Nt1310 Unit 5 Administrative Tools
MMC is one of the main Administrative Tools used to manage Windows and the network services it
provides. It provides a standard way to create, save, and open the various Administrative Tools
provided by Windows. When you open the Administrative Tools folder in Control Panel, most of the
programs are MMC.
MMC has a console tree that displays the hierarchical arrangement of snap ins and extensions. Snap
ins are also called pluggable modules and an extension is a snap in that needs a parent snap in. By
modifying (adding and deleting) snap ins and extensions, users can customize the console or access
tools that are not placed in the Administrative Tools folder.
You can add snap ins to a MMC by clicking File Add/Remove Snap in.

How does comparative material from the ancient Near East help us understand Genesis 1 22?
Several comparative material has been found from the ancient Near East which have many similarities
with the Genesis 1 22 bible narratives such as the creation, flood and patriarchal narratives ? Ugarit
and Ebla.[footnoteRef:1] Many scholars have argued on the implication of the similarities in the
Genesis flood story with Noah and the flood epic that was told in Mesopotamia ? Gilgamesh.

creation story.[footnoteRef:5] They suggest several similarities and differences in the flood epic
narrative from ancient Mesopotamia and the Genesis narrative[footnoteRef:6] and have attempted to
make comparisons between the flood stories in Gilgamesh and Genesis on ?literary grounds?, in terms
of flood traditions in both the Hebrew tradition and the Mesopotamian tradition. [4: W. G. Lambert, ?
A NEW LOOK AT THE BABYLONIAN BACKGROUND OF GENESIS,? The Journal of
Theological Studies 16, no. 2 (1965): 101.] [5: W. G. A. R. MILLARD LAMBERT, Atra Hasis: The
Babylonian Story of the Flood. With The Sumerian Flood Story by M. Civil (Oxford Clarendon Press,
1970), 101.] [6: Ibid., 25?27.]
K.A. Kitchen names nine differences and seven similarities in the two traditions. The two narratives
claim that the decision to send the flood as punishment was divine (made by deity); a chosen person
(man) is instructed to save himself and his family, together with living animals and to do this he is
asked to build an ark (boat); the flood destroys everyone else on the earth. The boat eventually rests on
a mountain and the birds are sent out off the boat to see if there is any land that is habitable. The
chosen man eventually sacrifices to the divine and humanity is renewed on the earth.[footnoteRef:7]
For Kitchen, the differences are that in the Genesis narrative, deity (God) observes the wickedness that
was done by the humans on the earth

What Is My Favorite Pond Essay
This unbelievable area is my favorite place to be. I can go and get out of the big, bad world. It is when
I can be myself, also where no one can bother me. This place is my pond, it has been here ever since I
can remember, and the pond is a dark, green color when the sun is not hitting it. When the sun does hit
the water, it changes to a lighter color in some spots. This pond has been the place to go, when I am
feeling excited, sad, or agitated. The pond has always been there for me. That pond is not just a place
to catch fish, it is my second home, my childhood, and my safe place.
I do not live in the pond; however, it is like home to me, because I know where everything is in the
pond. On the top left hand corner of the pond, is where all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I was a kid, we would do a lot of things there. Every day, starting in the spring, my grandma,
Ruby, and I would go fishing to relax. There is one part of the pond where there is not any fish we call
this the dead zone. We would sit at the dead zone to relax, and have no one or fish to bother us. We
would fish until dusk even if we were not catching anything, we still just had fun just sitting there
waiting for a bite. Around the age of thirteen, I would sneak out late at night to go to the pond. The
moon would reflect off the water so beautifully. The fireflies would light up all around the pond. If I
had a bad dream that would wake me up or could not sleep. I would go to the pond, sit by the bank,
and stare up at the stars. A majority of my time, day or night, I would be found at the pond.
However, when I need a place to relax, clam down, or clear my head. You could find me at the pond. I
would go sit on the bank of the pond and watch the fish swim by. This is a quiet, relaxing, and
peaceful place to be where no one can bother me. Whenever I would feel sad, I would grab my fishing
rod, tackle box, and a drink and head over to the pond. I would bait a hook, cast, and sit there and wait
until I caught something. After a while, I would forget about what I was upset about. When I needed a

Universal Health Care Reform
Health care is a very expensive issue here in the United Sates and the current system is not sustainable
at its current state. Republicans for the last 8 years have tried to replace the current system (ACA)
with a more cost effective one, but this has been a daunting task.
Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of human and health services. The Trump administration
was able to finally elect one of the leading figures in the opposition of Obamacare. The political
landscape has changed a lot since this confirmation and the uncertainty of the repeal has led to the
possibility of more progressive ideas. One of those ideas that has emerged is universal health care as
third a third way among voters in both parties. The GOP opposes this option, ... Show more content on

In a CNN debate with Ted Cruz, Sanders brought up questions regarding the current system and
wondered why we continue to rely on premiums and why we continue to enrich insurers that are
unreliable. Although, Sanders is a representative of liberal and progressive ideas this idea of universal
health is becoming more mainstream with democratic and Republican voters. In a recent Pew poll, the
survey showed that 60 percent of respondents believed that the government should be responsible of
the coverage of all Americans. Other polls showed that low income Republicans have shown support
for universal health care and this comes as an opportunity for politicians in both parties. From a
Republican standpoint, this would complete the promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare and it
would also solve the problem of the disastrous exchange system. This idea may be too liberal for most
Republican politicians as it goes against party lines, but strong support from the democrats and their
constituents could alter some of the positions of Republican politicians.
Democrats have less of a political risk in embracing universal health care as it is in line with liberal
ideology. This is very important as democrats can run as challengers to the incumbent Republicans
and seek to unseat them under the premise of Medicare coverage for everyone. This would also put
pressure on Republicans to move further to the center of the political spectra as the fear of losing votes
materializes from the massive effects of a complete

Cheating Is Cheating
Cheating Is Getting Worse Cheating is a problem worldwide, everyone can admit they ve cheated
before or at least say they ve witnessed someone cheat before. The term cheating can be interpreted in
different ways, according to (Webster s Dictionary) cheating has several meanings a deception to
profit yourself , not faithful to a spouse or lover and violating accepted standards or rules . People
have been caught red handed while cheating, while others were lucky enough to avoid the
consequences. The real question is why do people take the risk and decide to cheat knowing that there
is a consequence? Cheating is an epidemic spread that is becoming worse, it s becoming worse in
schools, sports and relationships.
Today s generation has been showing the highest test scores, students have received all kinds of
honors which include scholarships. In 2009, 60 schools had been reported to the Pennsylvania of
Education of suspicion of cheating (New Orleans Magazine). They were reported of getting nearly
practically impossible test scores. Not only are students accused of cheating but the teachers
themselves are accused of cheating. Some atlanta teachers were interviewed according to (New
Orleans Magazine) Atlanta teachers said they cheated because they were afraid of losing their jobs .
Not only that 56 schools were investigated, 44 of them had participated in organized cheating on
standardized tests (New Orleans Magazine). Teachers changed answers on student s tests and
determined if the students would be bumped up a grade. Students that often cheat are driven by an
incentive to earn or obtain undeserved grades. Most students cheat to achieve a specific goal whether
it s a degree or some kind of certificate. Students have a bad mindset which causes procrastination,
perhaps one day a student would be out partying or keeping themselves busy knowing they had
homework to do. Later when it comes to the last minute they just need a quick response so they rely
on cheating. With today s technology you can get almost anything over the internet. The use of the
internet can provide several assignments for a student including essays. This is rather known as
plagiarism or otherwise cheating, a student could look up a

