Radical Racial Movements
According to the Equal Justice Initiative, nearly 4,000 blacks were lynched in Jim Crow South
between the years of 1877 and 1950 (Mackaman). The Black community has continuously battled
segregation. Throughout the years there have been many radical movements all over the world to
end segregation. Strong leaders came out of these movements people banned together for a
common cause. While Segregation was a worldwide issue it seemed to be a lot worse in the
southern states. For example, North Carolinahas a large history of radical racial movements in the

How Technology Has Impacted The Political System
The acronym PERSIA denotes the categories Political, Economic, Religion, Social, Intellectual
and Aesthetic into an easy way of remembering one of many systematic models. These six
categories are used to organize and explain technology s effect and changes over a long period of
time. By categorizing a specific topic or idea, one may easily be able to understand the importance
that topic, idea and technology has impacted a person, culture, country, and even history. Thus,
providing a new outlook and perspective on history and the factors that contributed to the change in
history. Firstly, the PERSIA model breaks into the category, political. Political describes how
technology has impacted the political system. Throughout history, technology has caused
government, whether it be state and or federal government, to update its laws to accommodate and
regulate the use of said technology. Many technological advancements and inventions need to be
regulated or added to the law because it causes chaos and interruption and many of the times it
causes danger to society. The next category, economic, defines how technology influences the
financial market in society and not so much on individuals within society. Rather, it looks at the
economics of the society as a whole. By looking at how technology has impacted the economy at a
macro level, it is clearer to see how large corporations and big business are affected than the
individual consumer. Continuing on, technology effects

Golden State Warriors Team Analysis
It s no surprise that when a team starts to break records at a rapid pace, people start to wonder
whether they are the on of the best teams all time, if not the greatest. That s what the current
Golden State Warriors team is doing right now. People did not expect them to be playing at such
a high level after their historic year last year. They started off this year with a bang, behind
reigning MVP Stephen Curry, and they are yet to slow down. They are currently on pace to break
the single season record set by the Chicago Bulls in 1996 behind Michael Jordan, and this run is
starting people to debate whether this Warriors team is better than the Bulls team from 1996, who
are currently considered the greatest team of all time. Many different claims have been brought
up, such as the Bulls are better because they had Michael Jordan or the Warriors are better because
they have a deeper team. Those supporting the Warriors have agued that the records they are

enormous profit for their schools, and the players still do not receive any of it, except through

player must sign an N.C.A.A. student athlete form before ever becoming an official student athlete.
This form guarantees to the N.C.A.A. that their athletes have had the opportunity to read and

The Theme of Incest in The Duchess of Malfi Essay
One can begin the discussion on the theme of incest in The Duchess of Malfi by understanding the
social conception of incest . Talcott Parsons says it is not so much the prohibition of incest in its
negative aspect(maintaining sexual relations) ...(Instead) Incest is withdrawal from the obligation
to contribute to the formation and maintenance of supra familial bonds on which major economic,
political and religious functions of the society are dependent.
Ferdinand s incestuous behaviour towards the duchess follows the similar pattern pointed above
,i.e., Ferdinand s aim is not the achievement of sexual relations with his sister. One may like to

It is due to this threat from the outside that Ferdinand takes up the posture of an incestuous brother
obsessed with the blood and body of his sister, and going to the extent of surreptitiously entering her
room.
Ferdinand s intentions are thus to control the sexuality of his sister and thereby, making her the
vessel of his honour. Whigham here rightly notes that Ferdinand s incest turns itself into a paranoia
as he does not stand satisfied with the duchess marriage within an equal status group but denies her
any form of marriage, or rather, contamination through sexual indulgence. The vulgar extent to
which his abnormality works is best seen when he suggests Count Malateste to his sister as her
prospective husband .Working with the play on his name (mal testes),he hints at the fact that an
impotent husband would not contaminate his sister s blood.
But after Ferdinand gets to know that his sister has realized his fears and has contaminated
herself, his incestuous rage steps up a level. His speech then borders on necrophilia Have her meat
serv d up by bawds and ruffians [4.i.123].
Ferdinand s interest now shifts to the dead body of his sister.
From now on one also sees Ferdinand s paranoia turning itself into lycanthropia. This madness can
be read as a result of the clash between Ferdinand s

American Society And Ugandan Society
I stepped off the plane and the smell of burning trash immediately flooded my nostrils. The
pungent smell permeated the air. Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of
organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more
calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new
culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American
society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents
generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda
, the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects
of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European
countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century
trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common
themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the
Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be
trusted in society. The torn society of Uganda has been affected by years, even decades, of war
and militarized occupation. They face a corrupt government, broken economy, and execrable
poverty. Military occupation of land is a powerful tool

John Stuart Mill And Aristotle
John Stuart Mill and Aristotle both address the idea of happiness as the goal of human life. They
explain that all human action is at the foundation of their moral theories. Mill addresses the
Greatest Happiness Principle, which is the greatest amount of pleasure to the least amount of pain.
Similarly, Aristotle addresses happinessthrough the idea of eudaimoniaand human flourishing.
According to Aristotle, eudaimonia is happiness, it is the state of contemplation that individuals are
in when they have reached actualized happiness. Also referred to as happiness or human
flourishing, it is the ultimate goal of human beings. Happiness is living well and acting well. He
explains that once general happiness becomes recognized as the moral standard, natural sentiment
will nurture feelings that promote utilitarianism. According to Aristotle, happiness is a state of
being. Both Mill and Aristotle agree that in order to attain true happiness, human beings must
engage in activities that are distinct to humans and that make them happy. Aristotle s idea of
eudaimonia and human flourishing is a more compelling argument than Mill s for happiness and
the final end because Aristotle explains that the virtues bring human beings to happiness.
Aristotle believes that happiness is an activity in accord with virtue. Happiness is in accord with
the most excellent virtue. All men agreed that happiness is to live well , but Aristotle expands this

The Confederate Wins and Losses
On April 12,1865 Confederate warships bombed the union at Fort Sumter in South Carolina and
this marked the beginning of one of the worst and deadliest wars fought in the world. It was a
war that only lasted around four years but yet took 620,000 of our brothers, sisters, and children
with it. Families were torn apart, sons had lost their fathers, mothers lost their sons, and whole
towns lost every man they had to give. A war that we fought on our land, a war that made brother

large enough to truly be called a battle. Of those nine battles three were won by the Confederates
and two were inconclusive. At the first battle of Bull Run, the Union still believed that this is going

