Distribution Power Systems Project Analysis
B. Gupta et al. (2007) [32] Currently distributes systems support different computing paradigms like
Cluster Computing, Grid Computing, Peer to Peer Computing, and Cloud Computing all involving
elements of heterogeneity. These computing distributed systems are often characterized by a
variety of resources that may or may not be coupled with specific platforms or environments. All
these topics challenge today researchers, due to the strong dynamic behaviour of the user
communities and of resource collections they use. D. Card et al.(2007)[33] This paper presents a
review on distributed generation planning in the distribution power system networks from different
power system performances such as minimization of real and reactive power loss... Show more

In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new
hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district
heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was
comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed
pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the
proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted
to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10
substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two
scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied
according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original
values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same
relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to
their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as
0.001 Hz. H. F. Deng et al.(2007)[35] Currently, increasingly transactional requests require high

Materialism During The Romantic Poem Era
Materialism, toxic to our happiness, yet often ignored. Materialism was a pressing social issue
during the industrial revolution and the Romantic Poem Era. It was written about by many well
known Romantic poets of the time including; Blake, Shelley, Coleridge and Wordsworth. Despite
the extensive development of the world from the times of Romantic Poets to our modern day
society, materialisation is still present. This issue has it s claws sunk into our modern world, with
contemporary artists Madonna, Pink Floyd and AC DC writing about their outlooks on the subject.
Materialism demonstrated by poets during the Romantic Era is still relevant in modern society and
contemporary artist s lyrics.
The context in which these lyrics and poem were written depended on the world around the authors.
William Wordsworth, was a Romantic Era poet, of spiritual and epistemological speculation...
concerned with the human relationship to nature 5. Wordsworth was living in the midst of the
industrial revolution, where people felt they had to move forward with the technology of the time.
They then became wrapped in consumerism and materialism, whilst moving away from nature. The
Romantics weren t very enthusiastic about these changes they were especially concerned about
people moving away from nature 8. The World is Too Much with Us, written by Wordsworth,
explores societies movement away from nature and towards the mechanical world. Whereas, the
band AC DC explores the subject of

Spain and the Balkans came under a long period of Muslim rule as did Iran and the middle
eastern countries, which were completely subsumed. Indian culture showed remarkable vitality
and survived. Perhaps this was a positive aspect of the rigid codification of laws and the caste
system. China and Japan were geographically isolated and never faced large scale invasion from
Islam, which anyway spread in Indonesia , the Philippines and malaysis, with the waning of
Indian power. East Asia was in fact an important sphere of Indian cultural export, with the
Srivijaya Empire, the Majpahit Empire and so on ruling for long. Here as Indian power
fragmented and declined. Islam and then European commercialist colonialism stepped in. And yet
much of Indian culture survived, in Indochina and Indonesia among other places, and Bali is still
Hindu. Indeed India did expand as a culture, via Buddhism all over East Asia and Ceylon, where
Indian sages spread the word of Buddha. Asoka was a self conscious cultural proselytizer. The
terms like Bhumiputra as well as names show the persistence of india cultural forms even in the 20th

Scarlet Letter Superiority
When we as individuals have the power to act, speak and think with restraint, which is what we
consider to be freedom. America is routinely conceptualized, as a place that offers absolute
freedom, where a person s chances in success are limited only by their capability and devotion not
by social status, or race, or gender, or any other condition. Novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his
paperback fiction, The Scarlet Letter, delineates an unpleasant society that strictly punishes sinners,
as they are constantly watched they are not able to act freely as it goes against the nature of
Christian thought, and the aftermath for social organization. Hawthorne s purpose is to channel the
idea to his readers that, in his time period of life, social hypocrisy and discrimination very much
existed. As he then begins to go into depth the universal human struggle he experienced, he adopts a
moralizing tone in order to engage and develop the humanity within the readers themselves, despite
the ignorance of humanity itself as well as the necessity to be the superior. Superiority and
dominance is one of the most important aspects in the society that takes place in his novel.
Hawthorne shifts to beginning his tribute to The Scarlet Letter by describing the very location
where the Puritans settled, in Boston, and how they regard individuals of other human traits and
religious practices as inferior. At the same time, he lists elements of nature in regards to mayhem
that threatens the very

Give Ireland Back To The Irish Discrimination. Violence. Political turmoil. This was the reality
that plagued Northern Ireland in a thirty year conflict known as The Troubles , which began in
1968 and ended in 1998. Paul McCartney s song Give Ireland Back to the Irish was written in
response to Bloody Sunday , and is an effective example of a rhetorical argument. Bloody Sunday
was a major incident that took place on January 30, 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On this
day, twenty six protesters were shot by British paratroopers and 14 died from their wounds.
(Crutchley). This song, written and recorded just two days after the incident, was aimed at raising ...

His aim was to make government officials realize the effects of their decisions and have more
sympathy to the people who were affected by the British Army s tactics. The line How would you
like it/If on your way to work/You were stopped by Irish soldiers prompts the listener to think
about how they would feel if the situation was reversed, and Ireland had sent troops into Britain to
perpetuate conflict and injustice. The line Great Britain and all the people/Say that all people must
be free highlighted the hypocrisy of the British government and how it stated that all people must
be free, yet it was sending in its own violent troops instead of letting the Irish government and
military forces handle the conflict (McCartney). This was also shown through the title statement
give Ireland back to the Irish , because McCartney urged Britain to relinquish military control of
Ireland because clearly the presence of the British army did not help the situation rather, it furthered
the conflict. McCartney further played on the sympathies of his listeners with the line Meanwhile,
back in Ireland/There s a man who looks like me (McCartney). He pointed out that there are
similarities between everyone, and implied that we are all people with human rights who should not
mistreat each other. In the line He dreams of God and country... And he s sitting in a prison showed
that Irish citizens wanted peace and loyalty in their country but instead they were mistreated and
subjected to injustice, largely resulting from the British government s military strategies

My Sacagawea Experience
Sacagawea By: Brooke I am Sacagawea and I am going to tell you a little about my lifetime. I was
born in 1788. As a child, I was a happy person, but when I was 12 I got captured. I left my family
and I was so sad. I became a slave and my life was miserable. Then I got sold to Toussaint
Charbonneau. He made me marry him. I didn t want to but I had to. I stayed with my husband. I
liked to have an adventure in my life and was brave, so I kind of was like my husband. I didn t like
to just sit around I liked to move around and face people. That is me as a child and what I am like
on the inside. By that time the expedition that was led by Meriwether Lewis was going through
where I lived. Lewis decided... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I helped all kinds of people get water. I also let the Indians get more water to survive. The best
part is that I saw my brother on the expedition! He was the chief of the Shoshone Tribe. He gave
us horses and helped on the expedition. I helped people from the west get around and move to
other places. The other best part about the expedition was when I had my first child! I still went
on with the expedition and carried my son on my back. I named him Jean Baptiste Charbonneau.
I got sick on the expedition, but I faced it and was fine. My son also got sick, but we helped him
and he got better. I also had a daughter! I named her Lisette Charbonneau. That was life on the
expedition. When I created a path to let pioneers come west and move to other places some of
them settled in Colorado. Pioneers told stories and tales about Colorado. That let other people
know about Colorado and come see it. Other Indians and pioneers settled in Colorado and made
houses. The land was free so they farmed, they built, they hunted, they cooked, and traded. A lot
of people loved Colorado and that was because of me. After the expedition because I let people
come into Colorado I became

VOD and a bunch of platforms in the States. Well, you are definitely keeping busy with work and
your son. So how have you been able to manage all the family stuff and keeping your career
going? All I want to do is stay at home with the family. But it s been nice that I ve been able to
work enough to support us. Sarah s actually working on a few things. We actually saw her at
Christmastime. Yeah, she s back auditioning, so you ll see her some more. She had a pretty
awesome year hanging out with Harry. It s just nice to have her at home taking care of Harry.

she s working, and then we ll switch back. Sounds like both have things figured out pretty well. Not

A Research On Investment Portfolio Project
Investment Portfolio Project
Five companies have been chosen in order to conduct research into the securities that they use
within their company. The five companies are: Oracle, Disney, Cisco, Wal mart and a general
electric company. The companies chosen span over various industries starting with Oracle and
Cisco which are technology companies, Disney which is in the movie industry, Wal Mart which is
a supermarket and lastly an electricity service industry company. This gives us a better view of how
the securities change depending on not only the company but also the industry which they are
involved in.
For each company we will be looking into the 10K and investment reports, general economic data
and Federal Reserve data. 10K reports are an annual comprehensive summary report of a company
s performance (Investopedia, 2015). Investment reports on the other hand, highlight the investments
the company has made into other companies or vice versa. General economic data is what it says
on the tin it focuses on the economic status of the country and the industry. And lastly, Federal
Reserve data provides us with information from their innovative research on a broad range of
topics in economics and finance. (Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, 2015).