Procedural Due Process Analysis
Under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, citizens are protected from national and state
governments denying them their life, liberty or property without due process of the law and have a
right to some form of trial or hearing. (Magleby, O Brien, Light, Peltason, Cronin, 2008., p. 470)
Though the Supreme Court has refused multiple times to define due process conclusively saying
instead that due process, is not a technical conception with a fixed content unrelated to time, place,
and circumstances, but due process relates to the rules and regulations that restrain how the
government exercises power. (Magleby, et al., 2008., p. 470) However, not everyone agrees what

The Negativity Of The American Education System
The Negativity of the American Education System The American Education System is not meeting the
needs of current students. If anything, the system is not building a sturdy foundation for the future
working class. Schools have existed for many years and every period they have worked differently.
However, every school s main purpose was to educate students to be efficacious later in life. Modern
day schools are corrupting students with added pressure, standardized tests, making less
accommodations for special education students, not following laws, and take away individualism from
the students . The students of modern times are the people of our future and the future does not look
too bright with the current American Education System. On the other hand, there is an argument that
the education system provides positive qualities. Some students are actually improving in the
classroom and on standardized tests. In her book, Christina Fisanick found that In Wisconsin, 87
percent of third graders were reading at grade level or above. This number was an all time high, and a
13 percent increase over 2002 scores (Fisanick, 17). Success for all is one of many purposes that come
from the educational system. An education reform named No Child Left Behind signed in January of
2002 was to make sure all students were given the chance to improve. In other words, this act made
educators work even harder to make sure all students were moving on and that no child was being left

Waiting For The Barbarians Essay
Waiting for the Barbarians is a novel by John Maxwell Coetzee that tells the story of a colonialist
regime settled in an ambiguous part of the world. The story follows a civil servant, a Magistrate, as he
struggles to balance his duties and his morals when rumors swirl around the empire about the
barbarians planning an offensive. To investigate, a colonel named Joll is sent by a secret faction of the
police to investigate. While the Magistrate believes the rumors to be false, as he had been living at his
outpost for years in peace, Joll, unconvinced and ready to do his job, decides to interrogate the
barbarians in ways the Magistrate finds horrifying, and often leading to false information fabricated

this is a perfect representation of how one can be turned into the other, (or in this case the barbarian ).

appropriate attire. With the scars, both physical and emotional, inflicted to her by Joll, she could now

him on page 120 (even as he takes back his post at the very end of the book). On the other hand, this
pushes him to question whether he is as evil or monstrous as Joll and the many others working for the
empire. However, his true

Penney s Five Forces Theory Essay
This paper will cover different sections of the J.C. Penney Corporation. This paper will also discuss
Michael Porter s five forces theory, and what the theory represents. In the discussion of the five forces
theory, it will be broken down and explain in the following section how it impacts J.C. Penney. Each
force will be explained first, and then how it is relative to the company after. This paper will cover
J.C. Penney s financial reports, as well as what separates J.C. Penney from its competitors.
Introduction to Porter Five Forces Michael Eugene Porter is an economist, author, advisor and a
researcher. He is the creator of Porter Five Forces theory, which is a framework for a business. The
model identifies and analyzes five competitive forces that shape every industry, and helps determine
an industry s weaknesses and strengths (Investopedia LLC, 2016). The five forces are competitive
rivalry, bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, threat of new entry, and threat of
substitution. This is a very important theory which a business can strengthen their position.

Linguistics and Dialects in Japanese Essays
In a language, there are usually variants that emerge from it variants such as dialects or different
colloquial phrases. This usually happens when the language is split across different parts of the
country or world. Different living situations call for different phrases or different ways of expressing
that idea. In Japanese, these different dialects are known as hougen. There are several different
Japanese hougen comprising that of the Tokyo area, the Tohoku region, the Kansai region, and even
the Kyushu area to name a few places. Also within each certain areas, there may also be variants of

Two of the most common features of Tohoku dialect are drawing out vowels sounds which make them
sound longer. They also change consonant sounds. For example, the k sound becomes a g sound. And
sometimes Tohoku speakers add an extra sound before the start of some words like inserting an n
before g to make it ng. These features lead Tokyo people to generally consider it a lazy, country way
of speaking. The accent also carries the stereotype of laziness or clumsiness, as Tohoku speakers are
known for slurring and not opening their mouths very much. The rather negative nickname for the
dialect is zuuzuu ben, zuuzuu being the sound that a Kanto speaker hears when a Tohoku speaker
neutralizes and drags their vowels. Because of the negative stereotypes, when speaking with Tokyo
speakers, Tohoku speakers tend to hide their accents and speak in Tokyo dialect. The accent only
shows up when talking to family or when stressed.
Western Japan Kansai, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukui (Phrases, changes from standard, ) Kansai includes
Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and surrounding areas. To speakers of standard Japanese, Osaka sounds either
charming and funny, or grating and obnoxious. There s a sort of Tokyo Osaka rivalry and both areas
have great pride in their way of speaking.
Kansai people generally change the way they talk when they move to Tokyo, except for times when
they want to be charming or show their Kansai pride. This is the dialect spoken by comedians (many

The Period Of Ancient Greece
The Hellenistic Age was a period of ancient Greece lasting between 323 B.C after the death of
Alexander the Great and 30 B.C the beginning of the Roman Empire. Alexander was determined to
conquer unknown lands and his expedition provided a bridge between city states and the Greek
Hellenistic World. The Hellenistic World is what resulted from the disintegrated empire that came
short after Alexanders death. Four major Hellenistic kingdoms emerged from the successors of
Alexander. The Greeks and easterners made notable accomplishments during this period of
experiments, novelties and individualism which influenced the Roman culture. The Hellenistic
kingdoms shared much in common with their Greek past. Although they had a democratic form of
government it forced Greeks of the Hellenistic Age to accept monarchy, which they hated. For large
cities such as Seleucid, monarchism suited well. This establishment by Seleucus covered much of
Asia. The city of Pregamum later emerged by freeing itself from Seleucid and was under the Attalid
dynasty. Antigonus established the Antigonid dynasty as ruler of Macedonia, and Ptolemy established
himself as king of Egypt, founding the Ptolemaic dynasty of pharaohs. Not long after the four major
kingdoms were established challenges appeared from internal conflicts and external enemies.
Although they inherited the most lethal military system in the world from Alexander and Philip, these
wars required murderous weapons and machinery. Massive siege

