Debt Ratio Analysis Of Walt Disney Company
The table below shows the analysis of the debt ratio. The Debt ratio helps in analyzing the
organization s ability to pay off its long term debts through its total assets. The debt ratio of the Walt
Disney Company remains below 50% in 2013,2014 and 2015. This shows that Walt Disney company
is conservative in nature and taking less, risk which may reduce the profitability for the company due
to lack of trade equity. However, a lower debt ratio reduces the risk of bankruptcy. Debt to equity ratio
is 0.81, 0.75, 0.69 for the year 2015, 2014 2013 respectively. Debt to equity ratio shows the gradual
increase year by year, this increase means that the increasing the debt to equity level could benefit the
company by reducing the cost of capital.

Define State Consciousness And The Phenomenal Aspect Of...
Define state consciousness and the phenomenal aspect of conscious (When we say a mental state is
state conscious we mean to identify not only that there is a relational property that we attribute to that
mental state, namely, state consciousness, but also that there is something it s like, an affiliated
phenomenal character, for the bearer of that state.)
MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY TIE IN HOW PHENOMENAL ASPECT LINKS IN AND HOW IT
LINKS IN WITH STATE CONSCIOUS, that they actually link in there s just two aspects to the one
consciousness. Something like this essay will take for granted that the what it is like part of
consciousness exists.
When a mental state is conscious, we are conscious of being in that state; so the content of our HOT
must be, roughly, that one is in that very state (Rosenthal the hypothesis)
Firstly, I d like to define, via Rosenthal, the phenomenal aspect that accompanies a state conscious
mental state. In some of his work (see Rosenthal, 2004) restricts the definition so that the phenomenal
aspect associated with state consciousness is only associated with state conscious sensations.
However, he less restrictedly says (Rosenthal, 2011 p 421) that a state s being conscious is a matter of
mental appearance of how one s mental life appears to one and that a state is conscious only if one is
subjectively aware of oneself as being in that state which does not require for the phenomenal aspect
to only be associated with sensations, and may also, as Lurz

Metaparadigm Essay
Nursing theories and models are the foundation of the profession and encompass the specialized body
of knowledge that is unique to nursing. Nursing theories lead efforts as a discipline to stay focused on
nursing phenomena, and hence provides the roadmap for the development of knowledge and the
practice of nursing itself (Pamela, 2011). Nursing theories are practical in nature and facilitate
communication with colleagues, students, and any others in health related services (Marlaine, 2015).
Among many nursing theories and models, the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) has served framework
for practice in a variety of settings. Sister Calista Roy is one of the highest respected nursing theorists,
researchers, lecturers and teachers, and she is currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The adaptation level of integrated life processes is evident when human beings are functioning as
whole, compensatory life processes reflect a challenge to integration, and compromised life processes
indicate inadequate integration, which is considered problematic (DeSanto Madeya Fawcett, 2016).
Relationship to nursing metaparadigm The nursing metaparadigm is the central concept in nursing.
There are four concepts; persons, environment, health and nursing, and they have provided direction
for nursing theory development (Fawcett, 1984). Modifications and alternative concepts for this
metaparadigm have been explored throughout the disciplines (Marlaine, 2015). The relationship
between the concepts describe, explain, or predict individuals or groups behavioral patterns as they are
influenced by environmental factors during periods of wellness and illness (Fawcett, 1984). RAM has
been developed for many decades, and contains many defined concepts, including the four
metaparadigm concepts. The major concepts are people (both individuals and groups) as adaptive
systems, the environment, health and the goal of nursing. RAM is under the umbrella of the nursing
metaparadigm, and predicts the effects of nursing actions (Fawcett,

Managing Director At Johnson Healthcare Management...
Hypothetical Scenario: I am a managing director at Johnson Healthcare Management Consulting Firm,
the premier provider for innovative solutions to performance enhancement and clinical transformation.
This firm specializes in strategies for improving the health and well being of mentally ill adults and
children with a primary focus on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Among the patient
population seen at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts are pediatric patients in the
Pediatric Associates office practice while across the campus are adult patients being seen in the
Auburn Family Medicine Center (FMC). In both groups, providers have observed some patient
disruption in the practice waiting areas. It appears that some parents are unable to manage the child s
behavior while in the waiting area, and some adult patients in the FMC have continued to be overly
disruptive. Despite interventions by the office staff in both clinics, the problem continues and patient
satisfaction starts to erode. These physician groups have solicited my assistance to determine the
problem and provide recommendations to improve the efficiency of practice operations.

Differences Between Two Female Characters
The most important aspect of comparison between two female characters is that each of two deny
change forcefully and getting stuck in the past. It was noticed by pip when he first met Miss Havisham
that her watch had stopped at twenty minutes to nine, and that a clock in the room had stopped at
twenty minutes to nine .(Great Expectations 101)One of the most astonishing trait of her character is
that she stuck herself in the time when she was deserted by her lover. She was joyfully getting ready
for her wedding, received the letter from Compeyson. At twenty minutes to nine? At the hour and
minute, said Herbert, at which she afterwards stopped all the clocks (Great Expectation 321) Miss
Havisham was heartbroken by the betrayal at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She further asserts I know nothing of the days of the week; I know nothing of weeks of the year I
know nothing about times (GE107)
The same thing we find in Miss Emily, she conserve herself in an imaginary sphere and keeps on
struggling to clasp time and forbid changes. The first implication is her denial of death as she is not
ready to accept the reality of her father s sudden death. She told them that her father was not dead. She
did that for three days, with the ministers calling on her, and the doctors, trying to persuade her to let
them dispose of the body. (Collected Stories 123) Emily tried to defy death by holding on to her father
s corpse and treating it as if he were still living. She want to remain that time alive around herself
when her father was alive. She didn t alow any change to take place whether in her life or in her old
decayed house. No change has ever been made in her antique house and maintained as well while
every other house acquired change completely over these long years. As interpret by Faulkner only
Miss Emily s house was left, lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the
gasoline pumps an eyesore among eyesores. (Collected Stories 119) As years go on and the times
begin to change, she retreats into her house, refusing to go along with the

