American Federation Of Teacher s President s Randi...
The article started by mentioning that the common core have come under severe criticism by early
childhood education experts. Those experts say that the common cores are not developmentally
appropriate for students; and so as the American federation of teacher s president s Randi
Weingarten, which also called for revamping of these early educationstandards. Weingarten called
the early childhoodexpert Nancy Carlsson for the Defending the Early Years. Defending the Early
Years, a non profit project of the Survival Education Fund, was created to help students, parents,
and teacher understand why the common care states standards are not inappropriate for kid, third
grade. The document also helped teachers and parents advocate against Common Core State
Standards CCSS, and promote rules and in class practices that can best help meet children s needs.
The six reason to reject common core state standards from k to 3rd are: one, many k to 3rd grade
CCSS are not based on developmental knowledge of young children learning. The CCSS was made
to develop what is required at high school to the early year, but it had led to many mismatches. The
CCSS lists facts and knowledge that don t match how young children develop, think, or learn.
Another mismatch is that the CCSS requires young children to learn facts that they are not ready
for. It also led teachers teach didactic instruction instead of the experiential, play based activities,
and learning young children need. The second reason

The Impact Of Life Coaching On The Goal Attainment, Mental...
In recent years, life coaching has emerged as a new psychological concept to provide individuals
overall successful personal and professional life. The life coaching is gaining mainstream
recognition to help people to achieve their goals and to improve joy and happiness in life. The
purpose of this research is to identify the impact of life coachingon the goalattainment, mental
health and well being of the peoples. The results have proven that person who takes life coaching
are more capable to attain their goals and increased mental stability, and overall joy in their life
against those individuals who do not receive it.
Introduction
The life coaching is the way of helping people to achieve their highest level of desired goals or
happiness and fulfillment. There has been very little heard or discuss about the concept of life
coaching because it is a very recent phenomenon almost emerged during last two decades.
However, the concept of coaching is not very new it has always been there in every field, be it
sports, education, companies and many more. The coaching is a process which helps people to
maintain a positive approach about moving towards their goals. The life coaching helps to bridge
the gap between peoples dreams and their life. It is a special branch of psychotherapy, that aims to
motivate and help people to make better decisions and create those environments that supports their
overall well being. The life coaching involves a series of steps that

The Oil Industry
In the oil industry, well testing is a very useful tool to be able to model and interpret what
processes are going on underground in a reservoir system and what effect it would have if
drilled into. From well testing, it is quite common to observe a pressure transient derivative
signature showing an upward continuous trend. These types of curves are presented by a
pressure derivative versus time log log scale plot in different software s with KAPPA being an
example. This trend can be interpreted as showing the presence of nearby no flow boundaries.
However, comparing this data with such seismic and geological evidence it is often concluded that
these such boundaries appear too close to the well. Another possibility to explain this type of...

The objectives of this study are to: 1.Simulate reservoir production of 100% water with no oil or
gas production. 2.Observe reservoir production when water and oil is being produced at a
constant rate. 3.Observe reservoir behaviour when heterogeneity is introduced and multiple
reservoir parameters are altered to observe different well test pressure derivative response curves
in KAPPA. The initial model was based on the fact the reservoir was a homogeneous, corner
point, Cartesian model which had no oil and gas production initially but produced water at a
constant rate of 10000 m3/day for a period of 31 days. This model then was then compared
analytically with KAPPA to see if the data matched the data that was inputted. The next step was
to add oil into the system to be able to give a more relevant model to real life scenarios otherwise
the data used beforehand was meaningless and couldn t be representative of a real life scenario. To
accomplish this and to simulate with the initial conditions, the rate was reduced due to the
introduction of a bubble point pressure of 150 bar and an oil production rate along with a water
production rate. Finally, the last objective of this simulation was to change the properties of the
reservoir to make it become heterogeneous and then comparing the derivative response curve with
those of the parameters such as: change

How Does The 2008 Games Affect The Economy
Economic Impact To see the impact of the 2008 Games on the Chinese economy, we must first
look at how much money was spent and what it was spent on. While $40 billion is the average
number given when saying how much the 2008 Games cost, only a little more than $6 billion
went to sports related costs, (Gaines, 2015) including $500 million going to building the Bird s
Nest, the Olympic track and field venue. The rest went to a new airport terminal, a light rail, roads
and other preparations such as security and the environmental clean up ( The cost of the Beijing

Study of Oxidation of Stainless Steel in Hot rolling...
Study of Oxidation of Stainless Steel in Hot rolling
Background
Studies on the oxidation of stainless in hot rolling have obtained much attention during the last few
decades where the finishing temperature ranges from 850 1100 В°C.
Oxidation is the formation of oxide rich scale that slows down further oxidation when formed. In
stainless steels at elevated temperatures (up to 1100В°C), this oxide scale is necessary as it is
predominantly chromium rich and prevents further oxidation. On the other hand the metal lost in
the formation of oxide will reduce the effective strength of the steel section [1].
According to the British Stainless Steel Association [2], it is obvious that the oxidation resistance
depends mainly on temperature, gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sources may include previous researches and experimental results in that field. The
information gathered is to be referenced and clear. The experimental results must also be realistic
and ends with reasonable results.
Preliminary findings
In recognition of this problem, the School of Mechanical, Material and Mechatronics Engineering
at the University of Wollongong has set a developed high temperature steel testing experiment, and
already made recommendations which will be a starting point for future research about various
factors affecting the oxidation process. This document represents the test conducted on steel in hot
rolling particularly steel grade AISI 445. We describe our preliminary findings regarding the
oxidation of stainless in hot rolling and make specific recommendations for procedures that will
lead to an improved experience.

