Contemporary Art Homework
For my first passport assignment for anthropology, my friend and I visited the Scottsdale Museum
of Contemporary Art Museum (SMOCA). They had just revamped the place to represent woman
artists from Aboriginal Australia. The exhibit was called Marking the Infinite . There were nine
female artists in the exhibition who gave a glimpse into the diverse contemporary art practice of
Aboriginal Australia. Their names are Nonggirrnga Marawili, Wintjiya Napaltjarri, Yukultji
Napangati, Angela Pwerle, Carlene West, Regina Pilawuk Wilson, Lena Yarinkura, Gulumbu
Yunupingu, and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu. They use their art to empower their all around respective
communities and speak to universal contemporary themes. From all over different areas of Australia,

For example, artist Lena Yarinkura began to experiment by using weaving to create representational
forms such as animals and regional spirit figures supernatural creatures or ancestral beings that
inhabited her country. Another artist, Carlene West underwent a rapid transformation; formal
symbolic and narrative elements receded, giving way to more expressive painting. Her paintings
offer a metaphor for the connection between place and indigenous identity. Anthropologist John
Carty notes that, Carlene s marks are the traces of meaningful action; of the actions that made the
world, and that continue to make the world meaningful; of the artist becoming an ancestor. Most of
her art represents herself, her lifestyle or traditions; she puts meanings and backstories in her
paintings for example to let the public know what she has been through. They represent themes that
are universal contemporary, and tell the native understandings from the twenty first century. Lastly,
seen at the exhibit were Larrakitj poles. Larrakitj were created by the people of Yolngu to hold
bones of the dead. These poles were somewhat symmetrical, hollow and made out of eucalyptus
trees. The surface of the pole was decorated with a detailed painting that represented the guide of
the deceased leading them to their spiritual

Technology Threatens Your Privacy Essay example
Privacy threats are currently the biggest threat to National Security today. The threats are not only
concerning to the government, however. An alarming 92% of Americans are concerned that the
power grid may be vulnerable to a cyber attack (Denholm). Although this is a more recent
development to the cyber threats we have experienced, this is not the first time that privacy threats
have stepped into the limelight as people are forced to watch their every online move.
There are twelve major ways technology threatens your online policy today. The first of these
threats is phishing. According to Riva Richmond, phishing is a ploy to gain personal information
that will help people to steal your identity. Hackers will send you fake e mails that ... Show more

This makes you vulnerable as you just shared very personal information with everyone on the
internet (Richmond).
The history of your web use may not be a big deal to you but it reveals a ton of information. It
reveals everything you have ever searched which means people can find out things like where you
bank, work, and go to school. Targeted advertising and cookies also are a threat to privacy because
companies collect a lot of information about us in order to figure out what we are likely to buy, and
to place their advertisements on our webpages. They get this sensitive information through cookies
which they place on our computers, which allow them to access our personal information. Cloud
computing is also a huge threat because these sites, which often include e mail services, instant
messaging, and document services, do not have security features which protect our privacy and the
confidential things that we don t want other people to view (Richmond).
Electronic medical data has also become a source of concern when it comes to our privacy.
Although the federal government requires that medical data be kept private, it doesn t cover
programs like Google Health or Microsoft s HealthVault in those protection laws which raises the
risk of your medical information being breached. Public Wi Fi isn t exactly keeping our private
information safe either. They often don t encrypt data which makes it easier for hackers to gain

There have been different definitions of Hospitality. Broadly speaking, Hospitality is the act of
kindness in welcoming and looking after the basic needs of guests or strangers, mainly in
relation to food, drink and accommodation. A contemporary explanation of Hospitality refers to
the relationship process between a guest and a host. When we talk about the Hospitality
Industry , we are referring to the companies or organisations which provide food and/or drink
and/or accommodation to people who are away from home. However, this definition of the
Hospitality Industry only satisfies most situations. Can you think of any circumstances where the

The team approach promoted strong corporate culture and a work environment where team
members could flourish, build a career, and reach their highest potential. Team members are
motivated and inspired by Whole Foods strategic vision. The process for bringing in a new team
member was thorough and the whole team at a store is involved. Team leaders at each store
receive a salary and a possible bonus based on EVA (Economic Value Added), a system Whole
Foods used to measure performance. In 2004, 86% of employees said they enjoyed their job and
82% felt empowered to do their best work at Whole Foods Markets. Whole Foods Markets
offered gain sharing programs to reward team members according to the store s contribution to
Whole Foods operating profit (additional 5 7% of team members wages). Whole Foods
encouraged stock ownership through three programs: A team member stock option plan (based on
job performance and length of time employed at Whole Foods), a team member stock purchase
plan (based on purchasing stock at 95% of market price), and a team member 401 (k) plan. To
maintain high customer service all team members are continuously evaluated and take place in
competitions against other Whole Foods Markets in that region. In 2007, around 750 team
members were on the EVA based incentive compensation program. EVA calculations were used to
measure profitability and encouraged and motivated team members to succeed.

Analysis Of This Land Is Your Land, By Woody Guthrie
This land is your land is one of the most famous song ever made. It was written and performed by
Woody Guthrie in 1940. It has become a very iconic American song that is learned in school and
performed by many famous artists. What is not known is, the true meaning of the song and
what Woody Guthrie message he was trying to portray in his song. To most Americans they
think of the song as a patriotic song , or the song that almost became our national anthem, but
there is a deeper meaning to the patriotic lyrics we all know. Guthrie wrote the song as a protest
song to protest the working class should have same rights as the rich, and america s lack of
empathy for those in poverty, and there should be more done for those struggling in the working
class and poverty. He believes America would thrive under a communist regime, where everyone
is equal and make the same amount of money no matter how hard they work or how much they
produce. All business and lands would be owned by the government and not the people as well. In
other words, it s about how America should follow a communist regime cause to Guthrie, things
were not going well under a democracy. The song is not about communism, rather tell about all the
struggles for those in poverty and the working class and a communist way can solve it. It can be
viewed from a non communists point of view but Guthrie intentions for the song was to support
communism so everyone is equal. Woody Guthriewas born in Oklahoma in 1912.

Inputs would be time from the consultants, data gathered from the surveys, interviews, and focus
groups, and resources used for the transformation. Once all of the data is gathered and the
problem is clear, main themes can be identified. During the engagement with the client to deliver
the findings, stakeholders will often join the meetings. During the process, all participants are
able to become a part of the strategic process and this helps to win support from the participants.
Using the tactics described above will allow companies to: increase employee involvement, get
everyone involved in the decision making, and allow companies to understand what is needed by
this customer. Clarus takes a team approach when working on projects. All employees are

Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Jane...
The Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Persuasion
In Persuasion, by Jane Austen, there are many exceptional characters. Perhaps two of the most
memorable are Sir Walter Elliot, and his daughter, Anne Elliot. These characters are well shaped and
have something about them that transcends time and social class, enabling readers of the all ages, to
feel they have something in common with them.
Jane Austen has created a very silly, vain man with immense family pride in Sir Walter Elliot. Sir
Walter is extremely proud of his good looks, his family connections and above all, his baronetcy.
The reader is introduced to Sir Walter at the beginning of the novel. Immediately his family pride is
seen and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, Sir Walter has very unusual opinions of people. Sir Walter s opinions of people
stem from: their personal appearance and their family connections. Because of his concern for
personal appearance, Sir Walter has a low opinion of anyone belonging to the navy, the reason
being :
[it] cuts up a man s youth ... Admiral Baldwin s age.
He holds both Admiral and Mrs. Wallis in the highest regard, however, as they are both very
handsome. The reader is not impressed with Sir Walter s ideas.
Sir Walter is also impressed by people s family connections. He is eager to meet Lady Dalrymple,
not because she is family, but because she is a Viscountess. These opinions Sir Walter holds and
his reasons for acquainting himself with others very much emphasizes that Sir Walter is very
conscious of his baronetcy. His pride is also apparent, as he is condescending to people whom he
sees as of lower social class.
Austen further develops Sir Walter through the actions and dialogue of others. Through the
characters of Admiral Croft and Elizabeth Elliot, the reader s impression of Sir Walter is
strengthened. Admiral Croft remarks to Annethat Sir Walter must be rather a dressy man for his
time of life and Elizabeth, again to Anne, says:
One would imagine ...but he abominates them.
Sir Walter s extreme obsession with personal appearance is again emphasized, making him not well
liked.
Finally, Sir Walter s own dialogue condemns him further.

