Classification Of Student Learning Essay
4.2 Classification of student learning process
To learn is to acquire knowledge or skill. Learning also may involve a change in attitude or
behavior. Children learn to identify objects at an early age; teenagers may learn to improve study
habits; and adults can learn to solve complex problems. Pilots and aviation maintenance technicians
(AMTs) need to acquire the higher levels of knowledge and skill, including the ability to exercise
judgment and solve problems. The challenge for the aviation instructor is to understand how people
learn, and more importantly, to be able to apply that knowledge to the learning environment. This
handbook is designed as a basic guide to educational psychology. This chapter addresses that branch
of psychology directly concerned with how people learn.
Human learning may occur as part of education, personal development, schooling, or training. It
may be goal oriented and may be aided by motivation. The study of how learning occurs is part of
neuropsychology, educational psychology, learning theory, and pedagogy. Learning may occur as a
result of habituation or classical conditioning, seen in many animal species, or as a result of more
complex activities such as play, seen only in relatively intelligent animals. Learning may occur
consciously or without conscious awareness. Learning that an aversive event can t be avoided nor
escaped is called learned helplessness. There is evidence for human behavioral learning prenatally,
in which habituation

Research Paper On New England Colonies
The New England colonies consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and
Connecticut. These colonies were settled by Puritans in the 1600s. The tension between Puritans
and the Church of England caused England to divide, and the Puritans decided to go to the New
World. They left their native lands to go to a place where they could practice their religionwithout
getting in trouble (OER Textbook Settling New England). The Middle colonies were New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. These colonies were the most diverse and had the best
economy. New York was founded after the English conquered the land from the Dutch. After taking
it, they renamed it New York after the Duke of York. The land was later split and formed the

Comparing Augustine s Imperative To The Creation Of God
1.This matters because although we cannot see God, he is there. It may seem as though God is far
away when he sitting on his throne, but as Augustine states, it is not a matter of spatial distance.
WE cannot see or feel the distance, although it is there, and while we are not physically standing
with Him, Godis holding us in His hands.
2.The formlessness is so imperative to the creation of this world because it intensifies God s power.
He created so much out of nothing. Out of absolute blackness and formlessness. Without
understanding what God started with to create what he did, we cannot fully understand and
imagine His great power.
3.He inserts this bit of poetry as he writes on God s great creation as he remembers how he did not

The Cold Chill
Rebecca, looked at the building in front of her and immediately felt a cold chill, with every step
she kept asking herself, have I made a mistake? The hesitant walk to the front entrance felt like an
eternity, as the evening air grew dark. Refusing to turn back, she took a deep breath and geared
herself up to go in.
The door was easier than expected to unlock, and as she entered in to the past she knew then, there
was no going back. Alone in the pub, with nothing but her own thoughts, Rebecca, sensed a small
amount of success.
Irrational fear followed her every move; she even considered turning around and getting the hell out
of there. But seconds later Rebecca, found herself just inches away from the basement, surrounded

Nick, we can t keep avoiding the past. Isn t that why we re here?
Yeah, but for tonight it s enough, we can come back to tomorrow day.
Whilst Nick, drove the unfamiliar streets of Cooling, Rebecca, softly spoke, it s been almost a

Nick, gave a gentle nod.
I remember the first time I met Ethan, nothing on earth could have readied me for what was to

The Gonzales V. Raich
Gonzales v. Raich was a landmark case which determined the extent that Congress could regulate
marijuana usage in California. More precisely, the case involves deliberation between the
constitutionality of the Compassionate Use Act, voted on by the state of California in 1996, and
the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), passed by Congress in 1970. Does the CSA, a policy which
permits the regulation of certain drugs and chemicals by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA),
exceed the regulations set under the Commerce Clauseof the Constitution? Does the Compassionate
Use Act, which allows for the use of medical marijuana in California, protect citizen s rights to use
and distribute marijuana for medicinal purposes? The decision made by the Supreme Court would
spark debate over these questions as well as similar topics such as federal abuse of power, doctor
patient confidentiality, and the decriminalization of marijuana across America. In my paper, I will
cover the events and influences leading up to the Supreme Court s official decision, the significance
of the outcome, and the questions and issues brought up in the aftermath of Gonzales v. Raich.
In 1996, California voters passed the Compassionate Use Act, which allowed for the cultivation
and usage of marijuana for limited medical purposes. The proposition was the statewide ballot on
the issue of medical marijuana which had been passed. It was enacted with 55% of the population
in favor, 45% opposed, a fact which in and of itself

the context of the original document remains the same. A living document interpreted as the current

Emily Dickinson And Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Emily Dickinson and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow both used symbolism to bring their poems
more depth and understanding. The two authors wrote poems about life events and had very similar
approaches. The way they viewed life was very different from the other authors because they used
optimism in their poems which expressed the meaning more deeply. The symbolism they both used
was hidden, but once found it brought new and intriguing thoughts to their poems. These two
authors both had very powerful ideas, which was put into poetryand influenced the minds of many
people. The poem, Hope , by Emily Dickinsonis about a bird and throughout the poem you realize
that the bird is not a bird at all, but symbolizes hope. The poem talks about the challenges that the
bird has to go through to keep hope alive. In one stanza it talks about a dark, terrifying storm,
which represents challenges in life. The bird still stays above the storm and this helps further
the idea that hope is with you even in the darkest times. For example, I ve heard it in the chillest
land and on the strangest Sea yet never and Extremity, it asked a crumb of me (Dickinson). This
quote through the symbolism of the bird is saying that even when hope is pushing its limits it
will never ask anything of you. This poem was beautifully written and emphasizes how
important hope is to people in their daily lives. The poem by Longfellow is called, The Tide
Rises, the Tide Falls . This poem is filled with symbolism, for example in the third stanza there is
a traveler and his footprints are in the sands and then they are not; this represents the traveler
dying. The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls, Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls; The
day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveller to the shore, And the tide rises, the tide falls
(Longfellow). In this quote the waves are life and the purpose of the last line is to announce that
life will keep happening even if people die. He is optimistic about this because his theory is that
people can still do things even though their time is short on this Earth. He obviously wants to
make this theory known because he repeats the line The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls at the end of
every stanza.The two

Analysis Of The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli
Mankind has never answered this age old question: Is man inherently good? There are different
arguments for both sides, however most would agree that humans should strive to be good.
Interestingly, Niccolo Machiavelli in his work The Prince would disagree. Written for the
Medici lords, The Prince offers advice on how to obtain and rule a principality. To do this, he
must first explain the nature of man and adjust the method of ruling them accordingly. Machiavelli
believes humans by nature are corrupt, so the Prince must also be corrupt to succeed. In order to
prove Machiavelli s opinion, it is first necessary to understand what he defines as success.

Therefore, success for Machiavelli is sustaining power over a principality. Next it must be
proved that Machiavelli believes men by nature are cruel and corrupt. When talking about the
necessity of cruelty in leaders, he says, a man who wants to make a profession of good in all
regards must come to ruin among so many who are not good (p.61). Here he seems to believe that
the general populace is not good. He does not allude to any choices that would cause this cruelty, so
we can infer that he believes humans by nature are corrupt. He discourses on qualities that are
praised in a prince such as faith, humanity, and honesty but laments that he cannot have them, nor
wholly observe them, since human conditions do not permit it (p.62). These human conditions
that Machiavelli refers to must be the corruption of man, as there is no other reason for a prince
to not observe these qualities. If men were good, it would be obvious for a prince to rule with
good virtues, but since they are not he must adjust his morals to fit his people s. In addition to
this, he teaches the prince to use one of two kinds of combat when it comes to ruling the people:
one with beasts and one with man. Having never mentioned ruling animals before, the reader can
conclude that he is referring to men who are wicked by nature. He explains that one must use laws

Uses And Uses Of Virtualization
Virtualization is being able to give a physical device the power, through the use of software, to
do more than that physical device was technically designed and able to do (Santana, 2014, p.
12). For example, a server can only run one operating system at a time. However, when a
hypervisor is used in a server, the hypervisor is a layer of software that acts like the server itself
so that many operating systems can be run from that one server. The hardware, in this case a
server, has been virtualized. The goal is to use all of the computer s resources all of the time, and
the only way to do that is to have enough things running that the resources are being used
consistently and efficiently. An analogy for this could be online classes. If each teacher only had
one student, the teacher s resources of time and expertise would not be utilized efficiently because
that one student will not need help all day, every day. If the teacher is assigned to fifteen students,
the students can still get help when needed from the teacher, and they would not even be aware
that they are not alone in the class. Because it is an online class, the teacher does not need any
more physical resources to teach an entire class than was needed for one student. The students are
receiving the benefits of being taught by that teacher without needing to be with him or her
physically. 2. Please define, in your own words, what a data center is and what virtualization means
in this environment. Data

