My Volunteering Experience At Children s Hospital Colorado
Throughout the years I feel that I ve had a number of valuable experiences, my most significant
experience is my volunteering experience at Children s Hospital Colorado. I still remember feeling
utterly terrified on my first day volunteering, pondering all the possible ways things could go wrong. I
suddenly felt as though I have never experienced this before. I was on my own, responsible for myself
and all of my actions.
On my first day volunteering, I found myself doing deliveries on the sterile patient floors. There was a
type of silence that made me nervous. I couldn t hear a word of casual chatter, or people carelessly
laughing. It felt completely different from what I was used to hearing on a day to day bases.
I went on my search to find the room that I was delivering the gift to, while following all the rules that
were established at my orientation. At the time, the task seemed odd, I didn t expect it to be something
I would be doing when I started out. Everything seemed new, and different, it allowed me to view
thing that differed from the protected scope I looked through my entire life. Reality was right in front
of me, this was the reality of so many people, and it was something that I had never had to experience.

The experience taught me to work hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor and helping as many
people as I can. It taught me not to waste my time. All of my dedication has pushed me to be the best
person I can be so in the future I can feel confident about all of my choices. Volunteering at Children s
Hospital offered me an experience that pushed me to strive for no less than excellence. By
volunteering, I watched my dreams and ambitions get closer, and although the process is a slow and
difficult one, every second of it was worth it because I was able to watch everything I value become

Dramatic Monologue
Sweetie? Where are you going? I heard my mother s faint voice call out from the kitchen. I was
standing at the front door, halfway through opening it when I heard her voice. It was Oli s, my best
friend s, birthday and her, Angelo, and Dante, were going to Las Vegas to spend her special weekend.
Although I ve told and reminded my mom of me leaving over ten times, she is incredibly forgetful.
Mom, I ve already told you. I m going out for the weekend, I responded, yelling but my voice
monotone. Okay, sweetie, I ll probably be here when you get home. Okay, mom. Love you, I quietly
responded, already out of the door and heading to my car.
My mother never liked any of the friends that I ve ever made. She always said that they were bad
influences. She especially doesn t like Oli. What kind of a name is Oli ? She retorts, or She s too old.
How many times has she been held back? My mother scoffs. She says ridiculous things sometimes,

Dante, you scared me. Could have gotten into a car crash, but thank god nobody s here. My response
makes everybody look around at the openly deserted road. It s just like what you would see out of any
horror movie. No cars, no signs, trees almost making up a forest, but not quite surrounding every part
of it. I can tell that, like I am, they re all slightly freaked out about it. Hey, Cade, could you start up the

When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the
revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business
people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border towns all had some appeal to these
persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route
to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany
had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be
relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in
these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the
Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on
their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an
extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the
Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren t able to move through these areas.
Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. The Canal also was a much
cheaper source of transportation that was used by residents, tourists, emigrants, and workers during
this time. Evangelical preachers used the artificial

Responsible Software Engineering Personal Statement
I am a college graduate in Computer Science aspiring to pursue masters, specializing in Human
Computer Interaction. During my final year in college, I worked on a project to identify large scale
threats to public life by classifying RSS news feeds. Since we had to narrow down the genre to
identify events like accidents and disasters, we applied NLP techniques before applying typical
classification methods like SVM. We did tokenization, Part of Speech tagging, subject verb relation
and sentiment scoring of the verbs to understand more about the nature and gravity of news. This
project gave me a glimpse of what research can entail and taught me the importance of rigour in
research, whether it is achieved through trying and evaluating ... Show more content on

I found it extremely satisfying to bring together an interface with functionality. Eager to delve in, I
took part in discussions regarding mock ups and the user experience it provided. I took an online
course, Introduction to User Experience Design offered by Georgia Tech that explained the basic cycle
gather requirements, come up with alternative designs, prototype and evaluate it. It fit well with the
agile way in which my team works we develop our interfaces in an iterative manner, going back to
improve experience based on user feedback. I also ventured into developing a mobile application in a
domain that piques my interest environmental issues. This application takes inputs and calculates
carbon footprint. On my own evaluation of the way I was designing it, I was sure it would be
cumbersome for the user since the application required entering a lot of data. How do we innovate to
make an interaction click? The new game Pokemon was successful because of its augmented reality
technology and it encouraged people to explore the real world. I think it reflects the immense
opportunity that rests with HCI to influence people and the responsibility it bears in doing so. More
than continuing my work which may limit my scope to applications in a particular domain or an
interface, obtaining graduate education will push boundaries and allow me to explore. I decided I

Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit stream signal to
control a system. It contains the initial design process and simulations of a bit stream based PID
controller to control and stabilize the output of a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the
discrete time domain. Processing The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the
potential performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in
continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results.