Caged Bird Analysis
The role of voices in text is to give meaning and to highlight the composer s attitudes and beliefs.
Maya Angelou s politically complex voice in Caged Bird explores her belief in the human rights
for equality, and the freedom for every individual regardless of race or creed. Paradoxically
Bruce Dawe s satirical and judgmental voice in Enter without so much knocking (Knock)
conveys his criticisms of society s shallow meaningless life. Caged Bird by Angelou makes the
audience reconsider the real conditions of the free bird and the caged bird . This contrast
between the birds throughout the poem enables her to explore the issues of freedom and isolation
in African American society. Angelou utilises various literary devices and techniques such as
repetition, irony and imagery to convey her attitudes and beliefs about the beauty of freedom.
Repetition is used when the poem repeats the third stanza at the end of the poem to further
emphasis freedom, this reflects the two birds that are different. for the caged bird sings of
freedom is the last line of stanza three conveying an important message to the readers, that the
caged bird wants to be free. This allows the reader to conclude that every individual should be
aware and thankful for the freedom in their society. Although less direct in conveying Angelou s
attitudes and beliefs, she adequately utilises irony to enable us to further appreciate freedom. The
caged bird sings with a fearful trill evokes sympathy for

Archetypes In The Rising Essay
Bruce Springsteen s song The Rising is a requiem to those who lost their lives on 9/11 trying to save
others. He uses images, archetypes, and phrases with literal and figurative meanings to honor the
personal virtues of first responders, console the mourners, and provide inspiration and hope to the
country. Springsteen includes archetypes to alter the tone throughout the song. The firefighter
made his way through the darkness , where he [Couldn t] see nothin in front of [him] and [Couldn

By putting this into the song, it unifies and helps console people because they know others are

many obituaries of people who died on 9/11 that mentioned they were fans of his. After riding
down the street a few days after 9/11, someone rolled the window down and yelled to Springsteen
We need you now! This motivated Springsteen to release his album, named after the title song,
The Rising . Springsteen urged the firefighter to come on up for the rising into the afterlife, and at
the same time invited the country to rise up, unify, and transcend the tragedy of 9/11. Unlike
other songs that came out after 9/11 which called for revenge, he gave the depressed and

Punishment and Sentencing Paper
Punishment and Sentencing Paper
CJA/224
Garrett LeGrange
September 17, 2010
There are many different philosophies that are in use in the court systems when determining what
sort of punishment will be imposed on someone who is found guilty of committing a crime. These
philosophies are in use in both the adult courts and juvenile courts. The juvenile court system is
similar to the adult courts, but there are many differences between the two. Both court systems try
and keep crime from happening and both courts sentence those found guilty to some sort of
punishment through the punishment philosophy that the court determines is a suitable approach
for preventing future crime. Deterrence is the first punishment philosophy. Deterrence is ... Show

This philosophy s thought is that the victim of a crime is part of the sentencing process. This means
that persons found guilty of committing crimes must compensate the victim of their crime.
Restoration is the attempt to make the victims of crimes whole again. This philosophy makes the
attempt to make someone guilty of a crime actually pay for their crime to the victim. The juvenile
court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in
adult courts. In the juvenile system, rehabilitation is the most used philosophy so that the children
in the courts may have the opportunity to live a life outside of prison. Adult courts do try and
rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation
is combined with incarceration. Adult courts also differ from juvenile courts because in adult courts
there is a presentation of evidence to try and determine guilt. Juvenile courts on the other hand
examine the actions of a juvenile and try and determine how to rehabilitate the individual. The
sanctions that serve as a guide for judges are probably one of the most important tools that can be
used in courts. Adult and juvenile courts can both use sanctions to their advantage. When sanctions
are used properly, they can be a very good deterrent for those thinking about committing a crime.
These sanctions can be many different things assigned to crimes to help and deter

Patriarchy In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Society has always valued men more than women. This is seen in the novel Their Eyes Were

which is also fueled by racism. She struggles to overcome patriarchy in the midst of degrading

Difference Between Teaching And Teaching Styles
Even the smartest students have certain classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they
try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look
identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This
basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teachingmethod,
some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This
difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference
in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students
performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several

Theories Of Progressive Education
Progressive Learning Theory in the US
Sarah Cooper Rashaell Keating
John Dewey s Progressive Learning Theory is defined as any various reformist educational
philosophies and methodologies since the late 1800s, applied especially to elementary schools, that
reject the rote recitation and strict discipline of traditional, single classroom teaching, favoring
instead more stimulation of the individual pupil as well as group discussion, more informality in
the classroom, a broader curriculum, and use of laboratories, gymnasiums, etc. in the school. It is
essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as,
Progressive Education.
Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and
educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the
importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child
learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi
(1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct
manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated.
Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of
pedagogy as an academic discipline. According to Herbart, abilities were not innate but could be
instilled, so a thorough education could provide the framework for moral and

Smart Technology And Student Learning
11. I used many different resources, including technology, to enhance student learning. This was
done through Smart technology allowing my students to go on a virtual fieldtrip. They were able to
learn more about the three environments and the types of animals that live in those environments.
12. During this lesson today, my students exhibited behaviors that showed me they were engaged.
They listened to the expectations well and did exactly what I requested of them to do. They were
actively listening and participating during the station time.
13.I was able to see that the students were focusing, responding, asking questions, volunteering, etc.
throughout the lesson. I also gave formative assessments throughout the lesson as well as a final
assessment. One example of a student s response would be when my students were participating in
small group discussions with peers. I went to the station this student was at and asked the student
how they knew what animals belonged in the desert environment. This student was able to
articulate a response to me which demonstrated learning. Additionally, I did interviews with the
students as a formative assessment. The final assessment took place when the students participated
in the SmartBoard matching activity at the end of the lesson.
14. There were different ways I planned and managed my time and routines such as transitions and
pacing so that instructional time was maximized. First of all, my class is familiar with transitioning

