2. Essay on The Cathedral by Raymond Carver
Cathedral is a short story ultimately about enlightment, finding something more meaningful and
deeper with in one self. Although from an observing point of view nothing more in the story happens
then a blind man assisting the narrator in drawing a cathedral. Although as known, the narrator s
experience radically differs from what is actually observed . He is enlightened and opened up to a new
world of vision and imagination. This brief experience will have a life long effect on him. The reason
for this strong and positive effect is not so much the relationship made between the blind man and the
narrator or even the actual events leading up to this experience, but rather it is mostly due to what was
drawn by the narrator. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His further ignorance about the blind are focused in on Robert since he is aware of his upcoming visit.
Hearing the marriage stories about Robert from his wife the narrator cannot realize how a woman
could love a blind man, It was beyond my understanding. Hearing this, I felt sorry for the blind man
for a little bit. And then I found myself thinking what a pitiful life this women must have led (508).
This ignorance and immature understanding of relationships overshadows his attitude toward Roberts
visit, unwanted and condescending. His attitude toward the blind man seems to change though before
and furtherly during the connection they make as they draw the cathedral together. Although there is
no evidence that the narrator s overall ignorances and prejudices are gone from the experience, it is
very clear however that he does come to some sort of revelation and enlightment, My eyes were still
closed. I was in my house. I knew that. But I didn t feel like I was inside anything (515). Because what
the narrator draws is a cathedral it is only assumable that this enlightment that the narrator experiences
has to do with values of Christianity, in this case it would be a realization of equality and treating
people with love, little is said about the effects this revelation has on him. The narrator through out
most of the short story comes of as a pretty shallow character. Besides his stereotyping tendencies he
comes of as callous and un imaginative. He shows his lack of

3. Iowa State University Experience Essay
I have just arrived at Iowa State University to study at faculty of engineering. It will be a great
experience to live in place that you didn t visit before. The first impression I have got about the people
here is that they are very helpful and faithful, this including students, university s staff and all
workers. The campus is very large, and there are many buildings that reflect the culture of this state.
Iowa State s central campus includes 490 acres of trees, plants, and classically designed buildings. The
landscape s most dominant feature is the 20 acre central lawn. The other buildings include Campanile,
Beardshear Hall, and Curtiss Hall, circled and preserved the central lawn, creating a space where
students study, relax, and socialize. My favorite place in campus is the library.
The library, in my life, has evolved from simply a place where literate people go to read and do their
research about specific topics. After my experiences writing my research paper, I had evaluated its

4. Importance Of Education Of An Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur is a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than
normal financial risks in order to do so. This career is stressful at time but this could be fun to be able
to have the ability to bring ideas to reality and change today s generation. Being an entrepreneur doesn
t mean creating clothing but also having your own service business. For an example, lawn mowing
service or a tree cutting service. You can also make your own invention. Something so small can
become something so big, the best inventor didn t become entrepreneurs overnight some of the even
made their inventions by accident and now their invention are still around and have changed
generation today. Becoming an entrepreneur you need to know the education, duties, and
responsibilities of an entrepreneur. Education of an Entrepreneur
Education for entrepreneurs is non specific you technically don t need an education to be an
entrepreneur. If you are running a client business you need to go to college to be a nurse or a doctor.
However, a strong business background can be helpful in securing financial support. Successful
entrepreneurs are well trained in their fields, qualifications can vary. For Example, Restaurateurs may
be new graduates of culinary schools and hospitality programs or skilled chefs. Being an entrepreneur
may sound like a walk in the park but what people don t understand is that it takes a lot of hard work.
There are a set of skills you need in order to

Abstract Adsorption is one of the preferred techniques in recent years to remove the color and
inorganics from waste water. Activated carbon derived from the agricultural byproduct, acts as an
effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes from waste water. The removal of dyes and metal ions at
different, contact time, bed height, flow rate, initial dye concentration, column diameter, adsorbent
dosage, pH, and temperature by different agriculture based adsorbent has been studied. The result
shows that among the compared adsorbents, moringa oleifera derived adsorbent is effective for waste
treatment. The adsorption data were well fitted by Freundlich isotherm model. Kinetic data were best
described by pseudo second order model.

