REVIEW OF LITERATURE:
Sugar is a highly concentrated in sugar cane sugar beets. Sugar is mainly used to sweeten food
and to prevent micro organisms from growing and spoiling food. Salt is a mineral composed of
sodium chloride. Its a crystallized mineral from rock salt and halite. Salts main usage is for
cooking, cleaning, and many health uses. While doing this project we discovered that 99.95 % of
sugar is pure sucrose. Although salt is used for cooking it is also used for cleaning. The ocean has
35grams of salt per liter which equals salinity of 3.5% We started this project to see the crystal
formation of sugar and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then you add sugar into one pot and salt into the other pot. Don t forget to add the same amount
of sugar and salt into the pots. When they are finally dissolved you add the salt water to one
container and the sugar water to its own container but make sure you don t fill it up all the way
leave 1in. Then you let it sit until it is warm. Next you stick a stick into the jars without the stick
touching the bottom. Mix it. Then you put the cover on with the stick through the cover then clip it
with the clothespin so the stick does not move. Then you put it on the side and let it sit where it
will not be hit. Check it daily until it is fully formed. Mark down observations.
RESULTS:
The end result of our project was that the salt formed a crystal before sugar did. On day seven the
crystal formation was 2 ВЅ inches for salt. For sugar it took ten days until it reached 2 ВЅ inches.
Although the crystals did not form on the stick because we messed up it formed around the
container therefore that is how we measured the growth.

Artemis In Greek Mythology
Mythology is an entertaining medium of entertainment, for both the ancient Greeks and Romans,
where there was no other form of entertainment, and the modern world, where the fantasies of old
continue to captivate the minds of the young. Every major Greek god has been represented many
times in modern media, but Artemis is one of the most dynamically presented characters in all of
mythology. This is due to the conflicting nature of the stories previously presented, which has been
a source of confusion for many. Nonetheless, people have continuously made stories out of the
archer. Artemis, while in the classic stories was very wise and fair yet stern, is considered younger
and more crass in more recent adaptations, such as The Titan s Curse. Artemis,... Show more content

She had a temple dedicated to her at Ephesus, which was known as one of the Seven Wonders of
the World when it was created ( Temple of Artemis ). It was commissioned by Croesus circa 500
BC, when he was king of Lydia ( Temple of Artemis ). It measured 350 by 150 feet, and was
adorned by art over the entire temple, even in areas as the top of the pillars that supported it (
Temple of Artemis ). The temple was destroyed twice, once by fire from Herostratus in 356 BC,
and once by destruction from invading Goths in 262 BC, after which the temple was never
rebuilt ( Temple of Artemis ). Works of art were also dedicated to stories describing her, such as
her encounter with Acteon in which Acteon and his hunting dogs come across Artemis bathing in
the woods; in spite, she turns Acteon into a mute deer who is attacked by his dogs ( Artemis and
Acteon ). This scene is described through an ancient bell krater, a vase like object used to mix
wine and water to dilute the heavy wine of ancient times (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The bell
krater depicts the scene where Artemis shoots Acteon and he is attacked by his dogs. The scene
shows grace in Artemis s movements, with the feeble Acteon helpless and on the ground, begging
for mercy for his actions while receiving none. The art and temples help a modern civilization to
understand how the ancient world worshipped

Bob Marley Get USand Up Analysis
Get up Stand up was written in 1973 and was written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh in the group :
The Wailers, published in the album : Legend, by Chrysalis One Music (Metrolyrics, n.d).
Furthermore, their source of inspiration was mainly influenced by their Jamaican upbringing. In
essence, the song is about the fight for acceptance of their Rastafarian religion and the need to take
action to avoid oppression.
The meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted as both religious and anti religious. On the
other hand, the line, `Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights, can be seen as a rallying call for
the people to stand up and demand respect for the Rastafarian religion. Firstly, the fundamental
message that he brings across is that religion is something personal, it is fine to have certain
religious beliefs, but it is not acceptable when you ram it in someone else s throat. He elaborates
on the need for mutual respect for others beliefs. In addition, the lines, Preacher man don t tell me,
heaven is under the earth, I know you don t know, what life is really worth, (Metrolyrics, n.d)
suggests hanging to the thought of freedom rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a vehicle for social and political comment as we see in everyday life. Furthermore, Get Up Stand

by political issues that were present in Jamaica, where western political, economic domination and
cultural imperialism had moved towards the heart of Jamaica. Thus, it was to Marley s concern that
the people are to stand up for themselves, forming one of the most powerful cultural forces among

Plate Tectonics Theory
The good thing about science is that it s true whether you believe in it or not, stated Neil Degrasse
Tyson. The Theory of Plate Tectonics is accredited to most of the creations of mountain ranges, the
Centennial Drifting Theory, earthquakes, and other landforms nature has made.
The idea of plate tectonics was formulated in the 1960s (Andel). Plate tectonics explains the origin
of Earth s surface features ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop). Alfred Wegner was just guessing about the
way plate tectonics were formed and no one believed him (Plate Tectonics). Scientists thought all
hills and uneven ground was due to the Earth shrinking. Scientists later found out that plates move
about 5 to 10 cm. per year. During the late 20th and early 21st centuries, researchers found out that
plate tectonics had influenced the composition of Earth s atmosphere and the oceans. After Wegner
died, his Theory of Pangea was proven correct due to further research on plate tectonics
(Kratochvil). Plate tectonics is also a prime cause of long term climate change (Andel). Plate
tectonics also give the rock cycle the ability to keep continuing. ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop)
Plates tectonics are very complex, they have many steps that make them work like they do. Plates
float on top of the mantle, it is the part of the earth between the core. The mantle starts to churn in
circular convection currents as they drag the tectonic plates along ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop). The
Earth s crust is split into

Romanticism In The Gothic Novel
The Gothic Novel is a product of the inordinate imaginative capability that was present in the
slater part of the eighteenth century. It is known that the gothic novel s prototype was Horace
Walpole s The Castle of Otranto (1764). It foreshadows the modern novels that evoke horror and
terror in the minds of people who read them. It subtly suggests the psychological motivations of the
characters and the deep abysses of the human mind. The gothic is usually associated by people
with a prevailing sense of terrible. There are some stock and inherent properties that are common to
all gothic literature. The gothic novels make wholesome use of darkness, mystery and obscurity.
There is a note of moral didacticism in these novels. Consequently, they portray their characters as
binaries of virtue and vice. This polarization and an excessive use of sentimentalism sometimes...

But one must understand that an appropriate setting should accompany the plot. The gothic novel
cannot be merely dismissed as a precursor to the trend of horror fiction. It would not be ludicrous
to think of a spectre haunting a modern house, approaching its victim in the modern cinematic
version. The film makers would provide blood curdling visual effects and spine chilling sensation
to the audience. The gothic novels are more than that. They should not be termed as shoddy
literature. They sustain a person s tension and heighten his sense of anticipation. There is always a
prevailing aura of gloom and impending confrontation with the nemesis. While most modern horror
fiction and films would make use of a miasma of blood (blood ridden hair, tongue, eyes), hollow
cavities, entrails, distorted faces and so on, the gothic novels strikingly make themselves

Living With Parents For Life With Your Parents
Being away for a little over eight months, college students everywhere will come home for the
summer. There will be love, long nights, and many visits. Although there will be the, See you in the
morning! at around midnight as well. All college students will be different when returning home.
They should have grown and matured. While being mature, students will be assuming more
freedom over the summer. This may be to stay out later or just for being left alone and not
constantly checked on. Summer is a time for enjoying the outdoors and spending time with loved
ones. Making the summer manageable, it will take the work of the students and the parents.
Although living with your parents during a college summer break can be difficult, there are many
strategies to help the summer with your parents go smoother. You need
to be realistic with your
expectations. Everyone comes home with this expectation of being treated like an adult. The
problem that shows up is our attitude and behavior does not match. If you wantto be treated like an
adult you need to act like one ( When College Students Head Home ). You cannot come home
after being away for eight months and think that your parents are gonna hold your hand again.
Although, you managed to take care of yourself for all those months, returning like a two year old
is not appropriate. You will be treated the way you act. As a kid, your curfew
was most likely one of
the worst moments over the summer. Running around and being with