Effect of steel grade composition on oxidation resistance (alloying element)
The chromium content plays a big role in oxidation resistance or scaling. Most austenitic steels,
with chromium contents of at least 18%, can be used at temperatures up to 870В°C and grades
309, 310 and 2111HTR even higher while martensitic and ferritic steels have lower resistance to
oxidation and hence lower useful operating temperatures.
Also, Nickel also helps improve oxidation resistance. This is probably due to improved oxide layer
adhesion. Silicon and aluminium are also added to improve oxidation resistance in limited

The Partition Of India By Bapsi Sidhwa
Before the Partition of India, in 1947, India was considered a country with a reasonably peaceful
history. However, during and after the Partition, sexual violence, both towards men and women,
escalated, resulting in the rape and abduction of over 80,000 women. Cracking India, by Bapsi
Sidhwa, tells a story that highlights these violent acts by both Muslims and Hindus, through the
eyes of a disabled young Parsi girl named Lenny, who witnesses first hand the violenceof Partition
when she mistakenly participates in the abduction of her ayah, Shanta. Throughout Cracking India,
Lenny observes as the religions involved in Partition become increasingly violent towards both men
and women, within their own religions and against others. Lenny, who begins the novel as a very
naГЇve young Parsi girl, comes to understand that the foundations of violence in her surroundings
are largely gendered and that the experience of this violence is differentiated along gender lines
(Rastegar 27). Lenny witnesses the evolution of Ayah s suitors, (who are Parsi, Hinduand Muslim),
from men interested in being with Ayah to men who are desperate to control Ayah. As Partition
gets more violent, Ice Candy Man, one of Ayah s suitors who is Muslim, takes on the role of a
minor nationalist leader in their area and eventually coordinates a mob of Muslims to come to the
Sethi house an abduct Lenny, who is Hindu (Rastegar 27). When Lenny witnesses the change in
behavior of Ayah s suitors she feels like

Are There Common Cycling Injuries?
My right knee just started hurting about 4 days ago. I am having sharp pains on the lateral side
of my knee. I had to bike the last couple days with just my left leg, which (wasn t a good thing)!
Hopefully, it will be better tomorrow! David Shirley, taking a few days off in Portland, Oregon.
Asking the question implies the answer; of course, cycling has its list of common injuries, which
are amplified when a cyclist rides cross country over a period of several months which is the
situation with David.
Head Injuries
Head injuries are common among bicyclists who do not wear helmets, which come as no
surprise, considering it is not that difficult to hit a pothole while gazing at scenery or to be hit by
a cell phone obsessed driver. About 540,000 cyclists in the U.S. visit the emergency room each
year, and of those, 67,000 have head injuries.

How Music Has A Influence On Physical Aspect Of Sexual...
Music has a huge influence on physical aspect of a sexual relationship, as well as the emotional
part of relationships. Music speaks to the mind, body and soul and many singers take advantage
of this influence to express their views on sex and relationships. Song lyrics often have implicit
meanings and literary references. One song in particular called Stimulated, by the rapper Tyga;
real name Michael Ray Nguyen Stevenson portrays the physical aspect of a sexual relationship.
In his song Stimulated, Tyga sings about having sex with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner before she
turns eighteen. The lyrics include They say she young, I should ve waited/She a big girl, dawg,
when she stimulated. These lyrics imply a coarse, vulgar, sparsely disguised metaphor for having
sex. The hidden message in these lyrics is that if the underage girl is stimulated, then it is okay to
have intercourse with her. Furthermore, Tyga is violating the age of consentopenly while at the same
time indirectly admitting statutory rape. These lyrics are clearly encouraging the sexual battery of
statutory rape and blurring the age of consent for sex. The lyrics are hypothetically influencing the
thoughts and behaviors in a way that it is lessening the importance of statutory rape. Encouraging
the listener to take the age of consent and the offence of statutory rape lightly. Switching gears onto
the emotional component of relationships, the singer Britney Spears promotes the idea of dating a

The Divine Command Theory, And Natural Law Theory
Philosophers base the idea of objective morality on the assumption that some moral ideals are
universal and should be the moral responsibility of everyone. Subjective moralists counter this
argument by explaining that each moral decision is independent because each moral situation is
unique to its own conditions. Ultimately, these two views shape the nature of moral philosophy and
theology, each describing the different natures of morality(Hammond). These two theories have a
large impact on the thinking process of humans on an everyday basis. This process then leads up
to a person valuing different things more than others. The separation of objective and subjective
theories all boil down to whether or not a theory is universal or not. A subjective theory has an
absence of universal truths, and an objective theory has universal truths. Two vary popular theories
that will take part in my research were the Divine Command Theory, and Natural law theory. Two
theories that may seem similar, but in fact are very different.
Divine Command Theory is a type of ethical relativism that states that morality is dependent on
God s will, and his will, and his way is holy, and will forever be no matter the situation. In other
words as stated by Rachels, what God commands is what is morally right, and what God forbids is
morally wrong (Rachels, 2001). Within this theory, it makes it known that morality cannot exist
separately from God s will.
Divine Command Theory can be closely related

Two Theories Of Utilitarian And Retributive Punishment
The concept of punishment exists in many different forms, each with conflicting views on how to
best approach an offence committed by individuals. Two theories stand at the forefront of
punishment being that of the Utilitarian, and Retributive theories. Each theory presents its own
idea on how punishment ought to be carried out and the core reasoning behind it. The two theories
are also debated within our own Canadian legal system which is referred to as: The Criminal Code
of Canada, where it details the different principles and procedures when sentencing an individual
who has committed a specific offence with guidelines for what sanction should be given. Such
principles/procedures reflect various factors within the two theories, and have undergone different
fluctuations for which theory has dominated throughout history, but have been influenced more by
one theory than from the other. Generally speaking, punishmentis invoked upon offenders for the
pursuit of the common good of mankind for a society that prospers, and not one that is hindered.
Two primary theorists each lead one of the theories of punishment and what its purpose is; one who
stands from a Utilitarian view is Jeremy Bentham, and the other being Immanuel Kant who focuses
on a more Retributive theory of punishment.
The two theories of Utilitarian and Retributive Punishment each have their own views on what the
purpose of punishment is, and of how it is to be invoked in the case of a breach of rules by an
offender. Jeremy Bentham makes his debut by focusing on the theory of Utilitarianism which is
subdivided into two other theories; the Theory of the Good (also referred to as: Hedonism), where
good is pleasure and evil is pain; and the Theory of the Right (also known as: Consequentialism),
which outlines that the right action is that which produces the maximum good of all available
actions. Bentham as a theorist, believes that the primary goal of laws is to prevent wrongful actions
where he summarizes in his opening to Chapter XIII of An Introduction to the Principles of Morals
and Legislation: The general object which all laws have, or ought to have, in common, is to
augment the total happiness of the community; and therefore, in the first