Child Labor Rights
Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez, and Malala Yousafzai all fought for the rights that they believed
in. They all were leaders part of a big picture. Although these three individuals used different
methods to get their point across, they all had courage to speak out about injustice and improve
human rights. Mother Jones was a lady who stood up for all of the children who were mistreated
because of child labor. When trying to get her point out, Mother Jones went to newspapers for
public articles on what was happening to these working children. Unfortunately, the factories
owned the newspapers so they wouldn t publish her position on the subject, so she made her
own form of publicity by forming a march of children and parents. (Josephson). She was an
activist for the abolishment of child labor. Mother Jones had a lot of courage to speak out even
though not a lot of people listened. After publicly marching to Sagamore Hills, Judith Pinkerton
Josephson states, Within a few years, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and other states did
pass tougher child labor laws. The federal government finally passed a child labor law (part of the
Fair Labor Standards Act) in 1938 thirty five years after the march of the mill children. Mother
Jones was persistent on getting her message out in public because so many people were clueless on
what was happening to the children. She would most definitely say that defending all human rights
is a necessity because even though this particular issue

Dead Sea Scrolls The Dead Sea Scrolls are a group of 800 900 manuscripts found in caves at
Qumran east of Jerusalem and north west of the Dead Sea. The first scrolls were discovered in
1947 by a shepherd boy who wandered into a cave after a stray goat. The texts are believed to have
been hidden in eleven caves for safe keeping prior to the destruction of Rome in A.D.70. The
scrolls are a collection of biblical and non biblical documents comprising of the Hebrew Bible,
(every book except Esther); the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha; rules for community life; biblical
commentaries; a Testimonia, (a collection of verses from the Bible about the Messiah); a War

This discovery shows the extraordinary accuracy between the two sets of manuscripts. The texts
are believed to have been written by a strict Jewish sect called the Essenes. This religious
community led by one they called the Teacher of Righteousness lived a demanding routine of self
discipline. Their interpretation of the law was severe, they held fellowship meals to which
admission was closely guarded. They interpreted prophetic scripture as referring to events of their
own day and believed that they had an important part to play in the hope of Israel. 2
HOW MUCH CAN THEY HELP US UNDERSTAND THE NEW TESTAMENT? The dead sea
scrolls offer unique information from a time during the second temple period when Jewish
religious and political life in Palestine was full of corruption and conflict. There were three main
Jewish groups during this time; the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Essenes. It has also been
confirmed that there were many other groups and movements in Secondary Temple Judaism. It is
now evident that Judaism in the land of Israel was open to Greek influences from the 3rd century
onwards in the areas of language, economics, military strategy, politics, culture and religion .3 The
scrolls shed light on the time when Jesus and John the Baptist lived and the beliefs of the early
Christians. We are given information on the way things were at that time; the laws of the day,
things that Jesus and the apostles had trouble

In real life, humans have many traits that allow us to be considered top of the hierarchical food
chain, yet allow us to remain in classifications with animal species mammals. Humans are a highly
developed species, with abilities that surpass nearly all other animals on the planet. This being said,
this complexity allows for many conflicts to arise, as well as differing opinions on solutions.
Although humans are so evolved, some argue that animal instincts found in humans are still quite
prevalent. In The Walking Dead, the virus being embedded in everyone s brain could be a reflection
of humans inherent animalistic qualities. If we continue with this analogy, the virus could represent
the potential that every human has to become a monster (in a figurative sense in reality, or a literal
sense in the series). This furthers the idea that zombie narratives tend to mirror societies fears and
anxieties over the condition of the world, or possible events that could occur, all while placing
responsibility at the hands of humanity. Although The Walking Dead in particular does not explain
the cause of the outbreak, or blame humanity, it does reflect how humanity can take charge of the
situation as well as express moral values that humanity should strive

The Baghavad Gita, Yoga Sutras Of Patanjai, And The Hatha
The Baghavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjai, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika are all considered to be
revolutionary texts. Their teachings depart from earlier traditions and propose many approaches to
enlightenment. Through their definition of yoga or their philosophical goals, each contain some
similarities as well as aspects that make each of them unique.
The epic text of the Bhagavad Gita defines yoga as the skill of union with the ultimate reality or
the absolute. The work comes to us in the form of dialogue between Lord Sri Krishna and the
princely warrior Arjuna, which occurs just before the onset of the devastating Mahabharata war.
The Yoga Sutras by Patanjali also define yoga as a union of the parts of ourselves, and sutra means

This first step is that the student is ready to listen. Then the student ruminates on what the guru

and meditation on it. Upanishad means to sit near which represents the relationship between the

yoga is meant for the good of all creatures, and a true Yogi was always desirous of benefitting as

What Are The Similarities Between Mannerism And Realism
Mannerism and Realism are two periods in the history of art that did not born by themselves but
were part of a greater movement or originate because they do not accept the convention of the
previous movement. In these essay the main artists from these two movement will be compared in
order to show how art has changed over three centuries of world changes. The first artist that will
be analyzed is El Grecofrom Mannerismand the second one is Gustave Courbet, a representative of
Realism. An interesting fact about these two artist is that even though they lived in different
epochs they have chosen the same theme for one of their paintings and this allows to a more

El Greco was fascinated by the Italian Reinassance and by Mannerism, he uses art to express his
religious fervor and devotion in paintings like Burial of Count Orgaz instead Courbet is living in
a period of political instabily and fights for the civil rights so he found himself closer to Realism,
an art movement that express these values and produce his masterpiece Burial at Ornans to show
that common people have the same dignity and were not inferior to other social classes such as
aristocracy and that art should focus more on the depiction of the common. The transition from
what is pleasant and idealized to what is its opposite is abrupt and not gradual and it is caused by
political events like the French reovolution where the painters, spokesman of the society along
with writers, refused to represent what is good to be seen but the reality that still should be valued
and this is why the Burial at Ornans had become more popular and appreciated over time even
though at the beginning it was highly criticized instead The Burial of Count Orgaz can be clearly
put in the category of religious art in this case intepreted according to the Mannerist convections.

Compare And Contrast American Football Vs Rugby
Third Draft American Football vs Rugby.
Patriots, Falcons, Eagles, Ravens, ever heard of any of these teams? Chances are you have and
probably the Super Bowl as well. All of these teams and the Super Bowl itself are part of the NFL
or National Football League, which if you haven t heard of before is a well run organization that
specializes in running a national league for American Football inside the United States. My thesis В·
that American Football is the better sport financially as its organized significantly better an ugly
and therefore its more successful thanks to financial funding and backup. American Football is
undoubtedly the most watched sport in the US racking up over 16.5 million views on average in
the 2016 NFL season. This was a substantial drop from 2015s 17.9 million views but still enough to

Oppression in Belarus

1990, and wrote a Declaration of State Sovereignty. The newly formed republic became
primarily communist, mainly because of all the Russian integration that had already occurred. In
1994, The Republic of Belarus elected Alexander Lukashenko as the President of Belarus. He
was officially reelected in 2001, 2006 and 2010. However, the United States (as well as other
western Nations) does not recognize the results of the 2010 elections under which the Central
Election Commission of Belarus declared Lukashenko president. This is because Western countries
decried the election as a farce and an egregious affront to democracy and human rights. Many of
Lukashenko s opposition leaders had mysterious disappearances. The United States and the
European Union called for the release of all imprisoned former candidates, but took no further
action except a travel ban on Lukashenko. By contrast, countries such as Syria, Russia, and China
congratulated the re elected incumbent. This is just a sample of the Dictatorship that is veiled as a
Republic in Belarus.

