Atmosphere In Fallen Angels
Atmosphere is essential to help bring energy to a story. Atmosphere can change throughout the novel,
but in Fallen Angels it can be broken down into three sections. The first section consists of the
uncertain state of war that the squad finds themselves in. This is shown by the opinions among the
soldiers about what it will be like when they actually go to war. The first section also includes the
shock of how different the real war is then what it is portrayed as. Peewee summed it up by saying, I
didn t think they was going to have no real fighting in this here war. (pg.23) the first section of this
book is also very thrilling and suspenseful, after Jenkins death the squad realizes that their lives are
about to get way worse than they would ve imagined. Tense is a word that ... Show more content on

The main part of the novel is set in the jungle of Vietnam which is very rainy and wet. Even though
this is the main setting Perry often talks about his home back in Harlem. Perry used to live in the
slums, which were neglected and poverty stricken as he says on page 14, How was I going to get
clothes for Kenny so he would stay in school? Mama had said that she d see to it that Kenny stayed in
school if I sent the money for clothes for him. (pg.14) So clearly Richie s mom was not bringing in
much money so Richie had to provide for the family. In Vietnam it rained almost everyday and was
mucky and grimy. The squad was placed in Chu Lai which was proficient and very intensive. At Chu
Lai they went out on patrols, and on one of them Jenkins lost his life giving the rest of the people in
the squad their first look at death. Then they had to move to Tam Ky, which was not as proficient and
was less state of the art. At Tam Ky, they are surrounded by the Vietnamese which makes patrolling at
night so much more difficult and dangerous. At Tam Ky during a mission Richie becomes injured and
his profile is found, then he is sent back to

Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory
Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey
Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing
movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well
as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and
connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept
of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to
and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole
researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey
Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster
one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general
(2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the
delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient
ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living
(Dosseydossey.com).
Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse,
individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be
acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong

Cultural And Social Capital Theory
Chen (2003) used the frameworks of cultural and social capital theory to explore factors affecting the
academic success of Chinese students in Los Angeles Community College. The results of the study
indicated that the aspirations of obtaining a higher level academic degree and then transferring to a
four year college or university were considered as the best predictors of academic success for Chinese
international students. Whereas, English proficiency was considered to be a weak factor and social
interaction factors were not too much related to Chinese international students academic success.
Yuan (2011) examined the experiences of ten Chinese students at one American university. This study
examined the challenges faced by Chinese international students, their social interaction, and their
attitudes to adapting into the American culture and society. The result indicated that Chinese
participants identified spoken English and class discussion as their major challenges while studying at
American higher education institutions. Besides, they stated limited interaction with Americans.
However, most of them highly praised the American educational system and regarded their
experiences in the United States as being worthwhile. It is also worth noting that the Chinese
participants expressed mixed perceptions of American culture and different attitudes to cultural
assimilation.
Zhang (2013) explored the lived experience of Chinese undergraduate students from their perspective

Low production numbers of the Shelby Cobra GT500 helps this special Mustang maintain its

Zespri- the Kiwi Fruit Industry
MEMORANDUM
To: Director of University of Auckland Business School Case Centre
From: Rebecca Machado
Date: 27th April 2011
Re: A critical review of the industry in which New Zealand Company Zespri International operates,
and the company s strategy and business model.
INTRODUCTION:
1409 was the start of New Zealand long and prosperous relationship with Kiwifruit growing.
Ironically, the kiwifruit seeds themselves were brought back by Whanganui teacher Mabel Fisher after
a trip in China. Horticulturist, Alexandra Allison nurtured and sprouted the seeds that have now turned
into an iconic Kiwi industry. Hayward Wright is the man responsible for the start of the Zespri brand.

The industry in which Zespri functions in within New Zealand can be broken up into three broad value
generating activities. The first activity is growing of kiwifruit which pertains to the orchards and
includes pest and disease control and harvesting. The second includes the post harvesting activities
including grading, packing and storing. The final stage and perhaps the most intrinsic stage includes
the exporting. This includes the selling and distribution of the kiwifruit to overseas markets. Zespri
International group is responsible for marketing almost all the export quality fruit from New Zeland.
The only exclusion being the Austrailian Market.
COMPANY STRATEGY
Ensuring success was not always easy for Zespri. In fact it can be said that the mere creation itself of
Zespri by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry was a branding strategy created to regain the lost
opportunity taken by New Zealands lower cost counter parts; Chile and Italy (cvtb). It seemed as
though the new strategy was a valid attempt to develope and sustain a market orientation within the
broad Kiwifruit industry.Zespri s structure was always said to be from the Market to the orchard as
opposed to traditionally being the other way around (cvtb). The brand strategy s main aim was to
differentiate New Zealand s own kiwifruit as being something iconic and premium as a product. The
aim furthered out to moving Zespri out from

One of the key topics that come out of this is intelligence . John Parachini explains that at the time the
Central Intelligence Agency had their focus on the Islamic terrorism, overlooking the Aum. They were
overlooked because they believed the unintelligible religious group in a country considered to be an
ally was no threat. My guess is, they misjudged and were wrong with their intelligence gathering. But
since this attack, the Central Intelligence Agency has fixed the intelligence blind spots. However, I
think the government needs to think about the newer intelligence issues that are being developed. In
closing, governments need to know that even though the possibility of a biological or chemical attack
is remote, they have a responsibility to do everything in their power to curb the opportunities, guard,
and take action. For the Japanese government their test is to establish how much to organize for a low
probability attack, all while safeguarding against on more likely events with significant, but not

groups don t always use biological weapons for their attacks, because they often have other

Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson
In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge
argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces a thought
experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to refute
physicalism by showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world. However, there are many
flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is
wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption
that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room. Jackson explains that
the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on
intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a qualia freak. He describes qualia as the
raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the hurtfulness of pains, the
itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing
the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences
bring for the person experiencing them. Jackson claims that qualia cannot be explained by any kind of
physical information, since our knowledge of the structure of the brain, its physical states, and the
function of those states is not enough to tell us what the smell

