My Pitch for a Horror Film Trailer, Poster, and Website
1. My Pitch
{
Here I will explain my main ideas of my main task (film
trailer) and my two ancillary tasks (poster and website)
2. Title: Dead End
Age certificate: 15
Target audience: 15-20
Genre: Horror
Time: 1-2 minutes
Main task: Basic details
3. I have decided to create a horror film trailer for
my main task. I picked this genre because the age
group of 15-20 are most interested in this genre
and it is very popular at the cinemas.
Furthermore I find the genre interesting myself
and therefore will enjoy creating the overall final
product. The special effects that are included in
this genre, I have noticed really make the trailer
so I will include sound and effects to enhance the
footage further. The horror genre is able to play
on the audiences primal fears which I will try to
think about when creating it.
Main task: Genre
4. My characters will include generic and conventional
aspects. My main character will be a young naïve girl
who will be the victim. She will be relatable to the
audience therefore they can connect and feel for her
when things go wrong. I will evoke emotions by the
connection between the audience and the young girl.
I will also include a masked villain in the plot he/she
will follow/stalk the young girl and terrorize her. The
whole trailer will build up her being captured by the
villain and leave the viewers wondering how it ends.
Main task:
characterization
5. My trailer will be put up on YouTube allowing a
mass audience to see it and during adverts of
channels popular of teens such as BBC 3, E4 etc.
that way I will be targeting the audience most
likely to enjoy the trailer and eventually go see
the film. It may also be seen as a preview in the
cinemas to allow cinema lovers to see a sneak
peak of the film.
Main task: advertisement
6. I am inspired by the movie trailer ‘the strangers’
because of the concept and the way in which it
was filmed. I will include elements of this one in
my own in order to evoke fear.
Main task:
inspirational texts
7. I want to begin the trailer by introducing the film company who created it.
Then the screen will fade out and fade in to a young girl sitting in her
living room, the doorbell will ring but no one is there. Then it will cut to a
text clip saying ‘based on true events’. The main girl in the trailer will
receive several calls but when she answers there is only the sound of heavy
breathing on the other line.
Next I will use a jump cut that shows a man standing in a mask, it will cut
quickly as he approaches nearer to the screen. Then it will fade out to a text
clip saying ‘everyone has a past they cant escape from’. Then it will cut to a
close up shot of a key going in the door. Suddenly the girl will appear on a
field with a blind fold on unaware of where she is. At this time incidental
music is playing in the background giving tension and putting across a
sense of foreboding to the viewers. At the end of the trailer there will be a
final plead of help which is direct making the viewers involved as well. A
black screen will appear which a scream voice over and the title ‘Dead End’
will flicker like a light bulb and then for impact it will be Bold and zoom
in.
Main task: Plot
8. The main image for my poster will be of a chair
and a young girl sat on it on her laptop. She
will remain oblivious to her surroundings as
blood is on the walls and arms are coming from
behind her chair. The location of this image will
just be taken in a living room to add make it
more realist.
Ancillary task 1: poster
main image
9. The title will be featured in the top 3rd of my
magazine and will be written in red font. I will
use a font to mimic it written in blood adding
to the horror and gory effect. This will take up
quite a portion of my poster and therefore will
be eye catching and should stand out. The
slogan of the film will be featured below the
title and will be memorable so much so when
seen it will instantly recognizable.
Ancillary task 1: title and
slogan
10. These will be featured on the bottom third of
my poster and in smaller print than the title
this is because my actors will be unknown and
therefore wont be the reason people chose to
see my film. The director (me) is also unknown
and new therefore will be featured in small
print because its less important.
Ancillary task 1: cast and
director
11. From my survey I found that people use film posters as a way
of being aware of the film, due to this my poster will be
featured on billboards, bus stops, in cinemas and online. This
way my poster will reach a mass audience. I will also ensure it
is as aesthetically pleasing as possible as it will be featured for
many to see.
Ancillary Task 1: Outlet
12. Web address: www.deadendfilm.com
Main features: Trailer, about us, cast and crew,
gallery, downloads
Featured: social media accounts, on the film
poster and the trailer itself
Ancillary Task 2: website
main ideas
13. About: will give a brief overview of the
plot/storyline of the film, also including a little bit of
background information on the film company
Cast and crew: this will include profiles about each
of the characters and the actor/actresses that play
them. Also include information about the director
and crew.
Trailer: this feature will show the film trailer giving
a sneak peek of what the film is about.
Gallery: this feature will include images of behind
the scenes giving further insight into the film than
what's already been seen on the trailer.
Downloads: this feature will allow the audience to
download the films images as their wallpaper.
Ancillary task 2: features
14. My main image will be the base for everything
on the website and will also be the main focus
of the viewers eyes. I will place the features
(hyperlinked) on the top third of my website
and beneath this I will have links to social
media. I will also have an option to chose
which country you are viewing this from to
open my audience up further.
Ancillary task 2:
Layout/design
15. These film websites inspire me
because of their layout and how they
are interactive with their viewer. I
like how they both feature images of
the film as their base. On the dark
knight rises website it includes the
release date I would like to
incorporate this in my own to create
a higher awareness. The layouts are
professional and stick well to their
genre. This is what I will do when
creating my own website.
Ancillary task 2: Inspired
websites
16. After surveying the public via social media (twitter) I have
found the following results:
My target audience is 15-20 year olds predominantly females
Horror is their favourite Genre
The trailer is influential when deciding to go see a film
Trailers are more likely to be viewed online
My audience prefer shorter trailer 30seconds to 1 minute
The storyline/plot is the biggest factor people consider when
going to see a film
This survey has allowed me to gather results and come to a
conclusion of what my target audience want to see. Giving me
further knowledge on what I should focus all my attention on.
Research and surveys
17. Although my ideas may change and progress
over time these are my initial ideas which I am
quite pleased with. I will take on board any
feedback and improve accordingly.
The End.