Revolutionary Archetype
In both literature and the waking world, the idea of a revolutionary figure has always been one of
wonder and intrigue. It is no coincidence that authors continuously weave revolutionary characters
into their stories to both entice readers and give them a sense of realism. The revolutionary archetype
duplicated throughout fiction is seen as a morally good character openly opposing the current state of
affairs despite the action being against the known laws, this character type is also often forced to
sacrifice something for their cause. Diana Farley from The Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard,

her gloves, Cinder cast a look toward the road that would take her away from the palace, back to the
safety of being an invisible girl in a very big city. Releasing a slow breath, she turned and followed the

The Shawl is a historical short story written by Cynthia Ozick and was published in 1989. Cynthia
Ozick set the story back in 1940 when Jews were oppressed politically and socially and eventually
confined throughout Eastern Europe. The author s intentions were to circulate the short story around
the horrific effects of the Holocaust. The main character in The Shawl is a Jewish woman named
Rosa, a victim of the Holocaust. Also, featured in the short story were two Jewish girls named Stella,
Rosa s niece, and Magda, Rosa s daughter. In The Shawl , Ozick uses the characters to show the harsh

The camps would get full with women and children so the guards would kill them off either in groups
or one by one. They would starve the women and children to death by not giving them any food or
water until their bodies quit functioning. Just like when Rosa feared of losing Magda due to lack of
food. Disease also played a key factor in the toll number of deaths in the holocaust. Women and
children were brought to new places throughout eastern Europe and exposed to many diseases that
could kill a whole population. Also the unsanitary conditions of the camps lead to many diseases such
as: Typhoid, Dysentery, Pellagra, Marasmus, and lice. Cynthia Ozick shares in the story about the lice
exposure in the camp Rosa was in and how Magda was exposed to it.(put quote about lice) .Of course
in the camps they didn t get supplies to treat the diseases therefore it would end up painfully killing
them. By far the worst horrifying group killing s were the gas chambers. Nazi guard s would pick out
different Jews women or children and take them into a dark chamber. They would make the Jews strip
down and lock them in a room. At first they would think they were getting a shower, but unfortunately
it was toxic gases that would suffocate them to death. Public executions brought fear into many Jews
eyes of the thought of being shot or hung. Surviving mothers that lost their children in the Holocaust
will always keep that traumatizing moment in their head. In Rosa s case she had to encounter the
traumatizing death of her daughter Magda. Rosa walked away for a short minute to retrieve Magda s
blanket and when she came back Magda was gone. When she found her she was being held by two
guards that threw her against an electrical fence. Rosa could not even go mourn over her baby s dead
body without the fear of being shot. Therefore the only thing she could do was shove the shawl in her
mouth to keep her from screaming.

Human Rights And Its Effects On Society Essay
Human Rights is one of the most fundamental rights individuals should have in society. As
individuals, it s our natural right to have the right to life. No one should be executed or discriminated
because they do not fit in certain characteristics that those that are superior have outlined as fit for
society. Many countries suffer from the lack of protecting their citizens human rights. For instance,
citizens have been executed and discriminated because of their gender, race, and religion affiliations,
which is unjust. Individuals have lost their lives because of not having their country making sure their
right to life and freedom does not get taking away. For instance, the persecution of the Jews by the
Nazi s, many of them lost their life because of a lack of human right to protect them from being
executed without a logic purpose. As a society we can not construct some criteria as to whom can have
human rights and those that cannot. Society is not supposing to be built on unjust acts against those in

Examples Of Logical Fallacies In Advertising
Advertisements are everywhere, on television, radio, social media, billboards, magazines, and even on
yearbooks. On the other hand, would it not be nice if every advertisement an individual saw, read, or
heard were actually true? Like using Axe body spray really did attract women or eating Snickers really
made one satisfied in seconds? Yet, most of the times the advertisements that seem too good to be true,
actually are. In fact, many ads are only slightly true and instead filled with many common errors in
reasoning, known as logical fallacies, a sneaky marketing technique many companies use to trick a
consumer into giving them their undivided attention and money. In fact, one well known company for
using logical fallacies in their advertisements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plain folk is the marketing strategy where advertisers portray a person like a well known celebrity like
Lindsey Lohan as a person who is in fact, normal or an everyday Joe. For instance, Lohan explains
that even though she is a singer and actress she is just like anyone else, a person who struggles with
having unclear, bumpy, and acne prone skin stating, I m a normal person and I do get zits and I m not
happy when I do so I like to try and find anything that s preventative towards it and Proactiv has done
that for me. By promoting a person, in this case as Lindsay Lohan, a person who suffers from the
same problems as acne, like anyone else, people gain trust and feel comforted, resulting in the
individual being more open and willing to buy a product. Then again Proactiv is not the only company
that has used and uses logical fallacies in their advertisements to trick people into buying their
products. In fact, if one were to close enough to the advertisements and commercials that are around
them, they would start to see how life is filled with false statements, logical fallacies, and ultimately
scams. Perhaps, people will think twice and be more cautious when buying a product, knowing that in
the end they might just be wasting their

Why I Was A Kid
When I was a kid, I would always hear my mom and the other adults talk about how they were going
to move us out and come back to the city. They was a reference to white people and us referred to
minorities in the inner city. This was back in Milwaukee in the early 1980 s, now every city that I go
to and visit this myth seems to follow. It wasn t until I moved to Atlanta and over the last ten years, I
saw the city change right before my very eyes. I noticed nice condos going up in Midtown Atlanta,
nice homes being built in East Atlanta and expensive apartments in areas like the West End and Sweet
Auburn District. After seeing some of the prices for these new apartments and homes, I knew there

What will happens to these long term residents, where do they go now? If suburbanites are taking
flight back to the city, what will the face of Atlanta look like in ten years? The inner city residents will
probably be given vouchers for Section 8 housing in less desirable areas in the city where jobs and
transportation are scarce. As for the later, in the next ten years Atlanta will go from predominantly
black and liberal landscape to a more white conservative population, if we aren t including or afforded
the benefits of gentrification. The exodus of the Black poor and working class to the suburbs, will in
effect lead to the loss of Black politicians and old time supporters of the old Atlanta.
Will gentrification radically alter a neighborhood? Does so called cleaning up really change anything,
or is it just straightening it up , making it look more attractive for visitors. Atlanta s populus in urban
areas continues to grow, but this growth is now being fueled by existing suburban residents and yuppie
transplants from other states, streaming current residents further out of the city. Africans Americans
once held a strong hold as the majority in Atlanta, but that grip is slowly weakening as white residents
are experiencing population growth as the blacks temper off. It has

