the two molecule has to have a net pole and dipole moment, where a separation of the charge of the molecule go into a positive area or a negative area. The dipole moment can be visualised by drawing an arrow from the positively charged side to the negatively charged side, in a polar molecule the arrow points towards the same direction, whereas a nonpolar molecule has arrows pointing in different directions. Molecules which possess both an asymmetrical electronegativity and geometry is classified as a polar. He and his Union Army of the Cumberland had initiated their campaign in Tennessee against Confederate General Braxton Bragg in December of the previous year. After fighting a major battle at Murfreesboro (Stones River) and maneuvering adroitly to force the Confederates out of Tullahoma and then Chattanooga, Rosecrans had driven Bragg s army completely out of Tennessee and into northern Georgia. But now Bragg was through retreating. He had received enough reinforcements, including troops from Robert E. Lee s Army of Northern Virginia under James Longstreet, to have numerical superiority over Rosecrans, and he meant to make aggressive use of that advantage. Bragg attacks Rosecrans at ... Wood to take his division and close the gap. But in pulling his force out of its position and moving it to close a gap that didn t exist, Wood opened up a real one. It so happened that General Longstreet was already preparing an attack on just the position Wood was moving away from. Longstreet s troops quickly poured through the now all too real gap in the Union line, cutting the Northern force in two. The result was little short of an absolute rout of the Federal army, with most of the troops, including Rosecrans himself, along with most of his generals, running as fast as they could in disorganized retreat back to the hoped for safety of Chattanooga. • 10. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Micro-Grids Introduction Energy is considered to be an integral aspect of social and economic development. Despite this 311 million in India people lack access to electricity and other clean energy sources (Banerjee et al. 2015:1). Despite the policy push for rural electrification since 1980 s , seventy five million households in rural India lack energy access (TERI 2015: 155), making energy access predominently a rural problem (Bhattacharyya Palit 2014: 2). Thus the slow progress made can be attributed to the conventional electrification programmes which provide electricity access by connecting households to the national grid. This approach is deemed to be neither financially feasible nor environmentally sustainable (Josey Sreekumar, 2015: 5). Given the challenges encountered while employing conventional electrification methods, micro grids are being seen as an alternative for providing electricity through a decentralised renewable energy generation and distribution. Decentralised electricity generation signifies an electric power source connected directly to the distribution network or on the customer s side of the meter (Gurtoo Lahiri n.d.: 17). • 13. Water Is The Most Important Substances On Earth Essay Introduction: Water is one of the most important substances on earth. Every single living organism on earth requires water. Whether it is a clownfish living in the ocean or a big shady maple tree getting its water from the earth, every organism needs it. Water is often times advertised as the most pure substance on earth, however this is often times untrue. Yes, water is a very pure substance but only when it is in its truly natural form, H2O. However, there are very few cases where water is in its truest chemical composition. Water almost always has some sort of chemical deposits in it, which can be measured in a hardness of the water. The hardness of water is usually measured in parts per million (ppm) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) that is in a certain sample of water.1 In natural waters, the minerals that make up water aren t all in the form of CaCOВ¬3. The actual minerals that make up the hardness of water are magnesium cation and calcium cation, Mg2+ and Ca2+ respectively.1 Often times the calcium concentration is larger than magnesium concentration. This is due to the fact that calcium is usually in almost all types of rocks while magnesium is only found in a few for example, dolomite and olivine.1 These dissolved ions, Mg2+ and Ca2+, make up the main properties of water hardness. The hardness of water is determined on scaling range dealing with the concentration of the ions. Water is said to be hard if it contains a large concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+. On the ... Ever since I was four years old I knew I wanted to be a scientist. In addition to science, I loved writing picture books (especially about a friendly Tyrannosaurus Rex named Katie), singing, and composing songs on my little electric piano. However, in middle school, people began trying to figure out who they are and what their purpose is in the world. My classmates all began discussing whether they were math and science people, language people, or artsy people. I was not a fan of this discussion. Why couldn t I be all three? I figured that I would eventually have to decide what I preferred when it was time for me to get a job, so I decided that I would simply pick my favorite. Thus, I became a self identified math and science person. I told myself that this didn t mean that I had to quit music or writing. I could always write and sing as a hobby. The Pros And Cons Of Federalists And Republicans After Washington s historic term as president, he warned in his farewell address to the American citizens against political parties and foreign affairs and encouraged them to unify as one republic. Despite Washington s advice to the nation, political parties and foreign affairs