Juvenile Criminals
I believe juveniles with a major criminal background, such as murder should be sued as adults
and faced life in prison if it s necessary. Being a minor should not be an excuse to pay for the
felonies someone commits. Although many opponents think that a minor shouldn t be charged as
an adult, arguing that juveniles don t know what they doing when they are doing something
illegal because a brain of a teen is not fully develop until they are 18 years old. But is it true?
Who proved that? A criminal not only affects his victim, but also third persons for example the
victim s family and sometimes even the criminal s family. Back in 2001 a young man was
murdered by another teen. They were good friends and neighbors. When the 17 ВЅ year old found...

They are less mature, more vulnerable, cannot escape from dangerous environments, and their
characters are still in formation. However, brain imaging studies reveal that the regions of the
adolescent brain responsible for controlling thoughts, actions, and emotions are not fully developed.
Young people...cannot be held to the same standards when they commit terrible wrongs (Garinger)
in the other hand Jennifer Jenkins argues that the development of the brain of a teen has nothing to
do with what they do because even though their brain might still in the process of developing a
juvenile still understands what s right and what s wrong. Advocates often repeat, but truly
misunderstand brain research on this issue. The actual science does not, according to experts such
as Professor Stephen Morse, and others, in any way negate criminal culpability. Also, she stays that
many young offenders are criminals in the making and that they don t necessarily are special cases
for example teens with traumatic childhood. Jenkins says that the majority of young offenders is
spoiled, privilege teens that whenever they face problems their parents would fix it. In fact, that is
why they became public enemies because they are hiding behind their

Essay On The Trojan War
During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the
Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent
city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There
are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event
stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of
the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The
Odyssey. The Trojan War
was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave
warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey.
Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later
on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles
, married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their
marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris,
who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden
apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War
because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next.
They quarreled over the apple and the title of it possessed and decided to ask Paris, a mortal
prince, who truly was the fairest, most magnificent, goddess. They then bribed Paris with riches

Joy Hulga Good Country People
Pride, The Downfall Of Man
According to the catholic theology, the feeling of pride is considered one of the mortal sins. The
mortal sins are believed to be the root cause of all other sins and generally all that is wrong in the
world. The idea behind the churches condemnation of pride is that if a man takes too much pride in
himself his narcissistic tendencies may began to lessen his idolization of his lord and project it
onto himself. Flannery O connor being a devout catholic made pride a dominant personality trait of
the character Joy/ Hulga in her short story, Good Country People , in order to show the dangers
that she believed came with living a life unregulated by regular church attendance and strict

The author is quick to show that the main character clearly does not consider herself Good
Country People . This stories main conflict is the inner struggle of Joy/Hulga to find her true
identity and her attempt to separate that identity from the ones that she is surrounded by. She is
quick to stigmatize those who she indiscriminately identifies as having a substandard IQ. Her
pride was depicted by her beliefs that she was too educated to be outwitted by anyone found in
the rural areas surrounding her home. Joy/Hulga believed that the only necessary or worthwhile
education was the one she has been privy to, however, she finds herself proven wrong when she
is left hung out to dry by a man she had quickly assumed was an innocent dimwit. She saw this
man as something she could use her superior intellect to manipulate, this is illustrated when she
imagined that she very easily seduced him and that then, of course, she had to reckon with his
remorse. (O connor, 180) The author follows with the statement true genius can get an idea across
even to an inferior mind. (O connor, 180) These two short statements clearly expose the pride Joy
/Hulga s had in her own intellect that caused her to overlook and underestimate the words and
actions of the bible salesman Manley Pointer

Human Condition In Human Life
There are so many depths to a human s personality traits, characteristics, and identity. These depths
create an individualized pathway for the life the human lives. This could mean that their attitude
shapes their life or their personality takes full swing and creates a beautiful minded person. Either
way, a humans depths of individuality creates a person s humancondition. The human condition
derives from the key events, situations, and characteristics that occur in a human s life. This creates
the way they feel about things and the hope human s have regardless. The human condition also
gives humans the opportunity to create their future upon things that they like to do and could

Treatment Of Women In Roman Civilization
Roman civilization: Roman civilization was also one of the dominant civilizations. They also

Objectives:
As part of the experiment requirements, we were required to simulate the dynamic response of a
first order and a second order linear system with the help of LabVIEW. One of our first objectives
of this experiment was to observe the response of the first order system to the input step signal and
then relate it to the time constant of that specific first order system. The second objective of this
experiment included observing the second order system to the input step signal and then relating it
to the damping ratio of the specific second order system. The third and most important objective of
this experiment was to use different functions of LabVIEW including loop execution control,

A shift register was then used to store the y value for the next iteration (y(n 1)) in case of the
first order system while a 2 stacked shift register, in case of a second order system, was used to
store the y values from previous iterations (y(n 1) and y(n 2)). A formula node was used in order to
input the formula required to program the algorithm for each of the first and second order systems
respectively. After providing the required number inputs and outputs (as per the requirement of
each of the formula respectively), a waveform function was used to create the waveform data from
the output data and determine the time interval of the input waveform. After using an array to
contain all the input and output waveforms, a graph indicator was finally added to the VI to display
the final graphical representation of the output data.
After saving, each of the VI were run separately set at different time constants (for the first order
system) and different damping ratios and 100 Hz undamped natural frequency (for the second order
ratio).
Results:
After creating the VI for first order differential systems in LabVIEW, we ran the VI using five
different time constant values (0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.1) and received the following graphs:

Vincent Van Gogh And His Life
In essence of this twenty first (21st) Century, the life of Vincent Van Gogh; has become more of a
legend with a substantial figure among painters and western art in the society today. Vincent Van
Gogh is said to be a person with persevering characteristics due to all the failures he encountered
in his career path from being a minister like his father to dealing in arts like his uncle
(Blumer,2002) before becoming the successful painter, we all acknowledge in the world today.
However, Vincent Van Gogh
is practically known to be the subject discussed in midst of artists,
historians, and psychologists worldwide based on his artworks, his mental health issues and cutting
off his left ear.
In brief, Vincent Willem Van Gogh is a well known Dutch post impressionist painter, born to an
austere country ministering father, and an artistic mother on March 30, 1853, in Groot Zundert,
Netherlands, and died as a result of gunshot wound to the chest in the arms of his brother Theo
on July 29, 1890 in Auvers sur Oise, France (Vincent, n.d.). In the wake of recent discoveries,
there have been speculations whether the death of Vincent Van Gogh was a suicidal or murderous
act; which implies whether Van Gogh shot himself or someone else did (Smith Naifeh, 2014). It is
believed the death of Van Gogh is yet a mystery basically lingering around to be solved.
Nevertheless, Vincent Van Gogh was the oldest of his siblings, three sisters and two brothers;
despite the fact his mother lost her

