The History of Bosnia
The history of Bosnia was full of violence, anger and war. Bosnia was once the epicenter of former
Yugoslavia. The state of Bosnia dates back to the Second Century and was quite different from current
Bosnia. Second Century Bosnia consisted of Latin speaking settlers from Roman Empire and they
were also Christians. (History of Bosnia and Herzegovina). The first ruler of Bosnia, in the high
middle ages, was Ban Boric. The second ruler was Ban Kulin and he ruled in the late 1100 s. Ban
Kulin was a well respected leader who ruled for three decades by keeping the peace and stability
within the state. He was able to strengthen the economy by signing treaties with Venice and
Dubrovnik. (History of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
After Kulin s ruling, Bosnia was taken over by Ottoman. Although Ottoman took Bosnia over, they
preserved the Bosnian identity within the culture. Ottoman ruled from 1463 1878. At this time, the
population was deeply affected because of frequent wars with European powers and there were high
rates of migration. Also at this time Islam was the largest ethnic group due to the high rise of
conversions to Islam. Due to the rise of Islam conversion, the population rate of Catholicism went
down. In 1875, the Ottoman Empire fell because of the Herzegovinian Rebellion and the uprising of
peasants. Because of these events and the Treaty of Berlin, the Ottomans were forced to give control
over to Austria Hungary. (History of Bosnia and

Analysis Of Piano And Snake
Piano and Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face
are based upon distinct and similar reasons, they want an escape to their present state. Piano and
Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are for
distinct and similar reasons; they want an escape to their present state. The interpretation received
when analyzing Piano was that the narrator himself was having a troublesome time because he aspired
something that was nostalgically unreachable for him, his childhood. What caused this inclination to
be unreachable was due to the time passing which resulted in him becoming an adult and conforming
to the constitutional systems. Snake s narrator s inner distress came from the need to break down the
structural voices and principles that educational systems had constructed upon him. Both narrators
have heavily built up emotions for the want of liberation from the prisons that confine them to the
structures meant for them; their desires although differing in context are similar in topic matter. There
are in fact differences in what they long for, but there is no doubt that they do desire something
different from what they presently have. Both Poems are faced with the problematic situation of inner
hassle. Piano s narrator struggles with his oppression of his emotions in sentimentality. When he is
listening to the sounds of the chant from the women singing he says In

Tony Zheng Accomplishments
I feel extremely fortunate to have known Tony Zheng throughout his high school career. Tony is a
talented and hard working young man, which is apparent from his involvement both in and outside of
school. His academic accomplishments throughout his high school career come from his ambitious
pursuit of learning. Motivation to reach the goals he continually sets for himself is always apparent.
Academically, Tony has proven his academic abilities throughout high school. His freshman year he
was challenged by a few honors courses, although this was tough, successfully completing the year
was not enough, he knew he could increase his rigor. Each year he continues to push himself
academically with the most challenging courses. Tony never complains,

Analysis Of Heaven s Emancipation, By Kate Borcherding
The artwork called Heaven s Emancipation created by Kate Borcherding. There was no information
that indicates the period of when the sculpture created. The medium of this artwork is mid fire clay,
oxidation, multiple fired, engobe, oxide mixes and the sculpture is in the round so it can be observed
from different angles.
The piece is a human head only with what look like a temple with a pointy top. The sculpture is from
the head to the neck and seems to be on four little wheels. The head has a hint of the color blue in it
especially around the collar of the outfit on the sculpture. The architectural on top of the head is the
color of the sand. The wheels appear to be the focus point of the sculpture because the artist used a

Dr. Cleamon Moorer Guides Me Through An Intimate Journey
Failure is perhaps one of the most influential things in people s lives because it can alter the course of
our actions, by teaching us persistence or leading us the opposite way. Through his book, Dr. Cleamon
Moorer guides me through an intimate journey about his progression from failure to promise.
Cleamon is from a small town of Detroit with parents, who love him and enforce discipline, but most
importantly, they nurture his faith in Jesus Christ. He excels in academics during both elementary and
middle school; however, his mischievousness throughout those years earns him many disciplinary
sessions. In high school, misbehavior becomes history, yet, his GPA suffers in the low C s. But with
his father s tough discipline and his own effort and faith in God, he later receives nomination for the
National Honor s Society. As his college experience begins, Cleamon Moorer attends GMI with
enthusiasm and works along many of his classmates at GM, but when the courses become more
difficult after each semester, his grades fall below the required minimum; hence, he becomes a flunk
out . Yet, he does not abandon his education; he does not surrender to the failure; in fact, he learns
from it. Then, with years of tenacity, patience, and faith, he ultimately becomes a professor at the same
university at which he had failed.
Throughout his book, From Failure to Promise 360 Degrees, Dr. Cleamon Moorer shares more than
twenty years of his life with the public. He stresses the importance of

Nuclear Warfare And Its Effects On The World
In early August 1945, President Harry Truman approved for two nuclear bombs, uranium 235 and
plutonium 239, made by the United States of America and the United Kingdom, to be dropped on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki bringing the Second World War to an abrupt end. On the first day of the
bombing, each city lost an estimate of at least one half of their population. During the following
months, between 150,000 and more than 246,000 deaths occurred from the effect of burns, radiation
sickness, and other injuries, compounded by illness brought on by the nuclear effects. This is act is
otherwise known as nuclear warfare and with the advancements of modern technology, the extent of

This is just one example of the many nuclear weapons in the world. Nuclear warfare is caused by a
military conflict or a political strategy in which one uses nuclear weaponry to inflict damage upon the
opponent. Some believe that politicians and military personnel only want to possess nuclear weapons
because of the heightened sense of power and feeling of security. It s scary to think that the human
race is in the hands of the people who own these weapons. The effects of nuclear use can be divided
into four categories: instantaneous, near immediate, short term, and long term. The heart of a nuclear
explosion reaches temperatures over a several million degree centigrade resulting in a heat flash over a
wide area that vaporizes all human tissue. At Hiroshima, within a radius of half a mile, the only
remains of most of the people caught in the open were their shadows burnt into stone. The near
immediate effects are the people inside buildings or otherwise shielded, will be indirectly killed by the
blast and heat effects as buildings collapse and all inflammable materials burst into flames. The
immediate death rate will be over 90%. Outside the area of total destruction will be survivors.
However, these survivors will be blinded, suffering from fatal burns, bleeding from glass splinters, or
have suffered massive internal injuries. The death rate will continue to climb since emergency services
would be incapable of responding due to destroyed equipment