The Pros And Cons Of The NFLAs A NFL
Professional football is known to dominate all other American sports. Prime time football is an
essential part of American culture. Each year anticipation for the start of the new season builds as
dedicated fans eagerly await for game time. People can t help but love the high energy and intensity
each game provides. Once a favorite team is picked, fans follow the season in hopes that their team
makes big at the Super Bowl. Whether going to experience a game in person or being able to watch it
on T.V the love people have for football is evident. The National Football League s popularity draws
in the largest amount of fans who fill stadiums to full capacity and even more viewers who watch the
broadcasts. The NFL is a huge market that many consider displaying monopoly power. I believe that
the NFL is indeed a monopoly due to the lack of competition/substitutes at that level, the high barriers
to entry, and their economies of scale.
Since the formation of the NFL, numerous football leagues have attempted to compete for control
over the professional football market. The National Football League has successfully been able to
eliminate their rivals from the market. In 1926, the American Football League (1st AFL) merged
called it quits after not making enough profits. In 1937, the American Football League (2nd AFL)
stopped its league after having reached limited audiences. In 1942, the American Football League (3rd
AFL) permanently discontinued their league due to the toll of World War II. In 1947, the World
Football League (WFL) ceased to exist because of being in a smaller market and not having enough
money. In 1949, the All American Football Conference (AAFC) became incapable of maintaining its
league as a result of the direct competition it faced from the NFL. During this time period,
professional football had a relatively small market. The minimal number of attendees, as well as
financial problems, caused the AAFC to merge with the NFL. The All American Football Conference
willingly handed over the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Indianapolis Colts
(formerly the Baltimore Colts) to the National Football League. In 1970, the All American Football
League (final AFL) and the National

Third-Person Shooter Game Analysis
In a third person shooter game, the player s character is seen on the screen whereas in a first person
shooter game, the screen is viewed through the eyes of the character. The video game industry has
made great advances since the 1970 s when gaming images were simplistic and therefore not very
graphic nor realistic (Gentile, Lynch, Linder, Walsh, 2004). Nowadays, with the prevalence of highly
violent and realistic video games involving person to person brutality, there are rising concerns
regarding its effects on users real life thoughts and behaviors particularly in youth.
Playing a first person shooter game blurs the line between fantasy and reality even more than third
person because as a first shooter, the player feels as though he ... Show more content on

Bandura states people are more likely to attend to, recall, and imitate media violence that they believe
could exist in real life (Bandura, 1965 as cited in Brewer, 2011, p.17). Also in first person shooter
games, the player and his or her surroundings tends to look more realistic, such as in Grant Theft
Auto. It has a higher rate of sensory realism, which refers to to formal features of a representation that
progressively simulates the same experience in the natural environment (Williams Clippinger, 2002).
When playing a first person shooter game, players may feel more personally targeted, since they are
witnessing and conducting violent actions as if they are the character. This can lead players to
experience higher levels of identification and engagement with the violence. For example, when
describing the gaming experience, players of a first person game may say, I just got shot. Previous
research has shown heighten aggression occurs as a result of playing first person video games, due to
the player s identification with the virtual characters (Anderson Bushman, 2001, and Tamborini et al.,
2004 as cited in Jeong, Biocca, Back, 2012, p.1842) enhancing of one s presence (Schneider et al.,

Tobacco Advertising Should Be Banned Essay
In recent year, non governmental organization and other associations have been putting pressure on
the government to ban cigarette production but these products contribution of these products to the
national GDP cannot be neglected. As a result, of the huge sum, the government gets from these
companies in the form of taxes it extremely difficult for the government ban the production of
cigarettes but have instead resorted to banning advertisements of these products. Is the government
doing enough as it claims it is doing to protect it population from a product whose effect go beyond
harming secondary smokers as well?
Giving the health hazard that arises from tobacco, I am of the opinion that tobacco advertising be ban
completely in Indian. Ethics is a system of moral principles governing the appropriate conduct of a
person or a group. It is a way of being human and having a feeling of compassion, sympathy or regard
for others the way we have for ourselves. There is this famous saying of Abraham Lincoln When I do
good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad. That s my religion. Managers of tobacco companies
cannot pretend they do not know that tobacco is dangerous for our health. Ethics is fundamental in any
profession and is an integral part of any successful business today. If in our subconscious mind we are
not comfortable it mean the consequences of our action are unethical: then we are doing bad business.

The Consequences Of Human Rights In The Holocaust
Renowned Zimbabwean revolutionary Robert Mugabe states, Cooperation and respect for each other
will advance the course of human rights worldwide. Confrontation, vilification, and double standards
will not. This quote vocalizes what human rights are and the steps necessary for liberty. However, this
set of rights are constantly in violation of mankind itself in innumerable instances. The most evident
event that violated these rights is the Holocaust in World War II. This Holocaust was the persecution
of Jews and people deemed unfit by Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party during the nineteen thirties
and forties. Though this catastrophic event caught the attention of the world, this is not the only time
in history human rights being in violation. The Japanese effort in World War II to create biological
weapons for the war is another example of human rights being taken away by mankind. After this war,
the United Nations created a Universal Declaration of Human Rights , Article Five stating, No one
shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Elie Wiesel, wrote the memoir, Night, that captured the hearts of
millions of people in his survival of the Holocaust as a Jew. One event Elie recalled is his first time in
the concentration camp, Auschwitz. Yes, I did see this, with my own eyes... children thrown into the

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
The virtue of forgiveness is one that Corrie ten Boom sometimes struggles with during her
experiences in her autobiography, The Hiding Place. The harrowing events of the Holocaust and Nazi
occupation of the Netherlands left little room for tenderness towards other people yet, as Betsie ten
Boom, Corrie s older sister showed time and time again, it is always possible to find it within oneself
to forgive another, especially with God s assistance. Betsie forgives Jan Vogel, the man who betrayed
the ten Boom family to the German army. In fact, Betsie feels sorry for him, she even tells Corrie that
she prays for him because he must be suffering dreadfully. This response makes Corrie feel guilty for
being unable to so readily forgive Vogel and eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family s strong Christian faith contributes to their treatment of others and their belief that God is
watching over them. The family was known for caring for others prior to their involvement in the

