Escherichia Coli
Bacteria are minute prokaryotic organisms that are individually too small to be seen by the naked eye.
The majority of bacteria make crucial contributions to the benefit of the planet by maintaining a good
balance of living organisms and chemicals existent in the environment. However, a minority of
bacteria can be harmful to the human body, often being associated with death and disease and the
causative agents of food spoilage. A bacterium that has a variety of both good and bad is Escherichia
Coli, most commonly referred to as E. Coli. E. Coli is a rod shaped bacterium that is found in the
intestinal tracts of warm blooded organisms, more commonly that of cattle. Having been first
discovered in 1885 by a German bacteriologist named Theodor ... Show more content on

Current biological research investigations show that both lemon and lime juices have an affect on
slowing down and potentially stopping the growth of Escherichia Bacteria by creating an inhibition
zone. This can be seen in an experimental report done by Dr. Zahra Muhsin Ali Antagonism activity of
citrus fruit juices on some pathogenic bacteria. The experiment was conducted in the Biological
Department of Science at Kufa University to determine the antagonism activity of both Lemon and
Lime juices against various bacterium, one of them being E. Coli. The results of the experiment
revealed that each juice concentration had inhibiting effects against bacteria due to the presence of
citric acid and some volatile oils. The results also showed a reduction in the value of pH. The
investigation was further proved successful due to both juices from lemon and lime were found to
have inhibited the E. Coli bacterium parameter with an inhibition zone ranging from 8 29mm which
can be seen in figure 4. The antagonism effects of the lemon and lime juice was compared with the
antagonism effects of some antibiotics, the results being that the isolated E. Coli was resistant to the
majority of antibiotics. Proving that overall the experiment conducted was successful

True Grit Based on the Novel by Charles Portis Essay
The Journey
You must pay for everything in this world (Portis 40). In the screen play of True Grit based on the
novel by Charles Portis, the character of Mattie Ross goes on the hero s journey to avenge her father s
death when she hears that her father was murdered in Fort Smith. Her decision to purse the killer takes
her journey into Indian Territory. Throughout her hero s journeys she will have to go through three
stages, separation, initiation, and the return. Mattie will also have to complete the steps that are within
the stages.
In the beginning of the film, Mattie Ross starts her journey of separation when she leaves home to get
her father s body after he has been killed. The first stage of the journey is the call. This stage, ... Show

The separation from her old world is now complete. She is in the unknown where the next stage the
initiation begins.
Mattie is now in the initiation step of the journey, where she will go through four parts; the first part is
the challenges and the second is the abyss. Anywhere that Mattie went she faced challenges as how
the hero s journey s writes, Whichever direction the voyage takes... [she] puts [herself] more and more
at risk, emotionally and physically.... always seem to strike the initiate s greatest weakness: [her]
poorest skills... [Her] most vulnerable emotions (Harris and Thompson 51). A challenge that we see
Mattie puts herself at risk and show her weakness is when see faces Tom Chaney and says, I have
come to take you back to Fort Smith... [Chaney] Well I will not go ... If you refuse to go I will have to
shoot you... Then you had better cock your piece. Mattie gives a dismayed look at the gun and tries to
pull the hammer back... she struggles (Coens 82 83). As you can see Mattie put herself at risk facing
her father s killer and also showed that her weakness is her poor skill on how to handle a gun. Second
part is the abyss where, the initiate faces the greatest challenge of the journey.... Often final step...

A New System Of The State Of Texas
Galveston was the leading port in the state of Texas and had a population of about 37,000 people
during the 1900. Being a city on the gulf coast, getting hit by a hurricane was expected. Galveston has
been hit with many hurricanes before but one particular hurricane almost wiped out the whole city. On
September 8th, 1900, a potent hurricane producing wind up to 120 miles per hour and flooded the city
with about 15 feet of water made landfall. The aftermath of the hurricane was horrific, it broke the city
down to rubbles and a few thousands of people lost their lives. The city had a choice of either being
wiped off the map from the hurricane s damage or to start the rebuild process as soon as possible.
Galveston chose to unite as one and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the plan was outstanding, it didn t last long due to all of the cites evolving into a council
manager form of government. A couple of actions they took to resolve their problems long term was
building a sea wall and also raising the entire city. The commissioners assigned engineers to create a
plan to protect Galveston from storms in the future. The engineers presented a two part project: To
break the forces of the waves, they recommended building a concrete seawall three miles long from
the south jetty across the eastern edge of the city and down the beach. To protect the city from
flooding, they proposed raising the level of the entire city by picking up most of the structures in the
city and filling in beneath them with sand. Taking these actions have certainly help the people of
Galveston survive through hurricanes. Galveston was in a position of needing as much help as they
could receive. With the plan of constructing a new sea wall, raising the city s level, and also
reconstructing the buildings that were destroyed from the hurricane, it was going to cost huge amount
of money to make this happen. Galveston received financial help from the county, state and federal
governments, a large portion of the burden had to be carried by the city itself, at the expense of other
projects. Even other states, cities, and countries contributed to Galveston s rebuild by donating some
money to the fund. The state

Conventions In Ancient Egyptian Art
Conventions in art adopt to portray things in different ways and these conventions adopted by ancient
Egyptian artists. Around 3000 BCE, Egypt was a consolidated state. Egypt was previously divided
into two kingdoms, the Lower Egypt and The Upper Egypt. The powerful king of Upper kingdom
conquered the lower kingdom. In the Predynastic period, Egypt unifies and this period was from 5000
to 2950 BCE. After unification of Egypt under one ruler, it ruled by the series of family dynasties and
after that it characterized as Dynasties . The ancient Egypt art was based on religious practices and
beliefs. The Egyptian built temples and tombs to please their gods because their kings revered as gods

On the rise of New Kingdom, they start working on extensive buildings programs along the entire
length of the Nile. Hatshepsut is responsible for one of the most spectacular. Her imposing complex
was designed for funeral rites commemorative ceremonies and is much larger and more prominent
than the tomb itself, reversing the scale relationship in the Old Kingdom pyramid complexes. At that
time, the tomb Thebes was a most famous religious center throughout the New Kingdom. The temple
took the form of a house which was simple, flat roofed building and rectangular proceeded by a
courtyard and multiplied these elements. The gateway was massive Pylon with tapering walls and
courtyard was surrounded by columns and the temple itself was outer Hypostyle hall . The rooms of

The Learning Theories And Our Lives
The Learning Theories and Our Lives We start our lives and we immediately start to develop into the
person we become today. Obviously most of us would not start by learning calculus at two years old,
or care about what grades we are getting in first grade, but the process of learning starts right away.
This learning processes plays a significant role in developing us. There are three main learning
theories we look at. Observational, Classical Conditioning, and Operant Conditioning. Observational
learning occurs through observing the behaviors of others. This includes things like memorizing and
reproducing things that someone showed you or you saw done. Classical Conditioning is when things
happen multiple times and you learn a response to this. For example, the first time you spoke out in
class in elementary school, you were not conditioned yet not to. The response to this might be being
told to be quiet or a time out. You then are conditioned that if you talk, you will get in trouble. Then
you have Operant Conditioning, which is behaviors that are associated with a consequence. An
example to this is doing well in a swim competition becomes associated with an award. When you
start your life you start learning by observing what you parents do. When you are young learning is
done primarily from observing what goes on around you. At this point in your life you are not
developed enough to understand consequences; or a least not to an advanced level. You observe what