Personal Jurisdiction Of The State Of Florida
The appropriate court for this lawsuit depends upon several factors. Three important considerations
are personal jurisdiction, subject matter jurisdiction, and minimum contracts. Personal jurisdiction
pertains to the laws and facts involved in the lawsuit. Donald Margolin is suing a corporation,
Novelty Now. Corporations are subject to in personam jurisdictionin three locations: the state of
their incorporation, the location of their main offices, and the geographic areas in which they
conduct business. (Kubasek, 2011). For this case, because all parties are in different states, the
claim could be brought in federal court if the claimed damages exceed $75,000. It could also be
brought in state court because it does not involve subject... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the defendant, Novelty Now, has taken necessary action to exercise jurisdiction, it would
be unreasonable and a violation of due process. However the state courts could, by asserting a long
arm jurisdiction, have personal jurisdiction in New York. Since Chris, Matt, and Ian did not reside
or do business in New York, Novelty Now is not incorporated in New York, and Funny Face is
not manufactured in New York, they could argue that the State of New York does not have
jurisdiction. However, the court could argue that because Funny Face is advertised by radio,
Facebook, newspapers and internet that they had in fact done business in New York. This is an
example of minimum contacts and would provide New York with authority over the parties and this
case.
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) may be an option to resolve this dispute. ADR is a method
in which options other than litigation are used to resolve a dispute instead of going to trial. The
two most popular methods used are arbitration and mediation. Typically most corporations prefer
ADR as opposed to litigation because it is less time consuming, less expensive, and a resolution
can be agreed upon rather than going before a jury. Corporations also use ADR to protect their
assets. Matt, Chris and Ian, owners of Funny Face, claim on their website that they can not be taken
to court. Because Novelty Now owns the original compound found in

environment on her family(100). Many flaws exist within this family;however, the family still
seeks comfort in one another.
Although Martin s family faces dilemmas, the love in the family remains evident. Initially, the
devotion that Martin shows towards his children illustrates his good nature. Martin views his
children s faces as radiant as flower petals, equally loved (103). Moreover illustrating his love for
his children, Martin kissed the tiny hand that lay palm upward (103). Furthermore, Martin s hope
to hold his family together exhibits his affection for his family. Martin constantly attempts to
calm his wife in order to avoid displays of anger(101). Please go upstairs, (101) Martin begs of
his wife so the children do not get upset seeing their mother frustrated. Lastly, the physical and
emotional desire for Emily that Martin has, further shows how he cares for his family. Comforting
his wife, Martin exhibits his love for her(104). Martin watched Emily as she slept and his old anger
vanished (104).
McCullers fully examines the immense complexities of love (104) in depicting both the conflict an

ASPEN TECHNOLOGY INC.: Currency Hedging Review
1) What are Aspen Technology s main exchange rate exposures? How does Aspen Tech s business
strategy give rise to these exposures as well as to the firm s financing need?
The main exchange rates exposures are: British pounds, Deutsch Mark, Japanese Yen and Belgian
Francs.
Aspen faces foreign currency risks due to sales and expenses in those foreign currencies. Expenses
include R amp;D costs (20% of overall R amp;D are in UK), headquarters, sell force etc. and
represent 52% of Aspen expenses.
If Aspen sells its products in local currency, it s because its clients need to plan their P amp;L and

Per contra, the Belgian Francs is in SHORT position: the company will loose money if Belgian
Francs appreciate.
3) What goal would you recommend for the firm s currency risk management program? Why?
Based on your goal, what types of exposure should Aspen be measuring?
The company has to hedge its cash flow when it is in financial distress. When looking at their
account figures, we can t see any progressive corporate taxes and the R amp;D doesn t weight
enough to say Aspen is in financial distress. Furthermore, the company doesn t risk any default
costs. There are no real arguments here to take into account the need of hedging cash flows.
Nevertheless, the company Aspen needs to hedge its account. Indeed, they are in the case of
economic distress: they care about their image (they need to show their robustness to their
customers), they want to show the stability of the company (smoothing the account figures rather
than the cash flow), and even if they need cash, they want to avoid any impact to the clients.
4) Should the firm maintain its policy of completely eliminating all exposure on booked sales? If
not, what policy would you advocate and why?

Creating A Website For An Effective Website
Having a website allows your network to benefit from an online presence and educate customers
to its business. But what does it take to create such a website? What are the steps needed to
create and operate an effective website, a site that encourages customers to do business with
you? Technically, the creation of a single site is not something difficult: thousands of new sites
are appearing on the web on a daily basis. But this apparition proves to be a handicap in terms of
appearance and operation. Here are 6 steps to create a site likely to leave a favorable impression
in the minds of customers, actual and potential. 1. Think about the goal, to the look and feel of
your site Begin this discussion by assessing other similar sites in your industry or other network
sites. Determine what you think is useful or not useful at these sites. Ask yourself the following
questions: What connection is there between fashion design, use of illustrations and colors or tone
of the text and the activity itself? Does the site offers easy access to the information that most
customers have an immediate need? Will they want to visit it again, and why? Is it clear that the
information will be updated on a regular basis? The fact to consider other sites allow you to better
understand what you expect from yours. 3. Remove a domain name Your domain name is the
Internet address that users type into their browser to find your site. For example,
www.votreentrepise.com. You must file all domain

Overview of Cash Flow Management
Cash Flow Management
Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon.,
2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur.
Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This
requires good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow
projections helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without
understanding the cash flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure.
Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for
January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the
January expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits
from February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget
shows enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working
capital for expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget.
Mr. Morello would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can
sometimes be unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the
business needs are met in a timely manner.
In efforts to reduce the interest expense from a loan, community banks and the Small Business
Administration offer lower interest

I Am Proud At The United States Essay
When I came to the United States three years ago, I didn t know how to speak English at all. I
started learning this new language after only speaking Spanish for 16 years; it was certainly an
intimidating and daunting challenge. I thought it was going to be impossible for me to learn
English in time to attend a respectable university, since my surrounding peers were constantly
discouraging me. Through hard work and determination, I managed to learn how to fluently read
and write English like a native speaker in just a year and a half. I am blessed enough to say that I
now attend one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. Initially, I was ignorant to
the potential that laid dormant within me. Now, I understand that we, as people, limit ourselves by
paying attention to limitations rather than our ability to permeate and conquer them. Focusing on
our limits hinders our progression and prevents us from achieving our full potential. Society
inculcates us with the idea that we are born with a predetermined future, to which some of us who
lack critical thinking skills become robotically attached. We are raised with prearranged boundaries,
consequently, keeping our minds away from revolutionary ways of thinking. Instead of being
encouraged to think outside of the box, we are conditioned to remain inside that box. This is a
violence that we ourselves perpetuate; we hurt ourselves by underestimating our ability to transcend
beyond these artificial boundaries

The Dangers Of Al Capone During The Prohibition Era
Introduction
During the Prohibition Era, Al Capone was an extremely powerful gangster that ran Chicago s
underground. At his pinnacle, he led uncountable brothels and speakeasies in which he and his
syndicate could manage their various criminal acts, of which included illicit gambling,
prostitution, and the sale of alcohol, which of course was illegal at this time and thus how he
made the majority of his money. While exact numbers are not available, it is estimated that while
at the peak of his power, Capone had brought in well over $1 billion in today s currency and
employed over 600 gangsters in order to do his business and protect him (Simkin, Al Capone ).
When asked whether or not he was a criminal, Capone even cheekily responded, I make my
money by supplying a public demand. If I break the law, my customers who number hundreds of
the best people in Chicago, are as guilty as I am. The only difference is that I sell and they buy.
Everybody calls me a racketeer. I call myself a businessman (qtd. Simkin).
For years the police were led on a winding path in order to try and obtain evidence to convict
Capone, but they found it nearly impossible. By employing various tactics to cover up his tracks,
and making sure that he never did the dirty work himself, he was able to stay out of prison for
years. Finally convicted in 1931 for tax evasion, he was released prior to the termination of his
eleven year sentence in 1939 (Simkin). When he was released, Prohibition had been

