Why is it necessary to use excess sodium hydroxide solution when separating iron (III) and zinc
ions?
Extra NaOH must be used when precipitating iron (iii) ions because three NaOH molecules are
needed to react with each ion of iron as shown in the reaction below.
Fe3+ (aq) + 3NaOH (aq) Fe(OH)3 (s) (red) + 3Na+ (aq)
4. Precipitation reactions are often used in quantitative analysis to determine the precise amount of
metal cation in solution. The most common method for the analysis of barium ions, for example,
involves precipitation with sodium sulfate to form barium sulfate, which is insoluble in water.
a. Write a formula equation and a net ionic equation for the precipitation reaction of barium chloride
with sodium sulfate.
Here is the formula equation
BaCl2(aq) + Na2SO4(aq) BaSO4(s) + 2NaCl(aq)
And here is the Net ionic equation
Ba + SO4(aq) BaSO4(s)
b. How much sodium sulfate must be added to an aqueous solution containing 0.50 g of dissolved
barium ions to ensure that all of the barium precipitates as barium sulfate?
.05 g of sodium sulfate must be added since barium ions react in a 1 to 1 ratio with sulfate

Outline The Functions Of The Muscular System
The functions of the muscular system.
There are more than six hundred muscles located in the human body, all with assigned jobs. The
nervous system panels the actions of the muscles and the circulatory system supplies the muscles
with a opulent blood supply that delivers fuel for the muscles.
Through its many muscles, the muscular system:
Allows human movement.
Allows the development of strength, endurance and speed.
Assists other body systems to perform their duty.
The functions of the muscles when the body is engaged in physical activity.

Business Impact Analysis Paper
Databases Implement High Availability for Mission Critical Mission critical databases support
services that have an immediate, direct, and significant impact on revenue, goodwill, health and
safety, and regulatory compliance. They require more attention than other systems. I will be
discussing the following topics in this paper 1.Understand why implementing high availability for
mission critical databases is so important to IT s success. 2.Learn why true availability relies on
people, process, and technology. 3.Understand database methodology and approach to
implementing high availability. Current Situation: For most systems, efficient backup/recovery
processes and technology will meet recovery time (RTO) and recovery point... Show more content

For example, an Info Tech survey found that a BIA has a significant impact on setting
appropriate recovery time objectives (RTOs) and appropriate spending. Mission critical system
uptime depends on people, process, and technology. If people and processes are ignored, the
system becomes significantly more vulnerable to human error the number one cause of downtime.
My Research Recommendation: Integrate these principles when planning for high availability
Step 1 Take a proactive approach to high availability. Attention to and investment in high
availability tends to happen reactively after system failures. When you proactively address high
availability, you ll give yourself time to holistically approach HA and address people, process,
and technology gaps. Step 2 It is the responsibility of IT to ensure the business has been informed
about the options and costs of higher availability. Business users can t assess time impact of
downtime in an information vacuum. IT team SMEs often acutely aware of the impact of system
downtime should take a first cut to assess the impact of downtime, achievable recovery times, and
options to improve availability Step 3 It is the responsibility of the business to decide what projects
to fund. Business stakeholders must decide whether to fund a project, not the IT team. It is up to
the business to make an informed decision about the availability investments

Seashells In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury speculated many things, but one thing that he speculated that
came true was people will wear headphones or seashells instead of talking to each other and that
we would talk through the headphones instead of talking on our phones. He showed this when
Mildred and Montag were home together and Mildred has the seashells in her ears. She had both
ears plugged with the electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly,
saw him, and nodded (Bradbury, 22). This happens in our society when students are walking in the
halls between classes and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other.
Then he speculated that people will have bluetooth technology when Montag and Faber

Response Structure
Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans
for medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There
are many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the
responders with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an
understanding of an incident command system needs to be addressed.
According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on scene incident management concept designed
specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the
complexity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows hospitals to know how many beds they are going to need. Demobilization is the next
level. In this level, the responders are either sent back to the area they came from, set back in
service after they transport a victim, or they are cancelled all together. The last level is
termination. In this level, the incident commander decides that no further action is required and
everyone is sent back to their units. The next thing we need to look at are the responsibilities of
the incident commander. The first one, according to FEMA, 1999, is to rescue all victims. The
second is making sure the victims are taken out of the situation and moved to a medical facility.
And the third is to make sure the personnel are safe.
Next we will look at fire and rescue. The organization of the incident command is almost the same
as the medical responders. According to Fire and Rescue, 2008, the following are the organizational
areas for fire and rescue: Organization on the incident ground, this gives the Incident Commander a
recognized system from which to work when organizing and using resources at an Incident, Incident
Risk Management, the principal consideration of Incident Commanders is safety of their personnel.
Therefore, prior to deciding upon the tactics an assessment of risk must be performed. The Incident
Commander must identify the hazards, assess the risks, and implement all reasonable control
measures before committing crews into a risk area,

Pros And Cons Of Police Report
I think that the pros and cons of police using reports when they testify is that one pro is that they
will be informed on what all happened and not just their side to the story. I also think that is a
con at the same time since they are able to use their reports to be prepared and that also gives
them ample amount of time to change the story just a little to coincide with other officers
testimony. In one article that I found it stated that a homicide detective said he routinely takes
his case files home at least one week before trial and reviews everything. A robbery detective said
he likes to study the file and try to plan how to respond to questions I think will be asked. It s like

A Case Study of Singapore
Introduction
Singapore has long built its economy on its strategic positioning for trade. The country is now
home to the world s second largest container port according to the World Shipping Council
(2013). The country s position as a leading trade makes it a natural place to find solutions to
global supply chain issues, and has also encouraged a significant amount of foreign direct
investment in the country. Foreign companies have set up shop in Singapore, often in either
services or retail. This paper will analyze some of the issues that foreign firms dealing in Singapore
have with respect to global supply chain management.
Case Study #1: Starbucks
Starbucks has a significant retail presence in Singapore, but it also benefits from the country s
geographic position in a couple of ways. The first is that Singapore is situated in the heart of a
fertile coffee growing region critical islands like Java, Sumatra and New Guinea are nearby, as are
high volume growing regions like Vietnam. Starbucks has set up a regional distribution center in
Singapore in order to manage the flow of goods and services throughout Asia, both in terms of raw
materials and finished goods.
Changi Airport Group (2013) notes that Starbucks is one of many Western countries to have such a
regional distribution center. With stores throughout Southeast Asia, the coffee company can
organize its goods in Singapore for onward distribution, either overland to Malaysia and Thailand,
or over sea to Indonesia

Essay On Alternative Dispute Resolution
Introduction
This paper will examine when it is appropriate to attempt alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
processes for disputes and conversely when it is fitting for matters to be decided in a courtroom
with black robed judges and well dressed lawyers. Complementing the correct intervention
[courtroom, facilitative ADR or another form of ADR] at the right time, price and place with the
right disputants is not necessarily an easy task (Wade 2010, p. 13) and the line separating
alternative dispute resolution processes and judicial intervention can be blurred especially as
judicial officers conduct, refer or mandate parties to participate in ADR (Sourdin, 2009, p. 190).
Proof that fine panelled courtrooms may not be the answer to ... Show more content on

