The project aims to support “anytime anywhere” learning
INTRODUCTION
BEACONING stands for “Breaking Educational Barriers
with Contextualised, Pervasive and Gameful Learning”
The project seeks to pilot such an innovation in real
operational environments.
by exploiting pervasive,
context-aware and gamified
techniques and technologies
framed under the Problem -
Based Learning approach

Work has focused on backend so far and integration with other components
www.beaconing.eu ECGBL 2017, Graz
Pilot community so far
Reached out to over 1000 stakeholders in requirements and needs specification
Stakeholder engagement across 8 pilot sites with over 100 teachers and students engaged so
far
www.beaconing.eu ECGBL 2017, Graz
Feedback so far
General reaction - very positive, teachers willing to further participate
Main points:
Teachers (it is key to onboard the teachers…)
 Spacialisation - Geolocation/Beacons provide new possibilities of improving the existing courses
and extend the control of the teachers on the flow of the courses
 Customisation of all the elements of Beaconing from the lesson paths
 Gamified approach will ensure a higher involvement of the students in the knowledge acquisition
 It involves a greater number of stimuli, it sparks curiosity
Students
 Integrating theory with games makes learning easier
 Games help them develop ability to retain more information

Ongoing work…
Several GLPs are being designed by teachers to be used in their own course
Oct : GLPs Implementation using the authoring tools (Beta Version)
Dec: Feedback loop with teachers to adjust/enrich the GLPs
Jan- Feb 18: Deployment in classrooms (for Large scale implementation
across the schools in the EU, >5000 students)