Aristotle s Role Of Luck And Chance As Causes For Change
When discussing probability, a text of my previous reading came to mind. Within the lecture
Physics II, much of Aristotle s work is concerned with providing a definition for various events and
subjects, and as such, identifying the types of causes for each event is an important step in
accomplishing this goal. Aristotlespecifically investigates the role of luckand chance as causes of
change. Although we commonly speak of luck or chance as being a cause, Aristotle purposefully
refrains from including them in his explanation of causes. When giving an account of our
observable world, I agree with Aristotle in that there is no place for luck and chance as causes of
events, yet I believe they do have a role, namely in predicting future events.
Aristotle specifically separates causes into four different categories, material cause, formal cause,
efficient cause, and final cause. He defines these causes as that from which, as a constituent
present in it, ... the form i.e., the pattern, ... the source of the primary principle of change, ...
something s end . Respectively, these describe what something is made of, the form or pattern to
which is corresponds, the original source of change (closest to what we would associate with a
cause ), and the purpose of the change. Using the creation of a sculpture as an example, Aristotle
provides the bronze of a statue as a material cause, the shape of the state as the formal cause, the
actual sculpting of the statue as the efficient cause,

Nicolas Maduro s Machiavellian Struggle

Machiavelli s focus on pragmatism and realism seems to eliminate a worry about ethical
concerns. For example, Machiavelli s pragmatism, distinguish(es) between cruelty well used and
cruelty abused. (Machiavelli 30). One may argue Machiavelli s distinction smuggles in a level
of morality. In reality it is clear that this distinction is focused on the preservation of power in
order to allow, their subjects ... to let bygones be bygones (Machiavelli 30). Machiavelli makes
no moral distinction between the cruel actions he merely makes a distinction upon what will
best allow a ruler to maintain power. In The Discourses the emphasis of good policy being that
which creates stability again ignores morality finding that new rulers should remake everything
else in the state from scratch to do this they should, make the rich poor and poor rich.
(Machiavelli 131). He even gives substance to wicked deeds finding they involve, a certain
nobility (Machiavelli 132). This dramatic level of apathy to the right of the individuals or what
are good actions demonstrate his emphasis of preservation of stability over morality. After
examining core concepts of Machiavelli, how could his works have been used to help secure
support for Maduro directly after his election? Why the current situation unfolded? What course of
action would Machiavelli advise for Maduro to do in order to quell protests? Finally, a brief

Teaching and Learning Styles
It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally,
ethnically or socially (Montgomery Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in
the type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also
affects the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners.
(Gregorc, 1982) According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is the more or less consistent way in
which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information. Therefore it is
extremely vital that teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is
able to gain full knowledge of content taught and are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the
individual themselves.
There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the
later grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier Van Wyk, 2006) However by this
stage most learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn
by the style that best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of
mixing chemicals or gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information
by means of experiments and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be
enough to gain full understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students
lecturing is the best teaching method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time,
space and effectiveness. Yet lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not
have the skills to understand need more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and
ability influence the teaching style an educator may use when teaching particular content. (Lemmer,
Meier Van Wyk, 2006)
In conclusion it is inevitable that learners bring to the classroom a great diversity of learning
styles. So as for a teacher it is difficult to please all styles simultaneously, but if you vary the

Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life
Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those
words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more
underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for
meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of
are intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the
answers may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as
life.
The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on
the journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting.
Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey
because it is a sign of what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states,
this immaturity is self imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of
resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows
we are all capable of considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to
leap. He also feels that society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become
accustomed to remaining on what Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in

Nell Gwyn Research Paper
Research Paper In 1660 there was a major restoration in the theatre community. One of the most
impactful results of the restoration was the allowance of women on stage. Before the restoration
women s roles were played by young boys ( Women In Restoration Theatre on WordPress.com. ).
As one can imagine the appearance of women on stage did not settle easily with the common
population. The first women to hit the European stage, Nell Gwyn, did not make it easy for the
people to accept the new change either. Here are some reasons why. Nell Gwyn was born in
February 2, 1650. Her father died in a debtor s prison when she was an infant causing her to be
raise with her mother in the bawdyhouse of Covent Garden. Nell s sister, Rose, influenced her
to become a Orange Girl at Drury Lane Theatre ( Nell Gwyn. ). It did not take long for her talents
to be noticed. The same can also be said about the scandal around her to come. Nell stood out in
many ways, but she caught the eyes of many suitors due to her fiery red hair and gorgeous hazel
eyes. She did not have the typical look of the other women with dark hair and eyes. Nell was not
only beautiful; her fun and witty personality made her even more desirable. Charles Hart, leading
actor of the theatre, saw Nell s beauty and began his loveaffair with her (Abernethy, Susan).... Show

The Perspective Of The Global North
Yasinthan Nithyananthamoorthy ENG4U0 Ms. Michielin October 13, 2014 In the perspective
of the global north I believe that we are all living in the digital age. In the global north,
technology has been included into our daily lifestyle. Technology was first created to reduce
human effort. An example can be as simple as writing a book. Instead of using hand writing to
write you can use a computer. I know when I write down on paper there are many things that are
limited. Like when you constantly make mistakes and you start to erase a lot and the paper will
start to rip. Also when writing long essays, I start it get lazy and my handwriting gets sloppy and
in the end the essay isn t even readable. Where, when using a computer you can edit your work
from anywhere you want, there is different fonts to choose from and there are certain tools that
will help you like spell check and auto correct. This is when technology is put into great use
because it is used to help speed up the process of a simple thing that is used in our life. I believe
that it is amazing how technology has developed over the past few years because now, not only
does it simplify the things in life, it is now created to entertain us. Even though technology is
making our lives easier we must not depend on it too much because if we do, all the other things
that are important will start slowly disappearing, like books. The value of books are slowly
decreasing because of technology. B.O.O.K stands for the bank of

Comparing Chopin s The Interlopers And Story Of An Hour
When you go to compare and contrast, the first items you look for would probably be the
obvious, such as the plot. The Interlopers and Story of an Hour (Saki and Kate Chopin,
respectively) are not easily comparable in their plot, settings or subjects; however, the devices and
some main parts are the same. There are situational ironies in both. In The Interlopers, they are
fighting with each other and you expect one to die, then the story twists, and they become friends.
Then the story twists again, and the ending makes it seem like they both die. No, said Ulrich with

by a splitting crash over their heads, and ere they could leap aside, a mass of falling beech tree

In Story of an Hour, the main character observes the trees through the window, but not much else

Supreme Court. In the same year, the state of Texas passed the Flag Protection Act, which
prohibited any form of desecration against the American flag. This act provoked many people to
protest and burn flags anyway. Two protestors, Shawn Eichman and Mark Haggerty were charged
with violating the law and arrested. Both Eichman and Haggerty appealed the ... Show more content

While the Republican National Convention was taking place in Dallas in 1984, respondent
Johnson participated in a political protest. The purpose of this event was to protest the policies of
the Reagan administration and of certain Dallas based corporations. The demonstrators marched
through the Dallas streets, chanting political slogans and stopping at several corporate locations to
dramatize the consequences of nuclear war. On several occasions they spray painted the walls of
buildings and overturned potted plants, but Johnson himself took no part in such activities. He did,
however, accept an American flag handed to him by a fellow protestor. The demonstration ended in
front of Dallas City Hall, where Johnson unfolded the American flag, drenched it with kerosene, and
set it on fire. While the flag burned, the protestors chanted. No one was physically injured or
threatened with injury, though several witnesses had said that they had been seriously offended by
the flag burning.
Of all of the demonstrators, Johnson was the only person charged with a crime. The only criminal
offense with which he was charged was the desecration of a venerated object. After a trial, he was
convicted, sentenced to one year in prison, and fined $2,000. The Court of Appeals for the Fifth
District of Texas at Dallas affirmed Johnson s conviction, but the Texas Court of

Space Flight Research Paper
Before launching a rocket into the unknown, there are a number of factors that need to be
considered before taking flight. Over the past 200,000 years, humans have adapted well to life on
earth, through many generations. Manned missions to space have only been occurring for 55 years
and humans haven t had the chance to adapt to its harsh environment and this can take a toll on the
human body. The more serious effects of long term space flight include weightlessness (muscle
atrophy and deterioration of the skeleton); slowing of the cardio vascular system functions,
decrease in production of red blood cells, balance disorder and an overall weakening of the immune
system. Other minor effects on the human body include fluid redistribution, loss of body mass, nasal

Marathon Is A Running Event
Marathon is a running event that commemorates the 25 mile run of a Greek soldier from the
battlefield near the town of Marathon, Greece, to announce the victory ahead, to the anxious
citizens of Athens.
Modern day marathon is participated by runners in thousands, that came from all walks of life,
different experience level and from different parts of the globe. Some are born to run a marathon,
but most just started by taking small stride and training for their first run.
I did my first 3 years ago, when my wife signed me up exactly one month before the event (she did
her first the year prior) that it was like a baptism with fire.

