Probable Cause
Tillian Stokeling

Criminal Procedures
Mid Term Probable cause does not rise to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt but must
be beyond a mere hunch or guess. The legal standard to a probable cause arrest is when an
officer finds evidence during a valid stop and frisk search that confirms the reasonable suspicion
of an officer that a crime has been or is being committed and would lead to the arrest of and
offender. There are a variety of sources to establish probable cause and they are personally
observed facts by an officer, information received from an informant. When information supplied by
informant the courts and police need to know what facts was observed by them and why should

The defense case in chief must mount a defense that either demolishes the prosecutor s case or, at a
bare minimum, creates reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. A defendant has no burden of
proofs in any criminal case and can still prevail without introducing any evidence with the exception
of affirmative defenses. Based on the Fifth Amendment the defendant may choose not to testify to
avoid self incrimination. The defense counsel also calls defense witnesses for direct examination.
Defense testimony may also include expert witnesses who have special training and qualifications
and are permitted to offer opinions. The prosecution is permitted to cross examine each defense
witness.
Reasonable Suspicion is a crime has or about to occur. If an officer has some suspicion of
criminality of a person they are allowed to do a limited stop and frisk of the individual just for
the safety of the officer. The Terry, courts have adapted the stop and frisk rationale to situations
involving automobiles and airport detentions. A reasonable level of force may be used to
effectuate the stop if the individual proves resistance. The subject may be briefly questioned about
the unusual conduct; if the explanation proves unreasonable, and the officer reasonably believes
the person is armed and dangerous, he or she may conduct a limited search of the outer clothing.
The facts that generate an officer s reasonable basis to suspect criminal activity may be derived

How To Play A Victim
In your life, you can choose to play a Victim, with a capital V or you can play or a Creator with a
capital C. A Victim is a person that just takes whatever life gives them. A Creator creates whatever
the outcome may be. In school, people tend to play the victim a lot and very little they play the
creator. I think these two students I will tell you about implement victimand creator quite accurately.
In his teaching blog Professor. David Mirman, he states what to do to be a successful college student
and overall person. He states that he wanted his class to get a certain textbook from the school
store and many had the book way before had to be prepared for the first day of class, as they were.
So, while the other students had the book two others did not. Prof. Mirman was accepting to the
fact and he said just have the book by the second week. Both students went to the student store and
the store clerks told them they had run out. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My grandmother shows me what it means to be a creator only because of her perseverance and
her determinedness. She was born during the time of the Great Depression and she went through
so much in her life. She also went through the wars, Pearl Harbor, Civil Rights Movement, etc.
She adapted to all these life changes. She worked as a seamstress and worked at the Naval
Weapon Station. When my grandmother got up in age I began to take heed to what she always
told me. She made every situation a good one while she was living and I look up to her for that.
She told me I could always do what I wanted to do in life I just had to stick to it and try my best. I
implemented trying my best by thinking of her. She always brought up how far she came and one
day I asked what she meant by that, and she told me that she was going to school when there were

The Importance Of Recess In School
Think about it, when was the last time you asked a kindergartener what their favorite subject in
school is and they didn t answer recess? With increased standardized testing and rigid federal and
state requirements, most elementary students are now spending more time in the classroom than
outside playing. Most schools seem to think that recess is unimportant or a waste of time that is not
needed in a childs education. This is a very untrue statement, in fact recess is not only good for our
health but it has also had positive effects on childrens everyday learning. Around the United States
researchers, teachers, parents and children have begun to notice that recess and its effects that it
has on children is essential in every child s school... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They couldn t think of time where they couldn t go out and play on the blacktop or swing on the
jungle gym or even hang with their friends. But the people running the school wouldn t notice a
difference. Even though school staff are trying to improve the amount of learning endured
during the day, they are actually decreasing the quality of work by taking away recess. Most
school officials are unaware of the importance of recess. Though the effects of recces on
kindergarteners and first graders are not very significant, as they get older signs of change
become more and more relevant whether its during testing or just paying attention during class.
Teachers may notice the difference but they may not know the causes of this lack of focus.
Speaking in support of more recess principal Angela Long said, We find that we spend less time
in the classroom redirecting off task behavior. So, kids are going to take recess whether it s in
the class or outside so we just give it to them, (Long). She is saying recess is essential to kids. It is
like the sun rising and setting, it is inevitable, the sun has to set at some point and the children have

The Global Sex Trade And Women As The Supplier Essay
The Global Sex Trade and Women as the Supplier
Introduction
Women involved or forced into sex work (prostitution) are striped of dignity and self worth they
come from poverty, migration and cultural backgrounds that face gender inequality (Bhat Pushpam,
2013, p. 3). Forced prostitution is a global problem but is more prevalent in poorer countries (True,
2013). Victims of prostitution affect women and children of all ages (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3).
The sex industry thrives making billions of dollars and is funded by investors, crooked recruiters,
and even corrupt government employees (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Females involved in the sex
trade face inhuman treatment they are raped, demoralized, defeated and will never live a normal
life again (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Many women will migrate across borders in search for
economic stability but instead will be coerced into sex work (Wonders Danner, 2002). Women in
poorer countries with low social class face gender inequalities mainly because of cultural and
political misguidance. Strategies that can help prevent women from forced prostitution and sex
work include higher pay, a support system for women to get an education, and government reforms
to help prevent migration and the people that keep the industry thriving.
Effects of Poverty on Women
Sex workers can exist anywhere but are primarily more prevalent in poorer countries and women
and children who participate or who are forced into sex work do so

On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian...
Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson
as being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore
similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess
and Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in
both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade
their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were
viewed at this juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54),
it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the Duke of Ferrara never explicitly verbalizes the Duchess fate, it is strongly implied that
she died as a result of her inability to conform to his model of appropriate behaviour: And if she

would be some stooping; and I choose Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt, Whene er I

all smiles stopped together. There she stands As if alive (Browning, My Last Duchess, lines 39
47) Thus the Duchess is bound to the Duke and has become imprisoned within his art collection
as nothing more than a possession. The Duke exemplifies this view when he makes reference to
another piece of his art collection, as if the current and previous subjects of his monologue were
completely analogous, Notice Neptune, though/ Taming a sea horse, thought a rarity/ Which
Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me! (Browning 54 56), he truly appreciates both pieces
with similar enthusiasm. Although the Duchess is allocated no space to give her side of the
story, through the Duke s depiction the reader can infer that she was killed for having her own
free will and as such there is zero doubt that she is a victim of imprisonment of the Duke s
egocentric ideals. While he puts an adulterous spin on her actions, by declaring: She had A heart

Reflection Paper On Why I Want To Be A Lawyer
Lawyers are often portrayed as invidious, rigid, and odious in media, as well attract an uneasy
feeling in most individuals when brought up in conversation. Frequently they are at the
punchline of jokes insulting their quirks. The obvious question is why would anyone want to be
an attorney? In my case, I get a lot of influence from my mother who was a lawyer for twenty
years. I was very proud to tell people my mom was a practicing attorney, even more so today
knowing she often defended those that were unable to pay for alternative council. Another
reason is I enjoy history, even when it is upsetting to learn about. My reasoning is it gives me
perspective on my own life, as well as giving me hope that through this new perspective I can
reflect and make a positive impact on lives including my own. I look at cases like Brown v.
Board of Education and it inspires me that perhaps I could make a difference on society through
the courtroom. Lastly although I may not illustrate in my classroom demeanor that I enjoy
speaking in public, but when prepared I enjoy the feeling of attempting to captivate others from
my speech to bend them or lean them towards my way of thinking. This isn t to say I am
incapable of breaking away from opinions I have formed over the years quite the contrary, I learn
the most when I listen to others speak. With regard to my mom Patricia Wengert, I draw a lot of
inspiration from her to become an attorney. When she was 16 years old she became pregnant with

