Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Project proposal title and date: The Concept of Her - 12/01/2021
Main area of activity: My project will be a short film, specifically centres around music so a music
video, an overlay, a soundtracked narrative or anything surounding those sort of themes.
Rationale: My FMP last year was based around horror, so I knew I wanted to do something with
an eerie/unsettling theme. I want to do something similar with the baseline of film as this is what
I’m most confident in, and what I feel the most inspiration for. Though I have been successful with
graphic aspects in previous projects my main ideas stem from film. To incoporate both I may add
some side graphics to go along with my main product, as then I can incorporate skills such as
graphic design, typography and writing if I were do to an article, or a poster. I was inspired into
doing a poetic horror short film with a double meaning as I’ve always had a love for deeper
meaning media and want to make something that makes an impact instead of just another horror
film. My idea developed from there into a cinematic narrative music video focusing around the
horror of harrasment and violence towards women, and portraying the effects of it. I’ve done a
music video in previous projects and have improved both technical and imaginitive skills since
then, so I believe I can create a high quality end product.
Project Concept: My project will be a video narrative, focusing primarily on a woman in distress
and depicting how she deals with trauma surrounding an incident with a man. She will be the main
focus of the project, with peotic cinema providing visualsiations of her internal struggles, such as
underwater for ‘drowning’ or marks on body from rope, signifying being trapped. The project’s main
focus will be her, giving off an eerie feel of lonliness and sadness to the audience. I want it to really
convey the idea of her being trapped and the loss of control she feels due to what she’s
experienced and been through. I’d like to physcially portray the man if possible, as ideally would
like to choreograph some kind of rhythm between the two characters which really sells the idea of
him in control, and her breaking free of it in the end. The short film will be to music, though I’ve yet
to decide if the music will be a big part of the video, or just a background soundtrack to add to the
atmosphere. In summary, my concept is a woman dealing with trauma and a portrayal of the
emotions surrounding that, with an added success story of implied freedom near the end. Though
the actual details of my project to change, this is what I want the foundations to be.
For research I need to look into 3 key areas – existing products, music and soundtracks that
convey a similar message to what I want to explore, and the audience. For existing products I will
look into TV shows and film such as ‘Unbelievable’ which convery a similar message as to what I
want to express, as well as short films and music videos which are similar to the cinematography
and style (like poetic cinema) which I want to achieve. For music I need to look into songs that fit in
with what I want to make and how they’ve been used and interpreted. With audience I would be
looking mostly into a female demographic from all backgrounds, as what I want to portray happens
to almost all women. I would also look into a feminist perspective as well as how men receive the
topic I’m associating my project with, in order to know how to make it the most appealing to both
as I want it to be relatable while also enlightening, depending on the audience.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: Every day that I’ve worked I will add to my
reflective journal and evaluate the work I’ve done that day. This will allow me to refelct in detail
throughout the project rather than just at the end, and make adjustments as I go along as
necessary. I will also use vlogs to evluate and summarise the more complex parts of the project
throughout, such as planning and production. For my final self reflection I will do a vlog combined
with a highly detailed written evluation, as well as feedback from peers. This will definitely provide
more insight into my work as by this point I will be used to self reflecting, and fresh opinions would
give me more effective feedback. I will use both my ongoing reflections and final peer/self
evaluations which I will then take into account and apply to future projects/work in my media
career. This will help further my work quality level and my ability to use critcism effectively.