My Ethical Qualms With The Toilet
Initial interest and topic expansion
This paper started as a way to talk about my ethical qualms with the toilet and see if there was a
scientific basis to back them up. More than a history or philosophy of how the modern toilet came
to be, I wanted to see if there is scientific evidence to back up my idea of toilets and the modern
sewage treatment systems as wasteful. In order to understand the wastefulness, or efficiency, of the
toilet however, I had to answer the question, what happens when we flush? This may not be the
most interesting or sexiest information about waste, but it is an important look into a part of the
waste stream we contribute to daily, in fact, according to the American Water Works Association, an
average of five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Modern sewage formed in response to the 1858 Great Stink of London. The Great Stink was a
product of many factors. The introduction of flush toilets replacing previously popular chamber
pots increased water and waste volume into cesspits. Additionally, these cesspits, once only used for
excess rainwater collection, began to carry waste from slaughterhouses and factories, contaminating
the city before its ultimate departure into the River Thames, which began to overflow with sewage
along with its tributaries. All of this combined with an unusually hot summer encouraged bacterial
growth, a rancid odor, and contributed to a cholera outbreak. In response, London build thousands
of miles of underground pipe and created the modern sewage treatment system [2].
Two categories of sewage treatment
Sewage treatment can be broken into two categories storm sewers and sanitary sewers [3].
Storm sewers
Storm sewers drain excess rain and groundwater from manmade infrastructure like roads and
parking lots, get less treatment or sometimes none at all. Sometimes it may be processed to remove
stuff like car oil [3].
Sanitary sewers
Sanitary sewers are processed to clean up human waste. Although there are many methods of
dealing with human waste, the generally accepted method in North America consists of a three
stage sewage treatment system. In this essay I will look at this three step method system as well

Immanuel Kant On Free Will
Do humans truly have free will or are their lives completely predetermined? This question of free
will has and will always remain to be a place for argument in philosophy. Many of the great
philosophers attempted to answer this question, but none did as well of a job as Immanuel Kant.
He lays the basis of his argument in his Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics. Kant writes this
prolegomena in response to David Hume s of skepticism, and therefore, Kant is attempting to more
firmly ground metaphysics. In the introduction Kant says, I openly confess my recollection of
David Hume was the very thing which many years ago first interrupted my dogmatic slumber and
gave my investigations in the field of speculative philosophya quite new... Show more content on

When broken down Kant is appealing to both his thesis and his antithesis; he is agreeing with
both. Kant agrees that humans are beings of nature and therefore they follow the rules of nature,
but he also is accepting his thesis by saying that they are free. But in the former case reason is the
cause of these laws of nature, and therefore free; in the latter, the effects follow according to mere
natural laws of sensibility (Prolegomena). Instead of rejecting the laws of nature and saying that
humans are free of all ties, he is agreeing that certain things do govern the way in which humans
act. Furthermore, he suggest that Freedom is therefore no hindrance to natural law in appearances:
neither does this law abrogate the freedom of the practical use of reason, which is connected with
things in themselves, as determining grounds (Prolegomena). Regardless of natural law humans are
free and neither one interferes with the other. His prolegomena is not the only work where Kant
addresses free will. In his work, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant suggests that
morality is based on the concept of freedom. He states, A rational being must always regard
himself as law giving in a realm of ends that is possibly only through the freedom of the will, and
this holds whether he belongs to the realm as a member or as sovereign (Groundwork). Therefore
mankind must

Kant vs Aristotle
The Platonic Rationalist and Aristotelian Empirical Way of Thinking
Philosophical Inquiry
Section ON22
Erich Grunder
Jim Cook
3/2/2007
During the 17th and 18th century two philosophers, Plato and Aristotle, arose carving for
themselves a trench in the philosophical world. We can see the biggest distinction between the two
in their theories of how we know things exist. The traditions of Plato and Aristotle have been
dubbed rationalism and empiricism respectively. Under these traditions many well known
philosophers have formed their own theories of God, existence and the material world. Through
these individual theories I will show how each fits into the category of either Rationalist or
Imperialist. The Plutonian philosophers to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted to figure out how they functioned together. Spinoza accepted Descartes mathematical
model for deducing knowledge. He defends, outside the intellect; there is nothing but substance and
its modes or affections. Spinoza establishes the Fact and manner of [a] divine causality through
careful mathematical deduction. Consequently, God s essence exists through His own active power
and necessity. For this Spinoza was considered an atheist (Collins, 1967, p.83).
Lastly Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was an educated mathematician, scientist, historian, diplomat,
theologian and philosopher. He had the same dream as Spinoza and Descartes, that is, hope for a
systematic organization of all conceivable knowledge. In order to achieve this dream he required
first, to perfect a universal scientific language that would reduce all thoughts to mathematical
symbols. Second, he succeeded in developing one of the first forms of calculus. With this reasoning
tool Leibniz hoped to bring all thought under the reign of symbolic logic (Rogers Baird, 1981, p.
70).
By the 18th century in Great Britain a new philosophical movement was growing. The
observational and experimental was coming into focus. The interest of philosophers in the 18th
century shifted from rationalism and deductive, to Empirical and inductive. A philosophywas
sought that could conclude knowledge through since experience alone. The philosophers to do this
were Rationalist Locke, Berkeley and Hume.

Conflict Between Interpersonal, Intra Groups And Intra...
In the contention of viewing conflict as whether undesirable phenomenon or not, it has been widely
accepted that the presence of conflict in the workplace is inevitable. According to Rahim (2002, p.
207), conflict could be define as an interactive process manifested in incompatibility, disagreement,
or dissonance within or between social entities. As this conflictoccurs in the workplace, the
existence of conflict is not only limited between people in an organisation, but it is also occurred
between organisations, where it involves employees, employers, managers, units or departments.
While several research focused to identify the source and analyse the amount of conflict at
interpersonal, intra group and intra group levels, the others also examine the various styles of
managing conflict in the workplace. However, workplace conflict could be caused by different
influencing factors, which have been addressed into several main themes by conflict management
scholars. In carrying out the studies, many of them differentiated workplace conflict into two types.
First, affective conflict or relationship conflict or emotional conflict which usually engage
incompatible feelings and emotions; and second, task conflict or substantive conflict or cognitive
conflict which usually emerge disagreements on job content issues (Riaz Junaid 2011). Examining
influencing factors that causes these types of conflict and determining the style to effectively
manage the conflict are considerably

