The Importance Of Religious Holiday Observances In Schools
A religious holiday observance can be defined as: a worship service or ceremony of any kind,
religious holiday exhibits/displays, the enactment of a religious drama, wearing religious items, and
even the presentation of religious music and singing religious holiday hymns. Despite these guidelines
and intentions of administration, sectarian holiday observances during Christmas and Easter still tend
to take place in schools across the country. There can be multiple causes for this though. First of all,
many teachers may not know or understand the court decisions and how to apply them within their
classrooms. Clearly by these laws, you should not display religious symbols like the cross, however,
few people are aware of the fact that courts are also concerned with the timing, context, and grade
levels that are involved in these classroom programs. For example, if there is a grade wide holiday
music production that has a Christmas hymn, they might get questions like What song will be sung?
Where will it take place? What is the purpose of this within the curriculum? And what effect will
singing them have on the students as well as the audience? As an educator I have not really thought
about Christmas music as a whole in the classroom. I m sure that a music teacher is more aware of it,
but as a general teacher I wouldn t have even thought about playing Christmas music in the classroom
as being a controversial thing until now. That leads me into my next point that teachers may

Persuasive Essay On The Mountain Goat
I have been in existence for many, many years. I predate the oldest man alive, for as long as any living
being can remember my ridged body has stood tall, for longer than even I can recall. I have many
children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain
goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface,
while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming
prey, but they do have strategy. Strategy that is a must have for this species to survive and thrive,
strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend.
That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring
emotion into nature, believing predator and prey could get along or come to an understanding, the
childish ranting of a delusionist who took Disney films far too serious. The only understanding these
two have is that one will try to eat and the other survive, now let us watch through the eyes of the
hooved and clawed. My hoofs are sore, I ve been climbing all day as I do most days and I m
exhausted. I m not sure if I should stop here though, it s not very far up the mountain, a predator could
be around waiting for the moment I let my guard down but can I keep going? No ill find a corner to
take a quick nap to regain a little energy, as I lay down everything slowly becomes dark, will I

Gun Control Pros and Cons in the United States
The debate over gun control has been raging through the American political systems for years. On one
side, there is the National Rifle Association (NRA) and 2nd Amendment citing citizens who use their
firearms for hunting and self defense. On the other, there is Handgun Control Inc. (HCI) and followers
of the Brady Campaign who want to ban guns on the basis that they are dangerous. Both sides have
strong arguments, anchored in historical precedent and statistical analysis. Anti gun control lobbyists
arguments include the guarantee of the 2nd Amendment, the definition of militia as any adult male,
self defense, the relative uselessness of permits and regulations, and court cases in favor of firearm
possession. Pro gun control activists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time of the Bill of Rights ratification, the United States had only just broken free of the Articles
of Confederacy, a document intended to create a loose union with the individual states holding all the
power. In order to garner more support for the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment was added in to
protect the states rights to their own armed forces a right which is of little importance in the 21st
century. Because of the strength of these arguments, pro gun control advocates point to the historical
context in which the 2nd Amendment was written in order to justify stricter laws. Expanding upon the
wording in the 2nd Amendment, anti gun control proponents argue that the definition of militia is not
limited to an armed force under direct control of the state or federal government. Charles Heston,
president of the NRA, cites US Code Title 10, Section 311, stating that the recognized legal definition
of militia is that the militia is made up of two complementary bodies: the organized militia, which is
the National Guard; and the unorganized militia, which is every male citizen between ages 17 and 45
(Heston). Under this expanded definition of militia, every legal male of the accepted age has the right
to bear arms under United States law. Some gun rights advocates further expand this right to be

Obedience and Disobedience in A Few Good Man
In the heart of nation s capital, in a courthouse of the U.S government, one man will stop at nothing to
keep his honor, and one will stop at nothing to find the truth. This tagline helps to sum up the tone of
the film A Few Good Men. Two soldiers caught in the middle of right and wrong will keep there hope
and loyalty high as they wish for the best. Will the instigator of it all be pressured through his own
anger to reveal the truth? Rob Reiner presents Col. Nathan R. Jessep as having an exaggerated self
opinion while using his power for evil, based on dispositional factors. Lt. Daniel Kaffee uses his

The author exemplifies the ways that disobedience helps the society and its contribution to furthering
the human race but notes on the fact that blind obedience may eventually account for the end of
civilization. A private office meeting is ordered by Col. Jessep between him, Lt. Jonathan Kendrick,
and Lt. Col. Matthew Andrew Markinson to discuss the Santiago situation. After a few brief words
among the three, Jessep makes his authority known by ordering Kendrick to train Santiago, while
threatening to kill him if Santiago is not well prepared. With Markinson having noticeable doubts
about Jessep s command, the colonel orders a private meeting alone with Markinson. By starting the
conversation off soberly, Jessep asks Markinson what he thinks of Kendrick. Markinson replies by
saying his opinion does not account for much. Jessep then proceeds to explain his reasoning for
having Santiago stay on the base. With a self conceited tone, Jessep begins reminiscing on his and
Markinson s life together, and ends the conversation on a selfish note, saying that he had been more
successful than Markinson and that any feeling of tension and embarrassment had no importance to
him. Jessep shows his true malevolence in this scene, while directing it towards Markinson and
Kendrick. Milgram confers his opinion on the presence of authority when he says, The experimenter s