Corrie s other sister trusts that God will protect her and the young Jewish woman she is housing,
Annaliese, from harm when she tells German guards the truth about Annaliese s religious heritage
(109). The knowledge that Annalise does escape and that Nollie was released from prison quickly
leads others to believe that maybe her trust was rewarded (110). In Scheveningen and Vught, two
prisons in which Betsie and Corrie are held, Corrie gives her Gospels to other inmates when they are
standing in the shower lines so that they may too hear God s word and feel His presence, even in these
places of darkness (161). Betsie always trusts that God has everything planned and everything is just
as it should be, even the fleas in the barracks at Ravensbruck. Later on the women come to understand
that the fleas are a blessing because their presence keeps the guards out of the barracks and makes
their little religious services possible (202).These moments of trust and kindness are closely linked to

Character Analysis Of Enron
Enron was an educational production about the infamous business scandal of the American energy
corporation. Enron was originally written by Lucy Prebble, directed by Rodney Lee Rodgers, and
produced by the College of Charleston s Department of Theatre and Dance. An interesting story
enfolds about the tremendous scandal during the 2000 s which led to the inevitable downfall of the
company and leader, Jeffery Skilling. Rodgers emphasized the corruption of money and the plummet
of a once powerful man, Jeffery Skilling, Enron required some level of knowledge about the historical
scandal and the stock market. The audience endured three hours of this business production. With little
knowledge or interest in business and corporations, I personally struggled to connect with the cast and
stay in touch with the plot because of the many distractions dancing about the stage. However, the
acting, set design, and the direction produced a wonderful, informative production.
Primarily, the cast, overall, was hard to connect with on a deeper level. The actress who particularly
stood out from the rest was Hayden Haring as Claudia Roe. She showcased a powerful, intelligent
woman who often stayed in the shadows due to patriarchy. As a female in society today, this character
was the only one I truly felt pity. On the other hand, Skilling;s daughter played by Erin Cooper made
me increasingly uncomfortable. She was overly sexualized to the audience when the character is

Philadelphia Chromosome And Leukemia Essay
Essay 88: The Philadelphia Chromosome and Leukemia The so called Philadelphia chromosome is an
abnormal chromosomal structure present in most cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and
to a lesser extent in other types of leukemia, most notably acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). The
origin of the term Philadelphia chromosome simply reflects the fact that a research team first
identified this abnormality in a blood sample from a leukemia patient in Philadelphia, PA.
CML vs. Acute Leukemias Unlike acute forms of leukemia, in which the cardinal manifestations
(fever, weight loss, and fatigue) appear abruptly, patients with CML may be asymptomatic for months
or even years prior to diagnosis. Even after diagnosis, many patients with chronic forms of leukemia
survive 5 10 years or longer. In approximately 90% of CML patients an abnormal structure known as
the Philadelphia chromosome results from an event known as a chromosomal translocation. ... Show

In CML, a chromosomal translocation occurs between chromosomes 9 and 22. Geneticists abbreviate
this event t9:22. The result of this t9:22 translocation is the juxtaposition of the c abl tyrosine kinase
gene on chromosome 9 with the bcr (breakpoint cluster region) on chromosome 22. The product is an
abnormal fusion gene that encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase called bcr abl. The bcr abl
protein is a perpetually active version of a cell proliferation signal. The normal versions of these
intracellular tyrosine kinases are generally inactivated unless the cell is responding to growth factors
or cytokines that promote cell proliferation. The bcr abl protein is a different story. It acts like a
broken record, continuously telling the cell to copy its DNA and undergo cell division. Consequently,
lymphocytes that undergo the t9:22 translocation begin to proliferate out of

During the last few months of 2012, the world was in shock when Hurricane Sandy formed and
disrupted the lives of many people. Hurricane Sandy began on October 22 as a tropical storm in the
Caribbean, then a couple days later developed into a hurricane in the Jamaican area. On October 29,
Hurricane Sandy made its way into New Jersey as a category 2 storm, but eventually started effecting
the northeastern region of The United States. States like Florida, Maine, and New York were greatly
affected. Hurricane Sandy was recorded as the largest Atlantic hurricane. The wind diameter was up
1100 miles. (Trento and Allen, 2014). The way Hurricane Sandy formed was a very rare climate event,
according to Yuval Neria and James M. Shultz. Sandy merged with a polar jet stream and formed a
rare hybrid of a post tropical cyclone and winter storm (Neria and Shultz, 2012). Hurricane Sandy was

with the damage that Sandy has done on top of the loss of power, technology was failing. Not only

Characterization and symbolism are prominent aspects of Walker s story Everyday Use . Walker
brilliantly writes about the use of everyday items to portray symbolism encountered between members

differently. Walker highlights each element in the story as each character expresses their different
views of items showing that people or objects are more important than decoration or style.

following day one of the submarines I 29 launched a E14Y Glen float plane crewed by pilot Susumu
Ito. He flew an audacious, reconnaissance mission over the harbor with only aid of his navigation light
on the plane, (dimmer than the usual aircraft lights). Susumu Ito circled the cruiser of USS Chicago
and HMAS Canberra twice and confirming the target before flying off to the east. However while
flying east he was spotted by an anti aircraft battery The Sparrows at middle head, but lucky it
misinterpreted for an American Curtis Falcon float plane, luckily no alarm was raised. The plane
crashed into the ocean when coming back. Nevertheless, the Japanese were able to save the pilot and
retrieve the information from the mission, which proved to be critical for the submarines, so that they
could attack on the next night. 31st may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Role of Ethics in Financial, Environmental, and Cultural...
Individual Ethics Case Study Given the current pressures on China, Jamaica, and America expressed
in the article, one would anticipate that ethics would play different roles in the financial,
environmental, and cultural issues for each of the three countries. However, in the case study, it does
not appear that the people from the three different countries really take different approaches to most
ethical scenarios. In fact, the decisions made by people in all three countries were very similar. There
was one significant difference; Jamaicans were more likely to choose a scenario that would result in
pollution than Americans or the Chinese. However, Jamaicans were still less likely to choose to
pollute than they were to choose not to pollute. Otherwise, financial and cultural issues seemed to
have similar impacts on their ethical decision making, despite the different historical and cultural
backgrounds and present realities of the three different countries. For many people, business ethics
seems to be a Western phenomenon. Therefore, adopting western business ethical standards would
seem to be particularly challenging for China, thought that is belied by the results of the research.
However, it should come as no surprise that the Chinese make ethical decisions that are similar to
Americans. China does a tremendous amount of business with the Western world, and has had to
adopt some westernized business ethics issues to be successful in those ventures. Moreover, it is