Gap Inc. Essay
As a citizen of America you have definitely seen a store owned by Gap Inc. such as stores like
Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, Etc. These stores represent an ionic and proud American store
since 1969 which has multiplied since they opened their first store in San Francisco. This marked
the first of many stores that would open and take over America. Gapbecame an icon as it started to

This so called thing now has become a fashion statement as Women will always be on an endless
quest for that great pair of jeans because the denim industry keeps evolving and growing

now 42 years later it s still an issue. After all these years now they are the leading international
specialty retailer with five different brands. Behind the 3000 stores and 5 different brands come
134,000 employees. That is four times the population of Lichtenstein which is a small country
in the Swiss Alps. Such a large work force dedicated to the making of apparel brands really
stands out in the fashion industry and with this many designers, managers, sales associates, and
other leading roles Gap Inc. stands to make a difference in the way people dress. They are so
forward in their attempt to change the way of fashion that they have opened up new stores in new
countries such as Italy, China, and Australia, thus bringing once a pair of jeans to a multitude of
different apparel items. These new countries that have Gap Inc. stores popping up shows Gap Inc.

in China, including Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, and another 10 in Italy, including one in
Rome. Gap plans to double the number of franchise stores to 400 by 2015. (WDD.com).

Themes In For Whom The Bells Tolls
We all are put to the test by having to make sacrifices like a life or death situation. Although the
majority of those choices may be for the greater good, some can hurt others. We are put to the
task, and we have several obstacles in our way, and it is our duty to accomplish that task. In
Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bells Tolls, the character of Robert Jordan risks his life to
fight fascism to do his duty, take care of Maria and to wash away his father suicide.
To begin with, Robert Jordan takes care of the woman he loves, Maria. Ever since Robert Jordan
went with the reclusive group in the mountain, the two of them had empathy of love towards each
other. Robert Jordan tries to reject the adulation they have for each other because he thinks that
after the bridge is blown, they will not see each other anymore. Maria refuses to think that and
shows all her love towards him. Soon Robert Jordan seems to care more about Maria and uses
their passion for each other as a distraction from the war. Hewson states that Jordan comes to
realize that he and Maria are making an alliance against death through their love for each other (6).
Their love for each other designates them forget about everything, and all they want to do is be
together. The alliance against death that they have is significant in the story. Being together
assembles them to feel powerful and gives them both hope and strength during their hard times
there. This helps out both of these characters in their own

Gender Role In Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness Essay
Gender Role In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
For the most part people who read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad may feel that the novella
is strictly a story of exploration and racial discrimination. But to Johanna Smith who wrote Too
Beautiful Altogether : Ideologies of Gender and Empire in Heart of Darkness it is much more than
that. Johanna Smith along with Wallace Watson and Rita A. Bergenholtz agree that throughout
Heart of Darkness there are tones of gender prejudice, but the way that these three different authors
perceive and interpret those gender tones are to a certain extent different.
In Too Beautiful Altogether Smith points out that even though Heart of Darkness is an especially
masculine account, femininity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To recognize ideological contradictions in Heart of Darkness, one needs to be on familiar terms
with discourse. A discourse is a domain of language use (Belsey 5), a specific mode of speaking,
writing, and thinking that includes certain shared assumptions (Smith 190). One example Smith
gives of an ideology in Heart of Darkness is the ideology of gender or empire, written in the
words feminine or savage. Johanna Smith gives many examples of Marlow s contradictions that
his ideological discourse of empire and gender work to mystify. In Heart of Darkness the women
are often silenced. Smith points out the example of the laundress: the company s chief
accountant insists that she had to be taught to launder his clothes properly and that she had a
strong disliking for the job. But you never truly hear her side of the story; Smith suggests
Marlow s silencing of the laundress shows Marlow s authority as the masculine narrator of his
story, to conceal not only her story but also those of the other silent women in Heart of Darkness
(Smith 193). Marlow s Way of self asserting his dominating silence of the women is a clear
example of Marlow s view towards women and is a key illustration of just how much Marlow
believes he, as a male, is far more superior than a women. The second point

Aristotle Body

Ancient Philosophy

Final Examination
Aristotle s definition of the soul is the substance in the sense which corresponds to the definitive
formula of a thing s essence. Aristotle thought that the soul is the Form of the body. The soulis
basically all of the operations of a human being. Aristotle believed that there are levels of living
things. He stated that plants only have a vegetative soul, animals are above plants because they
have senses and appetites, and humans are above animals because it has the power of reasoning
and knowledge us. Aristotle tries to explain the difference between the body and the soul using an

He argues that because of this, there is growth, deterioration, and reproduction. Aristotle says
that plants only have this type of ability. To obtain this, it is important to have a soul. The next
level is sensation. Because of this quality, the feelings of pain and pleasure arises. Aristotle says
that animals have this quality. For a soul to have sensations, vegetation must be there as well. In
other words, if sensation is a characteristic of the soul, its vegetative ability is added as well. The
next capacity that can be developed is appetite, which is very much related to sensation. After the
soul is able to feel, there is a rush of desires. Some desires go along with what we physically need
like thirst and hunger and other desires that we do not need like emotions like anger. The next step
is motion, which is movement from place to place and rest. As said before, in order to have this
ability, it is essential to have the previous ones, building up on the soul. For motion to be possible,
appetite, sensation and vegetation must also be there. The last level is understanding; which
Aristotle thinks is the most unusual. This involves reasoning using thought and intelligence. In this
category, humans would most likely be found even though Aristotle states that some people are
guided only by imagination and not intelligence. Again, to have this quality, all of the
characteristics stated before must be

Speech About Corruption In The Philippines

especially in politics. It has caused political fights, undermines democracy and good governance by
flouting or even subverting formal processes for each other or just put in every penny in their
pocket from their own countrymen without them even knowing it. In order to stop these incidents
the people should be more educated in the world of politics so that they can be aware and stop the

If we want to stop corruption in the Philippines, we should stop all corruptions that are happening
inside the Philippines. We should fight all the corrupt Filipinos, whether they are politicians or they
are just simply our fellow countrymen. To the Filipinos these are the values that should be made
real. Like stopping the spread of corruption in the government. The government cannot work
without the people and vice versa it is a relationship that should work both ways and the two parties
meeting halfway or reaching in a understanding because it would be impossible to stop corruption
alone. (John, 2010) And by doing this we become more aware of corruption in our government
officials and the public can help the government by reporting them and showing disapproval or
shunning the corrupt politicians out of the government. (Martinez, 1999) Corruption deprives the

Modern Funerals In The Modern Funeral
The modern funeral is something that everybody experiences either through death of an
acquaintance or by direct necessity to arrange a funeral yet so many people know so little about
funerals and the industry behind it. This lack of knowledge is the main cause of consumer s issues
with the modern funeral. Arranging a funeral is at least problematic and in most cases is a
harrowing experience. This clearly indicates that fundamental problems exist in the funeral industry.
The funeral should be a hallowed event but is one overshadowed by the depressing and stressful
ordeal of arrangement. A majority of these issues could be resolved if the general public knew about
funerals but unfortunately this knowledge is not common and has many affects on the consumer.
The average consumer knows almost nothing about the average funeral in the United States, even
the most common things, such as embalming. Embalming is a method of preserving a dead body.
This is an oddly grotesque method is the standard in the United States. This indicates that this
process has had the largest effect on the funeral industry and this is certainly true. Embalming is
something that has formed the American funeral industry since its proliferation since the American
Civil War. This is also why the funeral industry in the United States is vastly different than almost
anywhere else in the world. In Europe an American funeral is seen as a very strange ritual. Putting
a preserved dead body on display is not