On 25 December 800, Pope Leo III crowned the Frankish king Charlemagne as Emperor, reviving
the title in Western Europe after more than three centuries. The title continued in the Carolingian
family until 888 and from 896 to 899, after which it was contested by the rulers of Italy in a
series of civil wars until the death of the last Italian claimant, Berengar, in 924. The title was
revived in 962 when Otto I was crowned emperor, fashioning himself as the successor of
Charlemagneand beginning a continuous existence of the empire for over eight centuries. Some
historians refer to the coronation of Charlemagne as the origin of the empire,[14][15] while others
prefer the coronation of Otto I as its beginning.[16][17] Scholars generally concur,

Egalitarianism In Australia
Introduction
Australian society is often defined as egalitarian since the government equally accepts the diversity
of population regardless of their personal backgrounds, socioeconomic status, health condition and
political opinions. The society is supposed to attach importance to the fair civil liberties, protect
local industries and provide every resident with welfare support, the opportunity of education and
employment. However, after world economy crisis brought great global change in the 1980s,
Australian political policy dramatically changed into profitability toward this competitive global
economy. This includes the decrease in protectionism, privatization of institutions, further

After the federation in 1901, this nation practiced protectionism for national industrial development
such as iron, steel, woolen goods, and motors. The regime set more than 60 percent tariff wall for
import and export to secure local income and employments in growing population. Consequently
the allocation of importation in Australia conserved more than 80 percent for the local markets, but
also maintained generous working conditions for employers and employee (Abbott, 1997). The
regime also focused on the wage fairness and providing welfare benefits based on the needs of
families and the individuals to maintain their standard living (Anderson, 1938). The government
practiced strong encouragement and created an environment for working and middle class
population to participate in universities with financial support between the 1940s and the 1990s.
Naturally, the university system and the governmental policy resulted in an increase rate of
university students and the low level of employment, which was around three percent in 1940 1970
(Gale Parker, 2013; Loundes, 1997). There were supports for persons who have chronicle diseases
and the government provided state government housing for population who had financial
difficulties. Therefore, this country started to be called welfare state (Greig et al.,

Cultural Trends In Fashion
Trends in the fashion world are greatly influenced by social cultural changes. Social change deals
with any big change over time in behavior patterns and in cultural values. Fashion and clothing is
more than just what we wear but the way we choose to live our lives which relates back to culture.
There are three key sources in trends for fashion, high culture, pop culture, and low culture. High
cultureis mainly about the visual kinds of art. Visual arts can range anywhere from paintings to
architecture and design. A designer is able to take note on a piece of art that inspires him or her
to incorporate into their clothing designs. Pop culture is highly influenced by celebrities who
spend most of their everyday lives in the mainstream. Pop culture influences the way we look.
For example, TV shows that dress the cast very fashionably such as the show, that was popular in
the 80 s Dynasty to the 90 s into the year 2004 the show Sex in the City, everyone wanted to dress
like the protagonist in those popular TV series. Subculture is local street movements such as hip
hop and graffiti. Subculture is mainly seen in surf and skateboard culture from the 70 s up until
today.
If culture can influence the paintings we paint and the clothes that we wear, then it certainly does
have an impact on the poems we write. Poetry is an art form in which human language is used for
its aesthetic qualities. Poems are often written based on something a poem has dealt with or has
overcome in their

Benjamin Disraeli s Consolidation Of Political Power
For centuries countries around the world have fought over which political party would benefit their
countries the most. In Europe, during the nineteenth century Benjamin Disraeli and William
Gladstone stole the stage in trying to transform the government that would benefit society.
Gladstone and Disraeli both explored the conservative and liberal parties, but in the end they
remained with the party and beliefs that suited them the most. Although they both faced many
challenges with the economy, they overcame a majority of them through reforms and building a
strong political structure. All over Europe transformations were taking place from changing
political alignments to structuring the perfect government, which allowed for several domestic

He began as a liberal, but Disraeli became quickly mainly motivated by the power to win over the
new group of the conservative party. Originally, Robert Peel created the conservative party, but
when it failed, Disraeli took over becoming the leader. His main reform was the Reform Act of
1867, which became a major step toward the rebuilding of the system in Britain. This reform
decreased the monetary requirements for voting, but it was still based on land qualifications, and
increased the amount of individuals voting from one million to two million people.
Disraeli believed this reform would appeal to the working classes and eventually benefit the
conservative party. He was highly motivated by winning, but he was extremely flexible in handling
parliamentary reform and structuring a strong political system that worked. Disraeli s political party
was successful, but he did not instill a lot of reform into society to help society out tremendously.
Many of his beliefs are still permanent beliefs in the conservative party today, such as supporting

Manifesto Of Surrealism
What is surrealism? Surrealism is a revolution, pure psychic automatism, an attack of
conscience, and a new mode of pure expression according to its founder AndrГ© Breton. In his
highly controversial texts, Manifestoes of Surrealism, Breton exposes us to this new term he
coined along with his colleague Philippe Soupault in homage to Guillaume Apollinaire, someone
whom they believed had followed the discipline, and he explains the phenomenon in detail so
that more can become aware and utilize the technique. Drawing heavy influences from Sigmund
Freud and Karl Marx, Breton reveals to us the limitless opportunities of surrealism and how it
frees us from everyday reality, similar to how the exoteric texts challenged us to question our
beliefs. I The first Manifesto of Surrealism was published in 1924 succeeding dadaism, an art
movement of the European avant garde often regarded as the movement that brought forth
postmodern art. At the time of its publication, Europe was still reeling from World War I and art
was very much political. Breton and other surrealists wanted to break free from the conventional
art if the times and express the imagination as revealed in dreams. Thus, the Manifesto of
Surrealism came about in which Breton discussed the importance of merging dream and reality. In
Breton s view, one can learn to ascend to perception of a higher reality (the surreal), or more

Grunge Research Paper
Grunge, a genre of alternative rock that includes elements of punk rock and heavy metal, emerged
in the early 1990s, primarily in Seattle. The term grunge comes from the slang adjective grungy ,
meaning ugly, run down and dirty.
Grunge is often described as distortion filled, down tuned rock that is based off of riffs, using loud
electric guitar feedback and heavy bass lines to support the song s melodies. Instrumentation usually
consisted of an electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and a vocalist.
Electric guitars were the dominant instrument in the grunge style, with heavy distortion and fuzz
pedals creating growling, overdriven guitar sounds. Wah wah pedals were also sometimes used to
change the tone colour of guitars. Amps were usually only used to increase the dynamics, and all of
the sound manipulation was done through overdrive and fuzz pedals. Another method used to
manipulate the guitar sound in grunge music is using guitar feedback effects. This ... Show more

Grunge singers typically used deeper and lower tones to mirror the themes of the lyrics. Three of
the most influential grunge singers were Layne Staley of Alice in Chains who was known for his
ability to convey power and vulnerability, Nirvana s Kurt Cobain, known for his slurred
articulation and harsh timbre and Pearl Jam s Eddie Vedder, who displayed a depth of expression
through his powerful vibrato.
Grunge lyrics are commonly dark and angst filled, surrounding themes such as depression, social
ostracisation, lack of interest, political concerns and the desire for freedom. The lyrics often
questioned society, contained explicit drug references and demonstrated concern for social issues,
particularly those that affected the world s youth. The authenticity of the lyrics and passion behind

International Trade Theories Essay
International Trade Theories Mercantilism
Mercantilism was a sixteenth century economic philosophy that maintained that a country s wealth
was measured by its holdings of gold and silver (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). This
recquired the countries to maximise the difference between its exports and imports by promoting
exports and discouraging imports. The logic was transparent to sixteenth century policy makers if
foreigners buy more goods from you than you buy from them, then the foreigners have to pay you
the difference in gold and silver, enabling you to amass more treasure. With the treasure acquired
the realm could build greater armies and navies and hence expand the nation s global influence. ...