The Importance Of Teen Pregnancy
Disparities still persist to this day in social and economic context. The conditions that some teenagers
face in communities and families may contribute to teen pregnancy. Within the social domain, peers
are a big risk factor for teen pregnancy. Some factors include sexual pressure from peers, belief that
most peers are sexually active, friends who are sexually active, dating at an early age, and dating
someone who is a few years older than you (Southeastern Idaho Public Health, n.d.). Many teenagers
feel the pressure from their peers to have sex before they are ready. Those who decide to give into peer
pressure often are not informed about safe sexual behavior and therefore may become pregnant. The
same goes for those who believe that most of their peers are sexually active. Surveys have shown that
many teenagers report a greater percent than actual for the following question: What percent of your
peers do you think are sexually active? The pressure that comes from assuming that most of your
peers are sexually active can play a huge role in a teenager s decision to participate in early sexual
activity. Friends are just as much of a risk factor as family is. If a friend is sexually active, the pressure
to fit in and be similar to them starts developing. In these peer situations, it is most likely a teenager s
first time having sex. In that case, there is a lack of knowledge that puts teenagers at risk of becoming
pregnant. Dating at an early age can make a teenager curious

How Does Wuthering Heights Change Throughout The Novel
In many books, the settings and characters often relate to each other. Wuthering Heights by Emily
Brontë exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters.
Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In Brontë s Wuthering
Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff, Edgar Linton,
and Catherine Earnshaw.
First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering Heights.
The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff s incessant
aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be having
turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the weather there.
The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of physical traits.
Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Similarly, the house is not kept up, is always a mess
throughout the book, and is described as rustic looking by Nelly, The apartment and furniture would
have been nothing extraordinary as belonging to a homely, northern farmer with a stubborn
countenance (Brontë 3). The third way that Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights are alike is their low
level in society, so to speak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners Essay
The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners
James Joyce wrote a book of stories called Dubliners discussing different people s lives in Dublin. In
writing these stories, Joyce tries to portray in the characters a sense of sadness and pressure to do what
is expected in society. When he wrote the book it was during a rough time in Dublin. Therefore, the
issues that he discusses in the different stories show how the lives of the people were not as happy as
they all wished. In the stories Eveline, The Boarding House, and The Dead, each one of the characters

threaten her and say what he would to do her only for her dead mother s sake (30) even after that
Eveline still felt obligated to help her father. His meanness caused a depressing feeling over Eveline.
After her mother died and she was obligated to take on her mother s role, she says, It was hard work

Eveline also feels obligated to her friends and her fiancé Frank, which made her trying to make her

Comparison Of Gamefly Vs. Gamestop
GameFly vs GameStop, which is better?
I have received a lot of questions asking which of these companies is better.
Well the answer is really tough.
You have to decide which of these is going to actually save you money. I have provided a comparison
of each and then you can decide, which will save you the most.
Let s start with GameStop; it is a heavy hitter in the gaming consumer world. With presence online
and at retail store you can find one, even in the smallest of cities. It s main selling point is that it takes
trade in games and sells them a cheaper price then new games. The prices of trade in values for games,
consoles, and even smart phones and tablets are all listed on the website. That way you know exactly
what you ll be getting if you choose to trade with them. You can choose to take cash, which you ll
receive a smaller amount of return or store credit, which is slightly higher.
GameStop also offered a return program, where you if you purchase a Pre Owned game and you do
not like it, beat it too quickly whatever the case may be, you can return it within 7 days of purchase
date and receive a full refund. Unfortunately, that is not the case for new games, they must be
unopened and in the original condition unless there is some kind of defect with the game, however
there is a 30 day window in which to return.
Currently, GameStop is trying to sell a rewards program, the GameStop PowerUp Rewards. There is a

ABSTRACT
Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) is a new machining technique. Abrasive Water Jet Machining
is widely used in many industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting, shaping, and reaming.
AWJM is the extended version of Water Jet Machining. AWJM is a non conventional machining
process where the material is removed by impact erosion of the high velocity, high pressure of water
and entrained high velocity of fine grit abrasives such as sand (SiO2) or beads of glass on a work
piece. The Important process parameters which mainly affect the quality of cutting are hydraulic
pressure, traverse speed, standoff distance, abrasive flow rate and types of abrasive material used in
the process. The Important quality parameters in AWJM are Material Removal Rate (MRR), Surface
Roughness (SR), kerf width and tapering of the kerf. This paper reviews the research work carried out
so far in the area AWJM.
Keywords: AWJM, Material Removal Rate, Surface Roughness, traverse speed, Kerf width
INTRODUCTION Abrasive Water Jet Machining is a non conventional process. AWJM works on
principles of abrasive jet machining and water jet machining. In AWJM, material is removed by
impact erosion of high pressure and high velocity of water and entrained high velocity of grit

The Power Of The Prime Minister Has Too Much Power
Introduction One of the most powerful and influential members of the Canadian government is the
Prime Minster of Canada. It has been stated that the Prime Minister of Canada has far more power
within the Canadian system of government than the President of America has in the American System
(Caron, 2017). This excess power the Prime Minister has when compared to the President of American
shows the difference ranges of power top leaders can have in their specific country. However, is the
amount of power the Prime Minister has in Canada too much? To determine if the Prime Minister has
too much power there are a few things that need to be considered. The first is the responsibilities of
the Prime Minister and the power these responsibly give the position. Looking at how much power the
Prime Minister has in relation to the amount of responsibilities placed on that government role will
give insights into the necessities of that power. Next, reviewing the history of powers the Prime
Minister has over the years will show a timeline of a gradual increase in power. Finally, to determine
if the Prime Minister has too much power recent events must be discussed in which the Prime Minister
has abused their powers. To fully understand how the amount of power the Prime Minister has can
impact the government, there will be a focus on one specific example of who calls elections
throughout. Overall, in examining the responsibilities and powers of the Prime Minister in relation to

Ethical Issues With Ethnographic Research
Participants and Sampling
The survey will be administered to UOIT and Durham College students who will be recruited using a
non probability convenience sample, via Facebook and email. The sample will also be purposively
selected to ensure diversity. Only participants between the ages of 18 36 are eligible to participate.
Participants over the age of 36 are not eligible to participate in this research.
These students will be asked questions regarding their social media use, perceptions of face to face
communication in the presence of technology, perceptions of social connectedness in the presence of
technology, and engagement both face to face and screen to screen, which would help better answer
the question of whether technology has a negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the use of a purposive sample of self selected subjects to participate in the study could
bring about potential biases. Another potential bias is possible since individuals were only contacted
through Facebook and email. Only those who regularly checked their social media were included in
the study, those who weren t active users were excluded from the study.
Another salient point is that interviews allow researchers to easily obtain responses directly from
personal experiences, but, these memories from personal experiences can be easily manipulated.
Moreover, while interviews lead to exploratory findings which are good for follow up studies, it can
also be extremely time consuming for a researcher.
Lastly, ethnographic observations also present several drawbacks. Aside from the ethical issues,
ethnographic observations can also be viewed as too subjective and time consuming.
There can also be a potential gender bias if the female to male ratio is not