The rise of minimalist cooking is changing the art of food photography. The following is a look at
some of the techniques adopted by photographers to capture the simplicity and the spirit of this
modern cuisine. Whether it is because of the recession or a genuine desire to downsize and simplify,
minimalist cooking has become extremely popular. Everything from expensive and hard to acquire
ingredients to rarely used, specialized utensils and equipment have been pared back to the bare
minimum. Less is definitely more. Many photographers have noticed this change, either consciously
or intuitively and are evolving and adapting their techniques to suit. The old sumptuous saturated
glistening overfilled image just doesn t seem to be a good match for this new approach to cooking and
food in general.
The photographers who get this and have a feel for the subject have started to utilize a few specific
techniques which serve to emphasize the subject matter but in a much more understated way and this
article will lay out

A Comparison Of Cheyenne And Helen Keller In Girl Stolen
They use a cane to get around places, they wear dark shaded sunglasses to protect their eyes from the
sun. Often you may see that they use a dog to get around. Most may know this description as a blind
person. As proven above, they seem more dependent with assistants. However, not everyone remains
the same way. For example, both Cheyenne and Helen Keller were both helpless when being blind for
the first time. Although overtime Cheyenne becomes independent after being kidnapped, and Helen
Keller converts after attending school. When experiencing change, we often respond either negatively
or positively. In Girl Stolen , the main character, Cheyenne, could see just like any other kid.
Nonetheless, she was involved in a car accident, which caused her to lose her mom and her sight. In
like manner, once Cheyenne realized that she would never see again, she shut down (pg.92). Everyone
treated Cheyenne differently after becoming blind, causing her to give up on herself and anyone that
tried to help her. Even ones that were close to her like her dad. For example, everytime her dad

The Birth Of Moses Moses
Moses
Question 1
Exodus 2:1 10 The birth of Moses
Moses was born to two Levites. His mother hid him for three months as the pharaoh was killing all the
Hebrew s children. When she couldn t hid him she made a basket, put him in it, and floated it down
the river. The pharaoh s daughter found the baby and took pity on it. She nurtured the baby and took it
as her own.
Exodus 3:1 4:17 God speaks to Moses through the burning bush
Moses was herding is Father in law s flock and took it past the wilderness. A bush was set alight and
was not being consumed. Moses went to look at this bush and God called out to him. Moses took of
his sandals and hid his face from God as he was scared of him. God tells Moses he must go into Egypt
and free the Israelite slaves. God proceeds to tell Moses to tell the Israelites he was sent by The Lord,
the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Moses question the Lord on how he would prove that he was indeed sent by the Lord. God told Moses
to throw his staff on the ground, the staff turned into a snake. He then told Moses to pick up the snake
by the tail, the snake turned back into a staff. God then gave Moses two more ways to prove he really
was sent by God. One of them was to put his hand into his cloak and take it out again. Once he did this
his hand turn leprous and when he put it back into and out of his cloak it went back to normal. The
other proof was to pour a bucket of Nile river water into

Racial Diversity Awareness
The first time I was exposed to racial diversity awareness, I was seven years old. The earliest years of
my life were spent growing up in Philadelphia, a city well known for its diversity. All of that changed
though, when my family moved to a much smaller city, and lived in a much smaller town. For the first
time in my young life, I realized that there were places that lacked diversity, particularly racial
diversity. And with that lack of ethnic diversity, prejudice and negative stereotypes were an everyday
occurrence. It was quite different from the brotherly love mentality of Philadelphia. From third grade
and through middle school, I struggled to fit into an exclusive environment.
Through my experiences, I learned lessons that could not

A Different Perspective On Foreign Affairs
Tony Abbott, John Howard and Kevin Rudd each have a different perspective on foreign affairs, but
there is also a common thread to their approach. In the following paper I compare and contrast a
speech made by each of them concerning foreign affairs and note the large similarity of ideology
between each of them. All speeches support a strong relationship with the United States of America
and active engagement in international affairs. I argue that they differ only in the nuance of emphasis
although there is some evidence of traditional realist and liberal approaches to international politics.
Howard concentrates on pragmatic state to state engagement for the benefit of Australians. Abbott
focuses more on building up the military and physical security. Rudd is the only one of the three to
emphasise that Australia s foreign engagement should be for the benefit of others, as well as Australia.
Overall, however, the speeches demonstrate a greater commonality of purpose and direction than they
do divergent opinions. I argue the resulting stability of foreign policy engagement benefits not only
Australia, but the rest of the world.
The first speech of the three was given by John Howard. Howard begins his speech by describing the
wide ranging help Australia is providing to foreign countries through defence force medical aid, the
electoral commission advice and treasury counselling (Howard 2004: 2 3). Howard describes the help
Australia gives abroad as practical, broad and

Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory ( Cbt )
INTRODUCTION This paper sets out to describe a theory known as Rational Emotive Behavioral
Theory (REBT) which is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which I used with my client.
Readers will discover detailed information about this theory, including the basic beliefs of this theory,
the interventions of this theory that I utilized, and how changes occur in my client s life by using this
form of therapy. Readers will also discover how I monitored my client s progress throughout the
intervention stages. Along with this information, readers will also be informed of how I held myself
accountable as my client s social worker by having my work evaluated. The final information, that
readers will learn, is how I would terminate counseling services with this client according to REBT.
My client is presently serving time for illegal drug activity at Riker s Island. He has been incarcerated
for the majority of his lifetime for the same issues. The client does have issues with drug abuse,
however from an REBT orientation once the client s manner of thinking changes, the client s behavior
will change. My client has expressed issues concerning anxiety over being released because, as
explained by the client, he feels that things will never change, life for him is either, the grave, the jail,
or the hospital . This client is experiencing irrational thoughts and cognitive distortions, which are
resulting in dysfunctional behaviors, which are, in turn, resulting in

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Polymers
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Composite materials are the engineering materials made from two or more constituent materials they
remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level but forming a single component or Composites
can defined as materials that consist of two more chemically and physically different phases separated
by a distinct interface(matrix phase and dispersed phase). The different systems are combined
judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or functional properties non
attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is the primary phase having a continuous
character. Matrix is usually more ductile and less hard phase. It holds the dispersed phase and shares a
load with it. Dispersed (reinforcing) phase is embedded in the matrix in a discontinuous form. This
secondary phase is called the dispersed phase. Dispersed phase is usually stronger than the matrix,
therefore, it is sometimes called reinforcing phase.
Composites, the wonder materials are becoming an essential part of today s materials due to their
advantages such as low weight, corrosion resistance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, polymers are also known for their low thermal conductivity, relatively high flammability,
most often accompanied by the production of corrosive or toxic gases and smoke during combustion.
Consequently, improving the thermal properties and fire retardant behaviour of polymers is a major
challenge for extending their use to most applications. The most of the polymers have thermal
conductivity less than 0.5 W/m K. Improved thermal conductivity in polymers may be achieved either
by changing their molecular orientation or by the addition of conductive fillers. It has been found that
interfacial thermal conductance between fillers and polymer matrix is crucial to the thermal transport
in composites