Arguments Against Poaching
Like all big issues in our world, there is an argument being made. The argument is not whether
poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should go
about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind
poaching, those who buy poached ivory for example, is more important than stopping poachers on the
ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than providing
funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has
become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. They believe rangers need access to modern
weapons and technology, training and funding. They argue if the poachers have it, the rangers trying to
stop them need to have it too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We re not talking about dudes running around in soccer jerseys with machetes they re decked out like
the mercenaries from Predator (Pathan). Like Asgar, I support the second side of the argument. In
order to stop the poaching epidemic our planet suffers from the global anti poaching community must
come together groups of rangers in the field, as well as larger organizations, and give them the rights
and the support any soldier would receive in a war. If we don t treat the war on poaching like an actual
war, and we don t treat poachers like active combatants, and rangers like soldiers, there is no hope in
stopping the illegal killings and saving the species that have been hunted to near

Keep Exotic Animals Research Paper
Should people be allowed to keep exotic animals like chimpanzees or tigers? I don t believe that
people should keep exotic animals unless they have some kind of training or it s their job. Having an
exotic animal as a pet is extremely dangerous and not right to keep the animal away from their natural
habitat. Other people might see my point differently and think it s cool to have a tiger or any sort of
large animal in their home as a pet, but you need to understand how the animal feels, wants, and
needs. This is also putting yourself and the animal in danger. If you have children you are putting
them in danger too. Not all people own exotic animals as pets some keep these animals in small spaces
and abuse them. On the Peta.Org website they

Mandatory Civil Service Year
There are many views and oppinions on the upcoming plan to require all future U.S. high school
graduates to spend one year in service to their country before college. Congress is supporting and
pushing towards this decision. Many others, however, strongly disagree with this mandatory civil
service year after high school. This high school, and many others in the area, also believe that this
would be counterintuitive to have countless graduates leave their field of study, have to take away
time from religious trips, and it would make serving in the the military less exceptional. Leaving
schooling for a year, would greatly impact ones memory of the importants information that they
gained in high school. Many students throughout the United States

process of influencing others to achieve group or organizational goals (Williams, pg 252 2010). Jeff

Traditional M Ā Ori s Environmental Ethic
Traditional Māori did have an environmental ethic . Traditional Māori are the people who were living
in New Zealand before European settlement. Aldo Leopold describes environmental ethic as actions of
self denial in order that other species may benefit . Traditional Māori are a good example of a society
who did have environmental ethic. They were conscious of sustaining the environment because of
their spiritual belief that they were related to the land and equal with nature . They also believed that
they were borrowing the land and they had to take care of it for future generations and this shaped the
way they lived . Early Māori s environmental ethic is also shown in the ways they restricted harvests
and protected the landscape. They used their language to impose restrictions and developed techniques
and knowledge that informed them on the most sustainable ways to hunt and gather . However, moas
did become extinct due to Māori over hunting them but Māori did learn from this mistake . All of this
shows that traditional Māori did have environmental ethic.
One important aspect of Māori culture that effects their environmental ethic is their spiritual
relationship with the environment. Māori believe that everything on earth descend from Rangi and
Papa . This includes the environment. Therefore, Māori believe that they are equal to nature. Nature is
like their siblings and their equal . Since Māori have this relationship with the environment, they have
an ethic to protect

Reflection in Iris Murdoch s Under the Net
Reflection in Iris Murdoch s Under the Net
In her novel Under the Net, Iris Murdoch examines the nature of reality through the thoughts and
relationships of the novel s main character, Jake Donaghue. A recurring theme in the novel is the idea
of reflection, in both senses of the word: Jake is continually thinking about ideas, and he is also
forever trying to see himself as he really is. Many of the instances of reflection in the novel occur near
rivers or are connected in some way to currents. As we shall see, Iris Murdoch uses reflections in
Under the Net to represent the mirror opposites of reality and appearance. The Novel As Reflection

We should note that it is her reflection and not Sadie that Jake sees: [T]he curious fantasy came to me
that if I were to look under the drier at the real face and not at the reflection I should see there some
terrible old witch (p53). The relationship between appearance and reality is a central theme in the
novel, and Jake s search for the truth includes the desire to learn if one can ever truly know another
person. Jake s fear of intimacy is due in part to his concern for the truth; he states that although he
once briefly thought of marrying Anna, he has never wanted a communion of the souls because it is
already hard enough to tell the truth to oneself (p31). Jake nevertheless again comes to care deeply for
Anna, and in a frantic search of Paris, he finally finds her at the city s fireworks celebration:
The river was black now under the night sky and glassy, a black mirror in which every lamp raised a
pole of light and the conflagration in the sky above dropped an occasional piece of gold. The line of
people on the other bank was clearly reflected in it. Anna s image was quite still beneath her. I
wondered if in the river...my own reflection was as vividly shown. (191)
Anna does not see Jake s reflection, however, and he leaves Paris without having talked to her. In a
comic distortion of reality, Jake believes that Hugo loves Anna, while in fact Hugo loves Sadie, Anna
loves Hugo, and Sadie loves Jake; their relationships

The United States Justice System
Officers in a Texas McDonald s parking lot saw a black man and a white man in the process of
exchanging seats on a road trip from Florida to California, while leaving the parking lot; the officer
implied that the man driving did not use his right turn signal. The men alleged that their privacy was
invaded when the vehicle was searched without a warrant or permission from the driver. When one of
the men attempted to video tape the incident on a cell phone he was told to stop. The term driving