The Failure Of Northern Rock In The Light Of Banking...
The Failure of Northern Rock in the Light of Banking Economics and Regulation
Introduction
Increasing global connectivity and integration in today s world ensures that almost any serious
problem has worldwide ramifications. The global financial system can serve as a key example of
this phenomenon. Very recently, Britain s fifth largest mortgage lender Northern Rock was rescued
by emergency funding from the Bank of England. This made the Newcastle based firm the highest
profile UK victim of the global credit crunch that had been triggered by the sub prime mortgage
crisis in the US. The bank run on Northern Rock that followed was unprecedented in recent UK
monetary history. The Overend Guerney crash of 1866 was the last recorded bank run... Show more

The crisis broke in August when French bank BNP Paribas suspended three of its investment funds
with exposures to the troubled US sub prime market. Since it was believed that many banks had
invested in similar securities, many banks felt that they did not know enough about the solvency of
the banks to which they may lend to and how much losses they had suffered as a result of their
exposures in the impaired US mortgage market. Subsequently, the lending on the inter bank market
came to a halt.
Northern Rock s Business Model
Although all banks were facing greater than normal difficulties in acquiring funds given the lack
of credit that was available on the global institutional debt markets, Northern Rock was hit harder
than most. Its core business was, and still is, residential mortgage lending. Northern Rock was
the biggest provider of mortgages in the UK in the first half of 2007. It sold up to 19% of all new
mortgage policies during that time. However, it had a comparatively smaller deposit base meaning
that most of its funding came from sources besides deposits from ordinary retail customers.
Famously, seventy five percent of its funding came from the wholesale money markets and just
twenty five percent from retail funding. Additionally, like many other banks, Northern Rock
extensively engaged in packaging many of its mortgage assets into special purpose companies and
raised funds in the wholesale market by

The Hardest Job That I Have Ever Had Changed My Life
The hardest job that I have ever had in my life that required a lot of my time and effort, is raising
my sons . I was and I still am a single mother of three boys, Tunji (my oldest), Jaylon and Jaleel
(my twins). This has and is a fulltime job, but I am not going to speak about the present, only my
past life of raising my three sons. I have always worked but there was a time that I had to stop
working in order to focus on my twins. I knew from the age of 1 year old, something just wasn t
quite right with their behavior and cognitive development was lacking in a lot of areas. For
example; not talking, just babbling and pointing at objects, loud noises caused them to shut
down and cover their ears, lining up objects and any little disturbance in their routine caused
them to have a tantrum or screaming fit. It was so hard trying to get answers from doctors, their
favorite thing to say to me was it s a twin thing they will grow out of it. This was the beginning of
a long hard road. The three most enjoyable things that I liked about this job is: Investigating,
finding out what was wrong with my sons? Why are they behaving in this manner? I was
relentless in finding out and I didn t stop until I received all the right answers. I finally started
getting answers, first I found out that they had a sleeping disorder, so they was put on sleeping
pills, my thought was YES, I will know get sleep! The second diagnoses was ADHD, which

Abortion Should Be Legal
Should Abortion Be Legal In The U.S.... The topic of abortion is quite a controversial one, many
people are both for and against the motion: Should abortion be legal in the U.S.? . The main
arguments for this topic are You are taking a child s life when aborting. but others may say Women
deserve the right to their own health decisions. Many people are also in the grey spot with this
topic, many believe under certain circumstances such as medical complications, that abortion
should be legal.According to Truthout abortion has existed for nearly four thousand years (About
1983 bc), Instructions for an abortion even appear in the Bible. In Numbers 5:11 31, God is said to
tell Moses about The Test for an Unfaithful Wife , a drink given to a woman accused by her
husband of unfaithfulness. Any unfaithful woman would miscarry the unborn fetus and any faithful
woman would be left unharmed. In the 1600s enslaved women would take measures to abort
fetuses. This happened in a time when women were commonly raped by slave owners. Colonial
women often conducted the abortions, using the savin from the juniper bush, pennyroyal, tansy,
ergot, and seneca snakeroot to terminate pregnancies. In the US women have been terminating
pregnancies since colonists first arrived here. Abortion was first outlawed in connecticut in 1821,
the first state to outlaw abortion. By 1910 every state, kentucky included had outlawed abortion.

Of Humanity In The Novel And Quentin Tarantino s Pulp...
Textual form has changed throughout time to reflect different ideals, values and notions of human
ontology in a world seemingly void of meaning. Throughout the 20th centaury, post modern artists
have disrupted traditional paradigms of thinking that have governed our lives and forged out
perceptions of selfhood and linear time. Emerging from the horror of world war II as well as the
emptiness that accompanied it, composers were forced to contemplate upon the very meaning of
human existence. And although composers since this time have varied with context, perspective
and purpose, the continued struggle to reason for humanities existence remains as an undercurrent
in all texts. This search for meaning, which has been explored by several composers, has manifested
into, and is representative of the directionless state of humanity, and struggle in identifying our own
identities. Thus, texts of the postmodern era expose and question the unstable ontological grounds
that humanity is founded upon. Jean Luc Godard French New WaveFilm, A Bout De Souffle (1960)
questions whether our existence is validated by self, or recognition from others. Kurt Vonneguts
Slaughterhouse 5 (1972) uses a non linear plot to communicate how we are forever incarnated in

individual. Furthermore, Hughes shows the benefit of waiting until you understand why an
individual acts or dresses a specific way rather than just assuming their reasons for doing so.
Another issue Hughes touches on is how bad parenting effects these student s lives and
personalities. Abuse, neglect, and pressure are all issues that these students face with their parents

devices in the poem above. There s an allusion to the River of Lethe, which is a river in Greek

speaker has about her lover, would be gone and she would finally forget him. But yet there seems
to be this irony, as the speaker claims she will forget him, but yet finds herself reflecting on these
memories. Moreover, there s another allusion and that is time. Although, its in the form of a

The Underground Railroad Is Such An Integral Part Of History
The Underground Railroad is such an integral part of history. This paper will provide insight into
railroad, a key event that assisted in igniting more passion toward ending slavery, a couple of
key players, the routes and the final destinations of the passengers of the railroad. During the
time of slavery, networks of places to meet to escort slaves to freedom were created to move
them up north. These networks being to materialize in the early 1800 s. The meeting places
were secret in nature and were later given the term Underground Railroad. The railroad would
begin in the south and end in the northern states and Canada. The railroad assisted, by estimation,
over one hundred thousand slaves to freedom. (Curtis, 1941) The action of assisting the slaves
was illegal during this time but they were assisted by good people called abolitionist. (Blackett,

movement was an effort to abolish slavery. There was one name that is not mentioned an often

Tthe Improtance of Note Taking
Note taking
Taking note is one of the best ways to prepare for exam. Reading different books, collecting
information from other sources and merging all the notes together helps to gives a clear image
and deeper understanding on specific topic. Using an outline format I try to get as much
information as i can in a piece of paper and record the lecture at the same time as the tutor will not
wait for the student to write notes down. Listening to the recorder again and again helps to
reorganize my notes as well as avoid confusion. Recall the new terms mentioned by the teacher
while teaching in lesson as they might be very important for the exam. While writing notes, I try to
summarize each section on my own word by using abbreviation, different font style, bullet points
and diagrams. This helps me to develop my shorthand making it easier to memorize. As well as the
notes in lecture, I try using different revision aids like revision guide books and different revision
websites like www.s cool.co.uk and www.revisionworld.co.uk. Revision guides are a very

