your media product?

Preliminary Task
• Who would be the audience for your media
product?
• Prelim; the audience is definitely all the Nower
Hill High School students because the magazine is
based on their school, and the information in the
contents page is only relevant to them and other
people of their teenage age. In the contents page
we talk about GCSEs, these are now only relevant
to High School students because they have not
completed their GCSEs yet.
Main Task
• Young teenagers (10-14) This is the main age as ‘Pop’ is a younger genre of music
and a lot more popular amongst this age range. Girls would be the main audience
as the ‘Pop’ genres audience is predominantly girls based. However this audience
is a niche in the market as there are less pop magazines than ever in the UK
market. Many young girls are targeted by top chart songs and posters of boys,
instead of general pop music, this is why many of the pop magazines I’ve been
looking at have a celebrity gossip side to them, including many artists and people
who have absolutely nothing to do with the pop genre but attract a wider
audience. If my magazine was only dedicated to pop music then I may attract a
niche audience. Through my interviews I tried to understand what the target
audience wanted in their double page spreads. The overwhelming feedback was
that interviews were by far the most popular. I then continued to ask what type of
questions, not just your average mundane questions. So I tried to mix soft
questions that were easy for my artist to answer and more direct gritty questions
that would intrigue the reader. I hope by doing this I could attract a more mature
audience, although the font of my text is young and colorful, I would hope that the
context is interesting and more serious to other pop magazines. By using an older
teenager on my front cover I would hope it reflects my target audience straight
away, as young girls would be attracted to this.