7. Guglielmo Marconi s Impact On Society
Hello, everyone, I m Jacob Ellis, reporting for WBUC. In the entire scope of broadcasting very many
people had a very large impact, but no one had more of a lasting impact than the father of wireless,
Guglielmo Marconi. Marconi created the largest piece in the puzzle that created broadcasting. Without
his invention, our life would be completely different than it is today. We wouldn t have Radios,
Televisions, Phones, WiFi, etc. All of the modern forms of wireless came from Marconi s original
form of wireless and were created because of his original invention. His wireless was mainly used for
radio but wasn t strong enough to be broadcasted very far which led people to find ways to better the

Even though Marconi s invention was used very much for communication, a big part of it was
entertainment. Wireless was used for radio at first but when television was invented people began to
see even more and more uses for wireless. Wireless allowed people to get local TV stations using
nothing but a Television and an antenna, allowing almost anyone to own and watch TV. This lead to
many television events being seen by millions of people. An example of this was the Kennedy
assassination. Since wireless allowed almost anyone, anywhere to own a tv, millions of Americans
were able to get the news very quickly that Kennedy had been shot and it allowed them to grieve with
the rest of the United States. Another way that wireless affected people was communication. Wireless
allowed people to communicate over long distances, so people were able to share information without

The Battle of Fredericksburg falls in a long list of failures of the Army of the Potomac during the first
year of the American Civil War. Following the Battle of Antietam the Northern Army had the
opportunity to defeat Lee s army. However, Northerners, were shocked by Lee s escape following this
battle on 17 September 1862, and were further upset by Major General George B. McClellan s
procrastination in pursuing Lee and allowing General J.E.B. Stuarts daring cavalry raid into
Pennsylvania around Gettysburg (10 12 October 1862). McClellan s failure to pursue Lee s Army is
mainly due to his own lack of confidence, believing that he doesn t have enough men or material in

Lincoln felt that the destruction of Lee s army should be the primary goal, not the capture of a
Southern city, however, he approved Burnside s plan. This was mainly due to the fact that Burnside
was actually moving the army in pursuit of Lee. Burnside s first act as commander was to divide his
army into three grand divisions, the right commanded by Major General Sumner, the center
commanded by Major General Hooker, and the left commanded by Major General Franklin. Once this
was completed he set forth for Virginia with a compliment of 100,000 men.
General Lee had at his disposal two army Corps, the First Corps was commanded by Lieutenant
General James Longstreet and the Second Corps was commanded by Lieutenant General Thomas
Jackson. Both of these corps comprised of 35,000 men for a total of 70,000 men. After leaving
Maryland, Lee decided to divide his army by sending the Second Corps to the Shenandoah Valley
towards Winchester Virginia and the other towards Culpeper station Virginia in order to see what the
North was going to do. The Confederate cavalry were a little slow in detecting the move of Sumter s

9. Malrotation Of The Gut Case Study
Volvulus (Malrotation of the Gut)
A malrotation of the gut occurs when something goes wrong during development the small intestine
(gut or small bowel). When this occurs, the small intestine is not fixed in the abdomen (belly). The
intestines are held by just their blood supply. When the intestines become twisted, because they are not
fastened down, it cuts off their blood supply. It is much like a hose getting kinked. This loss of blood
supply leads to damage to the gut. This condition is also called volvulus.
SYMPTOMS
Most often this abnormality shows up during the first month of life. Sometimes it may not produce
symptoms until adulthood. Usually the abdomen becomes distended and there is vomiting of bilious
material. This is greenish or bile stained vomitus. There is usually cramping and intermittent
abdominal pain.