City Of Ember Movie And Book Comparison
Most people who have read the book may wonder what happened after Doon and Lina got above

This changed the perspective of the character because it left out a lot of his personality. Another thing

in the movie it did not say in the book was that Lina and Doon got chased by a giant mole creature

The scene itself stands for a real life possibility beyond the movie. Norman Amaker of the NAACP
detailed the increasing tension between the African Americans and the government in the 1950s,
arguing how it was the law that primarily separated Blacks from their rights. He argued that it is not
the white population to blame, but rather the government, since the government is vindicating the
arguments by essentially making racism legal. The resulting trouble was that the predominantly white
government and the black protesters were not working together to achieve equality. The separations
were too large. Eventually though, in the years succeeding Amaker s published work, legal bounds
were in fact made. The government finally turned some of the racial equality appeals in to law. With
the government and white Americans more effectively working together, great progress was made in
terms of racial equality. Through the actions of the NAACP, and other protest groups like it, leaders on
each side (government and citizens seeking change) were able to communicate and work together. In
addition to the household names, leaders like Roy Wilkins and Tyson Moore were able to help
communicate the issue and bring change. This synergy is mimicked in the climax of Blazing Saddles.
Most Western films involve the big shot cowboy coming to the rescue, saving the day, and getting the
girl.

Analysis Of Heidi Montag s Influence On Cosmetic Surgeries
The sense of dissatisfaction and the inability to achieve perfection has caused some individuals to
become physiological obsessed with and dependent on cosmetic surgeries. At times obtaining
dangerous measurements to achieve the desired perfect physique. Heidi Montag a celebrity who
underwent ten cosmetic surgeries in a single day, as a means of achieving the perfect physique, is an
example on how cultural ideals pressures individuals to conform to the current beauty norms (Ugrina
2014, p.100). Another example is the Brazilian man called Romario Dos Santos, who injected oil and
alcohol into his biceps in order to look big like the other men at the gym. The procedure of injecting
synthetic filler was successful in enlarging the biceps, however it almost cost his life as he tried to kill
himself after developing depression and health problems (Awford 2015). This is an extreme example,
but it does demonstrate how men are also affected by the ideals of the perfect physique. Studies have
shown that body dissatisfaction of young men increases when they see images of attractive muscular
men (Blond 2008, p. 244). It can be also noted how men are also choosing to undergo cosmetic
surgeries to enhance their physical images as well as worrying about aging and optioning to undergo
surgery such as face lifts.
The constant awareness of ones look and the desire to fit into the ideals of perfect physique, not only
affects adults, but also children who from a young age are exposed to those

The United Nations Human Development
The Canada we know today is nothing like the Canada of the past, today it is ranked 8th on The
United Nations Human Development Index clearly showing it is an extraordinary place to live.
However, the nation we call home wasn t always this welcoming, democratic or peaceful; in fact
Canada has a very dark and violent past. Ever since the signing of the BNAAct in 1867, Canada has
taken enormous strides and steps to develop into the nation before us. The gradual, yet impactful
development of LGBT Rights within Canada is a perfect example of this. This particular community
of people had no rights whatsoever when Canada first became a nation, however after a great deal of
adversity and many years of struggle, this community has fought its way to become equals under the
eyes of the law. Undoubtedly, we can see this in the values of Canadians and the laws which represent
our morals. Today, Canada possess some of the most progressive and just LGBT Rights across the
globe, while discrimination and unfair treatment has not been completely abolished from Canada (as
we cannot change the values of individuals or religious groups), there is a genera feel of acceptance
throughout the country. Through all of this it is apparent that Canada is one of the leading nations in
this field, but in order for Canada to reach this stage, many battles, cases, and fights were won. When
Canada was first established as a country, it was governed by common law meaning it was focused on

Hamlet Act 2 Scene 2 Essay
Analysis of Hamlet Act 2 scene 2 The play Hamlet depicts the life of a prince who wants to avenge his
father s death. In his journey, he takes the lives of many, but manages to kill Claudius, the one who
killed his father. The soliloquy being analyzed is located at the end of Act 2 Scene 2. This extract takes
place after Hamlet is left alone in a room in the castle. A character in this soliloquy is Hamlet. In the
extract, he is releasing his fury as a player could get more emotional about his father s death than
Hamlet. He is reflecting at what he has done and what will he do to avenge his father. This extract
takes place in the rising action as Hamlet is reacting to his reaction towards his father s death. Hamlet
in this soliloquy is depicted as a vengeful and negative person. Hamlet is desperate to seek revenge for
his father, but he is unable to do it, as explained by dull and muddy mettled rascal, peak, Like John a
dreams . This tells us that Hamlet does not have much motivation in avenging his father as he still
does not know for sure who or what murdered him. In this soliloquy, he is impatient as he wants to
avenge his father as fast as possible. He is also grumpy as someone who does not feel Hamlet s
feelings can get more emotional than him in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them is simile, as evidenced by dull and muddy mettled rascal, peak Like John a dreams,

This gives us the idea that Hamlet wants to avenge his father but he is not sure if it is the right thing to
do. Another stylistic device used is euphony. Euphony is shown when hamlet says Remorseless,
treacherous, lecherous, kindless villain! The use of this stylistic device makes the line melodic.
Shakespeare used this device as he wanted to make the line more enjoyable and make the readers feel

Rheumatology Personal Statement
One of my earliest memories, is watching a small figure hobble across the stones with disfigured feet
and toes. This was my grandmother and as she dragged her body riddled with what I now believe to be
rheumatoid arthritis I always wonder how her life might have been changed with proper treatment.
Just when I thought Internal Medicine was my field, I was introduced to Rheumatology. It was during
my intern year when working in the Rheumatology Clinic. The core of my initial attraction was the
very proximity between Rheumatology and IM. Even as the mode of treatment hinged on working
with inherent uncertainty and innate complexity, you also needed to turn to IM fundamentals to
determine a diagnosis. Moreover, I found myself highly intrigued ... Show more content on

In that osteoporosis is a huge societal problem, causing a large number of fractures in the elderly
population and thus leading to a poor quality of life and worse, it was clear that education of
healthcare professionals was a must. Since the USPSTF guidelines state that all women over age 65
should get dexa scans to screen for osteoporosis and start on appropriate therapy to prevent these
fractures, it soon became clear that in our resident run outpatient clinics we were doing a very poor job
in this area. As such, with two colleagues, we designed an intervention protocol based on provider
education on osteoporosis for all residents, attendings, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Succinctly, the intervention increased the rate of dexa scan ordering by 34% and this trial is now in its
second phase.
There have been other equally important turning points to date. In my rotation at Georgetown, I
sought to explore the field of rheumatology at a tertiary level and in doing so, gained experience in
common autoimmune conditions and some rare ones as well all which served to solidify my interest in
the field. One of the most pleasant aspects of my duties at Georgetown was the opportunity to work
with children. In taking pediatric rheumatology consults, I realized that as a rheumatologist I may be
able to care for patients of all age groups, leading to an interesting and highly diversified

An Analysis of the Interactive Violence of the...
For the last sixty years, the Palestinians and Israelis have been involved in a nearly non stop game of

