The document is a proposal from Samuel Johnson for a film project titled "That's Life". The proposal provides details on Samuel's rationale for choosing film as his medium, the concept for the story which follows a character dealing with depression and coming to terms with his life, and inspiration taken from other works like Joker. It includes a bibliography of research sources and a weekly schedule and tasks for pre-production, production, evaluation, and presentation of the project. The proposal seeks to create a short film and additional advertising materials about a character finding happiness after facing troubles.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Samuel Johnson 357828
Project proposal title and date:
That’s Life 12/01/21
Main area of activity:
I generallywork in the medium offilm,as I find it the most effective way in which to express myselfand the
ideas which fuel my creative drive, in turn providing better content for my portfolio, over any other medium of
creative expression.
Rationale:
Over this course,we’ve dabbled with a variety of media related projects, from print,to audio,to video and
even animation and much like during the level 2 course,I’ve found myselfenjoying video work the most
gratifying of the lot, allowing me to better presentand innovate my ideas to a higher degree, compa red to the
other means ofexportation.I think video, at leastfor me,gives me more freedom of which to express and
function in a simpler manner,as with the others, they rely on presenting ones ideas through more arduous
means as one is purelyaudio based, the other is still imageryand the lasttakes a huge amountof both
artistry talent and time to produce something remotelygood.Whereas video displays a very clear picture and
primarilyand mostsignificantlyrequires the prowess ofactors to impacton the clarity of said picture,of which
is easier to manage than software to make up the entirety of a product. That’s not to say the software isn’tan
importantaspectoffilm making,I believe the projects over the route of this course have helped heighte n my
handling ofthe software to a better degree and therefore will have an evident impacton the quality of the
production. However, as mentioned Idon’twant to solelyrely on the software to create my project, as one
would do so for the other 3, but rather I want to presentmy prowess in camera work, ofwhich I believe to be
a great practical skill to acquire and something which Ibelieve I can better manage than the software itself.
Furthermore,I’ve experienced the challenge ofmaking a music video before and therefore I believe with that
pastexperience,I can hope to have gained insightfrom it and better my music video this time round for the
FMP. Of course, the music will be different, and the setting will differ too, but I understand the basic p rocess
of making one from earlier in the course, giving me confidence moving forward.
Project Concept:
My story will rotate around the current life events of an unnamed character, whom ofwhich is going through
some troubled times and using differentmeans to deal with said trauma, with the timeline ofhis story slowly
flourishing into a happier state as he comes to terms with his dire circumstances. The circumstance athand
being his overwhelming sense ofdepression, due to his collapsed relationship and lack of job opportunity, of
which we will see reference to during the course ofthe video, with the music ‘That’s Life’ by Frank Sinatra
playing a key role in the timings to what’s seen on screen atcertain points. For example, the lyrics ‘you’re
flying high in April, shotdown in May’ correlating to his uplifting marriage the month prior and his dispiriting
divorce 30 days later, which will have an air of dark humour surrounding itdue to the absurdityof such an
outlived event, immediatelycutting from one drastic to another in the course of a few lyrics. Though as the
story progresses and all means ofresolving the problems he faces have failed,he comes to terms with his
role in life and despite the solemn acthe wishes to perform (suicide),we see a clear gleam radiate from
within his character and for the first time we see him truly happy, with the environmentaround him correlating
with his positive demeaner.
As for my main inspiration revolving around this concept, the closestthing which correlates to it would have to
be Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’,a story which revolves around the life of a troubled soul, who slowlydescends into
hysteria as more and more troublesome circumstances weigh heavilyon top of him.Leading his character to
also come to terms with his many issues and justacceptthe role passed down to him and in turn becoming
happier for it, despite the obvious repercussions in the heinous acts he wishes to perform.

Research music videos
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I’ll look to evaluate my work by reflecting on pastplanning and see how ithas stacked up in comparison to my
final product, seeing where and how it affected the outcome as predicted or how it altered and why.
Furthermore,I’ll compare it to existing products and see how it matches up in terms of quality, looking at
products which I’ve analysed previouslyduring research stages. Furthermore, over the course of the project I
will be continuallylogging posts aboutwhatstage I’m atin the process,whatwork/research was conducted
during that stage and how I hope it will impactthe latter stages ofthe project, primarilysurroundin g the
production of the video I’m intending to create. On top of that, by the end of each week, I will produce a short
vlog to round up everything that I’ve done for that week; basically, covering over all my research logs and
providing the assessor with a more in-depth overview of whatI’ve achieved and proving to them that whathas
been done will actually provide use.