Connotation Of The Word Judgement Essay
Words have various connotations, and these connotations help people to perceive implications behind
a specific sentence. Whether read or spoken, the word esteemed holds more credibility associated than
famous, just as plain can be viewed more negatively than simple. Take out the words and people start
depending on other clues to formulate an opinion on a particular person or situation. Body language
can be a major part of this judgement, conveying mood, comfortability, formality, and so on. Clothing
choice, too, contributes to the way people perceive one another. People use cliche titles such as
hispter, emo, and basic to describe a person, going off of wardrobe alone. Despite the connotation of
the word judgement, not all judgement is inherently negative. One could argue that judging people is a
primal instinct, set in place for people to determine who they ought to spend time with and who they

Those people we deem most visually intimidating, for one reason or another, could have some
remarkable qualities, causing our judgement could lead us astray from potentially amiable or hilarious
company. With that in mind, it s important to remember that even though clothing choices are a
statement, they are not an instrument meant for harmful assumptions or a judgement of character.
To prove this concept, Amber Rose and Blac Chyna made an appearance at the 2015 VMAs wearing
tight fitted, yet revealing clothing, demonstrated in the picture attached. On the clothing are printed

Romans 14-17
Children of God
Romans 8:16 tells us that The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of
God. This is a doctrine that receives strong emphasis in the LDS church. From the time they enter
Primary they sing the hymn I am a Child of God. In Young Women s they recite We are daughters of
our Heavenly Father, who loves us and we love him. As LDS members, they live their lives knowing
that they have a loving Father in Heaven. Though other Christian churches share the belief that God is
the Father, their understanding of this fact is different than the LDS view. Other churches interpret the
scripture block Romans 8:14 17 to mean that we are adopted children of God, whose adoption is
conditional on our good behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To claim a God as our parent is either to claim ourselves as Godkind, or claim that God is human.
However, we are told that God made us in His own image, not just in appearance, but in form. LDS
members do not believe that God is Eternal Spirit (ucg) but rather that he is material and humanoid
(bills). Though there is a difference between God and mankind, LDS doctrine tells us that The
difference...may be one of advancement...rather than one of kind or ontological difference (white). We
are the offspring of God, not just in form, but also in disposition: Bills tells us that contrary to the
popular belief of learned men, man is created in both the physical and moral image of God (Bills). In
all senses of the word, we are a chip off the old block. Though not yet posessing the power of God, as
his children, we have the potential to be Gods. The number one thing we must understand is that even
though God is infinitely more than us, he is also similar to us. He is our Father, and we are His
children, therefore there must be similarity. However, if you believe that we are merely adopted
children of God, we lose out on this great insight into the character of

Observation Of Teaching A Teacher s Classroom
I have a good friend, Courtney, who is doing her student teaching in a fourth grade classroom at
Faubion elementary school, and she arranged for me to come in to observe her cooperating teacher s
classroom. On Friday, December 1st at 10 o clock I had the opportunity to observe Mrs. Makara s
classroom for 45 minutes while the class was doing reading stations. The class is organized into six
table groups with five students in each group. Mrs. Makara s overhead screen hangs in the front of the
room near her table. I noticed that the class was arranged this way in order for all the students to all
easily see the screen as well as collaborate with one another for the assignments and projects that are
assigned in class. When I came into the classroom Mrs. Makara was finishing up teaching a math
lesson. She was using a document camera to project the worksheet that students had in front of them
on screen. She was also using a microphone while talking to the class. Courtney later informed me
that was because one of their students has a hearing impairment so both Courtney and Mrs. Makara
use the microphone when speaking to the class. Mrs. Makara assigned a couple of math problems for
the students to work with their table groups to figure out. After each group figured out the answer to
the problem Mrs. Makara asked for one volunteer to come up and project their work on the overhead
projector. The student showed her work and talked through how her group figured out the solution.
Afterward, Mrs. Makara asked all the students to put away their math work and get ready for reading
stations.
While the students were working to put away their math work Mrs. Makara used her computer to pull
up a slide showing the different reading stations. When I asked my friend about how the students were
split into groups she informed me that they split them up based on their reading levels because in their
class the reading levels are at a wide spectrum. There are some students who are reading at a sixth
grade level and others that are reading at a K 1 level. Therefore, the only way they could differentiate
reading instruction was by splitting the students into groups based on their reading levels and having
them go to the stations that

The Decision Making Process as It Relates to Planning
Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among
alternatives. Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified problem
that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final choice, which
is called a decision. Planning is an integral part of the process. Without an organized plan, a final
decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very similar, yet very
distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. If the two processes are implemented
properly, they can complement each other so that goals can be realized in the most efficient and
effective manner possible. Planning involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identifying the decision criteria and allocating weights to the criteria are components of the specific
plans within the planning process. Identifying what is relevant to the purchase and giving each priority
the correct weight helped the plan to come to fruition. Every element of the process must be specified
so that the best decision will be made. The fourth step in the decision making process required very
specific planning and research. Identifying viable alternatives that have the correct criteria is very
important when making such a large investment. Our company wanted to review three different
products that could resolve our reporting problems, yet we were only able to find two, Deltek and
Microsoft s Navision. Once the two products were identified, demonstrations were set up to begin the
fifth step of the process. Analyzing the alternatives is accomplished by appraising each product against
the criteria outlined in step two and three of the process. Deltek and Navision are similar products in
that they both provide similar reports and information needed. Yet, they are substantially different
products. Deltek is a financial accounting software program and Navision is an ERP (Enterprise
Resource Planning) system that attempts to integrate all data and processes of an organization into a
single unified system. In terms of price, Deltek is