Superstition On The Face Of Logic By Dr. Mortimer
Theme The most prevalent theme of this book is superstition in the face of logic. Throughout the
novel the logician, Sherlock Holmes, is faced with something quite the opposite of logic: a
supernatural hound. The reader can see in many places that the supernatural beliefs of the
townsfolk and neighbours of the Hall swayed the reasoning of those trying to unravel the layers
of mystery surrounding the investigation. This intersection of rational thought and irrational
belief is first presented by Dr. Mortimer at the beginning of the novel. Dr. Mortimer introduction
as a man of science sets a tone of intellectuality; Holmes and Mortimer make small talk of his
medical practice, Holmes deductions, and the intricacies of Holmes skull structure. This is
immediately skewed by the telling of the legend of the hound. The reading of this unworldly myth
promptly makes the atmosphere eerie and mystical. These two undercurrents mix together for the
first time in this scene, when Mortimer makes it clear he believes the supernatural explanation
for the crime committed. Another clear indicator of the theme appears in evidence of the hound.
There are several indicators throughout the novel that the there is a real dog in play. However,
instead of being interpreted as evidence of a real dog, they are dismissed as superstition or
insignificant by most; it is these pieces of evidence that Holmes uses to determine that the dog is
of the corporeal world. The first piece of evidence set

Introduction
I have been asked to write this recommendation for Robert who is looking to invest his money of
$20,000 into either Spark NZ Ltd or Ryman Healthcare Ltd. Robert is interested in his money
being invested as he is focused on the potential growth which could occur over a period of time.
Formed in 1987 Spark NZ Ltd (SPK) is a telecommunication company who provide a range of
services not only specializing in mobile networks but broadband, and smartphones. Listed on the
stock exchange firstly in 1991 as Telecom (TEL), in 2011 Chorus was split from this company

Also steadily increasing is the ROE ratio, this high ratio indicates a good conversion of the owner s
contributions to profit. Ryman HealthCare s probability graph has a trend of increasing at a fast
rate (See Figure 2), this is shown predominantly by total revenue which has the largest growing
slope, followed by EBITDA and NPAT. The broker Deutsche Bank have said to hold the shares in
Ryman HealthCare while Forsyth Barr has said to buy the shares in this business. (RYMAN
HEALTHCARE LIMITED RYM (ORDINARY SHARES), 2017)
Through the analysis of Spark NZ Ltd and Ryman HealthCare Ltd, Ryman HealthCare has an
increasing trend of both ratios, unlike Spark which has both positive and negative aspects to the
ratios. Due to Ryman HealthCare having continued growth in profitability and an upward trend in
the graph, with the broker s recommendation of buying shares, Ryman HealthCare has favorable
profitability.
Liqudity1
Are liquid assets available to these businesses? Liquidity is important to assess in a business due
to ratios assessing how well the business can meet its short term commitments or claims when they
are due (Atrill, McLaney, Harvey, 2015, p. 265). An analysis of Sparks liquidity has shown that
both the current ratio and acid test ratio have increased from 2015 to 2016

Skecthing Gustave Calliebotte s Paris Street; Rainy Day
I can smell the rain on my jacket as my fingers numbly make their way across the pad, trying
their best to capture an instant in time on a piece of yellow, college ruled, notebook paper,
despite my now apparent lack of artistic ability. As I am watching the scene unfold, I hardly notice
the people walking around me, gazing at the same thing I am, before they move on. Cuddling
under an umbrella, a man and his wife are casually strolling through the light fog. Their attention is
caught by something off to their right, so he does not notice when his top hat is almost bumped to
one side by the umbrella as another pedestrian tries to pass on the narrow sidewalk. Further off in

The buildings are just far enough away and draped in a delicate fog that their details remain slightly
imperceptible. But in retrospect, this entire painting lacks any distinct quality, yet possesses a
magical ability to draw one into the scene and envelope them in the mystery and serenity of that
Parisian evening.
I am certain that while I was sketching the work, I became an obstacle for many of the other patrons
of the Art Institute, which is one of the reasons I sat down. But from this vantage point I had the
opportunity to marvel at the grand scope of this composition. Gustave Calliebotte s Paris Street;
Rainy Day has the peculiar ability to exist in duality. Standing close to the canvas, I could feel
myself pulled into the scene that took place over 120 years ago. I could feel the dampness in my
hair and smell the rain on my clothes, although I must attribute at least part of that to the rainy
Chicago weather I encountered before entering the museum. From a closer perspective, the life size
characters effectively contribute to the realism of the piece. The immense size of the painting itself
helps to incorporate the viewer into the scene. Being close, it feels as though this Parisian
intersection could wrap around you, and standing there I would not be terribly surprised if I turned
around to see nothing but the rest of the street, continuing through the brick laden

Apollonian Vs Dionyysian Research Paper
Apollonian vs. Dionysian (Friedrich Nietzsche) What is the difference between Apollonian and
Dionysian? The name Apollonian came from the Greek God Apollo, meaning good or obedient.
Dionysian came from the Greek God Dionysus, meaning more dark or sensual. He used the
names Apollonian and Dionysian for the two forces because Apollo, as the sun god, represents
light, clarity, and form, whereas Dionysus, as the wine god, represents drunkenness and ecstasy.
(Leeming) People use these terms to describe different things. One main thing they are used for
is to compare between people. If a person is more Apollonian they are more likely to follow the
rules and do what is right. If a person is more Dionysian they are more likely to do whatever they...