But ADR is much more than that. The consensual interaction between the disputants during an
ADR process is how conflict is resolved (Street, 2002). Whereas a court determination takes over
responsibility for the matter (Heilbronn et al, 1996, p. 262) and imposes an outcome that may not
be palatable to either party (David, 1991, p. 4).
A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from a dispute but it
may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place. When there is a need for the
parties to a dispute to continue to have a relationship (for example in families and workplaces)
failing to address the issues that caused the conflict in the first place may mean that it hasn t been
resolved and this may lead to further conflict. If the serious [and] important needs of parties in
dispute are not met this can compound... the problem (Zehr, 1985, p. 1).
In addition to the monetary costs associated with court action and tremendous social costs there are
also psychological costs associated with anxiety and hostility [and]... lost opportunities for
productive, cooperative endeavors (Burgess, 1989 as cited by Spencer and Hardy, 2009, p. 669).
Alternative dispute resolution can decrease the transaction costs connected with legal action
(Burgess, 1989 as cited by Spencer and Hardy, 2009, p. 669) as parties attempt to work together

Literary Analysis Of Saki s The Interlopers
Saki, in The Interlopers, says that our animalistic human nature traps us in blindness, but when
we re raised in a kind civilization, we choose to use friendship as a freedom from our inner
violence. Humans as a whole, have an animalistic nature to them. Saki starts the story with one of
the main character going on a hunt. Saki states, [A] man stood one winter night watching and
listening, as though he waited for some beast of the woods to come within the range of his
vision, and, later, of his rifle (Saki 6). Ulrich is stalking the woods for as Saki stated beast of the
woods but rather he patrolled the dark forest in quest of a humanenemy. Saki goes on talking about
the feud that started with their grandfathers over a land... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, Saki says that we, as humans, have an animalistic nature. This animalistic nature
traps us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, [A] s boys they
had thirsted for one another s blood, (7). The dictionary has a word for this definition bloodlust.
As stated before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are
supposed to be innocent and honorable. He continues with, Georg, who was nearly blinded with
the blood which trickled across his eyes (8). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary,
bloodlust is the desire to kill or maim others ; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki
goes on to stating, No, I can scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes,
said Georg, and in any case I don t drink wine with an enemy (9). This blindness is caused by the
bloodlust between the two souls, or in other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic
nature. Georg s animalistic human nature has blinded him in hatred, which has caused him to not
be able to see the similarities between him and Ulrich. This blindness leaves when we re raised in
a kind civilization. Saki starts the story with the two souls coming face to face with each other,
which is what they ve been wanting for a long time. Saki states, The two enemies stood

The Basics of Toilet Training Essay
The process of toilet training may be considered the most challenging process that parents
encounter with their child during the early stages of his or life. Toilet training can be described as
an individualized developmental process that all children will progress at their own developmental
pace and temperament, not the child s chronological age. Toilettraining should be a natural result
of the child s developmental readiness. Therefore the primary goal can only be achieved when the
child is ready and willing. Just like any learning process for a child, including toilet training, it
effects the development of the whole child and it is important that the child has the necessary
physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills to begin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the toilet training process, a child must obtain body awareness and be able to associate
bodily sensation to the result that follows, poop or pee. Then after he masters that skill he must
acquire the certain skills that will allow him to picture what he wants to do (use the toilet), create a
plan to get here, begin using it, and remain in place long enough to finish, which requires both
memory and concentration (Wolraich 26). The next and probably most difficult readiness sign a
parent must recognize before starting the toilet training process is emotional growth.
There are many emotional issues that can greatly affect toilet training that include a eagerness
for independence, a child s need for control, testing of rules and limits, desire to win parents
approval, and fears of toilet use. If a child resists the idea of using the toilet when mentioned he
may be experiencing an emotional issue and the parent should wait for a better time to follow
through with the process. If the child is continually repeating signs of resistance a parent may
want to rethink if it is too soon to begin the process and understand that the child may be going
through a major change in the his life that is creating stress. Parents should know that it is not the
best time to toilet train when a new baby is expected soon or has recently arrived, the family has
newly moved, the child has just

Starbucks s Special Design Red Cup
Since 1977, Starbucks has introduced its special design red cup, as a gesture to welcome the
Christmas s Holiday. This event has been widely participated and engaged by the public because
people love the variety of designs and patterns on the Red Cup. They even take picture with the cup
to express their supports on social media. According to Starbucks, the company proudly announces
that a picture of their holiday cup gets posted on Instagram every 14 seconds, within the first 48
hours of the Red Cup s debut. However, the excitement and participation cools down in the
holiday season of 2016, after the Red Cup makes it entrance again. The public do not welcome the
latest designs of the cup, because of its simple looks. To further explain, Starbucks introduces the
latest cup covered in bright red to dark cranberry color, with no patterns, except the company s
logo. After the first impression, some people accuse the company becoming an anti Christmas
corporation. They also points out that the Red Cup serves as a symbol of Satan s presence. As a
result, many express their displeasure on social media, along with the hashtag boycottStarbucks. At
the same time, some consumers believe that others react excessively toward the Red Cup. In
particular, naming and belittling Starbucks for introducing a simplistic cup. Furthermore, they
believe the boycott s idea is ridiculous because Starbuck s cup does not harm anyone, so one should

Angelman syndrome can be diagnosed within the first year of the life if the abnormalities are
noticed and investigated, but the disorder is more often diagnosed between 1 and 4 years of age
as the child s abnormalities become more clinically apparent (Bevinetto). In order to confirm the
diagnosis, a blood test must be done to look at the child s genetics (Angelman). Then, a
combination of genetic test can reveal the chromosome defects. There are three different defect
tests may reveal: parental DNA pattern, missing chromosome, or gene mutation. Parental DNA
pattern test screens for three of the four genetic defaults that cause this syndrome. To find out if the
chromosome is missing either a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test or a comparative
genomic hybridization test (CGH) can show if portions of chromosomes are missing. It is rare if
Angelman syndrome occurs with only a gene mutation. This happens when the UBE3A gene is
present and active, but mutated. A UBE3A gene sequencing test is used to look for maternal
mutation (Mayo). After the diagnosis is complete, treatments are discussed with the patient and their

Stereotypes In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood, a book written by Truman Capote, details about a murder case in 1959 in Holcomb.
The four victims in this book where apart of the Christian church which in their community, which
was very ethnically diverse, Christianity was the most popular religion.
In the book we see that Christianity was more than just a religion, it was their way of living. The
villagers went by Gods words and they would socialize in the church. We also notice that in the
book Capote creates the following stereotype: good people are believers of the lord and bad people
are followers of Satan or are lost.
The way that he creates this is by using the following non believers of the lord characters to
represent this stereotype: Perry and Dick. Perry in the story reveals to have homosexual
tendencies, which in Christianity homosexuality is a sin, and Dick represents the seven deadly
sins. Dick desires money, sex, and power while Perry only desires to be loved and to get an
education. In the story it is revealed that Perry at one point was catholic but because of the abuse
that he suffered in the catholic orphanage he stopped believing in God and became lost. As a child

Differences Between Forward Logistics And Reverse Logistics
1.1.Difference between Forward Logistics and Reverse Logistics:
Forward logistics (or conventional logistics) is the regular distribution channel followed by the
manufactures from time immemorial. Forward logistics concentrates on the products (goods or
services) reaching the consumer end and deals with the line of flow from the manufacturer s end to
the consumer s end. It deals with the very essence of Supply Chain Management and logistical
activities of an organization. It has a significant impact on the primary operations carried out,
which act as the basic revenue generating aspect of a business. In this logistical system, the flow is
a one to many type and the forecasting or traceability is quite simple.

