Titration Investigation Essay examples
Titration Investigation
Aim:
The aim of my investigation is to determine the solubility of calcium Hydroxide solution with the aid
of the titration process.
Titration can be defined as the method of determining the concentration of a substance in solution by
adding to it a standard reagent of known concentration in carefully measured amounts until a reaction
of definite and known proportion is completed, as shown by a color change or by electrical
measurement, and then calculating the unknown concentration.
An example could be, a given volume of a solution of unknown acidity may be titrated with a base of
known concentration until complete neutralization has occurred. This point is ... Show more content

From the pH at the equivalence point, the dissociation constant of the acidic or basic group can be
determined (see chemical equilibrium). If a compound contains several different acidic or basic
groups, the titration curve will show several sigmoid shaped curves like steps and the dissociation
constant of each group can be obtained from the pH at its corresponding equivalence point.
I have now explained the basis of the Titration methodology; I will now have to choose the
appropriate compounds in order to make sure that the experiment is carried out in the appropriate
manner. I will now display a table containing the different compunds for my availability:
Strong acid
Weak acid
Strong alkali
Weak alkali
Hydrochloric acid
Ethanoic acid
Sodium Hydroxide
Ammonia solution
Nitric acid
Ethandioic acid
Potassium Hydroxide
Sodium Catbonate
Sulphuric acid
Calcium Hydroxide
Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate
This table will aid us into the right choice of indicator. The reason for doing so is that some aspects of
the Titration process have to be very accurate. Depending upon the strength of an alkali and acid the
right indicator is chosen:
* A Titration between a strong acid and a weak alkali requires a methyl orange

James Paul Gee s What Is Literacy
If Gee s What is Literacy were a boat, we d all be bailing water.
In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay What is Literacy written by Linguist James
Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned skills to provide
a useful definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee must educate
the reader on various definitions, idea and numerous theories in an effort to provide support for his
conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes. It is my belief that
while Gee is eventually able to turn the reader to his way of thinking, he is not able to as eloquently as
he would like. In fact, upon closer examination, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, I am so perplexed by this ultimately simple definition that I read and re read the definition
again and again trying to make sense of the words on the page and wondering if this has all been an
effort in futility. Even Gee himself seems dissatisfied with the definition he has provided as he
immediately adds the adjectives dominant and powerful as a means to better express the meaning of
the definition he has provided in the very next sentences. While I acknowledge that for purpose of this
essay Gee s definition may offer up a viable definition to support his arguments, it is by no means a
useful or working definition of the word anywhere

Perception and Memory in The Keeper of the Books, The Men...
The three authors Jorge Luis Borges, Scott Russell Sanders, and E.B White all have different stories
yet somehow they tie together. Borges The Keeper of the Books , Sanders The Men We Carry in Our
Minds and White s Once More to the Lake all touch upon perception throughout their stories. Their
perceptions thoroughly shape their stories, but their memories also influence and shadow their
perception as well. Throughout this essay I hope to prove how memories influence and tie together
with our perception of our individuality. There are two different types of memory; individual and
collective. Individual memory is defined in the article Individual and Collective Memory written by
Sara Hanneman and Brianna Brandon, as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Say a woman lost her husband in 9/11. Her husband had a certain smell about him that distinguished
and defined him. If this women smelt this smell again, she may instantly refer back to that individual
memory of that smell and this could affect her formation of new, collective memories. Maybe this
scent is a reminder of her deceased husband and could form negative memories. On the other hand, it
could do the opposite. This individual memory could serve as a positive reminder of the good
memories she had with her husband. When she smells the smell she may only think of the individual
memory of the smell itself. Or she could think of memories involving activities she and her husband
did while he was wearing the scent, ultimately having collective memories. However we decide to
handle our individual memories ultimately attaches and weigh together with our collective memories.
Another thing that dominates our perception and memory is archives. By definition, archives are any
extensive record or collection of data (dictionary.com). When it comes to memory, we decide what is
important to store or collect and what isn t. We may keep certain memories in the back of our mind in
an archive until we need it. The question that comes with archives is, what do we decide to remember
and what do we decide to forget? Erika Hayasak talks about this in the article How Many of Your
Memories are Fake? , stating, For all of us, the stronger

Mrs Bennet Monologue
Mrs Bennet stood outside Elizabeth s room for a few more minutes and then, when she was satisfied
her daughter was asleep, she fled from the landing. Tears were flowing down her cheeks and her anger
was seeping through every pore in her body. How could he be so stupid? Mrs Bennet thought;
referring to her idiotic husband. She was seething to say the least and she was desperately sad. Did
Elizabeth really think her mama was that naïve? Mrs Bennet knew her daughter enough to know that
she was hiding something from her. The haunted look in her eye gave her away in an instant. What did
that... bastard do to her? Mrs Bennet groped around for possibilities, but just came up with absurd
ideas which would get Elizabeth in heaps of trouble. Mrs Bennet ... Show more content on