In An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776), Smith attacked the
intellectual basis of mercantilism and demonstrated that mercantilism actually weakens a country.
Smith maintained that a country s true wealth is measured by the wealth of all its citizens, not just
that of its monarch (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998).
A country is said to be more productive than another country, if it can produce more output
(goods) for a given quantity of input, such as labour or energy inputs. An example is that there are
only two countries, Australia and Japan. They both produce computers and wine, and only one
factor of production, labour. Japan produces 6 computers for every 1 bottle of wine, where as
Australia produces only 4 computers for every 3 bottles of wine. This suggests that Australia should
export some of its wine to Japan, and Japan should export some of its computers to Australia.
Australia has an absolute advantage over Japan, when producing wine, and Japan has an absolute
advantage over Australia, when producing computers (Gandolfo, 1998).
Economists use the term absolute advantage when comparing the productivity of one person, firm
or nation with that of another. The producer that requires a smaller quantity of inputs to produce a
good is said to have an absolute advantage in producing that good (Gans, King, Mankiw, 1999).

us today. I think this because Romans invented so many things that helped us and inspired us today
in modern day life.
An example of modern day people being influenced is the ancient Romans building bridges. In the
contributions of rome The Romans were the ones to build bridges so they could get across waters
to fight their enemies in battle. If the Romans hadn t built bridges we wouldn t have any way to

outline the different forms of verbal and non-verbal...
Communication is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts,
messages or information; as by speech, visuals, signals, written work or behaviour. It is the
meaningful exchange of information between two or more living creatures. Communication
requires a sender, a message and a recipient although the receiver does not have to be present or
aware of the sender s intent to communicate at the time of communicationthus communication can
occur across vast distances in time and space. Communication works in two systems which are
verbal communication and non verbal communication whose forms this essay seeks to outline and
discuss. Verbal communication is communication through a figure of speech and non verbal... Show

Furthermore, it takes more time in composing a written message as compared to word of mouth
and a number of people struggle for writing ability.
On the other hand, the other system of communication is non verbal communication. Non verbal
communication is the sending or receiving of wordless messages. Therefore communication other
than oral and written, such as gesture, body language, posture, tone of voice or facial expressions is
called non verbal communication. According to Mehrabian (1972) non verbal communication
describes the process of conveying meaning in the form of non word messages . Non verbal
communication helps the receiver in interpreting the message received. Often, non verbal signals
reflect the situation more accurately than verbal messages. Sometimes non verbal responses
contradict verbal communication and hence affect the effectiveness of message.
More so, non verbal communication has three elements which are; appearance, body language and
sounds. Appearance includes the speaker, clothing, hairstyle, neatness and use of cosmetics, more
so, surrounding and furnishings. Body language includes facial expressions, gestures and postures.
Sounds includes voice tone, volume and speech rate. According to Martes (2011) forms of non

Definition Of Love At First Sight
Have you ever seen some one for the first time and felt like they were the one? Did you know if
they were really the one ? Do you know what love is? Was it love at first sight? Some people may
claim it was love at first sight and some may claim it was not. There are many arguments against
love at first sight, which most do not believe in it. Loveat first sight can be known to be an
instantaneous attraction to someone or something. That definition sounds a lot like lust, does it
not? Lust is having a very strong sexual desire for someone. Now, love at first sight is more
instant than lust, but they both have a similar definition. You cannot fall in love with some one by
looks therefore love at first sight is not real. There are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Love at first sight, this shows you can love the looks of something at first sight but cannot
necessarily fall in love at first sight. Not everyone has the views or opinions of looks. For
example, a tourist had wanted to see the Grand Canyon his whole life and when he finally got
the chance to see it, he was very disappointed. He expected the Grand Canyon to be what he saw
in pictures and postcards. After he realized it wasn t what he expected, he somewhat regretted
going. This is what I believe love at first sight is. You do not know what to really expect and once
you learn more about the person, you are disappointment because it is not what you expected.
Having expectations are not always good, they can lead to

goes by so do people who have higher expectations for Hollywood. People begin to see that they
are not showing enough diversity in movies or selecting Award winners that are from a different
minority that makes it lose thousands of people from watching the show which is a failure money
wise. To conclude, whitewashing has been another main problem in the Filmindustries as more
movies come out with more diverse characters they are not always played by the type of minority
the character is supposed to be.
Researchers have stated that if things were to change within the TV productions then maybe there
could be a change financially. There are many statistics that show that many shows and movies
do not seem to grow and researchers have stated that it could be because of the lack of diversity
that many people may get bothered by. However, the 25 movies with casts 21 to 30 percent Black

The next highest median global box office came from films with 11 to 20 percent Blacks/Latinos

of just $68.5 million (Lin). This shows that if TV shows and movies were to change the racial
diversity in their shows or movies that they could possibly have a high positive effect instead of
continuing not to grow. The research

Similarities Between Virginia And The Caribbean
During particular time periods whichever product rose to popularity, whether it be cotton, rum,
tobacco, or sugar, became the means of buying and selling or trading. Two major products that the
people of the new world depended on during the early colonial times were tobacco and sugar. Both
Virginia and the Caribbeanwere able to be successful and bloom due to these two major products.
Virginia and the Caribbean had many similarities as well as differences on how they changed
economically and socially due to tobacco and sugar plantations. John Rolfe, the father of the
tobacco industry, was the reason why tobacco made its way to America. Soon after tobacco was

Tobacco did not require much to process, unlike sugar that required advanced technology as
well as multiple laborers. Within a year tobacco was able to be produced, however sugar took
longer. Sugar cultivation became a business that only farmers with a lot of money could succeed
in due to the need for land and for labor to clear the fields and to run the mills. However almost
anyone could farm tobacco because it was easily planted and didn t cost as much. In Virgina,
tobacco became such a high demand that fields everywhere were used for tobacco plantations.
However farmers repeatedly used the same land over and over, ruining the soil. This limited
Virginia s fortunes to the irregular price of a single crop. The high demand for sugar in the
Caribbeans also wiped out all other forms of Caribbean agriculture. Which led to the dependence
on the north american mainland for other food supplies and basic supplies. When it comes to
tobacco and sugar plantations, both the Caribbean and Virginia were affected socially and
economically. As the plantations grew, slaves became a major factor in farming the lands. This
soon lead to the Civil War due to the differences between the free and slave states over the power of
the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories

Lab Performed 03/11/15 Lab Report 04/07/15
Abstract:
Using solutions of sugar and water alongside cola, density and percent sugar can be related. The
purpose of this lab is to discover how and with what benefit these factors can be related. Using
assorted measurements and the standard curve of the calculated densities and percentages of sugar
solutions, it was learned that cola has an approximate percent sugar of four percent, according to the
calculations of the lab. Other results included actual percent sugar of soda and various statistics on
measured sugar solutions. Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to explore how density can be used to measure sugar content and percent
sugar of beverages not only in the lab, but in the real world. Using the standard curve of the
percent sugar and density of the solutions in the lab, the percent sugar of regular Coke was
determined. The standard curve represented the general trend in the correlation of the values
calculated in the lab. Using the data from the experiment, the actual amount of sugar in the soda
could be calculated by using the percent sugar found by using the standard curve. (If the soda has
a mass of x and the percent sugar is the value y, x в—Џ y = mass of sugar.)
Of course, the simple calculation of percent sugar dividing the mass of the sugar by the mass of the
solution can be

The Brain Is An Ever Elusive Thing
The brain is an ever elusive thing. There are so many mysteries still waiting to be discovered or
unlocked. Memory seemed an appropriate topic for this class as it is a necessity to completing it
successfully. This research paper will explain how the brain uses synapses to store certain
memories while others may be lost and how proteins play a major role in this process and could be
the answer to solving memory problems in the future.
To start, it is important to understand how memory storage occurs. After a series of experiments
conducted from 1958 2000, by Dr. Eric R Kandel and numerous colleagues, using a radical
reductionist approach, he found evidence for several theories.
First, our research suggests that the cellular and molecular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Based on his first conclusion, when it comes to short term memories, synaptic connections in the
brain are modified by small changes in proteins. Long term memories require that new proteins be
formed, gene expression be stimulated and new connections be synthesized. Implicit memory is a
type of memory in which previous experiences aid the performance of a task without conscious
awareness of these previous experiences. Explicit memory is the conscious, intentional recollection
of previous experiences and information. Storing of implicit and explicit memories can follow
different processes. Different signaling is necessary when storing implicit memories vs. explicit
memories in the short term. However, the storage of implicit and explicit memories in the long
term, follows the same specific signaling pathway.
Based on his second conclusion, different modularity transmitters are used depending on which
type of learning you are engaged in. These transmitters act in several different ways. They can either
activate, regulate, or mediate. If they activate, they trigger the enzyme kinase, which then reports to
the nucleus to aid in the growth of neurons and long term memory. If they regulate, they monitor
protein synthesis that is required in order to stabilize the synapses for long term storage. Finally,
mediation is the least understood process. What is known, is that it is necessary in recollecting
specific memories and memory production.