The Minimum Driving Age Should Be Raising The Driving Age
The minimum driving age should not be raised or lowered. In Illinois, for example, the driving
age is 16 years old. At a first glance, it seems better to wait until teens are older to begin driving.
However, it is apparent that no matter what age a person starts driving, it is up to the driver to
determine how safely he or she will drive. It would be pointless to raise the drivingage for many
reasons. The 16 year old requirement to receive a driver s licenseis a standard and common rule.
All but a few states use this standard. The driving age should be 16 because accidents happen to
everyone, 16 year olds should learn responsibility, 16 year olds are not the only immature
humans, and 16 year olds have good mental development. Firstly, accidents happen to everyone.
People believe that the reason younger teens are more likely to experience a car accident or
wreck is that they have the least experience. That is not always the case. If the age is moved to
18, for example, 18 year olds are still just as inexperienced as the 16 year olds. Teens who have
little practical experience of driving in the real world will be just as dangerous at any age. Until
they have received practice, these drivers are potentially threatening. Driving is a skill that has to
be learned. One must develop this skill through experience. Secondly, 16 year olds need to learn
responsibility. By the time children are 16, they need to take on priorities for themselves such as
personal transportation.

Harkness Reflection
I was sitting around the Harkness table clueless of what to say as my peers were leading the
conversation. It was the first day of class and we were already trying out the Harkness discussion
method. All 14 students in my class, as well as the teacher were seated around the oval, wooden
table. The Harkness discussion is a learning method originated in Phillips Exeter Academyto discuss
ideas and topics in a environment where everyone is encouraged to participate. It is a student led,
open minded discussion with minimal interaction from the teacher.
During the Phillips Exeter Academy 5 week summer course, Project Exeter: A Greener Earth , this
course focuses on 3 areas: Why Art?, Alternative Energy Sources, and Advocating Change.
Throughout the course, all of my classes required the Harkness discussion. I thought that it was
extremely challenging to have the Harkness discussion as the learning method is totally different
to what we do in school, where we would just listen to the teacher and raise your hands to
participate. In the Harkness discussion, we don t need the teacher s permission to talk, we don t
have to raise our hands either, you can just participate whenever you want to, this gives us a chance

The Principles Of The Company Law, The Uk Cape Industries...
The Salomon principle dictates that if the company is established in accordance with the
requirements of the Companies Act 2006, it starts to operate as a separate legal entity. The
corporate veil becomes the dividing line between this entity and its shareholders. However, it soon
became obvious that this concept can be easily abused, therefore Courts fought hard in order to
establish exceptions to the Salomon principle in the form of lifting or piercing the veil, allowing
them to look behind the curtain if they spot some irregularity. In order to justify these drastic
measures, Courts would look for something substantive, such as an agency relationship, fraud,
avoidance of obligations, or group piercing grounds. In order to determine... Show more content on

As described by Professor Gower, once the company is registered, the corporate veil comes
down between the existing company and the shareholders, protecting them from any potential
liability. Soon it became apparent that the companies could be easily abused and used for
improper purposes. As a response to these developments, Court would use the concepts of lifting
and piercing of the veil in order to go behind the veil and attach an appropriate liability to those
who were behind it. Lifting of the veil was seen as the least drastic option, as the Court would
look behind to see if there is some impropriety, and put the veil down, still recognising the
company as a separate legal entity. Whereas piercing would involve tearing up the veil,
completely disregarding company as a separate entity and looking at it as an agent for another.
The process is very ad hoc, and therefore based on the discretion of the Courts. In order to
persuade the Court to look behind the corporate veil, the grounds must be substantive. One of
the established exceptions justified by the Court in order to lift the veil is when the evidence
shows that the company is being used as a device for avoidance of existing obligations. The good
examples of this exception would be the cases of Guildford Motors v Home and Jones v Lipman. In
Jones v Lipman Russell J ordered specific performance

What Are Wes Anderson s Auteur Theory
Auteur Theory Wes Anderson Case Study
Wes Anderson, an American director widely known for his idiosyncratic films, is the epitome of
an auteur. However, what does being an auteur entail, and why are directors like Anderson (and e.g.
Woody Allen, Akira Kurosawa or Alfred Hitchcock) separate from metteur en scenes or those
simply regarded as filmmakers? To even begin justifying Anderson s auteur status, prior knowledge
of the history of auteur theory and its intended function is essential. Authorship was introduced by
filmmaker Francois Truffaut, a catalyst of the French New Wave (1958 1962), to advocate that ...a
great director speaks through his films no less than a master novelist speaks through his books...
(Powell, 2010, para 8). It is also used to address the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Notes on the Auteur Theory (1962), film critic Andrew Sarris formalised auteurs theory by
explaining the auteur, the main creative force behind a film, must consistently demonstrate three
premises: technical competence, personal style and interior meaning (Sarris, 1962). Wes Anderson
accomplishes all of these criterions of value. Each of his films, which are inspired by personal
experiences, are concerned with triggering nostalgia through ...common themes of childhood,
adolescence, maturity, desire, friendship, male bonding... , the trappings of wealth/luxury and
familial dysfunction (Dilley, 2017, pp16). As such, by analysing key scenes from throughout
Anderson s oeuvre of work, one can see how Anderson s auteur status is justified. For the purpose
of remaining succinct, key scenes will be drawn from only Rushmore (1998),

King Arthur was a man of secrets, illusions, and tricks, yet he did all of these deceitful actions to
attain his one goal, and that was the coveted Holy Grail. The Holy Grail was very appealing to
him for many reasons, and it actually still has this significance to date. Supposedly, or
historically, the Holy Grail was said to have been the cup that Jesus Christ had poured his blood
into for his disciples to drink at the Last Supper. However, before anyone got the chance to drink
in for the remembrance of him, he was whisked away and interrogated by the Jewish priests. He
then was brought before Pontius Pilate, sentenced to death, and died on the cross. Yet after his
death, one of his loving followers, Joseph, used the chalice to collect the blood that Jesus gave
for humanity. Joseph then proceeded to hide this chalice from the Jewish priests who desired it,
and was immediately arrested and jailed because of this. However, all hope was not lost. Jesus
appeared before Joseph, carrying the cup (Grail) that brought radiance into his dark cell. Jesus
gave the chalice, which would be called the Grail, into Joseph s safekeeping (Ashe). It was in
Joseph s possession from there on out, yet someone got the hint that he had hid it away again.

Jim Hawkins Heroism
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in
the light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 says, Just as the Son
of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV).
This is a verse that talks about one of the components of a true heros character. Those that I
mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others and their needs more
significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and
still stumbled and fell, but generally they were heroic according to the Bible. Although none can

But they are truly incorrect in their perception because neither Jim nor Silver qualify as heroes
when heroism as explained in the Bible is considered. Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver do not
think about others before themselves, lead by serving, and are not humble. They may indeed
have instances of good works, but that does not make them heroes. Furthermore, if good works
do not stem from the Holy Spirit s doing in your heart and are coming from your own self
righteousness, Isaiah 64:6 says, [...] all our righteous acts are like filthy rags [...] (NIV). Some
may think that Silver sparing Jim s life and Jim cutting the anchorage and sailing the Hispaniola
were heroic acts. But these acts were truly not coming from the heart of God s type of hero.
Silver did not really care about Jim s life. I says to myself, you stand by Hawkins, John, and
Hawkins ll stand by you. [...] You save your witness, and he ll save your neck! (127); Silver only
wanted Jim as a witness for him in court back in England. Silver s motivation was pure
selfishness. Likewise, Jim was prideful about how he sailed the Hispaniola to the North inlet after
cutting its anchorage. I had nothing nearer my fancy than to get home to the stockade and boast of
my achievements. (118); Jim just desired his shipmates to value him and wanted to be applauded
as the good sailors hero. Neither Silver nor

women, and as a playwright he created some of the most distinctive women characters of his day.
He was deeply influenced in this aspect of his writing by Henrik Ibsen.
This play deals with a lot many themes. To cite a few: Rewriting the tale of Cinderella and Sleeping
beauty, Class, language and phonetics and Independence.

patriarchal setup. Women, how much ever is qualified, is better than the opposite genderwhen it
comes to education, the opposite sex will always take her as a house maid or a person working

Eliza, in the climax scene vulnerably asks Higgins, why he made her a sophisticated Duchess if

Would the world ever have been made if its makes had been afraid of making trouble? (Act V,

the treasures of my Miltonic mind by spreading them before you. Higgins thus suffers from
intellectual snobbery. He belongs to the world of Shakespeare and Milton.

all women trapped in patriarchal setup says the below quote to Higgins, who is the representative