There are several reasons that rap music is considered Dionysian. One reason is because the
lyrics have some dark meanings. For example, death, drugs and sex are some main topics in rap
music. Another reason rap music is considered Dionysian is because most rap artist use
offensive language in their music. Rap music is most commonly popular among the youth. This
is because young teens are much more Dionysian than adults. The scholarly dialectic is directly
opposed to the concept of the Dionysian because it only seeks to negate life; it uses reason to

Speech On Child Soldiers
Imagine you are in Syria, you are in a military base, drugged and there is a gun pointed to your
head. This is what child soldiers face every day. The issue of children being soldiers has dated
back to World War 1, when 250,000 children under 18 in Great Britain enlisted to fight. Today,
there are 300,000 child soldiers around the world, fighting grown men with more experience,
and many are dying. The big issue with children being soldiers is the fact that they re being
intoxicated with harmful drugs and alcohol, their minds aren t fully developed to make
educated decisions, and these children are becoming soldiers against their will. On top of all of
this, the child soldiers and their commanders are committing war crimes. Examples of war
crimes are willful killing, causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health, and torture
or inhumane treatment. In some parts of the world, people think children being soldiers is okay,
but it really isn t. Even though some children commit war crimes on purpose, most do not;
therefore, should be granted amnesty. The first reason why child soldiers should be given
amnesty is because they are being fed harmful drug concoctions to make them better killers and
their minds aren t developed enough to make good decisions. According to an interview of a

The expression the world s a stage truly does hold up in today s modernized society. Theatre is a

The Modified Delone Mclean Model
The modified Delone McLean model includes user satisfaction (Wang Liao, 2008). The user
satisfaction is influenced by the system, information, and service quality. Increases in quality tend
to increase the user satisfaction. The user satisfaction also has an influence on the intention to use
the system. Furthermore, the modified model adds user technical capabilities as an aspect related
to user satisfaction. Individuals who have greater technical capabilities are more likely to be
satisfied with well designed systems (Petter, DeLone McLean, 2013).
It should be noted that there are interactions between use, user satisfaction, and intention to use the
system (Kavanagh Thite, 2009). Intentions to use the system often lead to use. The use can lead to
higher levels of user satisfaction and further increased intentions to use the system. The reverse is
true as well. If there is a low level of user satisfaction, then the intention to use the system will
decrease. The use and user satisfaction relate directly to the net benefits. If the use of the system
leads to significant benefits, then the net benefits will lead to increases in user satisfaction and
intention to use the system. In other words, if individuals begin using that system and find that it
has a number of net benefits, they are likely to be satisfied and plan to use the system more
frequently in the future (Wang Liao, 2008).

Hinduism was brought to India by nomadic people thousands of years ago and is a polytheistic
system with various gods and goddesses as well as lesser deities. Hinduism is related to Buddhism
because many early ideas found in Hinduism influenced the Buddhist teachings. Founded in the
fifth century by Gautama Siddhartha Buddha, Buddhism took on numerous forms as a religion all
over Asia and is known as a philosophical religious system. Buddhists make offerings to various
buddhas and do not always worship them as god. Buddhism tries to help individuals overcome the

Principles categorized under yin are femaleness, the moon, completion, cold, darkness, material
forms, and submission. Each principle produces the other, the creation occurs under yang and the
completion of the created thing occurs under yin. All changed in the universe are accomplished and
explained by yin and yang.
3.Articulate how principles of Taoism serve as the foundation of the art of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is an art of divination and a method of influencing our destiny. The principles of
Taoism serve as the foundation of the art of Feng Shui. Taoism is run by a single principle, the
Tao, however, the Tao is divided into two opposite principles, the ying and yang. Based on this
knowledge, Feng Shui relies on the ability to understand the Tao and find the balance of ying and
yang. Taoism believes that yin, yang and the five agents, wood, fire, metal, water and earth, explain
all events within the universe. Thus, the art of Fend Shui was developed based on the values of
Taoism.
4.Explain the idea of analytic philosophy in contrast with other schools of philosophy.
Analytic philosophy was created as a distinct school of philosophical. In contrast, other schools of
philosophy focus mainly on detailed analysis and examination of philosophical aspects in society.

Argumentative Essay On Role Playing Games
Kids all across America play role playing games that involve shooting each other with water guns
which sounds harmless and innocent but some people think different. A select hand of people
think that kids and teenagers playing role playing games are violent and could lead the kids into
a troubled future, but they really are just harmless. The reasons for why role playing games like
senior assassin are harless are that it isn t real killing, it doesn t involve real guns, no one gets hurt,
and that it is usually set up by the school that all of the students attend. But on the other hand the
people that think that it is violent have no real evidence and only say things like someone could get
hurt, but from what the water, and they also say that it involves weapons but that really doesn t
mean anything.
The evidence for why it is harmless is because there has never been a death or killing from playing
those harmless games because there is nothing wrong with them. Others say that the game is very
dangerous but there is no evidence for that, the only thing that they say is that it simulates violence
but there is really nothing violent about it, besides that the game is just fun. A quote from an article
called Violent video games may stop crimeby keeping criminals busy playing violent video
games and in that it says violent video games may have directly contributed to the decrease in real
world violence. That quote really means a lot because it is saying that there is

Psycho And A Game Of Thrones
Psycho and A Game of Thrones are both texts that cause the audience to reflect on today s society s
ethical view. Compare how do both authors portray this idea throughout each text?
Alfred Hitchcock in the film Psycho and George R. R. Martin in the novel A Game of Thrones both
use different techniques and methods to portray their ideas and values, reflecting on ethical views
of today society. Both the authors have controversially impacted today s society with their work and
have embed these different techniques within to ensure the audience gains awareness of the
importance of obtaining robust moral values and upholding them throughout life.

Therefore, Martin and Hitchcock both use the technique of irony to portray the ethics and
significance of those who abandon their moral values and beliefs. The novel A Game of
Thrones, is set in a harsh unforgiving world and many characters find themselves struggling as
they are faced with hard truths. Martin portrays the protagonist Eddard Stark to be a man of
honour and respect with high ethical values, this is shown through many other characters
opinions such as Jon, Jon tells Eddard You wear your honour like a suit of armour... when
explaining the oath is a social bond that needs to be respected and upheld. Eddard is seen to be
well respected, loved and envied throughout the village by his fellow neighbours. But Martin
ironically makes Eddard s turn of events to be a moment of corrupt actions, this occurs when
Eddard hires soldiers to overtake the crown and kingdom. The novel states to consider duty and
justice to be one and the same is nonsense, one must do what one must do in the world of A Game
of Thrones. Irony is also seen when Lord Baelish betrays Eddard and leads him to his execution he
yells, the best thing you ve done since arriving, is not trusting me . When

The War of the Roses
The War of the Roses were a series of dynastic wars fought between supporters of two rival
branches of the royal house of plantagenet, the house of Lancaster and york. This wars were
fought in several sprordartic espisodes beteen 1455 and 1487. In my opinion this war was not
necessary for the history of Europe because they could only had had talked and solve it in a simple
way.
The War of the Roses is called The War of the Roses because the two houses are represented by two
roses, the House of Lancaster is represented by a red rose and the House of Yorkis represented by a
white rose. The War of the Roses started because when Henry VI had the crown, he was ill so his