This paper will examine how public opinion has affected the intricacies of this game of tag and
attempt to prove that no matter who leads the Israeli government, the response to Palestinian
aggression has always been violence in one degree or another. There are only two major Israeli
political parties that have ever been able to garner enough votes in the Knesset to either have enough

right to exist and not to do anything that would lead to aggression or violence. (However, because of
domestic politics, both sides have continued to engage in violence.) In letters from Yitzhak Rabin and
Yasir Arafat, they recognize each other and their right to exist. Within the agreed minutes to the

Sondheim s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
In Sondheim s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the tradition of New Comedy is
faithfully brought to life in a musical set in ancient Rome, but relevant to the sensibilities of its 1960 s
audience. Through movie sets that suggest Roman surroundings, and comedic sequences that embody
the spirit of the sixties, Sondheim creates a story where Roman characters, acting according to their
types, draw in modern audience members and create a energetic romp through ancient Rome that is
firmly rooted in the past, but could only have been taken in sixties era America. Many aspects of the
film pay clear homage to New Comedy. The plot is simplistic, focusing on the desire of a young man
to get around the restrictions of his parents and gain the affections of the girl he loves. The characters,
although not boring, are one dimensional. Hero, the love sick youth, has one hope in the film: to unite
himself with Philia. Pseudolus, his slave, only wishes to earn his freedom. The life s work of Erronius
is to find his children, each bestowed with a ring bearing an engraved gaggle of geese; and so on
through the inhabitants of this depiction of Rome. Each character does whatever it takes to achieve
their one goal in life, and this is what builds the frenetic disposition of the plot, causing twists and
turns especially where the very determined instigator Pseudolus is concerned. There is no character
development, however, and every character finishes the film with same endeavor he

Banning Open Carry And Concealed Carry
When citizens have the freedom to legally defend themselves, but are restricted by unaccommodating
gun laws, what defense possibilities do they have? With population based restrictions on open carry
and concealed carry, residents of California cannot possess firearms unless the weapons are stored
inside of their homes or in the trunk of their cars. Although Californians can certainly defend
themselves at home, self defense becomes much more problematic when they leave their private
residence as they cannot possess firearms with rare exceptions. With that being said, how does the
state of California reasonably expect its citizens to defend themselves without the ability to possess
firearms in a public setting? State laws prohibiting open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the opponents of open carry are armed with rational concerns, they need not worry about it
in the state of California as open carry is prohibited there. California is also one of the most restrictive
states when it comes to gun control, yet according to the FBI s uniformed crime report, California led
the nation with 151,879 violent crimes (murder and non negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and
aggravated assault) in 2013. In the state with the highest amount of violent crime, self defense at home
and in public is a necessity, but that necessity is compromised by the prohibition of open carry. The
belief that criminals can easily remove a firearm from an individual exercising open carry is absurd
considering modern holsters are now designed with retention in mind. Logically, criminals would
avoid attacking someone who is exercising open carry due to the likelihood of being killed in an
altercation or being forced to kill the individual and face capital punishment. Although people
exercising open carry can cause panic from the community and police officers, the issue is generally
resolved without complications and programs to raise awareness on gun rights would improve
relations. Raising public awareness about open carry would benefit both open carry and the public due

With this features nascar is one of the safest sports. The cars also have safety features. If the car

Consumer Driven Health Plans
Running head: THE DOWNFALLS OF CONSUMER DRIVEN HEALTH PLANS
The Downfalls of Consumer Driven Health Plans
Jamiee Coates
Professor Rhonda Bunce
July 27, 2008
Abstract
Healthcare today is a very important issue. Lack of health insurance can affect the health and
productivity of workers. Many people today do not have health insurance. Employment based health
insurance is in high demand to retain employees. The high healthcare costs make it hard for employers
to offer employees quality health plans. The premiums for employers are increasing so they are forced
to opt for cost saving health insurance plans. Consumer driven health plans are on the rise and have
become an option for many employers.
The Downfalls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employer contributions to these accounts are excluded from employees taxable income and individual
contributions are tax deductible. (Contribution to HSAs) The amounts that are contributed by the
employers into the Health Savings Accounts for employees are treated as employer provided coverage
for medical expenses. My class reading discuss that most of the Health Savings Accounts have high
deductibles. The deductibles have to be met first so this leaves the employees with an out of pocket
cost for their medical services. Numerous employees with high deductible plans may postpone
medical care and end up with severe conditions that might have been prevented. Consumer driven
health care plans and Health Savings Accounts might turn out to be another cause for the rise of health
care cost instead of the resolution. There is no federal law that states that employers must offer
employees health insurance benefits. Competitive requirements have resulted in the offering of
employee based health insurance plans to employees. Since employer provided healthcare benefits are
the major source of health insurance for most people for most employees, it is recommended that
employers understand what types of health insurance plans their employees would like. Employers
should really listen to better understand employee s health care needs. They should offer a range of
health plans that would fit all of their employees. Employees would be able to

However, as a school librarian, I also need to create policies that do not restrict students right to access
information from a variety of perspectives. Safeguarding and promoting students right to access
information on diverse and controversial subjects is also another component of my future policy for
students use of the Internet. Accordingly, I will need to verify that the blocking software that the
school uses is not blocking information specifically due to its controversial nature such as LGBTQ
issues, or contentious political viewpoints. The American Library Association asserts (2012),
Anything that restricts access to information based on viewpoint or content violates the First

verifying that the filtering software and the acceptable use policy of my school are not infringing upon
the students right to access information from a variety of viewpoints.
The digital divide has a pervasive and negative effect on students from lower socioeconomic
backgrounds. Subsequently, the policies and practices that I implement in the school library should
help alleviate the deleterious effects caused by students lack of access to digital resources.
Furthermore, by simply extending the hours that the school library is open, I can provide students with
greater access to assorted digital resources as well as Internet access. Equitable

Definition Of Philosophy Of Education Essay
Philosophy of Education Today s classrooms are becoming more diverse, with growing linguistic and
cultural diversity in today s classrooms, as well as different social expectations for education, the
teacher preparation process is becoming increasingly demanding and challenging (Cooper and He, p.
89). In addition, these teacher candidates and teachers themselves need to provide expertise beyond
their training, to provide support in areas beyond content expertise and pedagogical knowledge
(Cooper and He, p. 89). With this information, I plan on focusing on my students needs and hopefully
bring effective learning strategies to my classroom. What are the roles of a teacher? A teacher must be
a facilitator, have content expertise, and develop moral obligation in the classroom. To be an authority
or facilitator, one needs to be able to handle behavior and disciplinary issues as well as be able to
handle allowing student learning, and to guide students development. To have content expertise, one
needs to have content knowledge in the subject being taught and to be able to share this knowledge
with the students. To teach or allow moral obligation, one needs to teach students beyond their content
knowledge subject and to allow them to grow into being a successful member of society (Cooper and
He, p. 97). I will carry out these roles of a teacher by being in charge of the classroom. I will directly
take care of any behavior and disciplinary issues by confronting this

mainly athletic shoes have changed drastically throughout the years. From weight, size, look, and
comfort ability, Nike has been the leading footwear company to develop and lead such a growing
industry. Peter Hitchcock, the author of Oscillate Wildly, wrote,
The shoe is magical, within both the history of the commodity and the psychological compulsions of
modern man. The shoe is the emblem of fetishism that links the commodity to desire. And the most
magical shoe of all is the athletic shoe because it is simultaneously a ... Show more content on

