The medium I will mostly work in is graphic design, however I will also branch out into video/audio
too as I plan to make a podcast.
Rationale:
After two years on this course my production abilities in terms of demonstrating technical ability
has improved. However I would still like to improve them. One example of a skill I have learned
includes manipulating photos by editing them. This will be used in my FMP, as I can create things,
which have a creative meaning behind them. I can construct something that denotes what I would
like it to my audience. Previously I have chosen to focus on creating football-based products.
While researching my fanzine I gained an understanding on the conventions used in articles.
Including the impact images had on me as a viewer and what these images conveyed. This will
have an impact upon my product as I can now see what needed improving previously, such as the
images used and the lack of originality in them. I realised that for this project I would like to make
the images look better through Photoshop or create my own images using shapes.
Project Concept:
The concept for my project is to make a Liverpool FC online outlet, with the main part of this being
a website, I will use Word Press as the website’s domain. From this website I aim to keep it
running after I have finished my FMP. It will be updated with all the latest news surrounding the
club and I will also include my own articles. I may make a Twitter page for the website in order to
promote it and gain more interactions. I will use Photoshop for the graphics. I am going to create a
podcast on the which can be uploaded to YouTube. The research for this project will start with me
looking into the theory behind mediums, such as graphic design and journalism as well as looking
into the theory of podcasts. This research allows me to better my understanding of the creative
meaning behind work and it will help me learn why certain previous products have become
successful and I can use this knowledge by implementing it into my own work. I am also going to
do research on existing products as this will allow me to learn about the conventions of similar
products and I will find out what makes each one of them successful/ unsuccessful.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will make a development diary when I am doing my research and creating existing products.
Doing this daily rather than weekly will allow me to analyse my work so I can specifically pinpoint
exactly what has gone well and what needs improving. For the short term it will help me plan
exactly what I need to do and work on the next day and for the long term it will show how I have
improved over time and where I have gone wrong and how I can do things differently if I create
something similar. I will do a final evaluation, which will include feedback from other people, but I
will be analysing the entire project in detail and discussing the strengths and weaknesses and how
areas could improve. This will benefit me as I would like to pursue a career in journalism so when I
create work in the future, I will have this experience to see how I can work more efficiently.