NON FINITO
In various works he does indeed use the non finito as a technique. In the PietГ from Florence, the
non finito on Nicodemo s head is a strategic solution to avoid the similarities between the saint and
himself and in the Day and the Dawn statues it is a device to flee from a rigorous iconographical

It s the non finito which manifests his emotivity in the figurative art, which gives an interpretation
to his poems as rants of a disenchanted soul. Thus he developed a mystical ideal of poetry as he did
of sculpture. Neither had to be finished to produce its effect or convey the proper idea.
The non finito is as a result of its own definition present in all aspects of his life. Imbuing his
creations with a deeper sense that I think could only be explained by his words in the poems as
they are musings on these concepts that Michelangelo tries to show through the art he makes. It
was gives his work a more conceptual significance as it forgoes the most explicit of forms to make
the viewer understand what is in front of them.
Both tondi in marble of the Virgin and the Saint Matthew shows how he leaves behind all
refinement in the execution of details, giving way to a more solid and synthetic art. Many, say this

Edward Mcclelland Roll The Middle Class Summary
Has there been a demise in the middle class? Edward McClelland believes there has been. Could

McClelland makes. Through my life experiences, I believe McClelland has some strong points but
could be wrong in some areas. And I believe where you are located can also makes a difference. In
Edward McClelland s article, RIP, the Middle Class: 1946 2013 , McClelland argues that there has
been a decline in the middle class since the 1980 s. He begins his article remembering times in
the 1970 s, when the middle class was able to live similar to the upper class. He stated I saw the
evidence of prosperity distributed equally among the social classes: speedboats, Corvette
Stingrays, waterbeds, snowmobiles, motorcycles, hunting rifles, RV s, CB radios. This was his
evidence that the middle class was doing well and prospering. He also gave an example of a couple

Persuasive Essay On Breaking Rules
Kim Harrison say that Breaking rules isn t bad when what you re doing is more important than
the rule itself. In discussion of rebellion, one controversial issue has been showing that everyone
s bewilderment. On the one hand, people argued that it is unsuitable to infringe the rules. On the
other hand, people demonstrate that it is justified to contravene the rules. However, I believe
that it is right to break the rules when it support a cause you believe in, unfairly and
understandable. One key reason why we should break the rules when it supports a cause that you
believe in, a cause that is right because you believe, in your opinion, defying authority may help
other people. One clear example of this is from the text, Hunger games. Katniss breaks several
rules to help her people and her family. To understand why Katniss breaks the rules is because her
people live in a oppressed life in a society by all the specific rules like weapon not allow, hunting
not allow, and you can not go in the wood to pay or sell food. Katniss have to ignore the rules go
in the wood, hunt and trade food so her family can have food to survive. Another strong example is
from The Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa Parksbreak the rules on the bus, don t give up her
seat on the bus because white people in texas being racist which mean black people have to give
up their seat for white people. Rosa park shirk the law and justify for her people. To better
understand in that situation is because when other people life in danger you believe that you
should stand up and speak for them as a hero. There are many people life get in danger or dead
because no one believed themself or wanted to stand up and speak for other people. This historical
document illustrates that we should help other people when we think our believe is not wrong.

Essay on Prophet and Tecumseh
It is believed that Tecumseh was born in 1768 in central Ohio. He was the second son of a
Shawnee warrior who was killed at the Battle of Point Pleasant. In his dying breaths, his father
commanded his eldest son Cheesuaka, to train Tecumseh as a warrior and to never make peace
with the whites. Cheesuaka was good to his word and became an excellent warrior and a teacher.
He grew close with his younger brother, and after their mother moved to Missouri he acted as a
foster parent as well. Tecumseh was a model child, and although it is claimed that he ran in terror
from his first battle, his courage never faltered from then on. Tall, muscular, intelligent, and highly
charismatic, Tecumseh proved to be a master battle tactics and an excellent... Show more content on

The ways of the white men, he proclaimed, were an evil that corrupted all they touched. Not only
did the whites continue to take Indian lands, they had made the Indians dependent on the white
world s tools and poisoned by its whiskey The Indian people were losing their identity. (Edmunds)
Prophets teachings called for a total rejection of the white culture, which included the clothing and
technology, alcohol and religion. He also spoke out against the selling of land because according
to Indian beliefs no one owned the land. This was according to ancient tradition; the land and its
resources were given to everyone by the Great Spirit. Along with this, Prophet preached another
powerful message he called for an intertribal confederacy that would accept Indians everywhere. To
help this vision become a reality Prophet looked to his brother, Tecumseh. (Edmunds)
Tecumseh was a very powerful speaker and a well respected warrior. From the time he was very
young it was obvious he would be a very highly skilled hunter, leader and warrior. The two used his
image amongst the native in order influence them to join the fight. Tecumseh considered himself an
Indian first and a Shawnee second. This helped the brothers vision of one united Indian confederacy
seem more feasible. (Edmunds)
The bothers were united, one as a political activist and the other as a religious fanatic, in an effort
to swoon the Native

Stereotypes In The Film Fortunate Son
Paramount Pictures released the fictional movie Forrest Gump on July 6, 1984 to major success.
Robert Zemeckis directs the film, which stars Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump. Raised by his single
mother, Forrest grows up in Greenbow, Alabama. Throughout the movie, Forrest becomes involved
in many of the major events that occur in the United States between the 1950 s and 1980 s. Some
of these events include becoming a college football star at the University of Alabama, serving in the
Vietnam War, reporting the Watergate Scandal, becoming a shrimp boat captain, founding Bubba
Gump s Shrimp Co., and running across the country. During Forrest s helicopter ride into Vietnam,
the song, Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revivalplays. This song not only sets the scene
as the song commonly known, but also balances the political spectrum between liberals and
conservatives. One of the effects of Robert Zemeckis choosing the song Fortunate Son is the
balancing of political beliefs in the movie. Jeff Saporito interviews Tom Hanks regarding the films
political agenda. Hanks says that, The film is nonpolitical and thus nonjudgmental (Saporito). Jeff

Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating
Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics
in Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very
feminine sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate
their facial expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and
rhinestone covered costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant.
Dick Button, a gold medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a
windmill in the Metropolitan Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has
always viewed figure skatingas a softer sport.2
The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft
sport, otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. I felt like these men were
constantly trying to be graceful without being feminine yet their costumes did not help prove their
masculinity whatsoever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plushenko scores low in this criterion but the notoriously flamboyant American male figure skater,
Johnny Weir, may just be the worst of them all. Weir is known for his over the top performances
and fashion style. He once was dressed in a pink and black costume that was unnecessarily sheer,
which he happened to design himself. Funny enough, Claude Mailhot, a French commentator even
thought that he might have lost points due to his costume and his body language during his
performance in the Olympics3. And in response, Alain Goldberg says, we should make [Weir] pass

Eye Of The Beholder Analysis
Thesis (talks about similarities, differences, and themes) In The Birthmark and Eye of the
Beholder , two writers provide opinions on beauty and perfection. While the messages, provided by
the literary devices, are similar, the end results are very different. Hawthorn uses metaphors,
allusions, and symbolism to show that rejecting imperfection in life to obtain true beauty will lead
to death either identically, physically or both; while the Twilight Zone episode uses repetition,
idioms, and metaphors to show that the individual should appreciate their own beauty and not rely
on society s standards to tell them what is perfect. Subject 1 The Birthmark: Nothing is perfect as
nature has made every living thing with a mark of imperfection.... Show more content on

Smith tells Miss Tyler to say this to herself over and over again. This not only helps to build
Miss Tyler s self esteem as her society forces her to be segregated to a ghetto but also undermines
the teaching of that society. Her government believes in conformity and lack of individualism,
this idiom encourages people to look at the world from their own perspective and not the one
laid out by the government. Beauty is a social construct as true beauty weather mentally, as the
piece suggests, or physically is based on the perception of the observer. This is idea is reinforced
when we learn that Miss Tyler is actually beautiful by the audience s standards but is deemed
ugly by the show s standards. While we may see her as perfection the world which she lives in
sees her as a grotesque mistake created by nature. While society and science try to correct this
mistake, like that in The Birthmark, it also fails to obtain true perfection. This leads the reader to
believe that true beauty is not when the world accepts a person as beautiful but when a person

Wireless Sensor Networks For Energy Conservation
IMPLEMENTATION OF ROBUST SAMPLING IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS FOR
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Importance and Relevance and Novelty of the Project:
1.About Wireless Sensor Networks
Now a days, deployment of wireless sensor networks for real time applications has increased a lot.
As and when, we talk about monitoring, transmitting (wireless), and controlling various physical
conditions at a site, which we basically call a smart system, can be easily achieved by the wireless
sensor networks.
A wireless sensor network (WSN) comprises of a large number of independently distributed sensor
nodes in which sensors employed at each and every node. These sensors are used to monitor
physical or environmental conditions, and can easily pass their data through the sensor network to
the main site. Each sensor node consists of a sensing system for information acquisition, real time
data processing, a power supply unit, and wireless communicating modules, which is a basic
system of a WSN. Each time the physical conditions vary according to the time and space, WSNs
starts real time data processing and sends the data.
Some of the statistics, which articulates about the importance of WSNs in the present day Society,
пѓ Petro China is carrying out IoT projects in its oil fields, with the purpose to reconstruct 2,
00,000 oil wells. WSN technology applied in the digital conversions of the oil wells will make use
of online monitoring to measure oil well production and ensure production safety.