The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk...
Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The
United States
In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on
the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C
reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not
been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in
1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also
result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers,
and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three
thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information.
This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000
people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to
be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the
study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so
7,458 were examined.
The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients had
their blood pressure measured six times total (three in the home

The Government s Freedom Of Press
Since the Turkish state was founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1923, the press in Turkey has never
been free. The first government was ruled by the Atatürk s party, the Republican People s Party
(CHP), which claimed to be liberal and modernist; however, they made a law which could shut down
and /or censor any newspapers which they did not like. (Bulut, 2015). During the CHP era, 130
newspapers and magazines were banned. Although many parties names have changed throughout the
years, the ruling ideology has been the same. For instance, during the rule of Prime Minister Adnan
Menderes (1950 1960, Democrat Party), 161 newspapers were banned (Yılmaz, Doganer, 2007).
Unfortunately, today s freedom of press in Turkey has further worsened. At the end of 2011, 110,000
websites were shut down by the AKP government s attempts. (Depeli, 2012). Many journalists were
arrested, tortured and imprisoned. Most of the cases were associated with terrorism. According to the
BIA Media Monitoring Reports, 104 journalists and 30 distributors were imprisoned in 2012. Also 64
of the journalists were Kurdish as well as almost all distributors. (Depeli, 20112).
When Atatürk founded the Republic of Turkey, his ideology was to westernize the country through
changing the education and political systems. Even though the majority of the population of Turkey
supported the Kemalist (Atatürkist) ideology today and his modern world view , they never
acknowledge some of the genocides that happened

Kant s powerful reasoning for moral atrocities.
Kant explains his moral theory, the categorical imperative, in Grounding for the metaphysics of
Morals . In this paper i will argue that Kantian reasoning provides the most powerful understanding of
how to assess and navigate moral dilemmas concerning atrocities when compared to Utilitarianism. In
order to effectively do so, i will be using a case by Bernard Williams. The case by Williams in A
critique of Utilitarianism, is as followed. Jim is in a small South American town where he finds a band
of armed men holding twenty indians hostaged. Pedro, the man in charge, explains that because of
recent protest the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, i will provide an examination of what both utilitarianism and the categorical imperative
would do in this situation; beginning with utilitarianism. In Principles of Morals and Legislation
Jeremy Bentham outlines utilitarianism. The most important feature being the principle of utility,
Bentham believes that pleasure and pain governs all aspect of life, and one must do all they can to
reduce their pain and maximize their pleasure ( Bentham, 7) Bentham Develops the Felicific
calculator in order to quantitatively measure pain and pleasure in any given circumstance. To adhere to
this calculus, one ought to consider if the value of a pleasure or pain will be greater or less according
to: Intensity, duration, certainty, nearness, fecundity, purity, and extent (Bentham, 22). For an example,
in Williams case one must consider the pleasure and pain involved in their ability to be certain of the
outcomes of their actions. If one cannot be sure that they can trust Pedro s promise to let the nineteen
hostages go, then this should be considered in the calculations of the pleasures and pain of the
consequences of their actions. Consequentialism is another key aspect to utilitarianism. An action s
morality is dependent on outcomes only. One s intentions does not really matter. It becomes evidently
clear from running the felicific calculus, consulting the principles of utility and

Government Corruption In Mexico City
The Olympic games are a two weeklong tournament where the best athletes compete with solidarity
and fair play to develop humanism and respect among every nation. Host candidates are chosen by the
IOC (International Olympic Committee) according to specific demands and requirements.
Nevertheless, chosen cities are meant to promise their entire commitment and effort for investing in
infrastructure, public security, public health and tourism. Despite this optimism, the prevailing
concern is that the costs will increase for those living in the host nation, while the mayor benefits will
be for the IOC and all the multinational partners involved. For example, while Brazil spends billions
of dollars, the IOC is expected to earn billions too through sponsorship deals, owning TV rights and
many other income fees. While new stadiums and new luxury hotels are built, citizens living in the

Abstract
We are replicating J.R. Stroop s original experiment The Stroop Effect (Stroop, 1935). The aim of the
study was to understand how automatic processing interferes with attempts to attend to sensory
information. The independent variable of our experiment was the three conditions, the congruent
words, the incongruent words, and the colored squares, and the dependent variable was the time that it
took participants to state the ink color of the list of words in each condition. We used repeated
measures for the experiment in order to avoid influence of extraneous variables. The participants were
16 17 years of age from Garland High School. The participants will be timed on how long it takes
them to say the color of the squares and the color of the words. The research was conducted in the
Math Studies class. The participants were aged 16 17 and were students at Garland High School. The
results showed that participants took the most time with the incongruent words.

and everything that ever was involved with this animal. Whenever he saw a bird, he immediately
adored it. This helped him becoming a lot less self absorbed. Actually, he never saw this coming. He
was afraid of live and it s consequences. Even though he felt, that his love for birds was real, it gave
him small idea and motivation into learninghow life should be lived, how people should be loved, and
how any problems that may occur a long the road was no problem any longer.