Were Watching God Figurative Language
In William Shakespeare s The Tempest, A storm is responsible for creating an epoch in Prospero s life.
Likewise, the hurricane in Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God also represents a
watershed in Janie s life. Both Shakespeare and Hurston use the storm to symbolize creation and
regeneration among their protagonists. Hurston, however, uses figurative language to enhance features
of the storm, creating a mood for the reader. Hurston uses imagery and personifications to establish
varying moods throughout Their Eyes Were Watching God.
For example, Hurston s use of imagery helps to establish the varying moods within the novel. While
beginning to tell her story to Phoeby, Janie describes the growth of the pear tree that she grows fond of
throughout her childhood: From barren brown stems to glistening leaf buds; from the leaf buds to
snowy virginity of bloom (Hurston 10). Janie tells how the pear tree from a mundane tree to one
blooming with excitement. This also follows Janie s path from childhood to womanhood. The imagery
of the pear tree presents a serene mood the follow along the plot of the novel for some time. Word
choice such as glistening and snowy creates a peaceful situation in which suits Janie s childhood.
Later in her adult life, Janie becomes attracted to Tea Cake to the point where she can t bear to be

Self Identity In A Raisin In The Sun By Lorraine Hansberry
Self identity is the core of every person. It develops the specifics of personality all the way to the most
detailed physical makeup. Knowing where someone stands in life can change who they are and,
moreover, how they see the things around them. In A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry,
Beneatha Younger struggles to accept her self identity. Her family perceives her as selfish, as
Beneatha talks about having things that she would not be able to even fathom without the help of her
family, but this selfishness is actually her courage to be her own person and ignore what others expect
from her. She finds herself trapped in between wishing and having the educational goals her family
jokes are hobbies. Beneatha s struggle with positive self identity leads her to disobey the what s
expected of her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creative And Practical Skills Essay
Introduction
According to the proposed theory of human intelligence and its development (Sternberg, 1999a), a
common set of processes underlies all aspects of intelligence. These processes are hypothesized to be
universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on whether
a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills.
Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It involves
individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job or at home.
Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience to: adapt to,
(b) shape, and (c) select environments.
In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose, or
hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in measuring
performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations. Sternberg has
shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests of intelligence
allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by these tests
(Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or they have
these both skills innate with them. But in consideration to its value in day to day life, practical skill
can be considered more important than creative

Beowulf Christian Beliefs
The epic poem of Beowulf is one of the most well known stories in European history. The poem,
believed to be first written in 1000 CE, though probably around at least 300 years older, is a story of a
Geatish hero by the name of Beowulf who travels to the Danes to earn valor and heroism for his name.
In the epic there are many examples of what Thomas Hill refers to as peculiar spiritual atmosphere ,
this is the combination of both pagan and Christian beliefs and values in the epic. While many other
early medieval texts are either emphatically and militantly Christian or unapologetically pagan or
secular, in their viewpoint Beowulf is neither (Hill 198 199). Beowulf is in fact unlike any other

of Noah and his sons without having access to the revealed knowledge of God which was granted to
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob a tradition culminate by the revelation of the Law to Moses and continued
by the charismatic tradition of prophecy in Israel. Every reference in the poem which touches on
religion can be understood in these terms except for one lines 179 83 in which the poet apparently
condemns Hrothgar and the Danes for idol worship (Hill 202). The epic holds the values of Pagan
ancestors and their Christian beliefs to be values that should be upheld in their most important
traditions. Even if their ancestors weren t Christian, they still followed their value system. Many of the
characters in the epic seem to talk in a monotheistic perspective that the Germanic warriors of the time
would not have used. This shows evidence that the epic was recorded by a monk who held strong
Christian values. For example, after the warriors finished their sea voyage to the Danes, they praised
God for giving them safe journey, while the warriors of the time would have been more likely to
praise either Thor or Odin, gods of the religion practiced at the time in that area. Also, the
condemnation of idol worship, when Beowulf condemned the idol worship

Analysis Of The House Holder By Ruth Prawer Jhabvala
The portrayal of socio economic structure of Indian society of 1950 s and early 1960 s gets amply
reflected in the early novels of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Most of the protagonists of her novels hail from
upper and middle classes and their interaction with the lower strata of society reveals the gap between
the rich and the poor, While her satire is directed against the materialistic attitudes of the middle class
in most of her novels. Jhabvala can not be blamed for totally ignoring the lower class. In her fourth
novel, The House Holder (1960), she has projected lower strata of society on an even bigger canvas.
With this novel she returns to the intra Indian context.
The main protagonist Prem, a Hindi teacher with a second class B.A., in Mr. Khanna s private college

realities which are the consequence of Indian planning. The break up of the joint family and the

America s Old Growth Forests are an endangered resource that is quickly disappearing. The ancient
forests are being unnecessarily wasted, and are growing smaller and smaller with each passing

Because the logging industry and the organizations in control of much of the remaining old growth

According to the United Nations, at least 37.5 million acres of rainforest is harvested annually.
Despite the relatively small areas of land the rainforests cover, they are home to nearly half of the 5 10
million plant and animal species on the planet Earth (Brown, 1998). Many of these are indigenous
species that scientists feel may be the key to the development of new medicines which may ultimately
lead to cures for some of the world s most terrible diseases. Furthermore the rainforests are the lungs
of our planet, without which life would not be possible, and while it s true that younger trees do in fact
produce more net oxygen than do mature trees, much of the rainforest is not being replanted, and
therefore the destruction taking place there is permanent. For this reason; it is no longer acceptable to

Jamaican Music, Culture, And Music In Jamaican Culture
Reggae music was a big part of Jamaican culture. Many artists practiced the style of reggae and some
of the artists like Bob Marley influenced and showed people internationally all about this music. It
originated around the time that Jamaica was being attacked by European countries like Spain and
native people being taken into slavery. Bob Marley was born after the time of slave trading but whites
still effected the native people and this is how he got his inspiration for his music.
a) The music of Jamaica began five centuries ago, when Columbus colonized the land of the Arawak
Indians. This dates the start of oppression by first the Spanish and then the English in this area of the
Caribbean. Blacks were brought in as slaves by the English, and although Jamaica has had it s
independence since 1963, the tension of authority and control still reigns. Jamaica is a story of
injustice, international influence, ineffective governing, and unequal distribution of wealth; all of these
elements provide a solid base for the theme of oppression and the need for a revolution and
redemption in Jamaican music. Reggae in particular reflects these injustices, and the feelings, needs
and desires to change the lifestyle that Jamaicans have historically lived. Reggae music has two
meanings. It s generic name for all Jamaican popular music since 1960, West Indian style of music
with a strongly accented subsidiary beat. Reggae can also refer to the particular beat that was
extremely popular in

The Effect Of Exercise On Pain Perception
The role of exercise in pain perception has been widely researched for over a number of years as
Koltyn (2000) found research had been taking place for more than twenty years. Previous studies have
identified the significance of exercise in the treatment and rehabilitation for many patients with
chronic pain (Naugle, Fillingham, Riley, 2012). According to IASP Taxonomy, International
Association for the Study of Pain, hypoalgesia is diminished pain in response to a normally painful
stimulus (Merskey, Bogduk, 2011). It was suggested that further examination was required to develop
an understanding of hypoalgesic responses following different modes of exercise (Koltyn, 2000).