The Great Depression Of The United Kingdom After The...
Introduction
Throughout the world, the economy plays a role in each and every country. One event can cause a
drastic change within the economy and effect the lives of millions of people. Some examples of
these events include the Great Depression, the Industrial Revolution, the United Kingdom leaving
the European Union (Brexit), and many more. The question is; how do people react during times
when the economic status is fluctuating in the world? Therefore, this leads to my proposal: I
suggest researchers conduct a study to see how people react to performance levels of the economy
by turning to religion as their solution.
Brief Literature Review
People Seeking Religion
During times when a country is economically growing, people are less likely to engage with
religious affiliates or engage religious practices/traditions. Jochen Hirschile proposes that during
economic growth, people do the opposite of what Max Webersays about building traits and values
(Secularization Of Consciousness ). Economic Growth actually causes people to have a decline in
traits and values, which ultimately concludes that there is a decrease in religious practices among
people. To support Hirschile, Benjamin Friedman also discusses how economic growth can cause
people to become consequently less moral (The Moral Consequences). On the other hand, people
tend to become more religious during times of economic distress and uncertainty. Simon Metcalfe
and Reginald Harris conducted a study on how the

Education And Liberal Arts Education
A study in general education (liberal arts) affects different aspects of my development both
physically and mentally. A liberal arts education has shaped the form I conceive and return over
individual circumstances. After attending class and reading all the benefits of a liberal arts
education it has shaped the direction I held regarding a Liberal Artseducation. A liberal arts
education has shifted the way I study and the process I go about completing my school work.
Furthermore, from the manner I organize my day to the way I organize my goals, a liberal arts
education really shaped the way I do my everyday schedule. The liberal arts class changed me into
a greater adapted, more efficient and effective member of society. A liberal arts education taught
me the value and efficiency of critical and independent thinker. Within the real world, an individual
who can show aforementioned qualities is higher valued than the person who cannot. With a liberal
arts education, you are more fit to acquire and exhibit these skills. A liberal arts education are
intended to broaden the general knowledge and experiences of the students, and the class
accomplished just that. The class affected my mentality about school and the way I see the real
world.
The meaning and purpose of a liberal arts education are to achieve education further than merely
college core, but also to prepare you for future occupations. A liberal arts education introduces

Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily is a story written by William faulkner which depicts the life of a rather odd
woman. At the beginning of the story, the reader learns that Miss. Emily is dead, but is unaware
of the dark side of her life. The author portrays events in Miss. Emily s life which lead up to the
discovery of her personal life. These events were manipulated over time in order to build suspense
within the reader. Throughout the passage, Falkner manipulates time in order to create tension and
suspense. In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkneruses foreshadowing in order to create tension
and suspense throughout the story. Faulkner immediately hints at what will happen to Homer
Barron when he tells the reader that he never comes back out of the house. For example,
Faulkner states, And that was the last we saw of Homer Barron. And of Miss Emily for some
time. The Negro man went in and out with the market basket, but the front door remained closed.
(Faulkner 7).The author foreshadows that something bad will be revealed to the reader. The
reader is tense because they do not know what happened to Homer. Miss Emily never opening the
door leaves the reader with a suspenseful feeling that cannot be resolved until the story s
conclusion. Later in the story, Faulkner removes the reader s perplexity when he reveals the reason
Homer Barron went missing. The people searched the sealed up room and find that the man himself
lay in the bed (Faulkner 9.) Faulkner reveals the mystery behind the

The cause of elder abuse is multifaceted. Generally, a combination of psychological, social, and
economic factors, as well as mental and physical conditions of the victim and perpetrator
contribute to the occurrence of elder abuse Wagner, Greenberg, Capezuti, 2002 as cited on
(Fulmer Greenberg, 2012). In the developing world family members provide 60% to 80% of
long term care of their elderly significant others (American Psychological Association, 2012).
Consequently, the burden of providing constant physical care needs such as toileting and
bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity of providing care to a physically,
cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be tremendous. Depression,
confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging person can make care
giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012). According to
American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20 hours a
week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work either
part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted

Effect of Temperature on an Enzyme in Hydgrogen Peroxide...
Effect of Temperature on an Enzyme in Hydgrogen Peroxide
Introduction.
The aim of this investigation is to find out how temperature affects the speed at which the
enzyme,Catalase, works best in Hydrogen Peroxide.I hope to achieve reliable results that will
confirm my predictions.
I predict that:
В· By increasing the temperature of the Hydrogen Peroxide, the Catalase will react faster. This is
because the particles have more energy so they will move and react at a faster rate.
В· At about 40c, the Catalase will start to deteriorate because the substrate no longer fits the enzyme
making the enzyme useless.
В· I predict that the enzyme will work at its best at 37c because that is ... Show more content on

I know that with a rise of 10c the rate of reaction will be doubled in a single cell. This is because
the particles are moving faster due to the increase of energy(rate of reactions). As soon as the
temperature becomes too high, the enzyme will become denatured, meaning that the enzyme will no
longer fit the substrate and at this point the rate of reaction slows down rapidly and eventually the
enzyme becomes useless.
I hope to find the temperature at which the enzyme performs best and the temperature at which the
rate of reaction slows down showing the enzyme has become denatured.
An enzyme is a biological catalyst which alters the rate of reaction without being changed itself.
Enzymes are proteins;they have very precise three dimensional shape, which forms a one specific
active site on the enzyme. Each enzyme can only convert one kind of

Bharati Mukherjee s The Management Of Grief
In Bharati Mukherjee s, The Management of Grief, an airplane, bound for India, is bombed mid
flight. Friends and families of the victims are left to wait and eventually identify the remains of
their loved ones. The Canadian government s mandates for relief clash with India s cultural belief
that a parent must always have hope. The conflict of the story occurs with the unlucky families of
the victims that are never found or identified. This conflict affects each familydifferently as they
determine how and how long to manage their grief. Shaila, the main character, awaits for the
return of her husband and sons, identification of their bodies, or a sign that she can let go of her

Zzzz Best Case Study
ZZZZ Best, a carpet cleaning company, was founded by Barry Minkow in 1982 in Reseda,
California. Barry always wished to succeed in business and become the American Dream of
financial success. When he was nine years old, he worked as a telemarketer in a carpet cleaning
business. Six years later, when he was only sixteen years old, he began his personal carpet
business in his parent s garage in Los Angeles (ZZZZ Best Case Places SEC Procedures Under

the United States. Minkow discovered he could become very successful in business through
insurance restoration. He would file a claim for restoration of the business from a natural disaster.
ZZZ Best was profitable in carpet cleaning, yet 85% of the business profits came from fraudulent
insurance restoration business. Minkow used insurance restoration as a cover for the cost of the
money he was acquiring illegally (Taylor). Shortly after, insurance restoration became the major
source of revenue for the company s income, rather than carpet cleaning. Minkow s dream in
becoming successful in business caused him to become more innovative. He started using his
counterfeit financial statements to persuade wealthy entrepreneurs to invest in ZZZZ Best.
Ultimately, Minkow realized that the crucial scam would be to make his company public. This
would enable him to utilize the bank accounts of investors nationwide. By becoming a public