By the end of 1980 Nike completed its IPO and became a publicly traded company. During the mid
1980s, Nike lost its position as the industry leader, mainly in part because the company had badly
miscalculated on the aerobics boom (About NIKE Inc.). In 1985 the debut of a new signature shoe for
an NBA rookie, Michael Jordan, helped rocket Nike s sales and publicity. In 1988 Nike created the tag
line Just do it. Nike regained its position as the industry leader in 1989, making them the first and only
company in the athletic footwear/apparel industry to ever accomplish this feat (About NIKE Inc.). In
1990 Nike declared Portland, Oregon as its headquarters. Portland became home to the first retail as
theatre experience called Niketown. 1994 brought the signing of several individual players from the
future World Cup winning Brazilian National Team. The following year Nike signed the entire team
and began to design the team s uniform. Along with signing the Brazilian team, Nike also signed the
men s and women s US soccer teams, as well as other teams around the world. In 1996 Nike Golf
signed an upcoming young golfer by the name of Eldrick Tiger Woods. At first competitors criticized
and laughed at Nike for signing such a young player, that all changed in 1997 when Tiger won the
Masters by a record of twelve strokes. Nike also began investing in cyclists in the 1990s. Lance
Armstrong was one of the cyclists who signed with Nike. After he was

Sentencing For Drug Offenders Should Be Lenient
Sentencing for drug offenders can be somewhat lenient or harsh depending upon what drug was
involved in the arrest and who the violator is; meaning if the violator is an adult or a juvenile. In
Crime state rankings 2010: Crime across America, the percent of the population who are illicit drugs
users for Virginia was 8.2%, ranking twenty fourth on that list and the national percent was 8.1% of
the population in 2007 (Morgan, K. O. L., Morgan, S., Santos, R. B. 2010). In Crime state rankings
2011: Crime across America, the percent of the population who are illicit drug users for Virginia was
7.3%, ranking thirty two on that list and the national percent was 8.0% of the population in 2008

Sentencing Commission, which specify that between 1998 and 2002 over 300 defendants were
sentenced annually under the guideline that boosted penalties for drug activity. Tools are very limited
when it comes to protecting certain locations and individuals from drug activities, there are also no
specific weapons against those who sell drugs in or around drug treatment centers. To Avergun, the
people that would sink that low as to target their trafficking activity at those with the least ability to
resist such offers, those are the people who deserve the most severe punishment. The Department of
Justice cannot and will not tolerate this conduct in America, and that is why they stands firmly behind
the intent of this legislation to increase the punishment meted out to drug offenders. The Department
of Justice supports mandatory minimum sentences in appropriate circumstances, of course. Mandatory
minimum sentencing statues can provide a level of uniformity and predictability that regular
sentencing procedures cannot. Mandatory minimum sentencing discourages certain types of criminal
behavior by broadcasting the potential consequences of committing those offenses. They can also keep
dangerous offenders in prison for long periods of time, thereby increasing the public s safety. They
also provide an important tool for prosecutors by providing defendants with a convincing incentive,
that by cooperating with

Wharton s Allusions In The Age Of Innocence
2012530058
Zhou, Xuanchen
American Lit
Ms. Davis
27th Dec, 2015
Diana with Preserving Fluid in Veins and Savage Bride in an Opera Box:
Wharton s Allusions in The Age of Innocence to Primitive and Pagan Myths and Beliefs When reading
the comment of Archer made on Mrs. Welland s simulation of reluctance at the time she hears about
the engagement of her daughter and Archer, comparing her action to the Primitive culture in which
savage bride is dragged with shrieks from her parents tent (Wharton, 22). , most of the students of
American Lit must be reminded of the allusion to the anthropology works as The Golden Bough made
by Wharton s contemporary authors such as T.S.Eliot, who happened to have tortured us in a previous
week. After going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her connection with wild nature (both the real, uncultivated nature and the man s sphere in society
without protection), which is a major and substantial characteristic of Diana that shows her mystical
power, is shown in the story by the impressions she left on Archer. He thought that at a unpruned
garden, the tumbledown house, and the oak grove under which the dusk was gathering seems to be so
exactly the place in which he ought to have found Madame Olenska (103). When he founds her alone
in the publicity, he asked her But what on earth are you doing in this wilderness (105)? Archer s
mentioning of the oak grove is another specific clue that leads to the identity of Diana, as she is
actually queen of the woods in general and also goddess of the oaks in particular (Frazer, II, 380).
Ellen s first name as the shortened version of Helen might also be an allusion to Diana, who is also
known as Helen of the Tree (Frazer, V, 292). Besides, working in concert with May s marriage with
Archer around Easter, the mutual confession of Countess Olenska and Archer takes place in middle of
August, when Diana s own day is celebrated (Frazer, I, 12 14) (Scheick, 3). Moreover, the term flower
of life with a little bit of ambiguity and inexplicability kind of resembles the term heart of life she used
in her previous work, which refers to Diana and thus readers could suggest that the

It is important and essential to treat different people as individuals and to try and meet their needs
rather than stereotyping people. E.g. all old people are the same. Treating everyone the same is failing
to respect diversity. We all want to be treated with dignity and it is a very important part of an
individual s life. Working in the health and social care profession it is important to help people
maintain their dignity so they can keep their sense of self respect and self worth. All health and social
care professionals should be sensitive and aware of the needs of people and service users. Just because
a person has dementia, they still need to be given a choice and not assume that they cannot make a
choice. Not everybody is the same, there are different levels of dementia, so getting to know the
service user is vital to challenge discrimination. We also need to make sure that the service user or
their families are aware of the complaints procedure. Having policies and procedures are put in place
and that staff are up to date on their training. [Outcome 2] Understand that each individual s
experience of dementia is unique 2.1 explain why it is important to identify an individual s specific

Use Of Diesohol As A Substitute For Diesel
In our world today diesel engines have become a substantial part of the society, being used in buses,
trucks, locomotives, tractors, and so on. Scientist has been seeking ways of improving the efficiency
of diesel engines by developing and testing alternative fuels. Recent studies explore the use of
diesohol as a substitute to diesel. Diesohol are classified as a mixture of diesel fuel and anhydrous
alcohol blended using a chemical emulsifier, (Environmental Protection Agency, 2003).However a
major concern regarding diesohol is both alcohols and diesel have dissimilar physical and chemical
properties. Alcohols due to it being an oxygenate proved to burn cleanly and easily, and produce
decreased amount of soot and harmful emissions (Mithun Mohan,2015) .It is estimated its combustion
is around 3000 kJ/kg (The Engineering ToolBox, Unknown),(Mitun Mohan,2015).The chemical
equation for the combustion of alcohols :
CnH2n (l) 1OH (g) + (1.5n) O2 (g) → (n+1) H2O (l) + nCO2 (g) (Mithun Mohan, 2015)
There were a few disadvantage observed with the use of only alcohols. One being, it became
increasingly more difficult to burn alcohols as the molecules got bigger as more intermolecular force
is needed to break the bonds. Another issue is the trouble and expense of modifying the engines for
dual fuel capacity (Mithun Mohan,2015),(S.W. Mathewson.1980). In order to comply with the already
existing diesel engines scientist resolved the issue with a blend of alcohol and diesel so only