Essay about Nationalism and Ethnic conflict
After Suharto ended his long dictatorial reign in 1998 there was a substantial increase in religious
and ethnic conflict in Indonesia. Author Jacques Bertrand claims religious and ethnic conflict
defined Indonesia s national model. This resulted in three critical junctures during Suharto s
retirement of his sovereign rule. The three critical junctures defined Indonesia s terms of
citizenship, and give meaning to the structure and procedures of an institution (Bertrand, 20). When
Suharto left as dictator, major political and social changes consumed Indonesia, which threatened
the Indonesian realm. The people of Indonesia struggled to define their sense of nationalism. The
national model of Indonesia was a set of standards on the nature... Show more content on

Ethnic violence in the late 1990s broke out due to the sudden emergence of a political space to
contest this national model. Bertrand argues that complete legitimacy was not achieved because of
the emergence of a narrow ethnic conception of the nation. Two factors of this were the strife in
Kalimantan, and another in the role of Islam in Indonesia s political institutions. This began to
threaten Christian minorities in Indonesia. These conflicts between Muslims and Christians
situate the violence in Maluku in relation to the evolving role of Islam in Indonesia s national
model. Indonesia complained of their lack of autonomy In regions such as Maluku or other areas
of Eastern Indonesia, a low capacity for generating local revenue restricted the ability to adapt
projects and development to local conditions (Bertrand, 198).). The scanty amounts of funds were
unable to support the poor and other problems. Bertrand states, Faced with the New Order regime
introduced mild reforms that were designed to address some technical issues while avoiding
political decentralization (Bertrand, 198). In 1995 the Minister of Home Affairs selected 26
districts were used to evaluate the measures designed to increase autonomy. They noticed an
increase in Indonesia budget, but they still failed to support the poor, which resulted in

Happiness In The Alchemist
By following your dreams is it possible to achieve great happiness? As the famous Dalai Lama
would say, Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your actions. This quote
supports the statement of by following your dreams it is in fact possible to achieve great happiness.
The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelhotells the story of a boy named Santiago and how he embarks on a
journey in order to find his treasure. This journey started with a dream that he had in which a
little boy took him to the pyramids in Egypt and told him that there is treasure waiting there for
him. He later chooses to go look for the treasure as it is revealed that it s his Personal Legend to
do so. While on his journey he makes new friends/acquaintances that share useful knowledge and
wise words with him. He also realizes how happy he is because he s making his dreams come...

Just as the little boy was about to show Santiago where exactly the treasure is located at, he
wakes up. It s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting, he thought.
Santiago later went to go see a gypsy woman that knew how to interpret dreams to see if she could
inform him about what his dream meant. The quote mentioned earlier shows how he had the idea
that if he can make his dream come true he would become happy with himself. His dream is
providing hope something to believe in, something to aim for. That itself is providing happiness
because he has something to keep him going and keep him wanting to continue his dream. It s not
the dream come true that makes life interesting or make one truly happy, it s the possibility of it
happening. The journey is as important as the destination, however without a destination (your
dream) the journey is without direction and loses its meaning. So dream that dream, pursue it, and
become happy is basically the meaning of this

Toad As An Extended Metaphors In Toads By Philip Larkin
In the poem Toads by Philip Larkin, the title announces a metaphor, specifically an extended
metaphor which dominates the poem, which is Larkin utilizing a toad as an extended metaphor for
work and obligation, in order to communicate his idea that individuals have a difficult time living a
fulfilling life, due to one s personal obligation, as well social expectations. Furthermore, the toadis
compared to his obligations in life, as well the life of others who do not work, in order to convey
the idea that individuals feel they are living an unfulfilling life, as a result of personal sense of
obligation, as well social expectations. In addition, the use of figurative language helps to
communicate the idea with greater vividness, being it emphasizes that the speaker is questioning
if his work, is worth his time, being it takes a vast majority of it, in addition, it is just to get by.
Altogether, Larkin s utilizes an extended metaphor, comparing a toad to work and obligations, in
order to bolster his idea with greater force than a prosaic description would have achieved.
Firstly, the usage of a toad as an the extended metaphor, for work and obligation, upholds
Larkin s idea of work being difficult for individuals as a result of one s personal sense of obligation,
as well social expectations, as illustrated by comparing the speaker to the lives of others. As evident,
in the excerpt Are skinny as whippets and yet/ No one actually starves (Lines 19 20), the
speaker, the hard working toad is comparing himself to the lives of other, in order to reveal that
others are living without working as a result of being able to handle not living up to the social
expectations. Moreover, the citation Losels, loblolly men, louts They don t end as paupers
(Lines 11 12), bolsters Larkins idea of work being difficult as a result of one s personal sense of
obligation, by comparing the toads sense of self obligation to work, to the absence of it for
people, thus revealing they are all able to live the same way, due to they avoid work, however the
speaker does not chose to follow that route. Altogether, Larkins, usage of a toad as an extended
metaphor for work and obligation, helps convey his idea with more force than

Descriptive Essay About Hotel
Today i went to the coolest hotel ever! I couldn t believe what i was seeing, it was amazing!
Everything was made out of glass, but that s not all. Every room had some sort of waterfall,
river, creek, or body of water in it. When I got off the plane all I wanted to do was go inside. The
outside was gorgeous, it was all glass and surrounding the hotelwas the pacific ocean .When you
walk in you see that the floor is made of glass, the walls are made of glass, the ceiling is made of
glass, even the tables and chairs are made of glass. Right beside the front desk is a big waterfall
with beautiful blue water pouring out of it, at the end of the waterfall there is a place where you
can sit down. The concierge leads you up to your room and you have to walk up these beautiful
glass stairs. In my room there was a soft blue rug covering the whole floor but still being able to
see the floor was glass underneath. There was a king size bedand on the opposite wall there was a
fireplace with a tv on the mantle. I turned and noticed there were two other doors in my room, so
I walked into the first door and everything was black.. I turned on the light and there was a huge
waterfall with a swimming pool at the end of it. It looked like the one downstairs but it was a little
bit smaller than that one. I decided i would go into the other room and it was the bathroom. The
floor also had a blue rug but everything in the bathroom was glass and i mean everything. The
toilet was glass, the

The Production Of The Montara Oil Spill
Mans continued reliance on fossil fuels such as coal and oil has driven the expansion and
exploration for oil reserves in many of the worlds oceans including the coast of Western Australia.
Whilst there is a strong push toward greener cleaner energy sources, the fossil fuel industry
continues to draw on the support of the Australian Government and others, principally, due to the
economic benefits and financial rewards for all. Australia has become extremely reliant on both
imported and local sources of oil to fuel both commercial and private sectors. Local sources can be

Fortunately no one working at the oil rig during that time was seriously injured, though the same

Australia s top environmental disasters. It is only when disasters like these strike and the damage

Education Is Important Or Valuable
When students hear the word education , they associate it with the word school and a picture of an
angry teacher commanding them to do things. It is rare for students to announce that education is
important or valuable. When a person is given the opportunity to observe a school environment in
depth, they would witness how students lack motivation to go to schoolsince they think of it as a
prison. They would witness how students are cramming and rushing to do their homework at lunch
because they did not bother to do it at home. They would witness how, sometimes, teachers leave
students on their own to avoid work. Educationhas been taken advantage of and dismissed. The