Deciding Between Olympics or Baseball for My Reasearch Paper
Deciding on a topic for my multi genre English project was harder than I had expected. Considering

From there, I simplified my searches into more narrow areas, such as the history of Major League
Baseball, steroids in the MLB and spring training for Major League Baseball. These subtopics gave
me fewer results, averaging in the 50 million range. With this many results for the narrowed topics,
taking different view points in each paper to the broader topic would be easy. Using the same database
as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League
Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered
a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around
40,000 for each narrowed search. Both the database results and Google Scholar results provided me
with more educated writings and information on Major League Baseball than that of Google. Again,
eBooks seemed to be the most logical answer to finding print sources on Major League Baseball. I
was able to find over 100 eBooks, on one site alone, with information regarding Major League
Baseball. The information I found on Major League Baseball was interesting and ample. Using the
sources I found while researching the topic would lead to a well written multi genre project. After
considering many topics for my multi genre English project, I was able to narrow it down to the

Amos And A Sinful World
Amos and a Sinful World
Throughout Israel s history, they have been oppressed by many of the larger powers in the areas they
are in. Take the Israelites interactions with the Egyptians, for example. Generations after Joseph s
death, the Egyptians forgot the reasons why the Israelites were in Egypt in the first place. They took
advantage of the large population of the Israelites, oppressing them by forcing them to do manual
labor for Pharaoh and implementing a blanket infanticide of their sons to keep the population from
growing too large. God then delivered the Israelites from Egypt through the God directed work of
Moses, gradually drawing them closer to Him as He provided for them and showed them His love.
This intimate relationship with God is the trademark of a period of prosperity for the Israelites as long
as they relied on God. However, once the Israelites become distracted and wandered away spiritually,
they consistently saw periods of defeat in battle and oppression by outside sources that consistently
end once they return to God and His ways again. It is not until Israel rejects God as their king and puts
a human in His place, when Israel sees oppression from both outside and inside sources. The outside
sources come from the surrounding peoples, like the Philistines, the Moabites, the Edomites, and so
on. The inside oppression, however, stems from the Israelites themselves. This is where Amos, a
prophet of God, comes in. Amos is alive after the time of the unified

Rosenhan s Experiments
The work of David Rosenhan has inspired many people after him to look into how psychological
clinics and hospitals work in admitting and their behavior towards those who seek their assistance,
whether they be sane or insane. Two of such people are Lauren Slater and Mike Smith. To start,
Lauren Slater presents her findings in researching Rosenhan s experiments and conducting one of her
own that was very similar to Rosenhans. One of the first things Slater points out is that Rosenhans
experiments are flawed (137). Unfortunately, she doesn t go into extreme detail about what she
believes to be those flaws. I personally think that one of the biggest flaws in Rosenhan s experiments
is that all of his subjects claimed the same issues. I think that to have done a full experiment,
Rosenhan and his confederates should have tried different symptoms. For example, after being let out
of whatever facility they were in, they should switch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

big improvement. If those who were supposed to be taking care of the ill could not act professionally,
they should not be in charge of taking care of those who might not even be able to take care of
themselves. A big point of Slater s and Rosenhan s results involve how well those who work in mental
facilities are able to sense the sanity of the patient. However, neither Rosenhan nor Slater give a way
of how to detect sanity or even what is the definition of sanity is. Mike Smith covers what he believes
the answer is to that question. He believes that the absence of madness is the definition of sanity (39).

The Warming Of Global Climate Change
Global climate change is going to change with or without the help of humans because we have to use
fossil fuels to survive. Global Climate change is the warming of the average temperature On Earth s
surface, caused mainly by the increased concentration of Greenhouse Gases in the atmosphere causing
weather patterns to change. Man made gases are not the only contributing factor to Global Climate
change because such things as sunspots eating at the atmospheric layers, causing more radiation to
come through, increased water vapor due to Carbon Dioxide induced warming as indicated by NASA,
and Permafrost, which is solid, frozen soil which constitutes about 25% of land area in the Northern
Hemisphere.
Sunspots form On the sun s surface due to strong magnetic field lines coming up within the sun
trough, solar surface, and are visible as dark spots compared to surrounding. Sunspots are generally
bigger than the Earth and are always dark and much cooler than it s surroundings. Large sunspots can
have a temperature of 3700 degrees Celsius, which isn t much compared to the temperature of the

However, after watching the small clip of Psycho in class, it peaked my interest to further understand
the characters, in particular, Norman Bates character. In the film Psycho, the recurring theme is a more
psychological and can be demonstrated throughout the film but in particular, the parlor scene and the
end scene at the jail. One of the most revealing moments of the psychological aspect of horror in this
film is the scene which includes Norman Bates and Marion Crane sharing dinner in his office parlor.

The shower scene is a greatly crafted scene that truly captivates the death of Marion and the
introduction to the mysterious murder at Bates Motel. This scene starts with Marion making
calculation on the money she spent then leading her to shower. During this shower and prior to the
killing, we receive a total of two power shots of the shower head running. This is a quite odd, but truly
meaningful. When Marion is about to be murdered we receive a panned shot which includes Marion
showering and a mysterious figure walking closer and closer to her. This then prompts Leigh s famous
scream, now a key element for horror films. The thing that really makes this scene scary is the scoring
which initiates just as the killer slides the shower curtain open. The scoring switches from a very high
pitched to a more low toned sound. I absolutely love the scoring at this instant because no matter how
many times I watch it, the scene always makes me jump and clench back in fear. After Marion drops
to the floor, we get moving shot that leads to the drain, slowly zooming in and then switching to
Marion s eye eventually capturing her whole head. What I found the most intriguing about this scene
is the fact that they show her eye open, looking almost bead like. After watching the parlor scene and

Differences Between Mali And The Mali Empire
Unlike Ghana, the Mali Empire was dominated by Islam, due to the widespread Islamic merchants and
conversions that occurred in during kingdoms. This is significant because it demonstrates that goods
weren t the sole exchange and that religion was able to penetrate West Africa and impact the native
people. The main motive for this mass adaptation of Islam as the dominant religion stems from
strategic aims, from previous kingdoms, to diminish possible attacks from Muslim territories across
the Sahara. This created alliance between Mali and other Arab powers, the might of the [Mali] Empire
was such that the Arabs at times called on it for military aid (Diop, 93). This was extremely beneficial
for Mali because it was the premier power of antiquity, and also had progressive relationships with
other Islamic kingdoms throughout the world. The Empire of Mali inherited all of gold mines that the
previous Ghanaian empire controlled, as well as gold from other kingdoms, Futa Jallon, Wangara
(Goodwin). Mali grew in influence and replace Ghana as the main producer and distributor of gold . . .
[as well as] salt mines, diamonds, and copper production (Mali). This ensure Mali as the dominant
economic marketplace throughout the world. Mali s strategic location allowed control of trade routes
throughout Sub Saharan Africa, the Niger River, North Africa, as well as many other routes
connecting to different parts of the world. Sundiata death led to a succession of leaders that