The mother can guess anything from just one look. Her eyes... they are... they were dead, Mr Darcy.
There was nothing in them except a small flicker of deep routed agony. This tells me more about what
happened out there than Elizabeth ever could. She looked at her lap and tears spread over her cheeks
once again. She was not only beaten, but she was... raped as well, Mr Darcy. And I cannot stop
thinking that it is all my fault. She let out a gut wrenching cry and folded in upon

A Modest Proposal Essay
Have You Eaten Yet?: Swift s Final Solution
amp;#9;As a lately favored eighteenth century essay, Jonathan Swift s amp;quot;Proposal amp;quot;
has been canonized as a satirical model of wit. As will be discussed shortly, Swift s essay is often seen
as an allegory for England s oppression of Ireland. Swift, himself and Irishman (Tucker 142), would
seem to have pointed his razor wit against the foreign nation responsible for his city s ruin. Wearing
the lens of a New Historicist, however, requires that we reexamine the power structures at work in
Swift s society. We must delve into not only Swift s amp;quot;Proposal, amp;quot; but also into other

Research Paper On Climate Change
Climate Change We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go to. (Unknown) This quote
by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th
century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These
advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other
greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs
of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). What is the reason for this? Could it be that people do not
know what they are doing? Maybe people just do not care? Many persons in America will deny the
changing climate because they claim there are no facts or they do not believe in the facts that scientists
have come to find. The advancement of climate change through production of Carbon Dioxide,
greenhouse gases and overuse of aerosol products can be blamed on mankind s waste and disregard.
Carbon Dioxide, also referred to as Co2, is one of the adverse chemicals that has been contributing to
climate change for decades. The careless attitude and dangerous professions of humans are, almost
collectively, directly responsible for the ever rising Carbon Dioxide concentration in our air. By reason

Research Paper On William The Conqueror
Duke of Normandy, William the First: Conqueror or Bastard?
William the Conqueror: a powerful man who was taking what was rightfully his, or an illegitimate son
thirsty for power, only history can tell if his actions were an act of justice. This debate contains a lot of
confusion between promises, traditions overlapping, the support of the people, and proven powerful
enough to rule. After understanding the conflicts at the time, history has proven that William the
Conqueror proved to have a legitimate claim to the throne, much more than his competition at the
time. In order to understand history, we have to look back and see how we got to this point, starting
with the set up for this situation.
To understand William, we have to understand his life. William was born in 1027 to Robert I, Duke of
Normandy, by his concubine Arlette, a tanner s daughter from the town of Falaise as an illegitimate
son (History.com Staff). This is one of the many factors that came to debate later on as he tries to take
the throne since he was born out of an affair. Due to his father s death, he was named Duke of
Normandy at age seven (History.com Staff). Many people were not pleased with the former King s
decision and started many rebellions, all of which William escaped. In 1051, William visited England
and met with his cousin Edward the Confessor, the childless English king. According to Norman
historians, Edward promised to make William his heir. On his deathbed, however, Edward granted the

Junot Diaz s Drown Character Analysis
Thesis: The family dynamic, including culture and structure, in Junot Diaz s Drown influenced the
protagonists life decisions along with his belief.
As mentioned in the book Yunior s family immigrated from the Dominican Republic, which affected
Yunior s future with cultural expectations and societal judgement. In the Dominican culture men are
expected to be masculine and breadwinners ( ) for the household but this is not the situation in Yunior
s family. As mentioned before Yunior s father left him when he was 7 years old ( ), and her mother
provided for both Yunior and his older brother. Despite not having a father the expectations of being
macho was still prevalent for Yunior as he resided in a Dominican neighbourhood in New Jersey.
Another subject which may be discussed in the topic of masculinity is Beto, Yunior s best friend, and
the homosexual experiences between the two. Before abandoning the family, Yunior s father helps
them move to the US, which forces them to chase after the American Dream ( ). The family
immigrated from the Dominican Republic to escape poverty, but they still lived under the poverty line
in the USA. Although, government funds to the Dominican ( ) helped the families be better off than
they were in the Dominican. Dominicans are a minority in the USA which means that finding a well
paying job is difficult unless you are very talented or have a good education. Opportunities will not be
handed to Yunior he will have to work hard for them

Sigmund Freud s Five Lectures On Psychoanalysis
In Sigmund Freud s Five Lectures on Psychoanalysis, he introduces theories regarding repressed
memories as a source for mental disturbances and methods of retrieving these memories. Freud
introduces techniques such as dream interpretation, word association, and hypnosis as methods for
treating symptoms of mental disturbances; it is for these discoveries that Sigmund Freud is considered
the father of psychoanalysis. According to neuropsychologist Paul Broks, Freud might also be

They cannot escape from the past and neglect present reality in its favor (CP 73). Not everyone can