American drivers without probable cause (Weatherspoon, 2004). The United States Justice System is
based upon a flawed designed through miseducation of students in the school system, maintaining of a

Currently, the Public School System is readying African American for a life in prison. Today, many

Contributions Of William Golding
William Golding was a famous British author, poet, and playwright. Golding contributed to British
Literature by writing several works for which he was acknowledged. His most famous work is a novel
called Lord of the Flies which was published in 1954. Lord of the Flies is still being read today around
the world. In addition, two movie versions based on the novel were released. The first version was
released in the United States in 1963 and the second version was released in 1990. The Lord of the
Flies remains a relevant piece of literature today as it shows what happens in nature when there is no
central governing body. His pessimism about the nature of humanity was obviously reflected in his
writing. William Golding s childhood, school life, and war experience heavily influenced his work as
a playwright, poet, and an author of Lord of the Flies.
On September 19, 1911 William Golding was born at his maternal grandmother s house in Newquay,
Cornwall (England). This was approximately six years after his older brother Joseph was born.
Golding also had an adopted sister named Eileen. She was his blood cousin and was adopted in the
1930s. His parents were Alec and Mildred A. Golding (neƩ Curnoe). The whole family lived in
Marlborough, Wiltshire. Alec was a master of science at Marlborough Grammar School. Alec was also
a rationalist, religious skeptic, and an activist for the British Labour Party. Alec and Mildred

Fire Stimulates Seed Germination Of Acacia Falcata
Fire Stimulates Seed Germination of Acacia Falcata
Laura Knight
Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, NSW 2109, Australia
Keywords: heat, stimulation, seedling emergence, growth.
Introduction
Acacia species are typically abundant in Australia, where bushfires are a regular occurrence in
summer. The viability of Acacia in this area has been recognised as an outcome of the stimulatory
impact of fire on Acacia seed germination (Bell et al., 1993).
Seed germination success is influenced by soil conditions and physical damage. Soil nutrients
normally increase after a fire. A rapid release of elements occurs, which without fire, would slowly
become available through plant litter decay (Certini, 2005). Therefore, with an increase in the amount
of nutrients available, nutrient cycling is increased, providing a prosperous environment for plants.
The temperature and heat produced from fires seemingly has a significant influence on terminating
seed dormancy, and consequently activating seed germination. The physical burning from fire breaks
the hard seed coat, increasing water and nutrient consumption, and resulting in greater germination
(Mucunguzi and Hannington, 1996).
In addition, previous studies have shown that the Lolium species is damaged by fire (Barclay et al.,
2004). The surface crowns of some Lolium species are more vulnerable to damage, which displays a
lower tolerance to fire (Akinola et al., 1998). Endurance is relative to the intensity of the

Population Health Planning Is Based On The Social Model Of...
Intro
Population health planning is based on the social model of health, aiming to improve the health of
entire populations and reduce inequities, recognising that environmental, economic, social, cultural
and behavioural factors contribute to health and wellbeing. Identifying causes of poor health is
critical, as addressing these causes is the main method of improving population health outcomes. As
the range of possible causative factors is vast, and are often interdependent, population health
planning cannot be the responsibility of only a single sector, local government or organisation.
Effective planning utilises partnerships between communities, private and not for profit sectors and
governments. Investments are made in areas with greatest potential for positive population health
change. The basic notion is that actions taken earlier in causal streams yield greater population health
gains. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013)

Discussion of Key Issues
The population health approach has been criticised as assuming health is absence of illness, as
opposed to the WHO definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being
and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . This definition of health recognises the
environmental context surrounding an individual, placing greater emphasis on conditions that create
wellbeing as opposed to a biomedical view that focuses on single diseases, and in a sense is seen as
more efficient and

Australian Living Conditions
The living conditions and the treatment of Australian Prisoners of War by the Japanese during World
War II were horrific. The Japanese soldiers treated the Australian soldiers in such an inhumane way
which resulted in the loss of many Australian lives. The living conditions included bed bugs, scare
food and water. The Japanese believed the Australian soldiers were dishonourable and believed they
deserved to be punished, this is the main cause of the prisoners mistreatment of prisoners. As a result
many prisoners obtained illnesses and poor health. The Aftermath heavily influenced Australian

The military sent fresh food and clean clothes into camps until the prisoners were able to come home.
It took one to two months for the boats to arrive at camps to take prisoners home; the stronger
prisoners were taken by plane whilst the weaker were brought by boat. Prisoners soon became VIPs as
all prisoners were rescued before other soldiers. The exact number of prisoners is unknown as the
Japanese did not keep records, or destroyed all of which they had; although it is estimated that one
third of prisoners died in Japanese camps this is seven times higher than the death rate of Australian
Prisoners of War in German camps. When soldiers were informed about their homecoming they were

The Experimenter Must Conduct Electrolysis Essay
The purpose of this experiment is to confirm Avogadro s number. To do this the experimenter must
conduct electrolysis. Electrolysis, as given to us in the experiment instructions, is where an external
power supply is used to drive an otherwise nonspontaneous reaction. A zinc strip and a copper strip
will be used as electrodes. Electrodes are devices that move electrons into or out of a solution by
conduction ( Definition ). The electrodes will be placed into a beaker of sulfuric acid. By using the
copper strip as the anode and the zinc strip as the cathode, the experimenter will make the cell
electrolytic in order to oxidize a copper electrode. The anode of a device is the terminal where current
flows in from outside and the cathode of a device is the terminal where current flows out (Denker). By
measuring the amount of copper that was deposited in the electroplating process, the experimenter will
be able to determine the average current in the reaction and determine the amount of atoms in one
mole of copper. The experimenter will then compare this number to Avogadro s number, determining
how accurate Avogadro s number is. In this experiment, the experimenter will be using a LabQuest, a
Vernier Current Probe, a 1.5 volt DC power source, 2 connecting wires with alligator clips, an ohm
resistor, a copper strip, and a zinc strip to set up the experiment. The experimenter will also need the
following: sand paper to clean a strip of copper, an analytical balance to