The State Of New York s Budget Process
The State of New York s budget process involves six phases namely: The Call; The Executive Budget;
Public Hearings; Legislative Amendments; Enactment Phase; and Implementation Phase. The budget
process or cycle formally begins after the budget director issues the memorandum policy referred to as
The Call Letter to heads of agencies. The Call Letter marks the official commencement of the budget
process and starts at August and last through to October. As the early mid fall approaches, each agency
assembles a final program package and is then send to the Budgetary Division. By the time December
starts, the budgetary division normally has completed the preliminary commendations for both the
revenues and expenditures, and subsequently presents them to respective Governor Office (New York
State Government, n.d.). The second phase of the process starts in November through to January
referred to as The Executive Budget. In accordance to the preliminary commendations and the most up
to date economic atmosphere, the Governor along with his staff then prepares the actual executive
budget and by the closure of January, the executive budget is released to the next phase (New York
State Government, n.d.). The budget proposed by the Governor at this stage must be financially
balanced. The budgetary terms confirming the proposed budget are very indirect requiring the
Governor to classify all the expenditures he anticipated to be realized prior to the end of the
subsequent fiscal year.

Slave Trade In The Transatlantic Trade
At the time of the Triangular trade, Britain had enhanced its interests in the Americas, and the number
of African slaves was beginning to grow. This growing interest led to the Trans Atlantic business, in
the 16th century (Radburn, 2015). The south Atlantic together with the Caribbean regions were in
great need of labor to be able to produce commodity crops and making clothes and other goods which
they would be sold back to Europe. The demand for slaves in these regions saw the Portuguese
complete the first Trans Atlantic slave voyage to Brazil by the year 1526. Other European countries
soon followed. They joined the Portuguese in establishing slave posts and ports where captured slaves
were kept waiting to be shipped overseas. Portugal required laborers to work on their sugar plantations
in their new colony in Brazil. Subsequently, there was a need for additional labor in these new
territories. Paid laborers were very expensive to pay for, thus this makes African slaves as the only
solution to develop these new colonies with their free labor. The first shipment containing African
slaves to the Americas sailed across the Atlantic Ocean was in early 1500, dominated by the
Europeans, (mainly the Portuguese), the Arabs and African merchants.
In the 17th century, European countries were vying with each other s to create colonies overseas.

Inventions Of The United States
In the year 1790, the United States had begun to make a name for itself. The United States was ending

need for self reliance. The United States was out to prove its worth, that its institutions, democracy,
and military were worth the efforts of so many. During this time the number of inventions created
throughout the world was astonishing. Inventions like: the cotton gin, batteries, cupcakes, crackers,

Also to make sure credit was rightfully awarded to them. With that came the birth of the first patent.
The invention of the first patent has brought up many different questions like where does one go to get
a patent, who created it, how is one obtained, and what rights do they provide?
A patent is a legal document giving inventors the property right to their own invention. A patent didn t
always mean the rights to an invention though. A patent used to mean a special privilege or favor. It
also could be used to acquire more land or obtain rights to explore a new land. Presently the patent is
used only for the rights to your invention. Virginia Alexandrea from The United States Patent and
Trademark Office wrote the article General Information Concerning Patents where she described what
Patent rights include.
The right conferred by the patent grant is, in the language of the statute and of the grant itself, the right
to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling the invention in the United States or
importing the invention into the United States. What is granted is not the right to make, use, offer for
sale, sell or import, but the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling or
importing the invention. Once a patent is issued, the patentee must enforce the patent without aid of
the USPTO (ALEXANDRIA 1).

meters away from him. Trudeau said, There were other beams emanating from the craft as well; a
greenish phosphorescent color beam shone horizontally out the front (right); two beams at the back

Huckleberry Finn Frauds
Skeptical Frauds Establish the Morality of Huck The environment that a person places themselves in
greatly influences their personality and character. Huckleberry Finn, the main protagonist in Mark
Twain s work, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, clearly develops as a product of his surroundings.
Two characters that indirectly play a crucial part in the development of Huckleberry Finn are the duke
and the king whose fundamental objective in the novel is to help mature Huck into a respectable man.
The role of the king and the duke is to indirectly establish moral guidelines into Huckleberry through
their gimmicky shows, and the relentless control of Jim. They also demand the utmost respect of
royalty from Huck too. The unethical acts that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ethics Of Marketing And Advertising