Grace Short Story
Grace. A concept hard for many to grasp, yet alone to live by it daily. However, it seems to come easy
for Allison Grace Cobb. Piercing blue eyes, sandy hair and the most contagious smile. These attributes
are only surface deep, but there is one thing that runs through to her core. Called Gracie by her peers,
she radiates the beautiful concept of grace. There have been two definite experiences in her past that
seem to be the common thread in her life continually weaved by God s grace. The first and most
painful stitch occurred at the age of 10. Young Gracie witnessed her granddad, better known as Paw
Paw, take his last breath. He was one of my best friends. I loved him and went to see him all the time.
Paw Paw was diagnosed with cancer in January, and by the end of February he had passed away. I had
been warned, and I was with him almost every day as he got sick. You might expect someone in this
situation to experience anger and shock over this sudden death. This was not the case with Gracie. She
was blessed, for the first time, with God s grace. It [his death] gave me closure and made me grow up.
I feel like if I hadn t watched him take his last breath I wouldn t have handled it the way I did.
The second and almost equally life altering stitch began in middle school. For ... Show more content

past experiences, but also allowed me to do the same which created common ground. I too struggle
deeply with anxiety. Learning from Gracie s past, I have recently become more open about my
struggles with my family and close friends. Through doing this, I no longer feel isolated with my
anxieties; instead, it is a shared burden. Communication is wide open, and I know I can run to Gracie
with confidence that she will never turn me away. I, like many others, confide in her. Gracie, in return,

Oliver Vandal Essay
The person to create that distance in a family often makes more rational decisions, as they figure there
is nothing left going for them. Oliver Vandal is that family man that has over five kids, a minimum
wage job, an ill humored wife and a haunting past. Ever since Oliver almost hit his wife Sara Vandal
before Sara Vogt with his taxi, it was assumed that their marriage was going to be rough at times.
After the taxi encounter, being the gentleman he is, Oliver offered to drive Sara to her destination. As
they were talking Sara came to the realization that she enjoyed his company, how he treated her like
an intelligent woman and not a little girl, and how he carried himself as a person; respectable and open

East Of Eden Theme Essay
East of Eden was published in 1952 by renowned American author, John Steinbeck. Claimed by many
to be one of his greatest novels, this piece tells a story of tragedy spanning two generations of two
different families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons. Steinbeck himself grew up in the main setting of the
book, the Salinas Valley in California. He paints a beautiful picture of the valley, however it is stained
with the turmoil the book entails. Meanwhile many themes can be drawn from East of Eden, one of
the most notable ones is the battle of good versus evil. This theme is possibly the most interesting
because it is one of the only ones that carries on throughout the entirety of the book, and can be related
to almost any character. When we look at the dynamic character of Caleb Trask, or the opposition
between Abra and Cathy, or even the word timshel , it is clear that good steers the story, and is what
ultimately wins. One of the main plots of East of Eden that proves good wins is the dynamic change
Caleb Cal Trask goes through. From the very moment Cal is brought into the book he is destined to be
exactly like his uncle, Charles Trask, and he can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a novel that exemplifies what it means for good to win against evil. There are multiple reasons
that support this statement. Quite possibly the most notable being the dynamic character, Cal Trask,
proves that people truly can change and good can win with his drastic change from part one to part
three. Meanwhile Abra and Cathy s allusion to good versus evil is a more specific example that good
wins, or such a small word as timshel that can impact the theme so greatly. Thus, East of Eden can be
seen as a tragedy but all in all is a book that depicts the image of good winning in the face of evil.
Many years later, East of Eden remains to show generations that even in the saddest of stories, evil
doesn t always

The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship
A relationship provides refuge, love and trust between two partners but every relationship has flaws
that can permanently taint the two individuals and their bond. A major conflict that occurs in many
relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is
usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as
physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). However, there are many cases in
which women should stay in an abusive relationship rather than evade it because of contributing
factors that revolve around societal views. In the novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled

It is evident that Bobby comes back to kill Fran because he is aggravated that his wife left him with
his child and his hatred for her is apparent since he is on the brink of killing her which portrays his
malicious behaviour. Bobby is enraged and tries to murder her, which he failed to do, but that attempt
is exactly why leaving an abusive relationship is dangerous because the chances of survival for the
victim is very slim. To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents were reported to the police about
spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were females and more than half of these
women were killed after they had separated from their abusive partners. The pattern is that the most
dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes the decision to leave her abusive spouse
(The Facts About Violence Against Women). Fran is almost murdered by her abusive husband when
he confronts her after she escapes which demonstrates that women should not escape from the abusive
relationship because their lives are threatened by their abusers especially after they leave. In both of
the novels, the deadly experiences that the battered women face are when they are in the process of
leaving or after they leave. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, instead of the women being murdered,
Rasheed is murdered instead but Mariam

Global Economy Is Finally Stabilizing Following The Global...
The global economy is finally stabilizing following the global financial crisis and Great Recession.
Our base case outlook for average annual real growth between 2015 and 2020 is between 3 and 4
percent Lower global commodity prices are an important factor supporting stronger economic growth.
Although economies that are dependent on commodity exports may suffer, lower input prices for
industry as well as lower fuel prices for households will provide a boost to aggregate demand and
global growth. We expect emerging economies to continue to grow by more than 4 percent
(contributing $16.2 trillion to global growth through 2020 at market exchange rates), while the growth
rate of advanced economies is forecast to exceed 2 percent (contributing $13.5 trillion through 2020)
for the first time since 2010. The United States is leading the recovery among advanced markets, and
we expect the country to be a significant contributor to global growth through 2020. However, we
anticipate economic performance to continue to diverge within both the emerging and developed
market groupings based on key policy choices, as governments grapple with structural reforms in the
context of reduced fiscal and monetary stimulus. In this regard, strong leadership and bold
government actions will determine whether national economies can escape from the new mediocre of
stable but low growth. Australia resources industry (BHP) Australia has a rich haven of resources in
the oil, gas and energy industries.

