MUSIC MAGAZINE:
QUESTIONNAIRE ANALYSIS
By Karen Nguyen
1. How old are you?
1. When I conducted
this questionnaire I was
targeting my audience
to be around the age of
12-19 years.
2. From this age I sub-dived them into
groups of three e.g. 12-14, 15-17 and
18-19 by doing this I can gather
different types of information from the
target audience in those certain age
range.
3. The gender of my
questionnaire is fair
because 6 were male and 6
were female.
2. What colour do you like in a music magazine?

BLACK WHITE RED BLUE OTHER
colours
From the bar chart on the left, the audience
liked the colour white and red the most and
also other colours the audience suggested
the colours pink and yellow. This tells me
that the audience would like bright colours
to be used on the magazine. Colours such as
blue, red, pink and yellow are the choices of
colours that I can consider using on my
music magazine. As my magazine is
targeted to teenage girls within their teens
colours such as red, pink and yellow are
options that would likely use on my
magazine unlike the colour blue which
usually associated with boys so that colour
would not be used.
3. Which famous music artist/artist’s would like to read about
in music magazines?
1. From this question I wanted an
understanding which artist/ artist that
my audience were interested in. I noticed
from the feedback of my audience that
different age groups preferred different
artists. 2. For example, from my
youngest target audience
aged 12-14 liked the band one
direction and male artists
such as Justin Bieber.
3. From this I can apply this to my main task by
using these artist as my cover line to attract my
audiences attention as they like them so they would
want to read about them.
4. Which typography (font) do you like in a music magazine?

APRES
NEWS GOTHIC
FONT TYPE
From the bar chart on the left it shows
that the target audience preferred
other font of text on their magazine
fonts such as Ariel, comic sans and
times new roman. So when I carry out
making my actual magazine I would
consider adding these texts on to it, as
my audience are teenage girls I would
like to add more fun and exciting texts
similar to bubble writing because then
it will reflect my target audience in the
correct way.

MALE FEMALE
This bar chart on the left shows that my target
audience preferred to see a female celebrity on
the front of music magazine, 7/12 people
wanted a female and 5/12 wanted a male. This
shows that my audience would be more
attracted to female celebrities maybe for
reasons such as inspiration, role model or just
like the look of the celebrity. I could apply this
finding to my own magazine my having a main
image of a female as from my questionnaire
this is what the audience wanted .
6. What type of music magazine do you like to read?
When I conducted this question I was
interested in the variety of genre that
people aged 12-19 years old were
interested in. The main occurring genre
that came up continuously was :
POP & HIP HOP.
POP:
The majority of my target
audience was interested in pop
music because they like to be up
to date with latest music and
trends of society today.
HIP HOP:
The rest of my target audience liked to
listen to hip hop because they like to
listen to different types of hip hop
musicians that they looked up to and
enjoyed listening to.
7. How often do you read music magazines?
DAILY
17%
ONCE A WEEK
25%
ONCE A
MONTH
58%
From the pie chart on the left it
shows that my target audience do
not read music magazines often.
17% read music magazines daily,
25% once a week and 58% once a
month. It clearly shows that the
target audience hardly ever reads
magazine everyday but when they
do they want the magazine to be
interesting and stand out to them
for them to purchase the product.
From this information I can make
my magazine more interesting and
attract the audience to read my
magazine at least once a week.

and minimal amount of text
involved. I can reflect this own my
own magazine by making a double
page spread consisting of images
and text to please my audience.
10. What factors of music magazines makes you want to
read it ?
From this question I conducted above I
wanted know what makes the audience
read the music magazine they buy. By
doing this I can identify the factors that
would help me attract them as my
consumers to buy my product.
The audience said that factors such as a
famous celebrity main image and
interesting ‘gossip’ like cover lines would
draw them to read the magazines because
they thought it was good to keep up to
date with all the celebrity details.