This is an X ray study using contrast material. Contrast material is something given to the baby by
mouth that shows the inside of the stomach and small bowel better. This X ray shows an abnormal
position of the first part of the small bowel located where the small bowel first leaves the stomach.
TREATMENT
A volvulus is a surgical emergency. This must be corrected immediately to preserve life.
The surgeon will untwist the intestine if necessary.
The surgeon will cut through the abnormal bands holding the organs in the wrong places.
The appendix will be removed. If the child were to have an appendicitis the diagnosis would be
dangerously delayed because of the abnormal position.
After the operation, it is extremely unlikely the bowel will rotate again. The body has internal scarring

10. Obasan Joy Kogawa Analysis
Obasan, written by, Joy Kogawa, is a novel that highlights the experiences of the Canadian Japanese
residents during WW2. Inspired to write based on her personal experience, Kogawa does an amazing
job in displaying the hardships that the Japanese Canadian s had gone through. Two of the major
themes that I believe arise in the novel are, silence and memory. At first, Obasan appears as a novel
that tells people about the dangers of silence and it comes as a warning to the readers about the
consequences of remaining quiet. Naomi s family is displayed as a humble quiet family that accepts
the Canadian governments rules and regulations. Yet, their humbleness doesn t make their experience
any better than the rest of the Japanese residents. Rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Silence protects Obasan from the greater society. Obasan hears less and says little, making her
immune in a way to the racist remarks and thoughtless comments that surround her. Rough Lock Bill,
who s one of the most admirable characters within the novel actually praises Naomi for her silence.
Bill states that excessive talking is often self centred. His words are very crucial and hold a lot of
weight because apart from Naomi s family, Bill is the only white trustworthy adult in Naomi s life.
Memory is needed in order to form a sense of individuality. Without memory, civilizations would not
be able to progress and expand. In the novel, Obasan, we get to see that based on memory, there s a
spectrum that is formed. On one side, we have Uncle and Obasan who believe that the past remains
there. On the other end is aunt Emily, she believes that only by discussing and expressing past events
we can ensure that they never happen again and that these events mark a place in history. Right in the
middle of the spectrum, I would say is where Naomi falls. Naomi is confused between her past and
thinking that reminiscing about it will only hurt

11. Historical And Current Usage, And Control Mechanisms
The article in which I will review in this week s assignment was compiled by a number of authors.
The authors of the article are Zhenyu Li, Quan Dong, Thomas P. Albright, and Qinfeng Guo. The
article was published in 2011 inside the Biological Invasions periodical and is known as Natural and
human dimensions of a quasi wild species: the case of kudzu . It is located in volume 13 pages 2167
2179. I retrieved this article from the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library database.
Furthermore, this review of this article will begin with a brief summary. The summary will include the
introduction of Kudzu, historical and current usage, and control mechanisms. Following, there will be
a personal critic of the article which will include, why it was chosen, personal impression, and its
significance. In conclusion, there will be a brief discussion on the relationship between the article and
course. Kudzu, also known as pueraria montana, was first introduced into the United States from
Japan in 1876, it was planted widely throughout the states as an ornamental, for erosion control, a
source of starch, cloth, paper products, and as a fodder for livestock in the first half of the 1900s (Li,
Dong, Albright, Guo, 2011). As time progressed, the once desired plant evolved to a noxious weed by
the 1950s. The invasive nature that Kudzu displays beyond the United States has earned a place in the

12. Archetypes Of Dark In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451
Take a look at any timeless movie like the Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Marvel superhero series. In each
of these movies, a villain dressed in long black robes, with a corruptive smirk and mind uses their
malicious powers to battle relentlessly with the force of the hero, the strongest and at times, the most
kind hearted character in the film. In these films, Luke fights Vader, Harry battles Voldemort, and
Spider Man combats against his villains. In the end, the hero is praised for bringing peace by restoring
their community from the depths of darkness. Even in these classic movies, the archetype of light vs.