The Nature Of Happiness By Daniel Gilbert
You may have guessed Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert is all about what makes people
happy, how to make people happy, and why people feel happy in certain situations. This assumption is
correct, but Gilbert digs much deeper than these three simple questions. He discusses the nature of
happiness and explains the many, many psychological illusions that alter our perception of happiness.
Gilbert focuses on why happiness is so difficult to measure and why many people have bias views
regarding happiness. After reading this book, I feel as if I have a more insightful view about the
human mind and how it works. Personally, I think the following quote by Gilbert sums up his book:
Our desire to control is so powerful, and the feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans can imagine the future and make plans for later, whereas animals can only make predictions
about the immediate future. We often look forward in time to reduce the impact of unpleasant
situations and to try to control and change our future. Gilbert goes on to describe what happiness is.
He says happiness is a subjective feeling , meaning it is impossible to compare two different
individuals level of happiness at a given time. When humans try to compare happiness they often
compare their happiness in the present with something they experienced in the past. Gilbert explains
that even when our minds compare two different things in the present we still tend to fail to notice
differences. Everyone has a blind spot of visual perception that we fill in with what we think should be
there. Gilbert compares this to our memory. Humans only store facts and feelings in our memory that
we believe are important, so when we look back at a certain memory we simply fill in the missing
details. In one of the studies Gilbert discusses, he describes how this filling in process happens when
we imagine the future as well. Our brains fill in details about future experiences, and we are unaware
this process is happening. We don t notice the important details we may be leaving out. Humans see
things that are closer to them with more complexity than those things that are far

Oppression Of The Catholic Religion
Many people might not have known that oppression is present in regard to religion. There have been
many times over the past decades were overt forms of oppression have been present when a dominant
religious group takes over a subordinated group. In a reading this week, Christian Privilege is talked
about. This type of privilege surprised me because I did not even know it existed. The reading talked
about how dominant religious would punish individuals who went against their religion and tried to
force others out so they would be on top. It is absurd to me that individuals would go to such great
lengths to make sure that people were following their religion and not another. A topic that really
enforced this type of oppression is the marginalization of the Catholic religion. I have never noticed
that unless you are in a public school, one never has off for holidays unless it is a Catholic holiday. It
is preposterous that some students need to be excused from school just to celebrate any over their
religious holidays. I could not believe that so much of our school system is centered on a Christian
denomination. This reading really helped open my eyes to the oppression that many religions have to
face (Blumenfeld, 2010). After looking over this article, something that bothered me is that our culture
is so focused on the Christian denomination that we never hear about any other religions. I went to
Catholic school all my life, so I never went against the societal norms. There

Mo Money, Mo Greed Corruption
The American dream: a spouse, a few children, a lucrative job, a nice home, and of course, some

If you follow financial news, then the name Tyco should also ring a bell. Tyco International s two top
executives have been accused of looting $600 million from the company s accounts. The CEO, Dennis
Kozlowski, squandered much of this money on excessive luxuries, like a $6,000 shower curtain for his
penthouse apartment. He also spent $2 million of Tyco s money on his wife s fortieth birthday party.
The party was on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia and featured fireworks, ice sculptures, flaming
messages in the sky, a private Jimmy Buffet concert, and many other extravagances. Kozlowski is
currently on trial in New York. The list of companies involved in this sort of corporate fraud is long,
and includes MCI/WorldCom, HealthSouth, and several other Fortune 500 firms.
The financial services industry people who work with these corrupt companies are also far from

Notable political events that occurred during the 1960s were the Vietnam War and the Cold War.
These events stirred conflict and a beginning of distrust and a questioning of authority when it came to
government in the 1960s. In the 1960s, the Cold War was intensifying around the world and the
United States started to solidify its policies regarding communism. As a result, America sided with the

Politics during the Renaissance and the ideals of the Medici family allowed more people access to

heterosexual is normal and how many believe that is the only way to live even if you are not

is not just one dimensional but there are so many parts to it that people are not aware of.
Being a heterosexual woman, I am stuck between an advantaged group and a disadvantaged group. I
am privileged for being heterosexual in the sense that I will never have to deal with the fear of
someone finding out who I love or expressing that love. I am a woman, so I am disadvantaged when it

Burns are an everyday occurrence in the New Zealand context. There is a considerable amount of
documentation outlining the causes and the effects on New Zealand society. This documentation
highlights a concern that children number highly in the statistics. What follows is a brief outline of the
incidence of burns in New Zealand and the pathological effects of burns on the human body in
general, followed by how attending emergency crew would deal with a burn victim.
______________________________________________________________________
The incidence pattern of burn injuries in the NZ context is presented in the Accident Compensation
Committees report of 2006 titled, Management of Burns and Scalds in Primary Care. It states burn
related accidents are primarily a result of accidents within the home. Of those incidents children under
the age of five are at the highest risk. A child of Maori ethnicity has an increased risk especially if they
are under five years. On average about 475 children under 15 years are admitted to hospital every

The Impact Of Charles Lindbergh Flight
There are many important accomlisments that have happened over the last 100 years such as Neil
Armstrong landing on the Moon, Jonas Salk creating the Polio Vaccine etc. I believe one of the more
overlooked accomplishments the last 100 years is Charles Lindbergh flying the first nonstop flight
from New York to Paris in 1927. Lindbergh was in the air for about 33 hours. This tells you how
transportation had evolved from the last 20 years prior with Wilbur and Orville Wright flying the first
plane in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. John Ward wrote a great piece on the impact of Charles
Lindbergh Flight in 1927. I believe this reading was showing the aviating industry in a positive light.
John Ward had this to say on page 6 7 Lindbergh gave