It is time to start to take advantage of the free education that is given and start appreciating it.
Acquiring an education enlightens us with the truth behind the things that concern us. People
might put that it is better to know less, but ignorance is not bliss nor heaven; it is a dark cave
that hides us from the light of the truth and education is the agent that takes off the blindfold.
Mark Twain is one of the people that argues that education robs the romance and the beauty
(Paragraph 4) of the things that surrounds us. He argues in his essay, Two Views of Mississippi ,
that once was the river a wonderful book to him, but after learning much about it, he concludes
that he is now flooded with the danger and the dreadful things that the river offers. Although one
can see Twain s point of view and how it connects to the popular proverb that Ignorance is bliss ,
one can argue that it is up to a person s choice on how he or she would view situations even with
its suggestive danger. Students whose danger is possibly failing a class or disappointing people,
like Twain, are often led to believe that failing is the worst thing that could happen to their
educational career or life. The knowledge that there could be danger when students pursue or try
new things forces them to stay comfortable and cease to try. A common occurrence in a high school
environment is that a student would not take Honors or accelerated classes

The Human Rights Of The United States
From the beginning of time the excessive desire for money and power of the few has led to
stepping on and taking away the basic human rights of the masses. From the slaves of the
ancient days to the under paid of today. The working man has hungered not just to live pay
check to pay check, but to live comfortably after putting in a good days work. To be able to go to
the hospital over work related and non work related injuries without spending the rest of their lives
in debt. To work in decent conditions where the demand for speed and mass production is set at a
reasonable pace. In the meatindustry it has been a century long war to win basic human rights. In
the 1950 s butchers and slaughterhouseworkers made decent wages that could support their
families. Things shifted when companies started getting too big wanting larger and larger profits
with lower and lower production costs. The worker is then treated the same as the animal to be
slaughtered. In order to affect change the working masses organized. Uniting under one cause
against the evil of corporate greed.
When cattle first came to America with the Europeans it was a simpler time. The cattle were set
lose to graze in the forests and slaughtered as needed. In the 1800 s livestock started becoming
more and more domesticated. They were breed, raised to work the fields, and sold or traded as
needed with the local community. As town populations grew larger so did the need for commercial
butchers. Cows were slaughtered as

Ursa Minor Research Papers
My Cherished Constellation is Ursa Minor, also known as the little dipper. I have always been
drawn to Ursa Minor because I have a series of moles on my leg that, as a child, I would play

connection to the Ursa Minorconstellation because it is often depicted as the little bear and bears

brightest stars and most significant stars in the sky, the North Star (or Polaris). This constellation
belongs to the Ursa Majorfamily of constellations, which includes such constellations as Draco,
Leo, Lync, Corona Borealis and Ursa Major. Ursa Minor is a really interesting constellation with a
historical and astrological connections.

Zeus, Callisto gave birth to a beautiful son named Arcas. Arcas loved to hunt and would wander

Political Advertising Controversy
In the realm of political advertising, there are two main categories of ads, positive and negative
(Brader 2006). These categorizations usually relate to their intended purpose or emotions that are
evoked. Positive ads, as the title suggests, evoke positive emotions like hope or enthusiasm
(Brader 2006). While negative ads promote negative emotions, like fear, anger or anxiety.
Evoking these emotions from voters are a key strategy to manipulating voters into a desired
behavior. Sometimes the goal is to interest voters in campaigns or to gain votes. Positive ads
typically focus on the own candidates campaign while negative campaigns usually focus on the
opponent (Brader 2006). In a study by Khan (1993), it was found that 65% of ads are candidate
oriented while 35% are negative and opponent oriented. When negative ads focus on the opponent,

Many people believe that negative ads promote voter engagement and turnout (Martin 2004). This
area of research has a lot of controversy and contradicting results. Some studies claim that voters
are mobilized by negative ads while others do not. One study performed by Freedman and
Goldstein (1999) show that negative ads do not reduce the number of voters that turnout to vote.
Freedman and Goldstein (1999) analyzed many old studies that looked at voter turnout and showed
that the methods that were used were inadequate. Newer research on voter mobilization and
turnout have been showing that voters are in fact mobilized by negative ads (Martin 2004).
Martin (2004) also did research within this area showing that voters are affected by negative ads
and these effects do in fact increase voter turnout. However, voter turnout only increases with
negative ads until a certain threshold in which voter turnout will decrease if passed (Martin 2004).
In other words, negative ads will increase voter turnout as long as it is below a certain threshold of