The novel of Empress Orchid is dated back to the historical times in ancient China. As an ethnic
Chinese born and raised in Canada, I found this book to be very relatable as the customs and
traditions that are mentioned in the novel still holds true today, but at the same time unbelievable in
its tactics in rivalry for the emperor s attention. Although I could understand the character s rationale

Washington and the Culper Spy Ring
Espionage, the use of spying to obtain secret information regarding the intentions and capabilities of
other persons, groups, organizations, or states is largely seen as a modern twentieth century
phenomenon (Burds, 2012). In reality, it is one of the oldest political and military acts, appearing in
historical and literary accounts since the beginning of recorded history. A vital tool of statecraft,
espionageshapes foreign policy and changes how wars proceed. Unbeknownst to many Americans,
subterfuge and secrecy would play an important role in the Revolutionary War. George Washington,
commander of the Continental Army, was well aware that he needed reliable intelligence to triumph
over British forces which outmatched and often outnumbered his own. To achieve this, Washington
would establish numerous spy networks over the course of the war, the most successful being the
Culper Spy Ring.
In direct contrast to the story of Washington and the Cherry Tree, the first President of the United
States had once served as a spy himself when he fought in the French and Indian War. At the age of
twenty one, he volunteered to engage with French soldiers and learn whatever he could about their
intentions and fortifications through leading conversations (Kilmeade and Yaeger, 2013). The
experience he gained on that mission would serve him well in his career as a revolutionary.

Medieval Architecture Essay
Medieval Architecture
World Geography 101
December 1, 2010
The Middle Ages, also known as the Medieval era, though scarred with a history of violence and
war, has given the world some of the most marvelous and beautiful pieces of art, particularly in
architecture. The Middle Ages is the name given to the time period from the late 5th century to the
15th century, particular to European history. The construction of these types of buildings was a
constant for various cultures for a thousand years. They can be categorized into three phases; Pre
Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic. The most important buildings during medieval times were
religious, defensive and governmental or power related.

Much of the architecture in the Romanesque era evolved into Gothic architecture. The Gothic era
ran from the 12th century into the 16th century. There wasn t necessarily a clean break from
Romanesque to Gothic styles of architecture, but rather a gradual shift in design. The main
characteristics of Gothic architecture are the pointed ribbed vaults and arches, flying buttresses
and, in place of solid walls, a cluster of columns. Due to the vertical emphasis of the design, the
archways could be redesigned and stretched or pointed. Four main Figure 5 The depressed arch

commonly found within Gothic architecture are the lancet arch, which is simply a steeply
pointed arch, the equilateral arch, the flamboyant arch and the depressed arch as seen in the
King s College Chapel. (see figure 5) Due to the new design of supporting the weight of the
ceiling through the columns and flying buttresses, there was no need for walls made of heavy
materials. With all the columns and archways in place, the structure took on a skeletal look. This
gave way to expanding the once small openings for windows to an expanse of window space
providing plenty of light to the interior of the structure. This space was commonly filled with
stained glass. From this, stained glass

Have you ever wonder why the advertisement boxes on the internet always related to our interests?
This is because the advertising companies know about our preferences and have access to our

The Importance of a Single Authorship of Isaiah
INTRODUCTION
The Importance of a Single Authorship of Isaiah
When a critic attacks the authorship of Isaiah, it is like the devil putting his foot in the door.
Modern criticism has cast doubt on the Bible. The written Word of God is a battlefield and many a
skeptic has tried to dethrone the Bible claiming it is just another book.
Denying a single authorship of Isaiah:
1. Casts doubt on the written Word of God
2. Makes Jesus appear ignorant when He said Isaiah wrote the scroll of Isaiah
3. Promotes skepticism about the authorship of other books
4. Makes Paul appear ignorant in quoting from Isaiah
5. Makes New Testament writers appear ignorant quoting from Isaiah
A Brief Overview of the Book of Isaiah
As a whole, Isaiah can be divided into three main parts:
Isaiah 1 35 describes Messiah as a mighty Ruler and King
Isaiah 36 39 relates to the times of Hezekiah
Isaiah 40 66 describes the Messiah as the meek and lowly Servant of the LORD
Some scholars feel that Isaiah 1 35 and Isaiah 40 66 must be works of different authors. The first
part of Isaiah reveals a Messiah who is a mighty Ruler and King. The last part of Isaiah reveals a
meek and lowly Messiah who is a suffering victim. This shift from a mighty ruler to a suffering
victim, make some critics feel there are at least two authors to Isaiah. Other critics claim that
certain portions of Isaiah 13:24 27 and certain verses in Isaiah 14 and 21 were also written by
someone other than Isaiah. Therefore, according to

As I remember from my travelling experience, a museum exists in each city, even the smallest one

Museums are public instituitons. Their number has increased and their role has transformed over
the last fifty years. They attract a great number of people, from tourists to citizens, from children to

examine the main objectives of its existence.
The most obvious aim is an educational one since museums serve for society in order to conserve,
research and communicate material evidence of people and their environment. Museums give
people the opportunity to determine their place in the world, understand their cultural identity,
develop self respect and respect for others. Nethertheless, to conduct this educational mission,
careful and meaningful selection of objects is required. After being chosen, all the items need to be

Canadian Peacekeeping In Canada
Throughout the world, there has always been conflicts between different nations. One of Canada s
characteristics represents a defining aspect known as peacekeeping, through their beliefs and
interests. Peacekeeping has always been a priority for Canadians to control conflict for Canada and
other nations around the world. Peacekeepingin Canada began in 1957, when Lester B. Pearson

Pearson proposed the idea of having an armed peacekeeping force. Peacekeeping is the active
maintenance of a truce between nations or communities, especially in international military forces.
Canada has significantly impacted peacekeeping, through sending troops on peacekeeping missions
and showing how to resolve conflict, getting money and aid through communities to help more
nations, and raising awareness on peacekeeping politically.

Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary

badness of something was directly correlated to its tendency to produce pleasure or pain. Death
was simply the privation of the sense experiences that we encounter every day. He also argues that
death is not yet present when we are alive, and that we are not alive when death is present. Epicurus
argues that the combination of these two arguments should deter us from fearing death. In
Lucretius s symmetry argument, every individual in the universe is made up of a specific
combination of body and soulatoms. He argues that the finite body and soul atoms of each
individual have recombined an infinite number of times. He further claims that because our atoms
are finite, we have all existed an infinite number of times but recall our past lives due to the
separation of our body and soul. Regardless of whether the soul is immortal or not, an individual s
sense experience dies along with the destruction of the body and soul. Understanding Lucretius and
Epicurus views on death, we can conclude that they both support the notion of death being nothing
to fear. They acknowledge that there is no

Analysis Of Hannah Coulter
In his book Hannah Coulter, Wendell Berry explores how the trials and tribulations one
experiences shape them from the beginning of life until death. Janne Teller writes, Everything
begins only to end. The moment you were born you begin to die. That s how it is with everything
In detailing Hannah Coulter s life, Berry shows how the era she grew up in, the people surrounding
her, and various life events formed the qualities and characteristics of the woman she became.
Beery Starts his exploration of how a person is shaped by their life by starting at, of course the
beginning. The main character, Hannah Coulter is born in 1922 in a fictional place called
Hargrave, Kentucky. She is an only child. living on a small family farm with her ... Show more

And Grandmam,as I have seen in looking back, was the decider of my fate. She shaped my life,
without of course knowing what my life would be. She taught me many things that I was going to
need to know, without either of us knowing I would need to know them. She made the
connections that made my life, as you will see. If it hadn t been for her what would my life have
been? (11) An example of molding and shaping ones values lies in the theme of education
throughout the book. Education was important to Grandmam because she only went to the 8th
grade. So, wanting a better life for her granddaughter, she ensured Hannah not only graduated high
school but was valedictorian as well. Hannah, in turn, ensured that her children continued farther
by graduating college themselves. Transition from being a child to being an adult. The certain age
at which the transition takes place as does the nature of change. The choice to place Hannah
Coulter s story as growing up and coming of age in the 20s 40s allows the reader to consider for
themselves the contrast between that culture and one of today. After graduation Hannah was gently
pushed out of the nest and expected to be self sufficient, finding a job and a husband. This was
accepted and even expected by Hannah, unlike in today s era in which children often remain with
their families well into adulthood. While knowing that Hannah had the support,

History Of Independent Contractors And Employees
Introduction Independent contractors and employees are two significantly different types of
workers and this distinction is clearly important in the realm of business as it alters many policies.
As a result, the court is often tasked with the question of differentiating the two types of workers.
To help the judges with this question, the upper level courts have created multiple tests to help
determine an employee from an independent contractor ranging from the test developed in the
case of 1671122 Ontario Ltd. v. Sagaz Industries Canada Inc, Housen v. Nikolaisen, 2002 SCC 33
to Wolf v. The Queen, 2002 D.T.C. 6053. This is concerning to have these many tests as it creates
confusion, but in the case of Connor Homes v Canada, 2013 the court attempts to create a uniform
test. This paper will use the concept of F.I.L.A.R., fact, issue, law, application, ratio to examine the
Connor Homes case to show why this case s outcome substantially impacts business practices.
Facts Before describing the facts of the case, it is worth noting that all the facts have already went
through the court scrutiny as the facts are taken from the subscript of the Appeal court. What this
means is that the facts are deem to be legitimate as the lower level courts would have already
questioned the creditability of the facts, since the upper level courts do not concern itself with
questions of law.
Connor Homes is the appellant in this case and he is a license foster care operator. This means he

Descriptive Essay On Hunting
INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that
innocent animal give it s life to me. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted
forever. Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In
reality, it might be pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar,
changing a person forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow
clusters with it s head down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of
taking the life of an innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon
be changed forever.
BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and
fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night s dusting that blanketed the
landscape like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of
daylight. That means no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pull the trigger.
I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where
deer come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared
over many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet
below. It was a frightening height. Pull your gun up. I ll work my way back around to try and push

Rifleman Dodd Essays
RIFLEMAN DODD: A NOVEL OF THE PENINSULAR CAMPAIGN The story in the book
talks about an infantry warrior named Private Matthew Dodd and his journey to re unite with
his fellow soldiers. The British army was retreating to the lines of Torres Vedras and Dodd was
left behind since he separated from his comrades during the retreat in Portugal behind enemy
lines. He knew that he had to do one thing, and that was to kill all the Frenchmen. Private Dodd
ran through a lot of problems during his journey trying to find his way back to his men. With
some help here and there from the natives, but mostly his own, he raids the French with his rifle
to try and prevent them from building a bridge across the Tagus River. Rifleman Dodd is a story of a

Mind you, this was the little rations he had the night before he was left behind, he saved it just
in case they d run out. With him doing this, he gave himself the hopes to not only sustain the
little amount of food he had but also the strength and energy that he was going to need in case he
would end up in the heat of battle. After traveling many miles on foot, Dodd crept through
several fields during the day and night time so that he wouldn t run into any Frenchmen. He was
seen by Frenchmen, so the French started to fire at Dodd and still missed. Dodd fired back and
took out numerous amounts of men. As the day goes by, Dodd starts to feel like he could no
longer walk, his next challenge was that he had to go through during his separation was the
battle of fatigue. It was really starting to tear him away. Fatigue is a major factor to a person who
is in the heat of battle because a person can do so much to keep their strength and move forward
without stopping or giving up. It was hard for Rifleman Dodd because he had been starving for
days but he still found the durability to look beyond himself and continue to fight to return back to
his men. He had a plan of attack to help him sleep at night and continue on with his mission in the
morning by using tactics. For example, one night he slept with his pack on his back sitting straight

from the Existentialist lens, we find several examples throughout the film of when characters

identity, the meaning of life, the meaning of their life, or the purpose of their life overall? The
movie starts up with Ben Braddock sitting on a plane bound for Los Angeles, which pans outward

Gideon replies, countering what the stranger said, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why
then is all this befallen us? (Judges 6:13) The first Lord used in this sentence is aМ‚doМ‚n, it s
root meaning: (meaning to rule); sovereign, that is, controller (human or divine): lord, master,
owner (Strong s Concordance H113). Here we see Gideon addressing the stranger politely, but
he doesn t realize that he is talking to an angel of the Lord. Gideon also presents more doubts to
the stranger later on in verses 13, and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of,
saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and
delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. Gideon at this point may be wary, he doesn t know
this person , plus he was just interrupted, his hiding place for threshing wheat was found out.
Gideon s language contains questions and he also states his doubts, he mentions that he believes
the Lord has forsaken them. So far the characteristics Gideon portrays is fearfulness, and doubt. In
verse 16 of Judges 6, the Lord tells Gideon, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the
Midianites as one man. This obviously perks Gideon curiosity as we see in the next verses (17
18); he starts to realize with whom he may be conversing.

there gave the metropolis strong character. For ten months, I had been practicing law in the city

Following the breakup, my job became my sanctuary, a place where I did not think about life. I

firm to represent his little sister in an International criminal case. Mr. Ross was beyond wealthy
and had attorneys at his disposal, but our firm had more experience handling International cases.

Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
Mother Tongue is a story that describes how Amy Tan s mother was treated unfairly because of her
broken English . As the second generation of Chinese immigrants, Tan faces more problems than
her peers do. Her mom, who speaks limited English, needs Tan to be her translator in order to
communicate with the native English speakers. Tan has felt ashamed of her mother broken
language at first. She then contemplates her background affected her life and her study. However,
she changes her thought at the end since she realizes things behind language might be more

As a result, the audiences will probably pay more attention to the author s notion, and they are
more easily to be persuaded. Along with strong ethos appeals, Tan also effectively makes use of
logos. Tan has mentions her mom reads the Forbes report, listens to Wall Street Week, converses
daily with her stockbroker, reads all of Shirley MacLaine s books with ease all kinds of things I
can t begin to understand (Zapico, 30). It is reasonable to think someone who reads the Forbes
report is intelligent or at least knowledgeable. However, the truth is this reader of the Forbes
report is a broken English speaker. She continues Yet some of my friends tell me they understand
50 percent of what my mother says. Some say they understand 80 to 90 percent. Some say they
understand none of it, as if she were speaking pure Chinese (Zapico, 30). This use of statistics
gives her audiences an inside look into her world and provides evidence that she really knows what
she is trying to convince. The mother in the essay represents for the Asian American community as
first generation. Tan evokes an image in the American readers mind that first generation Asian
Americans are much more intelligent than what they can convey through words. For this reason,
they deserve to be treated the same as others. Although Tan doesn t focus on using much logos in
this essay, all her arguments are logical, and perhaps the audience are able to be

The research question that will be investigated is: To what extent does price promotion moderate
the relationship between culture and quality perception of private labels? 1.3 Theoretical
background
De Mooij and Hofstede (2002) define culture by eight dimensions. Asian cultures are associated
with higher levels of uncertainty avoidance (UA) (see Appendix 1) compared to individualistic
cultures, therefore these Asian cultures are more attracted to products with a lower risk (Moss
amp; Vinten, 2001; Samli, 1995; Shannon, 2005). Furthermore, there is a strong belief that Asian
consumers have a strong preference for NBs over PLs (Ahuvia amp; Wong, 1998; Brady et al.,
2003; De Mooij amp; Hofstede, 2002). According to Batra and Sinha (2000) consumers who relate
higher prices with higher quality are less attracted by PLs. According to De Mooij and Hofstede
(2002) PLs are more frequent in individualistic cultures such as the Netherlands, than collectivist
cultures such as in China. They presented two specific reasons for collectivist (Asian) nations to
choose NBs over PLs, namely that NBs lead to more status, and the preference for long term
relationships and so for well known NBs. Therefore, collectivistic cultures are more risk averse and
tend to value brand names. They also value the perceived link between price and quality, which
negatively affects the image of PLs in such countries. On the other hand, individualistic cultures are
supposed