Essay about Natural Descriptions in Coleridge s and Lord...
Natural Descriptions in Coleridge s and Lord Byron s Texts Works Cited Missing Two closely
related texts, one that we ve studied in this class and one that we haven t, that handle natural
description differently are Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Lord Byron s
Manfred. Both of these texts central characters have experienced trauma, and their portrayal of their
environments reveal the effects that the events have left on them. While Coleridge s mariner is
unable to consolidate his past and is relegated to constantly relive it, Byron s Manfred has protected
himself from his unnamed vice by distancing himself from his feelings and environment. Obvious
parallels exist between the poems, but what I found most striking... Show more content on

This image accomplishes two things: 1) It tells the reader how he views himself, comparing himself
to a thousand thousand slimy things (l 237). 2) And it shows how he views the outside world, as a
corrupted, threatening environment. These descriptions reflect the events well enough to
determine that the mariner is attempting to accurately relive/retell the events. While making it
sound as if it s for the benefit of those that he s telling, the arbitrariness of selecting the audience and
the ambiguity of the story s message discredit the mariner s suggestion and imply that the stories
retelling is for the mariner s benefit. Again, Coleridge s mariner and Byron s Manfred share in their
experiences of trauma but differ in their attempts to overcome it. The psychological analogy that
working through trauma mirrors the habituation of an event can explain this difference. By
repeatedly attempting to experience the trauma, the mariner tries to get use to his past to reconcile
with his emotions. Manfred has successfully completed this process. The downfall with habituation
is that you eventually become desensitized to that stimuli and therefore lose a connection with the
environment, which is exactly Manfred s situation. The descriptions in Byron s text seem, largely,
distant emotionally and physically. He doesn t attempt to revisit his

Bird With The Crystal Plumage
Dario Argento s Bird with the Crystal Plumage is a film about the relationship between art and
violence which utilizes themes of spectacle and entrapment to illustrate how art serves as a
distortionary medium which reflects and confuses concepts of gender, sexuality, and power.
From the very onset of the film, Bird with the Crystal Plumage demonstrates artistry as a means of
brutalization by depicting the camera as something voyeuristic and predatory. Opening with a shot
of the instantly recognizable black gloves infamous in gialli films (Mackenzie 17), the introductory
sequence follows a young woman quite literally through the frame of a camera. In a series of four
freeze frames, the stalking camera steals images of the woman. These same shots then ... Show

Every camera shot traps her body, confining it as an image of objectification within the perimeter
of the frame. Frozen in time¬, the body becomes paralyzed by the camera which reduces and
pacifies it. In this state, the fixed image lies helpless, ripe for victimization. Photography, and by
extension art, becomes associated with megalomania and a perspective of perversion within the
scene. Once the last photograph of the woman is taken, the camera cuts to a close up shot of the
murderer unveiling a series of knives. As the murderer wipes down the length of the blade, the
camera cuts again to a shot of the gloved hands handling the photographs. The juxtaposition of
these shots provides a powerful visual basis for the association of violence and photography. There
is something profoundly disturbing about the way the murderer s black gloved hands slowly caress

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Structure and Rationale of the Study
To communicate is to satisfy man s individual need for social, emotional, and human development.
Communication is considered a basic human need for people cannot not communicate. We all need
to communicate to develop our full potentials.
These potentialities, however, are being held up in the case of the hearing impaired people. They
are not able to develop their full potentials for their faculty of understanding is also impaired. They
have the special need of having other means of communicating. They are in need of a medium that
would help them express and communicate what is on their minds. Concisely, they need to engage
in communication activities that would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People s beliefs and actions are largely influenced by the society. Hence, the hearing impaired
might have the same meanings as ours for we are all part of the same society. However, because of
the discrepancies on communication patterns and social interactions, there might be some
differences on what we see as meaningful to what they perceive as meaningful. Hence, the way
they perceive and learn symbols and their corresponding meanings may be different from or similar
to us. Their patterns of communication and realities might be different from ours as well.
Thus, the need to interpret the actions and beliefs of a person from the group of hearing impaired
would help us somehow understand their group in general and the effects of their impairment to
shared meanings. By interpreting the overt behaviors and actions of a deaf, explanation of other
underlying concepts on meaning making process and sign system formation (Denzin, Lincoln,
1994) can be provided. However, this study sought not to generalize the phenomena of the hearing
impaired population but to make the reader understand the phenomena as seen and described by the
researcher me.
Symbolic interactionism is the lens of the study for better portrayal and understanding of the
meaning making process. Symbolic interaction is perceived as the communication theory of human
behavior (Faules and Alexander, 1978) as it highlights the significance

Colombia is a country located at the north tip of South America. It is bounded by Panama and the
Caribbean Sea in the north, by Venezuela and Brazil in the east, by Peru and Ecuador in the south,
and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Colombia is the only South American country with coastlines on
both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea (National Geographic.) Colombiais one of the largest
South American countries at 439,733 square miles, or about the size of Texas and California
combined. Colombia is a mainly Spanish speaking, Catholic country, but has a diverse population.
Colombia is the only American nation named for Christopher Columbus. The country strongly
reflects its history as a colony of Spain. Colombia became independent on July 20, 1810 (Kline.) It
is often referred to as the most Roman Catholic of the South American countries, and most of its
people are proud of the relative purity of their Spanish language. Its population is heavily mestizo
(of mixed European and Indian descent) with minorities of European and African ancestry. The
economy is traditionally based on agriculture, particularly coffee and fruit production, but industries
and services are increasing in importance. Colombia is the most populous country of South
America. The nation s political instability has been tied to unequal distribution of wealth and the
illicit trade in drugs, specifically cocaine.
The Europeans first visited the territory that would become Colombia when Alonso de Ojeda arrived

A Brief Look at the Brothers Grimm
How many little girls dream of being Snow White? How much money did Disney s Tangled
make? What little girl hasn t dressed up as Cinderella or dreamed of meeting her very own prince
charming? These popular fairy tales were created by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Their primary
motivation when starting their collection of fairy tales was to preserve culture rather than entertain,
but entertain is what they did. These fairy tales, and versions of them, have remained popular for a
very long time, outlasting most other works of literature. The Brothers Grimmadapted these well
known stories from around Europe to reflect their own personal views, Germanize them and
remove some of the more disturbing details of the original stories. In the same way, these fairy
tales have been altered again and again to be acceptable to society. Fairy tales similar in theme can
be found across the world. The Brothers Grimm versions are the most familiar because their
emphasis on German culture and Christian morals is very similar to American culture and values.
The adaptability and skillful incorporation of morals and issues considered socially unacceptable in
an entertaining story, has allowed the Brother s fairy tales to last throughout the ages. One of the
most popular of the Brothers Grimm s fairy tales is Snow White. In the original version, the theme
was that of a mother daughter rivalry, but the Grimm brothers changed many elements so that it
would more closely reflect their values. In the

A Research Study On Health Economics
Health Economics is the field of study in which a strict analysis of healthcare system done. It
applies the economics theories of consumer, manufacturer and choice; health economics aims at
understanding the general trends in the industry and the behavior of everyone involved, from
consumers to healthcare providers and government. Healthcare system in United States underwent
a significant change between the years 1750 and 2000. It was only a system of home remedies and
system of healthcare providers that was not very structured. It later evolved into very advanced,
complex system that involved innovative technologies and was bureaucratically controlled and
often called a medical, industrial complex or health industry. This period not only observed the
evolution of practices in medicine, the governmental institutions themselves changed along with
healthcare programs, drug regulations, and insurance policies. The most recent development in this
sector is the establishment of healthcare corporations, which makes a profit by providing healthcare.
19th century
One breakthrough event was the origination of private health insurance around the middle of 19th
century. During the latter half, mutual aid system that arose from Europe was embraced in the
United States. It based on collections of small contributions from each member, and it promised
that a subsidy would be given at the time of any incident of sickness or disability. This system went