Controls can be classified according to the time at which the control is applied to the activity
before, during or after. My last job was in OCASA, my manager was Lisebel Sardinas she is a good
manager, she gave me the responsibility on my jobs and tasks day by day, the time elements in

2. Evaluate the control system applied by your manager by following the 9 characteristics of
effective controls. According to the result of this analysis, please, suggest how to improve it.
a. The control must be accepted, as I said in my example the control was done every Friday,
sometimes was frustrated for me, and is not a excuse but sometimes the check doesn t come
because the customers don t want to pay, but not because I don t do the job, for me the control
must follow in the same form to correct the errors on time but should be flexible to the employees
which at the end of the week conclude at least the seventy percent of your tasks.
b. The control measures must be appropriate and meaningful; in OCASA the control measures to
the accounting department bring the opportunity to gain incentives such as a weekend in Orlando,
Sabine Island and others, each six months Lisebel Sardinas General Manager of accounting gave
the new tasks and goals for each of those, at the end of those six months we already know if we
can participate in this.
c. An effective control measure provide diagnostic information, if controls are to improve
performance, they must help people correct deviations for performance. In my example I think if
OCASA doesn t have a feedback control showing employees what is the error every

There are many great men in American history, whose influences impacted our early society so
much that they are credited with the title of a founding father. One of whom, had much direct
impact on our early American societies. Thomas Jefferson, an early American founding father, is
credited to have had much influence on what shaped our early American society, and what would
go on to eventually become the bases of our modern American way of life. Jefferson is best known
as the leading classical liberal in American history. As the author of the Declaration of
Independence, he outlined the political principles that launched the new nation. (James Thomas

was a great American philosopher. The philosophies which he created at this time are still in some

Summary Of Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Stage 1 is the Electroencephalogram (EEG). The EEG provides a summary of electro activity
from a certain area of the brain. The EEG is also the sum of the electrical activity of all neurons
between the two recording electrodes (Garrett,2015). Stage 1 is when one is feeling drowsy and
transitioning into a state of sleep (Thien Thanh Dang Vu, 2017). Stage 2 is the K complex. These
are sharp waves that happen at least once a minute. This stage characterizes the first stage of sleep.
Stage 2 has an appearance of spindles (Thien Thanh Dang Vu, 2017). Where the waves have a
gating function that help to prevent the unsettling stimuli from reaching the cortex part of the brain
that will in turn awaken the sleeper. Stage 3 is known as the slow wave

Analyzing The American Short Story Into The New Millennium
Marcelle Tikka
Into the New Millennium
Given the ever changing and quick paced life of the millennials, the American short story has gone
through changes as well. Society norms are shifting, reflecting the present values of a culture that
demands acceptance in religion, gender, and race. As with all the ages of the American short story,
the author s writings are affected by the social and cultural changes around them. Through the
advancements of the internet and mass media globalization of information accelerated rapidly. This
brought an awareness of global warming, environmental pollution, and third world poverty to the
American public. Knowledge of these problems has brought with it, controversy regarding the

The Rene Bridging By Garcia Summary
As the title the renegade, or a confused mind suggested, the first thing needed to understand is
what his confusion is. The beginning of the story reveals his source of confusion and
foreshadows the main theme of the story to find order and seek unity for his senseless life:
What a muddle, what a muddle! I must put my head in order. Since they cut out my tongue,
another tongue, I don t know, goes on wagging inside my skull, something is talking or someone,
who suddenly shuts up and then begins all over again oh I hear too many things I m not saying,
what a muddle, and if I open my mouth it s like the noise of rattling pebbles. Some order, any
orders, says the tongue, and it talks of other things at the same time, yes I always yearned for...

However, when explaining the reason he want to kill the missionary, instead of directly stating
it, the renegade parallels the act of killing the missionary with the act of killing the father: ...kill
the father, that s what one had to do, but no danger that he would throw himself into missionary
work since he died long ago, the acidic wine finally ate holes in his stomach, so all that s left is
to kill the missionary. (28) In Catholicism, another name for the missionary is also father. He
considers the Catholicism he used to believe in as father, the one who brings security, happiness,
and order to his life. Killing the father would mean the renegade decides to leave that protection
and grow into a real man to find new orders and unity for himself. However, the renegade doesn t
grow and find unity within him, instead, he simply converting to a new religion to seek order
for his life. In other word, the renegade simply just find a new father instead of growing. This
dependency on external ideology instead of the strong belief from himself leads to the destruction
of his new form of life. Even when his order and unity are destructed again, he still seeks external
help instead of internal examination: Leave behind that face of hatred, begged now, we were
mistaken, we shall begin again, yes, help me, that s it, hold out your hand, give... (47) As expected,

The World Of The Arab Emirates
Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is
planning a new megaproject, The Mall of the World. This project will be located in Al Sufouh,
Dubai, which is one of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab
Emirates is located in the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It also extends part of the Gulf of
Oman and the Persian Gulf on its southern coast. This positioned the country to have bordering
countries such as Saudi Arabia to the southwest, Qatar and Iran in the north, and Oman in the east.
This enhances the United Arab Emiratestrading with neighboring countries which led to a positive
effect on the economy. Yet, the sandy and barren city strives to improve their economic standing
each and every day. With a population of 9.2 million, the country continues to grow and expand to
further their reputation as one of the richest country in the world. One of the most important part
of the United Arab Emirates history is their federation being formed in 1971. Specifically, this
federation had a huge effect on Dubai. In Dubai becoming part of the seven emirates, there was an
increased influence on the city s development and growth. Even as the city saw an influx in
immigrants fleeing from the Lebanese civil war in December 1971, Dubai together with Abu
Dhabi, the capital, and 5 other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the formal protector
of Britain left the Persian Gulf. The country s

The Workplace Challenges And Organizational Behavior
In contrast with the past workplace challenges and organizational behavior, there is a necessity to
understand ourselves and others. Sometimes the stress and prestige can cause an adverse impact on
one s position in the workplace. The ability to deal with our emotions while working effectually
with others and at the same time, performing the organization s expectations are in high demand.
Since the employees are an asset, and the organization is expecting a return on their investment,
understanding how emotions work and how it impacts one s capacity is indispensable in
accomplishing organizational goals. In the workplace, people often have to work with each other.
So the handling of relationships and interacting with others becomes the key to the success of the
organization. Managers need to have a combination of skills and abilities such as the strength of
will, awareness of self, empathyfor others and sensitivity toward others internally and externally.
Before one can handle others emotions he/she must first learn to lead themselves. So the question
become, how is this done? Coleman s theory suggest that this can be done through emotional
intelligencewhich is the ability to create, build and maintain viable relationships (Coleman, 1998,
p. 14). No one wants to follow the leadership of a person who cannot manage his/her emotions. Let
s look together at three business CEO s personal backgrounds and use of emotional intelligence.

What is the Best Way to Keep Crawfish Alive?
Crawfish are delicious crustaceans that closely resemble lobsters. Many people consider crawfish
to be as delicious as lobsters, which is why these crustaceans are harvested all over the world. In
the U.S., crawfish are closely associated with the haute cuisine and culture of Louisiana. In fact,
crawfish are the official crustacean of the state. I normally prefer to harvest or purchase crawfish
on the day I intend to cook them. However, many people prefer to purchase and eat them later
but do not know how to keep crawfish alive in a sack or container for several days before finally
preparing and eating them. Fortunately, I will provide you with some tips on how I keep my

One of the most serious diseases that can spread in this manner is the Crawfish Plague, more
prevalent among North American species. However, the North American species are simply carriers
of the disease. This disease is caused by a fungus that is lethal to other types of crawfish including
Australian and Eurasian. Therefore, avoid putting crawfish from different continents or regions in
the same container. On the same breath, avoid sharing equipment such as nuts and buckets when
working with different types of crawfish.
Crawfish can also be affected by the White Spot Disease. Although this disease mostly affects
shrimps, it can spread to crawfish if they are fed raw food made from infected shrimp. Therefore,
make sure that all foods containing shrimp have been thoroughly cooked before feeding the
crawfish. There are times when I keep various types of crawfish in a single aquarium. However, I
usually quarantine new ones for about a month before introducing them into the main aquarium.