were yet established that divided the nation into two opposing factions: Federalists and Republicans. The Federalists, led mainly by Alexander Hamilton, were the citizens who favored the Constitution. Anti Federalists, on the other hand, were the citizens who opposed the ratification of the Constitution and sided with Jefferson to form the Democratic Republican Party. While Federalists envisioned America with a strong, complex, and centralized government, Republicans wanted America to remain a small federal government where states and local governments held the majority of the power. Many of the Federalist plans were centered around the idea of a strong, centralized government that was effective and organized in the way it ran. Those who were Federalists, generally, were people of professions and advocates of commercial interest. • 26. Climate Change Of The California Valley Oak ( Quercus... Habitat shift is another strategy used by plants to evade climate change. The term evade may be more relevant here owing to the fact that with habitat shift a plant can translocate to a different area. Typically with habitat shift a plant will move to a different habitat, as implied by the name. An example of this can be seen in the California Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), which is very sensitive to climate change. This species when exposed to elevated temperatures shifts itself northward and tends to move from a largely terrestrial habitat to the edges of water sources. This is not foolproof because their new habitat presents a dead end for the species. The rapidly increasing climate will eventually kill the Quercus lobata (McLaughlin and Zavaleta 2012). These shifts can be even more drastic. For example, one paper used computer models to observe climate change in Germany. Based off of predicted models the paper inferred that many species would begin shifting to the Iberian Peninsula in order to avoid climate change (Bergmann et al. 2009). Again, this shift could later become an issue as with the Quercus lobata because of the dead end scenario. The dead end scenario is not the only limitation associated with habitat shifts. Other limitations include the plants intrinsic abilities to move these distances. It will be discussed further a little later in the paper, but if a planthas poor dispersal mechanisms than it wont be able to escape climate change. Furthermore, if a ... • 28. Evolution Of Racist Portrayals Of Film And Television Prof. Eye. EN 101B November 27, 2014 Evolution of Racist Portrayals in Film and Television. The most common, if not one of the most common methods the morals and perceptions of American society are shaped is through our own storytellers in Hollywood. Filmmakers, writers, and producers for both cinema and television make it their career to create works that tell a compelling story. On occasion, American Society will be reflected in these works, which raises the question: do the works influence society, or vice versa? This can be problematic when the focus of these works solely to sell them. As history reveals, certain groups of people, especially African Americans, have been portrayed with certain biases and stereotypes, which has been seen by the masses, and has shaped not only our society, but have caused us to develop our own racist perceptions. Racist portrayals have changed from the time of the Civil Rights movement, but they have not disappeared, having taken on new forms and effects. Back during the time period following the 1960 s Civil Rights movement, television and film studios alike began trying to attract new audiences by refusing to promote racial stereotypes as was common in the past. For example, one such program, Julia, was centered around an African American Widow, her son, and their everyday lives in an integrated apartment building, with the titular character being portrayed as an intelligent, professional woman who Deserved the Respect of her White ... • 29. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Static-Culture Method 2.5.1.1. Advantages and disadvantages of the static culture method Although static culture appears attractive due to its simplicity, it is not a feasible option for large scale production due to the high cost of labour involved (Schrecker and Gostomski, 2005) Additionally, it is not a very good tool for investigative studies on BC production in a laboratory environment. This is because the static cultures have to be left undisturbed during pellicle formation. And even after the pellicle has formed, it is a challenge to even measure the pH of the medium let alone control the same. Thus, controlling important growth parameters such as pH and substrate concentration is challenging in this method. It has been postulated by (Borzani and Desouza, 1995) that the BC pellicle increases in thickness due to the active cells on the upper most level. Thus after a point, the cells lack access to medium due to the decreasing substrate flux through the increasing thickness of the pellicle under formation. 