Dissociative Disorder
Somatic and Dissociative Syndromes
Let us start by defining somatic symptom disorder, malingering, factitious disorder, and
dissociative disorders according to the DSM 5. A somatic symptom disorder is a disorder in which
persons become excessively distressed, concerned, and anxious, about bodily symptoms they are
experiencing. Malingering is intentionally faking to achieve some external gains, such as financial
compensation or military deferment. Factitious disorder is a disorder in which an individual feigns
or induces physical symptoms, typically for the purpose of assuming the role of a sick person. A
dissociative disorder is a disorder marked by major changes in memory that do not have clear
physical causes. Are all of these disorder legit? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mental disorder where an individual overthinks about his/her symptoms. Thoughts are harder
to control than physical actions in my opinion and this is a disorder that is brought up because of
thoughts and emotions. When discussing conversion disorder, a disorder in which medically
unexplained bodily symptoms affect voluntary motor and sensory functions, the emotions that are
so hard to get rid of actually induce physical symptoms. Our mind and bodies are connected more
than we think and this disorder proves it. I find this disorder difficult to question is legitimacy
because the symptoms are real. Even though the doctors cannot find physical causes, they can find
physical proof of the disorder.
The last disorder to discuss is dissociative disorder. A dissociative disorder is similar to a conversion
disorder in that there are no physical reasons for the symptoms but the symptoms are real. Even
though clinicians cannot find physical causes, there must be something that happens with patients
of this disorder because most of the time the disorder appears more than once in patients. Whether
there is a small biological defective or a mental mishap, there is something that happens to patients
that makes them adopt the symptoms of this

The World Of Collegiate Athletics
The world of collegiate athletics was founded upon the ideals of commercialism and is filled with
talented athletes that contain tremendous amounts of potential. Unfortunately, in order to bring in
revenue that serves as crucial funding for their universities nationwide, the NCAA exploits the
talent of these players and justifies this action by assuming the disguise of amateurism while also
managing to adopt an indistinct version of professionalism. Instead, the NCAA spends portions of
its revenue in order to renovate sports facilities and pay members of the coaching staff rather than
providing compensation for the main sources of its revenue the players and the attention that their
athletic talents bring to this organization. By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By regarding participation in collegiate athletics as a hobby, the NCAA is subtly discrediting both
the hard work and dedication of college athletes. In their defense, the association of college athletics
with the word amateurism is believed to call these athletes to also put an emphasis on their
education. Even though collegiate athletics appear to be managed under the principles of
amateurism and call athletes to focus on their education, it doesn t necessarily mean that most of
these athletes actually want to emphasize education more than athletics. As talented individuals,
college athletes work hard in order to provide success for their respective teams and to properly
ensure their own success at the next level. Not only does an education that is forced upon some of
them detract from their athletic aspirations, but it also makes it highly infeasible for them to
sustain a job that regular college students have the chance to partake in. That is why a small form
of compensation from the NCAA would not only reward them for the mass amounts of revenue
that they bring in, but it would also provide a source of income that could only be obtained if these
athletes were able to pursue job opportunities.

Comparing Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
How different can a play and two movies be when they all tell the same story? The play The
Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the movie Romeo and Juliet (1968), and the film William
Shakespeare s Romeo + Juliet (1996) vary greatly from one to the other; however, they all
express the tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet. These two movies should be described as accurate
representations of the original play, despite their disparities from each other. The costuming used
in these two films clearly exemplifies the time periods of the story and how character s styles
showcased their lives. Regardless of the fact that there are parts in both movies that are not in the
written play and vice versa, the films still manage to capture the most crucial scenes in... Show

One evident difference between the two films is setting. In the older movie, it is clear to see that
the story takes place in the ancient city of Verona, and the filmshows how Verona appeared at the
time that the play would have taken place. However, in the more recent version of the film, the
setting is fairly dissimilar from what the audience pictures while reading the play. The setting is
completely modernized, making everything in the city look newer and updated for example, the
presence of gas stations for cars that would not have even existed during the time of the original
movie creates a modern setting. Although the setting is altered from movie to movie, the
characters in both remain quite similar. For instance, one can clearly see that Mercutio is
Romeo s loyal, quick tempered, best friend in both films. It is easy to identify Mercutio in both
films by his anger during his monologue about Queen Mab and in his monologue about a plague
before his death, where he unexpectedly goes off and reveals his frustration. Mercutio, along with
several other characters, are accurately depicted as they are in the original play in both movies.
Despite some differences, both movies of Romeo and Juliet precisely express the story of these
two star crossed

automatically invasions crime, unsanitary living conditions, and an overcrowded and loud

many years low income housing has brought forth residents with high stress and desperate
character. Communities with higher morale and fatter wallets reject the opportunity for low
income families to live amongst there neighborhood, forcing low income development to be

Love In Love, My Love For Basketball
Hello, my name is Tamara, and I m in love with this sport. I m 18 years old, a senior in high

was 15. I never had any experience with sports whatsoever except for basketball earlier that year,
and honestly had no idea what I was doing. I felt I had no physical ability and had low self
esteem when it came to my athletic ability. I was 4 6 and still managed to get on picked for the
team for basketball, though probably being one of the shortest people in the group. Basketball
has been a sport I ve always liked, and realizing how hard it really was to actually play was a hard
pill for me to swallow. During the period of the season, I spent the time in basketball off season
to practice on what needed to know and what can help me during next season. After the
basketball season ended, our head coach called us all to the gym, and began telling us it was
time for a new sport; Track and Field. she told us it was for the best of the best. We went outside
and got all of our times. Being inexperienced, I was wearing casual high top reeboks that were
extremely heavy. I did well. The next day, my friend encouraged me to try some old shoes she
had, emphasizing how light they were. The time we needed to make to be considered for the team

fact it does not. No kill is smarter financially and a wonderful choice to improve local communities

Talk Therapy For Depression Or Bipolar Disorder ( Manic...
Psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) can be an important part of treatment for depression or
bipolar disorder (manic depression). A good therapist can help you cope with feelings and
symptoms, and change behavior patterns that may contribute to your illness.
Talk therapy is not just talking about your problems ; it is also working toward solutions. Some
therapy may involve homework, such as tracking your moods, writing about your thoughts, or
participating in social activities that have caused anxiety in the past. You might be encouraged to
look at things in a different way or learn new ways to react to events or people.
Most of today s psychotherapy is brief and focused on your current thoughts, feelings and life
issues. Focusing on the past can help explain things in your life, but focusing on the present can
help you cope with the present and prepare for the future. You might see your therapist more often
at the beginning of treatment, and later, as you learn to manage problems and avoid triggers, you
might go to psychotherapy appointments less often.
Psychotherapy can help you: Understand your illness; define and reach wellness goals; overcome
fears or insecurities; cope with stress; make sense of past traumatic experiences; separate your true
personality from the mood swings caused by your illness; identify triggers that may worsen your
symptoms; improve relationships with family and friends; establish a stable, dependable routine;

How Literary Fiction Teaches Us To Be Human By Tom Blunt
Educators have long been arguing that literary education, in school and beyond, is crucial for
emotional development. However, until recently, very little evidence existed to scientifically
support this idea. In his article, This is How Literary Fiction Teaches Us to Be Human , author Tom
Blunt makes a concise but persuasive argument about why literature is essential for human
emotional development. In order to effectively prove his point, Blunt cites both scientific and
anecdotal evidence and emphasizes the essential nature of empathy, derived from reading literature,
to future generations.
The first way author Tom Blunt attempts to prove his point about literature is through scientific
studies. In one study he describes, researchers found that reading literary fiction led to better results
in subjects tested for Theory of Mind , a budding field that explores the scientific basis for empathy.
Another study he quotes states that participants who had read the fictional story Saffron Dreams by