Ethics Paper
What is marketing? Marketing, according to Investopedia, is The activities of a company associated
with buying and selling a product or service. It includes advertising, selling and delivering products to
people. In even simpler terms, it s how a company or business buys/sells a product, and the way in
which they do so. Marketing is aimed towards consumers, or us the buyers of these products, and the
best advertising will have us begging for the product they represent. Although there are marketing and
advertisements that are morally sound and ethical, we have to be weary of those that aren t.
As a well educated consumer, it is up to us to make sure we do adequate research to ensure these
advertisements we are being shown aren t pulling our tail. Companies who do risqué marketing
practices involving shady tactics, deceptive advertising, or biased targeted marketing towards age
groups who can easily be taken advantage of are all easily considered unethical and morally wrong.
Ethics, are the general principles of right and wrong. It is very important for businesses to have sound
ethic practices to ensure they avoid legal trouble and media backlash. Morals, on the other hand, are
what each individual find to be right and wrong, and their justifications and experiences that help them
decide between the two.
Moral idealism plays a big role into this as well because as a society we have formulated ideas that we
find morally right

Different Organisational Structures And Cultures
1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures.
Organisational structure
According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties
and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an
organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which
the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based
structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure.
Product based structure
In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out. Individuals
from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In addition, there
is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of structure can block
communication and cause a lack of target similarity.
The functional structure
Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by the
different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its area of
capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the Human
resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually, someone is
made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability. Functionality is also very
clear. On the other

Chris Mccandless Was Different From Other People. His Ideas
Chris McCandless was different from other people. His ideas were perceived as strange from the
outside eye. Was McCandless crazy or was he simply misunderstood? Everyone has their own opinion
on this question including Shaun Callarman. He believes Chris is just plain crazy, however there is no
hard evidence that proves this statement or completely backs it up. Callarman says I think that Chris
McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no
business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on ignorance.

This statement says that he is ignorant and yes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I do not believe that the plant McCandless ate right before death was the cause alone of his
demise, I do believe that his diet did play a role in this death. Obviously he died from starvation
because his body was not getting enough nutrients to turn into energy. He appears dangerously
malnourished weeks before ingesting the seeds that Krakauer claims killed him (Thayer). Whether it
was the seeds that killed him, the possible mold that Krakauer describes on pages 193 195, or just the
lack of nutrients and calories, he still made the mistake of ingesting too many wild potato seeds and
roots at one time without enough variety of foods. An examination of Chris s journal shows that he
went without food on many days and almost always had an extreme caloric deficit. His starvation
clearly began on April 28, not July 30 as Krakauer proposes (Thayer). This proves to be the most solid
explanation on Chris McCandless s death. Chris was not crazy because he starved or because he got
stuck in a place with limited access points. Bad luck and unthought through plans are what causes his
starvation and lead to his death.
Chris McCandless thought that he was prepared for his Alaskan odyssey. It turned out he was very ill
prepared which is what caused his death. He did not pack enough food because he compared the
amount of food he would need to his southern adventures. He also didn t have the

In the short story In A House Besieged by Lydia Davos, the entire story serves as a metaphor for the
fact that our language is not as complex and detailed our thoughts and emotions are, as well as how
terrifying that can really be. As is with this short story, although two people may hear, see, or feel
similar things, they may express them differently and both feel misunderstood and lonely. The woman
in the story tries to express her fear and confusion in terms of classical literature, such as the wind and
the rain . On the other hand, the man uses words that are much less poetic and that all include forceful
terms, such as hunters or armies . Perhaps the man in the story saw that the word besieged included

Understanding And Managing Recreational Fisheries Within A...
Fishing is often seen as a recreational escape from work or daily routines, as it also meets the basic
human needs of nutrition. In the report, Illustrating the critical role of human dimensions research for
understanding and managing recreational fisheries within a social ecological system framework, by
Hunt et al., we look more closely at the management of recreational fisheries in relation to the fishers
themselves, and how it may influence the outcomes of the fisheries ecological systems. In turn we see
critical connections between the ecological and social systems, which give us great feedback on a

natural and human components of the recreational fisheries system management. In terms of
recreational fishing, using human dimensions research provides information about a fisher s
preference, behavior, attitude and wellbeing when it comes to the support of fisheries management.
Taking an in depth study of the fisher s views and opinions on policy and management issues can
better illustrate how fishers make choices for pursuing fishing among sites that may differ greatly in
their regulations and many other attributes. Being able to understand a fisher s evaluations on a wide
scale will better help human dimensions researchers interpret and predict their future behaviors, which
has become an important area of enquiry. Before, human dimensions researchers studied a small scale
of fishers and did not account for diversity; the new studies being conducted do the exact opposite.
L.M. Hunt et al. look at the fisher s evaluations in a much broader aspect. By taking a deeper study
into understanding fishers and what prompts their actions will better allow human dimension
researchers and biologists to make connections between the fishers and fish, whereas they would
otherwise solely focus on the fisheries biology. The

Circuit Board Fabricators
CBF has hired you to help determine why they are not able to produce the 1,000 boards per day.
1. What type of process flow structure is CBF using?
The company is using a batch shop process flow structure. CBF, Inc. bases its board fabrication
process on the average job size or on its typical order. This means that the company proceeds with the
manufacturing process in batches so as to meet the specific requirements per order. The typical
contract that the company currently gets is 60 boards per order. However, due to persisting factory
defects, they manufacture a total of 75 boards per batch in order to compensate for 20% of the boards
that they typically reject during the process.