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management System
Abstract:
There are many restrictions on the write and read operations in database management system. These
restrictions show the measurable effect on the each and every transaction in the database management
system and which are due to some specific operations. The transactions are not only read that data
from database all the time but sometime some transaction need to delete the data items from database
and create the data items into database. Such type of transactions show high impact on concurrency
control. So, we are analyzing how those transaction bias the concurrency control in database
management system.
Introduction:
The basic problem of concurrency control is sharing the data in database at a time by many numbers
of users. Due to many users accessing data at a time which causes to produce the undesirable output or
system failure even the transaction is correct. This problem may not occur due to read operations. This
problem is due to manipulating data in database such that performing creates, modify and write
operations on data items. The delete operation has capability of deleting the data items which is
similar to modify operation. And the insert operation have able to create a new data items and assign
the values if data items are not exist before staring the transaction which is similar to the create and
write operation in database.
The delete operation can be performed on when the data items exists on database. If we perform the

Phenotypes In Animals Lab Report
Introduction A study was created on the difference between phenotypes in corn stalks. We planted
corn seeds to see what phenotype they would result in and record the data. Using statistical analysis,
we determined the expected and observed color of the stalks. There were some green and white. The
ratio we tested was 3:1, a monohybrid cross. This means the dominant trait is present 3 times, and the
recessive only one (NDSU 2000). The objective of this study was to compare our expected and
observed phenotypes between corn plants.
Methods Our methods were fairly simple. To make sure our results were accurate, we used three plant
pots to plant our seeds. We labeled the pots with our names and their cross numbers. Filling the pots
with soil, we made sure it was damp and not wet by squeezing the soil out and packing it in the pot
about half way. Then, we planted five seeds and spread them out, so they had room to grow. Lastly, we
covered the seeds with more soil, also packing it lightly but tightly. After the plants grew, we
examined and determined that our hypothesized ratio was 3:1 with a sample size of 38. Our
phenotypes were green and white. We used a Chi square analysis to determine our hypothesis. Null
hypothesis: There is no difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Our alternate hypothesis was
that there is a difference in phenotypes between corn plants.

The Decade Of The 1950 s
Immediately following the second World War, America entered the decade of the 1950 s which would
be a time of major social and cultural change. The economy in the 1950 s was thriving, and a decrease
in poverty percentages arose which benefitted those of the generation (Brinkley). However, during this
time period America underwent a nationwide revolution as a result of the Cold War (Kennedy 877).
Critical areas of American life such as space travel, arms development and the acquisition of foreign
alliances such as North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were formed, all to oppose the
communist political ideology (Kennedy 877). This decade also became a turning point in the
widespread development of music, with the introduction of rock and ... Show more content on

The Beat Generation was founded in the early 1940 s but was mainly developed throughout the 50 s.
Some of its major influences were Jack Kerouac, known as the generations founder, Lawrence
Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, each with their own social impact in society (Rahn). The majority of
those within the movement were from the middle class but educated in public policies as well (Rahn).
The major points that were argued by this generation were that Capitalism was really a policy that hurt
Americans more than it helped them and it would come to question the materialism of the 50 s society.
In a book known as Howl published by Allen Ginsberg within the time period would come to

York Times as saying the Beat Generation had flourished because they are simply the product of
twisted confusion ( PRIEST BELITTLES... ). This quote shows that traditionalists were still fighting
the upcoming open minded generation to preserve their own cultural values. The Beat Generation, in a
crucial period in history would greatly impact the minds of people. At the same

Research Paper On Zheng He
The beginning of maritime exploration was a major milestone in the history of the world. The
exploration of the vast sea lead to the development of trade relations between foreign empires and
innovation that helped to improve the speed and efficiency of ships. New ships attracted the attention
of explorers who sought to fulfill their personal desires or those of their empire, however one explorer
stood above them all. Zheng He s tragic childhood only fueled his thirst for power which he fulfilled
through his expeditions to foreign countries, that in turn benefited China, even after his death he left
his impact.
Zheng He had a complicated childhood that helped forge his future as one of the greatest maritime
explorers of China. He was born in 1371 in Yunnan, located near the foothills of the Himalayas near
south west China. (Nelson and Strayer 508). Zheng He s ancestors were Persian Muslims. His
grandfather and father practised Muslim faith and had made Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, before his
family became high ranking officials for the Mongols that had taken over China at the time. (Nelson
and Strayer 508). When the Ming dynasty overthrew the Mongols they invaded Yunnan when Zheng
He was eleven and as a result his father was brutally killed while resisting Ming forces in 1382.
(Brown).
In ancient Chinese times castration was a common ritual that had been practised for a long history of
time not only in China but also in Islamic and Christian civilizations. (Nelson and

Analysis Of mericans By Sandra Cisneros
´Mericans by Sandra Cisneros was a very straight forward literary work. The reader gets a strong
sense of the setting in the first few lines of the story when Cisneros begins to use Spanish words and
phrases. Just by reading the Spanish words, images, smells, and feelings come to a readers mind. For
example, when I read Spanish words I think of warmth, cinnamon, and chili peppers. Also, based on
the title of the text and the first few sentances I deduced that the story would be about an
Americanized Mexican family, and therefore began to think of the conflicts that could result within
this family. This made me curious and drew me into the text. In the first paragraph of the story, a
classic church scene is described establishing the location of the setting. As the story continues,
readers get the impression that the family does not have very much money because of the way the
different characters are described and because the narrator says, We can not spend our allowance on
fried cookies or Familia Burron comic books or those clear cone shaped suckers. These are all items
that do not cost much money and therefore, readers assume that the children receive a very small
allowance. Readers get an even stronger sense of the setting of the inside of the church when the
author states that the grandmother disappeared behind the heavy leather outer curtain and the dusty
velvet inner . Readers begin to understand that the narrator views the church as a gloomy, old, stale
place,