The motifs, themes and symbols illustrated in her literary works portray disquieting
remembrances, emotional turbulence, a stark sense of remoteness and an unheard voice to
combat oppressions. Her autobiographical novel, the Bell Jar pertinently encompasses the
protagonist s arduous journey as a delusional woman against the patriarchal society, symbolic of
Plath s solitude and self mutilation. I felt very still and empty, the way the eye of a tornado must
feel, moving dully along in the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo. Her poem Daddy
illustrated the mixed emotions she had towards her father, depicting an arch sentiment of
betrayal. She used Jews and Nazis as metaphors for their shattered relationship. In the German

figurative of brutality, signifying Plath s suicidal attempts. Emphasizing on her body parts as
separate from the whole; she pricked at the male dominant society s outlook for women as mere
objects. This piece of literature throws light at Plath s yearning and obsession on the subject of
death as she considered it to be an art. Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally
well. While Plath viewed death as the hostile ultimatum and a coercing ending along with
perceiving this natural phenomenon in the literal sense, Emily Dickinson, another established
American poet known for gothic elements and dark imagery reflective of her seclusion from the

Dickinson, death presented a two dimensional standpoint. It is what humans fear as well as long
for their entire life. In certain aspects, it may be symbolic of isolation, while in others it may

Ways for retail investors to access corporate bonds have continued to develop.
Regulatory changes to reduce impediments to retail investment in corporate bonds are slowly

School Funding Inequality And School Performance
INTRODUCTION
There are diverse and contradictory views on school funding inequalities and school performance.
Various research and reports have shown in great detail beyond this paper s scope that inequalities
in school funding does cause different outcomes for school children (Jackson, Johnson, Persico,
(2015. Unequal funding leads to unequal education: from the start, schools have different
resources and means to educate our children (Kozol, (1991). Other reports suggest that different
funding will lead to different social outcomes later on in life (Hyman, (2013); Biddle Berliner,
(2002). The fact is that schools in poorer neighborhoods all over the united states, funding are
limited and they have poorer schools (Kozol, 1991). Schools in richer areas and especially in
suburban white neighborhoods receive higher funding and they have better schools (Kozol, 1991).
Some argue that school funding is not the problem and throwing money at the problem would not
be the solution. This is somewhat contradictory because most well funded schools are
predominantly white. The schools are well lit, classrooms are spacious, student to teacher ratio is
smaller, labs are well equipped, hot lunches are plenty, and teachers are experienced and well paid
(Kozol (1991); Jackson, Johnson, Persico, (2015).

Conformity And Rebellion In Popular Culture Analysis
Conformity and Rebellion in Popular Culture and Sexuality In the first lecture for this class,
Professor Creekmur asked the question; is sex popular (Creekmur Aug. 20)? As he often does in
the course, Creekmur doesn t give a simple, clear cut answer, but instead offers a paradox, that
while sex is an aggressively private act, it is also a good that is consumed, in our magazines and
on our televisions. This paradox ultimately sets the stage for the rest of this class, demonstrating
how something as intimate as one s sexuality can come to reinforce popular conventions of
normalcy and deviancy within society at large, and what this essay will attempt to address.

The First Triumvirate between Gaius Julius Caesar, Gnaius Pompeius Magnus (Pompey) and
Marcus Licinius Crassus contributed to the fall of the Roman Republic by undermining the Senate,
which was unable to effectively deal with an expanding and diverse empire. This was affected by
the triumvirate appealing directly to popular assemblies, because their alliance conflicted directly
with the conservative Optimates, who refused to change with Rome s expansion. Though
ultimately because each triumvir, being an ambitious general and politician was clambering for the

for themselves long term governorships, (Crassus in Syria and Pompey in Spain). However, at
the end of 55BC, Pompey did not leave for Spain, instead remaining as the only Triumvir in
Rome, while Caesar and Crassus took the heads of powerful armies. In 53BC envious of Caesar
and Pompey s military victories, Crassus gathered an army and marched on Parthia. Unable to
cope with the enemy s tactics, the Roman army was slaughtered and Crassus himself killed. This
and the addition of the death of Julia (Caesar s daughter and Pompey s wife the strongest

mind. A small part of her knew that, if he really did exist, he wouldn t mind. In a moment of
childlike fantasy, she set a note next to the plate. Santa, IOU a dozen homemade chocolate chip
cookies. Excuse the paltry offerings. There s more of each in the kitchen if you d like. Wake me
up if you get another drink. I d be glad to join you. Beatrice.
The next morning, she awoke to the sounds of paper ripping. They hadn t even waited for her
before starting to open presents. As she entered the living room, she noted with dismay that the
crackers and glass of scotch were untouched. A small part of her had secretly hoped that her
parents would have taken some of each, like they had in her younger years, as a nod to their
previous efforts to perpetuate her belief in Santa.
Each member of her family had retreated into separate corners of the room to unwrap their gifts.
No one said a word to each other outside of the requisite thank you once a gift had been opened. No
one looked at each other and no one saw her begin to cry as she began to unwrap her small pile of
presents.
One by one, as each member of her family finished unwrapping, they left the room, arms

Authoritarianism In Russia
Throughout its long history, Russia has been trapped in a continuous cycle of authoritarian regimes;
only interrupted briefly with periods of tumultuous democratic transitions that were plagued by
poor bureaucracy and weak institutions. Therefore, time and time again, Russia has turned towards
authoritarianism. In the late 1900 s to early 2000 s, Russiaagain saw the fall of democracy coincide
with the rise of a competitive authoritarian regime. This rise of competitive authoritarianism in
Russia in the late 1900 s to early 2000 s was largely the result of the resource curse which granted
Putin s Administration false economic performance legitimacy. This in turn reinvigorated past
strongman ideals, while at the same time solidified negative... Show more content on

Democracy was already viewed poorly in Russia, whose only other experience plunged them
deeper into the depths of World War 1. This is significant because a majority of the Russian people
felt during that time that their voices were not heard. Therefore, it should be noted then, that when
Yeltsin took power, Russian s had not seen true representative democracy. When, Yeltsin took power
after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russians were wary. This illegitimate view towards democracy
was one of the reasons the resource curse had such a profound effect. The other that the economy
was weak and the government was unstable. This in part was attributed to the loss of over 15
states when the Soviet Union fell, and the trade and overall economic problems that the new
Yeltsin government assumed when this occurred. Even if Putin had been in power during this time,
he would have faced similar problems, the regime was not to blame. When the Soviet Union fell, it
was during a time where oil prices where falling, in fact, they would continue to fall until around
1996. The falling oil prices dramatically hurt the Yeltsin administration. When Putin took over,
world prices has begun to rise, further Putin privatized part of the oil industry, which allowed new
technologies to form, thus causing a booming oil economy in

Pros And Cons Of Foreign Affairs
Washington and Monroe believed that the United States should not get involved in European
affairs, and in hindsight, all foreign affairs, such as ones in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
Many Americans, including me, believe that we should not meddle in others affairs and keep to
ourselves. There are several strong political, and ethical arguments both sides can make.
Personally, I do not consider the other side to be wrong, there is truth to both ends of this debate,
but then again, the same can be said for all debates. As someone who supports staying neutral and
keeping to ourselves. I shall start with the pros of staying somewhat isolated from foreign affairs
and problems. The first major pro, is the lack of wars we are dragged into... Show more content on

But, one must think, how much is a foreigner s life compared to a fellow American s. The more
religious among the citizens believe that every life is equal, and they are not wrong from an
ethical standpoint. But many politicians, myself included, value American lives more than
foreign ones, although it is not ethically sound, I will always value a neighbor more than a
stranger. Back again to the Isis debate, if we did not intervene, all those people they were
spiritually cleansing would have been massacred, or at least more of them would have died.
This also brings us back to the lives debate, our intervention might lead to another ground
invasion of the Middle East and lead to more of our brave men and women being killed, all for
some foreign men and women who refused to adopt Isis s religion. It may not be ethically sound
but I would sacrifice any number of strangers, than have to tell an American mother or Father that
their son or daughter died overseas and wouldn t be coming home. That s only speaking of our
current conflict as well, I m sure we saved many Korean, Vietnamese, and Iraqi civilians, but at the
cost of thousands of our own brave citizens. Sometimes the right decision is not ethically pleasing,
but which decision is right all depends on the man or woman making it. I believe ethics should not
even be synonymous with political decisions, sometimes we are blinded by emotions and ethics,
and swayed by them to make unwise choices and

