Focus group
In this task I will be asking 4-6 students aged 16-18 what they would like to see on
the front cover, contents page and double page spread of an RnB/Hip-hop music
magazine.
 What image would you like to see on the front cover of the magazine?
The general idea I got from this question was that the students would like to
see one main image of an artist that is popular now and is current, for it to be
bold and implying to the younger market.
 What colours would you like to find throughout this magazine?
There were a mixture of colours the students picked, the male students within
the focus group picked predominately blues and greens and went on to
express that these colours would attract the audience as there bright and calm
colours. The females picked colours like pinks and purples and two picked red
explaining that these colours are eye catching.
 How would you like the cover lines to be set out?
They each made it clear that they would prefer to have the cover lines short
and snappy, with pull out quotes because this would engage the reader to
find out what the article inside is about.
 What types of things would you like to find in the magazine?
-Articles on music celebrities
-Gossip
-Full image poster of music star (freebies)
These were some of the points the students made in which they would like to
have within this magazine, they then went to express how they would like ‘a
lot from a little,’ which I believe meant that they would like find lots about
RnB/Hip-hop but for it to only cost a small amount, a affordable for a younger
market.
 What type of language would you like to find within this magazine?
They said they would like it to be informal as it’s an RnB/Hip-hop magazine it
wouldn’t connect as a piece if the writing was than to be formal also younger
reader would like to see informality.
 How much text would you except?
Some asked for more images throughout the magazine but some asked
for a balance of the two but for it not to be overwhelmed with text.