Weight Distribution Of Paper Air Lab Report
Effect of the weight distribution on the flight distance of a Paper Airplane
By: Melinda Martin
UBT1: Western Governors University
Introduction
This report shows the effects of weight distribution has on the flight distance of a paper airplane. Just
like with real airplanes, paper airplanes rely on aerodynamics to get the airplane to fly, although, they
may not look or fly the same they use the same. Changing the postion of where the weight is
distrubuted on a paper airplane can affect the planes ability to fly as far.
Literature Review
According to the article Four Forces on an Airplane, weight is always directed to the cented of the
earth. (National Aeronaustics and Space Administration, n.d.). There are other forces ... Show more

The dependent variable was the distance each plane flew, this was measured in inches using a 16 foot
tape measurer. There were three controlled variables, the first was the size and weight of the paper
airplanes with the paper clip attached, I used the same size paper, paper airplane design, and the 28mm
paper clip for each plane. The second starting position where I stood, I marked a designated position
to stand at and threw the planes with my right foot at the starting line each throw. The final controlled
variable was how the planes were held and thrown, I held each plane at the center of the plane and
threw with my right arm.
Hypothesis:
Based on a previous paper airplane experiment coducted on balancing lift and weight, you can change
the center of gravity by placing weight on different parts of the plane. The further towards the nose of
the plane the more likely it ll nose dive. Moving the weight towards the tail will cause the nose to go
up. (Science Buddies, 2013). Given this infomtion, I hypothesize that placing weight on the center of
the paper airplane will give it the center of gravity it needs to fly the furthest distance.
Materials and Methods:
To conduct this experiment, I used the following materials: Figure 1. The equipment used to conduct
the experiment.
3 pieces of 9 x 12 construction paper
3 28 mm paper clips weighing approx .5grams
1 16 ft tape measurer
1 pencil to documnt the distance

Dear Patricia Lodge,
In this report, as requested, I hope to help you understand the current situation, of the Lodge Bistro
Chain. I believe the issues affecting the business are: staffing problems, growing competition,
inconsistency in the approach of management, attracting lower spending customers, disagreement
between managers and company standards lowering.
Part (a)
The staffing issue, more specifically the high staff turnover, is affecting the expenditure of the
company due to the constant training which is also impacting upon existing staff due to the pressure
and responsibility being put on them. The service will also lack in quality and consistency due to this
problem; having both inexperienced and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part (c)
I believe in order to solve current problems and prevent them resurfacing in the future, The Lodge
Bistro needs to recoup some of its old ways, but still take into consideration some new ideas. For
example, the strict and consistent routine implemented in the late 80 s proved itself as a staple for the
success of the business. When the company began its decline, too much was changed at once, leaving
much confusion amongst employees and customers. As mentioned in the case study, Large restaurant
chains had yet to dominate the market, Joyce s business therefore secured a successful niche based on
the distinctiveness of her concept . I think The Lodge Bistro could market this heavily and reiterate to
customers it was the original old fashioned French bistro, but also keep in touch with current trends at
the same time.
The issue with lower spending customers and different ranges appealing in different locations need not
be a problem, and need not be so inconsistent if a proper marketing scheme was in place. I suggest
higher price banding for city locations and lower price banding for outer city branches might help, and
maybe a trial and error in every cafe for some new ideas put forward already by managers, like the
less packaging scheme, and organic ranges.
Part 2
From the TGF discussions I have seen a variety of ideas from the group which broadened my horizons
greatly on how

Auditing Database Systems, Systems Development Program...
Introduction
The second assignment is based on Auditing database systems, Systems Development Program change
activities and Transaction processing financial reporting systems. This paper will answer the problems
specified in this second assignment, it will provide solutions to problems 5, 12, and 23 on pages 168,
220 and 288 respectively.
The first problem deals with First State Bank and suggested configurations for the banks databases
and data communications facilities. The second problem deals with the activates that promote
effective control and finally the last problem which deals with XBRL and the enhancements and
discussion of data integrity, internal control and reporting concerns in relation to XBRL.
Question 1
Response:
This configuration will entail a hybrid of centralized and decentralized processing. Because customers
should be able to bank at any of the 11 branches, cash withdrawal transactions from each branch
should be centrally processed and the customer databases updated. Deposits of cash and checks and
payment of customers bills can be stored on remote computers, with the data being sent to the
mainframe periodically. Banks tend to be more concerned with the promptness in recording cash
withdrawals than cash receipts. Thus, the data representing the payment of customers bills may be sent
to the mainframe computer four to six times a day for updating, while deposits of cash may be
transmitted only twice a day. The payroll accounts can be stored and

C.S.Lewis
C.S. Lewis: Christian Apologist
Included in the 10 most influential Christians of the 20th century alongside Karl Barth, Pope John
XXIII, Martin Luther King Jr, and Billy Graham, the Christian History magazine named him the
atheist scholar who became an Anglican, an apologist, and a patron saint of Christians everywhere. He
was also dubbed as an apostle to the skeptics because he resolutely answered frequent objections
individuals had when it came to accepting Christ as their Savior (christianodyssey.com).
Born into a Protestant family in Ireland on November 29, 1898, C.S. Lewis was the son of A.J. Lewis,