The Passion of the Feather Pen
The Passion of the Feather Pen Rayvon S. Harrell The poem peaceful decent is dedicated to my
Great grandmother Clarine B. Allen. Clarine B. Allen along with her husband J. D. Allen were
responsible for raising three generations of children to include my Grand mother, my mother and
her siblings as well as me an my two older sisters. To me this was one of the strongest women I
have seen walk this earth. This woman was a true blessing to me and all others that encountered
her. What makes her so special to me is the fact that she adopted my grand mother and raised
many more kids than she bargained for. If she wanted to give up she could have however she
kept us all. Peaceful Decent I seen a feather the other day dance it s way down, gently touch the
ground and refuse to make a sound. Is that not the saddest thing, to fall from a wing? Never to
fly again, it must hurt as you descend. However the saddest thing is also the most honorable,
because even though the feathers flight must cease it dances down touches the ground and
gently dies in peace. For You I went between the valley and picked a rose for you I thought that you
would like it so I bought you two. You said that you liked music so I wrote a song for you, created
a symphony and played it for you to view. You always seemed ambitious so I traveled to the moon
asked her for a favor and got a star for you. I wanted you to have more so I got a comet too. When
sickness harmed your body I found a cure for

Reexamining Crisis Management Philosophy
Personal Experience with Organizational Crises
In this paper, I present two riveting case scenarios containing the unadulterated recollection of my
direct personal experiences in crisis management. Both cases provide authoritative details of life
threatening events and the quick response by key individuals with direct corporate responsibility
for managing the pre crisis, in crisis and post crisis events. Crisis management is a highly complex
field. Therefore, a plausible approach to managing crises would require simplifying the functional
relationship of key variables. The main advantage to derive from a better understanding of the
correlation among key variables would be increased individual and institutional knowledge. I also

And, crisis management is the process of determining and influencing crisis points in a positive
direction. The opposite would be termed crisis mismanagement .
The traditional view of a crisis is that it is a turning point. The term was originally used in the
field of medicine (disease control). Therefore, it is a borrowed term with its genesis in the early
15th century, from a Latinized form of Greek krisis turning point in a disease (Online Etymology
Dictionary, n.d.). If a crisis cannot be defined in time (World Health Organization, n.d.) , then it is
an event or a point in time of 0 days duration. A milestone is defined as a significant event of no
duration (Project Management Institute, 2012). Therefore, a crisis and a milestone share similar
properties with respect to their time dimension.
The key difference between an emergency and a disaster lies in the resourcefulness of the
organization or state and the need for external intervention. Since, a crisis moment is difficult to
identify by focusing on the occurrence of the point in time; we should then divert our attention to
significant shifts in resource needs as a basis for determining crisis points.
My Roles and Responsibilities in Organizational Crises

Examples Of Personification In The Rime Of The Ancient...
Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a poet depicting the
adventures and experiences of a mariner sailing the seas. Throughout the poem, there a many
literary devices that bring the tale to life and help the readers understand the turmoil that the
mariner went through. Those devices include, but are not limited to, personification, metaphors,
alliteration, and assonances. Without the use of these elements, the poem would not have been as
effective. One of the most prominent literary devices that Coleridge uses in The Rime of the
Ancient Marineris personification. On example of such personification would be in part one of the
poem. Coleridge says:
The sun came up upon the left,
Out of the sea came he!
And he shone bright, and on the right
Went down into the sea (lines 25 28).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this, Coleridge develops the sun into a character of the story and it gives the readers a
more personal connection with it. It exemplifies its importance to both the mariner, and the story
in entirety. Another example of personification can be either seen as a realistic idea, or a
hallucination that the mariner views. Coleridge says The dead men stood together. All stood
together on the deck. This quote can be seen as the dead men are literally waking up, or that the
mariner is hallucinating from exhaustion and dehydration. Either way this quote gives a dead
person, living actions which results in a very descriptive

Half Fitz Alternate Ending
The sun cast its golden light through the leaves and the trees and onto the metal plating of the
jeeps and tanks. In autumn it was typically Fitz s favorite time for sights. The leaves fell and the
sun looked, to him, at their fullest. It was beautiful and as he stared it reminded him of his home
in Virginia, but unfortunately home was far from where he was and the smoke from behind
settled. His home was gone, yet the Autumn kept him steady. Fitz was reminded of his two
daughters, but he would see them no more. He winced. Autumn had been a usually calming
season, but he was at an unsteady alert staring ahead at the path. His thoughts were broken as
one of his fellow privates, Half Pint , as they called him because of his height, tapped Fitz on the
shoulder as he offered a cigarette. Fitz waved it away in silence because he didn t smoke. Ever.
Half Pint shrugged, lit it, and continued conversation with his comrades. Fitz, as he was old, was
wise enough to know that a single cigarette could not calm oneself, but damage them. He stared
thinking of the times he came home on leave. He tried to smile, but found no joy. Fitz only stared

Christian Medieval Medicine Research Paper
Christian medieval medicine was most certainly painful, very perilous, and possibly pointless. For
example, flagellation was quite common practice in Christian medieval Europe, as religion was
very prevalent in practice to do with curing oneself. There were other such harmful but generally
fruitless treatments, such as bloodletting (though in certain scenarios this could actually help with
the illness).
Along with this, there were also poisonous anaesthetics used. One such recipe contained useful
things to make poison pass and to make the patient unconscious. However, this also contained
hemlock, which is a poison that can be fatal.
Christianity played a huge part in the medicine of Europe at that time (the reason flagellation was
used), so prayer itself was also a common cure all, along with holy artefacts and other holy things.
People were also not permitted to perform dissection on cadavers, making it difficult if not
impossible for medicine to progress. This meant that it stayed ... Show more content on

This was due to the allowance of experimentation on cadavers, as well as them having access to
the Greek and Roman books Europe also had access to (to test against).
The medicine and approach to medicine was very scientific. They tested methodically against the
books and resources they had to make their own, to make medicine less perilous and pointless.
Most Islamic medicinal practice was still painful.
Somewhat contrary to the fact that their approach was scientific and methodical, many people in
the Islamic region used amulets to protect themselves from the evil eye and the genies they
believed caused all sorts of ailment.
Medicine was so ingrained in the culture, in a way so directly contrary to the way it was in
Europe, that it is no surprise that it was less perilous and pointless (yet not necessarily less painful)
than European medicine.

China s One Child Policy
China s population currently stands at 1.357 billion people. It is the most populous country in the
world and it is only increasing. The Chinese government has spent more than 40 years trying to
slow their population growth. They have done so through their controversial one child policy.
There is no denying that China s one child policy changed the lives of Chinese citizens when it the
Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1979 as a way of controlling population. Under Mao, the
government encouraged families to have as many children as possible, believing that a strong
nation grew out of a large population. By 1976, the population grew from 540 million people in
1949 to 940 million. The rapid increase in population stretched the resources that the CCP could
provide to the people. The government believed that a population control policy was the only way
they prevent the population from experiencing another dramatic increase in size . The CCP hoped
that the policy would alleviate some of the social and economic pressure an increasing population
created, and the policy has worked. According to data collected by the World Bank, China s birth
rate has fallen from 2.63 in 1980 to 1.217 as of 2014, preventing an estimate two hundred to four
hundred million births . For all its intended benefits, the one child policy has also brought many
unintended consequences, both harmful and beneficial; and these consequences have
disproportionately affect girl and women more than boys and men. The

Personification In The Pink Car
In recent generations, typical looks or ideas have dominated fashion. People write about this topic
through articles, newspapers, and papers. While models style and display the most recent styles,
they also represent what women should look like. Not until very recently, people have realized
that not all women look like models, unless they starved themselves or worse. In the poems, Fat is
Not a Fairy Tale and The Pink Car , the authors convey their main message of the poem as the
social aspect of the world and what they believe has the characteristics of the ideal person by using
imagery and personification. Admiration for individuality, a common theme throughout The Pink
Car , is constantly mentioned through the words of the Mark Halliday. Halliday personifies the cars
in the poem as people; specifically focusing in on the pink car. He repeatedly describes the other
cars in a jaundiced way; for example, he would characterize these cars as boisterous, rowdy, and
big. However, he identifies the pink car as disparate, one who does not worry or care about other
cars perspectives. The author wrote, Other cars might honk their horns to seem big // the pink
car doesn t honk and doesn t worry (Halliday 25 26). Halliday symbolizes the car as pink because
society commonly construes the color as feminist, sweet, playful, the color of love, flowers and
romantic. His intention of this poem was to help one find peace within themselves. The author
wanted the reader to see that pointing out one s flaws and blemishes cause people to become
someone who is arrogant and too self confident by referring to the other cars who did not have
the characteristics of the pink car. This poem definitely delineates what one wants to find in
themselves, the satisfaction and happiness they eventually discover. The author characterizes the
pink car with a certain type of satisfaction and pride which helps people look at themselves in a
much more positive and confident way. He wanted people to read this poem, and have people
realize that appearance does not define one s personality. He wanted people to grasp, that in a
similar way, pink should not let society define what it is.
In contrast to admiration described in the other