Media Influences our Children
Media Effect on Today s Youth Media plays a strong hand in the development of a child in society.
Youth are easily influenced and could think actions of unsavory morals are appropriate because it was
in media. This is a major problem today as the news make reports of children intentionally committing
crimes as big as murder. Children are experimenting with drugs and alcohol at an earlier age and there
is even a show dedicated to teen moms on MTV. Of course, media is not the only force at fault here as
peers and parents are just as much to blame as media. The media is full of violence, sex and the use of
addictive substances, that affects youth negatively. Being a youth in today s society is challenging. On

years. It becomes a problem when children as young as twelve or even younger is having sex and

year old should. There is a running joke among social media, The joke involves the clothing and
behavior of students from older generations compared to this generation. How long ago a dress or skirt
that showed your knees was considered trashy and now shorter is a common fashion statement even
among preteens. The media help promote this as teens in media are shown following this fashion
statement. Cartoons are not absent of messages of sexual related content, but they are a bit more
covert about it. Teenage pregnancies are big problems and are even being used on television for
entertainment. As youth start experiencing the urge to have sex more with the increase of violence,
there is becoming a higher rate of youth rapes. The media does not cause these events to happen, but
there is a contribution that can be reduced that will benefit the youth of america better than doing

Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement Essay
African American people have come a long way from the illiterate slaves, who were once picking
cotton in fields, to powerful political leaders. A prime example would be President Barack Obama, the
first African American president of the United States of America. But first we must ask ourselves, how
did this occur? Who lead African Americans to better living standards? Civil rights leaders, such as
Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks, just to name a few. However, among these great
names in history, there is one that stands out, and that man is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King gave

A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display
many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or
letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking
from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and
see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World
War 1.
Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book
sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead
bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious
business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s
fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book
that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking
lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling
immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying
how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s
comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is
the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul
describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their
lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we
call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were
many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches.
Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with
lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it

Greed In Voltaire s Candide And Lady Cunegonde
Greed is the main cause of evil in the world because it brings the worst in each and every individual.
These individuals are capable of anything to accomplish their goals, and self suffice their needs such
as wealth, social class, etc. An example of greed in Candide is when the old woman tells Lady
Cunegonde I confess that, if I were in your place, I should have no hesitation in marrying the
Governor and making the captain s fortune (Voltaire, p. 58). In this case the old woman gives advice
to Lady Cunegonde that she should marry a stranger just to get away from poverty. Lady Cunegonde
is a beautiful, young lady, and because of this she is desired by many men, one of whom is the
Governor of Buenos Ayres, as a result she can gain benefits from her beauty. It is unbelievable that she
is capable of getting married to a man just because of his social position and wealth.
The role of optimism in Candide is that everything happens for a reason; even terrible events that
happen have a reason behind it that leads to a better outcome. In the text Cacambo asked What is
optimism and Candide answered It s the passion for maintaining that all is right when all goes wrong
with us (Voltaire, p. 86). With that being said an example would be when Candide was begging for
food and the minister who he asked for food ended up humiliating him, this caused Candide to meet
an individual named James, who intervened in his defense. James took him in, cared for him and

Of Identity And Diversity John Locke
In his essay Of Identity and Diversity, Locke talks about the importance of personal identity. The title
of his essay gives an idea of his view. Identity, according to Locke, is the memory and self
consciousness, and diversity is the faculty to transfer memories across bodies and souls. In order to
make his point more understandable, Locke defines man and person. Locke identifies a man as an
animal of a certain form and a person as a thinking intelligent being. Furthermore, to Locke, a person
has reasons and reflections and can consider itself as being itself in different times and places; and
he/she does it with his/her consciousness (429). Basically, personal self is a particular body and
personal identity is consciousness. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the one hand, if in the past one lived by acting in a
good way one hopes to be rewarded in the future. And on the other hand, if one lived by acting in a
bad way one fears to be punished in the future. For instance, John acted in a bad way when he was 20,
he committed war crimes; hence, he should expect to be punished for his actions. But Locke s analysis
is not that simple; according to his definition of personal identity, people should be held responsible
for their actions only if they remember doing those actions. Consequently, based on Locke s view,
John should not be punished for the war crimes he committed since he does not remember what he did
at 20. In this example, Locke does not punish John, who committed terrible war crimes, just because
he does not remember. Is Locke s judgment fair to people who committed the same crimes but
remember what they did? Or, is his judgment fair to the victim s families? Locke s judgment is only
based on whether or not the wrong doer remembers his actions; it does not take into account other
important elements; that is one of the reasons why Locke s theory about personal identity has been
criticized.
Locke s view on personal identity has strengths but it also has several weaknesses or limitations. One
important strength is when Locke states that a person should be held responsible for his/her actions if
he/she recalls doing those actions. In this case, the person

The Current Solution American Citizens
The current solution American citizens have resulted to for riding the nation of undocumented
immigrants is deportation, even if this means separating a family. This affliction happens all too often
in America: a child is separated from his or her parents, sometimes lucky enough to have family
members to look after them, and other times orphaned. 4.5 million American citizens have at least one
undocumented parent according to estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center. And unfortunately, 438,421
deportations in the year 2013 alone left 5,100 children in foster care (Pew Hispanic Center).
Diane Guerrero, an actress on Orange is the New Black, is the daughter of two undocumented
immigrants (Guerrero). Diane s parents migrated in pursuit of the American dream because in
Columbia they combated economic hardship (Guerrero). Her family sought the economic equity and
social mobility that was offered to all persons in America. Tragically, Diane s parents tried to become
legal but to no avail (Guerrero). Their attorneys only pocketed their money and did not help their
cause (Guerrero). As a child, Diane lived in fear that the American government would deport her
family (Guerrero). This horror was all too soon realized for Diane when she was merely 14 years old:
after coming home from school one day, her family was nowhere to be found; the immigration officers
had robbed her of them (Guerrero). On top of dealing with the emotional distress of separation, no

Toads and Toads Revisited Comparison (Philip Larkin)
Toads and Toads Revisited are poems in Philip Larkin s collection that describes both the perks and
burdens of a work life. Larkin s view of work in Toads is seen as a heavy load whereas in Toads
Revisited , it is seen as something that keeps him occupied and helps him though life. Toads Revisited
was written after Larkin became a firmly established chief librarian of the Hull Library and he had no
further to go because he had already reached the top position. His attitude to work had undergone
subtle changes from eight years ago to Toads Revisited. In this poem, Larkin has managed to escape
from the monotony of his desk, perhaps during lunch or break. He takes a walk around the park where