Spiderman Hero
Spider Man is one of my favorite heroes of all time. Spider Man was a teenager named Peter Parker
with spider like abilities. Peter visited a laboratory to see a famous doctor and was bit by a spider
that gave him superpowers. Peter was given powers such as super strength, fast reflexes and the
ability to shoot webs from his hands. There are four different movies of Spider Manfighting villains.
My favorite villain that Spider Man faced was Doctor Octopus. Doctor Octopus was an intelligent
mad scientist (Otto Octavius), who built four, powerful mechanical appendages and attached the
appendages to himself. In Spider Man 2, Doctor Octopus would rob banks so that he can buy
expensive equipment for his lab. The equipment Doctor Octopus bought resembles how much of a

Environmental Problems Of Overpopulation
As the population is growing upward of 7.6 billion people, the world is facing environmental
hardships. Since the population is growing to an unsustainable level, this issue becomes prominent
for all people. Due to the population increasing, resources such as food, water and fuel are
becoming scarce. Overpopulation, defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary, is the condition of
having a populationso dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a
population crash. There are a few causes of overpopulation, such as the declining death rate, better
developed medicine, a lack of family planning and immigration. There is a recent decline in death
rates and an increase of birth rates, a main source of the population increase. When the population
increases, so do the environmental problems it entails. In the 18th century, philosopher Thomas
Malthus predicted that overpopulation would cause the Earth to be stripped of its resources.
However, the world has mostly taken concern with the growing numbers and not the environmental
issues. The problems that come with overpopulation include global warming, species extinction and
deforestation, loss of fresh water and depletion of natural resources. Overpopulation will eventually
become the world s most eminent environmental issue because the earth will not be able to sustain
all of humanity. Throughout history, overpopulation has been seen as a threat by three major
people. First, Thomas Malthus, in

A Wireless Sensor Network usually is formed by numerous wireless sensor devices. Routing is an
important mechanism which will help the data to get forwarded to the right destination. Internet
Protocol is an important protocol which helps in routing process. Generally the nodes in a
Wireless Sensor Network are integrated and routing using IP version 4 is difficult as the address
space is limited. IP version 4 uses 32 bit addressing mechanism which is not sufficient to complete
the routing process. The other option is the use of InternetProtocol version 6. IPv6is the latest

4. SECURITY MESURES
It is essential to provide secure environment while routing data in Wireless Sensor Network. IP
version 6 provides necessary security. The length of the address is big and the header format is
completely changed. Further, IPSec is part of the protocol suite. A Quality of Service feature can
be implemented using the Flow Label field of the IPv6 header. This feature is used to provide
priority levels to the data packets. Stateless Address Auto Configuration is a feature that helps
version 6 addresses to get configured automatically when the hosts are connected to IP version 6
networks.
IP version 6 supports globally unique addresses with which the activity of every device can be
easily tracked. The elimination of NAT reduces complexity and every device using IP version 6 is
on the public network. The various transitioning techniques like Dual Stack, Tunneling and
Proxying helps in communication between both the versions of IP addresses without increasing
any kind of overhead. Considering all the mentioned factors, a proper framework needs to be
defined for secure data transmission.

Analysis Of The Book The Bible
One of my favorite stories in the bible is about Paul and Silas and how they were able to
overcome. They had a mind to be triumphant. In a dark, dismal, and hopeless situation, Paul and
Silas began to sing. I m sure that they weren t singing any of the classic or mainstream R B,

Hindu Cultural Beliefs
Abstract
This paper focuses on three different religions and their cultural values and traditions surrounding
death as well as the nursing implications regarding patients of various religious and cultural
beliefs. The Hindu religion focuses on reincarnation and assisting the dead to their next life. Their
traditions, such as placing a basil leaf, clarified butter and gold in the deceased s mouth, help their
loved one s spirit move on. The Islamic religion understands that the death is God s will and take
part in various traditions such as bathing the dead loved one. Buddhist religion focuses on

After death has occurred, a basil leaf, clarified butter, and a piece of gold are placed in the
mouth of the deceased so that the desire for wealth and food is satisfied (Gupta, 2011, p.254).
As far as disposing of the body, some people choose cremation; some choose a burial and some
even leave the body in the Ganges River. The funerals are very simple and elegant, which
represents respect for the deceased (Gupta, 2011). The behavior associated with bereavement is
very different to western culture. In India, Hindu family members are expected to cry and wail
loudly as it is considered healthy to have an outburst of strong emotions. Lack of loud wailing by
the widow and other family members of the deceased is considered pathological (Gupta, 2011, p.
255). It is the duty of the relatives and friends to console the grieving family members. (Gupta,
2011, p. 255) Demonstration of respect for the dead is done several different ways. Typically, a
large photograph of the deceased person is displayed prominently in the house, with a garland
draped over the photo and a burning incense and an oil lamp are place in front (Gupta, 2011, p.

However, small businesses must ensure that these strategies are in place in order to attract and

The personality profile is then completed by the job holder to assess strengths and weaknesses. This
is then compared with the requirements of the job and the resulting training needs identified. A
computer program is used to assess these needs based on the information inputted into the computer.
Another often used training needs analysis tool is brainstorming and Meta planning. This
diagnostic uses two techniques the first is brainstorming which involves staff putting forward their
ideas regarding the skills and knowledge that they think are appropriate and required; the second
technique is called Meta planning and this is used to allow the staff group to select and prioritize
their training needs. Developing the training plan is the third element of training and development.
For a training and development plan to be effective there must be a clear link to the business plan
and the identified training needs. The training plan should address the reason for the training and
what the intended outcomes are for both the staff and The Downtown Business Club. It should also
address the learning objectives, content, and method of delivery. Cost of the training will need to

front of the class, etc. All of these sentences are examples of stereotypes. Stereotypes as one can
conclude from the above sentences are very broad generalizations targeted towards a group of
individuals. They usually target minorities based on the habits and actions these minorities
engage in. Even though many people find stereotypes to be funny, and some individuals will
even argue that a class of stereotypes can be proven to be correct because of research, they are
nonetheless morally degrading and therefore, are not grounded in truth because of lack of
knowledge about one s culture/background, personal experiences, and the roles of research and
media in today s society. To start off the discussion on stereotypes, one must first analyze how
humans of today s society think. Ever since the dawn of civilization, humans have had the ability to
categorize things based on their looks, actions, etc. Hence one can conclude that it is human nature
to categorize different things, be it other humans. It is the society s way of making a complex
world simpler ((Division of Student Affairs)). The notion of categorization of other human beings
is programmed in a human s brain since childhood. As humans age, their tendency to categorize
different racial group as superior/inferior increases

Segregation As Depicted In The Great Debaters
The Great Debaters is a fantastic true story with insight into the world of segregation during
1935. The movie takes place in Marshall, Texas during 1935. We can see during the beginning of
the movie that there are obvious racial issues in the city because one of the main characters, James
Farmer Jr., states that Marshall, Texas was the last city to surrender after the Civil War, The movie
is about a poet and professor, Melvin B. Tolson, who teaches at the all black school called Wiley
College. He was inspired by the Harlem Renaissance decides to start a debate team, which was
very taboo for a black college to have back then. At first he butts heads with the influential father of
one of his best debaters, James Farmer Jr., but, eventually he succeeds in the formation of a great

They faced many problems across the way which included a team refusing to debate with them
because of their race, a teammate quitting last minute, lynching, mobs, Jim Crow, sexism, an

harvard team. At the end of the movie we see all the success that the team had later on in life.
Samantha became a lawyer,Samantha became a lawyer, Henry went on to study theology and
became a minister, Jr started a civil rights group, Professor Tolson became a world famous poet
and organized a union of sharecroppers and lastly, The Wiley Debate Team went 10 years

Marketing Week 1 Case Assignment Essay
Week 1: Case Assignment Case Study: Girl Scout Cookies
Questions: 1) Can you identify examples of decisions about each part of the marketing mix
(product, place, promotion, and pricing) that are being made in the cookie program? The Product
is Girl Scout cookies as well as the Girl Scouts themselves. Since 1912 Cookie sales have played a
major role in supporting the Girl Scouts organization at the council and troop levels. Being able
to target certain people can be tricky sometimes specially if you don t know what you re doing
or what your target is. You have to be able to sell yourself as well as the product and who better to
sell Girl Scout cookies then young girls. The Girl Scouts mainly target the middle and upper class ...