Freud is held most famous for introducing psychoanalysis as a method of mental health treatment.
Psychoanalysis is a psychological theory that investigates the conscious and subconscious minds with
the goal of treating mental disturbances. Psychoanalysis essentially retrieves a patient s repressed
feelings and fears to the surface with techniques such as hypnosis, word association, dream
interpretation, and hesitations and fumbles. Although Freud was not originally a fan of hypnosis, it
was theorized to be an effective of way of channeling the subconscious mind. Word associations are
the first things that come into mind. It goes straight through the id, so there is no time to channel the
ego or superego. In other words, when someone says the first word that goes through their mind, it
gives Freud a way to see into their subconscious mind and discover the trauma that the patient may
have experienced. The patient does not have the opportunity to over think about what he is saying.
According to Freud, dreams arouse feelings that are disguised and the unconscious mind can be
investigated by tracking and interpreting dreams. An example of a hesitation or fumble is a Freudian
slip, which is when someone

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Bhagavad Gita
In The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Bhagavad Gita, gods play an important role in society and the way
of life. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In The Epic of
Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings. The way the
people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much power the gods
withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgamesh act a lot like humans, their power is
minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh and longs for
him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later denies Ishtar, which
shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no one god is all powerful.
After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not strong enough to fulfill this task
on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father,
give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand
the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty husks for the land of Uruk (54). The conversation
between Ishtar and Anu is not very god like and holds a very human aspect of a conversation you
would hear between a mortal father and daughter. The fact that Ishtar has to ask permission before
acting, shows how much power she lacks. Ishtar then summoned the Bull of Heaven to kill

Montessori Class Reflection
These two past weeks we have been doing a lot of lecture series in class, which I enjoy a lot, I feel like
I learn better when having a power point presentation to see, read, and listened to, instead of just
talking about something or reading it. This past week we also had our first paper due, our thoughts and
beliefs paper which we had time to talk about what we wrote about with a partner. I thought this was a
very insightful way to see how other people interpreted the same assignment, and even though we
both answered the questions we may have answered them in a different way or a different perspective.
So far in class we have gone over some general theories of play, some of which I had already learned
about in my developmental psych class, but others that I had not really hear of before. One of the
surprising things I learned was about was the Montessori schools. Up until this class I had a negative
connotation towards Montessori schools because one of my friends went there for kindergarten
through fourth grade and she felt like they didn t properly prepare her for public schooling. She was
behind in most of her classes, and didn t feel like she could easily catch up. But after learning that the
Montessori schools teach independence to children I realize how she has often acted more mature and
independent from people her own age. Although she was not top of her class she was able to catch up
and graduate high school with all the kids she started 5th grade public school

Hate crimes are a second major hurdle Muslims need to jump. Hate crimes are issues that, regardless
of political opinion, need to be addressed. Conservatives and liberals alike all agree that persecution of
one s beliefs is wrong. Hate crimes have been on the rise ever since terrorists attacked the twin towers
on September 11, 2001. Terrorism results in blaming the entirety of the Islam for the actions of those
the perpetrators, rather than just upon those who committed the crime. Islamophobic attacks have been
destroying communities internationally; everything from shootings, rapes, robberies, to mosque
burnings, have been seen by the by the Greater Manchester Police. The Greater Manchester Police

Harold and Maude To begin with, the film Harold and Maude is about two people of different age
groups trying to fit in the society. The main characters, Harold and Maude, meet under different
circumstances and they are determined to face life regardless of how cruel it might be. The movie
discusses the issue of romance and life in general. Harold and Maude find companionship and love in

and he is not discouraged by the age difference between them. The two protagonists find pleasure in

Characters development is well represented in the film, and this was reached with a help of language
and clothes used by actors. For example, as each character wears clothes that suit his life. The director
also differentiates the lives of people by using various screenshots and camera rolls, and this is to
make a viewer understand the different themes presented (Beach 124). It can be stated that any young
person should watch the movie, because the storyline may reflect what the individual may be going
through. The movie is an implementation of encouragement for an individual. There are many young
people who try to commit suicide, who may not see the essence of living, just like Harold. Adults very
often have a problem with judging young generation, and they may try to interfere with their life
decisions. Harold faced this problem when every person close to him wanted to advise on how he
should live his life, and this shows the major problem with community members. The film supports
the idea that people should not complicate their lives, because they are themselves creators of their

Providing High Quality Liquid Assets ( Hqla )
In order to meet its liquidity needs to survive a significantly severe liquidity stress scenario lasting for
a month, Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) s requirement aims to ensure that banking institutions have
sufficient High Quality Liquid Assets (HQLA) that can be readily converted into cash (Lange,
Saunders Cornett, 2015). The LCR is a ratio and firms would be required to keep HQLA equal to at
least 100 percent of total net cash outflows over the next 30 calendar days.
The LCR has been implemented since 1st January 2015, but the minimum requirement was set
starting at 60% and increase in equal annual steps to reach 100% by 1st January 2019. The LCR is
ensured through this approach so that it can be introduced without material disruption to the orderly
strengthening of banking systems.
According to APRA, HQLA includes cash, bank bills and certificates of deposits (CDs) issued by
Financial Intermediaries (FIs) and at call deposits, must be free from encumbrances (Lange et al.,
2015). When Basel III liquidity reforms, LCR does not call for any minimum quantity of cash
reserves, unlike traditional reserve requirements, instead, calls for a minimum quantity of various
HQLA. Besides, LCR differentiates itself through being applied to nearly all bank liabilities, including
derivatives and off balance sheet loan commitments, according to their maturity. With this, it is more
restrictive than conventional reserve requirements, causing it to strive to prevent banks from

women and kind of describe herself as self made women, but she is a very smart woman who knows
how to play the game she been playing. To her love is exists but women and men must enslave each

important way Madame de Merteuil want to satisfy is to have the latter back. Merteuil encourages the

characters who may be associated with the concept. Valmont is more interested in pursuing Madame

larger meaning of the concept is to get the letter back from Valmont if he succeeds he can sleep in bed