Old Spice Has A Storied History Essay
Introduction
Old Spice has a storied history as cologne that is favored by both men and women. During the 1970s
and 1980s, the brand relied heavily on nautical ocean scenes in their commercials and sex appeal.
However, after years of success, Old Spice became known as old guys cologne. By the early 1990s,
Old Spice s ability to survive and endure over the course of several decades became its downfall. Old
Spice had become an icon associated with old men. The younger generation of boys and men mostly
recognized Old Spice as something their fathers and grandfathers wore, which resulted in a lack of
interest for the product, (Neilly, 2014). Old Spice realized that their traditional nautical themed
advertising no longer appealed to their target audience of young men ages 12 34 so they decided to
rebrand.
Old Spice Man Television Commercials In 2010, Old Spice introduced their latest spokesman the Old
Spice Man.
With the NFL football player turned actor, Isaiah Mustafa, they created a series of commercials that
not only specifically addressed the ladies, but talked about what makes men manly. These
advertisements were so successful, they garnered record amounts of YouTube, (Neilly, 2014). The Old
Spice Man was someone that the target audience would recognize as a professional athlete and a
masculine icon. Another successful aspect of the Old Spice campaign is the fast paced filming styles.
The Old Spice guy recorded his video responses in rapid succession, an amazing

Psoriasis Benefits
Psoriasis is a poorly understood condition best known for its negative impact on the skin. Its best
known symptom is scaly, dry patches of itchy skin.
Many people seem to think this means it is merely a minor annoyance, not a serious medical
condition. This is not true. It is an autoimmune condition that impacts overall health, not just the skin.
Furthermore, the skin is the single largest organ of the human body. It plays serves a numbers critical
purposes, from protecting the body from infection to regulating temperature. Many people fail to
realize the importance of skin health to baseline health.
If you have a friend or relative with psoriasis or any other chronic medical condition, there are things
you can do to help them. They probably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, one of the most insidious problems of living with a chronic illness is the way it impacts social
relations.
People who mean well, but who simply have no idea of what they are going through, can be the bane
of their existence. This goes double if it is someone close to them. Don t be that guy.
2. Be passively supportive
When someone you care about is suffering, your first impulse can be to do something about it. You
want to help. You want them to stop suffering.
But, when there is no cure, the patient may try all the things there are to try and still be symptomatic.
The odds are very good that your friend already knows all the tricks and tips. They already tried that
thing you just read about. They also have had fifty other people suggest it to them, possibly this week
alone.
Yes, dietary changes and various supplements, such as cod liver oil, vitamin D supplements and
primrose oil, help some people with psoriasis. But, it doesn t work for everyone. Even when it does
work, it isn t a cure.
You are probably not the first friend of theirs to read an article and get all excited because you think
you can help them. Hearing dozens of times a week about the latest miracle cure gets exhausting and

Hammurabi Continuity
The Age of Hammurabi left a profound impression on the history of Mesopotamia and the evolution
of this civilisation. The babylonian king helped to unify disparate smaller kingdoms, intiating an age
of territorial rather than city states. Hammurabi made the city of Babylon one of regional significance,
after his death it would remain a religious centre until the first century AD. He created a more
centralised administration concerntrating more power within the palace and taking power away from
the temples. Hammurabi was particularly renowned for being a just king. His law code would be
copied and used as a model for justice for hundreds of years to follow. The babylonian king was also
unusually personally involved in his legal system, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Southern Mesopotamia and Sumeria previously had deified their kings but Hammurabi brought this to
an end. As an alternate way of legitimising his reign Hammurabi drew attention to his royal ancestry
in a similar manner to the kin based structures of the Amorite kingship (Liverani pp250). Some
aspects of the royal ideology remained the same. For example earlier kings had also portrayed
themselves as devoted shepherds who brought justice to their lands and Hammurabi maintained this
practice. The population was as a helpless flock and it was the king s responsibility to help them
prosper. This is evident in the introduction to his law code in which the king claimed, I am the good
shepherd, selected by Enlil (Mieroop 2005 pp82). With agricultre so vital for soceity in the south,
maintenance of farmland was an integral role for any king. Hammurabi alloted land to farmers in two
main ways. He either rented out land for an annual fee or assigned portions to people in reward for
services to the palace (Mieroop 005, pp.85). With very little rainfaill in the south, farming required the
digging of irrigation canals. This is evident in an inscription celebrating the construction of the canal
called Hammurabi is the abundance of the people which says that he shepherded the people of Sumer
and Akkad, giving them pastures, watering places and peaceful homes (Mieroop, 2005 pp.82). One
factor that is generally accepted by archaeologists to have contributed to the decilne of the Old
Babylonian period, is over irrigation. The numerous canals helped to raise the water table and
therefore salinity levels, decreasing the soil s fertility (Liverani, 2013). In addition to helping his
people prosper the Babylonian king also helped to maintain law and order. This is reflected in the
famous code of Hammurabi which described how to deal with issues of murder, theft, professional
negligence,

In June 1776, the Continental Congress authorizes issuance of the $2 denominations in bills of credit
for the defense of America. When the world newest nation coins were introduced, there was a few
years of transitional period before foreign coins were officially no longer recognized as legal tender.
The U.S. was experiencing a shortage of silver and gold; both vital at the time for coin production.
The alternative to get around the shortage for government to declare Spanish coins would indefinitely
be legally recognized even though it was a foreign currency. By the mid 1800s, the Californian Gold
Rush produced a swift influx of gold, allowing the Spanish coin to be revoked. The U.S. Mint released
the Sacagawea dollar coin to commemorate a native woman by the same name. Historically popular,
Sacagawea had joined Lewis and Clark on their expedition as their guide. Together they explored

Lightning Thief Themes
The first book of Percy Jackson and The Olympians series is called The Lightning Thief. I chose this
book due to its several themes that are unique. The Lightning Thief has several different themes such
as discovering identity, family, and versions of reality. There are plenty of more themes in the book,
but those are the most important ones. The first theme in The Lightning Thief is discovering identity.
The main character, Percy, is left with barely any knowledge of his father, and is sent from one
boarding school to another. He is stuck believing that he is unwanted, and that he is stupid because of
his dyslexia. On a field trip, Percy discovers that his math teacher isn t what she seems and is actually
out to kill him, and his Greek professor isn t at all a human. Percy then discovers that he is a demigod
and is actually the son of the Greek god Poseidon. After learning this, Percy realizes that he is a hero
who will save the world. Percy goes from an average troubled teen to a hero within a numbered
amount of days and he discovers his true identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his mother. Although Percy doesn t have a lot of real family, he meets a lot of friends who become like