Everybody possesses an internal sense of moral obligation to realize the difference between right and
wrong and choose to do what is right. Lewis ascertains that the existence of this common moral
conscience, can only be the consequential result from the existence of a god who created all humans.
(about.com).
C.S. Lewis disputed for reason based Christianity as opposed to faith based Christianity. This is a
questionable decision on Lewis part because conventional Christianity is indisputably faith based.
Lewis principal readers were supposed to be skeptics and atheists rather than current believers.
Skeptics doubt for lack of reason and evidence; therefore, only reason and evidence is more likely to
draw their reconsideration. In his book, Mere Christianity, Lewis writes: I am not asking anyone to
accept Christianity if his best reasoning tells him that the weight of the evidence is against it.
(about.com).
One of Lewis most often quoted statements is from Mere Christianity, where he uses reason and logic
to introduce three possibilities to us (often known as the Lewis trilemma ). According to this trilemma,
either Jesus really was God and intentionally lying, or was not God but reckoned himself to be (which
would make him a lunatic). Mere Christianity goes on to say that the latter likelihood is not consistent
with Jesus character and it is, therefore, most likely that he was being truthful

both her father and husband as amazing men and served them as a Puritan woman at the time would.
Between the years 1633 and 1652, Anne had her eight children and many domestic responsibilities,
but she also wrote her poetry which expresses her commitment to the craft of writing. In addition, her
work reflects the religious and emotional conflicts she experienced as a woman writer and as a
Puritan. Bradstreet was concerned with the issues of sin and redemption, physical and emotional
frailty, death and immortality throughout her life. Bradstreet wrote many of the poems that appeared in
the first edition of The Tenth Muse... during the years 1635 to 1645 while she lived in the frontier

Walker Percy s Loss Of The Creature
Walker Percy explored the different aspects of human behavior in his essay, Loss of the Creature. He
saw people for being blind to the potential they have in the activities they do. The world is being seen
through phones and pictures, never by the real experiences or by the naked eye. Humans will
experience a vast amount of information in their lives, but too much exposure leads to boredom. Percy
s opinion is to experience subjects on your own, to think about what is happening, instead of being
told or shown, and to discover what has never been found before. Tours are useless, projects are
disregarding towards their meaning, and his essay persuades people to look at life through a harder
and beneficial way. The Grand Canyon, an immense monument of pure beauty, the distinct feature of
an American desert, the timeline of the Earth s history, and the Pormosa for García López de
Cárdenas. Percy spoke of a Bostonian man that travelled to the canyon, but was never truly there. He
didn t have the same experience of the Spaniard centuries ago, (Percy 462 463). The Grand Canyon
may have changed in form from the erosion and corrosion, yet he didn t take the same actions of
Cárdenas. The man knew about the canyon before even seeing it for the first time, due to previously
seen postcards and pictures, he couldn t have the full feeling of awe at the tremendous depth and
vibrant colors in something that is just more than a big, long rock. The author continued on by stating,

Document based question (DBQ) Levels of Literacy (60 minutes, 1,000 words minimum)
Task: Describe the variations in the levels of literacy in Old Regime France and trace these variations
over time. Analyze the factors that promoted or discouraged the spread of literacy.
Analysis of fourteen documents for the DBQ Literacy in France essay question:
Document # 1:
Document # 1 was a comparison of the degree of literacy in France between the seventeenth and late
eighteenth century as well as between men and women. During the reign of Louis XIV (1638 1715),
focusing on the years from 1686 to 1690, merely more than forty percent of the French men were
literate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document # 3:
In document # 3, literacy in France was examined by social groups and classes; the dates compared
were again 1680 and 1789, i.e. French Absolutism as opposed to the days of the French Revolution.
Overall, three social groups were examined. The first groups were the nobles and professionals:
interestingly enough, these two groups were on opposite sides at the time of the French Revolution.
Whereas the vast majority of the powerful nobility mostly sided with the Ancien Regime, resisted
attempts to reform, and defended its privileges, the highly educated bourgeoisie became revolutionary
when it realized that political representation of its vested interests was not possible in Old Regime
France, and political change was prevented by the First and Second Estate. Only then did the
bourgeoisie desire to overthrow the French medieval state and replace it with a modern state that
would truly represent the interests of the French bourgeoisie.
In 1680, ninety five percent of French male aristocrats were literate, and that number would not have
changed by 1789. In 1680, sixty percent of French aristocratic women could read and write, and by
1789 up to eighty five percent of French noblewomen had become literate. These numbers were
identical with the literacy rate of the French bourgeoisie, both men and women,