Essay on Foucault Panopticism
Panopticism by Michel Focault
Works Cited Not Included
Our society is not one of spectacle, but of surveillance; under the surface of images, one invests bodies
in depth; behind the great abstraction of exchange, there continues the meticulous concrete training of
useful forces; the circuits of communication are the supports of an accumulation and a centralization
of knowledge; the play of signs defines the anchorages of power; it is not that the beautiful totality of
the individual is amputated, repressed, altered by our social order, it is rather that the individual is
carefully fabricated in it, according to a whole technique of forces and bodies. (pp.333 34)

The persons with the plague (lepers were included in this group) were always observed to account for
their presence. These people were supposed to be present at their windows for attendance. Where they
not present at the time, they were marked as dead. Their family would be removed, the house would
be cleaned out, perfumed, and then, a mere four hours later, people would move back in. Obviously,
the fear of not being observed would be strong in this situation, a direct result of the drastic measures
taken once someone s presence could not be observed. Though this fear has the opposite motivation of
the healthy citizens, who, knowing they are being watched, are afraid to do wrong, it works on the
same basic principle. That if one knows they are being watched, it remains a constant consideration in
their mind, regardless of the presence of an observer, the fear will always be present.
The Panopticon, a prison described by Foucault, is a machine for dissociating the see/being seen dyad:
in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing (321, Foucault). This literally means that
in the formation of the panopticon those who are being seen can not see one another and the one who
sees everything can never be seen. That is the most important tool of the panopticon. Foucault makes
this assumption about today s society by saying that we are always being watched whether we know it
or not. One always keeps an eye over their shoulder as a

Philip Zimbardo Heroism Essay
What is a Hero? In the climax of a movie, the main character s best friend pushes the villain out of
harm s way and tragically perishes in their place. This cliche sacrifice is often what people think of
when picturing heroism. However, most modern heroes are not movie stars, instead they are ordinary
people, as stated by Philip Zimbardo in a speech on heroism. In the same speech he identifies
characteristics of and defines heroes. A modern hero performs heroic acts knowing of the sacrifice and
as a service to those in need. Heroes are people who sacrifice for others in need. Zimbardo uses this
trait as one of the defining characteristics of heroism, explaining a heroic act is one performed with
recognition of possible risks and costs,

The Performance Measurement Of The Balanced Scorecard
Balanced Scorecard
A performance measurement tool
The balanced scorecard (BSC) is an extensively used performance measurement tool introduced to
take the strategy and vision of the business into real action from four perspectives: financial,
customers, internally progress and learning and grow. (Kaplan and Norton, 1996) From all these four
perspectives, it can be seen that this measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates
on both financial and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool
provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these years, BSC has
developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic management system. ( Kaplan and
Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance
measurement from its origins, why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get
benefits from adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has.
In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible assets in the
structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide service more than products and
shareholders and customers pay more attention to the intangible assets rather than tangible assets.
However, the actual value of intangible assets is difficult to calculate and present in the real business.
In this situation, the balanced scorecard is