However, in some way I got fascinated and curious after hearing the orientation and learning the

This is the same in the days after I got registered to run my first event and how I ardently developed

reading information from running publications about doing a marathon.
Eagerness and being resolve are feelings I remember stepping into unfamiliar grounds, or I should

The long stretch of open road and the hills that you must run, mile after mile to build stamina and
the long lectures and instructions both in the classroom and in your clinical site, that you must pay

curiosity and ambition is what drives me; both on the track and in the classroom, to move up to the

The Main Factors That Contributed Into Why The Jacobites...
Jacobites were the supporters of the king James VII of Scotland and king James II of England
ruled over Britain from 1685 1689 because he was roman catholic he was replaced by his
daughter Mary and her husband. Jacobites rising 1715 and 1745 was Charles Edward Stewart
attempting to regain the British and Scottish throne, there were several attempts of returning the
Stuarts to the throne but the closest to succeeding was between 1715and 1745. The essay will
look at the numerous factors that contributed into why the Jacobites cause failed. The 1715 and
1745 rebellion agonised from poor military leadership and tactic, the rising 1715 was led by John
Erskine, lord Mar, he was able to assemble around 10000 foot and horses. the strongest host to the
field against 4000. The clans had advanced only as far as Inverary which the clans failed to ake,
the clan abandoned the siege in favour of joining Mar s eastern force the battle of sheriff Muir.
Mar s indecisiveness cost the Stuart a lot because Mar waited for the French and duke of
Berwick help. He delayed the marching to the south from the strongholds in the southern highland
which was important part of the rising prior to the battle 4,000 pounds of Jacobites gun powder
were seized by the Whig magistrate of Aberdeen on thieve of the rising . When the rebellion broke

What Does It Mean To Be Brave
Bravery can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. Some people might think bravery is
mainly stupidity, but I can promise you it s plenty more than that. In order to achieve anything
you must be brave enough to fail. Be bold, be brave enough to be your true self. If it wasn t for
brave people in this world there is no telling where we might be right now. Everyone Is brave in
their own way. While some people think bravery means giving up and laying down or being
scared to face your fears, to me it means that it s a strive that keeps you going no matter what life
throws at you. Bravery is not giving up and laying down. There is a quote that I like very much
and it says The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress,

Compare And Contrast Divergent And The Hunger Games
Imagine a community where people do not have the opportunity to choose how and where they
live. A Utopian society is an ideal way to live, but with human nature, it will never work.
Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins are excellent examples
of a Utopian society. Divergent is about a girl named Tris who lives in a community that has
been living the perfect lifestyle for a long time. In Tris s city, the government gives people
medicine, so the people do not question the government. For most people, the drug works, but
for Tris and very few others, the medication does not work. The people in which the dose does
not accomplish what the government wants the medicine are considered divergent. The situation
is similar in The Hunger Games where Katniss does not agree with how the capital is doing
things. Even though both books are ideal, Divergent is a more realistic way to make a Utopian
society. Divergent and The Hunger Games are similar in the fact that both movies divide their
communities up and both main female characters fight for themselves and their loved one s lives.
Divergent and The Hunger Games both try to make the best community they can. Dividing the
communities into different groups allows people to excel in what they are great at. Divergent
groups the town up into five factions. At a young age, children are tested to see what faction they
should be in. In Divergent, the people control the government but in The Hunger Games the
government is run by the wealthiest people in the community, and those people do not care what
happens to the other people. Also in The Hunger Games, there are thirteen different districts and
the capital. Each district is a town that gives everything to the capital and receives nothing in
return. Divergent is more logical because the community works together and are all equal, while
The Hunger Games does not care what happens to the people in the districts because the games
are the hunger games is entertainment for the capital. In both stories, the main female characters,
Tris and Katniss, fight to save their lives and their loved one s lives. Tris tries to hide her
divergence as long as she could until Four, her lover, figures out. In

Funeral Rites Of Misenus
The introduction of Misenus into the beginning Book VI of the Aeneid demonstrates the Roman
belief that a dead body brings pollution: both physically and spiritually. In order to combat this
Aeneas is instructed to carry him to his place of rest and lay him in a tomb. Then you must bring
black cattle to begin purification . This purification ritual exemplifies the notion that a dead body
brings pollution to the community it is found within. The in depth funeral rites described in Book
VI in regards to Misenus exemplify the modern Roman belief and rituals regarding death. First
they lit a large pyre with Misenus armour placed on top. Secondly they heated water cauldrons to
wash and anointed his body and then placed him in his familial purple robes: further exemplifying
the importance of body purification. Then there are descriptions of lighting the pyre and offerings
being burnt: incense, sacrificial food, and bowls filled with oil. The ashes are then cooled with
wine and placed in a bronze casket that is then carried around the comrades thrice. Finally, in this
description, a mound is made and in this case called Mount Misenus: a lasting memory. The funeral
rites of Misenus demonstrate important, modern, roman qualities. In the Bronze Age, when the
myth of Aeneasis set, traditions toward burialand death were different. The fact that Virgildepicts
this ancient, mythological funeral in an Augustan Rome manner exemplifies the importance of this
burial, thus

Analysis Of Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning
Another reflection on society was Tony Isabella s 1995 Black Lightning; he was a perfect example
of how writers used comics as a medium to address race. He was a black protГ©gГ© who, due to
his own series being cancelled, later became a member of Batman s Outsiders. He was the first
black superhero in DC Comicsto get his own title series and because of this, he could not avoid
serving as a symbolic reminder of racial tokenism. Real name being Jefferson Pierce, a respectable
schoolteacher, Black Lightning has the most cynical method of keeping his identity a secret. His
pictorial representation proved that he lived up to the stereotypein wearing an afro wig as well as
his textual representation in talking street slang , as this would enable him to keep his identity a
secret and fit in with his black community. The use of black slang is a means for the white
creator to explore a way of speaking that he would not usually experience and despite the words
coming from Black Lightning, it was not a true black man s voice that was heard. The use of
street slang works with his pictorial representation to exaggerate a distinction between his heroic
identity and his civilian identity; slang not only has connotations of being less educated because it
is informal, but as it is slang only used by the same social group, i.e black people, it once again
places a large divide between whites and blacks.
This aspect completely opposes his civilian identity, as he talks good English and

Why We Shouldn T Go To Mars Essay
Two centuries ago, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark left St. Louis to explore the new lands
acquired in the Louisiana Purchase, They made that journey in the spirit of discovery. . . .
America has ventured forth into space for the same reasons. George W. Bush said. Although a
remarkable comparison, exploring space and exploring a new part of the continent are very
different. Lewis and Clark were certain that there was life on the continent whereas, space is a
completely different frontier. The articles, Why We Shouldn t Go To Mars, by Gregg Easterbrook,
Remarks at the Dedication of the Aerospace Medical Health Center, by JFK, and the NASAPolitical
Cartoon, analyzes the pros and cons of conducting research in space. Although, many believe...