Characteristics Of A Root Cause Analysis
A root cause analysis is a mechanism used to determine if procedures prompt sentinel occasions.
A sentinel occasion is characterized by Cherry and Jacob as a startling event that can cause
genuine physical or psychologic damage or the danger thereof. (Cherry and Jacob, 2011, p. 444)
The goal of a root cause analysisis to distinguish the components which brought on the sentinel
occasion and to recognize imperfections in the framework which can be adjusted with a specific
end goal to keep a rehash of the occasion later on. A root cause analysis is not used to accuse
people, and is not relevant when the occasion is deliberate, or brought on by carelessness or a
criminal demonstration. Root cause analysis concentrates on disappointments in the framework that
can be remedied (Huber and Ogirnc, 2014). Before starting the RCA, a multidisciplinary group is
chosen to survey the occasions included in the sentinel occasion. This group is regularly made out
of four to six individuals. These individuals would incorporate agents from Risk and Quality
departments. Despite the fact that including Nurse J. what s more, Dr. T. on the group will give
direct information of the occasions, they could expect that the RCA is being led to place fault on
them. Each individual from the group must comprehend and concur this is not the motivation
behind the RCA. The viability of the group will be decreased in the event that this point is not

The Dia Art Foundation First Opened Dia Beacon
The Dia art Foundation first opened Dia Beacon in 2003 on the banks of the Hudson River in
Beacon, New York. It was originally established by Philippa de Menial, Heiner Friedrich, and
Helen Winkler in 1974. Dia Beacon opened in what was once a Nabisco box printing factory
that they transformed into a museum. In this museum they display Dia s collection of art
projects from the 1960s to today. Dia offers special programs that include gallery talks, events
and an education program. Since its establishing in 1974, Dia has been committed to supporting
individual artists and to giving detailed presentations of their specialty. The Beacon gallery s
broad exhibitions have been particularly intended for the show of the works in Dia s

Abstract¬¬¬ This paper presents a low hardware overhead test pattern generator (TPG) for
scan based built in self test (BIST) that can reduce switching activity in circuits under test
(CUTs) during BIST. BIST is a device, here part of the functional device is self dedicated to self
testing the correctness of the device. In general BIST is comprised of two TPGs: LT RTPG
(Low Transition Random Test Pattern Generator) and 3 Weight WRBIST(Weighted Random Built
In Self Test) Minimization of hardware overhead is a major concern of BIST implementation. In
test per scan BIST, a new test pattern is applied to the inputs of the CUT every m + 1clock cycles,
where m is the number of scan elements in the longest scan chain. By using two proposed TPG
increasing fault coverage is achieved through the reduction of switching activity, thereby dissipation
of power is minimized.

SUPPLY CHAIN BALANCED SCORECARD (SCOR: SUPPLY CHAIN OPERATIONS
REFERENCE MODEL)
With the SCOR model we tried to compare performance of GE before and after recession and
measure the supply chain efficiency in each period based on the four dimensions Source, Plan,
Make and Deliver as shown exhibit 2. Exhibit 2: SCOR Model for Supply Chain Efficiency
The Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for each of the dimensions were identified and GE was
scored on each of these KPIs for pre recession quarter and post recession quarter. The prerecession
supply chain efficiency of GE was found to be 87.94% and that in the post recession period to be
73.12%.
5
It is evident from the analysis above that GE s supply chain efficiency has reduced in the post
recession period.

The Fascinating Tale of Jell-o in an Article by Sarah E....
In 1992, in the 51st volume of Western Folklore, Sarah E. Newton published her article: The Jell
O Syndrome : Investigating Popular Culture/Foodways. In this piece, Newton discusses the
history and impact of Jell O, gelatin desert, in American foodways and pop culture since its
establishment in 1897 (252). Without delay, Newton acquaints her intentions, as her thesis
vows to use research to take readers on a cultural and historical journey or exotic byway as she
calls it (249), into the fascinating tale of Jell O. Through that research, she is arguing the level
or significance of Jell O in American foodways, as she believes this versatile invention has not
received the respect in the foodways department that she thinks it deserves (249). Newton starts
off by referencing the large frequency in which Jell O is used in American recipes. Newton
defends these statements by pointing out the overwhelming usage of Jell O as an ingredient for
salads and desserts in numerous American cookbooks (250). This is a questionable approach.
Although it is understandable to reference American cookbooks for the frequency of usage of an
ingredient, a few books is not a big enough sample of the thousands that exist. Also, not all
American families own cookbooks or use them on a regular basis as a reference for cooking, nor is
it guaranteed that they use any recipes in the book that incorporate Jell O. Lastly, Newton
introduces Americans emotional bond to Jell O, emphasizing the fun that

Allusions In The Christmas Carol
The Christmas Carol is a magnificent movie which shows Ebenezar Scrooge a grumpy old man
who changes his future. Ebenezar will go on a magical journey where he will see his past, present,
and future with the help of the ghosts of past, present, and future, which changes Scrooge for the
better. In the ChristmasCarol you find many allusions, metaphors, allegories, paradoxes,
personifications. An example of a foreshadowing would be of how Mr. Scrooge is an old
grumpy and gloomy man, and while I was watching this I thought they were implying that
something sad has happened in his life to make Mr. Scrooge to be so dark and dreary. In the
Christmas Carol scrooge has an employee Mr. Cratchet who is happy and joyful. Scrooge has a
nephew who does the same thing every Christmas Day invites his uncle to go dine with him, but
unsurprisingly Scrooge declines every year. The movie shows why he is full of sadness and that
as a kid all his friends had left him and growing up he was poor but when he got his job he only
cared about money instead of joyful times.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a personification, a paradox, and an anthropomorphism. It is a personification because
the movie gave the candle arms, the ability of speech and a face. It is also a paradox because in
the movie the candle along with help from the ghosts of present and future help Scrooge to
change for the better. It is anthropomorphism because the candle has feelings for Scrooge and was
sad when he was sad and an ordinary candle couldn t bear to have emotions and let alone the
ability of speech and a

Marketing Warfare
A summary of Al Ries Jack Trout s marketing bestseller
Marketing Warfare
Executive summary
Marketing warfare strategies are a type of strategies, used in business and marketing, that try to
draw parallels between business and warfare, and then apply the principles of military strategy to
business situations, with competing firms considered as analogous to sides in a military conflict,
and market share considered as analogous to the territory which is being fought over citation
needed. It is argued that, in mature, low growth markets, and when real GDP growth is negative
or low, business operates as a zero sum game. One person s gain is possible only at another person
s expense. Success depends on battling competitors for market ... Show more content on

When the defenders are taken by surprise, it usually is because they ignored warnings or did not
take them seriously.
The New Era of Competition
Ries and Trout argue that it is strategy and not hard work that determines success. In warfare, when
a battle turns to hand to hand combat, the advantage resulting from the strategic plan no longer
exists. In marketing, a firm achieves victory through a smarter strategy, not by spending longer
hours with meetings, reports, memos, and management reviews. When management declares that it
is time to redouble our efforts , then the marketing battle has turned to hand to hand combat and is
likely to end in defeat.
The Nature of the Battleground
Ries and Trout argue that marketing battles do not take place in geographic areas, nor in stores.
Rather, marketing battles take place in the mind of the consumer.
In marketing, market research traditionally has served this function. However, Ries and Trout
propose that the most important information is to know which positions are held by which
companies in the mind of the consumer. In other words, who holds the high ground.
In marketing warfare, the question is one of who holds the