  • 2. Classification Of Student Learning Essay 4.2 Classification of student learning process To learn is to acquire knowledge or skill. Learning also may involve a change in attitude or behavior. Children learn to identify objects at an early age; teenagers may learn to improve study habits; and adults can learn to solve complex problems. Pilots and aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) need to acquire the higher levels of knowledge and skill, including the ability to exercise judgment and solve problems. The challenge for the aviation instructor is to understand how people learn, and more importantly, to be able to apply that knowledge to the learning environment. This handbook is designed as a basic guide to educational psychology. This chapter addresses that branch of psychology directly concerned with how people learn. Human learning may occur as part of education, personal development, schooling, or training. It may be goal oriented and may be aided by motivation. The study of how learning occurs is part of neuropsychology, educational psychology, learning theory, and pedagogy. Learning may occur as a result of habituation or classical conditioning, seen in many animal species, or as a result of more complex activities such as play, seen only in relatively intelligent animals. Learning may occur consciously or without conscious awareness. Learning that an aversive event can t be avoided nor escaped is called learned helplessness. There is evidence for human behavioral learning prenatally, in which habituation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research Paper On New England Colonies The New England colonies consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. These colonies were settled by Puritans in the 1600s. The tension between Puritans and the Church of England caused England to divide, and the Puritans decided to go to the New World. They left their native lands to go to a place where they could practice their religionwithout getting in trouble (OER Textbook Settling New England). The Middle colonies were New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. These colonies were the most diverse and had the best economy. New York was founded after the English conquered the land from the Dutch. After taking it, they renamed it New York after the Duke of York. The land was later split and formed the ... • 4. Comparing Augustine s Imperative To The Creation Of God 1.This matters because although we cannot see God, he is there. It may seem as though God is far away when he sitting on his throne, but as Augustine states, it is not a matter of spatial distance. WE cannot see or feel the distance, although it is there, and while we are not physically standing with Him, Godis holding us in His hands. 2.The formlessness is so imperative to the creation of this world because it intensifies God s power. He created so much out of nothing. Out of absolute blackness and formlessness. Without understanding what God started with to create what he did, we cannot fully understand and imagine His great power. 3.He inserts this bit of poetry as he writes on God s great creation as he remembers how he did not ... The hesitant walk to the front entrance felt like an eternity, as the evening air grew dark. Refusing to turn back, she took a deep breath and geared herself up to go in. The door was easier than expected to unlock, and as she entered in to the past she knew then, there was no going back. • 8. The Gonzales V. Raich Gonzales v. Raich was a landmark case which determined the extent that Congress could regulate marijuana usage in California. More precisely, the case involves deliberation between the constitutionality of the Compassionate Use Act, voted on by the state of California in 1996, and the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), passed by Congress in 1970. Does the CSA, a policy which permits the regulation of certain drugs and chemicals by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), exceed the regulations set under the Commerce Clauseof the Constitution? Does the Compassionate Use Act, which allows for the use of medical marijuana in California, protect citizen s rights to use and distribute marijuana for medicinal purposes? The decision made by the Supreme Court would spark debate over these questions as well as similar topics such as federal abuse of power, doctor patient confidentiality, and the decriminalization of marijuana across America. In my paper, I will cover the events and influences leading up to the Supreme Court s official decision, the significance of the outcome, and the questions and issues brought up in the aftermath of Gonzales v. Raich. In 1996, California voters passed the Compassionate Use Act, which allowed for the cultivation and usage of marijuana for limited medical purposes. The proposition was the statewide ballot on the issue of medical marijuana which had been passed. It was enacted with 55% of the population in favor, 45% opposed, a fact which in and of itself ... • 12. Emily Dickinson And Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Emily Dickinson and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow both used symbolism to bring their poems more depth and understanding. The two authors wrote poems about life events and had very similar approaches. The way they viewed life was very different from the other authors because they used optimism in their poems which expressed the meaning more deeply. The symbolism they both used was hidden, but once found it brought new and intriguing thoughts to their poems. These two authors both had very powerful ideas, which was put into poetryand influenced the minds of many people. The poem, Hope , by Emily Dickinsonis about a bird and throughout the poem you realize that the bird is not a bird at all, but symbolizes hope. The poem talks about the challenges that the bird has to go through to keep hope alive. In one stanza it talks about a dark, terrifying storm, which represents challenges in life. The bird still stays above the storm and this helps further the idea that hope is with you even in the darkest times. For example, I ve heard it in the chillest land and on the strangest Sea yet never and Extremity, it asked a crumb of me (Dickinson). This quote through the symbolism of the bird is saying that even when hope is pushing its limits it will never ask anything of you. This poem was beautifully written and emphasizes how important hope is to people in their daily lives. The poem by Longfellow is called, The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls . This poem is filled with symbolism, for example in the third stanza there is a traveler and his footprints are in the sands and then they are not; this represents the traveler dying. The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls, Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls; The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveller to the shore, And the tide rises, the tide falls (Longfellow). In this quote the waves are life and the purpose of the last line is to announce that life will keep happening even if people die. He is optimistic about this because his theory is that people can still do things even though their time is short on this Earth. He obviously wants to make this theory known because he repeats the line The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls at the end of every stanza. The two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis Of The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli Mankind has never answered this age old question: Is man inherently good? There are different arguments for both sides, however most would agree that humans should strive to be good. Interestingly, Niccolo Machiavelli in his work The Prince would disagree. Written for the Medici lords, The Prince offers advice on how to obtain and rule a principality. To do this, he must first explain the nature of man and adjust the method of ruling them accordingly. Machiavelli believes humans by nature are corrupt, so the Prince must also be corrupt to succeed. In order to prove Machiavelli s opinion, it is first necessary to understand what he defines as success. Machiavelli believes that for a prince to be successful he must maintain rule over his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, success for Machiavelli is sustaining power over a principality. Next it must be proved that Machiavelli believes men by nature are cruel and corrupt. When talking about the necessity of cruelty in leaders, he says, a man who wants to make a profession of good in all regards must come to ruin among so many who are not good (p.61). Here he seems to believe that the general populace is not good. He does not allude to any choices that would cause this cruelty, so we can infer that he believes humans by nature are corrupt. He discourses on qualities that are praised in a prince such as faith, humanity, and honesty but laments that he cannot have them, nor wholly observe them, since human conditions do not permit it (p.62). These human conditions that Machiavelli refers to must be the corruption of man, as there is no other reason for a prince to not observe these qualities. If men were good, it would be obvious for a prince to rule with good virtues, but since they are not he must adjust his morals to fit his people s. In addition to this, he teaches the prince to use one of two kinds of combat when it comes to ruling the people: one with beasts and one with man. Having never mentioned ruling animals before, the reader can conclude that he is referring to men who are wicked by nature. He explains that one must use laws with man and force with ... • 14. Uses And Uses Of Virtualization Virtualization is being able to give a physical device the power, through the use of software, to do more than that physical device was technically designed and able to do (Santana, 2014, p. 12). For example, a server can only run one operating system at a time. However, when a hypervisor is used in a server, the hypervisor is a layer of software that acts like the server itself so that many operating systems can be run from that one server. The hardware, in this case a server, has been virtualized. The goal is to use all of the computer s resources all of the time, and the only way to do that is to have enough things running that the resources are being used consistently and efficiently. An analogy for this could be online classes. If each teacher only had one student, the teacher s resources of time and expertise would not be utilized efficiently because that one student will not need help all day, every day. If the teacher is assigned to fifteen students, the students can still get help when needed from the teacher, and they would not even be aware that they are not alone in the class. Because it is an online class, the teacher does not need any more physical resources to teach an entire class than was needed for one student. The students are receiving the benefits of being taught by that teacher without needing to be with him or her physically. 2. The title was revived in 962 when Otto I was crowned emperor, fashioning himself as the successor of Charlemagneand beginning a continuous existence of the empire for over eight centuries. Egalitarianism In Australia Introduction Australian society is often defined as egalitarian since the government equally accepts the diversity of population regardless of their personal backgrounds, socioeconomic status, health condition and political opinions. The society is supposed to attach importance to the fair civil liberties, protect local industries and provide every resident with welfare support, the opportunity of education and employment. After the federation in 1901, this nation practiced protectionism for national industrial development such as iron, steel, woolen goods, and motors. The regime set more than 60 percent tariff wall for import and export to secure local income and employments in growing population. Consequently the allocation of importation in Australia conserved more than 80 percent for the local markets, but also maintained generous working conditions for employers and employee (Abbott, 1997). The regime also focused on the wage fairness and providing welfare benefits based on the needs of families and the individuals to maintain their standard living (Anderson, 1938). The government practiced strong encouragement and created an environment for working and middle class population to participate in universities with financial support between the 1940s and the 1990s. Naturally, the university system and the governmental policy resulted in an increase rate of university students and the low level of employment, which was around three percent in 1940 1970 (Gale Parker, 2013; Loundes, 1997). There were supports for persons who have chronicle diseases and the government provided state government housing for population who had financial difficulties. Fashion and clothing is more than just what we wear but the way we choose to live our lives which relates back to culture. There are three key sources in trends for fashion, high culture, pop culture, and low culture. High cultureis mainly about the visual kinds of art. Visual arts can range anywhere from paintings to architecture and design. A designer is able to take note on a piece of art that inspires him or her to incorporate into their clothing designs. Pop culture is highly influenced by celebrities who spend most of their everyday lives in the mainstream. Pop culture influences the way we look. For example, TV shows that dress the cast very fashionably such as the show, that was popular in the 80 s Dynasty to the 90 s into the year 2004 the show Sex in the City, everyone wanted to dress like the protagonist in those popular TV series. Subculture is local street movements such as hip hop and graffiti. Subculture is mainly seen in surf and skateboard culture from the 70 s up until today. If culture can influence the paintings we paint and the clothes that we wear, then it certainly does have an impact on the poems we write. In Europe, during the nineteenth century Benjamin Disraeli and William Gladstone stole the stage in trying to transform the government that would benefit society. Although they both faced many challenges with the economy, they overcame a majority of them through reforms and building a strong political structure. Originally, Robert Peel created the conservative party, but when it failed, Disraeli took over becoming the leader. This reform decreased the monetary requirements for voting, but it was still based on land qualifications, and increased the amount of individuals voting from one million to two million people. Disraeli believed this reform would appeal to the working classes and eventually benefit the conservative party. • 19. Manifesto Of Surrealism What is surrealism? Surrealism is a revolution, pure psychic automatism, an attack of