Significance of Indian Beverage Industry with Reverse Logistics:
Indian food industry, with a net market value of around US$ 300 billion, is one of the major food
markets in the world. Looking at the contribution of the beverage sector in these statistics, we have
soft drink (carbonated and juices) market estimated at US$ 1 billion a year and health beverages
estimated at US$ 230 million, which is on a continuous verge of exponential growth.
It is expected that by 2021, India s projected population of 1.3 billion will constitute 64.2% of
people in between the age group of 15 and 59.
According to the global research firm Dun Bradstreet, an increasing pattern of income level when
coupled with the above statistics will give a growth of 9.1% of consumption of consumer goods in
a year.
In the Indian scenario, with relatively less importance given to efficient logistics, the market
leaders in beverage industry like Coca Cola, PepsiCo and ParlГ© Agro have their own well
established strong logistics network. The other small scale industries producing both carbonated
and non carbonated soft drinks in glass/ PET bottles or in Tetra Pak cartons have a comparatively
well established third party logistics system. They have the help of local providers in providing
vehicles for small transfers which help them in overcoming problems such as demands for bribes

Strategic Bombing During World War 2
World War 2 was a war fought in two distinct phases. The first was the last war of a new
generation. The second was emphatically the first of a new era . br br The British strategic
bomber campaign was of doubtful cost effectiveness . Bomber Command was by far the largest
claimant on labour and factory space within the armed forces. Relative to their size they suffered
more casualties than any other sector. br br The Anglo American bomber force was divided in
terms of strategy. Bomber Command believed it was too risky to bomb by day, while the
Americans believed it was too difficult to bomb by night. Initially both forces lacked accurate
navigational equipment, which deterred them from precision bombing. br br Germany developed a

The morale of the German people was not affected enough to effect their war waging capacity.
Neither a maintenance of productivity nor a rebuilding of industry could have been achieved by
means of compulsive but only by virtue of the voluntary response of German workers . br br It
was assumed that bombing raids would be made in the daylight. In August 1940 German
bombers suffered heavily in daylight even though they were escorted. This helped to confirm to
Bomber Command that night bombing was the best policy. Bomber Command flew night
missions over Germany during the winter of 1940 1941 in the belief their bombs had fallen
within about 300 yards of their targets. This figure was plainly wrong, a new assumption was
made. The R.A.F decided the average error was closer to 1000 yards, which meant that Bomber
Command could not be expected to hit targets as small as oil facilities, until they had been
equipped with vastly improved navigational aids. The U.S.A.A.F opposed Bomber Commands
view, they believed accurate bombing could only be achieved during the day. They assumed
unescorted bombers flying in well designed formations could penetrate the German lines. On 14th
October 1943, 60 out 291 flying fortresses were shot down by German fighters during the last
major raid on Schweinfurt. The formation had been obliged to fly 400 miles without fighter cover.

codes, companies need to certify that the company as a whole follows the highest standards of
moral codes at all times and for all occasions. In addition, having higher moral standards are
important and necessary in business, as well as times of investigation. For this essay, I will be
reviewing a case where dishonest business examination procedures were performed by a company.
This specific business was unquestionably captivated in immoral research performance. This is a
pharmaceutical corporation that operated with a university professor that supplied the required

The immoral analysis certainly had an effect on the company, the entity and also on the general
public (Zall, Moyer, Dawson Curtis, 2003). The business was able to obtain a large amount of
sponsors and earnings from trading drugs in developed countries. Additionally, Dr. Howard
Johnson was immersed in a moral dilemma. He was not able to truthfully expose the investigation
for enhanced services of inmates in developing countries. Do to this situation; the public was also
unhelpful. With people living in an area succumbed with the flu needed assistance, however,
medicine was not provided or accessible to them causing a large amount of people passing away.
The business in this case should have had processes with the intent of avoiding immoral practice
and taken the information to the public in developing countries. The professor should have also
introduced the required information to reveal the findings of his investigation. Still, the professor
had signed a privacy agreement with the pharmaceutical corporation at which he should have
encouraged the pharmaceutical company to reveal all the statistical information for providing
benefits to the public afflicted by the flu. Had the professor taken a more practical and moral
attitude to disclose his findings, his immoral act could have been avoided. Briefly, companies
around the world should have a certain standard with procedures to guarantee that the company

Reaction Paper On Harvey Milk
Harvey milk was the first openly gay man who was voted into california s public office, but milk
was more than that. He was also a leader among his friends, an important person to his lover scott
smith and at that time a leader and activist for the lgbt community. Till today he is an important
figure in san francisco gay community. The movie milk is a story about harvey milk s life after
forty. As harvey milk fights overwhelming obstacles to be elected to public office, he realises
that his local problem has assumed national significance. Milk is a story about the san francisco
board supervisor who was murdered by a fellow co worker. I loved the movie, the character was
portrayed by sean penn as a lovable men with a purpose. The way he portrays harvey right down
to his body movement gives a easy going vibe which fits right into the type of personality harvey
was. If you compare the pictures of sean penn playing hearvey and actual harvey there is only
little difference especially when they smile. In harvey s real life he stood for something which is
hard to do sure he didn t immediately do it. Wasn t until his forties that his activism started. His
activism according to the movie was not about power or anything immoral. It was about getting his
friends and acquaintances an equal chance in san francisco. As time goes by he started expanding
on trying to influence lgbtrights threw out california. One of the saddest yet cinematically beautiful

Mayan Civilization Research Paper
Mayan Civilization
The Mayan Civilization grew to become one of the most advanced civilizations in the Americas.
This civilization was developed by the Maya peoples and was noted for its many advancements in
all categories. The civilization was believed to have been first introduced to the world in 250 A.D.
In 900 A.D. the end of the Maya civilization occurred. Even though it wasn t the official end of
the civilization, this time period is when the classical era for the Mayans ended, and many of the
Maya peoples migrated toward Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula The Maya, inhabitants of the

They were skilled architects, building great cities of stone that remain even a thousand years
after their civilization fell into decline. This allowed for the study of Mayan architecture and
culture. The architecture of the Mayans is one of the last things that is still available for study
of the Mayan culture, as the buildings built by the Mayans were often covered with many stone
carvings. These stone carvings were a way to show the vast history and beliefs of the Maya.
Unlike the other early civilizations the Mayans also decorated with paint and stucco statues.
The Maya built pyramids, temples, palaces, walls, residences and more. The Maya built a great
deal of temples and pyramids allowing archaeologists to realize the importance of religion and
sacrifice of the Maya peoples. The Maya also built their villages in plazas. These plazas are
rarely neat and orderly and to some it may seem as if the Maya built anywhere they pleased. The
plazas may have seemed unorderly at a glance, however the Maya peoples were very wise and
built on irregular shaped higher ground in order to avoid natural disasters such as floods, which
was a very common thing in the tropical forests they settled in. (Christopher Minster). However,
even though the architecture was a major contributor to the popularity of the Mayans, agriculture

