Main area of activity:
The main area of my project will be print and graphic design.
Rationale:
Over the space of the last two years I have done various projects and learnt a variety of different
skills. I have made pixel video games, short films and most importantly various magazine covers
and articles. During these I have used different software to create these products, the main
software I used was Photoshop. I used this for both production and and image editing. I will be
using these same skills in the fashion magazine I will be making. as I I am taking my own images
these will need to be colour corrected and edited before being place in my magazine I will then be
using my skills to design the pages, this will include backgrounds, designs text and images.
Project Concept:
For my project I will be creating a streetwear fashion magazine looking at various different clothing
styles and trends. My magazine will look at the history of certain brands, future releases, iconic
figures in the scene, practical wear (outdoors), and historical influences on streetwear e.g garage
raving. My magazine will follow a simplistic design using photos I have taken myself. To help me
make my product I will be conducting both primary and secondary research. I will be doing primary
research of interviews and a questionnaire to gather information about the product. I will then be
doing secondary research by looking in to similar magazines and what works for them I will
analyse the techniques used and try to use them in my own work. I want to keep my magazine
interesting with each page drawing the reader in. I will use a lot of different colours and designs
that will be based on the topic I am covering. I want each pages design to reflect the company or
business. I think that the magazine will be appealing to the reader as it covers a broad range of
male fashion topics, I think although the more varied approach could potentially mean less detail
on certain areas the magazine will be more unique and interesting. My magazine will focus more
on images rather than texts however I will aim to make it still very informative.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
My project will be evaluated in several ways. I will evaluate my work in sections, I will look at what I
have done well, what I could of done better and how I could change if I was to do the project again.
I will also record other peoples views of my work and get feedback. I will then compare my work to
existing magazines and products similar to mine. This will give me an idea of my work in
comparison to professional level magazines. I have kept a weekly diary that I will include this diary
is a weekly evaluation of my work and progress. This project will help me in future as I can look at
the feedback I have been given and apply it to my future work.