The circuit board fabrication comes to an end after the copper plating. The boards are subjected to a
final electrical test to check the integrity of the circuits. Another 5% of the boards are found to be
defective during this stage. Before the tests are done, a setup is needed. The capacity for final testing
is computed as follows.
Overall, there is an apparent disparity between the capacities of each of the operation processes. The
output from the different stages ranges from 900 to as much as 1,800 boards. It is seen that the
bottleneck in the whole manufacturing of circuit boards is in the part that has the lowest capacity, and
incidentally, located in the earliest part of the production process – the cleaning and coating
machines. This means that the maximum number of circuit boards that will be finished by the end of
the day is 900. From the finished boards, there is a historical defect rate of 20%, thereby leaving a
total of only 720 boards that are ready for packing and shipping to the customer. It is therefore
apparent that CBF is manufacturing very inefficiently, as they 280 circuit boards short of the required
output per shift of 1,000 units.
4. What is the impact of losses in the process in Inspection and Final Test?
It is said in the case that due to the losses in the system , CBF created a policy to increase the size of

III. Density of Homes
Understandably, some people enjoy large lawns. For every 1 home that is built on an acre property, 2
homes have to be built on ½ acre property. The homes will be built more northern and away from the
river. Towards the southern part of the river will only be green space and nature preserves. The city
will have a medium density
IV. Businesses/Industry/Commercial
Tourism will be the major money catcher on the lake and riverside areas. Tourists will be attracted to
the city s beauty and fun activities (see aesthetics). Although tourism brings in a lot of money, small
animal and vegetable farms will be maintained, providing the city with some of its food portion.
Gardens will also be kept at most of the homes. Not much food will be transported into the city. The
city will try to be the most independent possible. Building will use the solar heat method for water and
space heating on those rare occasions when necessary.

The On A Sleepy Mind And Sleepy Body
Introduction
There is a large difference between a sleepy mind and a sleepy body, but the combination is the
characteristics of a fatigued person. A fatigued person has behavior similar to that of drunkenness,
[under] the effects of a large dose of alcohol [1]. Many careers, which include high stress situations
and strict timelines, often deprive employees of a good rest due to their working environment. An
example of such would be the life of an Airline Pilot, where passenger safety, fast changing weather
and inconvenient schedules prevent the Pilot from receiving enough rest. In a British study done in
2014, 86.1% of Pilots reported that they commenced a shift while fatigued and reported feeling utterly
drained, very slow to think and process information [2]. Such conditions can cause a lack of
judgments and more mistakes occur, which in turn leads to accidents. Airlines and government
agencies have developed techniques and laws which aid the flight crew to operate while being well
rested, resulting in reduced errors. [enter purpose systems]
Causes and Sympoms A leading cause in fatigue in pilots is the long hours and times of commuting
between flights. Especially at the entry level flying positions, as a result of the low pay, pilots cannot
afford to live near major airports and are required to drive for a long period of time, which can further
aggravate exhaustion. Along with that, many airlines require their pilots to operate through bases
which are different

Themes In The Cathedral By Raymond Carver
The Cathedral by Raymond Carver is an eye opening short story which focuses on an unnamed
narrator who has a hard time interacting with the world around him, specifically his new visitor. The
narrator is the perfect example of an antihero as he is the central character, but does not exhibit heroic
attributes. In this first person narrative, the narrator speaks of when his wife s old friend, Robert,
comes to visit. After Robert s wife passes on, he stops by the narrator s house for a night while passing
through to visit his family. The theme of the The Cathedral focuses on how although one may be

how he exemplifies the themes of the short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the narrator continues this way throughout the story, his possessiveness does begin to halter as
he gets to know Robert on a more personal level. Once the climax of the short story arrives, the
narrator s possessive trait somewhat vanishes as he opens his eyes to the world around him. The
narrator is a character who is ignorant. Throughout the story, the narrator demonstrates his narrow
mindedness in many instances especially when it comes to Robert s blindness. Notably, the narrator
speaks of how his assumptions regarding blindness have been adapted from what he has seen within
movies. For much of the story, the narrator continually questions Robert s abilities due to his
blindness. From his choice to wear a beard to whether he will be able to eat his dinner on his own, the
narrator comments on Robert s choices. An example of this takes place when the narrator believes
Robert would not smoke due to his blindness. The narrator remembers, having read somewhere that
the blind didn t smoke because, as speculation had it, they couldn t see the smoke they exhaled. I
thought I knew that much and that much only about blind people. (Carver 107). To the narrator s
surprise, Robert does in fact smoke. The narrator s ignorance allowed for him to believe blindness
would truly affect this in the first place. Furthermore, the narrator s ignorance is also seen when he
questions what Robert was wearing explicitly his lack of dark glasses. While thinking on the topic, the