The Relationship Of Self And Mate Ratings
In this study, we explored the relationship of self and mate personalities and adapted a shorter
version of the BFI (Big Five Inventory) as a tool to facilitate our experiment. We predicted two
things: One was that there will be a significant positive correlation between self and mate ratings is
all of the Big Five traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and
Neuroticism) except for Neuroticism, and the second one was that mate ratings will be higher than
self rating in ALL traits, but Neuroticism will have self ratings higher than mate rating. Previous
research by Figueredo et al. have found that people want to find someone who are closely similar
to themselves in terms of positive traits (Figueredo, Sefcek ... Show more content on

According to Sigmund Freud s theory, personality is based on three different pillars: id, ego, and
superego. Id consists of our instincts, which was implemented within ourselves since birth. Our
Ego handles all aspects of reality and suppresses the Id to not act on instinctive impulse. The
superego plays the angelic role in your psyche that tells you right from wrong. These little
aspects of personality is what draws attention to your mate. Everyone has their own perspective
in what they look for in a relationship. There are some traits that are acquired by individuals that
are preferred by others which creates a leverage for mate selection. I prefer my partner to acquire
the same personalities as I do because I like familiarity. Married couples may prefer mates with
different personalities, so they can accommodate to each others needs (Prince and Baggaley,
1963). My parents have such different personalities but in some ways, it complements each other.
My mother has a verbose personality, whereas my father is more quiet and conventional.
Observing relationships amongst my peers, many couples break up because one person wants to
change the personality of the other, in order to match their own needs. One way to measure
personalities, is by using the Big Five Inventory (BFI). The Big five inventory is a self answered
questionnaire that measures the five main personality traits. The Big Five was first introduced by

Societal Impacts Of Genetic Study Of Intelligence
SOCIETAL IMPACTS OF GENETIC STUDY OF INTELLIGENCE: Throughout history racism
has been centered on phenotypic differences between races such as skin color. Also, there was a
multitude of false information that was created by racism, for example, the claim that certain races
have the predisposition to be less intelligent than others. In 1994, Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles
Murray published The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life. This
controversial bestseller differences between races and classes were the result of differences in
inherited intelligence which could not be changed. This has caused many people in the scientific
community to question if the study of intelligence can remain societally neutral. Roberts... Show

These study methods allow researchers to look for similarities and differences within the genome of
individuals of different intelligence levels. Using single nucleotide polymorphism testing,
researchers are able to look at single base pairs within the genome and make comparisons within a
population. With the technology that has developed in the last few decades, the study of
intelligence has become much more complex and in depth which has allowed geneticists to see
trends that they have not seen before. POLYGENIC: With the new genetic study technologies of
the twenty first century, researchers are able to conduct genome wide analysis studies as well as
single nucleotide polymorphism studies which can be used to determine which genes, if any, code
for intelligence. A study by Benyamin et al. (2014) used single nucleotide polymorphism testing to
compare the genomes of 17,989 children. The authors looked for genes in which children of similar
intelligence shared many single nucleotide polymorphisms. However, the authors did not find any
single nucleotide polymorphisms that reached a genome wide significance value. Thus, the authors
concluded that this result points to intelligence being the result of the aggregate effect of many
genes within the genome and not just one specific mother gene . However, while

Irregular Warfare Mindset Needed for Our Modern World Essay
Since World War II, there have been over 80 irregular conflicts, including civil and guerrilla wars,
rebellions or insurgencies. The United States has been involved in several of these conflicts, some
of which are still ongoing, such as the conflict in Somalia. The conflict in Somalia, widely seen as
unsuccessful, saw a significant change from the conventional mindset to one of irregular warfare.
While threats from conventional forces still exist in today s environment, irregular warfare has
become a mainstay across the globe.
The United States needs to adopt and maintain an irregular warfare mindset, above that of
conventional, to ensure adaptable economic, political and military capabilities in an ever evolving
global environment. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Backed by the international community, including the UN, the U.S. attempted to provide basic
services to the people of war torn Somalia. Although these stability operations ultimately failed, the
U.S. has been able to capitalize on the lessons learned from Somalia. Somalia greatly changed the
way the U.S. conducted irregular warfare activities, such as stability operations and two other
significant ones.
Counterinsurgency (COIN) and Counterterrorism (CT) operations have been used extensively in
Somalia since 1992, especially since the failed use of stability operations. While neither of these
operations has had success in creating a stable Somalia, both have been instrumental in keeping
Islamic militants in check, particularly those with ties to al Qaeda (i.e. al Shabaab). Fighting
terrorist organizations such as al Shabaab and al Qaeda have been dominated by irregular warfare,
which has spawned numerous military and academic studies regarding irregular warfare. In cases
such as Somalia, Afghanistan, and other global hotbeds for terrorism, the U.S. has refined the way
irregular warfare is conducted.
The three irregular warfare activities listed above (stability operations, counterinsurgency, and
counterterrorism) have led front pages since Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. COIN, in particular,
defines the way the U.S. approaches irregular warfare, but the U.S. is ultimately

Suggested Strategy for Central High School
Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase
of new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central
High School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has
approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school
was conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab
per grade level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one
period per day. There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for
teacher use) as well as a bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for
the guidance counselors, nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the
inventory was being done, a survey was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs
were greatest and what specific equipment was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority
of the teachers was more computers in the individual classrooms, specifically in the math and
science rooms as a lot of current information was required and there was a lot of competition for
its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and move the computer from place to place, such
that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred over a desktop. Market Research In order
to take the needs of the school and convert that into a proposal, I

Pre-Columbian Period

Main article: Pre Columbian
The earliest known inhabitants of what is now the United States are thought to have arrived in
Alaska by crossing the Bering land bridge, at least 14,000 30,000 years ago.[10] Some of these
groups migrated south and east, and over time spread throughout the Americas. These were the
ancestors to modern Native Americans in the United States and Alaskan Native peoples, as well as
all indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Many indigenous peoples were semi nomadic tribes of hunter gatherers; others were sedentary and
agricultural civilizations. Many formed new tribes or confederations in response to European

[edit] French colonization
See also: New France and Fort Caroline
New France was the area colonized by France in North America during a period extending from
the exploration of the Saint Lawrence River, by Jacques Cartier in 1534, to the cession of New
France to Spain and Britain in 1763. At its peak in 1712 (before the Treaty of Utrecht), the
territory of New France extended from Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains and from Hudson
Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. The territory was divided in five colonies, each with its own
administration: Canada, Acadia, Hudson Bay, Newfoundland and Louisiana.
Also during this period, French Huguenots, sailing under Jean Ribault, attempted to found a colony
in what became the southeastern coast of the United States. Arriving in 1562, they established the
ephemeral colony of Charlesfort on Parris Island in what is now South Carolina. When this failed,
most of the colonists followed RenГ© Goulaine de LaudonniГЁre and moved south, founding the
colony of Fort Caroline at the mouth of the St. Johns River in what is now Jacksonville, Florida
on June 22, 1564. Fort Caroline was destroyed in 1565 by the Spanish under Pedro MenГ©ndez de
AvilГ©s, who moved in from St. Augustine, founded to the south earlier in the year.