  • 2. Escherichia Coli Bacteria are minute prokaryotic organisms that are individually too small to be seen by the naked eye. The majority of bacteria make crucial contributions to the benefit of the planet by maintaining a good balance of living organisms and chemicals existent in the environment. However, a minority of bacteria can be harmful to the human body, often being associated with death and disease and the causative agents of food spoilage. A bacterium that has a variety of both good and bad is Escherichia Coli, most commonly referred to as E. Coli. E. Coli is a rod shaped bacterium that is found in the intestinal tracts of warm blooded organisms, more commonly that of cattle. Current biological research investigations show that both lemon and lime juices have an affect on slowing down and potentially stopping the growth of Escherichia Bacteria by creating an inhibition zone. This can be seen in an experimental report done by Dr. Zahra Muhsin Ali Antagonism activity of citrus fruit juices on some pathogenic bacteria. The experiment was conducted in the Biological Department of Science at Kufa University to determine the antagonism activity of both Lemon and Lime juices against various bacterium, one of them being E. Coli. The results of the experiment revealed that each juice concentration had inhibiting effects against bacteria due to the presence of citric acid and some volatile oils. The results also showed a reduction in the value of pH. The investigation was further proved successful due to both juices from lemon and lime were found to have inhibited the E. Coli bacterium parameter with an inhibition zone ranging from 8 29mm which can be seen in figure 4. The antagonism effects of the lemon and lime juice was compared with the antagonism effects of some antibiotics, the results being that the isolated E. Coli was resistant to the majority of antibiotics. Proving that overall the experiment conducted was successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A couple of actions they took to resolve their problems long term was building a sea wall and also raising the entire city. The commissioners assigned engineers to create a plan to protect Galveston from storms in the future. The engineers presented a two part project: To break the forces of the waves, they recommended building a concrete seawall three miles long from the south jetty across the eastern edge of the city and down the beach. To protect the city from flooding, they proposed raising the level of the entire city by picking up most of the structures in the city and filling in beneath them with sand. Taking these actions have certainly help the people of Galveston survive through hurricanes. Galveston was in a position of needing as much help as they could receive. With the plan of constructing a new sea wall, raising the city s level, and also reconstructing the buildings that were destroyed from the hurricane, it was going to cost huge amount of money to make this happen. Galveston received financial help from the county, state and federal governments, a large portion of the burden had to be carried by the city itself, at the expense of other projects. • 6. The Learning Theories And Our Lives The Learning Theories and Our Lives We start our lives and we immediately start to develop into the person we become today. Obviously most of us would not start by learning calculus at two years old, or care about what grades we are getting in first grade, but the process of learning starts right away. This learning processes plays a significant role in developing us. There are three main learning theories we look at. Observational, Classical Conditioning, and Operant Conditioning. Observational learning occurs through observing the behaviors of others. This includes things like memorizing and reproducing things that someone showed you or you saw done. Classical Conditioning is when things happen multiple times and you learn a response to this. For example, the first time you spoke out in class in elementary school, you were not conditioned yet not to. The response to this might be being told to be quiet or a time out. You then are conditioned that if you talk, you will get in trouble. Then you have Operant Conditioning, which is behaviors that are associated with a consequence. An example to this is doing well in a swim competition becomes associated with an award. When you start your life you start learning by observing what you parents do. When you are young learning is done primarily from observing what goes on around you. At this point in your life you are not developed enough to understand consequences; or a least not to an advanced level. You observe what your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The following is a look at some of the techniques adopted by photographers to capture the simplicity and the spirit of this modern cuisine. Whether it is because of the recession or a genuine desire to downsize and simplify, minimalist cooking has become extremely popular. Everything from expensive and hard to acquire ingredients to rarely used, specialized utensils and equipment have been pared back to the bare minimum. Less is definitely more. Many photographers have noticed this change, either consciously or intuitively and are evolving and adapting their techniques to suit. The old sumptuous saturated glistening overfilled image just doesn t seem to be a good match for this new approach to cooking and food in general. The photographers who get this and have a feel for the subject have started to utilize a few specific techniques which serve to emphasize the subject matter but in a much more understated way and this article will lay out ... His mother hid him for three months as the pharaoh was killing all the Hebrew s children. When she couldn t hid him she made a basket, put him in it, and floated it down the river. The pharaoh s daughter found the baby and took pity on it. She nurtured the baby and took it as her own. Exodus 3:1 4:17 God speaks to Moses through the burning bush Moses was herding is Father in law s flock and took it past the wilderness. A bush was set alight and was not being consumed. Moses went to look at this bush and God called out to him. Moses took of his sandals and hid his face from God as he was scared of him. God tells Moses he must go into Egypt and free the Israelite slaves. God proceeds to tell Moses to tell the Israelites he was sent by The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Moses question the Lord on how he would prove that he was indeed sent by the Lord. God told Moses to throw his staff on the ground, the staff turned into a snake. He then told Moses to pick up the snake by the tail, the snake turned back into a staff. God then gave Moses two more ways to prove he really was sent by God. The earliest years of my life were spent growing up in Philadelphia, a city well known for its diversity. All of that changed though, when my family moved to a much smaller city, and lived in a much smaller town. For the first time in my young life, I realized that there were places that lacked diversity, particularly racial diversity. And with that lack of ethnic diversity, prejudice and negative stereotypes were an everyday occurrence. It was quite different from the brotherly love mentality of Philadelphia. • 14. A Different Perspective On Foreign Affairs Tony Abbott, John Howard and Kevin Rudd each have a different perspective on foreign affairs, but there is also a common thread to their approach. In the following paper I compare and contrast a speech made by each of them concerning foreign affairs and note the large similarity of ideology between each of them. All speeches support a strong relationship with the United States of America and active engagement in international affairs. I argue that they differ only in the nuance of emphasis although there is some evidence of traditional realist and liberal approaches to international politics. Howard concentrates on pragmatic state to state engagement for the benefit of Australians. Abbott focuses more on building up the military and physical security. Rudd is the only one of the three to emphasise that Australia s foreign engagement should be for the benefit of others, as well as Australia. Overall, however, the speeches demonstrate a greater commonality of purpose and direction than they do divergent opinions. I argue the resulting stability of foreign policy engagement benefits not only Australia, but the rest of the world. The first speech of the three was given by John Howard. Howard begins his speech by describing the wide ranging help Australia is providing to foreign countries through defence force medical aid, the electoral commission advice and treasury counselling (Howard 2004: 2 3). Howard describes the help Australia gives abroad as practical, broad and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory ( Cbt ) INTRODUCTION This paper sets out to describe a theory known as Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory (REBT) which is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which I used with my client. Readers will discover detailed information about this theory, including the basic beliefs of this theory, the interventions of this theory that I utilized, and how changes occur in my client s life by using this form of therapy. Readers will also discover how I monitored my client s progress throughout the intervention stages. Along with this information, readers will also be informed of how I held myself accountable as my client s social worker by having my work evaluated. The final information, that readers will learn, is how I would terminate counseling services with this client according to REBT. My client is presently serving time for illegal drug activity at Riker s Island. He has been incarcerated for the majority of his lifetime for the same issues. The client does have issues with drug abuse, however from an REBT orientation once the client s manner of thinking changes, the client s behavior will change. My client has expressed issues concerning anxiety over being released because, as explained by the client, he feels that things will never change, life for him is either, the grave, the jail, or the hospital . The different systems are combined judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or functional properties non attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is the primary phase having a continuous character. Matrix is usually more ductile and less hard phase. It holds the dispersed phase and shares a load with it. Dispersed (reinforcing) phase is embedded in the matrix in a discontinuous form. This secondary phase is called the dispersed phase. Dispersed phase is usually stronger than the matrix, therefore, it is sometimes called reinforcing phase. Composites, the wonder materials are becoming an essential part of today s materials due to their advantages such as low weight, corrosion resistance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, polymers are also known for their low thermal conductivity, relatively high flammability, most often accompanied by the production of corrosive or toxic gases and smoke during combustion. Consequently, improving the thermal properties and fire retardant behaviour of polymers is a major challenge for extending their use to most applications. The most of the polymers have thermal conductivity less than 0.5 W/m K. Improved thermal conductivity in polymers may be achieved either by changing their molecular orientation or by the addition of conductive fillers. It has been found that interfacial thermal conductance between fillers and polymer matrix is crucial to the thermal transport in composites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The answers to those two questions are the same Bart is African American. Bart, the leading protagonist in Mel Brooks 1974 film Blazing Saddles, is an unlikely hero in the Wild West. The scene itself stands for a real life possibility beyond the movie. Norman Amaker of the NAACP detailed the increasing tension between the African Americans and the government in the 1950s, arguing how it was the law that primarily separated Blacks from their rights. He argued that it is not the white population to blame, but rather the government, since the government is vindicating the arguments by essentially making racism legal. The resulting trouble was that the predominantly white government and the black protesters were not working together to achieve equality. The separations were too large. Eventually though, in the years succeeding Amaker s published work, legal bounds were in fact made. The