Haggai And Zechariah Research Paper
Haggai and Zechariah are complementary prophets of the postexilic period (HW 678). Haggai urged
the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual renewal
among God s people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered peoples who
were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the first group of
emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7 8, Thus says the Lord of hosts:
Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take
pleasure in it and be glorified , says the Lord (New King James Version). Haggai s messages from the

His task was to prepare the people for proper worship and temple service once the building project
was completed (HW 688). God instructed Zechariah in the words to motivate the people. Scripture
states in Zechariah 4:6, This is the word of the Lord:.... Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,
says the Lord of hosts . The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the temple will
be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same covenant violations
as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the people a solution to
their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God. God knew that only
spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the temple once it was finished
(HW 691). Zechariah s encouragement took many forms including a series of visions and repeated
reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah s visions reminded the people that God cared for
them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah s messages from the Lord were full of hope
confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant with them and was not going to forsake them.
The prophet Zechariah was the cheerleader for the completion of the temple that Haggai had the
people start to rebuild. Haggai got the physical building of the temple started while Zechariah was the

If it were not for vaccines, we would see increased cases for tetanus, influenza and botulism among
other diseases. The success of the tetanus vaccine in the army allowed for the success of the vaccine in
the general populace. Troops were administered the tetanus vaccine at the beginning of the war. Due
to its success, the government implemented vaccine programs across the country. During the 1920 s
and 1930 s between 26 and 55 people died from tetanus every year. After vaccine programs started in
the 1940 s, rates rapidly declined. Between 2000 and 2013, there were only 42 reported cases of
tetanus in Canada. More than half of those cases were in individuals over 60, where they might not
have gotten a booster shot, and no cases occurred in babies, which is the age when inoculation begins.
When war broke out for the second time, the fear of another influenza outbreak was at the forefront of
people s minds. Due to this, The US government put together vaccine development groups. These
groups created America s first flu vaccine and the FDA approved it in less than two years. Scientists
later discovered that they needed to modify the vaccine every year to match the strains of the virus
that were circulating at that time and the modifications are still done every year. The aforementioned
vaccine development programs created other vaccines for military use. The Allies created the