Essay about Microbial Desalination Cells
Microbial Desalination Cells
Desalination is the removal of salt from seawater to provide freshwater especially in developing
countries. Currently, MFCs (Microbial Fuel Cells) have generated electricity from biomass using
bacteria. These microbes cause an electric current where electrons flow from the anode to the
cathode where the reduction of oxygen occurs. A revolutionary new method called MDCs
(Microbial Desalination Cells) could potentially desalinate water and produce energy depending
on the design or set up of the cell. This process is similar to water electrodialysis but uses bacteria
as the source of energy rather than an external source. If the set up of the MDC is altered to

Theme Of A Clean Well-Lighted Place
When first reading Ernest Hemmingway s A Clean Well Lighted Place it seems to be nothing
more than a simple short story. But when looking deeper into the narrative one realizes how
meaningful and insightful this story truly is. It brings the readers to understand the dark reality
of life and different views between young and old. Hemingway sets an atmosphere of despair
and loneliness throughout the entire dialogue and monologue within. The story is an interaction
between two waiters, one old one young, within a cafГ© in Madrid, Spain. The two waiters
argue about an old regular of the cafГ©, who comes alone and drinks until closing time.
Throughout the story, the two men reflect on the nature of happiness and the inevitability of
death. The story exhibits how age has an immense effect on the way we observe life. In
Hemmingway s A Clean Well Lighted Place the age difference between these two colleagues
brings a difference in personality, values, and solidarity. A Clean, Well Lighted Place reflects on
differences of age and the personalities that go along with it. The older waiter is portrayed as an
unaccompanied, obscure, and isolated individual who feels his life is meaningless. The mature
waiter has much more sympathy for the old customer in the cafe because he understands his state
of mind. It is apparent that he has a deep appreciation and understanding of life. The personality and
emotions of the older waiter are contrasted with those of the younger waiter. The