While each Girl Scout does not keep the income from her sales troop members see the direct
benefits of their efforts these kinds of strategies help reinforce the broader purpose of the cookie
program such as teaching girls valuable lessons in marketing and career training. The Girl Scouts
specify five essential life skills that the cookie program focuses on developing goal setting, decision
making, money, management, people skills, and business ethics. As Councils are shifting their
focuses onto better business approaches and skill development, many are hosting sales training
seminars.
3) Although some people take away clear benefits from selling Girl Scout cookies, not every
Girl Scout is going to go into a marketing career, and many might find the job of cookie selling
particularly difficult. Do you think the experience of cookie selling, and more generally the
lessons you might learn from this course about marketing and sales, can still be beneficial,
especially to someone who might find the activities challenging? The Council of Nassau
country, New York brought in professional sales trainer Jeff Goldberg, who teaches the Scouts
the same techniques he would use for any other business. Says Goldberg, Goal setting, which
was the first thing we covered. Is the first thing I cover with any group of sales people, if you don t

The Day Of Diwali Festival
Assignment#4 Leadership Diwali festival is the most celebrated event in India and Indian migrants
living in Corning and nearby town get together every year in this local community. The group is
called Southern Tier Indian Cultural Association (STICA). On October 28th, 2015, the first Diwali
event team was formed and finalizing the event date of November13th, 2015 and also decided to
have potluck dinner format for food instead catering from a restaurant. I took the lead role of
putting together food menu and incorporated suggestions received from other event team members.
I needed volunteers for contacting and distributing food menu choices to the attendees of the event.
The team members who have graciously agreed to help me were Raj Ponnusamy, Nitya
Thangasamy, Uma Janakiraman, Sudha Jayaraman, and MalarGunasekaran. The items included in
the food menu are the following: Appetizers (Masaal vadai, Kesari), Entrees (Idli, Chappathi,
Lemon rice, Sambar satham, Yogurt rice), Sides (mixed vegetable curry, potato curry, coconut
chutney, peanut chutney), and Desert (laddu, payasam, rasa malaai). It should be noted here that
there is no meat involved in any of the dishes planned, since we all follow vegetarian food during
religious events. The event team members also shared volunteering for communication (phone tree
emails), hall decorations and clean up services. The total head count of attendees was collected (60
adults and 12 children) via RSVP by phone and

Analysis Of The Poem The Wife Of King Midas
Mrs Midas Critical Commentary
The poem, Mrs Midas is written from the perspective of the wife of King Midas; a character
from Ovid s Metamorphoses . In the myth, King Midas was granted a wish where everything he
touched turned to gold. Mrs Midas is part of a tradition of the feminist revisionist writing of
mythology and fair tales. Duffy trivialises the myth by transplanting it to a modern, middle class,
suburban setting. In the poem, Duffy uses a wide range of literary devices and conveys a large
array of emotions which help to bring out the central themes of the poem.
In stanza one Duffy depicts a conventional, middle class domestic setting; where the speaker, Mrs
Midas is cooking vegetables and begins to unwind with a glass of wine . The quote, glass of wine
emphasises the middle class, suburban setting and highlights revisionist element of the poem. Duffy
writes stanzas one retrospectively, It was late September . Duffy uses this quote to set the scene but
more importantly to indicate the fact that the event has already happened. This conveys the idea
that the poem is being told as a story. In stanza one Duffy personifies the kitchen, with the line, its
steamy breath gently blanching the windows . The quote emphasises that the kitchen is coming to
life. Also the use of the simile, like a brow helps to convey the kitchen as a living thing. The word
gently is used by Duffy to contrast the frenzied events which unfold later on in the poem.

Unbeknownst to Robert and his allies, eyes were watching from the cliffs. When they cleared
the cliffs they came across what seemed to be a swamp with many rivers cut into the earth like
veins of the planet itself. I believe declared the Doctor we may find a viable sample here. It seems
the sort of place where plants would have such qualities, at least from a biological viewpoint.
I have a bad feeling about this! said Gary. The squad trapsed around, scanning their surroundings

Effects Of War In America
Costs of War in America
Has there ever been a time where a nation is unaffected after a war they were a part of? It is very
unlikely every nation that takes part in a war is effected but may not show it. America is not
immune to these effects but no one really wants to address them or resolve them. And because of
that wars around the world have affected service members, their families and the society in America
in many ways; ignorance of these effects often results in the affected from getting the help they
need. The military member are effected the most due to being the closest to the action. Many of
them spending six months a year every year overseas. One of these types of effects are the
physical effects such as fatigue, stress and jet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most well known of these effects are the economic impacts of wars. During periods of major
war, such as the World Wars, a large number of jobs open up in order to help the war effort. But
once the war is over or has slowed to a minor conflict those jobs are no longer needed and the
people working them are laid off. A solution to this problem is instead of just laying off the workers
attempt help them in transferring to a new job. Another effect is national paranoia and extreme
patriotism which is usually caused by some stories covered on the news. These stories are most
likely about a terrorist attack or news about enemy movements. The solution could be to just tell
about the event instead of over glorifying it. Another problem is that wars help to taint
Americans view of other nations and religions. For example terrorism has put in the heads of a
majority of Americans that all Muslims are terrorists which is not true most Muslims do not
condone of the actions of Muslim extremists. A possible solution is to educate people on the
difference between extremists and regular followers of a faith. Another problem is the love hate
relation with the military which became a major occurrence during the Vietnam War where
soldiers returning home would be called baby killers and treated with disrespect. Most soldiers
would refuse to wear their uniforms on their way back home to avoid the ridicule. The people
mainly did this because parts of the Vietnam War were televised and one of the stories showed
soldiers burning down a village but gave no context as to why. Another reason why there is a
love hate relation with the military is because the people do not know what a job in the military
entails. A way to resolve this could be to show more of soldiers helping people and not put the
focus on what the military has done wrong. Then there is the problem of a large amount of