Culture Is The Greatest Human Invention
Culture is the learned values, beliefs, and rules of conduct that are shared to some extent by the
members of a society that govern their behavior with one another. It is the greatest human invention, it
is the ultimate definition of what, where, and how we call a place our home. In this essay I will discuss
the characteristics, process, and elements within culture, as well as an in depth look into the different
categories and the topic of race within culture. A few basic components of culture are cognitive
process, behavior, and material creations. Cognitive processes are the basic outline or ground work by
which people think, reason, and give value. These frameworks for thought are learned by
enculturation in both formal and informal situations throughout their lives. We cannot view the
cognitive processes that create a value system within an individual s mind, but we can view the
outcome... (28 29). this means that while we cannot view the creation of values in a culture, we can
witness the embodiment of these learned perspectives. When an individual s actions reflect their
cognitive process, they re presenting their learned behavior. Behavior is another component of culture
because everything from the way we use our bodies to how we interact in social or secluded situations
is a result from how and where we were raised. Finally, material creations help define culture because
objects like art, artifacts or features often reflect the creator s cultural thoughts,

technology changing global culture as well as the effect it s having on the youngest generation. Digital

Generation viewpoint, as well as the dangers of videogames. Furthermore, the documentary glorifies
the previous generation by looking at the past with a nostalgic view, suggesting that we were better off
before. On the other hand, the documentary show the positive impact of videogames in education,
showcasing its use as a tool for learning to further engage students and create a more interesting
classroom. During the film, Rushkoff traveled to South Korea and discusses how that nation is trying
to deal with the now present problem addiction among youth with gaming and the internet. Rushkoff
remarks that these kids Causalities of the digital revolution, as he visits rehabilitation camps and

Consumerism In The United States
1. Some people argue that it is acceptable for people in the United States to consume at high levels
because their consumerism keeps the world economy going. What are the weaknesses in this idea?
Although America s consumerism may seem to help the economy of less fortunate countries, this
rampant depletion has become financially and ecologically unsustainable. Globally, 86% of
consumption expenditures comes from the 20% of the world s people in first world countries, while
the poorest 20% account for only a meager 14%. It seems that consumption has become a function of
our culture. Only by generating and selling goods does capitalism currently work; and the more
produced and purchased the more we have progress and prosperity. Additionally, ... Show more

America, the separation between people who have much and those who have little begins with
education. The difference in jobs for someone with their GED and someone with their Associates
remains staggering. The unemployment rates are high enough to make jobs highly competitive.
Machines, electronics, and even cheap labor in other countries have appropriated many job
opportunities to meet the demand. So, good grades, a diploma, and a college education are of vital

Factors Affecting Seasonal Affective Disorder
1. Although many studies have focused on individual factors relating to Seasonal Affective Disorder
(SAD), this study sought to extend such research by determining whether cognitive, behavioral and
psychophysiological factors that associate to individuals with nonseasonal depression would correlate
to those of SAD (Rohan, Sigmon Dorhofer, 2003). 2. Before gathering the data, the researchers had a
couple hypotheses in mind. They first hypothesized that women with a history of SAD would
encounter and report more negative thinking as well as reduced activity frequency and enjoyment
during the winter time. Not only that, but they expected that a predicted ruminative response style in
the fall would help foretell the severity of depressive symptoms later during the winter time. The
researchers then went on to assume that women with a history of SAD would ultimately report more
depressed mood and experience greater psychophysiological reactivity as a response to low light
intensity stimuli during the winter time relative to controls. 3. The type of research method involved
was a correlational study, however the researchers ended up taking on a longitudinal, multimethod
approach. Twenty women with a history of SAD and twenty women with equivalent age and
education level were recruited for this study, however two participants dropped out of the study who
had a history of SAD, leaving them with eighteen SAD participants and twenty controls. Each
participant went through

A Short Note On The De La Mano Y Tercer N Desbridarlas
FLICTENAS: ¿DEJARLAS INTACTAS O DESBRIDARLAS?