Tire pressure is important. If your tires aren t properly inflated, steering may be problematic and fuel
mileage may decrease. Similarly, overly inflated tires can also cause issues like blowouts or punctures.
And because big rigs are consistently exposed to different environments and surfaces, it s smart to
check tire pressure regularly particularly if there s a long journey on your agenda.
3. Brake performance is essential. Even the smallest sign of distress could spell trouble, so it s
important to address minor issues before they turn into something serious. Whether it s a squealing

Transportation in Alaska was very difficult during the early 1920 s. The frozen, mountainous,
unexplored terrain made it very difficult to move supplies from one end of the state to the other. This
is when Alaskan s began using Huskies to pull their load across the blizzard like land. In 1925 a small
town in Northwest Alaska was at its peak of a gold rush, when an outbreak arose and needed
antitoxins immediately to save the town of this incipient epidemic. Over 20 mushers and 200 dogs
rose to the challenge to carry the medicine from Anchorage over 650 miles across the tundra to Nome.
This gave birth to the Last Great Race on Earth.
Over 40 years later in 1973 the first Iditarod was held in celebration to the mushers and dogs who
were able to save the people of Nome. The race is now over 1,000 miles ... Show more content on

Reynolds, retired from sled dog mushing has now dedicated his career to the methods of how effective
he can apply the term periodization to his dogs and be able to train the best dogs in the world. His
research began by adopting a training program that was widely used in Norway to produce some of its
best Olympic athletes. This training regime consisted of high aerobic training during the beginning of
the season, and transitioning into a anaerobic style approaching the start of the big race. Dr. Raynolds
had many exclusive training methods to get his dogs in shape such as tying them to a large wheel; like
a carousel you might find at an amusement park. His endurance training consisted of long rides on his
four wheeler as the dogs chased behind

Octavia Butler Research Paper
Octavia Estelle Butler was one of the many African Americans that represent the reason we celebrate
Black History Month, the annual remembrance of the achievements of African Americans. She
showed the achievements of African Americans with her writing skill. Particularly, her novels and
short stories were very profound in the science fiction genre. Her hard work earned her special
rewards and inspired others to reach to their potential and accomplish great things. Octavia E. Butler
was born on June 22, 1947, in Pasadena, California to Laurice and Octavia M. Butler. Her father s job
was shining shoes; her mother, a maid after his death. She was left being raised by her mother and
grandmother. As a child, she had characteristics that made her uncomfortable: tallness, shyness, and ...

The book became a series with Mind of My Mind in 1977, Wild Seed in 1980, and Clay Ark s in 1984.
In 1979, she had a career breakthrough with the novel, Kindred. I personally enjoy this book because
it s about an African American woman traveling back in time to save her ancestor, a white slave
owner. One of her quotes about the novel was truly inspiring, I wanted to write a novel that would
make others feel the history: the pain and fear that black people have had to live through in order to
endure. In the 1980s, she published the Xenogenesis trilogy. This consisted of Dawn in 1987,
Adulthood Rites in 1988, and Imago in 1989. Afterwards, she wrote the Parable series. The two books
in it are the Parable of the Sower and the Parable of the Talents. All of Octavia Butler s works deserve
an award for its content and purpose. She received the 1984 Best Short Story Hugo Award for Speech
Sounds. She also won a Nebula Award and Hugo Award for the novelette Bloodchild. In 1995, Octavia
Butler became the first science fiction writer to receive a genius grant from the MacArthur
Foundation. This allowed her to buy a house for her

What And How The Software Requirement Specification ( Srs...
The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made
between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and
researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of
requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic
basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one
would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it
is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who
is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger
problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the
problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the
problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms
of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem
domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s
implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. In SRS is unnecessary to follow the exact
order but it is highly likely that completed one section with a problem another problem will pop up in

Essay on Isolation in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
Isolation in Winesburg, Ohio
Winesburg, Ohio is a story of lost or nonexistent connections with other human beings. Every
character throughout the text has a want, a need, to connect with someone or something. Each
individual faces a life of isolation. In most cases the solitary nature of their lives is self inflicted. This
self punishment seems to be the outcome of a deeply personal hatred towards the characters perceived
differences with the rest of the Winesburg population. This is the fact that elevates Winesburg, Ohio
above the rest. It is the fact that every man hides a part of himself from the eyes of others.
The hunger was earliest demonstrated in the short story Hands. In this episode the ... Show more