Comparing The Seafarer And The Wanderer
Looking at these two poems considered to be sister poems I have found distinct similarities and
differences. In The Seafarer, an old man is reflecting upon his life as a sailor. He described his
personal burdens of being on sea but he does find beauty in it. But as in The Wanderer, a warrior
is upon the ocean searching for comfort as he mourns the loss of his loved ones and society. It is
well understood that they have the feeling of loneliness in common as well as the importance in
sharing a connection with God. But there are differences as well, such as The Wandereris repining
and The Seafarer is looking back on the times he now sees as desirable. Yet as reading these
poems, I have found more similarities than differences.
First, a similar connection these two poems share is the theme of loneliness. In The Seafarer it
said, No kinsman could offer comfort there, to a soul left drowning in desolation (Seafarer, 25 25).
By his description of drowning in desolation, it could be interpreted as suffocating with devastation,
no one can soothe his lonely soul. Corresponding to The Wanderer, My heart has closed on itself,

was, drifting through winter on an ice cold sea, whirled in sorrow, alone in a world blown clear

to the sea despite his misery. In The Wanderer the narrator is blackened, talking about how he is in
need of benefaction, Grey with mourning. Once there were men to whom my heart could hurry,
not with open longing. They re long since dead (Wanderer 9 11). The Wanderer witnessed
destruction through his life and is in deep sorrow thinking about it whereas The Seafarer is

Essay History of the National Health Service
History of the National Health Service The purpose of this essay is to outline the history of the
National Health Service and why it was introduced into the everyday lives of the British people.
As the NHS is a major factor of the welfare given to the people of Britain, we must look at the
early years of the Welfare laws and acts passed down through the centuries, which eventually lead
to the creation of the NHS. The first welfare reforms were known as the Poor Laws , which had
their beginnings in the Elizabethan era. In 1601 the first Poor Laws were passed which basically
put each parish in charge of doling out relief to the parish poor. In theory these new laws should
have been sufficient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These improvements meant that people started to live longer. However for the extremely poor
there was still no safety net to help them in old age and meant that medical treatment was not
affordable to them at any cost. Even in a poor house or infirmary, medical treatment was crude
and basic and more often than not the patient still died with no cure for their ailments. In 1906
the Liberals swept into power as the ruling Government, and they introduced a means tested old
age pension for persons aged seventy years old or above (at this time the average life expectancy
for men was around 48 years old). By 1911 a basic national health and unemployment insurance act
was passed with contributions laid down by Parliament, with friendly societies and mutually owned
bodies operating the health schemes. During this time and into the twenties, municipal hospitals
were set up and they dealt with treatment for the poor or low income population, upper classes
could afford to pay for their own treatment and were generally excluded from using the municipal
hospital facilities. These hospitals grew in number and by the end of the thirties there were roughly
1750 municipal hospitals in England and Wales, and these provided training facilities for both
Nurses and Doctors. As the facilities got

Lords of War Simulation
The Lords of War Simulation is best described by the neo liberalist theory. Neo liberalism best
describes this game because it supports the ideology that everything humans do is in their own
self interest. The theory also believes that people only cooperate with each other out of fear;
actions of people playing Lords of War validate this theory. To succeed, neo liberals need
cooperation, institutions to mediate, as well as a fear of being defected on. Neo liberals do not
feel that humans are good in nature, but will argue that they have the capacity to bond together for
the greater good, for their own personal benefit.
By definition neo liberalism is a reinterpretation of liberalism that posits that even in an anarchic

North Korea is acting in its own self interest because as long as they agree to not threaten countries
with their new technology, they will receive many necessities for their country.
Other theorists would try and say that in the Lords of War simulation, people were only going to
do what would make them the most powerful, and realist would say that all of the participants
would have defected even with the institutions; and even though some people still defected, the
majority did cooperated. Realists would also say that a security dilemma would have occurred,
and people would have tried to make allies to only help themselves, whereas people cooperated
out of fear of losing trust, thus making them an opponent to be defected on consistently.
Constructivists would argue that people shared a sense of identity and norms, but this game
proved that there was no collective identity or norms to be shared. People just played the game in
accordance to their own wants, needs and personal beliefs. And the liberals would argue that
people are genuinely good and will come together to act in the best nature for all. This game has
proven that the intent and nature of humans is not genuinely good, and people do not cooperate
because it is the right thing to do, they cooperate out of fear that

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Paper
Solution focused brief therapy was originally formed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg
(Corey, 2013). However, in the 1980s, Steve de Shazer joined forces with other therapists because
of he was not satisfied with the strategic model. Solution focused brief therapy focuses on solutions
instead of problems during the therapeutic session. Just like the title, solution focused brief therapy,
is considerably brief. In this paper, I will talk about the solution focused brief therapy techniques
that I will use in my work setting.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy Techniques in My Work Setting
Pretherapy Change Pretherapy change would be very valuable in my work setting as a counselor.
Setting up an appointment with a counselor can promote positive change (Corey, 2013). During
the first initial therapy session, I would ask the client if they have experienced any change from
the time they called me for an appointment, until the first session. From this, I can see if the client
has had any positive changes. If so, this will help my client rely less on me as a counselor and rely
more solely on their own capabilities to help with treatment goals. Furthermore, I would like to
incorporate exception questions into my work setting.
Exception Questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These so called times in a client s life are called exceptions. I would ask my client exception
questions, so that I can direct them to a time when the problem was not present. This technique
would be beneficial to my clients because they can understand that the problems they have now,
have not existed forever. I will help my clients understand and identify their exceptions, which will
increase the chances of a solution. This will promote even more positive change in my clients.
Therefore, I will add another technique to my

Theatre Critique Of Friday Night Cafe s The Yellow Wallpaper
Theatre Critique of Tuesday Night CafГ© s The Yellow Wallpaper
Even before taking their seats in the theatre the audience is transported into the constraining and
chaotic mind of our protagonist, Jane. Jane has been locked in in a room with yellow wallpaper by
her husband as treatment for her hysteria. Her hysteria is played by a nameless character beside her.
In combination with symbolic blocking, the set and dГ©cor of this production create the perfect
environment to capture the inner turmoil of Jane and her relationship with the madness.
One expects when walking past the doors of a theatre to encounter a stage and perhaps someplace to
sit. However, when walking through the theatre doors one is confronted by a fabric wall and a
dark hallway created by hanging pieces of yellow curtains and blankets stitched together with
visible seams and patterns overlapping haphazardly. The people you saw enter before you
disappear and you re confronted by the question of where to go next. You walk along the dark
makeshift hallway until you find an open wooden door, through which you finally see the stage
and realize that you were only a few feet away from it the entire time. This makes up the audience s
first interaction with the The Yellow Wallpaper.
This design choice was a seamless way to draw audiences into the story and the mindset of the
characters within the play. In surrounding the stage and audience with the yellow wallpaper the
theatre experience becomes more intimate.

Disadvantages Of Special Needs Trust
Special Needs Trust (SNTs)
When are Special Needs Trusts used?
SNT A Special Needs Trust is set up for a person who receives government benefits so it doesn t
disqualify the beneficiary from said benefits, such as Social Security Income or Food Stamps/Cash
Assistance. This is completely legal and permitted under the Social Security rules provided that the
disabled beneficiary cannot control the amount or the frequency of trust distributions and they
cannot revoke the trust. By establishing a trust, which provides luxuries or other benefits which
otherwise could not be obtained by the beneficiary, the beneficiary can obtain benefits from the
trust without defeating his or her eligibility for government benefits.
Usually a special needs trust has a provision which terminates the trust if it could be used to make
the beneficiary ineligible for government benefits.
ABLE Act Accounts Taxadvantage savings accounts for individuals with disabilities and their
families. Created since the passing of the Stephen Beck Jr., Achieving a Better Life Experience Act
of 2014. Contributions to an ABLE Act account are not tax deductible, but all investment earnings
remain untaxed as long as money taken from the account is used for qualified disability expenses.
Such as, medical treatment.