  • 2. My Volunteering Experience At Children s Hospital Colorado Throughout the years I feel that I ve had a number of valuable experiences, my most significant experience is my volunteering experience at Children s Hospital Colorado. I still remember feeling utterly terrified on my first day volunteering, pondering all the possible ways things could go wrong. I suddenly felt as though I have never experienced this before. I was on my own, responsible for myself and all of my actions. On my first day volunteering, I found myself doing deliveries on the sterile patient floors. There was a type of silence that made me nervous. I couldn t hear a word of casual chatter, or people carelessly laughing. It felt completely different from what I was used to hearing on a day to day bases. I went on my search to find the room that I was delivering the gift to, while following all the rules that were established at my orientation. At the time, the task seemed odd, I didn t expect it to be something I would be doing when I started out. Everything seemed new, and different, it allowed me to view thing that differed from the protected scope I looked through my entire life. Reality was right in front of me, this was the reality of so many people, and it was something that I had never had to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The experience taught me to work hard to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor and helping as many people as I can. It taught me not to waste my time. All of my dedication has pushed me to be the best person I can be so in the future I can feel confident about all of my choices. Volunteering at Children s Hospital offered me an experience that pushed me to strive for no less than excellence. By volunteering, I watched my dreams and ambitions get closer, and although the process is a slow and difficult one, every second of it was worth it because I was able to watch everything I value become ... It was Oli s, my best friend s, birthday and her, Angelo, and Dante, were going to Las Vegas to spend her special weekend. Although I ve told and reminded my mom of me leaving over ten times, she is incredibly forgetful. Mom, I ve already told you. I m going out for the weekend, I responded, yelling but my voice monotone. Okay, sweetie, I ll probably be here when you get home. Okay, mom. Love you, I quietly responded, already out of the door and heading to my car. My mother never liked any of the friends that I ve ever made. She always said that they were bad influences. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business people, immigrants, settlers of the region, or tourists, the border towns all had some appeal to these persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren t able to move through these areas. Once the Canal was built it served as that pathway through these areas. The Canal also was a much cheaper source of transportation that was used by residents, tourists, emigrants, and workers during this time. Evangelical preachers used the artificial ... During my final year in college, I worked on a project to identify large scale threats to public life by classifying RSS news feeds. Since we had to narrow down the genre to identify events like accidents and disasters, we applied NLP techniques before applying typical classification methods like SVM. We did tokenization, Part of Speech tagging, subject verb relation and sentiment scoring of the verbs to understand more about the nature and gravity of news. • 7. Annotated Bibliography On Database Management System Abstract: There are many restrictions on the write and read operations in database management system. These restrictions show the measurable effect on the each and every transaction in the database management system and which are due to some specific operations. The transactions are not only read that data from database all the time but sometime some transaction need to delete the data items from database and create the data items into database. Such type of transactions show high impact on concurrency control. So, we are analyzing how those transaction bias the concurrency control in database management system. Introduction: The basic problem of concurrency control is sharing the data in database at a time by many numbers of users. Due to many users accessing data at a time which causes to produce the undesirable output or system failure even the transaction is correct. This problem may not occur due to read operations. This problem is due to manipulating data in database such that performing creates, modify and write operations on data items. The delete operation has capability of deleting the data items which is similar to modify operation. And the insert operation have able to create a new data items and assign the values if data items are not exist before staring the transaction which is similar to the create and write operation in database. The delete operation can be performed on when the data items exists on database. If we perform the delete operation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Phenotypes In Animals Lab Report Introduction A study was created on the difference between phenotypes in corn stalks. We planted corn seeds to see what phenotype they would result in and record the data. Using statistical analysis, we determined the expected and observed color of the stalks. There were some green and white. The ratio we tested was 3:1, a monohybrid cross. This means the dominant trait is present 3 times, and the recessive only one (NDSU 2000). The objective of this study was to compare our expected and observed phenotypes between corn plants. Methods Our methods were fairly simple. To make sure our results were accurate, we used three plant pots to plant our seeds. We labeled the pots with our names and their cross numbers. Filling the pots with soil, we made sure it was damp and not wet by squeezing the soil out and packing it in the pot about half way. Then, we planted five seeds and spread them out, so they had room to grow. Lastly, we covered the seeds with more soil, also packing it lightly but tightly. After the plants grew, we examined and determined that