Accuracy of results
There is always some degree of inaccuracy in any experiment. I think that there were several factors in
my experiment that made the results slightly inaccurate. These were;
#61623; The time taken to place the bung on the flask – This let out a small amount of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere instead of the gas syringe.
#61623; Weighing and measuring inaccuracy s – The weighing of the marble chips will always be
slightly inaccurate due to the scales inaccuracy. This is the same with the measuring of acid.
#61623; The size of the marble chips – The size of the marble chips was not always the same, some
were larger or smaller than others. This would have made for a slight inaccuracy.
Reliability
No significant problems or difficulties were encountered when carrying out this experiment. The
accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions are very good. Even though I have outlined the
inaccuracy s of the experiment, these are only t be expected and do not have much impact on the
overall conclusion.
Improvements
The procedure used was simple and straightforward and not many difficulties were encountered. One
difficulty was that the gas syringe was subject to humidity which made the syringe move not as
smoothly as it would have otherwise. A small improvement could be

Understanding The Neurological Complexity Of The Human Brain
In order to better understand the neurological complexity of the human brain, it is reasonable to first
compare it to a similar organ, and according to Professor David Anderson, that is a fruit fly s brain. As
a neurological researcher at the Caltech David Anderson Lab, Professor Anderson claims that the
human brain is much more complex than thought, but with the help of fruit fly experimentation,
understanding the human brain is made simple. As guest speaker at the TED Conference, Anderson
informs his audience of a common misconception with the human brain, a misconception he intends to
disprove by using evidence from his fruit fly experimentations. David Anderson explains how fruit fly
research is the missing link that will help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opening up his lecture, Professor Anderson immediately harnessed the crowds curiosity through his
questions requiring crowd participation. He first asked the crowd to raise their hand if they had any
family history of mental illnesses. Most of the attending listeners responded to his inquiry with their
hands raised high, signaling Anderson to ask his next question. Secondly, Anderson asked if anyone
could agree that fruit fly research would help further the understanding of mental illnesses and if so,
they should keep their hand raised. Naturally, in response to his second question, the audiences hands
went back down. The humorous contrast in the crowds response resulted in laughter within the
audience, which allowed Anderson to smoothly transition to his next point. He continued to use
rhetorical questioning throughout his speech as seen when he asked, Can an organism like this teach
us anything about emotion like states? Do these organisms even have emotion like states or are they
just little digital robots? (00:04:55). Comparing living fruit flies to inanimate robots is silly and not
realistic; this obvious answer made clear to his listeners that there is a high chance that fruit fly
research could benefit the understanding of the human mind. In continuation, Anderson used
comparison and contrast to help explain his research and support his claim. Anderson first compared

How Are Literary Devices Used In The Black Cat
The use of literary device is a vital part to Edgar Allan Poe s stories. They help show the meaning of
the short story and give information that is important to the narrative. Without any literary device it
will leave readers confused and wondering why certain things occurred. The Black Cat is a perfect
example of the use of literary device. Black cats have long been considered a symbol of bad luck, and
naming his story as such is a perfect example of literary devices. In The Black Cat, Edgar Allan Poe
uses point of view, imagery, and conflict to explain the human nature to act on impulse.

Analysis Of The Count Of Monte Cristo Quotes
The Count of Monte Cristo Quotes Dumas, Alexandre. The Count of Monte Cristo. Trans. Lowell
Bair. New York: Bantam Edition, 1956. Print. 1. Villefort started in spite of himself. The coincidence
shook his usual impassivity and struck a chord of sympathy in the depths of his soul. He, too, was
about to be married; and he had now been called upon to destroy the joy of a man who, like himself,
was on the point of attaining his supreme happiness (Dumas 25). In this quote, Villefort finds out that
Dante s is about to get married and starts to actually feel sorry for the man because he himself was
also about to get married. I chose this quote because I think it symbolizes that even though Villefort is
mainly an antagonist he still has good aspects to him as well. 2 I regret now, said he, having helped
you In your late inquiries, or having given you the information I did. Why so? inquired Dantès.
Because it has instilled a new passion in your heart that of vengeance (Dumas 58). In this quote, the
author is showing how Dante s finally learns about how he has gotten mistreated throughout the whole
prison affair. I chose this quote because it shows the how gullible and trusting Dante s was as a person
and how it quickly changed into a fury that would not be extinguished. 3. A sad smile passed over his

An Analysis Of Okonkwo s Things Fall Apart
In Things Fall Apart the novel, Okonkwo was determined to be nothing like his father Unoka, this
strict adherence to masculine standards, (which causes the destruction of his family, creates dissent in
his tribe, and leads him to his death) supports the value of the feminine in Igbo culture. Though it may
seem that women are seen as the weaker sex in Ibgo society, (E., Skwiot personal comment, August
23, 2016) The novel is set at the end of the twentieth century. It describes in detail about life in an
African culture very different from Western culture. Okonkwo brought honor to his village by
wrestling and putting down Amalinze the Cat, a man that was undefeated for his wrestling throughout
all nine villages of Umuofia. He was quick tempered, he did not like dealing with unproductive men
like his father, who died very much in debt (Achebe, 1994). However, because of Unoka s laziness
and carelessness, the village had thought of him as a failure and a fool; he was a constant reminder to
Okonkwo of how lazy he was. Although, Unoka had a family to support, he was constantly borrowing
money and them wasting it on Palm wine and celebrating with his neighbors, while his family, done
without food to eat. Unoka thought nothing of his responsibilities, his priority was living his life to the
fullest. He played the flute very well, he was happy and serene while playing his flute, his music had
sounds of grief and sorrows (CliffsNotes, 2016). Unoka never took a title because of