2.5.2. They produced BC in shake flasks to increase aeration throughout the volume and thus produced BC under agitated conditions. They found that under agitated conditions, G. xylinus did not form a pellicle but small irregular sized spherical balls or flocs. It s potential to be scaled up inspired further research. The rate of BC production in such agitated cultures was two fold higher than the traditional static culture method (Setyawati et al., 2007). • 31. ATVs Are a Rip Off Why are ATVs and UTVs so expensive? Do manufacturers really have to mark up the prices so much? How much profit do these workers really need? And is high markup really a good selling strategy for the long run? All of these questions are very frequently asked by many consumers of ATVs and UTVs. ATVs as well as UTVs are rugged utility vehicles meant for off road purposes such a hauling heavy loads or just plain old having fun. ATVs can seatup to two people, whereas UTVs can haul up to six people. For the limited use ATVs and UTVs have, they really should not costas much as they do today. ATVs and UTVs don t have nearly any of the features cars do. For example, ATVs don t have radios, are relatively uncomfortable for the long trail rides, and don t have any protection to the elements. Also, most ATVs are limited to under 70 miles per hour because of the small engine size and heavy body usually over 500lbs. One ATV that is upgraded to the top of the line vehicle can cost well into the $20,000 s. In addition, ATVs only seat one person in general, and are at most half the size of even the smallest hybrid cars. Because of their size, they don t usually even have much room to put anything such as groceries or other goods. UTVs are somewhat of a different story, but still have limitations. The largest of the UTVs may be as big as a midsize car and seat 6 people, but it is still very cramped, and unless the buyer wants to hike the price up to around the $30,000s, these also ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard Nixon s Resignation Richard Nixon s Resignation Address In 1974 after the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon became the first and only president to resign the office. His speech to the American public was meant to inform everyone about his resignation and to clear his name, but ultimately his speech was ineffective because of the lack of ethos, a remorseful tone, and an apology. Richard Nixon opens the speech by stating he always tried to do what was best for the nation throughout his presidency. This seems like an attempt to build his ethos, but fails because instead of apologizing and moving on he defends his actions. The hyphen represents disconnection and connection simultaneously. Liu defines hyphenated identity as involving the coexistence, rather than the merging of two cultures (33). Macroscopic Color Lab Abstract The purpose of these experiments is to find how the molecular components are affecting the macroscopic color of the solutions by recording the emission and absorbance spectrums for each solution. These experiments will help specify characteristics of the solution: its molecular and/or compounded configuration. Knowledge about the emission and absorbance information for the molecular composition allows for an identification to be made about the molecules or compounds within the solution, which then can be used to narrow down the possibilities for the solutions. The experiments will be conducted by observing the burning of the solutions to create emission spectrums and analyzing the solutions with a spectrophotometer to create the absorbance spectrums. Experimental Methods: Experiment 1 Absorbance Analysis Collect four cuvettes and add approximately 2/3 of the allowed volume to one of the cuvettes with distilled water. This is seen in Document H, which states, (Ergot) has 10 percent of the activity of LSD, (and) is also found in morning glory seeds, the ritual hallucinogenic drug used by the Aztecs (Caporael 1). Because of its hallucinogenic properties, the ergot probably caused many of the supposed apparitions that many people saw, such as Ann Putnam, Jr, in Document G. Additionally, there was a drought in 1692 which killed the rye that the ergot fungus grew on, and the Salem Witch hysteria also stopped the next year (Caporael 1). This means that rye, which the ergot fungus grew on, definitely had a factor in the Salem Witch Trials. The ergot fungus was also observed to affect more females than males (Caporael 1). This would explain why there were so many more women became accusers than men, as seen in Document C. This shows a direct correlation between the ergot fungus and the people who were affected by witchcraft symptoms, which adds further credibility to how the ergot fungus caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. The fanaticism over Satan causing witchcraft was also another factor that caused the Salem Witch hysteria in 1692. Because the ergot fungus caused hallucinations and symptoms that people usually associated with witchcraft, it was probably easier to blame Satan than to look for another reason that could be more reasonable. ... The country s human rights abuses and violations of international law have led the international community to impose heavy trade sanctions with North Korea (cite). Antigone and Martin Luther King, Jr. are both icons for defying certain laws and people in charge in attempts to fight for what they believe in. Although they both technically broke the law to support a cause, Antigone and King had different approaches in doing so and different goals. Antigone openly defied her leader in a direct way to accomplish a singular goal, while King s defiance had a more complex goal in which his civil disobediencewas only facet of. King s goal was unity and equality amongst people while Antigone fought to bring honor to her brother. Also, the way in which they perform the disobedience varies, the steps each one takes reflects their feelings and the goals they were seeking. Between the two, I sympathize more with King, as I feel his actions and goal was overall more noble and intricate. After I limited my search to only nursing, articles, and articles in press, my total number came down to 113. After I limited my search to the years 2003 2017, only 89 articles remained. After performing a Google search on the author with the highest cited article using the specified format, I retrieved a total of 1,460 hits. In Google Scholar, I retrieved 437 hits. On PubMed, I initially searched term 1 with quotation marks around it along with my search term 2 using the Boolean Operator AND and was able to retrieve 6,778 articles.