our hypothesized ratio was 3:1 with a sample size of 38. Our phenotypes were green and white. We used a Chi square analysis to determine our hypothesis. Null hypothesis: There is no difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Our alternate hypothesis was that there is a difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The economy in the 1950 s was thriving, and a decrease in poverty percentages arose which benefitted those of the generation (Brinkley). However, during this time period America underwent a nationwide revolution as a result of the Cold War (Kennedy 877). Critical areas of American life such as space travel, arms development and the acquisition of foreign alliances such as North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were formed, all to oppose the communist political ideology (Kennedy 877). The majority of those within the movement were from the middle class but educated in public policies as well (Rahn). • 12. Research Paper On Zheng He The beginning of maritime exploration was a major milestone in the history of the world. The exploration of the vast sea lead to the development of trade relations between foreign empires and innovation that helped to improve the speed and efficiency of ships. New ships attracted the attention of explorers who sought to fulfill their personal desires or those of their empire, however one explorer stood above them all. Zheng He s tragic childhood only fueled his thirst for power which he fulfilled through his expeditions to foreign countries, that in turn benefited China, even after his death he left his impact. Zheng He had a complicated childhood that helped forge his future as one of the greatest maritime explorers of China. He was born in 1371 in Yunnan, located near the foothills of the Himalayas near south west China. (Nelson and Strayer 508). Zheng He s ancestors were Persian Muslims. His grandfather and father practised Muslim faith and had made Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, before his family became high ranking officials for the Mongols that had taken over China at the time. (Nelson and Strayer 508). When the Ming dynasty overthrew the Mongols they invaded Yunnan when Zheng He was eleven and as a result his father was brutally killed while resisting Ming forces in 1382. (Brown). In ancient Chinese times castration was a common ritual that had been practised for a long history of time not only in China but also in Islamic and Christian civilizations. (Nelson and ... • 13. Analysis Of mericans By Sandra Cisneros ´Mericans by Sandra Cisneros was a very straight forward literary work. The reader gets a strong sense of the setting in the first few lines of the story when Cisneros begins to use Spanish words and phrases. Just by reading the Spanish words, images, smells, and feelings come to a readers mind. For example, when I read Spanish words I think of warmth, cinnamon, and chili peppers. Also, based on the title of the text and the first few sentances I deduced that the story would be about an Americanized Mexican family, and therefore began to think of the conflicts that could result within this family. This made me curious and drew me into the text. In the first paragraph of the story, a classic church scene is described establishing the location of the setting. As the story continues, readers get the impression that the family does not have very much money because of the way the different characters are described and because the narrator says, We can not spend our allowance on fried cookies or Familia Burron comic books or those clear cone shaped suckers. These are all items that do not cost much money and therefore, readers assume that the children receive a very small allowance. Readers get an even stronger sense of the setting of the inside of the church when the author states that the grandmother disappeared behind the heavy leather outer curtain and the dusty velvet inner . Readers begin to understand that the narrator views the church as a gloomy, old, stale place, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Weight Distribution Of Paper Air Lab Report Effect of the weight distribution on the flight distance of a Paper Airplane By: Melinda Martin UBT1: Western Governors University Introduction This report shows the effects of weight distribution has on the flight distance of a paper airplane. Just like with real airplanes, paper airplanes rely on aerodynamics to get the airplane to fly, although, they may not look or fly the same they use the same. Changing the postion of where the weight is distrubuted on a paper airplane can affect the planes ability to fly as far. Literature Review According to the article Four Forces on an Airplane, weight is always directed to the cented of the earth. (National Aeronaustics and Space Administration, n.d.). There are other forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dependent variable was the distance each plane flew, this was measured in inches using a 16 foot tape measurer. There were three controlled variables, the first was the size and weight of the paper airplanes with the paper clip attached, I used the same size paper, paper airplane design, and the 28mm paper clip for each plane. The second starting position where I stood, I marked a designated position to stand at and threw the planes with my right foot at the starting line each throw. The final controlled variable was how the planes were held and thrown, I held each plane at the center of the plane and threw with my right arm. Hypothesis: Based on a previous paper airplane experiment coducted on balancing lift and weight, you can change the center of gravity by placing weight on different parts of the plane. The further towards the nose of the plane the more likely it ll nose dive. Moving the weight towards the tail will cause the nose to go up. (Science Buddies, 2013). Given this infomtion, I hypothesize that placing weight on the center of the paper airplane will give it the center of gravity it needs to fly the furthest distance. Materials and Methods: To conduct this experiment, I used the following materials: Figure 1. The equipment used to conduct the experiment.