  • 2. Distribution Power Systems Project Analysis B. Gupta et al. (2007) [32] Currently distributes systems support different computing paradigms like Cluster Computing, Grid Computing, Peer to Peer Computing, and Cloud Computing all involving elements of heterogeneity. These computing distributed systems are often characterized by a variety of resources that may or may not be coupled with specific platforms or environments. All these topics challenge today researchers, due to the strong dynamic behaviour of the user communities and of resource collections they use. D. Card et al.(2007)[33] This paper presents a review on distributed generation planning in the distribution power system networks from different power system performances such as minimization of real and reactive power loss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper, with the help of the advanced automation and information technologies, a new hydraulic regulation method was proposed to achieve on site hydraulic balance for the district heating systems with distributed variable speed pumps configuration. The proposed method was comprised of a new hydraulic model, which was developed to adapt the distributed variable speed pumps configuration, and a calibration model with genetic algorithm. By carrying out the proposed method step by step, the flow rates of all distributed pumps can be progressively adjusted to their designated values. A hypothetic district heating system with 2 heat sources and 10 substations was taken as a case study to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Two scenarios were investigated respectively. In Scenario I, the flow rate of one substation varied according to its heat demand and the flow rates of other substations maintained their original values. And in Scenario II, the flow rates of all substations varied synchronously with the same relative rate. The results of the both scenarios indicated that all pumps could be properly adjusted to their designated flow rates by the proposed method with a high frequency adjustment resolution as 0.001 Hz. H. • 3. Materialism During The Romantic Poem Era Materialism, toxic to our happiness, yet often ignored. Materialism was a pressing social issue during the industrial revolution and the Romantic Poem Era. It was written about by many well known Romantic poets of the time including; Blake, Shelley, Coleridge and Wordsworth. Despite the extensive development of the world from the times of Romantic Poets to our modern day society, materialisation is still present. This issue has it s claws sunk into our modern world, with contemporary artists Madonna, Pink Floyd and AC DC writing about their outlooks on the subject. Materialism demonstrated by poets during the Romantic Era is still relevant in modern society and contemporary artist s lyrics. The context in which these lyrics and poem were written depended on the world around the authors. William Wordsworth, was a Romantic Era poet, of spiritual and epistemological speculation... concerned with the human relationship to nature 5. Wordsworth was living in the midst of the industrial revolution, where people felt they had to move forward with the technology of the time. They then became wrapped in consumerism and materialism, whilst moving away from nature. The Romantics weren t very enthusiastic about these changes they were especially concerned about people moving away from nature 8. The World is Too Much with Us, written by Wordsworth, explores societies movement away from nature and towards the mechanical world. Whereas, the band AC DC explores the subject of ... Spain and the Balkans came under a long period of Muslim rule as did Iran and the middle eastern countries, which were completely subsumed. Indian culture showed remarkable vitality and survived. Perhaps this was a positive aspect of the rigid codification of laws and the caste system. China and Japan were geographically isolated and never faced large scale invasion from Islam, which anyway spread in Indonesia , the Philippines and malaysis, with the waning of Indian power. East Asia was in fact an important sphere of Indian cultural export, with the Srivijaya Empire, the Majpahit Empire and so on ruling for long. Here as Indian power fragmented and declined. Islam and then European commercialist colonialism stepped in. And yet much of Indian culture survived, in Indochina and Indonesia among other places, and Bali is still Hindu. Indeed India did expand as a culture, via Buddhism all over East Asia and Ceylon, where Indian sages spread the word of Buddha. Asoka was a self conscious cultural proselytizer. • 5. Scarlet Letter Superiority When we as individuals have the power to act, speak and think with restraint, which is what we consider to be freedom. America is routinely conceptualized, as a place that offers absolute freedom, where a person s chances in success are limited only by their capability and devotion not by social status, or race, or gender, or any other condition. Novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his paperback fiction, The Scarlet Letter, delineates an unpleasant society that strictly punishes sinners, as they are constantly watched they are not able to act freely as it goes against the nature of Christian thought, and the aftermath for social organization. Hawthorne s purpose is to channel the idea to his readers that, in his time period of life, social hypocrisy and discrimination very much existed. As he then begins to go into depth the universal human struggle he experienced, he adopts a moralizing tone in order to engage and develop the humanity within the readers themselves, despite the ignorance of humanity itself as well as the necessity to be the superior. Superiority and dominance is one of the most important aspects in the society that takes place in his novel. Hawthorne shifts to beginning his tribute to The Scarlet Letter by describing the very location where the Puritans settled, in Boston, and how they regard individuals of other human traits and religious practices as inferior. At the same time, he lists elements of nature in regards to mayhem that threatens the very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Paul Mccartney s Song Bloody... Hope Wimer English 015 Sec. 038 Rhetorical Analysis 17 October 2014 Give Ireland Back To The Irish Discrimination. Violence. Political turmoil. This was the reality that plagued Northern Ireland in a thirty year conflict known as The Troubles , which began in 1968 and ended in 1998. Paul McCartney s song Give Ireland Back to the Irish was written in response to Bloody Sunday , and is an effective example of a rhetorical argument. Bloody Sunday was a major incident that took place on January 30, 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On this day, twenty six protesters were shot by British paratroopers and 14 died from their wounds. (Crutchley). This song, written and recorded just two days after the incident, was aimed at raising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His aim was to make government officials realize the effects of their decisions and have more sympathy to the people who were affected by the British Army s tactics. The line How would you like it/If on your way to work/You were stopped by Irish soldiers prompts the listener to think about how they would feel if the situation was reversed, and Ireland had sent troops into Britain to perpetuate conflict and injustice. The line Great Britain and all the people/Say that all people must be free highlighted the hypocrisy of the British government and how it stated that all people must be free, yet it was sending in its own violent troops instead of letting the Irish government and military forces handle the conflict (McCartney). This was also shown through the title statement give Ireland back to the Irish , because McCartney urged Britain to relinquish military control of Ireland because clearly the presence of the British army did not help the situation rather, it furthered the conflict. McCartney further played on the sympathies of his listeners with the line Meanwhile, back in Ireland/There s a man who looks like me (McCartney). He pointed out that there are similarities between everyone, and implied that we are all people with human rights who should not mistreat each other. In the line He dreams of God and country... And he s sitting in a prison showed that Irish citizens wanted peace and loyalty in their country but instead they were mistreated and subjected to injustice, largely resulting from the British government s military strategies ... • 7. My Sacagawea Experience Sacagawea By: Brooke I am Sacagawea and I am going to tell you a little about my lifetime. I was born in 1788. As a child, I was a happy person, but when I was 12 I got captured. I left my family and I was so sad. I became a slave and my life was miserable. Then I got sold to Toussaint Charbonneau. He made me marry him. I didn t want to but I had to. I stayed with my husband. I liked to have an adventure in my life and was brave, so I kind of was like my husband. I didn t like to just sit around I liked to move around and face people. That is me as a child and what I am like on the inside. I also let the Indians get more water to survive. The best part is that I saw my brother on the expedition! He was the chief of the Shoshone Tribe. He gave us horses and helped on the expedition. I helped people from the west get around and move to other places. The other best part about the expedition was when I had my first child! I still went on with the expedition and carried my son on my back. I named him Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. I got sick on the expedition, but I faced it and was fine. My son also got sick, but we helped him and he got better. I also had a daughter! I named her Lisette Charbonneau. That was life on the expedition. When I created a path to let pioneers come west and move to other places some of them settled in Colorado. Pioneers told stories and tales about Colorado. That let other people know about Colorado and come see it. Other Indians and pioneers settled in Colorado and made houses. The land was free so they farmed, they built, they hunted, they cooked, and traded. A lot of people loved Colorado and that was because of me. Although these three individuals used different methods to get their point across, they all had courage to speak out about injustice and improve human rights. Mother Jones was a lady who stood up for all of the children who were mistreated because of child labor. When trying to get her point out, Mother Jones went to newspapers for public articles on what was happening to these working children. Unfortunately, the factories owned the newspapers so they wouldn t publish her position on the subject, so she made her own form of publicity by forming a march of children and parents. (Josephson). She was an activist for the abolishment of child labor. Mother Jones had a