Essay On Nick Gatsby
In the article The Trouble with Nick: Reading Gatsby Closely, Scott Donaldson argues that Nick
Carraway is a snob (98). Donaldson cites Carraway s intolerance toward those who do not know
how to act, Carraway s conflicting feelings about Gatsby, and Carraway s obsession with social
propriety as manifestations of his snobbery. According to Donaldson, a final revelation of
Carraway s aloof attitude is his static personality, a personality that refuses to learn from the
experiences of others. However, Scott Donaldson s argument is incorrect; Nick Carraway is not a
snob. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway is an unpretentious man who

Donaldson argues that by insisting on having been invited to Gatsby s party and in attempting
to thank Gatsby for inviting him to a party, Carraway appears rather ridiculous and is overly
formal and pretentious (101). Donaldson explains that Carraway s obsession with social rules
reveals his snobbery. Once again, Donaldson is incorrect; Carraway s actions are signs of
respect, not of ridiculous pretentiousness. Carraway does not attend one of Gatsby s parties until
Gatsby formally invites him. Waiting to attend a party is a sign of respect, not aloofness. By
waiting for a formal invitation to attend Gatsby s party, Carraway reveals his respect for Gatsby s
privacy and home. Additionally, Carraway spends the majority of his first party attempting to find
Gatsby and thank him for his hospitality. Again, Carraway s actions are polite and demonstrate
respect for Gatsby. Instead of rudely ignoring his host as so many of his fellow guests do,
Carraway attempts to politely thank Gatsby for his hospitality, illustrating his respect for Gatsby.
Hence, Nick Carraway exhibits reasonable social decorum and exemplifies respect, not arrogance,

Essay on Doppelganger and King Kong English Speech
Introduction:
Good morning/afternoon class and *teacher*, today I will be speaking about how Michael Parker,
the author of Doppelganger and Peter Jackson, the director of the film King Kong, accurately
portray the main concept of the Beast Within through the symbolism of masks and the notions of
betrayal and duplicity. I will be talking about Josh and Andrew from Doppelganger, Carl Denham
and the people that he manipulated and affected through his deception, from King Kong and explain
their contributions to the main idea of the Beast Within, how they wear a mask and how they
portray the concepts of Duplicity and Betrayal.

angry, by slashing him with a knife during the chase in the tunnels, and Andrew goes on a crazy
rampage and kills boy. Andrew soon becomes very guilty that he killed boy because he realises
that in the normal Sydney boy is a kid named Derek, who dies in a car crash, which makes
Andrew logically believe that if one person is killed in the Dystopic Sydney, this same
happening will reflect in a slightly different manner, in the normal Sydney. Josh also
demonstrates the concept of the Beast Within through the plain evil of what he did to Andrew,
the evil intentions of Josh were the reason why he did it, it wasn t to save anyone s life, like
Andrew ends up doing later on in the text, but it was all part of Josh s scheme to become the
owner of the metsin factory so that he could become the richest and most famous person in the

The Hypothesized Finnish Population Bottleneck
The hypothesized Finnish population bottleneck is supported by archaeological evidence that
shows the number of artifacts significantly decreased at roughly the same time as hypothesized.
When taken together, the genetic and archaeological records suggest that there may have been a
population bottleneck. The hypothesized populationbottleneck circa 4000 BP (2000 BCE) has
been increasingly researched over the past few decades, as genetic evidence has come to support
the existing archaeological evidence for such an event. Recent genetic testing has shown that there
is very low diversity on the Y chromosome, suggesting that the number of male ancestral lineages
was small, especially compared to the rest of Europe. This is evidence for a population bottleneck
that killed a large portion of the population at some point in the past. In addition, there are genetic
differences between eastern and western Finlandthe presence of Finnish Disease Heritage, where
certain genetic diseases are found in proportions different from the rest of the Europe, as is
common in groups with decreased genetic diversity. Other arguments that explain the same
evidence in other ways have been proposed and no consensus has been reached on which side is
correct. The archaeological evidence is rooted in the number of artifacts found that can be dated to
before and after the hypothesized population bottleneck. This research relies on the assumption that
a higher number of artifacts dated to a certain

Compare And Contrast William Wallace Vs Braveheart
Braveheart vs. William Wallace
The movie Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson and released in 1995, is an epic tale about a
Scottish hero named William Wallace. The movie is exceptionally accurate when compared with
other historical movies. However, changes have been made to make the film more entertaining and
romantic. Despite some minor historical glitches, Braveheart is wonderfully composed and really
gives the viewer a good idea of what living in Scotland in the 13th 14th centuries would have been
like.

Those actors which weren t already fluent in Gaelic would have had to learn the translation in an
effort to have performed with emotion and feeling. It s hard to act out words that have no
meaning to the actor. Another downfall to a film almost entirely in Gaelic was its audience. The
audience for this production was for the most part English speaking. This fact alone would have
called for subtitles. Not only are subtitles more expensive for the producer, they also make the
picture less enjoyable for its patrons (Braveheart, commentary). This inaccuracy of language can,
however be forgiven. The language was changed for one simple reason, to make the movie more

Chemiluminescence Lab Report
Chemiluminescence is a reaction well known to those who enjoy crime scene shows. Luminol is
first synthesized in the experiment. Then, the crude luminol produced is oxidized to release
photons giving off a light blue glow in a dark room. In a crime scene show, the blood acts as a
catalyst aiding in the oxidation of luminol and hydrogen peroxide resulting in the blue glow 1.
Introduction:
As seen on any crime scene investigation show, such as CSI Miami, traces of cleaned up blood
left behind can been seen with the spray of a chemical called luminol. When applied on an area, it
lights up where blood has been due to a chemical reaction. Chemiluminescence it is also found in

If the amounts of luminol produced would be much less if the amounts of NaOH and acetic acid
were changed. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol.
3.In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How
would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead?
Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot
water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would
be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield.
4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed
with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane?
Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both
organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would
reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency.

Similarities Between The United States And The Judicial...
Believe it or not, the democratic principles, like our government, of today is based off of the
government established by the Roman Republic. First off, the Romans created a separation of
power in the government, as a system of checks and balances. For example, the Executive branch
of the Roman Republic had two consuls, who were elected by the assembly and served for one
year as chief executives and commander in chief of the army. This is much like the Executive
branch of the United States, where we have one president who serves a four year term as chief

Fair Labor Standards Act In 1938
Believe it or not, before 1938, there was a time when children as young as 8 10 years old
(sometimes even younger) would be forced to work until midnight or later in America during the
time of the industrial revolution (Bennett Alexander Hartman, 2001). There were simply no laws to
regulate the maximum number of hours that children could work, how old they had to be, or how
much they had to at least be paid. Thus, in 1938, Congress invoked its constitutional powers to
regulate interstate commerce and passed a law known as the Fair Labor Standards Act(FLSA) that
addresses these malpractices by employers.