  • 2. The History of Bosnia The history of Bosnia was full of violence, anger and war. Bosnia was once the epicenter of former Yugoslavia. The state of Bosnia dates back to the Second Century and was quite different from current Bosnia. Second Century Bosnia consisted of Latin speaking settlers from Roman Empire and they were also Christians. (History of Bosnia and Herzegovina). The first ruler of Bosnia, in the high middle ages, was Ban Boric. The second ruler was Ban Kulin and he ruled in the late 1100 s. Ban Kulin was a well respected leader who ruled for three decades by keeping the peace and stability within the state. He was able to strengthen the economy by signing treaties with Venice and Dubrovnik. (History of Bosnia and Herzegovina) After Kulin s ruling, Bosnia was taken over by Ottoman. Although Ottoman took Bosnia over, they preserved the Bosnian identity within the culture. Ottoman ruled from 1463 1878. At this time, the population was deeply affected because of frequent wars with European powers and there were high rates of migration. Also at this time Islam was the largest ethnic group due to the high rise of conversions to Islam. Due to the rise of Islam conversion, the population rate of Catholicism went down. In 1875, the Ottoman Empire fell because of the Herzegovinian Rebellion and the uprising of peasants. Because of these events and the Treaty of Berlin, the Ottomans were forced to give control over to Austria Hungary. (History of Bosnia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Piano And Snake Piano and Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are based upon distinct and similar reasons, they want an escape to their present state. Piano and Snake in D.H Lawrence s representations express an inner conflict; the troubles they face are for distinct and similar reasons; they want an escape to their present state. The interpretation received when analyzing Piano was that the narrator himself was having a troublesome time because he aspired something that was nostalgically unreachable for him, his childhood. What caused this inclination to be unreachable was due to the time passing which resulted in him becoming an adult and conforming to the constitutional systems. Snake s narrator s inner distress came from the need to break down the structural voices and principles that educational systems had constructed upon him. Both narrators have heavily built up emotions for the want of liberation from the prisons that confine them to the structures meant for them; their desires although differing in context are similar in topic matter. There are in fact differences in what they long for, but there is no doubt that they do desire something different from what they presently have. Both Poems are faced with the problematic situation of inner hassle. Piano s narrator struggles with his oppression of his emotions in sentimentality. When he is listening to the sounds of the chant from the women singing he says In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was no information that indicates the period of when the sculpture created. The medium of this artwork is mid fire clay, oxidation, multiple fired, engobe, oxide mixes and the sculpture is in the round so it can be observed from different angles. The piece is a human head only with what look like a temple with a pointy top. The sculpture is from the head to the neck and seems to be on four little wheels. The head has a hint of the color blue in it especially around the collar of the outfit on the sculpture. The architectural on top of the head is the color of the sand. • 6. Dr. Cleamon Moorer Guides Me Through An Intimate Journey Failure is perhaps one of the most influential things in people s lives because it can alter the course of our actions, by teaching us persistence or leading us the opposite way. Through his book, Dr. Cleamon Moorer guides me through an intimate journey about his progression from failure to promise. Cleamon is from a small town of Detroit with parents, who love him and enforce discipline, but most importantly, they nurture his faith in Jesus Christ. He excels in academics during both elementary and middle school; however, his mischievousness throughout those years earns him many disciplinary sessions. In high school, misbehavior becomes history, yet, his GPA suffers in the low C s. But with his father s tough discipline and his own effort and faith in God, he later receives nomination for the National Honor s Society. As his college experience begins, Cleamon Moorer attends GMI with enthusiasm and works along many of his classmates at GM, but when the courses become more difficult after each semester, his grades fall below the required minimum; hence, he becomes a flunk out . Yet, he does not abandon his education; he does not surrender to the failure; in fact, he learns from it. Then, with years of tenacity, patience, and faith, he ultimately becomes a professor at the same university at which he had failed. Throughout his book, From Failure to Promise 360 Degrees, Dr. Cleamon Moorer shares more than twenty years of his life with the public. He stresses the importance of ... • 7. Nuclear Warfare And Its Effects On The World In early August 1945, President Harry Truman approved for two nuclear bombs, uranium 235 and plutonium 239, made by the United States of America and the United Kingdom, to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki bringing the Second World War to an abrupt end. On the first day of the bombing, each city lost an estimate of at least one half of their population. During the following months, between 150,000 and more than 246,000 deaths occurred from the effect of burns, radiation sickness, and other injuries, compounded by illness brought on by the nuclear effects. This is act is otherwise known as nuclear warfare and with the advancements of modern technology, the extent of damage is increased while the amount of time it takes for these effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is just one example of the many nuclear weapons in the world. Nuclear warfare is caused by a military conflict or a political strategy in which one uses nuclear weaponry to inflict damage upon the opponent. Some believe that politicians and military personnel only want to possess nuclear weapons because of the heightened sense of power and feeling of security. It s scary to think that the human race is in the hands of the people who own these weapons. The effects of nuclear use can be divided into four categories: instantaneous, near immediate, short term, and long term. The heart of a nuclear explosion reaches temperatures over a several million degree centigrade resulting in a heat flash over a wide area that vaporizes all human tissue. At Hiroshima, within a radius of half a mile, the only remains of most of the people caught in the open were their shadows burnt into stone. The near immediate effects are the people inside buildings or otherwise shielded, will be indirectly killed by the blast and heat effects as buildings collapse and all inflammable materials burst into flames. The immediate death rate will be over 90%. Outside the area of total destruction will be survivors. However, these survivors will be blinded, suffering from fatal burns, bleeding from glass splinters, or have suffered massive internal injuries. The death rate will continue to climb since emergency services would be incapable of responding due to destroyed equipment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Grace Short Story Grace. A concept hard for many to grasp, yet alone to live by it daily. However, it seems to come easy for Allison Grace Cobb. Piercing blue eyes, sandy hair and the most contagious smile. These attributes are only surface deep, but there is one thing that runs through to her core. Called Gracie by her peers, she radiates the beautiful concept of grace. There have been two definite experiences in her past that seem to be the common thread in her life continually weaved by God s grace. The first and most painful stitch occurred at the age of 10. Young Gracie witnessed her granddad, better known as Paw Paw, take his last breath. He was one of my best friends. I loved him and went to see him all the time. Paw Paw was diagnosed with cancer in January, and by the end of February he had passed away. I had been warned, and I was with him almost every day as he got sick. You might expect someone in this situation to experience anger and shock over this sudden death. This was not the case with Gracie. She was blessed, for the first time, with God s grace. It [his death] gave me closure and made me grow up. I feel like if I hadn t watched him take his last breath I wouldn t have handled it the way I did. The second and almost equally life altering stitch began in middle school. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was that person who Gracie impacted. Through our friendship she has not only opened up about her past experiences, but also allowed me to do the same which created common ground. I too struggle deeply with anxiety. Learning from Gracie s past, I have recently become more open about my struggles with my family and close friends. Through doing this, I no longer feel isolated with my anxieties; instead, it is a shared burden. Communication is wide open, and I know I can run to Gracie with confidence that she will never turn me away. I, like many others, confide in her. Ever since Oliver almost hit his wife Sara Vandal before Sara Vogt with his taxi, it was assumed that their marriage was going to be rough at times. After the taxi encounter, being the gentleman he is, Oliver offered to drive Sara to her destination. • 10. East Of Eden Theme Essay East of Eden was published in 1952 by renowned American author, John Steinbeck. Claimed by many to be one of his greatest novels, this piece tells a story of tragedy spanning two generations of two different families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons. Steinbeck himself grew up in the main setting of the book, the Salinas Valley in California. He paints a beautiful picture of the valley, however it is stained with the turmoil the book entails. Meanwhile many themes can be drawn from East of Eden, one of the most notable ones is the battle of good versus evil. This theme is possibly the most interesting because it is one of the only ones that carries on throughout the entirety of the book, and can be related to almost any character. When we look at the dynamic character of Caleb Trask, or the opposition between Abra and Cathy, or even the word timshel , it is clear that good steers the story, and is what ultimately wins. One of the main plots of East of Eden that proves good wins is the dynamic change Caleb Cal Trask goes through. From the very moment Cal is brought into the book he is destined to be exactly like his uncle, Charles Trask, and he can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a novel that exemplifies what it means for good to win against evil. There are multiple reasons that support this statement. Quite possibly the most notable being the dynamic character, Cal Trask, proves that people truly can change and good can win with his drastic change from part one to part three. Meanwhile Abra and Cathy s allusion to good versus evil is a more specific example that good wins, or such a small word as timshel that can impact the theme so greatly. Thus, East of Eden can be seen as a tragedy but all in all is a book that depicts the image of good winning in the face of evil. Many years later, East of Eden remains to show generations that even in the saddest of stories, evil doesn t always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship The Adversities of Evading an Abusive Relationship A relationship provides refuge, love and trust between two partners but every relationship has flaws that can permanently taint the two individuals and their bond. A major conflict that occurs in many relationships is domestic abuse. It is the control that a partner in an intimate relationship, who is usually the male in a heterosexual relationship, tries to exert on the female with methods such as physical, verbal and sexual abuse (Domestic Violence and Abuse). However, there are many cases in which women should stay in an abusive relationship rather than evade it because of contributing factors that revolve around societal views. Bobby is enraged and tries to murder her, which he failed to do, but that attempt is exactly why leaving an abusive relationship is dangerous because the chances of survival for the victim is very slim. To support this, in 2011, eighty nine incidents were reported to the police about spousal homicides and at least seventy six of those victims were females and more than half of these women were killed after they had separated from their abusive partners. The pattern is that the most dangerous point in a battered woman s life is when she takes the decision to leave her abusive spouse (The Facts About Violence Against Women). Fran is almost murdered by her abusive husband when he confronts her after she escapes which demonstrates that women should not escape from the abusive relationship because their lives are threatened by their abusers especially after they leave. In both of the novels, the deadly experiences that the battered women face are when they are in the process of leaving or after they leave. Our base case outlook for average annual real growth between 2015 and 2020 is between 3 and 4 percent Lower global commodity prices are an important factor supporting stronger economic growth. Although economies that are dependent on commodity exports may suffer, lower input prices for industry as well as lower fuel prices for households will provide a boost to aggregate demand and global growth. We expect emerging economies to continue to grow by more than 4 percent (contributing $16.2 trillion to global growth through 2020 at market exchange rates), while the growth rate of advanced economies is forecast to exceed 2 percent (contributing $13.5 trillion through 2020) for the first time since 2010. The United States is leading the recovery among advanced markets, and we expect the country to be a significant contributor to global growth through 2020. However, we anticipate economic performance to continue to diverge within both the emerging and developed market groupings based on key policy choices, as governments grapple with structural reforms in the context of reduced fiscal and monetary stimulus. • 15. The Nature Of Happiness By Daniel Gilbert You may have guessed Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert is all about what makes people happy, how to make people happy, and why people feel happy in certain situations. This assumption is correct, but Gilbert digs much deeper than these three simple questions. He discusses the nature of happiness and explains the many, many psychological illusions that alter our perception of happiness. Gilbert focuses on why happiness is so difficult to measure and why many people have bias views regarding happiness. After reading this book, I feel as if I have a more insightful view about the human mind and how it works. Humans can imagine the future and make plans for later, whereas animals can only make predictions about the immediate future. He says happiness is a subjective feeling , meaning it is impossible to compare two different individuals level of happiness at a given time. When humans try to compare happiness they often compare their happiness in the present with something they experienced in the past. Gilbert explains that even when our minds compare two different things in the present we still tend to fail to notice differences. Everyone has a blind spot of visual perception that we fill in with what we think should be there. Gilbert compares this to our memory. Humans only store facts and feelings in our memory that we believe are important, so when we look back at a certain memory we simply fill in the missing details. In one of the studies Gilbert discusses, he describes how this filling in process happens when we imagine the future as well. Our brains fill in details about future experiences, and we are unaware this process is happening. We don t notice the important details we may be leaving out. There have been many times over the past decades were overt forms of oppression have been present when a dominant religious group takes over a subordinated group. In a reading this