government finally turned some of the racial equality appeals in to law. With the government and white Americans more effectively working together, great progress was made in terms of racial equality. Through the actions of the NAACP, and other protest groups like it, leaders on each side (government and citizens seeking change) were able to communicate and work together. In addition to the household names, leaders like Roy Wilkins and Tyson Moore were able to help communicate the issue and bring change. This synergy is mimicked in the climax of Blazing Saddles. Heidi Montag a celebrity who underwent ten cosmetic surgeries in a single day, as a means of achieving the perfect physique, is an example on how cultural ideals pressures individuals to conform to the current beauty norms (Ugrina 2014, p.100). However, the nation we call home wasn t always this welcoming, democratic or peaceful; in fact Canada has a very dark and violent past. Ever since the signing of the BNAAct in 1867, Canada has taken enormous strides and steps to develop into the nation before us. The gradual, yet impactful development of LGBT Rights within Canada is a perfect example of this. This particular community of people had no rights whatsoever when Canada first became a nation, however after a great deal of adversity and many years of struggle, this community has fought its way to become equals under the eyes of the law. Sondheim s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum In Sondheim s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the tradition of New Comedy is faithfully brought to life in a musical set in ancient Rome, but relevant to the sensibilities of its 1960 s audience. Through movie sets that suggest Roman surroundings, and comedic sequences that embody the spirit of the sixties, Sondheim creates a story where Roman characters, acting according to their types, draw in modern audience members and create a energetic romp through ancient Rome that is firmly rooted in the past, but could only have been taken in sixties era America. Many aspects of the film pay clear homage to New Comedy. The plot is simplistic, focusing on the desire of a young man to get around the restrictions of his parents and gain the affections of the girl he loves. The characters, although not boring, are one dimensional. Hero, the love sick youth, has one hope in the film: to unite himself with Philia. Pseudolus, his slave, only wishes to earn his freedom. The life s work of Erronius is to find his children, each bestowed with a ring bearing an engraved gaggle of geese; and so on through the inhabitants of this depiction of Rome. Each character does whatever it takes to achieve their one goal in life, and this is what builds the frenetic disposition of the plot, causing twists and turns especially where the very determined instigator Pseudolus is concerned. Essay on Gloria Naylor s The Women of Brewster Place (Introduction): Throughout her novel, The Women of Brewster Place, Ms. Naylor emphasizes the importance of sister hood by showing how the women are strengthened by their relationships with one another and proving that men are not necessary to their survival or happiness. Thesis: The strengthening of women through other women is illustrated by Mattie s role as a daughter to Miss Eva, a sister to Etta Mae, and a mother to Lucielia. PARA 2: Miss Eva Turner plays a vital role in Mattie s life by taking her in during her loneliness and destitution and treating Mattie and Basil as if they are her own family. Lucielia was literally dying of grief and rage. It is Mattie s intervention and her ability to place Lucielia s grief in a historical context and to know it as one more instance of murdered dreams in a long history of such murders that undergirds her life saving and healing intervention (Aull, 2) Mattie healed and renewed Lucielia physically and mentally. Mattie magnificently wrestles Ciel, dying of grief, back to life (Gottlieb p.1484). Mattie took on the role of a mother when she nursed Lucielia back to health. Mattie treated and nursed Lucielia as if handling a newborn (Naylor, 104). Mattie s relationship with Basil teaches her valuable lessons that help her to be a more effective mother figure to Lucielia. Mattie s mistake with Basil is she used him to fill a void. She loved the fact that he was solely dependent on her. My Bed hasn t been empty since Basil was born (38). Mattie spoiled Basil to the point he would always have to have his way. He knew his mother would always be there for him. Because of that, he took advantage of her. It was hard for Mattie to watch the turmoil and sadness Lucielia had to encounter in her love life. It was like watching her child suffer. However, Mattie wasn t going to make the same mistake she made with Basil. Mattie let Lucielia take control of her own life. She never told her what to do. Consumer Driven Health Plans Running head: THE DOWNFALLS OF CONSUMER DRIVEN HEALTH PLANS The Downfalls of Consumer Driven Health Plans Jamiee Coates Professor Rhonda Bunce July 27, 2008 Abstract Healthcare today is a very important issue. Lack of health insurance can affect the health and productivity of workers. Many people today do not have health insurance. Employment based health insurance is in high demand to retain employees. The high healthcare costs make it hard for employers to offer employees quality health plans. The premiums for employers are increasing so they are forced to opt for cost saving health insurance plans. Consumer driven health plans are on the rise and have become an option for many employers. The Downfalls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employer contributions to these accounts are excluded from employees taxable income and individual contributions are tax deductible. (Contribution to HSAs) The amounts that are contributed by the employers into the Health Savings Accounts for employees are treated as employer provided coverage for medical expenses. My class reading discuss that most of the Health Savings Accounts have high deductibles. The deductibles have to be met first so this leaves the employees with an out of pocket cost for their medical services. Numerous employees with high deductible plans may postpone medical care and end up with severe conditions that might have been prevented. Consumer driven health care plans and Health Savings Accounts might turn out to be another cause for the rise of health care cost instead of the resolution. There is no federal law that states that employers must offer employees health insurance benefits. Competitive requirements have resulted in the offering of employee based health insurance plans to employees. Since employer provided healthcare benefits are the major source of health insurance for most people for most employees, it is recommended that employers understand what types of health insurance plans their employees would like. Employers should really listen to better understand employee s health care needs. They should offer a range of health plans that would fit all of their employees. Employees would be able to ... The American Library Association asserts (2012), Anything that restricts access to information based on viewpoint or content violates the First Amendment (p. 23). • 41. Definition Of Philosophy Of Education Essay Philosophy of Education Today s classrooms are becoming more diverse, with growing linguistic and cultural diversity in today s classrooms, as well as different social expectations for education, the teacher preparation process is becoming increasingly demanding and challenging (Cooper and He, p. 89). In addition, these teacher candidates and teachers themselves need to provide expertise beyond their training, to provide support in areas beyond content expertise and pedagogical knowledge (Cooper and He, p. 89). With this information, I plan on focusing on my students needs and hopefully bring effective learning strategies to my classroom. What are the roles of a teacher? A teacher must be a facilitator, have content expertise, and develop moral obligation in the classroom. To be an authority or facilitator, one needs to be able to handle behavior and disciplinary issues as well as be able to handle allowing student learning, and to guide students development. To have content expertise, one needs to have content knowledge in the subject being taught and to be able to share this knowledge with the students. To teach or allow moral obligation, one needs to teach students beyond their content knowledge subject and to allow them to grow into being a successful member of society (Cooper and He, p. 97). I will carry out these roles of a teacher by being in charge of the classroom. I will directly take care of any behavior and disciplinary issues by confronting this ... When he founds her alone in the publicity, he asked her But what on earth are you doing in this wilderness (105)? Archer s mentioning of the oak grove is another specific clue that leads to the identity of Diana, as she is actually queen of the woods in general and also goddess of the oaks in particular (Frazer, II, 380). Ellen s first name as the shortened version of Helen might also be an allusion to Diana, who is also known as Helen of the Tree (Frazer, V, 292). • 46. Use Of Diesohol As A Substitute For Diesel In our world today diesel engines have become a substantial part of the society, being used in buses, trucks, locomotives, tractors, and so on. Scientist has been seeking ways of improving the efficiency of diesel engines by developing and testing alternative fuels. Recent studies explore the use of diesohol as a substitute to diesel. Diesohol are classified as a mixture of diesel fuel and anhydrous alcohol blended using a chemical emulsifier, (Environmental Protection Agency, 2003).However a major concern regarding diesohol is both alcohols and diesel have dissimilar physical and chemical properties. Alcohols due to it being an oxygenate proved to burn cleanly and easily, and produce decreased amount of soot and harmful emissions (Mithun Mohan,2015) .It is estimated its combustion is around 3000 kJ/kg (The Engineering ToolBox, Unknown),(Mitun Mohan,2015).The chemical equation for the combustion of alcohols : CnH2n (l) 1OH (g) + (1.5n) O2 (g) → (n+1) H2O (l) + nCO2 (g) (Mithun Mohan, 2015) There were a few disadvantage observed with the use of only alcohols. One being, it became increasingly more difficult to burn alcohols as the molecules got bigger as more intermolecular force is needed to break the bonds. Another issue is the trouble and expense of modifying the engines for dual fuel capacity (Mithun Mohan,2015),(S.W. Mathewson.1980). Where they not present at the time, they were marked as dead. Their family would be removed, the house would be cleaned out, perfumed, and then, a mere four hours later, people would move back in. Obviously, the fear of not being observed would be strong in this situation, a direct result of the drastic measures taken once someone s presence could not be observed. Though this fear has the opposite motivation of the healthy citizens, who, knowing they are being watched, are afraid to do wrong, it works on the same basic principle. That if one knows they are being watched, it remains a constant consideration in their mind, regardless of the presence of an observer, the fear will always be present. The Panopticon, a prison described by Foucault, is a machine for dissociating the see/being seen dyad: in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing (321, Foucault). This literally means that in the formation of the panopticon those who are being seen can not see one another and the one who sees everything can never be seen. That is the most important tool of the panopticon. Foucault makes this assumption about today s society by saying that we are always being watched whether we know it or not. (Kaplan and Norton, 1996) From all these four perspectives, it can be seen that this measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates on both financial and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these years, BSC has developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic management system. ( Kaplan and Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance measurement from its origins, why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get benefits from adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has. In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible assets in the structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide service more than products and shareholders and customers pay more attention to the intangible assets rather than tangible assets.