The increasing real estate growth has mainly been driven by a strong economy, urbanization and
growing middle class. The stabilizing legal environment, considerable credit expansion and
increased spending on infrastructure by government have also contributed to the growth.
Nevertheless, the market faced difficulties in 2011 due to high cost of land, high inflation, a weak

The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay
Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God
created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created
first, they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief
that women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority
over women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley
wrote and released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in
1818. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to
no attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the
dominance of males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of
Mary Shelley s novel, The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus.
Prometheus was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of
fire from the gods to give to mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was
giving mankind too much power. In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that
Prometheus liver would be pecked out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would
grow back so that the suffering would never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The

also defined by Mr. Keating during class time. Conformity is when one or a few people are
influenced by a majority of other individuals to follow suit, hence not being themselves or
expressing any creativity. Conformity is negative because it causing an individual to not express
their opinions/beliefs and it is a non individualized way of living. The obvious example from the
filmwas when Mr. Keating explained conformity and how all the boys were walking at different
paces and then it eventually became synchronized. Also, some of the boys began clapping along
which then in turn resulted in all of the other boys clapping too. Another example is at the end...

Mr. Keating stresses the importance of carpe diem within the very first class. He has a unique
way of addressing this topic through showing them the pictures of the older individuals in the
showcases in the hallway and how they once were in the same position of feeling invincible. The
importance of this saying is that it is a constant reminder to make the most of our lifetime
because someday we are all going to die. We cannot keep waiting to do great things in the future,
but instead we need to be determined and take advantage of the now instead of the future. As Mr.
Keating said, we need to make our lives extraordinary. This cannot happen if we do not live each
day to it s fullest. Carpe diem made an impact on all of the boys which was noticeable throughout
the movie. Two examples are, Neil trying out for the play and Knox calling the girl he likes.
Whenever the boys needed motivation or wanted to do something scary, they shouted carpe diem
which truly helped them seize their

Summary Of How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
Julia Alvarez is a famous author from the Dominican Republic. She is most known for winning the
PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles book award in 1991 for her novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their
Accents (Barth). Alvarez s Dominican background and her immigration to the United States
influenced her writing, especially in the novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents.
Alvarez was born in New York in 1950 but lived the first ten years of her life in the Dominican
Republic. At the time, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina, a ruthless tyrant, held a dictatorship over
the Dominican Republic (Barth). How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents takes place at the time
of this dictatorship. Alvarez s father was involved in a plot to overthrow Rafael Trujilloand moved
his family back to New York when it failed (Barth). This abrupt uprooting was a culture shock to
Alvarez who was used to the traditional Dominican culture (Shuman). In her novel How the Garcia
Girls Lost Their Accents, Alvarez describes the struggles that result when children are uprooted
from their Dominican culture.
How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents explores the complications four sisters face when trying to
immerse themselves in American culture. This includes religion, language barriers, fitting in at
American schools, physical appearance, and family dynamics. Alvarez writes about many of the
same struggles she faced during her own cultural transition.
In both Alvarez s and the Garcia sisters experience, learning the

Nowadays, there are many occasions when everyone may want to hire the limousineservice.

Women In The 1990s
On the other hand, certain women have prospered in getting positions of power. As a matter of
example, one of the best efficacious women in German government in the 1990s is Rita SГјssmuth,
she managed to be the president of the Bundestag. Moreover, in the sector of business, Birgit
Breuel assumed the control and power following the murder of Detlev Rohwedder in the year 1991
of the agency, the influential agency charged with denationalizing and ensuring privatization of the
former East German economy . Additional powerful and noticeable German women in the mid
1990s were like: the manager Public opinion institute o Allensbach; Elizabeth Noelle, and Marion

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
Savannah Dye
Short Essay #3
October 18, 2016
Invasion of the Marriage Police
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is widely dubbed an anti Communist film by those who have seen
it. The plot of the movie is that unfamiliar, extraterrestrial body snatchers are taking over the
bodies of people in a small town in California while they sleep, and replacing them with clones
that lack emotion. For the most part, a general consensus has been reached that the mass hysteria
about the pod people in the film is reflective of the red scare consumed society of the 1950 s.
However, the article that I read that was written in response to this film suggests that it is instead a
cynical representation of post WWII, traditional American domesticity.
The article that I read that was pertaining to Don Siegel s 1956 adaptation of Invasion of the Body
Snatchers is called Lovelier the Second Time Around: Divorce, Desire, and Gothic Domesticity in
Invasion of the Body Snatchers , written by Jennifer L. Jenkins. Jenkins suggests that rather than
being a science fiction film that has an anti Communism message, Invasion of the Body Snatchers
is actually a Gothic narrative that presents domesticity and marriage in general as a crippling
institution. The 20 page article offers up many examples throughout the film that reinforce the idea
that the transformed pod people represent the traditional, domesticated individuals while those who
remain in their authentic state represent non conforming

Essay on Analysing the Recent Economic Recession and Its...
The business cycle is the short run alternation between economic downturns and economic upturns
(Investopedia n.d.). A recession is an economic downturn and happens in every country and some
recessions are worse than others and the output of GDP and employment are falling farther and
faster. The great depression lasted from 1929 1933 and was a deep prolonged downturn in the
business cyclebefore a recovery/expansion of the business cycle occurred and GDP and
employment started to rise (Krugman Wells. 2012). The next recessionlasted from 1981 1982 and
was comparatively smaller than the first (Krugman Wells. 2012). More recently in 2001 a slump
in the economy was noted and was followed by the great rescission of 2007 2009 (Krugman ...

Pertaining to the peripheral nervous system, it is found the sensory division of it. The neurons that
form this division, also called afferent neuron, transmit electrical impulses from several receptors
located throughout the body to the central nervous system in order to further analyze and process the
stimuli.
2)What components of the nervous system are involved in skeletal muscle movement? How does

7)What is myelin and how does it affect the transmission of nerve impulses? Identify the cells
responsible for formation of myelin.
Myelin is an isolating covering consisting in repeating layer around the axon. It is high in lipids
and low in proteins, thus its white color and isolating power. Because many axons are myelinated,
electric impulse is able to undergo salutatory movement which accelerates its transmission.
Myelination is completed by oligodendrocytes in CNS and neurolemmocytes in the PNS.
8)What are the scleroses in Multiple Sclerosis and where do they occur? How does this influence
nerve transmission?
Scleroses are scarring at myelinated sites caused by multiple inflammatory events as a consequence
of one s immune system cells attacking oligodendrocytes. If this fate continues long enough, loss of
function can occur due to disruption of electric impulse through axons.

Differences Between Greeks And The Mediterranean Sea
Greeks have been in America since about 1528. Greece is located at the southeast end of Europe on
the Mediterranean Sea. The first recorded Greeks colonized in Florida, which is where about 77
thousand Greeks still inhabit today as well as a majority of the East Coast. Greeks believe in a
simple four step process to being healthy and if these four basic kinds of things are in order they
will be healthy but if they are out of order, illness will occur. I chose to do my research on Greeks
because I had heard of the popular Mediterranean Diet talked about for years. I have also seen
movies about Greek culture, like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but did not know all the traditions of
the Greeks.
The four step process of health maintenance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example Epione is the goddess of the soothing of pain and Iaso is the goddess of
recuperation from illness. As far as my research shows, most modern Greeks go to physicians to
restore their health. There are also Greeks who use a new alternative form of medicine used
today called Hellenistic pagans, these are people who pray to the Greek Gods to help them heal.
They also use dietary management using foods that are easy to digest like soups to detoxify
their bodies. Another way to restore health is to correct the four step process if you are doing
something wrong. To protect their health from the evil eye, Greeks wear garlic, amulets, or make
a cross out of ash behind a child s ear. The evil eye curse is when someone has envy for another,
and this superstition has been around for many years and symptoms include headache, nausea and
confusion. Greeks also knock wood to guard against misfortune.
Many cultures also have rites, which are ceremonial acts. Birth rites in the Greek culture are very
important, because family is important, so birth is celebrated. Gifts are given to pregnant women
like little amulets to guard against evil eye or gold coins. Families also often honor traditional
names in the family by bestowing the name on the baby. For the marriage rites the ceremony is
spoken in Greek or English, but there are traditional parts that