Each character seems to deteriorate into a simply physical being with no with no living soul left. This
is best stated in the words of Irving Howe. He wrote, The grotesques rot because they are unused, their
energies deprived of outlet, and their instincts curdled in isolation (Howe). This rotting effect is
evident in several other characters; however, it can be most strongly noticed within Elizabeth Willard.
Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her most
prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those that visited
and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world changed drastically. It
seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her dreams. They were traded
instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her life there was but one joy left
and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother was, George is a dreamer. He aspired
to become a writer rather than the financial success his father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s
single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find
the strength to express these strong feelings to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented
Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself
away. In essence,

Justin Diary Entry Analysis
Cher Journal,
Today Victor left for Ingolstadt. He just left but hours ago and I already feel the vastness of my cousin
s absence. It s hard for me to see him go for I have been within his presence for as long as I remember.
It must be hard for him to go as well, especially with the recent passing of his mother, my dear Aunt
Caroline. I feel partially responsible for her death; she caught the sickness from me. I am still so very
thankful that the sickness did not take the same hold on me as it did her. This family has never seen
the sadness we all behold now;I doubt we could take even one more. Justine has taken the event very
hard as well. She was very close to my dearest aunt and tended to her when she became sick. One look
at Justine in the past and all your sorrows would flit away but now I feel she needs the comfort. She
has been neglected over these months for the focus has been on our closest family members instead. I

us. My uncle has been patiently waiting for a response directly from Victor as well. If we do not hear
from my cousin soon, I assume Uncle will travel there to check on the wellbeing of Victor himself.
Yes, Henry is giving us details but he is always very vague about what is truly wrong with my dear
cousin. I hope the scarlet fever has not also taken hold of Victor. I do doubt that my dear friend would
leave that vital information out of the letters if that were the case. The time has gotten away from me
and the moon is high in the sky. I will wait another day with baited breath for a letter or Victor to

Introduction
Corporate social responsibility is a form of corporate self regulation integrated into a business model.
CSR policy functions as a built in, self regulating mechanism whereby business monitors and ensures
its active compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards, and international norms. The goal of
CSR is to embrace responsibility for the company s actions and encourage a positive impact through
its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other
members of the public sphere. Furthermore, CSR focused businesses would proactively promote the
public interest (PI) by encouraging community growth and development, and voluntarily eliminating

illustrated by the catastrophic failure of BP s gulf coast oil rig, Deepwater Horizon. The disastrous
failure of the rig s safety features has already taken a devastating toll on the ecology of the Gulf Coast,
and is likely to have harmful ramifications long into the future. The magnitude of the Deepwater
Horizon disaster and the immediate and long term costs it implies for BP seems to be sinking in with
BP investors as well. According to the New York Times, BP s stock has plunged more than 13% since
the incident began on April 20th. The company which operated the rig, Transocean, has seen stock

Michael Gow Essay
A central irony of Michael Gow s allegorical drama Away and O.Henry s poignant meditation on loss
in The Last Leaf is the idea that we often gain self realisation when forced to abandon things we have
tied our sense of identity to. As Gow and O.Henry explore, we are often psychologically unable to
accept information that contradicts self image and understandings of the world. Both texts expose the
fragility of human life as a zeitgeist of the 1960 s to mimeticise the cost that is required for an
individual to act as a catalyst for others to undergo a transformation. Personal discovery, through the
acknowledgement of death, allows the protagonist in both texts to encounter a paradigmatic shift that
causes people to readily accept change and results into an epiphany of their limitations. Both texts use
form and features in interaction with context to the 1960 s to mimeticise the underlying ramifications
the balance of loss and gain of discoveries.
Both Gow and O.Henry mimeticise this process of self realisation by abandoning our beliefs and
values through the prodigious power of youth inherent through Tom and Johnsy. In Away, Michael
Gow utilises multimodal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O.Henry uses the context of the mid 1900s which saw pneumonia take many lives. The use of
personification, by calling this disease Mr. Pneumonia and describing it as red fisted, short breathed

who contracted it. Johnsy whispers, lying ... still as a fallen statue characterises her attitude towards
the broader society. However, through friendship and sacrifice, a different perspective on life
developed. It is the artistic transformation of Mr. Behrman s sacrifice that allowed Johnsy to discover

Personal Experience And Quality Measurement Report
To: Dr. Hudson Classmates.
Subject: Personal Experience Quality Measurement.
Hello classmates, I only have one week to write this email and get this message out to you before class
ends. First, I want to express how much insight I have gained from each one of you. Your post
discussions and questions related back to me, forced me to think outside the box.
My experience during this five weeks, left me enlightened and a bit overwhelmed at the same time.
The pressure to complete my degree before my GI bill funds runs out is very stressful. I feel I am in a
race against time. These five weeks I learned more than I had planned to learn about policy and law.