In the text, Why We Shouldn t Go To Mars by Gregg Easterbrook, it states, If new launch systems
could put weight into orbit affordably, and if advanced propulsion could speed up that long, slow
transit to Mars, then the dream of stepping onto the Red Planet might become reality. Mars will
still be there when the technology is ready. (973) This articulates that humans do not have enough
technology right now to study space and scientists should spend some time researching on what
technology is best instead of rushing and finding technology to study space immediately.
Likewise, Mars is not going to disappear if researchers spend the time to gather information that is
beneficial. By researching, one can have a better idea of what Mars would be like when astronauts
explore it in the future. On the contrary, those in favor of space exploration may say that if scientists
take the time to collect information about space, the Earth will overpopulate even before astronauts
have the time to explore Mars. However, if researchers try to explore Mars right now, it would not
be successful due to the fact that humans do not have the necessary technology that is needed to
fulfill this intention. All in all, for humans to inhabit Mars, technology will have to be more
advanced to reach this

Meaning Of Happiness
There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of
disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The
authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it
takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role
does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors
have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould
argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he
believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas
Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path
within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of
Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you
have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the
person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different
manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone
can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to consider;
physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from material

Analysis of Against the Odds and Against the Common Good
The following two paragraphs are a summary of Gloria Jimenez s essay Against the Odds and
Against the Common Good. States should neither allow nor encourage state run lotteries. There are
five major arguments that people use to defend lotteries. One is that most lotteries are run honestly,
but if gamblingis harmful to society it is irrelevant to argue if they are honest or not. The second is
that lotteries create jobs, but there are only a small handful of jobs that would be eliminated if
lotteries were put out of business. Another argument that would support keeping lotteries is that,
other than gambling addicts, people freely choose to buy lotterytickets. This is true, however, there
are misleading advertisements that may cause people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support her side of the argument and to answer these counterarguments Jimenez share a few
statistics. She tells us that the New York Times reported in 2002, that the state run lotteries
brought in a revenue of $20 billion dollars, and that this is only 4% of the states income. She
also tells us about one study in a report from the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy that
shows people who earned $10,000 a year bought almost three times as many lottery tickets than
those who made $50,000 or more a year. This shows us that more poor people buy lotto tickets,
so more poor people are paying the taxes that benefit education and social services. In the second
to last paragraph, the author uses an analogy that compares state run lotteries to tobacco
products. She says that tobacco is harmful, and the state puts heavy taxes on it. They use the
revenue to treat people who have gotten sick from smoking and to persuade people not to
smoke. She doesn t apply this analogy to lotteries but assumes that we will think of how to link
this idea to lotteries on our own. Jimenez also makes a few other assumptions in her essay. She
doesn t explain to her readers what a state run lottery is and she doesn t tell us how the process
works. It is because of this that I can say that she assumes that her readers will know what a state
run lottery is. She writes that lotteries are harmful,

There are numerous motivational theories that have been discussed and tested. Different students
unknowingly, or sometimes knowingly, utilize different theories since no two students are alike.
Many teachers acknowledge that different students are motivated by different things, whether it be
intrinsic extrinsic, self efficacy or interest. Not only can gender and age differences affect
motivation, but the student s self efficacy and level of goal setting also affect the student s
motivation. As a teacher, it has been noted that certain students are motivated to do certain tasks
while others are not. In order to learn, students need to be motivated. One of the most difficult
challenges of teaching is fighting the battle of motivating the students, which then leads to
supporting them and helping them motivate themselves.
Textbook Summary
The textbook definition for motivation is the inner state that energizes, directs, and sustains
behavior. (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186) It goes on to state that humans usually tend to work with a
purpose. Motivation not only influences the activities that learners choose, but it also affects the
degree to which they engage in those activities (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186). While teachers do play a
big part in motivating students, motivation also has to come from within the students. In order for
students to feel motivated, they must have certain primary

Good Germs, Bad Germs
Many books that can be read will captivate you, can give you another world to live in, can sweep
you off of your feet and never set you back down again. Rarely can a book alter your view so
entirely about the world you live in, just by giving you more information about what exactly your
world is made up of. The book Good Germs, Bad Germs did this for me. Each chapter strategically
broke down the history of microbes and bacteriaand how they have been perceived (or not
perceived) throughout history. Each expanding step lists the theories that were building blocks
for the future of the study of microbes. From Nurse Nightingale, Colonel George Waring, Antoni
van Leeuwenhoek and Bonnie Bassler there were medical advances that helped the field of
medicine greatly. Even groups who did not believe in the germs made large steps to clean up the
population. Each person mentioned in the book had some sort of contribution to the start of
fighting against bacteria and viruses, with Nurse Nightingale disinfecting the work area, Waring
started cleaning up the streets and created the way to keep sewage separate from the drinking
water and Leeuwenhoek who identified bacteria in the first place. This entire book gives as much
information as possible without the reader needing a medical degree. It gave an in depth look at
the formation and the ability of bacteria to live within the body and outside the body and how the
body actually collects the bacteria. From attaining bacteria from the

  • 2. Contemporary Art Homework For my first passport assignment for anthropology, my friend and I visited the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art Museum (SMOCA). They had just revamped the place to represent woman artists from Aboriginal Australia. The exhibit was called Marking the Infinite . There were nine female artists in the exhibition who gave a glimpse into the diverse contemporary art practice of Aboriginal Australia. Their names are Nonggirrnga Marawili, Wintjiya Napaltjarri, Yukultji Napangati, Angela Pwerle, Carlene West, Regina Pilawuk Wilson, Lena Yarinkura, Gulumbu Yunupingu, and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu. They use their art to empower their all around respective communities and speak to universal contemporary themes. From all over different areas of Australia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, artist Lena Yarinkura began to experiment by using weaving to create representational forms such as animals and regional spirit figures supernatural creatures or ancestral beings that inhabited her country. Another artist, Carlene West underwent a rapid transformation; formal symbolic and narrative elements receded, giving way to more expressive painting. Her paintings offer a metaphor for the connection between place and indigenous identity. Anthropologist John Carty notes that, Carlene s marks are the traces of meaningful action; of the actions that made the world, and that continue to make the world meaningful; of the artist becoming an ancestor. Most of her art represents herself, her lifestyle or traditions; she puts meanings and backstories in her paintings for example to let the public know what she has been through. They represent themes that are universal contemporary, and tell the native understandings from the twenty first century. Lastly, seen at the exhibit were Larrakitj poles. Larrakitj were created by the people of Yolngu to hold bones of the dead. These poles were somewhat symmetrical, hollow and made out of eucalyptus trees. The surface of the pole was decorated with a detailed painting that represented the guide of the deceased leading them to their spiritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology Threatens Your Privacy Essay example Privacy threats are currently the biggest threat to National Security today. The threats are not only concerning to the government, however. An alarming 92% of Americans are concerned that the power grid may be vulnerable to a cyber attack (Denholm). Although this is a more recent development to the cyber threats we have experienced, this is not the first time that privacy threats have stepped into the limelight as people are forced to watch their every online move. There are twelve major ways technology threatens your online policy today. The first of these threats is phishing. According to Riva Richmond, phishing is a ploy to gain personal information that will help people to steal your identity. Hackers will send you fake e mails that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes you vulnerable as you just shared very personal information with everyone on the internet (Richmond). The history of your web use may not be a big deal to you but it reveals a ton of information. It reveals everything you have ever searched which means people can find out things like where you bank, work, and go to school. Targeted advertising and cookies also are a threat to privacy because companies collect a lot of information about us in order to figure out what we are likely to buy, and to place their advertisements on our webpages. They get this sensitive information through cookies which they place on our computers, which allow them to access our personal information. Cloud computing is also a huge threat because these sites, which often include e mail services, instant messaging, and document services, do not have security features which protect our privacy and the confidential things that we don t want other people to view (Richmond). Electronic medical data has also become a source of concern when it comes to our privacy. Although the federal government requires that medical data be kept private, it doesn t cover programs like Google Health or Microsoft s HealthVault in those protection laws which raises the risk of your medical information being breached. Public Wi Fi isn t exactly keeping our private information safe either. They often don t encrypt data which makes it easier for hackers to gain access ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of This Land Is Your Land, By Woody Guthrie This land is your land is one of the most famous song ever made. It was written and performed by Woody Guthrie in 1940. It has become a very iconic American song that is learned in school and performed by many famous artists. What is not known is, the true meaning of the song and what Woody Guthrie message he was trying to portray in his song. To most Americans they think of the song as a patriotic song , or the song that almost became our national anthem, but there is a deeper meaning to the patriotic lyrics we all know. Guthrie wrote the song as a protest song to protest the working class should have same rights as the rich, and america s lack of empathy for those in poverty, and there should be more done for those struggling in the working class and poverty. He believes America would thrive under a communist regime, where everyone is equal and make the same amount of money no matter how hard they work or how much they produce. All business and lands would be owned by the government and not the people as well. In other words, it s about how America should follow a communist regime cause to Guthrie, things were not going well under a democracy. The song is not about communism, rather tell about all the struggles for those in poverty and the working class and a communist way can solve it. It can be viewed from a non communists point of view but Guthrie intentions for the song was to support communism so everyone is equal. Woody Guthriewas born in Oklahoma in 1912. ... Jane Austen has created a very silly, vain man with immense family pride in Sir Walter Elliot. Sir Walter is extremely proud of his good looks, his family connections and above all, his baronetcy. He holds both Admiral and Mrs. Wallis in the highest regard, however, as they are both very handsome. The reader is not impressed with Sir Walter s ideas. Sir Walter is also impressed by people s family connections. He is eager to meet Lady Dalrymple, not because she is family, but because she is a Viscountess. These opinions Sir Walter holds and his reasons for acquainting himself with others very much emphasizes that Sir Walter is very conscious of his baronetcy. His pride is also apparent, as he is condescending to people whom he sees as of lower social class. Austen further develops Sir Walter through the actions and dialogue of others. Through the characters of Admiral Croft and Elizabeth Elliot, the reader s impression of Sir Walter is strengthened. Admiral Croft remarks to Annethat Sir Walter must be rather a dressy man for his time of life and Elizabeth, again to Anne, says: One would imagine ...but he abominates them. Sir Walter s extreme obsession with personal appearance is again emphasized, making him not well liked. Finally, Sir Walter s own dialogue condemns him further.