Probable Cause Tillian Stokeling November 10, 2010 Criminal Procedures Mid Term Probable cause does not rise to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt but must be beyond a mere hunch or guess. The legal standard to a probable cause arrest is when an officer finds evidence during a valid stop and frisk search that confirms the reasonable suspicion of an officer that a crime has been or is being committed and would lead to the arrest of and offender. There are a variety of sources to establish probable cause and they are personally observed facts by an officer, information received from an informant. The defense case in chief must mount a defense that either demolishes the prosecutor s case or, at a bare minimum, creates reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. A defendant has no burden of proofs in any criminal case and can still prevail without introducing any evidence with the exception of affirmative defenses. Based on the Fifth Amendment the defendant may choose not to testify to avoid self incrimination. The defense counsel also calls defense witnesses for direct examination. Defense testimony may also include expert witnesses who have special training and qualifications and are permitted to offer opinions. If an officer has some suspicion of criminality of a person they are allowed to do a limited stop and frisk of the individual just for the safety of the officer. The Terry, courts have adapted the stop and frisk rationale to situations involving automobiles and airport detentions. A reasonable level of force may be used to effectuate the stop if the individual proves resistance. A Victim is a person that just takes whatever life gives them. A Creator creates whatever the outcome may be. In school, people tend to play the victim a lot and very little they play the creator. I think these two students I will tell you about implement victimand creator quite accurately. In his teaching blog Professor. David Mirman, he states what to do to be a successful college student and overall person. He states that he wanted his class to get a certain textbook from the school store and many had the book way before had to be prepared for the first day of class, as they were. With increased standardized testing and rigid federal and state requirements, most elementary students are now spending more time in the classroom than outside playing. Most schools seem to think that recess is unimportant or a waste of time that is not needed in a childs education. This is a very untrue statement, in fact recess is not only good for our health but it has also had positive effects on childrens everyday learning. But the people running the school wouldn t notice a difference. Even though school staff are trying to improve the amount of learning endured during the day, they are actually decreasing the quality of work by taking away recess. Most school officials are unaware of the importance of recess. Though the effects of recces on kindergarteners and first graders are not very significant, as they get older signs of change become more and more relevant whether its during testing or just paying attention during class. Teachers may notice the difference but they may not know the causes of this lack of focus. Speaking in support of more recess principal Angela Long said, We find that we spend less time in the classroom redirecting off task behavior. So, kids are going to take recess whether it s in the class or outside so we just give it to them, (Long). She is saying recess is essential to kids. Forced prostitution is a global problem but is more prevalent in poorer countries (True, 2013). Victims of prostitution affect women and children of all ages (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). The sex industry thrives making billions of dollars and is funded by investors, crooked recruiters, and even corrupt government employees (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). • 8. On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian... Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson as being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess and Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were viewed at this juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54), it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the... While the Duke of Ferrara never explicitly verbalizes the Duchess fate, it is strongly implied that she died as a result of her inability to conform to his model of appropriate behaviour: And if she let Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse E en then would be some stooping; and I choose Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt, Whene er I passed her; but who passed without Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands; Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands As if alive (Browning, My Last Duchess, lines 39 47) Thus the Duchess is bound to the Duke and has become imprisoned within his art collection as nothing more than a possession. The Duke exemplifies this view when he makes reference to another piece of his art collection, as if the current and previous subjects of his monologue were completely analogous, Notice Neptune, though/ Taming a sea horse, thought a rarity/ Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me! (Browning 54 56), he truly appreciates both pieces with similar enthusiasm. Although the Duchess is allocated no space to give her side of the story, through the Duke s depiction the reader can infer that she was killed for having her own free will and as such there is zero doubt that she is a victim of imprisonment of the Duke s egocentric ideals. • 9. Reflection Paper On Why I Want To Be A Lawyer Lawyers are often portrayed as invidious, rigid, and odious in media, as well attract an uneasy feeling in most individuals when brought up in conversation. Frequently they are at the punchline of jokes insulting their quirks. The obvious question is why would anyone want to be an attorney? In my case, I get a lot of influence from my mother who was a lawyer for twenty years. I was very proud to tell people my mom was a practicing attorney, even more so today knowing she often defended those that were unable to pay for alternative council. Another reason is I enjoy history, even when it is upsetting to learn about. My reasoning is it gives me perspective on my own life, as well as giving me hope that through this new perspective I can reflect and make a positive impact on lives including my own. I look at cases like Brown v. Board of Education and it inspires me that perhaps I could make a difference on society through the courtroom. Lastly although I may not illustrate in my classroom demeanor that I enjoy speaking in public, but when prepared I enjoy the feeling of attempting to captivate others from my speech to bend them or lean them towards my way of thinking. This isn t to say I am incapable of breaking away from opinions I have formed over the years quite the contrary, I learn the most when I listen to others speak. With regard to my mom Patricia Wengert, I draw a lot of inspiration from her to become an attorney. When she was 16 years old she became pregnant with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Failure of Northern Rock in the Light of Banking Economics and Regulation Introduction Increasing global connectivity and integration in today s world ensures that almost any serious problem has worldwide ramifications. The global financial system can serve as a key example of this phenomenon. Very recently, Britain s fifth largest mortgage lender Northern Rock was rescued by emergency funding from the Bank of England. This made the Newcastle based firm the highest profile UK victim of the global credit crunch that had been triggered by the sub prime mortgage crisis in the US. The bank run on Northern Rock that followed was unprecedented in recent UK monetary history. The Overend Guerney crash of 1866 was the last recorded bank run... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crisis broke in August when French bank BNP Paribas suspended three of its investment funds with exposures to the troubled US sub prime market. Since it was believed that many banks had invested in similar securities, many banks felt that they did not know enough about the solvency of the banks to which they may lend to and how much losses they had suffered as a result of their exposures in the impaired US mortgage market. Subsequently, the lending on the inter bank market came to a halt. Northern Rock s Business Model Although all banks were facing greater than normal difficulties in acquiring funds given the lack of credit that was available on the global institutional debt markets, Northern Rock was hit harder than most. Its core business was, and still is, residential mortgage lending. Northern Rock was the biggest provider of mortgages in the UK in the first half of 2007. It sold up to 19% of all new mortgage policies during that time. However, it had a comparatively smaller deposit base meaning that most of its funding came from sources besides deposits from ordinary retail customers. Famously, seventy five percent of its funding came from the wholesale money markets and just twenty five percent from retail funding. Additionally, like many other banks, Northern Rock extensively engaged in packaging many of its mortgage assets into special purpose companies and raised funds in the wholesale market by ... I was and I still am a single mother of three boys, Tunji (my oldest), Jaylon and Jaleel (my twins). This has and is a fulltime job, but I am not going to speak about the present, only my past life of raising my three sons. I have always worked but there was a time that I had to stop working in order to focus on my twins. I knew from the age of 1 year old, something just wasn t quite right with their behavior and cognitive development was lacking in a lot of areas. For example; not talking, just babbling and pointing at objects, loud noises caused them to shut down and cover their ears, lining up objects and any little disturbance in their routine caused them to have a tantrum or screaming fit. It was so hard trying to get answers from doctors, their favorite thing to say to me was it s a twin thing they will grow out of it. This was the beginning of a long hard road. The three most enjoyable things that I liked about this job is: Investigating, finding out what was wrong with my sons? Why are they behaving in this manner? I was relentless in finding out and I didn t stop until I received all the right answers. I finally started getting answers, first I found out that they had a sleeping disorder, so they was put on sleeping