By giving Montag the inspiration and understanding to use his mind to think for his own, Montag is
able to become more powerful due to his intellect. He is now seen as a character who doesn t get
brainwashed by the government and has his individual thought, allowing him to escape from this
controlled society. Also, when Clarisse rubs the bright yellow dandelion on her chin, she s yellow
under there (19), proving that she s in love (19). Unlike the other characters in the novel, Clarisse has
emotions such as love, satisfaction, and happiness. The dandelion rubbing color on her illustrates how
she is able to express these emotions and is an overall ray of light towards others. Clarisse uses the
dandelion to prove to Montag that he lacks these qualities of lovingness and happiness in his life,
which ignites his self revelation. She is a symbol of light since she is aware of her surroundings by
being able to think and has a bright personality, as seen through the dandelions. Clarisse is able to use
her curiosity to help others see the world through their own eyes, not what the government or parlor
walls want them to. On the other hand, Mildred is contrasted to be the character that is lost in the dark
side for her lack of thought to escape. To further implement Mildred s character, Bradbury describes
her room as if it was like coming into the cold marble room of a mausoleum ... complete darkness, not

13. Trail Of Tears Analysis
Trusting, amicable, and helpful outcomes in life are not always expected, but almost always exceeded.
This relates much with the storyline of this saddening era in our history which can be represented with
segments from this story. The Trail of Tears refers to the forceful relocation and eventual movement of
the Native American ancestral communities, from the South Eastern regions of the U.S, as a result of
the enactment of the Indian Removal Act in the year 1830. In the year 1838, in line with Andrew
Jackson s policy of the Indians removal, the Cherokee community was forced to surrender its land to
the east of Mississippi River and migrate to the present day Oklahoma. This journey was referred to as
the Trail of Tears, mainly due to its devastating effects it had to the Indian people. The migrants faced
extreme hunger, diseases and fatigue due to the forced march while more than 4,000 people died. John
G. Burnett, a young, staunch, sagacious soldier during the Trail of Tears, helps throughout traumatic
and emotional experiences at just the age of 18. It was horrendous. His actions, however, were the

changed, a question may be thought is, have the people attending these ballet performances changed
as well as the performers themselves? Today, children from ages two and up start taking ballet and
family members come and watch their final recitals. National ballet companies are also an event and

In 19th century in Europe there is rapid increase in suicide. The case of death can be positive action
such as jumping from an upper window or negative action such as hunger strike. Durkheim eliminates
psychotic paranoid suicide because it is non sociological explanation of suicide and it is not the result
of self concise aim. The factor correlation between mental disorder and self destruction varies
considerably.
Scotland had comparatively high level of lunacy but there is low level self destruction. While Saxony
showed a low level of lunacy but a high rate of self destruction. Alcohol addiction and substance
abuse are eliminated by Durkheim (Law, 2011, p.200). Undoubtedly, race itself is abolished as an
irrational concept. In the month of summer and at temperature degrees of latitude (50 55 degrees),
there are more suicide cases because when communion is most competency public, especially in urban
areas. One of the causes of non social associated to suicide that Durkheim examines is imitation.
Durkheim differing the suicide rates among protestant and catholic, he argues that stronger social
control among catholic result in lower suicide rates. According to Durkheim, catholic society has
normal levels of integration while protestant society has low levels. He says that suicide rates are
higher in men than in women. Suicides rates are higher among those who are not in relationship than
those who are married. Because of the being single, the women do not have children so there is more

17. Analysis Of Late Night With Seth Myers-Harvey Weinstein...
The me too hashtag has been used on social media, after many of Hollywood s most famous actresses
came forward with allegations against movie producer, Harvey Weinstein. The hashtag encourages
women and men to speak up about their personal experiences with sexual harassment to promote
awareness. A recent article published by Fortune Magazine addressed how important it is to have a
voice, more than half of all American women 54% have experienced unwanted and inappropriate
sexual advances at some time in their lives . The article states that 33 million U.S women have been
sexually harassed and 95% of male perpetrators of this type of abuse usually go unpunished. The
video Late Night with Seth Myers Harvey Weinstein Apology conveys a compelling message. The
footage efficiently encourages their audience to be aware of sexual harassment, be mindful that their
actions could be interpreted as sexual harassment and be aware that if a woman or man is being
subjected to sexual harassment that it is their responsibility to support and assist the victim not the
alleged perpetrator. With humor, the women of Seth Myers writing team convey this message with
expectancy violation theory, cognitive dissonance and the persuasive theory of planned behavior.
Although the message conveyed in the video is strong, it would be more useful if it could reach a
broader and more diverse audience through narrative paradigm, lead member exchange and the artistic
proof of logos.