The Noose Of Pride Research Paper
The Noose of Pride The noose of pride wraps around every human being s neck. Pride strips us of
ability to breathe, to struggle, and do anything to give up and succumb to our death. In the myth, the
maiden Arachne challenged Athene. Arachne s despair after failing proves that no one can let go of
pride, and it s even harder to make let go of us. Arachne doesn t ever let go of her pride. Even when
she falls at Athene s feet in fear for her life, she gives her a cloak, claiming You have nothing more
fine (Evslin 11) Arachne brings on her own demise. She desperately breathes only her pride until there
s no reason for her to have any and she suddenly suffocates. After losing the contest Arachne also
loses all sense of her worth. She scrabbles

Dehydrogenase Lab Report
ABSTRACT: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is considered to be a major checkpoint for an anaerobic
glycolysis by catalyzing the pyruvate to the lactate. By isolating lactate dehydrogenase from a
homogenized chicken breast from a local marker, further examination of kinetics was able to be seen.
Three tests were ran over a course of four weeks, which involved ldDEAE fractions as well as Affinity
fractions. Gel electrophoresis was used to check the purity of the LDH and it was found that the
purification was performed successfully. RM values for the affinity and the BSA marker were 0.61 cm
and 0.472 cm respectfully. To determine how the experiment was performed, literature molecular
weight values were compared and showed to have a percent error of ... Show more content on

By graphing each dilution, the protein concentration (7.67 mg/mL), total protein (23.01 mg), LDH
activity (54.74 units/mL), total LDH activity (164.22 units), specific activity (7.14 units/mg)
purification factor (1) and %Recovery (100%) could be determined for the crude extract which can be
seen in Table II. Once the LDH assay was ran, a DEAE ion exchange as well as a Cibacron affinity
was performed to determine the highest protein concentration. Once the Anion Exchange column
chromatography as well as the affinity column chromatography was run, Figures III (DEAE) and IV
(Affinity) were produced. Once it was determined which fractions contained the highest activity for
the DEAE fraction the protein concentration (2.82 mg/mL), total protein (8.46 mg), LDH activity (5.8
units/mL), total LDH activity (17.4 units), specific activity (2.06 units/mg), purification factor (.288)
and %Recovery (10.60) were found which can also be found in Table II. Along with that, the affinity

Essay on El Nino and Global Warming
El Nino and Global Warming
El Nino has been known to wreak havoc al around the world, from Australia to Africa to the United
States of America, and despite its approximate regularity, it is still not possible to predict exactly when
it will appear or how much damage will be caused. Meteorologists discovered in the late 19th century
that El Nino weather events appeared to be occurring approximately every ten to fifteen years but in
the late 19th century this gradually changed to a strong pulse of about three years by the early 20th
century, at the same time it had been noted that the temperature was rising above the average. This
was a gradual change until 1976 where changes were occurring, the El ... Show more content on

An analysis of the coral showed that the length of the cycle changes with the normal average climate,
as the corals growth spurts were higher when the records from previous years matched with those of
previous El Nino events.
California saw the political leader; Vice President Al Gore suggesting that the effect of global
warming may be increasing the likelihood of an El Nino weather event. He based his theory around a
scientific prediction that the winter of 2002 was going to be the worst within the past decade, the last
extreme winter was recorded in 1982 83 when the country was invaded by floods, heavy snow and
drought. In a speech he made he said that El Nino events were becoming more common and the
gradual increase in global warming was creating a build up of pollutant gases in the atmosphere
making it harder for the air wasn t able to circulate as easily so the winds were forced by the increased
air pressure to take an alternate route. This idea however was dismissed as being more political rather
than environmental as people felt Gore was following the awareness of concerns over global warming
by President Clintons campaign. The campaign was created to help get worldwide negotiations on
how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Gore believed this campaign would be a step towards

Breast Augmentation Campaign
The 2015 National Clearinghouse of Plastic Surgery Statistics Report states that of the nearly 2
million plastic surgery procedures performed in 2015, almost 300,000 were breast implant surgeries
(breast augmentations). Dr. Farbod Esmailian frequently performs breast enhancement procedures,
including breast augmentations, for women residing in and around Orange County. In fact, many of
his patients reside in the city of Irvine.
WHY WOMEN UNDERGO AN AUGMENTATION MAMMAPLASTY IN ORANGE COUNTY,
NEAR IRVINE
Some women who reside in Irvine feel self conscious about the shape and/or size of their breasts. A
woman may feel as if her breasts are not proportionate with the rest of her body and/or she may have
lost breast volume following weight loss, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows the implant to move around, which helps the breast look and feel more natural. After
creation of the pocket, Dr. Esmailian uses a special device (Keller Funnel) to insert the breast implant.
The Keller Funnel minimizes the strain and friction that occurs between the incision and the implant;
thus, improving the safety of this procedure even more.
Following breast implant insertion (and fill, when applicable), Dr. Esmailian will use sutures to close
the tissue that leads to the pocket holding the implant. He will then close the outer incision. His
experience allows him to use precise suture techniques that are designed to minimize scarring. Once
closure is complete, the breast augmentation surgery is over.
RECOVERING AFTER BREAST IMPLANT SURGERY NEAR IRVINE
Patients will experience some inflammation, bruising and discomfort. These symptoms usually
subside several days after surgery. As each patient is unique, specific recovery times and limitations
vary.
If you are considering a breast augmentation or any other kind of breast enhancement procedure,
contact Dr. Farbod Esmailian s office today. Feel free to use our online contact form or call (562)

The Cognitive Theory Of Emotion
Based on Tom s feelings of anger, the theory of emotion described in the text that best fits his feelings
at the time is cognitive appraisal theory. The cognitive appraisal theory states that if a person notices a
particular psychological response, that person has to decide what it means before he or she can feel an
emotion (Baird 195). In Tom s case, about halfway through his Milgram s experiment, his heartrate
starts increasing and he starts sweating. He then stands up angry and declares that what is going on is
wrong. He then proceeds to slam his fists on the table and say he will no longer participate. Tom s
reactions are following the cognitive appraisal theory of emotion as he first must process what he is
feeling about his heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drive reduction theory of motivation might help explain why Tom walked out. The book states
that departures from the optimal states creates drives (Baird 200). During this experiment, Tom was
removed from his optimal state as he began to sweat, his heartrate increased, he became angry, and
stated what was going on was wrong and he no longer would participate. Nonregulatory drives
involved in the drive reduction theory such as sex or social drives also might help explain why Tom
might have walked out. An example of these nonregulatory drive is a drive to preserve safety
motivates feelings of fear, anger, and even the need for sleep (Baird 200). The reason I chose this
theory of motivation to describe why Tom walked out is not only because of his removal from his
optimal state, but also because the other theories might not be able to explain why Tom left. The social
learning theory emphasizes the role of cognition in motivation and the importance of expectations in
shaping behavior (Baird 200). From the definition of the social learning theory, Tom s importance of
expectations or goals from the experiment were never introduced making it difficult to choose this
theory as we do not know what his goals were as a participant. Central state theory of motivation tries
to explain drive by understanding them as