INTRODUCTION
In today s economy, firms are no longer the center of business. In order to survive, companies need to
acknowledge the fact that business now revolves around customers
(Keith, 1960). As a result, marketing becomes one of the most prominent philosophies in business.
Therefore, to get a better understanding of today s business, this essay will be discussing about three
important concepts. These concepts are marketing as a business philosophy, the understanding of
customer value, followed by the link between marketing and customer value. In addition, this essay

CUSTOMER VALUE
Zeithaml (1988, as cited in Smith Colgate, 2007, p. 8) defined customer value as being what
customers get from the purchase and use of a product versus what they pay. According to Drucker
(1999), customer value determines what the business will produce and whether it will prosper or not.
Clearly, customers will prefer to consume the product that offers them most benefits with least costs
possible.
Based on their researches, Smith and Colgate (2007) proposed four major values of customer that
applicable to consumer and to customer value creation strategy.
According to Smith and Colgate (2007), functional value is concerned about the purpose and
usefulness of a product. Experiential value is concerned with the customers feelings created by the
product whereas symbolic value is concerned about the psychological meaning of a product to
customers. On the other hand, cost is related to the both direct and indirect costs of using the product.
The following table shows customer value creation strategy with Village Gold Class
Cinema as the example.

Analysis Of Health Of Health And Wellness Essay
Analysis of Health Views Health is defined by Straub as, a state of complete physical, mental, and
social well being. It involves physical as well as psychological and social well being (2012). The well
being of an individual also includes social conditions, biological factors, and personality traits (Straub,
2012). Both health and wellness is highly looked over by individuals, this is until they understand how
an illness destroys their body. However, to understand the views individuals have towards the concept
of health and wellness one must first be aware of the definition of the term. According to the Sage
Handbook of Health Psychology, Sutton, Baum, Johnston (2004) explains the term health refers to a
range of positive states of mental, physical, and social wellbeing. The term is not only determined by
the absence of disease and illness but also by the variation of healthful signs composed of a person s
lifestyle. In addition, to physician s findings of the illness, there are an assortment of environmental,
opinionated, and behavioral factors that add to the possible reasons behind the individual s health and
illness. The purpose of the paper is to go over the many different views of health, events that made
change come true, I ll also provide the description of the biomedical model, the transition of the
biomedical model into other fields of practice, and an explanation of the development of behavioral
medicine.

in todays society as well as different; ultimately, questioning as to why his material is still being