The Catacomb Saints
A 1578 discovery of tombs in Rome has many people baffled. The tombs have the skeletons of
Christian Martyrs who were considered saints because of their unwavering bravery and loyalty
to their faith. The skeletons were called the Catacomb Saints. The skeletons also had jewelry
wigs, crowns and armor. They were displayed in many churches in order to remind people that
riches await loyal Christians after they die. Even though this may sound like a strange story and
many people would have a hard time believing it, it is actually true. Paul Koudounaris, who was an
art historian, was very fascinated with the story of the saints. He traveled throughout Europe in
order to find the status of every saint. He also wrote a book about the skeletons entitled

Essay on The Horse Fair by Rosa Bonheur
The Horse Parade Dozens of horses are charging through the fair grounds, each hoof vibrating the
ground, which causes chaos to erupt. Some horses are white as for a person of royalty, and others
a mysterious brown. Through all this chaos, Rosa Bonheur paints what is before her. Her painting
is called The HorseFair. The painting itself is 8 feet tall by 16 feet wide.1 The Horse Fair is
located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.1 Bonheur uses a panoramic view in her painting.2
The Horse Fair was inspired by the horse market that Rosa Bonheur use to visit on Boulevard De

Bonheur was an important figure in women s right; she herself reflects the social movement for
women. She was a women that didn t let society s standards keep her down; she worked hard to
build her career. Bonheur was the first woman in France to get a permit to wear pants.1 The
police s reasoning for allowing Rosa this permit was because of health, and her doctor co signed
the permit.1 The slaughterhouses and fairgrounds would dirty her dresses thus it was impractical
for her to wear a dress. Bonheur was smart she knew what wearing pants would do to her career.1
She knew buyers would not purchase paintings that came from a woman who wore pants, so
Bonheur would wear dresses to social events. Naturalism in art is both a style and a theory of
accurate representation of details in demonstrating an object or living thing.2 For example, to
portray an animal anatomically correctly, one needs to see the animals from the inside out. Similar
to Leonardo Da Vinci, Bonheur would dissect the animal to understand the anatomy.1 Unlike Da
Vinci, Bonheur strictly dissected animals. Being anatomically correct is a huge key in making a
piece of work realistic. The purpose of explaining her work is to prove that Rosa Bonheur displays
naturalism through her painting. Rosa Bonheur used many structural elements in creating The
Horse Fair; in addition to Bonheur s anatomical accuracy, she used chiaroscuro, and color to display
naturalism. Bonheur uses

Influence Of Parenting Styles And Practices Globally
Numerous factors have been studied to account for different parenting styles and practices globally.
The attitude and response of parents to various parenting practices is based on the knowledge or
information they are exposed to or available to them. This study intends to examine the influence of
education on parents involvement in raising their children especially outside of school. Quantitative
method will be utilized based on the secondary data from national survey of parents.

2008).
Research on parenting also has shown that parent education is related to a warm, social climate in
the home. Shumow and Miller (2001) described parental home involvement as those conversations
between parent and child that focused on school experiences, while school involvement was
conceptualized as parents availability for contact with the school. Epstein and Sanders (2002)
looked at both direct behaviors, such as attending parent teacher conferences, and indirect behaviors,
such as sharing educational expectations with the child. Research indicates that home involvement
had greater impact on academic achievement (VanVoorhis, 2003), while regular parent child
discussions about school and expectations had the greatest impact on educational outcomes of
adolescents, including truancy and dropping out (McNeal, 1999). Klebanov et al. (1994) found that
both mothers education and family income were important predictors of the physical environment
and learning experiences in the home but that mothers education alone was predictive of parental
warmth. Although parental involvement is an important contributor to children s positive school
outcomes, much less is known about the factors that motivate parents involvement practices.
Avvisati et al. (2010) opined that due to recent local and national reforms, parent s behavior and

consumers ethical obligations towards buying bananas must be taken into account. Do consumers

Seminal Viruses And Its Effect On Sperm Cells
Seminal viruses (i.e., HIV, and possibly Zika) can be present as cell free RNA, or in the form of
proviral DNA, or be associated with receptor carrying lymphocytes and macrophages. However,
concrete evidence for an association between sperm cells, and/or the possible internalization of the
Zika virus into de cell does not exist.
Although the net effect on sperm cells is uncertain, yet it is possible that changes in Vivo (or in
Vitro) of extra cellular concentration of the virus may cause semen alterations (i.e., sperm
concentration, semen volume, decline of motility?) of the infected patient, or directly affect the
viability of his spermatozoa. Internalization of the virus (if any) would seem, therefore, to be due to
both the amount of virus in the infected seminal plasma, or the period of time that sperm cells
remain in contact with seminal plasma during the liquefaction process.
If this mechanism is true, however, and post ejaculate internalization of the virus does occur over
a period of time, then an effective and rapid isolation or decontamination method of sperm from
seminal plasma, and other semen fractions or cell systems (i.e., debris, epithelial cells, white blood
cells) that serve as target cells for the virus should be studied, as well as complementary research of
cryopreservation of the resulting sperm pellet fraction.
The physiological significance of decontamination and/or cryopreservation of spermatozoa in
human semen that has been compromised by the

Rory Coleman is only two of 40 spring walk on tryouts to make the UCF football team. Before
arriving to UCF and stepping on the football field to earn his uniform however, Coleman found
himself on entirely different field in an entirely different uniform.
Coleman is a purple heart veteran who served four years active duty as a combat medic in the
United States Army. He is currently serving in the reserves as a medical instructor while pursuing a
degree in psychology at UCF as a full time student athlete.
Coleman and his family are no strangers to Central Florida. Born and raised in Orlando, Coleman
attended Lake Brantley High School where he was offered football scholarships from multiple D 2
and D 3 colleges. He has always had a passion for playing football, but decided to fulfill his
grandfather s legacy and join the Army straight out of high school at age 18.

emergency bowel resection.
I was never scared of dying, Coleman said. I had the mindset before deploying that I may never
come back. Accepting my fate allowed me to become the best soldier I could without fear or
limitations to help the other guys around me get back safely. I was always the last person on my
mind.
Despite his severe injuries, Coleman regained his health and continued the rest of his service using
his combat experience to train new combat medics in his unit, which he considered his biggest
military accomplishment.
Shortly after leaving the Army, his unit redeployed, but this time with no deaths or serious

Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance
Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays,
supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s
mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth
Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of
thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking,
gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson
s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of
nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of
others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general
public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of
thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although
looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on
these past acts only to repeat them without modification. Emerson further warns, a foolish
consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds (3). Regarding consistency as foolish and the negative
connotation it carries conveys his strong opinion against it. A hobgoblin causes superstitious fear,
while at the same time this