The CHIPRA bill included $33 billion in federal funds for children s coverage through 2019, however,
the funds would only cover through the year of 2015. At the end of 2015 President Obama once again
signed legislation to provide two more years through 2017 2019.
The purpose of CHIP is to provide health insurance to low income children whose family income is
above the eligibility level for Medicaid in their state. Both these programs have covered over 15
million children and many of them live in low income families.
However, these are great programs for low income families and children who needs medical care.
Lessons and ideas, I have learned from this class, is that the polices and laws that are created by our
government. These are put in place to protect us in many ways, such the protection of our food and
water. The policies, laws, and guidelines that are put in place through the health care system. Giving
us access to treatment and protecting our right through the HIIPPA laws.
Another, good thing about policy and law is the public health preparedness which alerts us of all kinds
of illness, diesters, they are working to help the public in protecting our well being.
From a Christian scholar point of view, I know all things belong to God, I am the Alpha and the
Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13 NIV).

Meditations by Marc Aurelius Literature review
Choose not to be harmed and you won t feel harmed. Don t feel harmed and you haven t been
Meditations is a series of personal writings which embodies Marcus Aurelius s view on the Stoic
philosophy. The collection of writings consists of 12 books written over the course of his life in which
by reminding himself he reminds us to be human, to practice empathy, humility, kindness, and to
realize that time is short in this world.
Going through the text, we discover an emperor who was a simple man and who did not linger on his
royal status. Rather, he was a man of simplified tastes which shows him as being wise and humble.
The theme of the book is mainly focused on the nature of man and the universe. He argues that
everything came into existence from nature and when the things complete their destined time they
return back to nature. Marcus also focuses on the importance of having composure in one s life. He
believes that man should be strong and steadfast, and should strive to become better and serene.
Marcus Aurelius is also a strong advocate of freeing oneself from the allure of the material world. He
believes that the worldly distractions do nothing but lead us astray from our true potential and that
man should be strong enough to overcome his urges. A person must be strong minded ... Show more

  • 3. Titration Investigation Essay examples Titration Investigation Aim: The aim of my investigation is to determine the solubility of calcium Hydroxide solution with the aid of the titration process. Titration can be defined as the method of determining the concentration of a substance in solution by adding to it a standard reagent of known concentration in carefully measured amounts until a reaction of definite and known proportion is completed, as shown by a color change or by electrical measurement, and then calculating the unknown concentration. An example could be, a given volume of a solution of unknown acidity may be titrated with a base of known concentration until complete neutralization has occurred. This point is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the pH at the equivalence point, the dissociation constant of the acidic or basic group can be determined (see chemical equilibrium). If a compound contains several different acidic or basic groups, the titration curve will show several sigmoid shaped curves like steps and the dissociation constant of each group can be obtained from the pH at its corresponding equivalence point. I have now explained the basis of the Titration methodology; I will now have to choose the appropriate compounds in order to make sure that the experiment is carried out in the appropriate manner. I will now display a table containing the different compunds for my availability: Strong acid Weak acid Strong alkali Weak alkali Hydrochloric acid Ethanoic acid Sodium Hydroxide Ammonia solution