  • 2. American Federation Of Teacher s President s Randi... The article started by mentioning that the common core have come under severe criticism by early childhood education experts. Those experts say that the common cores are not developmentally appropriate for students; and so as the American federation of teacher s president s Randi Weingarten, which also called for revamping of these early educationstandards. Weingarten called the early childhoodexpert Nancy Carlsson for the Defending the Early Years. Defending the Early Years, a non profit project of the Survival Education Fund, was created to help students, parents, and teacher understand why the common care states standards are not inappropriate for kid, third grade. The document also helped teachers and parents advocate against Common Core State Standards CCSS, and promote rules and in class practices that can best help meet children s needs. The six reason to reject common core state standards from k to 3rd are: one, many k to 3rd grade CCSS are not based on developmental knowledge of young children learning. The CCSS was made to develop what is required at high school to the early year, but it had led to many mismatches. The CCSS lists facts and knowledge that don t match how young children develop, think, or learn. Another mismatch is that the CCSS requires young children to learn facts that they are not ready for. It also led teachers teach didactic instruction instead of the experiential, play based activities, and learning young children need. The second reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Oil Industry In the oil industry, well testing is a very useful tool to be able to model and interpret what processes are going on underground in a reservoir system and what effect it would have if drilled into. From well testing, it is quite common to observe a pressure transient derivative signature showing an upward continuous trend. These types of curves are presented by a pressure derivative versus time log log scale plot in different software s with KAPPA being an example. This trend can be interpreted as showing the presence of nearby no flow boundaries. However, comparing this data with such seismic and geological evidence it is often concluded that these such boundaries appear too close to the well. Another possibility to explain this type of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The objectives of this study are to: 1.Simulate reservoir production of 100% water with no oil or gas production. 2.Observe reservoir production when water and oil is being produced at a constant rate. 3.Observe reservoir behaviour when heterogeneity is introduced and multiple reservoir parameters are altered to observe different well test pressure derivative response curves in KAPPA. The initial model was based on the fact the reservoir was a homogeneous, corner point, Cartesian model which had no oil and gas production initially but produced water at a constant rate of 10000 m3/day for a period of 31 days. This model then was then compared analytically with KAPPA to see if the data matched the data that was inputted. The next step was to add oil into the system to be able to give a more relevant model to real life scenarios otherwise the data used beforehand was meaningless and couldn t be representative of a real life scenario. To accomplish this and to simulate with the initial conditions, the rate was reduced due to the introduction of a bubble point pressure of 150 bar and an oil production rate along with a water production rate. Finally, the last objective of this simulation was to change the properties of the reservoir to make it become heterogeneous and then comparing the derivative response curve with those of the parameters such as: change ... • 5. How Does The 2008 Games Affect The Economy Economic Impact To see the impact of the 2008 Games on the Chinese economy, we must first look at how much money was spent and what it was spent on. While $40 billion is the average number given when saying how much the 2008 Games cost, only a little more than $6 billion went to sports related costs, (Gaines, 2015) including $500 million going to building the Bird s Nest, the Olympic track and field venue. The rest went to a new airport terminal, a light rail, roads and other preparations such as security and the environmental clean up ( The cost of the Beijing Olympics ). Almost every city that hosts the Olympics promises to use the new stadiums that are built well beyond when the Games end, but almost none actually do. Beijing is no different.... • 6. Study of Oxidation of Stainless Steel in Hot rolling... Study of Oxidation of Stainless Steel in Hot rolling Background Studies on the oxidation of stainless in hot rolling have obtained much attention during the last few decades where the finishing temperature ranges from 850 1100 В°C. Oxidation is the formation of oxide rich scale that slows down further oxidation when formed. In stainless steels at elevated temperatures (up to 1100В°C), this oxide scale is necessary as it is predominantly chromium rich and prevents further oxidation. On the other hand the metal lost in the formation of oxide will reduce the effective strength of the steel section [1]. According to the British Stainless Steel Association [2], it is obvious that the oxidation resistance depends mainly on temperature, gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These sources may include previous researches and experimental results in that field. The information gathered is to be referenced and clear. The experimental results must also be realistic and ends with reasonable results. Preliminary findings In recognition of this problem, the School of Mechanical, Material and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Wollongong has set a developed high temperature steel testing experiment, and already made recommendations which will be a starting point for future research about various factors affecting the oxidation process. This document represents the test conducted on steel in hot rolling particularly steel grade AISI 445. We describe our preliminary findings regarding the oxidation of stainless in hot rolling and make specific recommendations for procedures that will lead to an improved experience. Literature review Effect of steel grade composition on oxidation resistance (alloying element) The chromium content plays a big role in oxidation resistance or scaling. Most austenitic steels, with chromium contents of at least 18%, can be used at temperatures up to 870В°C and grades 309, 310 and 2111HTR even higher while martensitic and ferritic steels have lower resistance to oxidation and hence lower useful operating temperatures. Also, Nickel also helps improve oxidation resistance. This is probably due to improved oxide layer adhesion. Silicon and aluminium are also added to improve oxidation resistance in limited ... • 7. The Partition Of India By Bapsi Sidhwa Before the Partition of India, in 1947, India was considered a country with a reasonably peaceful history. However, during and after the Partition, sexual violence, both towards men and women, escalated, resulting in the rape and abduction of over 80,000 women. Cracking India, by Bapsi Sidhwa, tells a story that highlights these violent acts by both Muslims and Hindus, through the eyes of a disabled young Parsi girl named Lenny, who witnesses first hand the violenceof Partition when she mistakenly participates in the abduction of her ayah, Shanta. Throughout Cracking India, Lenny observes as the religions involved in Partition become increasingly violent towards both men and women, within their own religions and against others. Lenny, who begins the novel as a very naГЇve young Parsi girl, comes to understand that the foundations of violence in her surroundings are largely gendered and that the experience of this violence is differentiated along gender lines (Rastegar 27). Lenny witnesses the evolution of Ayah s suitors, (who are Parsi, Hinduand Muslim), from men interested in being with Ayah to men who are desperate to control Ayah. As Partition gets more violent, Ice Candy Man, one of Ayah s suitors who is Muslim, takes on the role of a minor nationalist leader in their area and eventually coordinates a mob of Muslims to come to the Sethi house an abduct Lenny, who is Hindu (Rastegar 27). • 10. How Music Has A Influence On Physical Aspect Of Sexual... Music has a huge influence on physical aspect of a sexual relationship, as well as the emotional part of relationships. Music speaks to the mind, body and soul and many singers take advantage of this influence to express their views on sex and relationships. Song lyrics often have implicit meanings and literary references. One song in particular called Stimulated, by the rapper Tyga; real name Michael Ray Nguyen Stevenson portrays the physical aspect of a sexual relationship. In his song Stimulated, Tyga sings about having sex with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner before she turns eighteen. The lyrics include They say she young, I should ve waited/She a big girl, dawg, when she stimulated. These lyrics imply a coarse, vulgar, sparsely disguised metaphor for having sex. The hidden message in these lyrics is that if the underage girl is stimulated, then it is okay to have intercourse with her. Furthermore, Tyga is violating the age of consentopenly while at the same time indirectly admitting statutory rape. These lyrics are clearly encouraging the sexual battery of statutory rape and blurring the age of consent for sex. The lyrics are hypothetically influencing the thoughts and behaviors in a way that it is lessening the importance of statutory rape. Encouraging the listener to take the age of consent and the offence of statutory rape lightly. • 12. The Divine Command Theory, And Natural Law Theory Philosophers base the idea of objective morality on the assumption that some moral ideals are universal and should be the moral responsibility of everyone. Subjective moralists counter this argument by explaining that each moral decision is independent because each moral situation is unique to its own conditions. Ultimately, these two views shape the nature of moral philosophy and theology, each describing the different natures of morality(Hammond). These two theories have a large impact on the thinking process of humans on an everyday basis. This process then leads up to