pills, my thought was YES, I will know get sleep! The topic of abortion is quite a controversial one, many people are both for and against the motion: Should abortion be legal in the U.S.? . The main arguments for this topic are You are taking a child s life when aborting. but others may say Women deserve the right to their own health decisions. Many people are also in the grey spot with this topic, many believe under certain circumstances such as medical complications, that abortion should be legal.According to Truthout abortion has existed for nearly four thousand years (About 1983 bc), Instructions for an abortion even appear in the Bible. In Numbers 5:11 31, God is said to tell Moses about The Test for an Unfaithful Wife , a drink given to a woman accused by her husband of unfaithfulness. Any unfaithful woman would miscarry the unborn fetus and any faithful woman would be left unharmed. In the 1600s enslaved women would take measures to abort fetuses. This happened in a time when women were commonly raped by slave owners. Colonial women often conducted the abortions, using the savin from the juniper bush, pennyroyal, tansy, ergot, and seneca snakeroot to terminate pregnancies. In the US women have been terminating pregnancies since colonists first arrived here. Abortion was first outlawed in connecticut in 1821, the first state to outlaw abortion. • 13. Of Humanity In The Novel And Quentin Tarantino s Pulp... Textual form has changed throughout time to reflect different ideals, values and notions of human ontology in a world seemingly void of meaning. Throughout the 20th centaury, post modern artists have disrupted traditional paradigms of thinking that have governed our lives and forged out perceptions of selfhood and linear time. Emerging from the horror of world war II as well as the emptiness that accompanied it, composers were forced to contemplate upon the very meaning of human existence. And although composers since this time have varied with context, perspective and purpose, the continued struggle to reason for humanities existence remains as an undercurrent in all texts. This search for meaning, which has been explored by several composers, has manifested into, and is representative of the directionless state of humanity, and struggle in identifying our own identities. Thus, texts of the postmodern era expose and question the unstable ontological grounds that humanity is founded upon. Jean Luc Godard French New WaveFilm, A Bout De Souffle (1960) questions whether our existence is validated by self, or recognition from others. Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse 5 (1972) uses a non linear plot to communicate how we are forever incarnated in the human figure to learn and to grow. Conversely, Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction (1994) represents the interconnectedness and solidarity humanity, while Barry Jenkin s film, Moonlight (2016) raises existential questions about the ... After death has occurred, a basil leaf, clarified butter, and a piece of gold are placed in the mouth of the deceased so that the desire for wealth and food is satisfied (Gupta, 2011, p.254). As far as disposing of the body, some people choose cremation; some choose a burial and some even leave the body in the Ganges River. The funerals are very simple and elegant, which represents respect for the deceased (Gupta, 2011). The behavior associated with bereavement is very different to western culture. In India, Hindu family members are expected to cry and wail loudly as it is considered healthy to have an outburst of strong emotions. Lack of loud wailing by the widow and other family members of the deceased is considered pathological (Gupta, 2011, p. 255). It is the duty of the relatives and friends to console the grieving family members. (Gupta, 2011, p. 255) Demonstration of respect for the dead is done several different ways. • 41. The Prevelence and Influences of Stereotypes Almost everyone has heard phrases such as blondes are dumb, Canadians live in igloos, females are better drivers than males, students who do well in school are nerds and always sit in the front of the class, etc. All of these sentences are examples of stereotypes. Stereotypes as one can conclude from the above sentences are very broad generalizations targeted towards a group of individuals. They usually target minorities based on the habits and actions these minorities engage in. Even though many people find stereotypes to be funny, and some individuals will even argue that a class of stereotypes can be proven to be correct because of research, they are nonetheless morally degrading and therefore, are not grounded in truth because of lack of knowledge about one s culture/background, personal experiences, and the roles of research and media in today s society. To start off the discussion on stereotypes, one must first analyze how humans of today s society think. Ever since the dawn of civilization, humans have had the ability to categorize things based on their looks, actions, etc. Hence one can conclude that it is human nature to categorize different things, be it other humans. It is the society s way of making a complex world simpler ((Division of Student Affairs)). The notion of categorization of other human beings is programmed in a human s brain since childhood. • 45. Analysis Of The Poem The Wife Of King Midas Mrs Midas Critical Commentary The poem, Mrs Midas is written from the perspective of the wife of King Midas; a character from Ovid s Metamorphoses . In the myth, King Midas was granted a wish where everything he touched turned to gold. Mrs Midas is part of a tradition of the feminist revisionist writing of mythology and fair tales. Duffy trivialises the myth by transplanting it to a modern, middle class, suburban setting. In the poem, Duffy uses a wide range of literary devices and conveys a large array of emotions which help to bring out the central themes of the poem. In stanza one Duffy depicts a conventional, middle class domestic setting; where the speaker, Mrs Midas is cooking vegetables and begins to unwind with a glass of wine . The quote, glass of wine emphasises the middle class, suburban setting and highlights revisionist element of the poem. Duffy writes stanzas one retrospectively, It was late September . Duffy uses this quote to set the scene but more importantly to indicate the fact that the event has already happened. This conveys the idea that the poem is being told as a story. In stanza one Duffy personifies the kitchen, with the line, its steamy breath gently blanching the windows . The quote emphasises that the kitchen is coming to life. Also the use of the simile, like a brow helps to convey the kitchen as a living thing. The word gently is used by Duffy to contrast the frenzied events which unfold later on in the poem. The most well known of these effects are the economic impacts of wars. During periods of major war, such as the World Wars, a large number of jobs open up in order to help the war effort. But once the war is over or has slowed to a minor conflict those jobs are no longer needed and the people working them are laid off. A solution to this problem is instead of just laying off the workers attempt help them in transferring to a new job. Another effect is national paranoia and extreme patriotism which is usually caused by some stories covered on the news. These stories are most likely about a terrorist attack or news about enemy movements. The solution could be to just tell about the event instead of over glorifying it. Another problem is that wars help to taint Americans view of other nations and religions. For example terrorism has put in the heads of a majority of Americans that all Muslims are terrorists which is not true most Muslims do not condone of the actions of Muslim extremists. A possible solution is to educate people on the difference between extremists and regular followers of a faith. Another problem is the love hate relation with the military which became a major occurrence during the Vietnam War where soldiers returning home would be called baby killers and treated with disrespect. Most soldiers would refuse to wear their uniforms on their way back home to avoid the ridicule. The people mainly did this because parts of the Vietnam War were televised and one of the stories showed soldiers burning down a village but gave no context as to why. Another reason why there is a love hate relation with the military is because the people do not know what a job in the military entails. A way to resolve this could be to show more of soldiers helping people and not put the focus on what the military has done wrong. Then there is the problem of a large amount of ... In The Seafarer, an old man is reflecting upon his life as a sailor. He described his personal burdens of being on sea but he does find beauty in it. But as in The Wanderer, a warrior is upon the ocean searching for comfort as he mourns the loss of his loved ones and society. It is well understood that they have the feeling of loneliness in common as well as the importance in sharing a connection with God. But there are differences as well, such as The Wandereris repining and The Seafarer is looking back on the times he now sees as desirable. Yet as reading these poems, I have found more similarities than differences. First, a similar connection these two poems share is the theme of loneliness. In The Seafarer it said, No kinsman could offer comfort there, to a soul left drowning in desolation (Seafarer, 25 25). By his description of drowning in desolation, it could be interpreted as suffocating with devastation, no one can soothe his lonely soul. In 1906 the Liberals swept into power as the ruling Government, and they introduced a means tested old age pension for persons aged seventy years old or above (at this time the average life expectancy for men was around 48 years old). By 1911 a basic national health and unemployment insurance act was passed with contributions laid down by Parliament, with friendly societies and mutually owned bodies operating the health schemes. Theatre Critique Of Friday Night Cafe s The Yellow Wallpaper Theatre Critique of Tuesday Night CafГ© s The Yellow Wallpaper Even before taking their seats in the theatre the audience is transported into the constraining and chaotic mind of our protagonist, Jane. Jane has been locked in in a room with yellow wallpaper by her husband as treatment for her hysteria. Her hysteria is played by a nameless character beside her. In combination with symbolic blocking, the set and dГ©cor of this production create the perfect environment to capture the inner turmoil of Jane and her relationship with the madness.