In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay What is Literacy written by Linguist James Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned skills to provide a useful definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee must educate the reader on various definitions, idea and numerous theories in an effort to provide support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes. It is my belief that while Gee is eventually able to turn the reader to his way of thinking, he is not able to as eloquently as he would like. In fact, upon closer examination, I ... In fact, I am so perplexed by this ultimately simple definition that I read and re read the definition again and again trying to make sense of the words on the page and wondering if this has all been an effort in futility. Even Gee himself seems dissatisfied with the definition he has provided as he immediately adds the adjectives dominant and powerful as a means to better express the meaning of the definition he has provided in the very next sentences. While I acknowledge that for purpose of this essay Gee s definition may offer up a viable definition to support his arguments, it is by no means a useful or working definition of the word anywhere ... • 6. Perception and Memory in The Keeper of the Books, The Men... The three authors Jorge Luis Borges, Scott Russell Sanders, and E.B White all have different stories yet somehow they tie together. Borges The Keeper of the Books , Sanders The Men We Carry in Our Minds and White s Once More to the Lake all touch upon perception throughout their stories. Their perceptions thoroughly shape their stories, but their memories also influence and shadow their perception as well. Throughout this essay I hope to prove how memories influence and tie together with our perception of our individuality. There are two different types of memory; individual and collective. Individual memory is defined in the article Individual and Collective Memory written by Sara Hanneman and Brianna Brandon, as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Say a woman lost her husband in 9/11. Her husband had a certain smell about him that distinguished and defined him. If this women smelt this smell again, she may instantly refer back to that individual memory of that smell and this could affect her formation of new, collective memories. Maybe this scent is a reminder of her deceased husband and could form negative memories. On the other hand, it could do the opposite. This individual memory could serve as a positive reminder of the good memories she had with her husband. When she smells the smell she may only think of the individual memory of the smell itself. Or she could think of memories involving activities she and her husband did while he was wearing the scent, ultimately having collective memories. However we decide to handle our individual memories ultimately attaches and weigh together with our collective memories. Another thing that dominates our perception and memory is archives. By definition, archives are any extensive record or collection of data (dictionary.com). When it comes to memory, we decide what is important to store or collect and what isn t. We may keep certain memories in the back of our mind in an archive until we need it. The question that comes with archives is, what do we decide to remember and what do we decide to forget? Tears were flowing down her cheeks and her anger was seeping through every pore in her body. How could he be so stupid? Mrs Bennet thought; referring to her idiotic husband. She was seething to say the least and she was desperately sad. Did Elizabeth really think her mama was that naïve? Mrs Bennet knew her daughter enough to know that she was hiding something from her. The eyes are the most expressive part of the body and they are the part a mother knows well. The mother can guess anything from just one look. Her eyes... they are... they were dead, Mr Darcy. A Modest Proposal Essay Have You Eaten Yet?: Swift s Final Solution amp;#9;As a lately favored eighteenth century essay, Jonathan Swift s amp;quot;Proposal amp;quot; has been canonized as a satirical model of wit. As will be discussed shortly, Swift s essay is often seen as an allegory for England s oppression of Ireland. Swift, himself and Irishman (Tucker 142), would seem to have pointed his razor wit against the foreign nation responsible for his city s ruin. Wearing the lens of a New Historicist, however, requires that we reexamine the power structures at work in Swift s society. (Unknown) This quote by an unknown source depicts the common mindset of the modern human. At the start of the 20th century America had had numerous major advancements in technology and business. These advancements helped to put America ahead, but at a cost. Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, other greenhouse gases and aerosols have been steadily increasing since this time period and show no signs of stopping soon (How Do We Know..). What is the reason for this? Could it be that people do not know what they are doing? Maybe people just do not care? Many persons in America will deny the changing climate because they claim there are no facts or they do not believe in the facts that scientists have come to find. The advancement of climate change through production of Carbon Dioxide, greenhouse gases and overuse of aerosol products can be blamed on mankind s waste and disregard. Carbon Dioxide, also referred to as Co2, is one of the adverse chemicals that has been contributing to climate change for decades. The careless attitude and dangerous professions of humans are, almost collectively, directly responsible for the ever rising Carbon Dioxide concentration in our air. • 11. Research Paper On William The Conqueror Duke of Normandy, William the First: Conqueror or Bastard? William the Conqueror: a powerful man who was taking what was rightfully his, or an illegitimate son thirsty for power, only history can tell if his actions were an act of justice. This debate contains a lot of confusion between promises, traditions overlapping, the support of the people, and proven powerful enough to rule. After understanding the conflicts at the time, history has proven that William the Conqueror proved to have a legitimate claim to the throne, much more than his competition at the time. In order to understand history, we have to look back and see how we got to this point, starting with the set up for this situation. To understand William, we have to understand his life. William was born in 1027 to Robert I, Duke of Normandy, by his concubine Arlette, a tanner s daughter from the town of Falaise as an illegitimate son (History.com Staff). This is one of the many factors that came to debate later on as he tries to take the throne since he was born out of an affair. Due to his father s death, he was named Duke of Normandy at age seven (History.com Staff). Many people were not pleased with the former King s decision and started many rebellions, all of which William escaped. As mentioned in the book Yunior s family immigrated from the Dominican Republic, which affected Yunior s future with cultural expectations and societal judgement. In the Dominican culture men are expected to be masculine and breadwinners ( ) for the household but this is not the situation in Yunior s family. As mentioned before Yunior s father left him when he was 7 years old ( ), and her mother provided for both Yunior and his older brother. Despite not having a father the expectations of being macho was still prevalent for Yunior as he resided in a Dominican neighbourhood in New Jersey. Another subject which may be discussed in the topic of masculinity is Beto, Yunior s best friend, and the homosexual experiences between the two. Before abandoning the family, Yunior s father helps them move to the US, which forces them to chase after the American Dream ( ). The family immigrated from the Dominican Republic to escape poverty, but they still lived under the poverty line in the USA. Freud introduces techniques such as dream interpretation, word association, and hypnosis as methods for treating symptoms of mental disturbances; it is for these discoveries that Sigmund Freud is considered the father of psychoanalysis. According to neuropsychologist Paul Broks, Freud might also be considered one of the founders of neuropsychology (Broks 1). Freud is held most famous for introducing psychoanalysis as a method of mental health treatment. Psychoanalysis is a psychological theory that investigates the conscious and subconscious minds with the goal of treating mental disturbances. Psychoanalysis essentially retrieves a patient s repressed feelings and fears to the surface with techniques such as hypnosis, word association, dream interpretation, and hesitations and fumbles. Although Freud was not originally a fan of hypnosis, it was theorized to be an effective of way of channeling the subconscious mind. Word associations are the first things that come into mind. It goes straight through the id, so there is no time to channel the ego or superego. In other words, when someone says the first word that goes through their mind, it gives Freud a way to see into their subconscious mind and discover the trauma that the patient may have experienced. The patient does not have the opportunity to over think about what he is saying. According to Freud, dreams arouse feelings that are disguised and the unconscious mind can be investigated by tracking and interpreting dreams. • 15. The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Bhagavad Gita In The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Bhagavad Gita, gods play an important role in society and the way of life. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings. The way the people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much power the gods withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgamesh act a lot like humans, their power is minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh and longs for him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later denies Ishtar, which shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no one god is all powerful. After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not strong enough to fulfill this task on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father, give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty husks for the land of Uruk (54). The conversation between Ishtar and Anu is not very god like and holds a very human aspect of a conversation you would hear between a mortal father and daughter. The fact that Ishtar has to ask permission before acting, shows how much power she lacks. Ishtar then summoned the Bull of Heaven to kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Montessori Class Reflection These two past weeks we have been doing a lot of lecture series in class, which I enjoy a lot, I feel like I learn better when having a power point presentation to see, read, and listened to, instead of just talking about something or reading it. This past week we also had our first paper due, our thoughts and beliefs paper which we had time to talk about what we wrote about with a partner. I thought this was a very insightful way to see how other people interpreted the same assignment, and even though we both answered the questions we may have answered them in a different way or a different perspective. So far in class we have gone over some general theories of play, some of which I had already learned about in my developmental psych class, but others that I had not really hear of before. One of the surprising things I learned was about was the Montessori schools. Up until this class I had a negative connotation towards Montessori schools because one of my friends went there for kindergarten through fourth grade and she felt like they didn t properly prepare her for public schooling. She was behind in most of her classes, and didn t feel like she could easily catch up. But after learning that the Montessori schools teach independence to children I realize how she has often acted more mature and independent from people her own age. The LCR is a ratio and firms would be required to keep HQLA equal to at least 100 percent of total net cash outflows over the next 30 calendar days. The LCR has been implemented since 1st January 2015, but the minimum requirement was set starting at 60% and increase in equal annual steps to reach 100% by 1st January 2019. The LCR is ensured through this approach so that it can be introduced without material disruption to the orderly strengthening of banking systems. According to APRA, HQLA includes cash, bank bills and certificates of deposits (CDs) issued by Financial Intermediaries (FIs) and at call deposits, must be free from encumbrances (Lange et al., 2015). When Basel III liquidity reforms, LCR does not call for any minimum quantity of cash reserves, unlike traditional reserve requirements, instead, calls for a minimum quantity of various HQLA. Besides, LCR differentiates itself through being applied to nearly all bank liabilities, including derivatives and off balance sheet loan commitments, according to their maturity. Being a two time world champion of a sport as unique as sled dog racing Dr. Reynolds has done extensive research on the role of periodization and its effects on performance which has led to very successful research and career. Transportation in Alaska was very difficult during the early 1920 s. The frozen, mountainous, unexplored terrain made it very difficult to move supplies from one end of the state to the other. This is when Alaskan s began using Huskies to pull their load across the blizzard like land. In 1925 a small town in Northwest Alaska was at its peak of a gold rush, when an outbreak arose and needed antitoxins immediately to save the town of this incipient epidemic. Over 20 mushers and 200 dogs rose to the challenge to carry the medicine from Anchorage over 650 miles across the tundra to Nome. This gave birth to the Last Great Race on Earth. • 25. What And How The Software Requirement Specification ( Srs... The debate about what and how the software requirement specification (SRS) should be made between customers and contractors or suppliers continues. Also most computer science engineers and researchers agree that, software requirements specification permits a rigorous assessment of requirements before design can begin and reduces later redesign. It should also provide a realistic basis for estimating product costs, risks, and schedules [1], in other words, the SRS is the step that one would use to find the path to getting one s own goal. Since there is not a standard for the SRS [14], it is necessary to find the hidden pattern for both the people who is making the SRS and the people who is reading the SRS. Furthermore, in software design engineers can refer the SRS as a part of larger problem solving process which encompasses problem determination and generates the solution for the problem. Thus, researchers consider that it is highly possible that the SRS can be classified under the problem solving cycle [2], which engineers will recognize the problem, re define the problem in terms of making systems, develop a strategy plan to fix the problem, organize the knowledge of the problem domain figure out the resources that user s disposal by listing functionalities, monitor user s implementations, and evaluate the solution for accuracy. Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her most prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those that visited and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world changed drastically. It seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her dreams. They were traded instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her life there was but one joy left and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother was, George is a dreamer. He aspired to become a writer rather than the financial success his father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find the strength to express these strong feelings to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself away. In essence, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Gow Essay A central irony of Michael Gow s allegorical drama Away and O.Henry s poignant meditation on loss in The Last Leaf is the idea that we often gain self realisation when forced to abandon things we have tied our sense of identity to. As Gow and O.Henry explore, we are often psychologically unable to accept information that contradicts self image and understandings of the world. Both texts expose the fragility of human life as a zeitgeist of the 1960 s to mimeticise the cost that is required for an individual to act as a catalyst for others to undergo a transformation. Personal discovery, through the acknowledgement of death, allows the protagonist in both texts to encounter a paradigmatic shift that causes people to readily accept change and results into an epiphany of their limitations. Both texts use form and features in interaction with context to the 1960 s to mimeticise the underlying ramifications the balance of loss and gain of discoveries.