VII married Elizabeth of Yorkand had four children: Arthur, Prince of Wales, Henry VII of England
, Margaret Tudor (Queen of Scots) and Mary Tudor (Queen of France). Arthur got married with
Catherine of Aragon and didn t have children. Henry VIII got married 6 times with Catherine of
Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr,
he also had three children: Mary I of England, Elizabeth I of England and Edward VI of England.
His sister Margaret Tudor got married three times with James IV of Scotland, Archibald
Douglass and Henry Stewart, she had two children: James V of Scotland and Margaret Douglass.
The last one in the family, Mary Tudor only got married two times, the first one with Louis XII
of France and Charles Brandon, she didn t have any children. Elizabeth of York made part of the
House of York and when she married Henry VII Tudor, the two houses bonded to create the House
of Tudor.
There were many wars during this time, the first one being the War of St. Albans in 1459 where
Richards yorkish army defeats Henry s lancastrian army. Again in 1459 The Battle of the Ludford
Bridge takes place and this time Henry wins and the yorkish run away.

people s lives everyday and sometimes people with the disorder do not know how to help

Practicing a negative or positive behavior allows the behavior to be more automatic on the
behavior that is being practiced. Social anxiety can change someone s will or determination by
being afraid to do something someone is determined to do. Someone may have fear of
completing what needs to be done if there is a social aspect in the process. Emotions can be
changed because it can isolate someone with the disorder by isolating them so they are
completely alone with their fear of being social. Society has a large part in social anxiety.
Society is not accepting to differences, so people with social anxiety might be afraid to show
who their true self is, therefore they may not want to be in a social environment. In some
cultures it is accepting to be socially isolated, but when someone is socially isolated and they
have to go into the community, they have more anxiety because they have previously isolated him
or herself. This disorder can keep people from furthering or continuing their education because
they are afraid to ask questions or talk to colleges. The disorder can also get in the way or religion.
If someone with the anxiety wants to go to church, they are afraid because people will attempt to
interact with them. If they want to learn about the bible or have certain questions, they do not want
to ask someone to translate scriptures from the bible, therefore they will have to figure it out on

The Second Elegy
Chapter One
Bad love is better than no love? Can t buy it. Don t want to buy it. Eve spoke in a clipped fashion
as she walked hurriedly along the downtown street with her longtime friend, Shirley. Both women
were of strong bearing and fierce countenance.
Eve was a single, auburn haired, thirty eight year old professor of esoteric studies at the University
of Aztlan. Men, far and wide and from all walks of life, described her as a bronze skinned, magical
beauty, emotionally weathered but determined. Her life continuously hung in the balance, an
unnerving play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bad love is no love, Shirley no love at all. Her blood pressure rose, heat and tingling along her
neck and ears. She needed to say more about Shirley s bullshit idea. She didn t want it stuck in her
head. Whatever she didn t speak up about stayed stuck, and kept going round and round, so she
didn t like it one bit when she let that infernal fly keep up its mental buzzing.
She couldn t stop herself. Goddammit, Shirley. There s more to love than illusion. I ll clear
through the junk and find the real thing. If this thing is junk, I m not going to ride it for the thrill. I
need to trash what s trash. Fantasies are just that, fantasies. I want what s real. Doesn t have to be
perfect just real.
Eve was the softer of the two friends, but whenever Shirley got under her skin, she got fired up.
She couldn t let wrong mindedness and messed up thinking pass, wouldn t compromise principle.
Eve wouldn t stop herself from saying what she needed to say when she needed to say it, lest a
twisted notion keep itself hidden and locked away in Shirley s mind, and then spring up like a

What Does The Cleft Mean
Angela Carter once said, But you have no silver linings without a cloud. This quote was
certainly true for the servant girl named Kaali in the short story The Cleft by Prajwal Parajuly.
Though all the insults and negative gestures aimed toward Kaali may seem destructive but those
insults have actually helped her develop perseverance, resilience, and self confidence. Without
those insults, Kaali would have had a harder time developing these essential qualities.
Throughout Kaali s life, she has learned to persevere through all the hard times people give her.

Examples Of Objective Anxiety
Objective and Neurotic Anxiety:
There are two kinds of anxieties, the objective anxiety and the neurotic anxiety. Objective anxiety
occurs when there is a real, external threat and danger and neurotic anxiety arrives from within the
self, due to unconscious feelings and memories. In order for the individual to cope with the neurotic
anxiety he develops various defence mechanisms. One of them is the mechanism of projection
which is when his unwanted feelings and impulses that are responsible for the anxiety, are
projected to someone else. This has as a result, the individual to alleviate his anxiety but by acting
in this way the real threat is still within himself and it still influence him by distorting his reality.
This distortion of the reality is the effect of his projection as now he is perceiving others as not
what they really are but as what he had projected onto them. Others can introject, absorb and
identify with these projections and start to act and behave like they belong to them. This is what
Melanie Klein named Projective identification.

Metaphors In Popular Culture
Literature, movies, and TV signify various aspects of culture and society using metaphors.
Monsters (e.g., vampires, werewolves, zombies, witches, and mermaids) are, sometimes, cultural
metaphors; they reflect culture issues. The portrayal and the features of such abnormal creatures
have been changed over the years as popular culture has changed. Vampirestories, one in particular,
have undergone a transformation from gothic subgenre to a romantic subgenre. Today, the
popularity of vampires has crossed over to create a vampire subgenre. Draculaand Twilight are two
celebrated work in vampire fictionin which vampires appeared differently in each work. Thereby,
this paper aims to discuss the differences in portraying vampires in Dracula and Twilight, and the
cultural significances which Dracula and Twilight symbolize.
Paul Murgatroyd, in Mythical Monsters in Classical Literature, explains the origin of the word
monster. He states that it is originally monstrum a Latin word which refers to preternatural
situations or evil creatures and it is related to the word moneo that means caution and alert (202).
Monsters have been used in literature since ancient history in poetry, ... Show more content on

vampires are savage and manipulative who tempt and fascinate their victims until they subsided
without knowing the vampires real intention (45). They were restricted in a specific instruction

during the ninth century literature, according to Hobbs, is to use them as an indication of evil,
corruption and the abusive force that uses the life and soul of an innocent victim, one which must
be destroyed by human society (110). Victorian vampires behave fiercely immoral and plan on

Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth
Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational
forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and
the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this
bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly
smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the
earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and
the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows
relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for
use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In
addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very
predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be
optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your
community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there
could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three
ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first,
barrages, make use of the

These six categories are used to organize and explain technology s effect and changes over a long period of time. By categorizing a specific topic or idea, one may easily be able to understand the importance that topic, idea and technology has impacted a person, culture, country, and even history. Thus, providing a new outlook and perspective on history and the factors that contributed to the change in history. Firstly, the PERSIA model breaks into the category, political. Political describes how technology has impacted the political system. Throughout history, technology has caused government, whether it be state and or federal government, to update its laws to accommodate and regulate the use of said technology. Many technological advancements and inventions need to be regulated or added to the law because it causes chaos and interruption and many of the times it causes danger to society. The next category, economic, defines how technology influences the financial market in society and not so much on individuals within society. Rather, it looks at the economics of the society as a whole. By looking at how technology has impacted the economy at a macro level, it is clearer to see how large corporations and big business are affected than the individual consumer. • 15. American Society And Ugandan Society I stepped off the plane and the smell of burning trash immediately flooded my nostrils. The pungent smell permeated the air. Driving in the absence of lane lines, crosswalks, or any sense of organization made the eleven hour bus ride from the airport to my final destination all the more calamitous and fearsome. However, the most shocking of all in this initial experience of a new culture, was seeing vast amounts abandoned children. The biggest contrast between American society and Ugandan society is the difference in the value of children. In America, parents generally highly value their children and are willing to make sacrifices them. For children in Uganda , the story is quite different; they are exploited, abused, and viewed as burdens. The adverse effects of military occupation in Uganda can be traced back to the beginning of colonization. European countries like Britain, Belgium, and France all rushed into Africaat the end of the 19th Century trying to get their slice of Africa. Some nations were worse than others, but the two common themes that tied African imperialism together were racism and exploitation. For decades, the Ugandan people were under rulers that exploited them and treated them as if they could not be trusted in society. They explain that all human action is at the foundation of their moral theories. Mill addresses the Greatest Happiness Principle, which is the greatest amount of pleasure to the least amount of pain. Similarly, Aristotle addresses happinessthrough the idea of eudaimoniaand human flourishing. According to Aristotle, eudaimonia is happiness, it is the state of contemplation that individuals are in when they have reached actualized happiness. Also referred to as happiness or human flourishing, it is the ultimate goal of human beings. Happiness is living well and acting well. He explains that once general happiness becomes recognized as the moral standard, natural sentiment will nurture feelings that promote utilitarianism. According to Aristotle, happiness is a state of being. Both Mill and Aristotle agree that in order to attain true happiness, human beings must engage in activities that are distinct to humans and that make them happy. Paradoxically Bruce Dawe s satirical and judgmental voice in Enter without so much knocking (Knock) conveys his criticisms of society s shallow meaningless life. Caged Bird by Angelou makes the audience reconsider the real conditions of the free bird and the caged bird . This contrast between the birds throughout the poem enables her to explore the issues of freedom and isolation in African American society. Angelou utilises various literary devices and techniques such as repetition, irony and imagery to convey her attitudes and beliefs about the beauty of freedom. Repetition is used when the poem repeats the third stanza at the end of the poem to further emphasis freedom, this reflects the two birds that are different. for the caged bird sings of freedom is the last line of stanza three conveying an important message to the readers, that the caged bird wants to be free. The juvenile court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in adult courts. Adult courts do try and rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation is combined with incarceration. It is essentially an umbrella theory for many theories that have contributed to what is known as, Progressive Education. Key Influences Friedrich Wilhelm August FrГ¶bel (1782 1852) was a German pedagogue and educator who first coined the term kindergarten in 1840. His main contribution was realizing the importance of activity of the child, such as free work and games, in learning and that each child learns differently and has different capabilities. He was a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746 1827) who felt that individuals best learned through experiences and through a direct manipulation and experience of objects and children were intrinsically motivated. Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of pedagogy as an academic discipline. According to Herbart, abilities were not innate but could be instilled, so a thorough education could provide the framework for moral and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was done through Smart technology allowing my students to go on a virtual fieldtrip. They were able to learn more about the three environments and the types of animals that live in those environments. 12. During this lesson today, my students exhibited behaviors that showed me they were engaged. They listened to the expectations well and did exactly what I requested of them to do. They were actively listening and participating during the station time. 13.I was able to see that the students were focusing, responding, asking questions, volunteering, etc. throughout the lesson. I also gave formative assessments throughout the lesson as well as a final assessment. One example of a student s response would be when my students were participating in small group discussions with peers. I went to the station this student was at and asked the student how they knew what animals belonged in the desert environment. This student was able to articulate a response to me which demonstrated learning. Additionally, I did interviews with the students as a formative assessment. The final assessment took place when the students participated in the SmartBoard matching activity at the end of the lesson. 