Vassar College was founded by Matthew Vassar in 1865 as an all woman s school. Vassar, a wealthy
man with no children was prepared to give his money to build a hospital that would immortalize his
name, but Milo Jewett convinced him it would create a bigger legacy to build a college for women
(Vassar admissions). Vassar agreed with Jewett and set about planning the school. He wanted to
produce well rounded women that would eventually graduate from a college that would be considered
the female equivalent of Harvard. The young women attending the college would receive all well
rounded, useful degree in liberal arts. This was uncommon during that time period because most ladies
attended an all girls seminary school instead of a college. Even though the college provided a liberal
arts education it still ran under many of the same governances as the seminary schools had. This
created a strange mix between a college and seminary school which changed the way the architecture
and the policy of the school were shaped. Jewett and Vassar wanted to provide a liberal arts education
to young women but they still believed that the young women needed to be protected. At first Jewett
only wanted to hire male professors for his school believing they would be the individuals best
equipped to educate the students (Kluge 36). Not only did this idea counter the belief that women
could learn the same material as men it also was seen as improper. Many people of that time period

20. Arguments Against Altruism
Altruism and profit are often at different ends of the spectrum when it comes to medicine and health
care as a whole. Altruism is the belief and practice of self less concern for others over a person s own
self. One of the biggest problems in our health care system today and possibly even during Henrietta s
time is that medicine and health care as a whole are so commercialized and are only concerned with
earning a profit. Henrietta s cells were stolen without any notice and her family was not compensated
for this crime. Eventually Henrietta s cells became so important and eventually earned researchers
millions of dollars. The theft of her cells had nothing to do with Henrietta as a person, but rather the
doctors and researchers wanting to make a dollar off of a dead woman s cells. Dr. Gey and others did
not know that Henrietta s cells were going to change medicine but the fact that they did change
medicine and no compensation was given to Henrietta and her family show that many doctors are not
concerned with their patients, they are more concerned about their paycheck and whether or not they
will be remembered in history forever. Out of all of Henrietta s children, Zakariyya was the absolute

causes ofd CAUSES OF COMUNICABLE DISESASE Hillendale Health describes a communicable
disease as one that is passed from human to human through direct or indirect contact. Common ones
include chicken pox, ringworm, influenza, scabies, lice, pinkeye and hepatitis. Prevention includes
good hygiene skills, safe sex and using reputable sources for tattoos, piercing and blood transfusions.
There are several things that cause a communicable disease and knowing the risk can help a person

CAUSES OF NON COMUNICABLE DISESASE Risk factors such as a person s background;
lifestyle and environment are known to increase the likelihood of certain non communicable diseases.
They include age, sex, genetics, exposure to air pollution, and behaviours such as smoking, unhealthy
diet and physical inactivity which can lead to hypertension and obesity, in turn leading to increased
risk of many NCDs.[4] Most NCDs are considered preventable because they are caused by modifiable
risk factors. The WHO s World Health Report 2002 identified five important risk factors for non
communicable disease in the top ten leading risks to health. These are raised blood pressure, raised
cholesterol, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and overweight.[5] Other factors associated with
higher risk of NCDs include a person s economic and social conditions, also known as the social
determinants of health. It has been estimated that if the primary risk factors were eliminated, 80% of
the cases of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes and 40% of cancers could be prevented.
Interventions targeting the main risk factors could have a significant impact on reducing the burden of
disease worldwide. Efforts focused on better diet and increased physical activity have

22. Attending Minnesota State University-Mankato Research Paper
Attending Minnesota State University Mankato has been one of the greatest decisions I have made
thus far. Although it has been an incredible experience, I still have some fears, concerns and anxieties
about being a student here at MSU. My biggest concern and fear is not making friends. I was lucky
enough to come here with a couple close high school friends so I am not completely alone. Even
though I love having my high school friends here and hanging out with them, I just want to become
friends and make memories with new people. What I believe is holding me back is that I am
apprehensive. I am not one of those people that can just go up to someone and start a conversation. It
is hard because before college I was in multiple sports and clubs