It explains how the couple is having a hard time conceiving, and try various procedures to see if they have any success. After three unsuccessful attempts at conceiving a test tube baby, the Brooklyn couple had come to the seashore to bury their dream of having a biological child. There, Ms. Alisberg and Mr. Albano, both lawyers, both in their early 40 s, pulled lists from their pockets on which each had written characteristics of the other that they would miss in not having a baby from their own eggs and sperm. They read the lists aloud and then, because it was too windy to burn them, as they had planned, they buried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. B120 Tma01 Essay B120 TMA01 Part 1 Dear Patricia Lodge, In this report, as requested, I hope to help you understand the current situation, of the Lodge Bistro Chain. I believe the issues affecting the business are: staffing problems, growing competition, inconsistency in the approach of management, attracting lower spending customers, disagreement between managers and company standards lowering. Part (a) The staffing issue, more specifically the high staff turnover, is affecting the expenditure of the company due to the constant training which is also impacting upon existing staff due to the pressure and responsibility being put on them. The service will also lack in quality and consistency due to this problem; having both inexperienced and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part (c) I believe in order to solve current problems and prevent them resurfacing in the future, The Lodge Bistro needs to recoup some of its old ways, but still take into consideration some new ideas. For example, the strict and consistent routine implemented in the late 80 s proved itself as a staple for the success of the business. When the company began its decline, too much was changed at once, leaving much confusion amongst employees and customers. As mentioned in the case study, Large restaurant chains had yet to dominate the market, Joyce s business therefore secured a successful niche based on the distinctiveness of her concept . I think The Lodge Bistro could market this heavily and reiterate to customers it was the original old fashioned French bistro, but also keep in touch with current trends at the same time. The issue with lower spending customers and different ranges appealing in different locations need not be a problem, and need not be so inconsistent if a proper marketing scheme was in place. I suggest higher price banding for city locations and lower price banding for outer city branches might help, and maybe a trial and error in every cafe for some new ideas put forward already by managers, like the less packaging scheme, and organic ranges. Part 2 From the TGF discussions I have seen a variety of ideas from the group which broadened my horizons greatly on how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The second assignment is based on Auditing database systems, Systems Development Program change activities and Transaction processing financial reporting systems. This paper will answer the problems specified in this second assignment, it will provide solutions to problems 5, 12, and 23 on pages 168, 220 and 288 respectively. The first problem deals with First State Bank and suggested configurations for the banks databases and data communications facilities. The second problem deals with the activates that promote effective control and finally the last problem which deals with XBRL and the enhancements and discussion of data integrity, internal control and reporting concerns in relation to XBRL. Question 1 Response: This configuration will entail a hybrid of centralized and decentralized processing. Because customers should be able to bank at any of the 11 branches, cash withdrawal transactions from each branch should be centrally processed and the customer databases updated. Deposits of cash and checks and payment of customers bills can be stored on remote computers, with the data being sent to the mainframe periodically. Banks tend to be more concerned with the promptness in recording cash withdrawals than cash receipts. Thus, the data representing the payment of customers bills may be sent to the mainframe computer four to six times a day for updating, while deposits of cash may be transmitted only twice a day. The payroll accounts can be stored and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lewis: Christian Apologist Included in the 10 most influential Christians of the 20th century alongside Karl Barth, Pope John XXIII, Martin Luther King Jr, and Billy Graham, the Christian History magazine named him the atheist scholar who became an Anglican, an apologist, and a patron saint of Christians everywhere. He was also dubbed as an apostle to the skeptics because he resolutely answered frequent objections individuals had when it came to accepting Christ as their Savior (christianodyssey.com). Born into a Protestant family in Ireland on November 29, 1898, C.S. Lewis was the son of A.J. Lewis, a solicitor, and Flora Augusta, a promising mathematician. He bore a lonely and unhappy childhood. Lewis ascertains that the existence of this common moral conscience, can only be the consequential result from the existence of a god who created all humans. (about.com). C.S. Lewis disputed for reason based Christianity as opposed to faith based Christianity. This is a questionable decision on Lewis part because conventional Christianity is indisputably faith based. Lewis principal readers were supposed to be skeptics and atheists rather than current believers. Skeptics doubt for lack of reason and evidence; therefore, only reason and evidence is more likely to draw their reconsideration. In his book, Mere Christianity, Lewis writes: I am not asking anyone to accept Christianity if his best reasoning tells him that the weight of the evidence is against it. (about.com). One of Lewis most often quoted statements is from Mere Christianity, where he uses reason and logic to introduce three possibilities to us (often known as the Lewis trilemma ). According to this trilemma, either Jesus really was God and intentionally lying, or was not God but reckoned himself to be (which would make him a lunatic). Mere Christianity goes on to say that the latter likelihood is not consistent with Jesus character and it is, therefore, most likely that he was being truthful A man ... He saw people for being blind to the potential they have in the activities they do. The world is being seen through phones and pictures, never by the real experiences or by the naked eye. Humans will experience a vast amount of information in their lives, but too much exposure leads to boredom. Percy s opinion is to experience subjects on your own, to think about what is happening, instead of being told or shown, and to discover what has never been found before. Tours are useless, projects are disregarding towards their meaning, and his essay persuades people to look at life through a harder and beneficial way. Document # 3: In document # 3, literacy in France was examined by social groups and classes; the dates compared were again 1680 and 1789, i.e. French Absolutism as opposed to the days of the French Revolution. Overall, three social groups were examined. The first groups were the nobles and professionals: interestingly enough, these two groups were on opposite sides at the time of the French Revolution. Whereas the vast majority of the powerful nobility mostly sided with the Ancien Regime, resisted attempts to reform, and defended its privileges, the highly educated bourgeoisie became revolutionary when it realized that political representation of its vested interests was not possible in Old Regime France, and political change was prevented by the First and Second Estate. Only then did the bourgeoisie desire to overthrow the French medieval state and replace it with a modern state that would truly represent the interests of the French bourgeoisie. In 1680, ninety five percent of French male aristocrats were literate, and that number would not have changed by 1789. In 1680, sixty percent of French aristocratic women could read and write, and by 1789 up to eighty five percent of French noblewomen had become literate. • 29. Culture Is The Greatest Human Invention Culture is the learned values, beliefs, and rules of conduct that are shared to some extent by the members of a society that govern their behavior with one another. It is the greatest human invention, it is the ultimate definition of what, where, and how we call a place our home. In this essay I will discuss the characteristics, process, and elements within culture, as well as an in depth look into the different categories and the topic of race within culture. A few basic components of culture are cognitive process, behavior, and material creations. Cognitive processes are the basic outline or ground work by which people think, reason, and give value. These frameworks for thought are learned by enculturation in both formal and informal situations throughout their lives. We cannot view the cognitive processes that create a value system within an individual s mind, but we can view the outcome... (28 29). this means that while we cannot view the creation of values in a culture, we can witness the embodiment of these learned perspectives. When an individual s actions reflect their cognitive process, they re presenting their learned behavior. Behavior is another component of culture because everything from the way we use our bodies to how we interact in social or secluded situations is a result from how and where we were raised. What are the weaknesses in this idea? Although America s consumerism may seem to help the economy of less fortunate countries, this rampant depletion has become financially and ecologically unsustainable. Globally, 86% of consumption expenditures comes from the 20% of the world s people in first world countries, while the poorest 20% account for only a meager 14%. Although many studies have focused on individual factors relating to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), this study sought to extend such research by determining whether cognitive, behavioral and psychophysiological factors that associate to individuals with nonseasonal depression would correlate to those of SAD (Rohan, Sigmon Dorhofer, 2003). 2. Before gathering the data, the researchers had a couple hypotheses in mind. They first hypothesized that women with a history of SAD would encounter and report more negative thinking as well as reduced activity frequency and enjoyment during the winter time. Not only that, but they expected that a predicted ruminative response style in the fall would help foretell the severity of depressive symptoms later during the winter time. The researchers then went on to assume that women with a history of SAD would ultimately report more depressed mood and experience greater psychophysiological reactivity as a response to low light intensity stimuli during the winter time relative to controls. 3. The type of research method involved was a correlational study, however the researchers ended up taking on a longitudinal, multimethod approach. Twenty women with a history of SAD and twenty women with equivalent age and education level were recruited for this study, however two participants dropped out of the study who had a history of SAD, leaving them with eighteen SAD participants and twenty controls.