conscience, and a new mode of pure expression according to its founder AndrГ© Breton. In his highly controversial texts, Manifestoes of Surrealism, Breton exposes us to this new term he coined along with his colleague Philippe Soupault in homage to Guillaume Apollinaire, someone whom they believed had followed the discipline, and he explains the phenomenon in detail so that more can become aware and utilize the technique. Drawing heavy influences from Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx, Breton reveals to us the limitless opportunities of surrealism and how it frees us from everyday reality, similar to how the exoteric texts challenged us to question our beliefs. I The first Manifesto of Surrealism was published in 1924 succeeding dadaism, an art movement of the European avant garde often regarded as the movement that brought forth postmodern art. At the time of its publication, Europe was still reeling from World War I and art was very much political. Breton and other surrealists wanted to break free from the conventional art if the times and express the imagination as revealed in dreams. Thus, the Manifesto of Surrealism came about in which Breton discussed the importance of merging dream and reality. In Breton s view, one can learn to ascend to perception of a higher reality (the surreal), or more reality, if one can manage to liberate one s psyche from traditional education, the ... The term grunge comes from the slang adjective grungy , meaning ugly, run down and dirty. Grunge is often described as distortion filled, down tuned rock that is based off of riffs, using loud electric guitar feedback and heavy bass lines to support the song s melodies. Instrumentation usually consisted of an electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and a vocalist. Electric guitars were the dominant instrument in the grunge style, with heavy distortion and fuzz pedals creating growling, overdriven guitar sounds. International Trade Theories Essay International Trade Theories Mercantilism Mercantilism was a sixteenth century economic philosophy that maintained that a country s wealth was measured by its holdings of gold and silver (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). This recquired the countries to maximise the difference between its exports and imports by promoting exports and discouraging imports. The logic was transparent to sixteenth century policy makers if foreigners buy more goods from you than you buy from them, then the foreigners have to pay you the difference in gold and silver, enabling you to amass more treasure. With the treasure acquired the realm could build greater armies and navies and hence expand the nation s global influence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776), Smith attacked the intellectual basis of mercantilism and demonstrated that mercantilism actually weakens a country. Smith maintained that a country s true wealth is measured by the wealth of all its citizens, not just that of its monarch (Mahoney, Trigg, Griffin, Pustay, 1998). A country is said to be more productive than another country, if it can produce more output (goods) for a given quantity of input, such as labour or energy inputs. An example is that there are only two countries, Australia and Japan. They both produce computers and wine, and only one factor of production, labour. Japan produces 6 computers for every 1 bottle of wine, where as Australia produces only 4 computers for every 3 bottles of wine. This suggests that Australia should export some of its wine to Japan, and Japan should export some of its computers to Australia. Australia has an absolute advantage over Japan, when producing wine, and Japan has an absolute advantage over Australia, when producing computers (Gandolfo, 1998). Economists use the term absolute advantage when comparing the productivity of one person, firm or nation with that of another. The producer that requires a smaller quantity of inputs to produce a good is said to have an absolute advantage in producing that good (Gans, King, Mankiw, 1999). Comparative Advantage The ... Non verbal communication helps the receiver in interpreting the message received. Often, non verbal signals reflect the situation more accurately than verbal messages. The Relationship Between Density And Sugar Content The Relationship Between Density and Sugar Content Danielle Shaub Partners: Emily Alexander, Bill Dempsey, Shayla Ho Lab Performed 03/11/15 Lab Report 04/07/15 Abstract: Using solutions of sugar and water alongside cola, density and percent sugar can be related. The purpose of this lab is to discover how and with what benefit these factors can be related. Using assorted measurements and the standard curve of the calculated densities and percentages of sugar solutions, it was learned that cola has an approximate percent sugar of four percent, according to the calculations of the lab. Other results included actual percent sugar of soda and various statistics on measured sugar solutions. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to explore how density can be used to measure sugar content and percent sugar of beverages not only in the lab, but in the real world. Using the standard curve of the percent sugar and density of the solutions in the lab, the percent sugar of regular Coke was determined. The standard curve represented the general trend in the correlation of the values calculated in the lab. Using the data from the experiment, the actual amount of sugar in the soda could be calculated by using the percent sugar found by using the standard curve. Memory seemed an appropriate topic for this class as it is a necessity to completing it successfully. This research paper will explain how the brain uses synapses to store certain memories while others may be lost and how proteins play a major role in this process and could be the answer to solving memory problems in the future. To start, it is important to understand how memory storage occurs. After a series of experiments conducted from 1958 2000, by Dr. Eric R Kandel and numerous colleagues, using a radical reductionist approach, he found evidence for several theories. First, our research suggests that the cellular and molecular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on his first conclusion, when it comes to short term memories, synaptic connections in the brain are modified by small changes in proteins. Long term memories require that new proteins be formed, gene expression be stimulated and new connections be synthesized. Implicit memory is a type of memory in which previous experiences aid the performance of a task without conscious awareness of these previous experiences. Explicit memory is the conscious, intentional recollection of previous experiences and information. Storing of implicit and explicit memories can follow different processes. Different signaling is necessary when storing implicit memories vs. explicit memories in the short term. However, the storage of implicit and explicit memories in the long term, follows the same specific signaling pathway. Based on his second conclusion, different modularity transmitters are used depending on which type of learning you are engaged in. These transmitters act in several different ways. They can either activate, regulate, or mediate. If they activate, they trigger the enzyme kinase, which then reports to the nucleus to aid in the growth of neurons and long term memory. If they regulate, they monitor protein synthesis that is required in order to stabilize the synapses for long term storage. Finally, mediation is the least understood process. What is known, is that it is necessary in recollecting specific memories and memory production. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the 1970 s, the middle class has been slowly declining is the assumption that McClelland makes. Through my life experiences, I believe McClelland has some strong points but could be wrong in some areas. And I believe where you are located can also makes a difference. In Edward McClelland s article, RIP, the Middle Class: 1946 2013 , McClelland argues that there has been a decline in the middle class since the 1980 s. He begins his article remembering times in the 1970 s, when the middle class was able to live similar to the upper class. He stated I saw the evidence of prosperity distributed equally among the social classes: speedboats, Corvette Stingrays, waterbeds, snowmobiles, motorcycles, hunting rifles, RV s, CB radios. This was his evidence that the middle class was doing well and prospering. He also gave an example of a couple he knew. • 41. Persuasive Essay On Breaking Rules Kim Harrison say that Breaking rules isn t bad when what you re doing is more important than the rule itself. In discussion of rebellion, one controversial issue has been showing that everyone s bewilderment. On the one hand, people argued that it is unsuitable to infringe the rules. On the other hand, people demonstrate that it is justified to contravene the rules. However, I believe that it is right to break the rules when it support a cause you believe in, unfairly and understandable. One key reason why we should break the rules when it supports a cause that you believe in, a cause that is right because you believe, in your opinion, defying authority may help other people. One clear example of this is from the text, Hunger games. Katniss breaks several rules to help her people and her family. To understand why Katniss breaks the rules is because her people live in a oppressed life in a society by all the specific rules like weapon not allow, hunting not allow, and you can not go in the wood to pay or sell food. Katniss have to ignore the rules go in the wood, hunt and trade food so her family can have food to survive. Another strong example is from The Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa Parksbreak the rules on the bus, don t give up her seat on the bus because white people in texas being racist which mean black people have to give up their seat for white people. Rosa park shirk the law and justify for her people. To better understand in that situation is because when other people life in danger you believe that you should stand up and speak for them as a hero. There are many people life get in danger or dead because no one believed themself or wanted to stand up and speak for other people. This historical document illustrates that we should help other people when we think our believe is not wrong. Another important reason when is it right to break the rules is when it unfairly. One significant example is that from the text article title Marriageis a Private Affair. Nnaemeka rebel against the rules which mean he don t listen to his dad and married someone else in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city not in the Ibo tribe where his dad live. To help this vision become a reality Prophet looked to his brother, Tecumseh. (Edmunds) Tecumseh was a very powerful speaker and a well respected warrior. From the time he was very young it was obvious he would be a very highly skilled hunter, leader and warrior. The two used his image amongst the native in order influence them to join the fight. The sparkly and rhinestone covered costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skatingas a softer sport.2 The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport, otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. While the messages, provided by the literary devices, are similar, the end results are very different. Hawthorn uses metaphors, allusions, and symbolism to show that rejecting imperfection in life to obtain true beauty will lead to death either identically, physically or both; while the Twilight Zone episode uses repetition, idioms, and metaphors to show that the individual should appreciate their own beauty and not rely on society s standards to tell them what is perfect. Beauty is a social construct as true beauty weather mentally, as the piece suggests, or physically is based on the perception of the observer. This is idea is reinforced when we learn that Miss Tyler is actually beautiful by the audience s standards but is deemed ugly by the show s standards. A wireless sensor network (WSN) comprises of a large number of independently distributed sensor nodes in which sensors employed at each and every node. These sensors are used to monitor physical or environmental conditions, and can easily pass their data through the sensor network to the main site. Each sensor node consists of a sensing system for information acquisition, real time data processing, a power supply unit, and wireless communicating modules, which is a basic system of a WSN. The three critical junctures defined Indonesia s terms of citizenship, and give meaning to the structure and procedures of an institution (Bertrand, 20). • 49. Toad As An Extended Metaphors In Toads By Philip Larkin In the poem Toads by Philip Larkin, the title announces a metaphor, specifically an extended metaphor which dominates the poem, which is Larkin utilizing a toad as an extended metaphor for work and obligation, in order to communicate his idea that individuals have a difficult time living a fulfilling life, due to one s personal obligation, as well social expectations. Furthermore, the toadis compared to his obligations in life, as well the life of others who do not work, in order to convey the idea that individuals feel they are living an unfulfilling life, as a result of personal sense of obligation, as well social expectations. In addition, the use of figurative language helps to communicate the idea with greater vividness, being it emphasizes that the speaker is questioning if his work, is worth his time, being it takes a vast majority of it, in addition, it is just to get by. Altogether, Larkin s utilizes an extended metaphor, comparing a toad to work and obligations, in order to bolster his idea with greater force than a prosaic description would have achieved. Firstly, the usage of a toad as an the extended metaphor, for work and obligation, upholds Larkin s idea of work being difficult for individuals as a result of one s personal sense of obligation, as well social expectations, as illustrated by comparing the speaker to the lives of others. As evident, in the excerpt Are skinny as whippets and yet/ No one actually starves (Lines 19 20), the speaker, the hard working toad is comparing himself to the lives of other, in order to reveal that others are living without working as a result of being able to handle not living up to the social expectations. Moreover, the citation Losels, loblolly men, louts They don t end as paupers (Lines 11 12), bolsters Larkins idea of work being difficult as a result of one s personal sense of obligation, by comparing the toads sense of self obligation to work, to the absence of it for people, thus revealing they are all able to live the same way, due to they avoid work, however the speaker does not chose to follow that route.