The two narratives claim that the decision to send the flood as punishment was divine (made by deity); a chosen person (man) is instructed to save himself and his family, together with living animals and to do this he is asked to build an ark (boat); the flood destroys everyone else on the earth. The boat eventually rests on a mountain and the birds are sent out off the boat to see if there is any land that is habitable. The chosen man eventually sacrifices to the divine and humanity is renewed on the earth.[footnoteRef:7] For Kitchen, the differences are that in the Genesis narrative, deity (God) observes the wickedness that was done by the humans on the earth ... This place is my pond, it has been here ever since I can remember, and the pond is a dark, green color when the sun is not hitting it. When the sun does hit the water, it changes to a lighter color in some spots. This pond has been the place to go, when I am feeling excited, sad, or agitated. The pond has always been there for me. That pond is not just a place to catch fish, it is my second home, my childhood, and my safe place. I do not live in the pond; however, it is like home to me, because I know where everything is in the pond. On the top left hand corner of the pond, is where all ... There is one part of the pond where there is not any fish we call this the dead zone. We would sit at the dead zone to relax, and have no one or fish to bother us. We would fish until dusk even if we were not catching anything, we still just had fun just sitting there waiting for a bite. Around the age of thirteen, I would sneak out late at night to go to the pond. The moon would reflect off the water so beautifully. The fireflies would light up all around the pond. If I had a bad dream that would wake me up or could not sleep. I would go to the pond, sit by the bank, and stare up at the stars. A majority of my time, day or night, I would be found at the pond. However, when I need a place to relax, clam down, or clear my head. You could find me at the pond. I would go sit on the bank of the pond and watch the fish swim by. This is a quiet, relaxing, and peaceful place to be where no one can bother me. Whenever I would feel sad, I would grab my fishing rod, tackle box, and a drink and head over to the pond. I would bait a hook, cast, and sit there and wait until I caught something. After a while, I would forget about what I was upset about. • 5. Universal Health Care Reform Health care is a very expensive issue here in the United Sates and the current system is not sustainable at its current state. Republicans for the last 8 years have tried to replace the current system (ACA) with a more cost effective one, but this has been a daunting task. Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of human and health services. The Trump administration was able to finally elect one of the leading figures in the opposition of Obamacare. The political landscape has changed a lot since this confirmation and the uncertainty of the repeal has led to the possibility of more progressive ideas. In a CNN debate with Ted Cruz, Sanders brought up questions regarding the current system and wondered why we continue to rely on premiums and why we continue to enrich insurers that are unreliable. Although, Sanders is a representative of liberal and progressive ideas this idea of universal health is becoming more mainstream with democratic and Republican voters. In a recent Pew poll, the survey showed that 60 percent of respondents believed that the government should be responsible of the coverage of all Americans. Other polls showed that low income Republicans have shown support for universal health care and this comes as an opportunity for politicians in both parties. From a Republican standpoint, this would complete the promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare and it would also solve the problem of the disastrous exchange system. This idea may be too liberal for most Republican politicians as it goes against party lines, but strong support from the democrats and their constituents could alter some of the positions of Republican politicians. Democrats have less of a political risk in embracing universal health care as it is in line with liberal ideology. This is very important as democrats can run as challengers to the incumbent Republicans and seek to unseat them under the premise of Medicare coverage for everyone. This would also put pressure on Republicans to move further to the center of the political spectra as the fear of losing votes materializes from the massive effects of a complete ... • 9. The Negativity Of The American Education System The Negativity of the American Education System The American Education System is not meeting the needs of current students. If anything, the system is not building a sturdy foundation for the future working class. Schools have existed for many years and every period they have worked differently. However, every school s main purpose was to educate students to be efficacious later in life. Modern day schools are corrupting students with added pressure, standardized tests, making less accommodations for special education students, not following laws, and take away individualism from the students . The students of modern times are the people of our future and the future does not look too bright with the current American Education System. On the other hand, there is an argument that the education system provides positive qualities. Some students are actually improving in the classroom and on standardized tests. In her book, Christina Fisanick found that In Wisconsin, 87 percent of third graders were reading at grade level or above. This number was an all time high, and a 13 percent increase over 2002 scores (Fisanick, 17). Success for all is one of many purposes that come from the educational system. These features lead Tokyo people to generally consider it a lazy, country way of speaking. The accent also carries the stereotype of laziness or clumsiness, as Tohoku speakers are known for slurring and not opening their mouths very much. The rather negative nickname for the dialect is zuuzuu ben, zuuzuu being the sound that a Kanto speaker hears when a Tohoku speaker neutralizes and drags their vowels. These processes are hypothesized to be universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on whether a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills. Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It involves individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job or at home. Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience to: adapt to, (b) shape, and (c) select environments. In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose, or hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in measuring performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations. Sternberg has shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests of intelligence allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by these tests (Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or they have these both skills innate with them. But in consideration to its value in day to day life, practical skill can be considered more important than creative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Beowulf Christian Beliefs The epic poem of Beowulf is one of the most well known stories in European history. The poem, believed to be first written in 1000 CE, though probably around at least 300 years older, is a story of a Geatish hero by the name of Beowulf who travels to the Danes to earn valor and heroism for his name. In the epic there are many examples of what Thomas Hill refers to as peculiar spiritual atmosphere , this is the combination of both pagan and Christian beliefs and values in the epic. While many other early medieval texts are either emphatically and militantly Christian or unapologetically pagan or secular, in their viewpoint Beowulf is neither (Hill 198 199). Beowulf is in fact unlike any other writing of the era and a presentation of a radical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are considered to be Noachites, that is, gentiles who share the religious heritage and knowledge of Noah and his sons without having access to the revealed knowledge of God which was granted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob a tradition culminate by the revelation of the Law to Moses and continued by the charismatic tradition of prophecy in Israel. Every reference in the poem which touches on religion can be understood in these terms except for one lines 179 83 in which the poet apparently condemns Hrothgar and the Danes for idol worship (Hill 202). The epic holds the values of Pagan ancestors and their Christian beliefs to be values that should be upheld in their most important traditions. Even if their ancestors weren t Christian, they still followed their value system. Many of the characters in the epic seem to talk in a monotheistic perspective