a person valuing different things more than others. The separation of objective and subjective theories all boil down to whether or not a theory is universal or not. A subjective theory has an absence of universal truths, and an objective theory has universal truths. Two vary popular theories that will take part in my research were the Divine Command Theory, and Natural law theory. Two theories that may seem similar, but in fact are very different. Divine Command Theory is a type of ethical relativism that states that morality is dependent on God s will, and his will, and his way is holy, and will forever be no matter the situation. In other words as stated by Rachels, what God commands is what is morally right, and what God forbids is morally wrong (Rachels, 2001). Within this theory, it makes it known that morality cannot exist separately from God s will. Divine Command Theory can be closely related ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Two Theories Of Utilitarian And Retributive Punishment The concept of punishment exists in many different forms, each with conflicting views on how to best approach an offence committed by individuals. Two theories stand at the forefront of punishment being that of the Utilitarian, and Retributive theories. Each theory presents its own idea on how punishment ought to be carried out and the core reasoning behind it. The two theories are also debated within our own Canadian legal system which is referred to as: The Criminal Code of Canada, where it details the different principles and procedures when sentencing an individual who has committed a specific offence with guidelines for what sanction should be given. Such principles/procedures reflect various factors within the two theories, and have undergone different fluctuations for which theory has dominated throughout history, but have been influenced more by one theory than from the other. Generally speaking, punishmentis invoked upon offenders for the pursuit of the common good of mankind for a society that prospers, and not one that is hindered. Two primary theorists each lead one of the theories of punishment and what its purpose is; one who stands from a Utilitarian view is Jeremy Bentham, and the other being Immanuel Kant who focuses on a more Retributive theory of punishment. The two theories of Utilitarian and Retributive Punishment each have their own views on what the purpose of punishment is, and of how it is to be invoked in the case of a breach of rules by an offender. Jeremy Bentham makes his debut by focusing on the theory of Utilitarianism which is subdivided into two other theories; the Theory of the Good (also referred to as: Hedonism), where good is pleasure and evil is pain; and the Theory of the Right (also known as: Consequentialism), which outlines that the right action is that which produces the maximum good of all available actions. Bentham as a theorist, believes that the primary goal of laws is to prevent wrongful actions where he summarizes in his opening to Chapter XIII of An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation: The general object which all laws have, or ought to have, in common, is to augment the total happiness of the community; and therefore, in the first ... • 17. The Great Depression Of The United Kingdom After The... Introduction Throughout the world, the economy plays a role in each and every country. One event can cause a drastic change within the economy and effect the lives of millions of people. Some examples of these events include the Great Depression, the Industrial Revolution, the United Kingdom leaving the European Union (Brexit), and many more. The question is; how do people react during times when the economic status is fluctuating in the world? Therefore, this leads to my proposal: I suggest researchers conduct a study to see how people react to performance levels of the economy by turning to religion as their solution. Brief Literature Review People Seeking Religion During times when a country is economically growing, people are less likely to engage with religious affiliates or engage religious practices/traditions. Jochen Hirschile proposes that during economic growth, people do the opposite of what Max Webersays about building traits and values (Secularization Of Consciousness ). Economic Growth actually causes people to have a decline in traits and values, which ultimately concludes that there is a decrease in religious practices among people. To support Hirschile, Benjamin Friedman also discusses how economic growth can cause people to become consequently less moral (The Moral Consequences). On the other hand, people tend to become more religious during times of economic distress and uncertainty. Simon Metcalfe and Reginald Harris conducted a study on how the ... Throughout the passage, Falkner manipulates time in order to create tension and suspense. In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkneruses foreshadowing in order to create tension and suspense throughout the story. I predict that: В· By increasing the temperature of the Hydrogen Peroxide, the Catalase will react faster. This is because the particles have more energy so they will move and react at a faster rate. • 44. Analyzing Lucretius Symmetry Argument This paper will analyze Lucretius symmetry argument in De Rerum Natura, and draw evidence in its conclusion that supports the Epicurean notion, of the nature of nothingness in death. In Epicurus Letter to Menoeceus , he argues that death is nothing to us and thus should not be feared. Epicurus views on deathfollow from his metaphysical and ethical views. He believed that the goodness or badness of something was directly correlated to its tendency to produce pleasure or pain. Death was simply the privation of the sense experiences that we encounter every day. He also argues that death is not yet present when we are alive, and that we are not alive when death is present. Epicurus argues that the combination of these two arguments should deter us from fearing death. In Lucretius s symmetry argument, every individual in the universe is made up of a specific combination of body and soulatoms. He argues that the finite body and soul atoms of each individual have recombined an infinite number of times. He further claims that because our atoms are finite, we have all existed an infinite number of times but recall our past lives due to the separation of our body and soul. Regardless of whether the soul is immortal or not, an individual s sense experience dies along with the destruction of the body and soul. Understanding Lucretius and Epicurus views on death, we can conclude that they both support the notion of death being nothing to fear. They acknowledge that there is no ... As a result, the court is often tasked with the question of differentiating the two types of workers. As the second generation of Chinese immigrants, Tan faces more problems than her peers do. Her mom, who speaks limited English, needs Tan to be her translator in order to communicate with the native English speakers. Tan has felt ashamed of her mother broken language at first. She then contemplates her background affected her life and her study. However, she changes her thought at the end since she realizes things behind language might be more valuable than language itself sometimes. Through the various different literary devices and rhetorical strategies such as the ethos, pathos, and logos appeals, as well as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the audiences will probably pay more attention to the author s notion, and they are more easily to be persuaded. Along with strong ethos appeals, Tan also effectively makes use of logos. Tan has mentions her mom reads the Forbes report, listens to Wall Street Week, converses daily with her stockbroker, reads all of Shirley MacLaine s books with ease all kinds of things I can t begin to understand (Zapico, 30). It is reasonable to think someone who reads the Forbes report is intelligent or at least knowledgeable. However, the truth is this reader of the Forbes report is a broken English speaker. She continues Yet some of my friends tell me they understand 50 percent of what my mother says. Some say they understand 80 to 90 percent. Some say they understand none of it, as if she were speaking pure Chinese (Zapico, 30). This use of statistics gives her audiences an inside look into her world and provides evidence that she really knows what she is trying to convince. The mother in the essay represents for the Asian American community as first generation. Tan evokes an image in the American readers mind that first generation Asian Americans are much more intelligent than what they can convey through words. For this reason, they deserve to be treated the same as others. Although Tan doesn t focus on using much logos in this essay, all her arguments are logical, and perhaps the audience are able to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The research question that will be investigated is: To what extent does price promotion moderate the relationship between culture and quality perception of private labels? 1.3 Theoretical background De Mooij and Hofstede (2002) define culture by eight dimensions. Asian cultures are associated with higher levels of uncertainty avoidance (UA) (see Appendix 1) compared to individualistic cultures, therefore these Asian cultures are more attracted to products with a lower risk (Moss amp; Vinten, 2001; Samli, 1995; Shannon, 2005). Furthermore, there is a strong belief that Asian consumers have a strong preference for NBs over PLs (Ahuvia amp; Wong, 1998; Brady et al., 2003; De Mooij amp; Hofstede, 2002). According to Batra and Sinha (2000) consumers who relate higher prices with higher quality are less attracted by PLs. According to De Mooij and Hofstede (2002) PLs are more frequent in individualistic cultures such as the Netherlands, than collectivist cultures such as in China. They presented two specific reasons for collectivist (Asian) nations to choose NBs over PLs, namely that NBs lead to more status, and the preference for long term relationships and so for well known NBs. Therefore, collectivistic cultures are more risk averse and tend to value brand names. They also value the perceived link between price and quality, which negatively affects the image of PLs in such countries. On the other hand, individualistic cultures are supposed ...