  • 6. Business Impact Analysis Paper Databases Implement High Availability for Mission Critical Mission critical databases support services that have an immediate, direct, and significant impact on revenue, goodwill, health and safety, and regulatory compliance. They require more attention than other systems. I will be discussing the following topics in this paper 1.Understand why implementing high availability for mission critical databases is so important to IT s success. 2.Learn why true availability relies on people, process, and technology. 3.Understand database methodology and approach to implementing high availability. Current Situation: For most systems, efficient backup/recovery processes and technology will meet recovery time (RTO) and recovery point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, an Info Tech survey found that a BIA has a significant impact on setting appropriate recovery time objectives (RTOs) and appropriate spending. Mission critical system uptime depends on people, process, and technology. If people and processes are ignored, the system becomes significantly more vulnerable to human error the number one cause of downtime. My Research Recommendation: Integrate these principles when planning for high availability Step 1 Take a proactive approach to high availability. Attention to and investment in high availability tends to happen reactively after system failures. When you proactively address high availability, you ll give yourself time to holistically approach HA and address people, process, and technology gaps. Step 2 It is the responsibility of IT to ensure the business has been informed about the options and costs of higher availability. Business users can t assess time impact of downtime in an information vacuum. IT team SMEs often acutely aware of the impact of system downtime should take a first cut to assess the impact of downtime, achievable recovery times, and options to improve availability Step 3 It is the responsibility of the business to decide what projects to fund. Business stakeholders must decide whether to fund a project, not the IT team. It is up to the business to make an informed decision about the availability investments ... Seashells In Fahrenheit 451 In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury speculated many things, but one thing that he speculated that came true was people will wear headphones or seashells instead of talking to each other and that we would talk through the headphones instead of talking on our phones. He showed this when Mildred and Montag were home together and Mildred has the seashells in her ears. She had both ears plugged with the electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly, saw him, and nodded (Bradbury, 22). This happens in our society when students are walking in the halls between classes and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other. • 8. Response Execution Essay Response Structure Karrie Colin AJS/562 January 28, 2013 George Wilson Response Structure Creating an emergency response plan is very important in any business. There are different plans for medical, fire, police, and school. The following plans are imperative in any environment. There are many things that will happen and Incident Command System (ICS) will help to provide the responders with an effective system that works. But before we go into the structures, an understanding of an incident command system needs to be addressed. According to OSHA, n.d., ICS is a standardized on scene incident management concept designed specifically to allow responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the complexity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows hospitals to know how many beds they are going to need. Demobilization is the next level. In this level, the responders are either sent back to the area they came from, set back in service after they transport a victim, or they are cancelled all together. The last level is termination. In this level, the incident commander decides that no further action is required and everyone is sent back to their units. The next thing we need to look at are the responsibilities of the incident commander. The first one, according to FEMA, 1999, is to rescue all victims. The second is making sure the victims are taken out of the situation and moved to a medical facility. And the third is to make sure the personnel are safe. Next we will look at fire and rescue. The organization of the incident command is almost the same as the medical responders. According to Fire and Rescue, 2008, the following are the organizational areas for fire and rescue: Organization on the incident ground, this gives the Incident Commander a recognized system from which to work when organizing and using resources at an Incident, Incident Risk Management, the principal consideration of Incident Commanders is safety of their personnel. Therefore, prior to deciding upon the tactics an assessment of risk must be performed. Pros And Cons Of Police Report I think that the pros and cons of police using reports when they testify is that one pro is that they will be informed on what all happened and not just their side to the story. I also think that is a con at the same time since they are able to use their reports to be prepared and that also gives them ample amount of time to change the story just a little to coincide with other officers testimony. In one article that I found it stated that a homicide detective said he routinely takes his case files home at least one week before trial and reviews everything. • 10. A Case Study of Singapore Introduction Singapore has long built its economy on its strategic positioning for trade. The country is now home to the world s second largest container port according to the World Shipping Council (2013). The country s position as a leading trade makes it a natural place to find solutions to global supply chain issues, and has also encouraged a significant amount of foreign direct investment in the country. Foreign companies have set up shop in Singapore, often in either services or retail. This paper will analyze some of the issues that foreign firms dealing in Singapore have with respect to global supply chain management. Case Study #1: Starbucks Starbucks has a significant retail presence in Singapore, but it also benefits from the country s geographic position in a couple of ways. The first is that Singapore is situated in the heart of a fertile coffee growing region critical islands like Java, Sumatra and New Guinea are nearby, as are high volume growing regions like Vietnam. Starbucks has set up a regional distribution center in Singapore in order to manage the flow of goods and services throughout Asia, both in terms of raw materials and finished goods. Changi Airport Group (2013) notes that Starbucks is one of many Western countries to have such a regional distribution center. With stores throughout Southeast Asia, the coffee company can organize its goods in Singapore for onward distribution, either overland to Malaysia and Thailand, or over sea to Indonesia ... • 11. Essay On Alternative Dispute Resolution Introduction This paper will examine when it is appropriate to attempt alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes for disputes and conversely when it is fitting for matters to be decided in a courtroom with black robed judges and well dressed lawyers. Complementing the correct intervention [courtroom, facilitative ADR or another form of ADR] at the right time, price and place with the right disputants is not necessarily an easy task (Wade 2010, p. 13) and the line separating alternative dispute resolution processes and judicial intervention can be blurred especially as judicial officers conduct, refer or mandate parties to participate in ADR (Sourdin, 2009, p. 190). Proof that fine panelled courtrooms may not be the answer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But ADR is much more than that. The consensual interaction between the disputants during an ADR process is how conflict is resolved (Street, 2002). Whereas a court determination takes over responsibility for the matter (Heilbronn et al, 1996, p. 262) and imposes an outcome that may not be palatable to either party (David, 1991, p. 4). A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from a dispute but it may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place. When there is a need for the parties to a dispute to continue to have a relationship (for example in families and workplaces) failing to address the issues that caused the conflict in the first place may mean that it hasn t been resolved and this may lead to further conflict. If the serious [and] important needs of parties in dispute are not met this can compound... the problem (Zehr, 1985, p. 1). In addition to the monetary costs associated with court action and tremendous social costs there are also psychological costs associated with anxiety and hostility [and]... lost opportunities for productive, cooperative endeavors (Burgess, 1989 as cited by Spencer and Hardy, 2009, p. 669). • 12. Literary Analysis Of Saki s The Interlopers Saki, in The Interlopers, says that our animalistic human nature traps us in blindness, but when we re raised in a kind civilization, we choose to use friendship as a freedom from our inner violence. Humans as a whole, have an animalistic nature to them. Saki starts the story with one of the main character going on a hunt. Saki states, [A] man stood one winter night watching and listening, as though he waited for some beast of the woods to come within the range of his vision, and, later, of his rifle (Saki 6). Ulrich is stalking the woods for as Saki stated beast of the woods but rather he patrolled the dark forest in quest of a humanenemy. In other words, Saki says that we, as humans, have an animalistic nature. This animalistic nature traps us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, [A] s boys they had thirsted for one another s blood, (7). The dictionary has a word for this definition bloodlust. As stated before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are supposed to be innocent and honorable. He continues with, Georg, who was nearly blinded with the blood which trickled across his eyes (8). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, bloodlust is the desire to kill or maim others ; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki goes on to stating, No, I can scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes, said Georg, and in any case I don t drink wine with an enemy (9). This blindness is caused by the bloodlust between the two souls, or in other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic nature. Georg s animalistic human nature has blinded him in hatred, which has caused him to not be able to see the similarities between him and Ulrich. This blindness leaves when we re raised in a kind civilization. Saki starts the story with the two souls coming face to face with each other, which is what they ve been wanting for a long time. • 13. The Basics of Toilet Training Essay The process of toilet training may be considered the most challenging process that parents encounter with their child during the early stages of his or life. Toilet training can be described as an individualized developmental process that all children will progress at their own developmental pace and temperament, not the child s chronological age. Toilettraining should be a natural result of the child s developmental readiness. Therefore the primary goal can only be achieved when the child is ready and willing. Just like any learning process for a child, including toilet training, it effects the development of the whole child and it is important that the child has the necessary physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills to begin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the toilet training process, a child must obtain body awareness and be able to associate bodily sensation to the result that follows, poop or pee. Then after he masters that skill he must acquire the certain skills that will allow him to picture what he wants to do (use the toilet), create a plan to get here, begin using it, and remain in place long enough to finish, which requires both memory and concentration (Wolraich 26). The next and probably most difficult readiness sign a parent must recognize before starting the toilet training process is emotional growth. There are many emotional issues that can greatly affect toilet training that include a eagerness for independence, a child s need for control, testing of rules and limits, desire to win parents approval, and fears of toilet use. If a child resists the idea of using the toilet when mentioned he may be experiencing an emotional issue and the parent should wait for a better time to follow through with the process. If the child is continually repeating signs of resistance a parent may want to rethink if it is too soon to begin the process and understand that the child may be going through a major change in the his life that is creating stress. Parents should know that it is not the best time to toilet train when a new baby is expected soon or has recently arrived, the family has newly moved, the child has just ... This event has been widely participated and engaged by the public because people love the variety of designs and patterns on the Red Cup. They even take picture with the cup to express their supports on social media. According to Starbucks, the company proudly announces that a picture of their holiday cup gets posted on Instagram every 14 seconds, within the first 48 hours of the Red Cup s debut. To further explain, Starbucks introduces the latest cup covered in bright red to dark cranberry color, with no patterns, except the company s logo. After the first impression, some people accuse the company becoming an anti Christmas corporation. They also points out that the Red Cup serves as a symbol of Satan s presence. Angelman syndrome can be diagnosed within the first year of the life if the abnormalities are noticed and investigated, but the disorder is more often diagnosed between 1 and 4 years of age as the child s abnormalities become more clinically apparent (Bevinetto). In order to confirm the diagnosis, a blood test must be done to look at the child s genetics (Angelman). Then, a combination of genetic test can reveal the chromosome defects. There are three different defect tests may reveal: parental DNA pattern, missing chromosome, or gene mutation. Parental DNA pattern test screens for three of the four genetic defaults that cause this syndrome. To find out if the chromosome is missing either a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test or a comparative genomic hybridization test (CGH) can show if portions of chromosomes are missing. It is rare if Angelman syndrome occurs with only a gene mutation. This happens when the UBE3A gene is present and active, but mutated. The four victims in this book where apart of the Christian church which in their community, which was very ethnically diverse, Christianity was the most popular religion. In the book we see that Christianity was more than just a religion, it was their way of living. The villagers went by Gods words and they would socialize in the church. We also notice that in the book Capote creates the following stereotype: good people are believers of the lord and bad people are followers of Satan or are lost. The way that he creates this is by using the following non believers of the lord characters to represent this stereotype: Perry and Dick. Perry in the story reveals to have homosexual tendencies, which in Christianity homosexuality is a sin, and Dick represents the seven deadly sins. Dick desires money, sex, and power while Perry only desires to be loved and to get an education. When applied on an area, it lights up where blood has been due to a chemical reaction. Chemiluminescence it is also found in the insect called fireflies 2. The reaction uses ATP as an energysource ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the amounts of luminol produced would be much less if the amounts of NaOH and acetic acid were changed. This is due to less acetic acid being able to form the precipitate or the crude luminol. 3.In the luminol synthesis reaction, why was cold water used for rinsing the filtration step? How would the efficiency of the filtration be affected by hot water used instead? Cold water was used because it does not dissolve solids as readily as hot water does. Using hot water in the filtration step would result in some of the crude luminol being dissolved. This would be less efficient since product is being removed and would give less of a product yield. 4.When isolating the solid through precipitate and vacuum filtration, why was the solid not rinsed with a solvent like ethyl acetate or dichloromethane? Water is used because it is not an organic solvent. Ethyl acetate and dichloromethane are both organic solvents and would dissolve the crude luminol product. This like adding hot water would reduce the yield of the product and reduce efficiency. 5.What is the difference between chemiluminescence and fluorescence? Believe it or not, the democratic principles, like our government, of today is based off of the government established by the Roman Republic. First off, the Romans created a separation of power in the government, as a system of checks and balances. For example, the Executive branch of the Roman Republic had two consuls, who were elected by the assembly and served for one year as chief executives and commander in chief of the army. This is much like the Executive branch of the United States, where we have one president who serves a four year term as chief executive and commander in chief of the army. Fair Labor Standards Act In 1938 Believe it or not, before 1938, there was a time when children as young as 8 10 years old (sometimes even younger) would be forced to work until midnight or later in America during the time of the industrial revolution (Bennett Alexander Hartman, 2001). There were simply no laws to regulate the maximum number of hours that children could work, how old they had to be, or how much they had to at least be paid. Thus, in 1938, Congress invoked its constitutional powers to regulate interstate commerce and passed a law known as the Fair Labor Standards Act(FLSA) that addresses these malpractices by employers. • 39. The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first, they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel, The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power. In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked out by a bird every day. Seminal Viruses And Its Effect On Sperm Cells Seminal viruses (i.e., HIV, and possibly Zika) can be present as cell free RNA, or in the form of proviral DNA, or be associated with receptor carrying lymphocytes and macrophages. However, concrete evidence for an association between sperm cells, and/or the possible internalization of the Zika virus into de cell does not exist. Although the net effect on sperm cells is uncertain, yet it is possible that changes in Vivo (or in Vitro) of extra cellular concentration of the virus may cause semen alterations (i.e., sperm concentration, semen volume, decline of motility?) of the infected patient, or directly affect the viability of his spermatozoa. Internalization of the virus (if any) would seem, therefore, to be due to both the amount of virus in the infected seminal plasma, or the period of time that sperm cells remain in contact with seminal plasma during the liquefaction process. • 54. Analysis Of Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Ralph Waldo Emerson, a loyal follower of transcendentalism and writer of several debatable essays, supports the idea of one following his or her own conscience instead of the restrictions of society s mind. Transcendentalism, an American philosophical movement, takes place in the Nineteenth Century in which transcendentalists break free from the chains bounding them to the repetition of thoughtand action. In his essay, Self Reliance, he asserts the importance of independent thinking, gives clear and concise examples of independent thinkers, and trusting oneself. I agree with Emerson s emphasis on thinking with initiative in Self Reliance when he conveys the importance of nonconformity because independent self trust advances society. Emerson believes that fear of others misunderstanding holds one back from thinking with without consistency. The general public has no other data for computing other than past acts (Emerson 3). The comparison of thinking to computing implies the act of thinking as a rote activity without change. Although looking upon past acts may help better plan for the future, Emerson infers that these people look on these past acts only to repeat them without modification.
