Target Audience
Males and females (though leaning towards males) around the 18 – 24 year old area, mostly in
America where the issue of Orcas in captivity is most talked about. They will be working – middle
class, and have a reformer personality type as they need to want change in the treatment of
animals, and should be empathetic towards to cause I’m promoting in my documentary.
Rationale:
I have learned multiple skills in terms of video editing which I believe would be helpful in this
project as I need to combine both filmed interviews and found footage. In addition, Audition will be
useful for making sure my audio is clear and at a level volume, as well as adding music to my
narration. For music, I could use Garage band, which I have also learned in a previous project.
Finally, my FMP lead me to make a survey for audience research which so I can reapply those
skills to this project.
Project Concept:
The concept is an awareness video on how Orcas are treated in captivity. It’s going to be made in
a campaign like style, and explore the treatment of Orcas in aquariums and their overall happiness
and lifestyle compared to their wild counterparts. I will use specific cases, like Hugo and Lolita, to
back my claims up, and use real factual evidence and numbers to get my point across and make
an emotive but factual video for my audience.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will review this project as I go along, evaluating every part of planning, research and production. I
will also include a self reflection at the end, and ask my peers to evaluate too so I have an outside
perspective.