  • 4. The Importance Of Religious Holiday Observances In Schools A religious holiday observance can be defined as: a worship service or ceremony of any kind, religious holiday exhibits/displays, the enactment of a religious drama, wearing religious items, and even the presentation of religious music and singing religious holiday hymns. Despite these guidelines and intentions of administration, sectarian holiday observances during Christmas and Easter still tend to take place in schools across the country. There can be multiple causes for this though. First of all, many teachers may not know or understand the court decisions and how to apply them within their classrooms. Clearly by these laws, you should not display religious symbols like the cross, however, few people are aware of the fact that courts are also concerned with the timing, context, and grade levels that are involved in these classroom programs. For example, if there is a grade wide holiday music production that has a Christmas hymn, they might get questions like What song will be sung? Where will it take place? What is the purpose of this within the curriculum? And what effect will singing them have on the students as well as the audience? As an educator I have not really thought about Christmas music as a whole in the classroom. I m sure that a music teacher is more aware of it, but as a general teacher I wouldn t have even thought about playing Christmas music in the classroom as being a controversial thing until now. That leads me into my next point that teachers may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On The Mountain Goat I have been in existence for many, many years. I predate the oldest man alive, for as long as any living being can remember my ridged body has stood tall, for longer than even I can recall. I have many children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface, while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming prey, but they do have strategy. Strategy that is a must have for this species to survive and thrive, strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend. That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring emotion into nature, believing predator and prey could get along or come to an understanding, the childish ranting of a delusionist who took Disney films far too serious. The only understanding these two have is that one will try to eat and the other survive, now let us watch through the eyes of the hooved and clawed. My hoofs are sore, I ve been climbing all day as I do most days and I m exhausted. I m not sure if I should stop here though, it s not very far up the mountain, a predator could be around waiting for the moment I let my guard down but can I keep going? No ill find a corner to take a quick nap to regain a little energy, as I lay down everything slowly becomes dark, will I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gun Control Pros and Cons in the United States The debate over gun control has been raging through the American political systems for years. On one side, there is the National Rifle Association (NRA) and 2nd Amendment citing citizens who use their firearms for hunting and self defense. On the other, there is Handgun Control Inc. (HCI) and followers of the Brady Campaign who want to ban guns on the basis that they are dangerous. Both sides have strong arguments, anchored in historical precedent and statistical analysis. Anti gun control lobbyists arguments include the guarantee of the 2nd Amendment, the definition of militia as any adult male, self defense, the relative uselessness of permits and regulations, and court cases in favor of firearm possession. Pro gun control activists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the time of the Bill of Rights ratification, the United States had only just broken free of the Articles of Confederacy, a document intended to create a loose union with the individual states holding all the power. In order to garner more support for the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment was added in to protect the states rights to their own armed forces a right which is of little importance in the 21st century. Because of the strength of these arguments, pro gun control advocates point to the historical context in which the 2nd Amendment was written in order to justify stricter laws. Expanding upon the wording in the 2nd Amendment, anti gun control proponents argue that the definition of militia is not limited to an armed force under direct control of the state or federal government. Charles Heston, president of the NRA, cites US Code Title 10, Section 311, stating that the recognized legal definition of militia is that the militia is made up of two complementary bodies: the organized militia, which is the National Guard; and the unorganized militia, which is every male citizen between ages 17 and 45 (Heston). Under this expanded definition of militia, every legal male of the accepted age has the right to bear arms under United States law. Some gun rights advocates further expand this right to be ... After a few brief words among the three, Jessep makes his authority known by ordering Kendrick to train Santiago, while threatening to kill him if Santiago is not well prepared. With Markinson having noticeable doubts about Jessep s command, the colonel orders a private meeting alone with Markinson. By starting the conversation off soberly, Jessep asks Markinson what he thinks of Kendrick. Markinson replies by saying his opinion does not account for much. Jessep then proceeds to explain his reasoning for having Santiago stay on the base. With a self conceited tone, Jessep begins reminiscing on his and Markinson s life together, and ends the conversation on a selfish note, saying that he had been more successful than Markinson and that any feeling of tension and embarrassment had no importance to him. Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The United States In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined. The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Furthermore, i will provide an examination of what both utilitarianism and the categorical imperative would do in this situation; beginning with utilitarianism. In Principles of Morals and Legislation Jeremy Bentham outlines utilitarianism. The most important feature being the principle of utility, Bentham believes that pleasure and pain governs all aspect of life, and one must do all they can to reduce their pain and maximize their pleasure ( Bentham, 7) Bentham Develops the Felicific calculator in order to quantitatively measure pain and pleasure in any given circumstance. To adhere to this calculus, one ought to consider if the value of a pleasure or pain will be greater or less according to: Intensity, duration, certainty, nearness, fecundity, purity, and extent (Bentham, 22). For an example, in Williams case one must consider the pleasure and pain involved in their ability to be certain of the outcomes of their actions. If one cannot be sure that they can trust Pedro s promise to let the nineteen hostages go, then this should be considered in the calculations of the pleasures and pain of the consequences of their actions. Consequentialism is another key aspect to utilitarianism. An action s morality is dependent on outcomes only. One s intentions does not really matter. Organisational structure According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure. Product based structure In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out. Individuals from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In addition, there is some form of competition amongst the different sections. In turn we see critical connections between the ecological and social systems, which give us great feedback on a recreational fisher s actions and how we can better manage those actions. In the report they focus on the coupling of fisher s behaviors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These give the researchers better information in regards to the connections and feedback between the natural and human components of the recreational fisheries system management. In terms of recreational fishing, using human dimensions research provides information about a fisher s preference, behavior, attitude and wellbeing when it comes to the support of fisheries management. Taking an in depth study of the fisher s views and opinions on policy and management issues can better illustrate how fishers make choices for pursuing fishing among sites that may differ greatly in their regulations and many other attributes. Being able to understand a fisher s evaluations on a wide scale will better help human dimensions researchers interpret and predict their future behaviors, which has become an important area of enquiry. Before, human dimensions researchers studied a small scale of fishers and did not account for diversity; the new studies being conducted do the exact opposite. L.M. Hunt et al. look at the fisher s evaluations in a much broader aspect. By taking a deeper study into understanding fishers and what prompts their actions will better allow human dimension researchers and biologists to make connections between the fishers and fish, whereas they would otherwise solely focus on the fisheries biology. The company is using a batch shop process flow structure. CBF, Inc. bases its board fabrication process on the average job size or on its typical order. This means that the company proceeds with the manufacturing process in batches so as to meet the specific requirements per order. The typical contract that the company currently gets is 60 boards per order. However, due to persisting factory defects, they manufacture a total of 75 boards per batch in order to compensate for 20% of the boards that they typically reject during the process. 