Decriminalization of victimless crime is a topic that occur often in current events. With the overdose
suffered by Lamar Odom in one of Nevada s Brothel is a most recent example., Presently legalizing
Marijuana is the hot topic. Others have argued for legalization of other victimless crimes, such as
prostitution and assisted suicides. Some of the arguments that have been made concerning victimless
crimes are that the criminal justice system is already backed up and who has moral authority to
criminalize activities that two consenting adults agree to make. These crimes are considered illegal
because government agencies have declared them illegal. Prostitution has been made legal in Nevada

24. Required Music Education
The Need for Required Music Education
Over 2.1 million children around the country do not have access to a music education program
(Pellegrinelli 2). These students that are not introduced to music education could be able to learn and
understand mathematics and reading skills much more efficiently by simply introducing music into
their lives (Taylor 2). When involved in music, anxiety and depression levels could decrease as well (
Landmark 1). Music is not required in all schools, and students could benefit from more music
education (Braun 1). Even though many students dislike music and think it is too hard, schools should
be obliged to require music classes through grade school because students that are actively involved in
music gain many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there is ample evidence showing that there are other benefits of music outside of academics
that these students could benefit from. Music educator Anne Edmunds said, [Music] Exposure also
helps with cognitive, social and emotional development ( Mind 1). Though academics are not the only
benefit of music, at most times, music will benefit everyone in some sort of academic way. Out of 61
seniors taking piano lessons, all of them showed positive differences in mental and physical areas.
This would benefit young people as well ( Landmark 1). Not only does Music for the Mind and Bruhn
and Tims show that there are other benefits of music education for students, The Landmark Fletcher
Music Study proves that music does help most people. While many may believe that some people s
academics may not improve when music education is involved, most people are benefited
academically by music education, and there are many benefits outside of academics. While it is true
that some adults and students do not take music lessons or classes because they think it is too hard, or
not fun, music education is just like many other things. It takes practice and dedication to become
better. Many adults take up golf, painting, dance, or other group activities instead. However, with
these activities, for them to

25. Flag Desecration Should Be Outlawed Essay
Flag Desecration Should Be Outlawed
On August 22, 1984, Texas resident Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested for burning an American flag
during a protest of the Republican National Convention. Johnson had violated a Texas flag desecration
law officially known as the Texas Venerated Objects law, which outlawed intentionally or knowingly
desecrating a national flag (Goldstein 197).
Johnson took his case to the United States Supreme Court. In 1989, the Supreme Court ruled, by a five
to four vote, that the Texas law was unconstitutional (Goldstein 202). Since that 1989 ruling, several
attempts have been made to amend the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
RES. 33 32).
I do not believe that burning the flag will diminish the flag s symbolism. Since Gregory Johnson s flag
burning actions in 1984, Americans have not suddenly decided that the flag no longer stands for the
millions who have given their lives to protect the United States. We still sing The Star Spangled
Banner with our hats off and our hands over our hearts. We still celebrate and commemorate the
Fourth of July, Veteran s Day, and Memorial Day. We still give the Pledge of Allegiance (although,
according to a Supreme Court ruling in the 1940 s, we are not required to do so).
Despite the fact that flags are burned in protest, millions of American flags fly from the flagpoles of
schools, government institutions, and the homes of our citizens. The American flag has not been
diminished or demolished because of the actions of a few people who choose to express their opinions
via burning a flag. To quote John Lewis, a member of the United States House of Representatives (D
GA), Is our flag so weak that it cannot withstand public desecration and attack? Is our flag so weak
that we must pass laws to protect it? No, our flag is greater than that (H.J. Res. 33 19).