The word starves between two underscores adds emphasis and that people go hungry but no one goes
through starvation. Larkin also does not hide the idea that his hard work goes to pensioners. The idea
of shouting stuff your pension! is a rather disrespectful thought towards elderly people, enhanced by
the exclamation marks. However, Larkin uses a quote from Shakespearean literature, the stuff that
dreams are made on from the Tempest, Act 4, Scene 1 spoken as part of Prospero s resignation speech
refers to a scenario can only be fantasised and wished. Stuff refers to the materials that go into
creating an illusion, not to the object of a wish. Regardless of his complains, Larkin understands and
knows that something toad like exists in him as well and squats within himself. Larkin s play on the
alliteration of h suggests the sound of heaving and heaviness. The toad in him will never allow him to
blag his way through getting all the things he wants in life. He is never going to be able to shake off
work because of this toad in him that drives him to continue doing mundane tasks every day. He
knows he will be constantly discontent and dissatisfied with his life. With one toad sitting on his life
and the other sitting inside him, Larkin states that the spiritual truth of either truth is embodied by the
other and that it is hard to lose either, when you have both. In Larkin s case, it was

Processed Food Is Bad For You Summary
Response to Why is Processed Food so Bad for you? Upon reading the ingredient list of my favorite
Ritz crackers, I noticed there were some strange ingredients, such as riboflavin and mononitrate.
These ingredients sound like elements from the periodic table, not ingredients that go in a simple Ritz
cracker. Many consumers don t realize what are the true ingredients that go into many of their favorite
foods. Michael Hobbes is a journalist and an animator that writes for the Huffington Post. In Hobbes
article, Why is Processed Food so Bad for you? , he concentrates on how processed food can be
unhealthy for many consumers. Though Hobbes explains how processed food is unhealthy, and also
the difficulty of finding organic food; Hobbes overlooks the key issue of the high cost of healthy food.
First Hobbes explains processed food is unhealthy. Hobbes explains by using one of his examples, and
another example would be how much fast food restaurant there are and how consumers go out to eat
more than once a week. One of the examples Hobbes uses to explain how preservatives have to go
into almost every food that goes into the market is his marinara sauce. Hobbes describes that if he

have any nitrates they are still not considered healthy. This is false advertisement and many consumers
believe it is true and buy these more expensive foods. Consumers will buy anything that is considered
a good price and if store bought bread is a better price than making the bread, consumers will go the

Analysis Of Walt Whitman s I Hear America Poem
If I m to be honest, this school year has been very enjoyable, much more than any of my previous
classes. We ve gone through so much as a class, had many assignments along the way some that I
enjoyed, while others not so much. We rewrote the Declaration of Independence, Walt Whitman s I
Hear America poem, and argumentative essays, like out The Raven analysis. We also gave speeches
that was the hardest for me, in my previous English classes, none of them made me go in front of the
class and present , made infograph, and even a multigenre project. We also can t forget the books we
ve read in class, like poems from Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, and novels from
F. Scott Fitzgerald, and we can t forget novella like Of Mice and Men or short stories that we read in
our English textbook. All of these things have tested my ability to better improve myself or inform me
on where I struggle with so I can improve in many categories such as being a speaker, reader, writer,
and listener.
The presentations we ve done have improved my position as a speaker and listener. As I said before,
my previous English classes never had me present. The only presentation I ever did in my previous

Essay on The Beginning of Hip Hop Culture and B-Boy Battling
Music screeching through the room, crowds going wild, and anticipation growing inside while holding
a b boy stance in the South Bronx. A young boy holds his ground as his peers dance to the music, but
as the break segment of the song awakens, the young boy rushes to the middle of the dance floor. As
few people know, this is established the start of a worldwide phenomenon and lifestyle. Hip hop is a
misunderstood culture that has been driven out from its roots by media and the new generation.
Society knows little behind the birth of hip hop, but as for the dance portion of hip hop, b boying is the
true art form. Clive Kool Herc Campbell, an African American DJ known to hip hop pioneers as the
father of hip hop, gave the name b boy to $$#Break#$$ Stretching is vital for a b boy or a b girl as
well, and even for the simplest moves, not stretching could cause you to injure a party of your body. It
also gives more of the opportunity to create something new and original. Training is essential to
perfect moves and to create something your own, even if all that training makes you feel that it can
only workout the body. Listening to music trains the mind much more than providing a clean set or
combination. Mood and attitude affect the way a dancer dances, and since hip hop is so raw and clean,
b boys and b girls train in a matter to be raw and clean versus being so plain with their ideas. The
mind works just as hard as the body to create what to do in a split second. Endurance is surely there,
especially in the moment of a battle. The competitive nature of hip hop can be somewhat violent at
times, but only because it reflects what street dancers go through and do everyday just to be on top of
the cliff. A battle can get mean; you can get your opponent so humiliating that they will want to fight
you (Swift, Ken. The Vibe History of Hip Hop 55). To any b boy the battle is the very test in your
abilities as a dancer. Competition, of course, is an

Analysis of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe s 1958 novel Things Fall Apart marked a significant turning point not only for
literature, but the world, because the novel is an attempt to blend the conflicting identities and
ideologies of Africa in the wake of colonization. The novel depicts the destructive tension that arises
between the traditions of the Igbo people and white colonizers, but, perhaps contrary to the reader s
expectation, it does not present either side as holding the ethical high ground. Rather, the novel
suggests that both the Igbo and the white missionaries perpetuate repressive ideologies, and
furthermore, that the destructive effects of these ideologies are visited upon both Ikemefuna and
Okonkwo. Okonkwo s larger narrative arc actually suggests an ideal third path that discards the ,
because the novel blends elements of African and Western literature in order to tell a story that is
simultaneously a tragedy in the Greek sense and clearly, essentially African. By examining Okonkwo
s story in detail, it will be possible to see how Achebe uses the particular narrative elements of Things
Fall Apart in order to demonstrate a potential bridge between the two societies which in the novel are
seemingly so far apart. To state that the 1958 publication of Things Fall Apart was a significant
moment for literature and the world is not a particularly bold statement, because its centrality to the
understanding of African society pre and post colonialism, as well as its particular historical