2. The boards are subjected to a final electrical test to check the integrity of the circuits. Another 5% of the boards are found to be defective during this stage. Before the tests are done, a setup is needed. The capacity for final testing is computed as follows. Overall, there is an apparent disparity between the capacities of each of the operation processes. The output from the different stages ranges from 900 to as much as 1,800 boards. It is seen that the bottleneck in the whole manufacturing of circuit boards is in the part that has the lowest capacity, and incidentally, located in the earliest part of the production process – the cleaning and coating machines. This means that the maximum number of circuit boards that will be finished by the end of the day is 900. From the finished boards, there is a historical defect rate of 20%, thereby leaving a total of only 720 boards that are ready for packing and shipping to the customer. It is therefore apparent that CBF is manufacturing very inefficiently, as they 280 circuit boards short of the required output per shift of 1,000 units. 4. What is the impact of losses in the process in Inspection and Final Test? It is said in the case that due to the losses in the system , CBF created a policy to increase the size of an order to give way to rejected boards. • 34. The On A Sleepy Mind And Sleepy Body Introduction There is a large difference between a sleepy mind and a sleepy body, but the combination is the characteristics of a fatigued person. A fatigued person has behavior similar to that of drunkenness, [under] the effects of a large dose of alcohol [1]. Many careers, which include high stress situations and strict timelines, often deprive employees of a good rest due to their working environment. An example of such would be the life of an Airline Pilot, where passenger safety, fast changing weather and inconvenient schedules prevent the Pilot from receiving enough rest. In a British study done in 2014, 86.1% of Pilots reported that they commenced a shift while fatigued and reported feeling utterly drained, very slow to think and process information [2]. Such conditions can cause a lack of judgments and more mistakes occur, which in turn leads to accidents. Airlines and government agencies have developed techniques and laws which aid the flight crew to operate while being well rested, resulting in reduced errors. [enter purpose systems] Causes and Sympoms A leading cause in fatigue in pilots is the long hours and times of commuting between flights. Especially at the entry level flying positions, as a result of the low pay, pilots cannot afford to live near major airports and are required to drive for a long period of time, which can further aggravate exhaustion. Along with that, many airlines require their pilots to operate through bases which are different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Themes In The Cathedral By Raymond Carver The Cathedral by Raymond Carver is an eye opening short story which focuses on an unnamed narrator who has a hard time interacting with the world around him, specifically his new visitor. The narrator is the perfect example of an antihero as he is the central character, but does not exhibit heroic attributes. In this first person narrative, the narrator speaks of when his wife s old friend, Robert, comes to visit. After Robert s wife passes on, he stops by the narrator s house for a night while passing through to visit his family. The theme of the The Cathedral focuses on how although one may be looking, they may not truly be seeing. Once the climax of the short story arrives, the narrator s possessive trait somewhat vanishes as he opens his eyes to the world around him. The narrator is a character who is ignorant. Throughout the story, the narrator demonstrates his narrow mindedness in many instances especially when it comes to Robert s blindness. Notably, the narrator speaks of how his assumptions regarding blindness have been adapted from what he has seen within movies. For much of the story, the narrator continually questions Robert s abilities due to his blindness. From his choice to wear a beard to whether he will be able to eat his dinner on his own, the narrator comments on Robert s choices. An example of this takes place when the narrator believes Robert would not smoke due to his blindness. The narrator remembers, having read somewhere that the blind didn t smoke because, as speculation had it, they couldn t see the smoke they exhaled. I thought I knew that much and that much only about blind people. (Carver 107). To the narrator s surprise, Robert does in fact smoke. The narrator s ignorance allowed for him to believe blindness would truly affect this in the first place. Furthermore, the narrator s ignorance is also seen when he questions what Robert was wearing explicitly his lack of dark glasses. While thinking on the topic, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Haggai urged the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God while Zechariah called for spiritual renewal among God s people. During the time of Haggai a decree was issued allowing conquered peoples who were deported by the Babylonians to return to their homelands. During this time the first group of emigrants returned to Jerusalem. Scripture states in Haggai 1:7 8, Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways! The Lord is showing the people that it is only through Him that the temple will be finished and ready for worship. At this time the people were guilty of the same covenant violations as the generation that was sent into exile. The Lord sent Zechariah to offer the people a solution to their problems of sin and rebellion by genuinely repenting and returning to God. God knew that only spiritual renewal could foster true worship and meaningful service in the temple once it was finished (HW 691). Zechariah s encouragement took many forms including a series of visions and repeated reference to the words of former prophets. Zechariah s visions reminded the people that God cared for them and all that they were struggling with. Zechariah s messages from the Lord were full of hope confirming that the Lord was continuing His covenant with them and was not going to forsake them. The success of the tetanus vaccine in the army allowed for the success of the vaccine in the general populace. Troops were administered the tetanus vaccine at the beginning of the war. Due to its success, the government implemented vaccine programs across the country. During the 1920 s and 1930 s between 26 and 55 people died from tetanus every year. After vaccine programs started in the 1940 s, rates rapidly declined. Between 2000 and 2013, there were only 42 reported cases of tetanus in Canada. More than half of those cases were in individuals over 60, where they might not have gotten a booster shot, and no cases occurred in babies, which is the age when inoculation begins. When war broke out for the second time, the fear of another influenza outbreak was at the forefront of people s minds. Due to this, The US government put together vaccine development groups. These groups created America s first flu vaccine and the FDA approved it in less than two years. Scientists later discovered that they needed to modify the vaccine every year to match the strains of the virus that were circulating at that time and the modifications are still done every year. The aforementioned vaccine development programs created other vaccines for military use. The Allies created the botulinum toxoid because they got false intelligence that the Axis powers had weaponized a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. The toxin is extremely potent and injecting two billionths of a gram, of its most powerful strain could kill a full grown adult.