  • 5. Define State Consciousness And The Phenomenal Aspect Of... Define state consciousness and the phenomenal aspect of conscious (When we say a mental state is state conscious we mean to identify not only that there is a relational property that we attribute to that mental state, namely, state consciousness, but also that there is something it s like, an affiliated phenomenal character, for the bearer of that state.) MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY TIE IN HOW PHENOMENAL ASPECT LINKS IN AND HOW IT LINKS IN WITH STATE CONSCIOUS, that they actually link in there s just two aspects to the one consciousness. Something like this essay will take for granted that the what it is like part of consciousness exists. When a mental state is conscious, we are conscious of being in that state; so the content of our HOT must be, roughly, that one is in that very state (Rosenthal the hypothesis) Firstly, I d like to define, via Rosenthal, the phenomenal aspect that accompanies a state conscious mental state. In some of his work (see Rosenthal, 2004) restricts the definition so that the phenomenal aspect associated with state consciousness is only associated with state conscious sensations. However, he less restrictedly says (Rosenthal, 2011 p 421) that a state s being conscious is a matter of mental appearance of how one s mental life appears to one and that a state is conscious only if one is subjectively aware of oneself as being in that state which does not require for the phenomenal aspect to only be associated with sensations, and may also, as Lurz ... Nursing theories lead efforts as a discipline to stay focused on nursing phenomena, and hence provides the roadmap for the development of knowledge and the practice of nursing itself (Pamela, 2011). Nursing theories are practical in nature and facilitate communication with colleagues, students, and any others in health related services (Marlaine, 2015). Among many nursing theories and models, the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) has served framework for practice in a variety of settings. The adaptation level of integrated life processes is evident when human beings are functioning as whole, compensatory life processes reflect a challenge to integration, and compromised life processes indicate inadequate integration, which is considered problematic (DeSanto Madeya Fawcett, 2016). Relationship to nursing metaparadigm The nursing metaparadigm is the central concept in nursing. There are four concepts; persons, environment, health and nursing, and they have provided direction for nursing theory development (Fawcett, 1984). Modifications and alternative concepts for this metaparadigm have been explored throughout the disciplines (Marlaine, 2015). The relationship between the concepts describe, explain, or predict individuals or groups behavioral patterns as they are influenced by environmental factors during periods of wellness and illness (Fawcett, 1984). RAM has been developed for many decades, and contains many defined concepts, including the four metaparadigm concepts. The major concepts are people (both individuals and groups) as adaptive systems, the environment, health and the goal of nursing. Among the patient population seen at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts are pediatric patients in the Pediatric Associates office practice while across the campus are adult patients being seen in the Auburn Family Medicine Center (FMC). In both groups, providers have observed some patient disruption in the practice waiting areas. It appears that some parents are unable to manage the child s behavior while in the waiting area, and some adult patients in the FMC have continued to be overly disruptive. Each year anticipation for the start of the new season builds as dedicated fans eagerly await for game time. People can t help but love the high energy and intensity each game provides. Once a favorite team is picked, fans follow the season in hopes that their team makes big at the Super Bowl. Whether going to experience a game in person or being able to watch it on T.V the love people have for football is evident. The National Football League s popularity draws in the largest amount of fans who fill stadiums to full capacity and even more viewers who watch the broadcasts. The NFL is a huge market that many consider displaying monopoly power. I believe that the NFL is indeed a monopoly due to the lack of competition/substitutes at that level, the high barriers to entry, and their economies of scale. Since the formation of the NFL, numerous football leagues have attempted to compete for control over the professional football market. The National Football League has successfully been able to eliminate their rivals from the market. In 1926, the American Football League (1st AFL) merged called it quits after not making enough profits. In 1937, the American Football League (2nd AFL) stopped its league after having reached limited audiences. In 1942, the American Football League (3rd AFL) permanently discontinued their league due to the toll of World War II. In 1947, the World Football League (WFL) ceased to exist because of being in a smaller market and not having enough money. In 1949, the All American Football Conference (AAFC) became incapable of maintaining its league as a result of the direct competition it faced from the NFL. During this time period, professional football had a relatively small market. The minimal number of attendees, as well as financial problems, caused the AAFC to merge with the NFL. The All American Football Conference willingly handed over the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Indianapolis Colts (formerly the Baltimore Colts) to the National Football League. • 10. Third-Person Shooter Game Analysis In a third person shooter game, the player s character is seen on the screen whereas in a first person shooter game, the screen is viewed through the eyes of the character. The video game industry has made great advances since the 1970 s when gaming images were simplistic and therefore not very graphic nor realistic (Gentile, Lynch, Linder, Walsh, 2004). Nowadays, with the prevalence of highly violent and realistic video games involving person to person brutality, there are rising concerns regarding its effects on users real life thoughts and behaviors particularly in youth. Bandura states people are more likely to attend to, recall, and imitate media violence that they believe could exist in real life (Bandura, 1965 as cited in Brewer, 2011, p.17). It has a higher rate of sensory realism, which refers to to formal features of a representation that progressively simulates the same experience in the natural environment (Williams Clippinger, 2002). When playing a first person shooter game, players may feel more personally targeted, since they are witnessing and conducting violent actions as if they are the character. This can lead players to experience higher levels of identification and engagement with the violence. For example, when describing the gaming experience, players of a first person game may say, I just got shot. It is a way of being human and having a feeling of compassion, sympathy or regard for others the way we have for ourselves. There is this famous saying of Abraham Lincoln When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad. That s my religion. Managers of tobacco companies cannot pretend they do not know that tobacco is dangerous for our health. • 13. The Consequences Of Human Rights In The Holocaust Renowned Zimbabwean revolutionary Robert Mugabe states, Cooperation and respect for each other will advance the course of human rights worldwide. Confrontation, vilification, and double standards will not. This quote vocalizes what human rights are and the steps necessary for liberty. However, this set of rights are constantly in violation of mankind itself in innumerable instances. The most evident event that violated these rights is the Holocaust in World War II. This Holocaust was the persecution of Jews and people deemed unfit by Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party during the nineteen thirties and forties. Though this catastrophic event caught the attention of the world, this is not the only time in history human rights being in violation. The Japanese effort in World War II to create biological weapons for the war is another example of human rights being taken away by mankind. After this war, the United Nations created a Universal Declaration of Human Rights , Article Five stating, No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Elie Wiesel, wrote the memoir, Night, that captured the hearts of millions of people in his survival of the Holocaust as a Jew. The harrowing events of the Holocaust and Nazi occupation of the Netherlands left little room for tenderness towards other people yet, as Betsie ten Boom, Corrie s older sister showed time and time again, it is always possible to find it within oneself to forgive another, especially with God s assistance. Betsie forgives Jan Vogel, the man who betrayed the ten Boom family to the German army. The knowledge that Annalise does escape and that Nollie was released from prison quickly leads others to believe that maybe her trust was rewarded (110). Enron was originally written by Lucy Prebble, directed by Rodney Lee Rodgers, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of Theatre and Dance. An interesting story enfolds about the tremendous scandal during the 2000 s which led to the inevitable downfall of the company and leader, Jeffery Skilling. Rodgers emphasized the corruption of money and the plummet of a once powerful man, Jeffery Skilling, Enron required some level of knowledge about the historical scandal and the stock market. The audience endured three hours of this business production. With little knowledge or interest in business and corporations, I personally struggled to connect with the cast and stay in touch with the plot because of the many distractions dancing about the stage. However, the acting, set design, and the direction produced a wonderful, informative production. Primarily, the cast, overall, was hard to connect with on a deeper level. The actress who particularly stood out from the rest was Hayden Haring as Claudia Roe. She showcased a powerful, intelligent woman who often stayed in the shadows due to patriarchy. As a female in society