Then you put the cover on with the stick through the cover then clip it with the clothespin so the stick does not move. Then you put it on the side and let it sit where it will not be hit. Check it daily until it is fully formed. Mark down observations. RESULTS: The end result of our project was that the salt formed a crystal before sugar did. On day seven the crystal formation was 2 ВЅ inches for salt. For sugar it took ten days until it reached 2 ВЅ inches. • 4. Artemis In Greek Mythology Mythology is an entertaining medium of entertainment, for both the ancient Greeks and Romans, where there was no other form of entertainment, and the modern world, where the fantasies of old continue to captivate the minds of the young. Every major Greek god has been represented many times in modern media, but Artemis is one of the most dynamically presented characters in all of mythology. This is due to the conflicting nature of the stories previously presented, which has been a source of confusion for many. Nonetheless, people have continuously made stories out of the archer. Artemis, while in the classic stories was very wise and fair yet stern, is considered younger and more crass in more recent adaptations, such as The Titan s Curse. Artemis,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had a temple dedicated to her at Ephesus, which was known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World when it was created ( Temple of Artemis ). It was commissioned by Croesus circa 500 BC, when he was king of Lydia ( Temple of Artemis ). It measured 350 by 150 feet, and was adorned by art over the entire temple, even in areas as the top of the pillars that supported it ( Temple of Artemis ). The temple was destroyed twice, once by fire from Herostratus in 356 BC, and once by destruction from invading Goths in 262 BC, after which the temple was never rebuilt ( Temple of Artemis ). Works of art were also dedicated to stories describing her, such as her encounter with Acteon in which Acteon and his hunting dogs come across Artemis bathing in the woods; in spite, she turns Acteon into a mute deer who is attacked by his dogs ( Artemis and Acteon ). This scene is described through an ancient bell krater, a vase like object used to mix wine and water to dilute the heavy wine of ancient times (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston). The bell krater depicts the scene where Artemis shoots Acteon and he is attacked by his dogs. The scene shows grace in Artemis s movements, with the feeble Acteon helpless and on the ground, begging for mercy for his actions while receiving none. The art and temples help a modern civilization to understand how the ancient world worshipped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bob Marley Get USand Up Analysis Get up Stand up was written in 1973 and was written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh in the group : The Wailers, published in the album : Legend, by Chrysalis One Music (Metrolyrics, n.d). Furthermore, their source of inspiration was mainly influenced by their Jamaican upbringing. In essence, the song is about the fight for acceptance of their Rastafarian religion and the need to take action to avoid oppression. The meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted as both religious and anti religious. On the other hand, the line, `Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights, can be seen as a rallying call for the people to stand up and demand respect for the Rastafarian religion. Firstly, the fundamental message that he brings across is that religion is something personal, it is fine to have certain religious beliefs, but it is not acceptable when you ram it in someone else s throat. He elaborates on the need for mutual respect for others beliefs. In addition, the lines, Preacher man don t tell me, heaven is under the earth, I know you don t know, what life is really worth, (Metrolyrics, n.d) suggests hanging to the thought of freedom rather ... Marley had also been influenced by political issues that were present in Jamaica, where western political, economic domination and cultural imperialism had moved towards the heart of Jamaica. • 6. Plate Tectonics Theory The good thing about science is that it s true whether you believe in it or not, stated Neil Degrasse Tyson. The Theory of Plate Tectonics is accredited to most of the creations of mountain ranges, the Centennial Drifting Theory, earthquakes, and other landforms nature has made. The idea of plate tectonics was formulated in the 1960s (Andel). Plate tectonics explains the origin of Earth s surface features ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop). Alfred Wegner was just guessing about the way plate tectonics were formed and no one believed him (Plate Tectonics). Scientists thought all hills and uneven ground was due to the Earth shrinking. Scientists later found out that plates move about 5 to 10 cm. per year. During the late 20th and early 21st centuries, researchers found out that plate tectonics had influenced the composition of Earth s atmosphere and the oceans. After Wegner died, his Theory of Pangea was proven correct due to further research on plate tectonics (Kratochvil). Plate tectonics is also a prime cause of long term climate change (Andel). Plate tectonics also give the rock cycle the ability to keep continuing. ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop) Plates tectonics are very complex, they have many steps that make them work like they do. Plates float on top of the mantle, it is the part of the earth between the core. The mantle starts to churn in circular convection currents as they drag the tectonic plates along ( Plate Tectonics BrainPop). The Earth s crust is split into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Romanticism In The Gothic Novel The Gothic Novel is a product of the inordinate imaginative capability that was present in the slater part of the eighteenth century. It is known that the gothic novel s prototype was Horace Walpole s The Castle of Otranto (1764). It foreshadows the modern novels that evoke horror and terror in the minds of people who read them. It subtly suggests the psychological motivations of the characters and the deep abysses of the human mind. The gothic is usually associated by people with a prevailing sense of terrible. There are some stock and inherent properties that are common to all gothic literature. The gothic novels make wholesome use of darkness, mystery and obscurity. There is a note of moral didacticism in these novels. Consequently, they portray their characters as binaries of virtue and vice. This polarization and an excessive use of sentimentalism sometimes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But one must understand that an appropriate setting should accompany the plot. The gothic novel cannot be merely dismissed as a precursor to the trend of horror fiction. It would not be ludicrous to think of a spectre haunting a modern house, approaching its victim in the modern cinematic version. The film makers would provide blood curdling visual effects and spine chilling sensation to the audience. The gothic novels are more than that. They should not be termed as shoddy literature. They sustain a person s tension and heighten his sense of anticipation. There is always a prevailing aura of gloom and impending confrontation with the nemesis. While most modern horror fiction and films would make use of a miasma of blood (blood ridden hair, tongue, eyes), hollow cavities, entrails, distorted faces and so on, the gothic novels strikingly make themselves psychologically ... • 10. Themes In For Whom The Bells Tolls We all are put to the test by having to make sacrifices like a life or death situation. Although the majority of those choices may be for the greater good, some can hurt others. We are put to the task, and we have several obstacles in our way, and it is our duty to accomplish that task. In Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bells Tolls, the character of Robert Jordan risks his life to fight fascism to do his duty, take care of Maria and to wash away his father suicide. To begin with, Robert Jordan takes care of the woman he loves, Maria. Ever since Robert Jordan went with the reclusive group in the mountain, the two of them had empathy of love towards each other. Robert Jordan tries to reject the adulation they have for each other because he thinks that after the bridge is blown, they will not see each other anymore. Maria refuses to think that and shows all her love towards him. Soon Robert Jordan seems to care more about Maria and uses their passion for each other as a distraction from the war. Hewson states that Jordan comes to realize that he and Maria are making an alliance against death through their love for each other (6). Their love for each other designates them forget about everything, and all they want to do is be together. The alliance against death that they have is significant in the story. Being together assembles them to feel powerful and gives them both hope and strength during their hard times there. This helps out both of these characters in their own ... • 11. Gender Role In Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness Essay Gender Role In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness For the most part people who read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad may feel that the novella is strictly a story of exploration and racial discrimination. But to Johanna Smith who wrote Too Beautiful Altogether : Ideologies of Gender and Empire in Heart of Darkness it is much more than that. Johanna Smith along with Wallace Watson and Rita A. Bergenholtz agree that throughout Heart of Darkness there are tones of gender prejudice, but the way that these three different authors perceive and interpret those gender tones are to a certain extent different. In Too Beautiful Altogether Smith points out that even though Heart of Darkness is an especially masculine account, femininity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To recognize ideological contradictions in Heart of Darkness, one needs to be on familiar terms with discourse. A discourse is a domain of language use (Belsey 5), a specific mode of speaking, writing, and thinking that includes certain shared assumptions (Smith 190). One example Smith gives of an ideology in Heart of Darkness is the ideology of gender or empire, written in the words feminine or savage. Johanna Smith gives many examples of Marlow s contradictions that his ideological discourse of empire and gender work to mystify. In Heart of Darkness the women are often silenced. Smith points out the example of the laundress: the company s chief accountant insists that she had to be taught to launder his clothes properly and that she had a strong disliking for the job. But you never truly hear her side of the story; Smith suggests Marlow s silencing of the laundress shows Marlow s authority as the masculine narrator of his story, to conceal not only her story but also those of the other silent women in Heart of Darkness (Smith 193). Marlow s Way of self asserting his dominating silence of the women is a clear example of Marlow s view towards women and is a key illustration of just how much Marlow believes he, as a male, is far more superior than a women. For a soul to have sensations, vegetation must be there as well. In other words, if sensation is a characteristic of the soul, its vegetative ability is added as well. The next capacity that can be developed is appetite, which is very much related to sensation. After the soul is able to feel, there is a rush of desires. Some desires go along with what we physically need like thirst and hunger and other desires that we do not need like emotions like anger. The next step is motion, which is movement from place to place and rest. As said before, in order to have this ability, it is essential to have the previous ones, building up on the soul. For motion to be possible, appetite, sensation and vegetation must also be there. The last level is understanding; which Aristotle thinks is the most unusual. • 17. Modern Funerals In The Modern Funeral The modern funeral is something that everybody experiences either through death of an acquaintance or by direct necessity to arrange a funeral yet so many people know so little about funerals and the industry behind it. This lack of knowledge is the main cause of consumer s issues with the modern funeral. Arranging a funeral is at least problematic and in most cases is a harrowing experience. This clearly indicates that fundamental problems exist in the funeral industry. The funeral should be a hallowed event but is one overshadowed by the depressing and stressful ordeal of arrangement. A majority of these issues could be resolved if the general public knew about funerals but unfortunately this knowledge is not common and has many affects on the consumer. The average consumer knows almost nothing about the average funeral in the United States, even the most common things, such as embalming. Embalming is a method of preserving a dead body. This is an oddly grotesque method is the standard in the United States. This indicates that this process has had the largest effect on the funeral industry and this is certainly true. Embalming is something that has formed the American funeral industry since its proliferation since the American Civil War. Natural Descriptions in Coleridge s and Lord Byron s Texts Works Cited Missing Two closely related texts, one that we ve studied in this class and one that we haven t, that handle natural description differently are Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Lord Byron s Manfred. Both of these texts central characters have experienced trauma, and their portrayal of their environments reveal the effects that the events have left on them. While Coleridge s mariner is unable to consolidate his past and is relegated to constantly relive it, Byron s Manfred has protected himself from his unnamed vice by distancing himself from his feelings and environment. Obvious parallels exist between the poems, but what I found most striking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This image accomplishes two things: 1) It tells the reader how he views himself, comparing himself to a thousand thousand slimy things (l 237). 2) And it shows how he views the outside world, as a corrupted, threatening environment. These descriptions reflect the events well enough to determine that the mariner is attempting to accurately relive/retell the events. While making it sound as if it s for the benefit of those that he s telling, the arbitrariness of selecting the audience and the ambiguity of the story s message discredit the mariner s suggestion and imply that the stories retelling is for the mariner s benefit. Again, Coleridge s mariner and Byron s Manfred share in their experiences of trauma but differ in their attempts to overcome it. The psychological analogy that working through trauma mirrors the habituation of an event can explain this difference. By repeatedly attempting to experience the trauma, the mariner tries to get use to his past to reconcile with his emotions. Manfred has successfully completed this process. The downfall with habituation is that you eventually become desensitized to that stimuli and therefore lose a connection with the environment, which is exactly Manfred s situation. Bird With The Crystal Plumage Dario Argento s Bird with the Crystal Plumage is a film about the relationship between art and violence which utilizes themes of spectacle and entrapment to illustrate how art serves as a distortionary medium which reflects and confuses concepts of gender, sexuality, and power. From the very onset of the film, Bird with the Crystal Plumage demonstrates artistry as a means of brutalization by depicting the camera as something voyeuristic and predatory. However, until recently, very little evidence existed to scientifically support this idea. In his article, This is How Literary Fiction Teaches Us to Be Human , author Tom Blunt makes a concise but persuasive argument about why literature is essential for human emotional development. In order to effectively prove his point, Blunt cites both scientific and anecdotal evidence and emphasizes the essential nature of empathy, derived from reading literature, to future generations. A sentinel occasion is characterized by Cherry and Jacob as a startling event that can cause genuine physical or psychologic damage or the danger thereof. (Cherry and Jacob, 2011, p. 444) The goal of a root cause analysisis to distinguish the components which brought on the sentinel occasion and to recognize imperfections in the framework which can be adjusted with a specific end goal to keep a rehash of the occasion later on. A root cause analysis is not used to accuse people, and is not relevant when the occasion is deliberate, or brought on by carelessness or a criminal demonstration. Root cause analysis concentrates on disappointments in the framework that can be remedied (Huber and Ogirnc, 2014). In this piece, Newton discusses the history and impact of Jell O, gelatin desert, in American foodways and pop culture since its establishment in 1897 (252). Without delay, Newton acquaints her intentions, as her thesis vows to use research to take readers on a cultural and historical journey or exotic byway as she calls it (249), into the fascinating tale of Jell O. Through that research, she is arguing the level or significance of Jell O in American foodways, as she believes this versatile invention has not received the respect in the foodways department that she thinks it deserves (249). Newton starts off by referencing the large frequency in which Jell O is used in American recipes. Newton defends these statements by pointing out the overwhelming usage of Jell O as an ingredient for salads and desserts in numerous American cookbooks (250). This is a questionable approach. Although it is understandable to reference American cookbooks for the frequency of usage of an ingredient, a few books is not a big enough sample of the thousands that exist. Also, not all American families own cookbooks or use them on a regular basis as a reference for cooking, nor is it guaranteed that they use any recipes in the book that incorporate Jell O. Lastly, Newton introduces Americans emotional bond to Jell O, emphasizing the fun that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the defenders are taken by surprise, it usually is because they ignored warnings or did not take them seriously. The New Era of Competition Ries and Trout argue that it is strategy and not hard work that determines success. In warfare, when a battle turns to hand to hand combat, the advantage resulting from the strategic plan no longer exists. In marketing, a firm achieves victory through a smarter strategy, not by spending longer hours with meetings, reports, memos, and management reviews. When management declares that it is time to redouble our efforts , then the marketing battle has turned to hand to hand combat and is likely to end in defeat. The Nature of the Battleground Ries and Trout argue that marketing battles do not take place in geographic areas, nor in stores. Rather, marketing battles take place in the mind of the consumer. In marketing, market research traditionally has served this function. The superego plays the angelic role in your psyche that tells you right from wrong. These little aspects of personality is what draws attention to your mate.