that the Germanic warriors of the time would not have used. This shows evidence that the epic was recorded by a monk who held strong Christian values. For example, after the warriors finished their sea voyage to the Danes, they praised God for giving them safe journey, while the warriors of the time would have been more likely to praise either Thor or Odin, gods of the religion practiced at the time in that area. Also, the condemnation of idol worship, when Beowulf condemned the idol worship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The House Holder By Ruth Prawer Jhabvala The portrayal of socio economic structure of Indian society of 1950 s and early 1960 s gets amply reflected in the early novels of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Most of the protagonists of her novels hail from upper and middle classes and their interaction with the lower strata of society reveals the gap between the rich and the poor, While her satire is directed against the materialistic attitudes of the middle class in most of her novels. Jhabvala can not be blamed for totally ignoring the lower class. In her fourth novel, The House Holder (1960), she has projected lower strata of society on an even bigger canvas. With this novel she returns to the intra Indian context. The main protagonist Prem, a Hindi teacher with a second class B.A., in Mr. Khanna s private college in Delhi and the other representative of his class Sohanial confront against several social and familial realities which are the consequence of Indian planning. The ancient forests are being unnecessarily wasted, and are growing smaller and smaller with each passing moment. According to the United Nations, at least 37.5 million acres of rainforest is harvested annually. Despite the relatively small areas of land the rainforests cover, they are home to nearly half of the 5 10 million plant and animal species on the planet Earth (Brown, 1998). Many of these are indigenous species that scientists feel may be the key to the development of new medicines which may ultimately lead to cures for some of the world s most terrible diseases. Furthermore the rainforests are the lungs of our planet, without which life would not be possible, and while it s true that younger trees do in fact produce more net oxygen than do mature trees, much of the rainforest is not being replanted, and therefore the destruction taking place there is permanent. For this reason; it is no longer acceptable to stand idly by, while large corporations; such as Weyerhaeuser, destroy what remains of the world s oldest living ecosystems with no regard for the well being of the Earth or the potential wealth of information and/or sheer joy of experience for future generations. • 29. Jamaican Music, Culture, And Music In Jamaican Culture Reggae music was a big part of Jamaican culture. Many artists practiced the style of reggae and some of the artists like Bob Marley influenced and showed people internationally all about this music. It originated around the time that Jamaica was being attacked by European countries like Spain and native people being taken into slavery. Bob Marley was born after the time of slave trading but whites still effected the native people and this is how he got his inspiration for his music. a) The music of Jamaica began five centuries ago, when Columbus colonized the land of the Arawak Indians. This dates the start of oppression by first the Spanish and then the English in this area of the Caribbean. Blacks were brought in as slaves by the English, and although Jamaica has had it s independence since 1963, the tension of authority and control still reigns. Jamaica is a story of injustice, international influence, ineffective governing, and unequal distribution of wealth; all of these elements provide a solid base for the theme of oppression and the need for a revolution and redemption in Jamaican music. Reggae in particular reflects these injustices, and the feelings, needs and desires to change the lifestyle that Jamaicans have historically lived. Reggae music has two meanings. It s generic name for all Jamaican popular music since 1960, West Indian style of music with a strongly accented subsidiary beat. Previous studies have identified the significance of exercise in the treatment and rehabilitation for many patients with chronic pain (Naugle, Fillingham, Riley, 2012). According to IASP Taxonomy, International Association for the Study of Pain, hypoalgesia is diminished pain in response to a normally painful stimulus (Merskey, Bogduk, 2011). • 35. Amos And A Sinful World Amos and a Sinful World Throughout Israel s history, they have been oppressed by many of the larger powers in the areas they are in. Take the Israelites interactions with the Egyptians, for example. Generations after Joseph s death, the Egyptians forgot the reasons why the Israelites were in Egypt in the first place. They took advantage of the large population of the Israelites, oppressing them by forcing them to do manual labor for Pharaoh and implementing a blanket infanticide of their sons to keep the population from growing too large. God then delivered the Israelites from Egypt through the God directed work of Moses, gradually drawing them closer to Him as He provided for them and showed them His love. This intimate relationship with God is the trademark of a period of prosperity for the Israelites as long as they relied on God. However, once the Israelites become distracted and wandered away spiritually, they consistently saw periods of defeat in battle and oppression by outside sources that consistently end once they return to God and His ways again. It is not until Israel rejects God as their king and puts a human in His place, when Israel sees oppression from both outside and inside sources. The outside sources come from the surrounding peoples, like the Philistines, the Moabites, the Edomites, and so on. The inside oppression, however, stems from the Israelites themselves. Two of such people are Lauren Slater and Mike Smith. To start, Lauren Slater presents her findings in researching Rosenhan s experiments and conducting one of her own that was very similar to Rosenhans. One of the first things Slater points out is that Rosenhans experiments are flawed (137). Unfortunately, she doesn t go into extreme detail about what she believes to be those flaws. I personally think that one of the biggest flaws in Rosenhan s experiments is that all of his subjects claimed the same issues. A big point of Slater s and Rosenhan s results involve how well those who work in mental facilities are able to sense the sanity of the patient. However, neither Rosenhan nor Slater give a way of how to detect sanity or even what is the definition of sanity is. Mike Smith covers what he believes the answer is to that question. • 46. The Cognitive Theory Of Emotion Based on Tom s feelings of anger, the theory of emotion described in the text that best fits his feelings at the time is cognitive appraisal theory. The cognitive appraisal theory states that if a person notices a particular psychological response, that person has to decide what it means before he or she can feel an emotion (Baird 195). In Tom s case, about halfway through his Milgram s experiment, his heartrate starts increasing and he starts sweating. He then stands up angry and declares that what is going on is wrong. He then proceeds to slam his fists on the table and say he will no longer participate. Tom s reactions are following the cognitive appraisal theory of emotion as he first must process what he is feeling about his heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The drive reduction theory of motivation might help explain why Tom walked out. The book states that departures from the optimal states creates drives (Baird 200). During this experiment, Tom was removed from his optimal state as he began to sweat, his heartrate increased, he became angry, and stated what was going on was wrong and he no longer would participate. Nonregulatory drives involved in the drive reduction theory such as sex or social drives also might help explain why Tom might have walked out. An example of these nonregulatory drive is a drive to preserve safety motivates feelings of fear, anger, and even the need for sleep (Baird 200). The reason I chose this theory of motivation to describe why Tom walked out is not only because of his removal from his optimal state, but also because the other theories might not be able to explain why Tom left. The social learning theory emphasizes the role of cognition in motivation and the importance of expectations in shaping behavior (Baird 200). From the definition of the social learning theory, Tom s importance of expectations or goals from the experiment were never introduced making it difficult to choose this theory as we do not know what his goals were as a participant. Central state theory of motivation tries to explain drive by understanding them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