  • 12. Essay On The Trojan War During the time of the ancient Greeks, there was much tension between the Trojans and the Greeks, leading to the famous Trojan War. It all started when Paris, the prince of the magnificent city of Troy, abducted a woman after making a deal with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. There are many variations on how the war began and the battles that took place during it, but one event stayed for certain: The story of the large, wooden horse that lead to the downfall of Troy. Most of the information about this historical event was recorded in Homer s famous works, The Iliadand The Odyssey. The Trojan War was started by a petty feud between three goddesses, fought by brave warriors, and recorded in Homer s Iliad and Odyssey. Conflicts began between the Trojans and the Greeks began long ago when King Peleus, who later on became the father of the Trojan War hero, Achilles , married Thetis, a sea nymph. Their marriage was celebrated by the all of the gods except for the goddess of discord and strife, Eris, who was not included in the celebration, (History.com). Infuriated, Eris threw her gift, a golden apple who was to be gifted to the fairest, amongst the guest. This wedding lead to the Trojan War because of the feud between the three goddesses, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite, that occurred next. • 24. Overview of Cash Flow Management Cash Flow Management Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon., 2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur. Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This requires good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow projections helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without understanding the cash flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure. Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the January expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits from February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget shows enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working capital for expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget. Mr. Morello would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can sometimes be unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the business needs are met in a timely manner. Now, I understand that we, as people, limit ourselves by paying attention to limitations rather than our ability to permeate and conquer them. Focusing on our limits hinders our progression and prevents us from achieving our full potential. Society inculcates us with the idea that we are born with a predetermined future, to which some of us who lack critical thinking skills become robotically attached. We are raised with prearranged boundaries, consequently, keeping our minds away from revolutionary ways of thinking. • 27. Aristotle s Role Of Luck And Chance As Causes For Change When discussing probability, a text of my previous reading came to mind. Within the lecture Physics II, much of Aristotle s work is concerned with providing a definition for various events and subjects, and as such, identifying the types of causes for each event is an important step in accomplishing this goal. Aristotlespecifically investigates the role of luckand chance as causes of change. Although we commonly speak of luck or chance as being a cause, Aristotle purposefully refrains from including them in his explanation of causes. When giving an account of our observable world, I agree with Aristotle in that there is no place for luck and chance as causes of events, yet I believe they do have a role, namely in predicting future events. Aristotle specifically separates causes into four different categories, material cause, formal cause, efficient cause, and final cause. He defines these causes as that from which, as a constituent present in it, ... the form i.e., the pattern, ... the source of the primary principle of change, ... something s end . Respectively, these describe what something is made of, the form or pattern to which is corresponds, the original source of change (closest to what we would associate with a cause ), and the purpose of the change. For example, Machiavelli s pragmatism, distinguish(es) between cruelty well used and cruelty abused. (Machiavelli 30). One may argue Machiavelli s distinction smuggles in a level of morality. In reality it is clear that this distinction is focused on the preservation of power in order to allow, their subjects ... to let bygones be bygones (Machiavelli 30). Machiavelli makes no moral distinction between the cruel actions he merely makes a distinction upon what will best allow a ruler to maintain power. In The Discourses the emphasis of good policy being that which creates stability again ignores morality finding that new rulers should remake everything else in the state from scratch to do this they should, make the rich poor and poor rich. • 30. Teaching and Learning Styles It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally, ethnically or socially (Montgomery Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in the type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also affects the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners. (Gregorc, 1982) According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is the more or less consistent way in which a person perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information. Therefore it is extremely vital that teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is able to gain full knowledge of content taught and are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the individual themselves. There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the later grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier Van Wyk, 2006) However by this stage most learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn by the style that best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of mixing chemicals or gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information by means of experiments and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be enough to gain full understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students lecturing is the best teaching method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time, space and effectiveness. Yet lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not have the skills to understand need more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and ability influence the teaching style an educator may use when teaching particular content. • 31. Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of are intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the answers may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as life. The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on the journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey because it is a sign of what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states, this immaturity is self imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows we are all capable of considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to leap. He also feels that society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become accustomed to remaining on what Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in the further noting how experience effects our ... • 32. Nell Gwyn Research Paper Research Paper In 1660 there was a major restoration in the theatre community. One of the most impactful results of the restoration was the allowance of women on stage. Before the restoration women s roles were played by young boys ( Women In Restoration Theatre on WordPress.com. ). As one can imagine the appearance of women on stage did not settle easily with the common population. The first women to hit the European stage, Nell Gwyn, did not make it easy for the people to accept the new change either. Here are some reasons why. Nell Gwyn was born in February 2, 1650. Her father died in a debtor s prison when she was an infant causing her to be raise with her mother in the bawdyhouse of Covent Garden. Nell s sister, Rose, influenced her to become a Orange Girl at Drury Lane Theatre ( Nell Gwyn. ). It did not take long for her talents to be noticed. The same can also be said about the scandal around her to come. Nell stood out in many ways, but she caught the eyes of many suitors due to her fiery red hair and gorgeous hazel eyes. She did not have the typical look of the other women with dark hair and eyes. Nell was not only beautiful; her fun and witty personality made her even more desirable. The Perspective Of The Global North Yasinthan Nithyananthamoorthy ENG4U0 Ms. Michielin October 13, 2014 In the perspective of the global north I believe that we are all living in the digital age. In the global north, technology has been included into our daily lifestyle. Technology was first created to reduce human effort. An example can be as simple as writing a book. Instead of using hand writing to write you can use a computer. I know when I write down on paper there are many things that are limited. Like when you constantly make mistakes and you start to erase a lot and the paper will start to rip. Also when writing long essays, I start it get lazy and my handwriting gets sloppy and in the end the essay isn t even readable. Where, when using a computer you can edit your work from anywhere you want, there is different fonts to choose from and there are certain tools that will help you like spell check and auto correct. This is when technology is put into great use because it is used to help speed up the process of a simple thing that is used in our life. I believe that it is amazing how technology has developed over the past few years because now, not only does it simplify the things in life, it is now created to entertain us. Even though technology is making our lives easier we must not depend on it too much because if we do, all the other things that are important will start slowly disappearing, like books. • 44. Compare And Contrast Divergent And The Hunger Games Imagine a community where people do not have the opportunity to choose how and where they live. A Utopian society is an ideal way to live, but with human nature, it will never work. Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins are excellent examples of a Utopian society. Divergent is about a girl named Tris who lives in a community that has been living the perfect lifestyle for a long time. In Tris s city, the government gives people medicine, so the people do not question the government. For most people, the drug works, but for Tris and very few others, the medication does not work. The people in which the dose does not accomplish what the government wants the medicine are considered divergent. The situation is similar in The Hunger Games where Katniss does not agree with how the capital is doing things. Even though both books are ideal, Divergent is a more realistic way to make a Utopian society. Divergent and The Hunger Games are similar in the fact that both movies divide their communities up and both main female characters fight for themselves and their loved one s lives. Divergent and The Hunger Games both try to make the best community they can. Dividing the communities into different groups allows people to excel in what they are great at. Divergent groups the town up into five factions. At a young age, children are tested to see what faction they should be in. In Divergent, the people control the government but in The Hunger Games the government is run by the wealthiest people in the community, and those people do not care what happens to the other people. Also in The Hunger Games, there are thirteen different districts and the capital. Each district is a town that gives everything to the capital and receives nothing in return. Divergent is more logical because the community works together and are all equal, while The Hunger Games does not care what happens to the people in the districts because the games are the hunger games is entertainment for the capital. In order to combat this Aeneas is instructed to carry him to his place of rest and lay him in a tomb. Then you must bring black cattle to begin purification . This purification ritual exemplifies the notion that a dead body brings pollution to the community it is found within. The in depth funeral rites described in Book VI in regards to Misenus exemplify the modern Roman belief and rituals regarding death. First they lit a large pyre with Misenus armour placed on top. Secondly they heated water cauldrons to wash and anointed his body and then placed him in his familial purple robes: further exemplifying the importance of body purification. Then there are descriptions of lighting the pyre and offerings being burnt: incense, sacrificial food, and bowls filled with oil. The ashes are then cooled with wine and placed in a bronze casket that is then carried around the comrades thrice. Finally, in this description, a mound is made and in this case called Mount Misenus: a lasting memory. The funeral rites of Misenus demonstrate important, modern, roman qualities. He was the first black superhero in DC Comicsto get his own title series and because of this, he could not avoid serving as a symbolic reminder of racial tokenism. Real name being Jefferson Pierce, a respectable schoolteacher, Black Lightning has the most cynical method of keeping his identity a secret. His pictorial representation proved that he lived up to the stereotypein wearing an afro wig as well as his textual representation in talking street slang , as this would enable him to keep his identity a secret and fit in with his black community. The use of black slang is a means for the white creator to explore a way of speaking that he would not usually experience and despite the words coming from Black Lightning, it was not a true black man s voice that was heard. The use of street slang works with his pictorial representation to exaggerate a distinction between his heroic identity and his civilian identity; slang not only has connotations of being less educated because it is informal, but as it is slang only used by the same social group, i.e black people, it once again places a large divide between whites and blacks. Mars will still be there when the technology is ready. (973) This articulates that humans do not have enough technology right now to study space and scientists should spend some time researching on what technology is best instead of rushing and finding technology to study space immediately. Likewise, Mars is not going to disappear if researchers spend the time to gather information that is beneficial. By researching, one can have a better idea of what Mars would be like when astronauts explore it in the future. On the contrary, those in favor of space exploration may say that if scientists take the time to collect information about space, the Earth will overpopulate even before astronauts have the time to explore Mars. However, if researchers try to explore Mars right now, it would not be successful due to the fact that humans do not have the necessary technology that is needed to fulfill this intention. • 49. Meaning Of Happiness There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holinessthe Dalai Lamawould argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas Jeffersonwould explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness, there are two things to consider; physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come from material ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Analysis of Against the Odds and Against the Common Good The following two paragraphs are a summary of Gloria Jimenez s essay Against the Odds and Against the Common Good. States should neither allow nor encourage state run lotteries. There are five major arguments that people use to defend lotteries. One is that most lotteries are run honestly, but if gamblingis harmful to society it is irrelevant to argue if they are honest or not. The second is that lotteries create jobs, but there are only a small handful of jobs that would be eliminated if lotteries were put out of business. Another argument that would support keeping lotteries is that, other than gambling addicts, people freely choose to buy lotterytickets. This is true, however, there are misleading advertisements that may cause people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support her side of the argument and to answer these counterarguments Jimenez share a few statistics. She tells us that the New York Times reported in 2002, that the state run lotteries brought in a revenue of $20 billion dollars, and that this is only 4% of the states income. She also tells us about one study in a report from the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy that shows people who earned $10,000 a year bought almost three times as many lottery tickets than those who made $50,000 or more a year. This shows us that more poor people buy lotto tickets, so more poor people are paying the taxes that benefit education and social services. In the second to last paragraph, the author uses an analogy that compares state run lotteries to tobacco products. She says that tobacco is harmful, and the state puts heavy taxes on it. They use the revenue to treat people who have gotten sick from smoking and to persuade people not to smoke. She doesn t apply this analogy to lotteries but assumes that we will think of how to link this idea to lotteries on our own. Jimenez also makes a few other assumptions in her essay. She doesn t explain to her readers what a state run lottery is and she doesn t tell us how the process works. It is because of this that I can say that she assumes that her readers will know what a state run lottery is. She writes that lotteries are harmful, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Research On Educational Psychology Assignment Barbara Jones EDU 614 Dr. C 2 February 2015 Research in Educational Psychology Assignment Topic There are numerous motivational theories that have been discussed and tested. Different students unknowingly, or sometimes knowingly, utilize different theories since no two students are alike. Many teachers acknowledge that different students are motivated by different things, whether it be intrinsic extrinsic, self efficacy or interest. Not only can gender and age differences affect motivation, but the student s self efficacy and level of goal setting also affect the student s motivation. As a teacher, it has been noted that certain students are motivated to do certain tasks while others are not. In order to learn, students need to be motivated. One of the most difficult challenges of teaching is fighting the battle of motivating the students, which then leads to supporting them and helping them motivate themselves. Textbook Summary The textbook definition for motivation is the inner state that energizes, directs, and sustains behavior. (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186) It goes on to state that humans usually tend to work with a purpose. Motivation not only influences the activities that learners choose, but it also affects the degree to which they engage in those activities (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186). While teachers do play a big part in motivating students, motivation also has to come from within the students. In order for students to feel motivated, they must have certain primary ... • 52. Good Germs, Bad Germs Many books that can be read will captivate you, can give you another world to live in, can sweep you off of your feet and never set you back down again. Rarely can a book alter your view so entirely about the world you live in, just by giving you more information about what exactly your world is made up of. The book Good Germs, Bad Germs did this for me. Each chapter strategically broke down the history of microbes and bacteriaand how they have been perceived (or not perceived) throughout history. Each expanding step lists the theories that were building blocks for the future of the study of microbes. From Nurse Nightingale, Colonel George Waring, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and Bonnie Bassler there were medical advances that helped the field of medicine greatly. Even groups who did not believe in the germs made large steps to clean up the population. Each person mentioned in the book had some sort of contribution to the start of fighting against bacteria and viruses, with Nurse Nightingale disinfecting the work area, Waring started cleaning up the streets and created the way to keep sewage separate from the drinking water and Leeuwenhoek who identified bacteria in the first place. This entire book gives as much information as possible without the reader needing a medical degree. It gave an in depth look at the formation and the ability of bacteria to live within the body and outside the body and how the body actually collects the bacteria. From attaining bacteria from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