week, Christian Privilege is talked about. This type of privilege surprised me because I did not even know it existed. The reading talked about how dominant religious would punish individuals who went against their religion and tried to force others out so they would be on top. It is absurd to me that individuals would go to such great lengths to make sure that people were following their religion and not another. A topic that really enforced this type of oppression is the marginalization of the Catholic religion. I have never noticed that unless you are in a public school, one never has off for holidays unless it is a Catholic holiday. It is preposterous that some students need to be excused from school just to celebrate any over their religious holidays. I could not believe that so much of our school system is centered on a Christian denomination. This reading really helped open my eyes to the oppression that many religions have to face (Blumenfeld, 2010). During the 1970s and 1980s, the brand relied heavily on nautical ocean scenes in their commercials and sex appeal. However, after years of success, Old Spice became known as old guys cologne. By the early 1990s, Old Spice s ability to survive and endure over the course of several decades became its downfall. Old Spice had become an icon associated with old men. The younger generation of boys and men mostly recognized Old Spice as something their fathers and grandfathers wore, which resulted in a lack of interest for the product, (Neilly, 2014). Old Spice realized that their traditional nautical themed advertising no longer appealed to their target audience of young men ages 12 34 so they decided to rebrand. As an alternate way of legitimising his reign Hammurabi drew attention to his royal ancestry in a similar manner to the kin based structures of the Amorite kingship (Liverani pp250). Some aspects of the royal ideology remained the same. For example earlier kings had also portrayed themselves as devoted shepherds who brought justice to their lands and Hammurabi maintained this practice. The population was as a helpless flock and it was the king s responsibility to help them prosper. This is evident in the introduction to his law code in which the king claimed, I am the good shepherd, selected by Enlil (Mieroop 2005 pp82). With agricultre so vital for soceity in the south, maintenance of farmland was an integral role for any king. Hammurabi alloted land to farmers in two main ways. He either rented out land for an annual fee or assigned portions to people in reward for services to the palace (Mieroop 005, pp.85). With very little rainfaill in the south, farming required the digging of irrigation canals. This is evident in an inscription celebrating the construction of the canal called Hammurabi is the abundance of the people which says that he shepherded the people of Sumer and Akkad, giving them pastures, watering places and peaceful homes (Mieroop, 2005 pp.82). One factor that is generally accepted by archaeologists to have contributed to the decilne of the Old Babylonian period, is over irrigation. The numerous canals helped to raise the water table and therefore salinity levels, decreasing the soil s fertility (Liverani, 2013). In addition to helping his people prosper the Babylonian king also helped to maintain law and order. These were; #61623; The time taken to place the bung on the flask – This let out a small amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere instead of the gas syringe. #61623; Weighing and measuring inaccuracy s – The weighing of the marble chips will always be slightly inaccurate due to the scales inaccuracy. This is the same with the measuring of acid. #61623; The size of the marble chips – The size of the marble chips was not always the same, some were larger or smaller than others. This would have made for a slight inaccuracy. Reliability No significant problems or difficulties were encountered when carrying out this experiment. The accuracy and reliability of the results and conclusions are very good. Even though I have outlined the inaccuracy s of the experiment, these are only t be expected and do not have much impact on the overall conclusion. Improvements The procedure used was simple and straightforward and not many difficulties were encountered. One difficulty was that the gas syringe was subject to humidity which made the syringe move not as smoothly as it would have otherwise. A small improvement could be ... • 33. Understanding The Neurological Complexity Of The Human Brain In order to better understand the neurological complexity of the human brain, it is reasonable to first compare it to a similar organ, and according to Professor David Anderson, that is a fruit fly s brain. As a neurological researcher at the Caltech David Anderson Lab, Professor Anderson claims that the human brain is much more complex than thought, but with the help of fruit fly experimentation, understanding the human brain is made simple. As guest speaker at the TED Conference, Anderson informs his audience of a common misconception with the human brain, a misconception he intends to disprove by using evidence from his fruit fly experimentations. David Anderson explains how fruit fly research is the missing link that will help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Opening up his lecture, Professor Anderson immediately harnessed the crowds curiosity through his questions requiring crowd participation. He first asked the crowd to raise their hand if they had any family history of mental illnesses. Most of the attending listeners responded to his inquiry with their hands raised high, signaling Anderson to ask his next question. Secondly, Anderson asked if anyone could agree that fruit fly research would help further the understanding of mental illnesses and if so, they should keep their hand raised. Naturally, in response to his second question, the audiences hands went back down. The humorous contrast in the crowds response resulted in laughter within the audience, which allowed Anderson to smoothly transition to his next point. He continued to use rhetorical questioning throughout his speech as seen when he asked, Can an organism like this teach us anything about emotion like states? Do these organisms even have emotion like states or are they just little digital robots? (00:04:55). Comparing living fruit flies to inanimate robots is silly and not realistic; this obvious answer made clear to his listeners that there is a high chance that fruit fly research could benefit the understanding of the human mind. In continuation, Anderson used comparison and contrast to help explain his research and support his claim. Anderson first compared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Analysis Of The Count Of Monte Cristo Quotes The Count of Monte Cristo Quotes Dumas, Alexandre. The Count of Monte Cristo. Trans. Lowell Bair. New York: Bantam Edition, 1956. Print. 1. Villefort started in spite of himself. The coincidence shook his usual impassivity and struck a chord of sympathy in the depths of his soul. He, too, was about to be married; and he had now been called upon to destroy the joy of a man who, like himself, was on the point of attaining his supreme happiness (Dumas 25). In this quote, Villefort finds out that Dante s is about to get married and starts to actually feel sorry for the man because he himself was also about to get married. I chose this quote because I think it symbolizes that even though Villefort is mainly an antagonist he still has good aspects to him as well. 2 I regret now, said he, having helped you In your late inquiries, or having given you the information I did. Why so? inquired Dantès. Because it has instilled a new passion in your heart that of vengeance (Dumas 58). In this quote, the author is showing how Dante s finally learns about how he has gotten mistreated throughout the whole prison affair. I chose this quote because it shows the how gullible and trusting Dante s was as a person and how it quickly changed into a fury that would not be extinguished. 3. Though it may seem that women are seen as the weaker sex in Ibgo society, (E., Skwiot personal comment, August 23, 2016) The novel is set at the end of the twentieth century.