lot of courage to speak out even though not a lot of people listened. After publicly marching to Sagamore Hills, Judith Pinkerton Josephson states, Within a few years, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and other states did pass tougher child labor laws. The federal government finally passed a child labor law (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) in 1938 thirty five years after the march of the mill children. The dead sea scrolls offer unique information from a time during the second temple period when Jewish religious and political life in Palestine was full of corruption and conflict. There were three main Jewish groups during this time; the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Essenes. It has also been confirmed that there were many other groups and movements in Secondary Temple Judaism. It is now evident that Judaism in the land of Israel was open to Greek influences from the 3rd century onwards in the areas of language, economics, military strategy, politics, culture and religion .3 The scrolls shed light on the time when Jesus and John the Baptist lived and the beliefs of the early Christians. Humans are a highly developed species, with abilities that surpass nearly all other animals on the planet. This being said, this complexity allows for many conflicts to arise, as well as differing opinions on solutions. Although humans are so evolved, some argue that animal instincts found in humans are still quite prevalent. In The Walking Dead, the virus being embedded in everyone s brain could be a reflection of humans inherent animalistic qualities. If we continue with this analogy, the virus could represent the potential that every human has to become a monster (in a figurative sense in reality, or a literal sense in the series). This furthers the idea that zombie narratives tend to mirror societies fears and anxieties over the condition of the world, or possible events that could occur, all while placing responsibility at the hands of humanity. • 20. The Minimum Driving Age Should Be Raising The Driving Age The minimum driving age should not be raised or lowered. In Illinois, for example, the driving age is 16 years old. At a first glance, it seems better to wait until teens are older to begin driving. However, it is apparent that no matter what age a person starts driving, it is up to the driver to determine how safely he or she will drive. It would be pointless to raise the drivingage for many reasons. The 16 year old requirement to receive a driver s licenseis a standard and common rule. All but a few states use this standard. The driving age should be 16 because accidents happen to everyone, 16 year olds should learn responsibility, 16 year olds are not the only immature humans, and 16 year olds have good mental development. Firstly, accidents happen to everyone. People believe that the reason younger teens are more likely to experience a car accident or wreck is that they have the least experience. That is not always the case. If the age is moved to 18, for example, 18 year olds are still just as inexperienced as the 16 year olds. Teens who have little practical experience of driving in the real world will be just as dangerous at any age. Until they have received practice, these drivers are potentially threatening. Driving is a skill that has to be learned. One must develop this skill through experience. Secondly, 16 year olds need to learn responsibility. By the time children are 16, they need to take on priorities for themselves such as personal transportation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The corporate veil becomes the dividing line between this entity and its shareholders. However, it soon became obvious that this concept can be easily abused, therefore Courts fought hard in order to establish exceptions to the Salomon principle in the form of lifting or piercing the veil, allowing them to look behind the curtain if they spot some irregularity. As described by Professor Gower, once the company is registered, the corporate veil comes down between the existing company and the shareholders, protecting them from any potential liability. Soon it became apparent that the companies could be easily abused and used for improper purposes. As a response to these developments, Court would use the concepts of lifting and piercing of the veil in order to go behind the veil and attach an appropriate liability to those who were behind it. Lifting of the veil was seen as the least drastic option, as the Court would look behind to see if there is some impropriety, and put the veil down, still recognising the company as a separate legal entity. Whereas piercing would involve tearing up the veil, completely disregarding company as a separate entity and looking at it as an agent for another. The process is very ad hoc, and therefore based on the discretion of the Courts. In order to persuade the Court to look behind the corporate veil, the grounds must be substantive. One of the established exceptions justified by the Court in order to lift the veil is when the evidence shows that the company is being used as a device for avoidance of existing obligations. • 27. Jim Hawkins Heroism Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in the light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 says, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV). This is a verse that talks about one of the components of a true heros character. Those that I mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others and their needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but generally they were heroic according to the Bible. Although none can come close to the perfect heroism of the Ultimate Hero, our Lord Jesus Christ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But they are truly incorrect in their perception because neither Jim nor Silver qualify as heroes when heroism as explained in the Bible is considered. Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver do not think about others before themselves, lead by serving, and are not humble. They may indeed have instances of good works, but that does not make them heroes. Furthermore, if good works do not stem from the Holy Spirit s doing in your heart and are coming from your own self righteousness, Isaiah 64:6 says, [...] all our righteous acts are like filthy rags [...] (NIV). Some may think that Silver sparing Jim s life and Jim cutting the anchorage and sailing the Hispaniola were heroic acts. But these acts were truly not coming from the heart of God s type of hero. Silver did not really care about Jim s life. I says to myself, you stand by Hawkins, John, and Hawkins ll stand by you. [...] You save your witness, and he ll save your neck! (127); Silver only wanted Jim as a witness for him in court back in England. Silver s motivation was pure selfishness. Likewise, Jim was prideful about how he sailed the Hispaniola to the North inlet after cutting its anchorage. I had nothing nearer my fancy than to get home to the stockade and boast of my achievements. (118); Jim just desired his shipmates to value him and wanted to be applauded as the good sailors hero. To begin with, George Bernard Shaw was an early and outspoken advocate for the rights of women, and as a playwright he created some of the most distinctive women characters of his day. He was deeply influenced in this aspect of his writing by Henrik Ibsen. This play deals with a lot many themes. To cite a few: Rewriting the tale of Cinderella and Sleeping beauty, Class, language and phonetics and Independence. From the very beginning of the play, we can see the unequal relationship between Mr. Higgins (the man) and Eliza (the woman). This difference can be seen by the parallelism between these two ... Women, how much ever is qualified, is better than the opposite genderwhen it comes to education, the opposite sex will always take her as a house maid or a person working under him. Eliza, in the climax scene vulnerably asks Higgins, why he made her a sophisticated Duchess if her never cared for her, and why did not he thought of the trouble it would make for her, on which Higgins shocking reply says: Would the world ever have been made if its makes had been afraid of making trouble? (Act V, 127) Making life means making troubles. He still finds faults with Eliza, you are an idiot I waste the treasures of my Miltonic mind by spreading them before you. Higgins thus suffers from intellectual snobbery. He belongs to the world of Shakespeare and Milton. All throughout the play, Higgins behave rude with Eliza. Sylvia Plath an American poet, novelist and short story writer in her life wrecked with trials and tribulations had experienced both sides of the coin. Even fifty two years after her doomful demise, she is celebrated for her immense contributions to English literature. The motifs, themes and symbols illustrated in her literary works portray disquieting remembrances, emotional turbulence, a stark sense of remoteness and an unheard voice to combat oppressions. Her autobiographical novel, the Bell Jar pertinently encompasses the protagonist s arduous journey as a delusional woman against the patriarchal society, symbolic of Plath s solitude and self mutilation. I felt very still and empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo. Her poem Daddy illustrated the mixed emotions she had towards her father, depicting an arch sentiment of betrayal. She used Jews and Nazis as metaphors for their shattered relationship. In the German tongue, in the Polish town, scraped flat by the roller of wars, wars, wars. But the name of the town is common. My Polack friend. Drawing from holocaust imagery again, Lady Lazarus is figurative of brutality, signifying Plath s suicidal attempts. Emphasizing on her body parts as separate from the whole; she pricked at the male dominant society s outlook for women as mere objects. This piece of literature throws light at Plath s yearning and obsession on the subject of death as she considered it to be an art. Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. While Plath viewed death as the hostile ultimatum and a coercing ending along with perceiving this natural phenomenon in the literal sense, Emily Dickinson, another established American poet known for gothic elements and dark imagery reflective of her seclusion from the society by choice, examined death as an idealistic magnetism with a pinch of mysticism. For Dickinson, death presented a two dimensional standpoint. It is what humans fear as well as long for their entire life. Various research and reports have shown in great detail beyond this paper s scope that inequalities in school funding does cause different outcomes for school children (Jackson, Johnson, Persico, (2015. Unequal funding leads to unequal education: from the start, schools have different resources and means to educate our children (Kozol, (1991). Other reports suggest that different funding will lead to different social outcomes later on in life (Hyman, (2013); Biddle Berliner, (2002). The fact is that schools in poorer neighborhoods all over the united states, funding are limited and they have poorer schools (Kozol, 1991). Schools in richer areas and especially in suburban white neighborhoods receive higher funding and they have better schools (Kozol, 1991). Some argue that school funding is not the problem and throwing money at the problem would not be the solution. This is somewhat contradictory because most well funded schools are predominantly white. The schools are well lit, classrooms are spacious, student to teacher ratio is smaller, labs are well equipped, hot lunches are plenty, and teachers are experienced and well paid (Kozol (1991); Jackson, Johnson, Persico, (2015). As he often does in the course, Creekmur doesn t give a simple, clear cut answer, but instead offers a paradox, that while sex is an aggressively private act, it is also a good that is consumed, in our magazines and on our televisions. This paradox ultimately sets the stage for the rest of this class, demonstrating how something as intimate as one s sexuality can come to reinforce popular conventions of normalcy and deviancy within society at large, and what this essay will attempt to address. Specifically, Winkler references groups like the Traditional Values Coalition, which to this day continue to lobby Congress and the National Institute of Health to cut funding to sex research (Winkler). When, Yeltsin took power after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russians were wary. This illegitimate view towards democracy was one of the reasons the resource curse had such a profound effect. Therefore, it is a borrowed term with its genesis in the early 15th century, from a Latinized form of Greek krisis turning point in a disease (Online Etymology Dictionary, n.d.). If a crisis cannot be defined in time (World Health Organization, n.d.) , then it is an event or a point in time of 0 days duration. The key difference between an emergency and a disaster lies in the resourcefulness of the organization or state and the need for external intervention. Since, a crisis moment is difficult to identify by focusing on the occurrence of the point in time; we should then divert our attention to significant shifts in resource needs as a basis for determining crisis points. • 48. Examples Of Personification In The Rime Of The Ancient... Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a poet depicting the adventures and experiences of a mariner sailing the seas. Throughout the poem, there a many literary devices that bring the tale to life and help the readers understand the turmoil that the mariner went through. Those devices include, but are not limited to, personification, metaphors, alliteration, and assonances. Without the use of these elements, the poem would not have been as effective. One of the most prominent literary devices that Coleridge uses in The Rime of the Ancient Marineris personification. On example of such personification would be in part one of the poem. Coleridge says: The sun came up upon the left, Out of the sea came he! And he shone bright, and on the right Went down into the sea (lines 25 28).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing this, Coleridge develops the sun into a character of the story and it gives the readers a more personal connection with it. It exemplifies its importance to both the mariner, and the story in entirety. Another example of personification can be either seen as a realistic idea, or a hallucination that the mariner views. Coleridge says The dead men stood together. All stood together on the deck. This quote can be seen as the dead men are literally waking up, or that the mariner is hallucinating from exhaustion and dehydration. Either way this quote gives a dead person, living actions which results in a very descriptive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Half Fitz Alternate Ending The sun cast its golden light through the leaves and the trees and onto the metal plating of the jeeps and tanks. In autumn it was typically Fitz s favorite time for sights. The leaves fell and the sun looked, to him, at their fullest. It was beautiful and as he stared it reminded him of his home in Virginia, but unfortunately home was far from where he was and the smoke from behind settled. His home was gone, yet the Autumn kept him steady. Fitz was reminded of his two daughters, but he would see them no more. He winced. Autumn had been a usually calming season, but he was at an unsteady alert staring ahead at the path. His thoughts were broken as one of his fellow privates, Half Pint , as they called him because of his height, tapped Fitz on the shoulder as he offered a cigarette. Fitz waved it away in silence because he didn t smoke. Ever. Half Pint shrugged, lit it, and continued conversation with his comrades. Fitz, as he was old, was wise enough to know that a single cigarette could not calm oneself, but damage them. He stared thinking of the times he came home on leave. He tried to smile, but found no joy. Fitz only stared into the lines of trees. He could muster no emotion, for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No shots fired from his weapon. • 50. Christian Medieval Medicine Research Paper Christian medieval medicine was most certainly painful, very perilous, and possibly pointless. For example, flagellation was quite common practice in Christian medieval Europe, as religion was very prevalent in practice to do with curing oneself. There were other such harmful but generally fruitless treatments, such as bloodletting (though in certain scenarios this could actually help with the illness). Along with this, there were also poisonous anaesthetics used. One such recipe contained useful things to make poison pass and to make the patient unconscious. However, this also contained hemlock, which is a poison that can be fatal. Christianity played a huge part in the medicine of Europe at that time (the reason flagellation was used), so prayer itself was also a common cure all, along with holy artefacts and other holy things. People were also not permitted to perform dissection on cadavers, making it difficult if not impossible for medicine to progress. This meant that it stayed ... This was due to the allowance of experimentation on cadavers, as well as them having access to the Greek and Roman books Europe also had access to (to test against). The medicine and approach to medicine was very scientific. They tested methodically against the books and resources they had to make their own, to make medicine less perilous and pointless. Most Islamic medicinal practice was still painful. Somewhat contrary to the fact that their approach was scientific and methodical, many people in the Islamic region used amulets to protect themselves from the evil eye and the genies they believed caused all sorts of ailment. Medicine was so ingrained in the culture, in a way so directly contrary to the way it was in Europe, that it is no surprise that it was less perilous and pointless (yet not necessarily less painful) than European medicine. • 51. China s One Child Policy China s population currently stands at 1.357 billion people. It is the most populous country in the world and it is only increasing. The Chinese government has spent more than 40 years trying to slow their population growth. They have done so through their controversial one child policy. There is no denying that China s one child policy changed the lives of Chinese citizens when it the Chinese Communist Party [CCP] in 1979 as a way of controlling population. Under Mao, the government encouraged families to have as many children as possible, believing that a strong nation grew out of a large population. By 1976, the population grew from 540 million people in 1949 to 940 million. The rapid increase in population stretched the resources that the CCP could provide to the people. The government believed that a population control policy was the only way they prevent the population from experiencing another dramatic increase in size . The CCP hoped that the policy would alleviate some of the social and economic pressure an increasing population created, and the policy has worked. According to data collected by the World Bank, China s birth rate has fallen from 2.63 in 1980 to 1.217 as of 2014, preventing an estimate two hundred to four hundred million births . For all its intended benefits, the one child policy has also brought many unintended consequences, both harmful and beneficial; and these consequences have disproportionately affect girl and women more than boys and men. • 52. Personification In The Pink Car In recent generations, typical looks or ideas have dominated fashion. People write about this topic through articles, newspapers, and papers. While models style and display the most recent styles, they also represent what women should look like. Not until very recently, people have realized that not all women look like models, unless they starved themselves or worse. In the poems, Fat is Not a Fairy Tale and The Pink Car , the authors convey their main message of the poem as the social aspect of the world and what they believe has the characteristics of the ideal person by using imagery and personification. Admiration for individuality, a common theme throughout The Pink Car , is constantly mentioned through the words of the Mark Halliday. Halliday personifies the cars in the poem as people; specifically focusing in on the pink car. He repeatedly describes the other cars in a jaundiced way; for example, he would characterize these cars as boisterous, rowdy, and big. However, he identifies the pink car as disparate, one who does not worry or care about other cars perspectives. The author wrote, Other cars might honk their horns to seem big // the pink car doesn t honk and doesn t worry (Halliday 25 26). Halliday symbolizes the car as pink because society commonly construes the color as feminist, sweet, playful, the color of love, flowers and romantic. His intention of this poem was to help one find peace within themselves. The author wanted the reader to see that pointing out one s flaws and blemishes cause people to become someone who is arrogant and too self confident by referring to the other cars who did not have the characteristics of the pink car. This poem definitely delineates what one wants to find in themselves, the satisfaction and happiness they eventually discover. The author characterizes the pink car with a certain type of satisfaction and pride which helps people look at themselves in a much more positive and confident way. He wanted people to read this poem, and have people realize that appearance does not define one s personality. He wanted people to grasp, that in a similar way, pink should not let society define what it is. In contrast to admiration described in the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