today, this character was the only one I truly felt pity. On the other hand, Skilling;s daughter played by Erin Cooper made me increasingly uncomfortable. • 16. Philadelphia Chromosome And Leukemia Essay Essay 88: The Philadelphia Chromosome and Leukemia The so called Philadelphia chromosome is an abnormal chromosomal structure present in most cases of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and to a lesser extent in other types of leukemia, most notably acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). The origin of the term Philadelphia chromosome simply reflects the fact that a research team first identified this abnormality in a blood sample from a leukemia patient in Philadelphia, PA. CML vs. Acute Leukemias Unlike acute forms of leukemia, in which the cardinal manifestations (fever, weight loss, and fatigue) appear abruptly, patients with CML may be asymptomatic for months or even years prior to diagnosis. Even after diagnosis, many patients with chronic forms of leukemia survive 5 10 years or longer. In approximately 90% of CML patients an abnormal structure known as the Philadelphia chromosome results from an event known as a chromosomal translocation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In CML, a chromosomal translocation occurs between chromosomes 9 and 22. Geneticists abbreviate this event t9:22. The result of this t9:22 translocation is the juxtaposition of the c abl tyrosine kinase gene on chromosome 9 with the bcr (breakpoint cluster region) on chromosome 22. The product is an abnormal fusion gene that encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase called bcr abl. The bcr abl protein is a perpetually active version of a cell proliferation signal. The normal versions of these intracellular tyrosine kinases are generally inactivated unless the cell is responding to growth factors or cytokines that promote cell proliferation. It was in late may and early June in 1942, during the world war II, that Sydney harbour actually experienced an invasion or attack from three Japanese Midget submarines. On the night of 29th may 1942, five Japanese substantial submarines positioned themselves 56 kilometers north east of the entrance of Sydney harbour. Individual Ethics Case Study Given the current pressures on China, Jamaica, and America expressed in the article, one would anticipate that ethics would play different roles in the financial, environmental, and cultural issues for each of the three countries. However, in the case study, it does not appear that the people from the three different countries really take different approaches to most ethical scenarios. In fact, the decisions made by people in all three countries were very similar. There was one significant difference; Jamaicans were more likely to choose a scenario that would result in pollution than Americans or the Chinese. However, Jamaicans were still less likely to choose to pollute than they were to choose not to pollute. Otherwise, financial and cultural issues seemed to have similar impacts on their ethical decision making, despite the different historical and cultural backgrounds and present realities of the three different countries. For many people, business ethics seems to be a Western phenomenon. Therefore, adopting western business ethical standards would seem to be particularly challenging for China, thought that is belied by the results of the research. However, it should come as no surprise that the Chinese make ethical decisions that are similar to Americans. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. • 27. Traditional M Ā Ori s Environmental Ethic Traditional Māori did have an environmental ethic . Traditional Māori are the people who were living in New Zealand before European settlement. Aldo Leopold describes environmental ethic as actions of self denial in order that other species may benefit . Traditional Māori are a good example of a society who did have environmental ethic. They were conscious of sustaining the environment because of their spiritual belief that they were related to the land and equal with nature . They also believed that they were borrowing the land and they had to take care of it for future generations and this shaped the way they lived . Early Māori s environmental ethic is also shown in the ways they restricted harvests and protected the landscape. They used their language to impose restrictions and developed techniques and knowledge that informed them on the most sustainable ways to hunt and gather . However, moas did become extinct due to Māori over hunting them but Māori did learn from this mistake . All of this shows that traditional Māori did have environmental ethic. One important aspect of Māori culture that effects their environmental ethic is their spiritual relationship with the environment. Māori believe that everything on earth descend from Rangi and Papa . Jake s fear of intimacy is due in part to his concern for the truth; he states that although he once briefly thought of marrying Anna, he has never wanted a communion of the souls because it is already hard enough to tell the truth to oneself (p31). Jake nevertheless again comes to care deeply for Anna, and in a frantic search of Paris, he finally finds her at the city s fireworks celebration: The river was black now under the night sky and glassy, a black mirror in which every lamp raised a pole of light and the conflagration in the sky above dropped an occasional piece of gold. Golding contributed to British Literature by writing several works for which he was acknowledged. His most famous work is a novel called Lord of the Flies which was published in 1954. Lord of the Flies is still being read today around the world. In addition, two movie versions based on the novel were released. The first version was released in the United States in 1963 and the second version was released in 1990. The Lord of the Flies remains a relevant piece of literature today as it shows what happens in nature when there is no central governing body. • 31. Fire Stimulates Seed Germination Of Acacia Falcata Fire Stimulates Seed Germination of Acacia Falcata Laura Knight Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, NSW 2109, Australia Keywords: heat, stimulation, seedling emergence, growth. Introduction Acacia species are typically abundant in Australia, where bushfires are a regular occurrence in summer. The viability of Acacia in this area has been recognised as an outcome of the stimulatory impact of fire on Acacia seed germination (Bell et al., 1993). Seed germination success is influenced by soil conditions and physical damage. Soil nutrients normally increase after a fire. A rapid release of elements occurs, which without fire, would slowly become available through plant litter decay (Certini, 2005). Therefore, with an increase in the amount of nutrients available, nutrient cycling is increased, providing a prosperous environment for plants. The temperature and heat produced from fires seemingly has a significant influence on terminating seed dormancy, and consequently activating seed germination. The physical burning from fire breaks the hard seed coat, increasing water and nutrient consumption, and resulting in greater germination (Mucunguzi and Hannington, 1996). In addition, previous studies have shown that the Lolium species is damaged by fire (Barclay et al., 2004). The surface crowns of some Lolium species are more vulnerable to damage, which displays a lower tolerance to fire (Akinola et al., 1998). Endurance is relative to the intensity of the ... Intro Population health planning is based on the social model of health, aiming to improve the health of entire populations and reduce inequities, recognising that environmental, economic, social, cultural and behavioural factors contribute to health and wellbeing. Identifying causes of poor health is critical, as addressing these causes is the main method of improving population health outcomes. As the range of possible causative factors is vast, and are often interdependent, population health planning cannot be the responsibility of only a single sector, local government or organisation. Effective planning utilises partnerships between communities, private and not for profit sectors and governments. Investments are made in areas with greatest potential for positive population health change. The basic notion is that actions taken earlier in causal streams yield greater population health gains. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013) Method g Discussion of Key Issues The population health approach has been criticised as assuming health is absence of illness, as opposed to the WHO definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . This definition of health recognises the environmental context surrounding an individual, placing greater emphasis on conditions that create wellbeing as opposed to a biomedical view that focuses on single diseases, and in a sense is seen as more efficient and ... • 34. The Experimenter Must Conduct Electrolysis Essay The purpose of this experiment is to confirm Avogadro s number. To do this the experimenter must conduct electrolysis. Electrolysis, as given to us in the experiment instructions, is where an external power supply is used to drive an otherwise nonspontaneous reaction. A zinc strip and a copper strip will be used as electrodes. Electrodes are devices that move electrons into or out of a solution by conduction ( Definition ). The electrodes will be placed into a beaker of sulfuric acid. By using the copper strip as the anode and the zinc strip as the cathode, the experimenter will make the cell electrolytic in order to oxidize a copper electrode. The anode of a device is the terminal where current flows in from outside and the cathode of a device is the terminal where current flows out (Denker). By measuring the amount of copper that was deposited in the electroplating process, the experimenter will be able to determine the average current in the reaction and determine the amount of atoms in one mole of copper. The experimenter will then compare this number to Avogadro s number, determining how accurate Avogadro s number is. In this experiment, the experimenter will be using a LabQuest, a Vernier Current Probe, a 1.5 volt DC power source, 2 connecting wires with alligator clips, an ohm resistor, a copper strip, and a zinc strip to set up the experiment.