The main motive behind creation of CBP was preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from
entering the United States thus preventing attacks such as the 9/11 on US soil. CBP is also responsible
in apprehending individuals illegally entering the country as well as those with a criminal record. It is
accountable for stemming the flow of illegal drugs and other contraband, protecting United States
agricultural and economic interests from harmful pests and diseases, and protecting American
businesses from intellectual property theft. As the world s first full service border entity, CBP takes a
comprehensive approach to border management and control, combining customs, immigration, border

The men and women of CBP are responsible for enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws and regulations. On
a typical day, CBP welcomes nearly 1 million visitors, screens more than 67,000 cargo containers,

28. Elementary School And High School
Class is defined as a group of people who have a similar level of wealth and income. Even though this
ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be
considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one
elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown in
number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a smaller
amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for every 4
or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents. High
schools quickly become established in large district areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue because
if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects the quality
of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor education and
have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to graduates that attained
a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social mobility of low income
school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income graduates to enact in high
risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not properly prepared to be college
ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher income schools through student
performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral issues/stigmas.
Differences in student performance on college preparatory exams is the first noticeable difference
between low income schools and higher income schools. Bryan Station had a larger percentage of
students that underperformed and scored a lower average mean ACT composite score compared to
Fayette County and Kentucky. The average ACT score of a Bryan Station student is 18.1, compared to
the county average of 21.4 and the state average of 19.1 (Startclass, 2016). Compared to Henry Clay,

30. Essay on Newfound Popularity of Books From the 1900 s
How many books were published from 1920 to 1959? 792 and that s only the bestsellers. Four of the
books published within this time frame weren t bestsellers, but they are some of the most famous
books of the 20th century. Those books are The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Winnie The Pooh, and
Mein Kampf. But why weren t they bestsellers if so loved now? Many critics say that The Lord of The
Rings set the standard for all epic fantasy books written since it was published. This marvelous trilogy
was published in 1954, after J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of this fantastic series, took 10 years to write
it. Yet, Tolkien never expected his books to be such a success worldwide, even though the book her

Devil in a Blue Dress: Novel vs. Film The hardboiled mystery novel, Devil in a Blue Dress, by Walter
Mosley was first published in 1990 and was acknowledged by former U.S. President, Bill Clinton, as
one of his many favorite novelists (Easy Writer). Taking place in post war Los Angeles, the story is
narrated by an African American laborer, Easy Rawlins, who is transformed into an L.A. detective
after being pulled in to the affairs of local townspeople. The successful novel continued onto screen
adaptation in 1995 and was directed by Carl Franklin and starred Denzel Washington, who also
financed and produced the film (Easy Writer). From a well liked hardboiled detective novel to a

In addition to the differences seen through Easy s point of view, there are also several differences in
how the author and director utilize certain effects to obtain a dark tone. The screen adaptation paid
homage to the dark tone perceived in the novel through lighting and a voiceover narration from Easy.
Several scenes in the movie appear to have darker lighting than others. This effect allows viewers to
feel the mysterious and secretive mood that is intended. In the scene where Easy visits John s
nightclub the lighting in the movie portrays the room as very dark and musty. The room itself is very
enclosed and secretive since the owner, John, was into the speakeasy business before Prohibition was
repealed. The nightclub itself is for the black community and has a very low key reputation. To show
the secretive, mysterious reputation of the nightclub, Franklin shoots the scene with little to no
lighting (Devil in a Blue Dress Movie 1995). Throughout the film the audience is led through Easy s
point of view, which is heard through his voiceover narration. According to a movie review by Edwin
Jahiel, Washington s voice is rather too sweet, lacks the tough staccato... . Again, we see actors
blocking take effect as Washington attempts to live up to his typical role as the good guy . The movie
takes a much different approach towards Easy s character, which results in a smooth, legato narration.

Nationalism is the strong belief that the interests of a particular nation state is of primary importance.
It also is the belief that a people who share a common language, history, and culture should have an
independent nation. Nationalism is shown in many ways throughout World War I, the Interwar Years,
and World War II. It is shown in nationalists groups such as the KMT, through new ideas such as
Nazism or Fascism, and during events that happen during wars and revolutions, such as the Salt