6 Single Mother Myths Busted by Online Dating
Dating as a single mother is fraught with lots of potential hazard and stigma. Before online dating has

get too much luck.
The stigma that comes along with being a single mother drives real men away and makes it ultra
impossible for single moms to get another shot at happiness. Only until the dawn of online dating did
these single moms stumble upon real and ever lasting love.
Online dating has not only become a fad. It has become a tool for real men to get to know their dates

It is worth knowing that real men consider online dating because they, too, are longing for someone to
genuinely care for them.
Being a single mother gives off the idea that men just will never be in the top of their priorities,
especially when there are children always groping for their mother s attention, not to mention the job,
the kitchen sink, the stopped up toilet, etc.
There are way too many rivals to compete against and discerning men would not go for any woman
who can only promise her second best attention and affection.
3. Single mothers are just never available.
A single mother s schedule is never open. They are the kind to cancel dates at the last minute. How
can you have a relationship with someone who cannot even be there? In order to make sure you of that
rare shot to be loved again, single women need to invest time and effort.
Most men are put off by the lack of time being returned to them by single mothers and this becomes
bomb ticker. With the advent of online dating, single mothers are able to commit their time to a man
they really think finally deserves them. Single mothers have never been more available.
4. Single mothers are emotionally unavailable.
Single mothers usually have their primary focus on her children. This is a negative thing for men who

Analyze Attitudes and Responses Toward the Poor in Europe...
During the mid 15th century to the early 18th century almost half of Europe s total population could
be considered poor and destitute. The attitudes of the clergy and the attitudes of the socially elite
toward these people varied from pity to disgust, and their proposed solution to these problems
differed. Some suggested helping all of the poor by giving them alms, some warned others to be
careful of whom the money was given to and some people believed that being poor was a voluntary
decision and if they wanted to get out of that situation, they do so without the help of others. In
particular the clergy supported alms giving, government officials and the nobility advocated controlled
giving, and some of the middle class were suspicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(d 11) He notes that the poor often talk about how accustomed they were to that lifestyle in that they
can be independent and sleep where wherever they want because they have no worries. This view of
the poor can be debated because during the mid 1500s, a peasant revolt occurred and was violently
suppressed when Martin Luther expressed his distain for the stupid peasants and their
misinterpretation of his teachings. In 1625, cardinal Richelieu suggested that people should give
discerningly to the poor because the vagabonds were taking advantage of the situation and were being
helped out by the kindhearted. (d 8) As time progressed new ideas came into society. Instead of giving
freely to the poor, they should be made to work for their money, as Emperor Charles V expressed in
his imperial decree for Netherlands. (d 4) Experience shows that begging for alms . . . errors and
abused will result . . . therefore, he proposed that only the sick and those unable to work should
receive aid. An English doctor noted that beggars, who came to his house, expressed a desire to live a
sick but easy life rather than to get well and have to work hard to earn a

Phonology
1 Introduction: Phonology is the study of how sounds function within a given language. The study of
English phonology for our purposes can be divided into two broad approaches: segmental and
suprasegmental. Segmental phonology is a bottom up view of phonology which deals with the
individual sounds which make a difference to meaning. These are called phonemes and their effect can
be seen clearly in the following example: * Red (colour). * Read (past tense of the verb to read). *
Read (present tense of the verb to read). The pronunciation of 1 and 2 is the same; they are
homophones. The spelling of 2 and 3 is the same; they are homographs. All three examples are made
of 3 distinct phonemes /r/ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English diphthongs are:
Tripthongs also exist. These are diphthongs followed by a schwa /əә/. Some examples of tripthongs
are shower, lower, lawyer. The schwa is the most common phoneme in English. Essentially it is the
default unstressed or weak vowel sound. In British English, the schwa can be found at the end of all
words ending er (e.g., father, mother); note that we do not pronounce
4
To illustrate the schwa, imagine your mouth as a car gear box. The schwa is the sound where neutral
would be in a gear box.

The schwa also occurs in the middle and at the beginning of words and holds the key to many of our
students listening problems. Task 3: What difficulties can the schwa (or other weak sounds) cause in
your teaching context? How do you deal with these difficulties?
Stress timing and syllable timing
English is said to be a stress timed language. This means that the timing between stressed words is
regular. Crucially, however, the number of syllable between stresses is not regular (like in Italian
which is syllable timed). The most common illustration of this is the following exercise:
5
At a normal pace (not too fast) try counting:
One Two Three Four
Now add the word and .
One and Two and Three and Four and
Next add then
One and then Two and then Three and then Four and then
Finally, add a
One and then a Two and then a Three and then a Four and then

Case Study On Cheese
INTRODUCTION:
Cheese is a very popular food in daily life. Cheese is a solid food made from milk. It is usually white
or yellow. Cheese, one of which is also known as cheese, is a fermented dairy product that is similar in
properties to regular yogurt and is made by a fermentation process that also contains hygienic lactic
acid bacteria but at a higher concentration of cheese than yogurt, Similar to the solid food, so the
nutritional value is more abundant. Each kilogram of cheese products is concentrated from 10
kilograms of milk, rich in protein, calcium, fat, phosphorus and vitamins and other nutrients is a
natural food. In terms of craftsmanship, the cheese is fermented milk; in terms of nutrition, the cheese
is concentrated milk. Now, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Russia s ban on the import of dairy products, the demand for dairy products has dropped
dramatically, reducing the cost of placing cheese on the shelves in the British hypermarket. However,
the study found that supermarkets charged more than 12 months ago, indicating that retailers are
getting extra profits at the expense of their customers.
TARGET MARKET: The main target markets for cheese are commercial customers and household. In
regard to the sake of commercial customers, because their lives are fast, and nowadays most
restaurants offer fast food, cheese in fast foods is almost essential. For example, there is cheese in a
McDonald s hamburgers, so the restaurants daily need cheese. On the other hand, children and young
people now like to eat snacks or eat breakfast, such as cheese biscuits and sandwiches. In addition,
parents are now interested in bringing their children to make their own food with cheese (Rumman,
Ahmed, Riffat, Rezanoor, Howlader, 2014).