14. • 26. My Ethical Qualms With The Toilet Initial interest and topic expansion This paper started as a way to talk about my ethical qualms with the toilet and see if there was a scientific basis to back them up. More than a history or philosophy of how the modern toilet came to be, I wanted to see if there is scientific evidence to back up my idea of toilets and the modern sewage treatment systems as wasteful. In order to understand the wastefulness, or efficiency, of the toilet however, I had to answer the question, what happens when we flush? This may not be the most interesting or sexiest information about waste, but it is an important look into a part of the waste stream we contribute to daily, in fact, according to the American Water Works Association, an average of five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Modern sewage formed in response to the 1858 Great Stink of London. The Great Stink was a product of many factors. The introduction of flush toilets replacing previously popular chamber pots increased water and waste volume into cesspits. Additionally, these cesspits, once only used for excess rainwater collection, began to carry waste from slaughterhouses and factories, contaminating the city before its ultimate departure into the River Thames, which began to overflow with sewage along with its tributaries. All of this combined with an unusually hot summer encouraged bacterial growth, a rancid odor, and contributed to a cholera outbreak. In response, London build thousands of miles of underground pipe and created the modern sewage treatment system [2]. Two categories of sewage treatment Sewage treatment can be broken into two categories storm sewers and sanitary sewers [3]. Storm sewers Storm sewers drain excess rain and groundwater from manmade infrastructure like roads and parking lots, get less treatment or sometimes none at all. Sometimes it may be processed to remove stuff like car oil [3]. Sanitary sewers Sanitary sewers are processed to clean up human waste. Although there are many methods of dealing with human waste, the generally accepted method in North America consists of a three stage sewage treatment system. • 28. Immanuel Kant On Free Will Do humans truly have free will or are their lives completely predetermined? This question of free will has and will always remain to be a place for argument in philosophy. Many of the great philosophers attempted to answer this question, but none did as well of a job as Immanuel Kant. He lays the basis of his argument in his Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics. Kant writes this prolegomena in response to David Hume s of skepticism, and therefore, Kant is attempting to more firmly ground metaphysics. In the introduction Kant says, I openly confess my recollection of David Hume was the very thing which many years ago first interrupted my dogmatic slumber and gave my investigations in the field of speculative philosophya quite new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When broken down Kant is appealing to both his thesis and his antithesis; he is agreeing with both. Kant agrees that humans are beings of nature and therefore they follow the rules of nature, but he also is accepting his thesis by saying that they are free. But in the former case reason is the cause of these laws of nature, and therefore free; in the latter, the effects follow according to mere natural laws of sensibility (Prolegomena). Instead of rejecting the laws of nature and saying that humans are free of all ties, he is agreeing that certain things do govern the way in which humans act. Furthermore, he suggest that Freedom is therefore no hindrance to natural law in appearances: neither does this law abrogate the freedom of the practical use of reason, which is connected with things in themselves, as determining grounds (Prolegomena). Regardless of natural law humans are free and neither one interferes with the other. His prolegomena is not the only work where Kant addresses free will. In his work, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant suggests that morality is based on the concept of freedom. He states, A rational being must always regard himself as law giving in a realm of ends that is possibly only through the freedom of the will, and this holds whether he belongs to the realm as a member or as sovereign (Groundwork). We can see the biggest distinction between the two in their theories of how we know things exist. The traditions of Plato and Aristotle have been dubbed rationalism and empiricism respectively. Under these traditions many well known philosophers have formed their own theories of God, existence and the material world. Consequently, God s essence exists through His own active power and necessity. For this Spinoza was considered an atheist (Collins, 1967, p.83). Lastly Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz was an educated mathematician, scientist, historian, diplomat, theologian and philosopher. He had the same dream as Spinoza and Descartes, that is, hope for a systematic organization of all conceivable knowledge. In order to achieve this dream he required first, to perfect a universal scientific language that would reduce all thoughts to mathematical symbols. Second, he succeeded in developing one of the first forms of calculus. With this reasoning tool Leibniz hoped to bring all thought under the reign of symbolic logic (Rogers Baird, 1981, p. 70). However, workplace conflict could be caused by different influencing factors, which have been addressed into several main themes by conflict management scholars. In carrying out the studies, many of them differentiated workplace conflict into two types. First, affective conflict or relationship conflict or emotional conflict which usually engage incompatible feelings and emotions; and second, task conflict or substantive conflict or cognitive conflict which usually emerge disagreements on job content issues (Riaz Junaid 2011). • 32. Superstition On The Face Of Logic By Dr. Mortimer Theme The most prevalent theme of this book is superstition in the face of logic. Throughout the novel the logician, Sherlock Holmes, is faced with something quite the opposite of logic: a supernatural hound. The reader can see in many places that the supernatural beliefs of the townsfolk and neighbours of the Hall swayed the reasoning of those trying to unravel the layers of mystery surrounding the investigation. This intersection of rational thought and irrational belief is first presented by Dr. Mortimer at the beginning of the novel. Dr. Mortimer introduction as a man of science sets a tone of intellectuality; Holmes and Mortimer make small talk of his medical practice, Holmes deductions, and the intricacies of Holmes skull structure. This is immediately skewed by the telling of the legend of the hound. The reading of this unworldly myth promptly makes the atmosphere eerie and mystical. These two undercurrents mix together for the first time in this scene, when Mortimer makes it clear he believes the supernatural explanation for the crime committed. Another clear indicator of the theme appears in evidence of the hound. There are several indicators throughout the novel that the there is a real dog in play. However, instead of being interpreted as evidence of a real dog, they are dismissed as superstition or insignificant by most; it is these pieces of evidence that Holmes uses to determine that the dog is of the corporeal world. The name Apollonian came from the Greek God Apollo, meaning good or obedient. Dionysian came from the Greek God Dionysus, meaning more dark or sensual. He used the names Apollonian and Dionysian for the two forces because Apollo, as the sun god, represents light, clarity, and form, whereas Dionysus, as the wine god, represents drunkenness and ecstasy. Today, there are 300,000 child soldiers around the world, fighting grown men with more experience, and many are dying. The big issue with children being soldiers is the fact that they re being intoxicated with harmful drugs and alcohol, their minds aren t fully developed to make educated decisions, and these children are becoming soldiers against their will. But on the other hand the people that think that it is violent have no real evidence and only say things like someone could get hurt, but from what the water, and they also say that it involves weapons but that really doesn t mean anything. The evidence for why it is harmless is because there has never been a death or killing from playing those harmless games because there is nothing wrong with them. Others say that the game is very dangerous but there is no evidence for that, the only thing that they say is that it simulates violence but there is really nothing violent about it, besides that the game is just fun. • 51. Examples Of Objective Anxiety Objective and Neurotic Anxiety: There are two kinds of anxieties, the objective anxiety and the neurotic anxiety. Objective anxiety occurs when there is a real, external threat and danger and neurotic anxiety arrives from within the self, due to unconscious feelings and memories. In order for the individual to cope with the neurotic anxiety he develops various defence mechanisms. One of them is the mechanism of projection which is when his unwanted feelings and impulses that are responsible for the anxiety, are projected to someone else. This has as a result, the individual to alleviate his anxiety but by acting in this way the real threat is still within himself and it still influence him by distorting his reality. This distortion of the reality is the effect of his projection as now he is perceiving others as not what they really are but as what he had projected onto them. Others can introject, absorb and identify with these projections and start to act and behave like they belong to them. This is what Melanie Klein named Projective identification. • 53. Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first, barrages, make use of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