Psychological Theories Of Violence
Psychological theories of violence examine the internal characteristics that influence criminal
behavior. From this perspective, criminal behavior is viewed as a product of psychological deficits in
development, biological predispositions, psychopathic personality traits, environmental influences,
learned behavior, and overall, one s mental processing of a situation. Though this theory ignores the
situational factors of an event that might influence criminal behavior and focuses on the individual
psyche. A crime of passion, for instance, is a crime motivated by situational factors. It is a type of
violence committed in the moment as a result of anger, frustration, and anxiety. Although the
described emotions are a form of internal expression which accumulated in reaction to the situation,
the psychological theory of violence examines the perpetrators processing of the event leading to the
crime itself rather than the external factors that might have been present to provoke the emotions. ...

The first section consists of the uncertain state of war that the squad finds themselves in. This is shown by the opinions among the soldiers about what it will be like when they actually go to war. The first section also includes the shock of how different the real war is then what it is portrayed as. Peewee summed it up by saying, I didn t think they was going to have no real fighting in this here war. • 3. Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com). Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse, individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). Cultural And Social Capital Theory Chen (2003) used the frameworks of cultural and social capital theory to explore factors affecting the academic success of Chinese students in Los Angeles Community College. The results of the study indicated that the aspirations of obtaining a higher level academic degree and then transferring to a four year college or university were considered as the best predictors of academic success for Chinese international students. Whereas, English proficiency was considered to be a weak factor and social interaction factors were not too much related to Chinese international students academic success. Yuan (2011) examined the experiences of ten Chinese students at one American university. This study examined the challenges faced by Chinese international students, their social interaction, and their attitudes to adapting into the American culture and society. The result indicated that Chinese participants identified spoken English and class discussion as their major challenges while studying at American higher education institutions. Besides, they stated limited interaction with Americans. However, most of them highly praised the American educational system and regarded their experiences in the United States as being worthwhile. It is also worth noting that the Chinese participants expressed mixed perceptions of American culture and different attitudes to cultural assimilation. The first activity is growing of kiwifruit which pertains to the orchards and includes pest and disease control and harvesting. The final stage and perhaps the most intrinsic stage includes the exporting. This includes the selling and distribution of the kiwifruit to overseas markets. Zespri International group is responsible for marketing almost all the export quality fruit from New Zeland. The only exclusion being the Austrailian Market. COMPANY STRATEGY Ensuring success was not always easy for Zespri. In fact it can be said that the mere creation itself of Zespri by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry was a branding strategy created to regain the lost opportunity taken by New Zealands lower cost counter parts; Chile and Italy (cvtb). It seemed as though the new strategy was a valid attempt to develope and sustain a market orientation within the broad Kiwifruit industry.Zespri s structure was always said to be from the Market to the orchard as opposed to traditionally being the other way around (cvtb). The brand strategy s main aim was to differentiate New Zealand s own kiwifruit as being something iconic and premium as a product. The aim furthered out to moving Zespri out from ... • 9. Analysis Of Epiphenomenal Qualia By Frank Jackson In the paper Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson presents the concept of Qualia and the knowledge argument in order to prove physicalism false. Jackson s knowledge argument introduces a thought experiment about a neuroscientist called Mary. His thought experiment is designed to refute physicalism by showing that there is non physical knowledge in the world. However, there are many flaws in Jackson s thought experiment that lead to its ultimate failure in proving that physicalism is wrong, such as its appeal to a misleading intuition, the ambiguity of its premises, and the assumption that it is possible to gain all physical knowledge of color from a colorless room. Jackson explains that the goal of his paper is to refute physicalism by using an argument rather than relying merely on intuitions. He makes a declaration that he is what people call a qualia freak. He describes qualia as the raw feel or quality of experiences that we have. There is something that the hurtfulness of pains, the itchiness of itches, pangs of jealousy... tasting a lemon, smelling a rose, hearing a loud noise or seeing the sky feels like (127). There s a natural feeling or a sensation that all these conscious experiences bring for the person experiencing them. Jackson claims that qualia cannot be explained by any kind of physical information, since our knowledge of the structure of the brain, its physical states, and the function of those states is not enough to tell us what the smell ... • 14. The Importance Of Teen Pregnancy Disparities still persist to this day in social and economic context. The conditions that some teenagers face in communities and families may contribute to teen pregnancy. Within the social domain, peers are a big risk factor for teen pregnancy. Some factors include sexual pressure from peers, belief that most peers are sexually active, friends who are sexually active, dating at an early age, and dating someone who is a few years older than you (Southeastern Idaho Public Health, n.d.). Many teenagers feel the pressure from their peers to have sex before they are ready. Those who decide to give into peer pressure often are not informed about safe sexual behavior and therefore may become pregnant. The same goes for those who believe that most of their peers are sexually active. Surveys have shown that many teenagers report a greater percent than actual for the following question: What percent of your peers do you think are sexually active? The pressure that comes from assuming that most of your peers are sexually active can play a huge role in a teenager s decision to participate in early sexual activity. Friends are just as much of a risk factor as family is. If a friend is sexually active, the pressure to fit in and be similar to them starts developing. In these peer situations, it is most likely a teenager s first time having sex. In that case, there is a lack of knowledge that puts teenagers at risk of becoming pregnant. • 15. How Does Wuthering Heights Change Throughout The Novel In many books, the settings and characters often relate to each other. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters. Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff, Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw. First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering Heights. The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff s incessant aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be having turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the weather there. The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of physical traits. Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Similarly, the house is not kept up, is always a mess throughout the book, and is described as rustic looking by Nelly, The apartment and furniture would have been nothing extraordinary as belonging to a homely, northern farmer with a stubborn countenance (Brontë 3). Let s start with GameStop; it is a heavy hitter in the gaming consumer world. With presence online and at retail store you can find one, even in the smallest of cities. It s main selling point is that it takes trade in games and sells them a cheaper price then new games. Unfortunately, that is not the case for new games, they must be unopened and in the original condition unless there is some kind of defect with the game, however there is a 30 day window in which to return. It has been stated that the Prime Minister of Canada has far more power within the Canadian system of government than the President of America has in the American System (Caron, 2017). This excess power the Prime Minister has when compared to the President of American shows the difference ranges of power top leaders can have in their specific country. However, is the amount of power the Prime Minister has in Canada too much? To determine if the Prime Minister has too much power there are a few things that need to be considered. The first is the responsibilities of the Prime Minister and the power these responsibly give the position. Looking at how much power the Prime Minister has in relation to the amount of responsibilities placed on that government role will give insights into the necessities of that power. Next, reviewing the history of powers the Prime Minister has over the years will show a timeline of a gradual increase in power. Finally, to determine if the Prime Minister has too much power recent events must be discussed in which the Prime Minister has abused their powers. To fully understand how the amount of power the Prime Minister has can impact the government, there will be a focus on one specific example of who calls elections throughout. Body language can be a major part of this judgement, conveying mood, comfortability, formality, and so on. Clothing choice, too, contributes to the way people perceive one another. People use cliche titles such as hispter, emo, and basic to describe a person, going off of wardrobe alone. Despite the connotation of the word judgement, not all judgement is inherently negative. This is a doctrine that receives strong emphasis in the LDS church. From the time they enter Primary they sing the hymn I am a Child of God. In Young Women s they recite We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us and we love him. As LDS members, they live their lives knowing that they have a loving Father in Heaven. However, we are told that God made us in His own image, not just in appearance, but in form. Though there is a difference between God and mankind, LDS doctrine tells us that The difference...may be one of advancement...rather than one of kind or ontological difference (white). In all senses of the word, we are a chip off the old block. Though not yet posessing the power of God, as his children, we have the potential to be Gods. The number one thing we must understand is that even though God is infinitely more than us, he is also similar to us. He is our Father, and we are His children, therefore there must be similarity. • 23. Observation Of Teaching A Teacher s Classroom I have a good friend, Courtney, who is doing her student teaching in a fourth grade classroom at Faubion elementary school, and she arranged for me to come in to observe her cooperating teacher s classroom. On Friday, December 1st at 10 o clock I had the opportunity to observe Mrs. Makara s classroom for 45 minutes while the class was doing reading stations. The class is organized into six table groups with five students in each group. Mrs. Makara s overhead screen hangs in the front of the room near her table. I noticed that the class was arranged this way in order for all the students to all easily see the screen as well as collaborate with one another for the assignments and projects that are assigned in class. When I came into the classroom Mrs. Makara was finishing up teaching a math lesson. She was using a document camera to project the worksheet that students had in front of them on screen. She was also using a microphone while talking to the class. Courtney later informed me that was because one of their students has a hearing impairment so both Courtney and Mrs. Makara use the microphone when speaking to the class. Mrs. Makara assigned a couple of math problems for the students to work with their table groups to figure out. After each group figured out the answer to the problem Mrs. Makara asked for one volunteer to come up and project their work on the overhead projector. The student showed her work and talked through how her group figured out the solution. Afterward, Mrs. Makara asked all the students to put away their math work and get ready for reading stations. While the students were working to put away their math work Mrs. Makara used her computer to pull up a slide showing the different reading stations. When I asked my friend about how the students were split into groups she informed me that they split them up based on their reading levels because in their class the reading levels are at a wide spectrum. There are some students who are reading at a sixth grade level and others that are reading at a K 1 level. Therefore, the only way they could differentiate reading instruction was by splitting the students into groups based on their reading levels and having them go to the stations that ... Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified problem that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final choice, which is called a decision. Planning is an integral part of the process. Without an organized plan, a final decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very similar, yet very distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1. Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. These individuals are capable of anything to accomplish their goals, and self suffice their needs such as wealth, social class, etc. An example of greed in Candide is when the old woman tells Lady Cunegonde I confess that, if I were in your place, I should have no hesitation in marrying the Governor and making the captain s fortune (Voltaire, p. 58). In this case the old woman gives advice to Lady Cunegonde that she should marry a stranger just to get away from poverty. Lady Cunegonde is a beautiful, young lady, and because of this she is desired by many men, one of whom is the Governor of Buenos Ayres, as a result she can gain benefits from her beauty. It is unbelievable that she is capable of getting married to a man just because of his social position and wealth. The role of optimism in Candide is that everything happens for a reason; even terrible events that happen have a reason behind it that leads to a better outcome. In the text Cacambo asked What is optimism and Candide answered It s the passion for maintaining that all is right when all goes wrong with us (Voltaire, p. 86). Identity, according to Locke, is the memory and self consciousness, and diversity is the faculty to transfer memories across bodies and souls. In order to make his point more understandable, Locke defines man and person. Locke identifies a man as an animal of a certain form and a person as a thinking intelligent being. On the one hand, if in the past one lived by acting in a good way one hopes to be rewarded in the future. And on the other hand, if one lived by acting in a bad way one fears to be punished in the future. For instance, John acted in a bad way when he was 20, he committed war crimes; hence, he should expect to be punished for his actions. But Locke s analysis is not that simple; according to his definition of personal identity, people should be held responsible for their actions only if they remember doing those actions. Consequently, based on Locke s view, John should not be punished for the war crimes he committed since he does not remember what he did at 20. In this example, Locke does not punish John, who committed terrible war crimes, just because he does not remember. Is Locke s judgment fair to people who committed the same crimes but remember what they did? Or, is his judgment fair to the victim s families? Locke s judgment is only based on whether or not the wrong doer remembers his actions; it does not take into account other important elements; that is one of the reasons why Locke s theory about personal identity has been criticized. Locke s view on personal identity has strengths but it also has several weaknesses or limitations. One important strength is when Locke states that a person should be held responsible for his/her actions if he/she recalls doing those actions. In this case, the person ... Analysis of Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe s 1958 novel Things Fall Apart marked a significant turning point not only for literature, but the world, because the novel is an attempt to blend the conflicting identities and ideologies of Africa in the wake of colonization. The novel depicts the destructive tension that arises between the traditions of the Igbo people and white colonizers, but, perhaps contrary to the reader s expectation, it does not present either side as holding the ethical high ground. Rather, the novel suggests that both the Igbo and the white missionaries perpetuate repressive ideologies, and furthermore, that the destructive effects of these ideologies are visited upon both Ikemefuna and Okonkwo. Okonkwo s larger narrative arc actually suggests an ideal third path that discards the , because the novel blends elements of African and Western literature in order to tell a story that is simultaneously a tragedy in the Greek sense and clearly, essentially African. By examining Okonkwo s story in detail, it will be possible to see how Achebe uses the particular narrative elements of Things Fall Apart in order to demonstrate a potential bridge between the two societies which in the novel are seemingly so far apart.
