2. Game narrative
• My game is more being based around the idea of a cross genre between an action and horror genre
game, this I think is a quite unique idea to create a game from especially the idea of the cross genre
being action and horror, which is also quite unique as action and horror could be classed as the same
genre but in actual fact they aren’t. It will work by the idea of the action part of the game coming first
with the more friendly appeal and bright colors, as we need it to draw in the players/viewers more
which will be done easily via the bright/happy background. Throughout the action part of the game it
will be more based round working your way through the stage avoiding/jumping over enemies. Then
horror stage of my game will emphasise a much different style/approach as it will include the idea of a
much darker/dingy background to emphasise the idea of the danger in the horror genre, in this part of
the game you will be more aimed around defeating/killing enemies and avoiding what they throw/shoot
you with. I decided to have this section of my game to be he second part because it needs a tension
build up coming up towards it as it will excite/put the player on the edge of there seat more.
3. Style sheet
I feel that this darker colour scheme will much suit the idea of the horror part of my video
game because from looking at them you can see that they are quite dark and goth like colours,
which in my opinion is the reference of the kind of colours that you would use in the horror
part of a video game. Although they are all dark colours I get the sense that they are quite
opposite standing colors i.e. purple and red, but that is what will make it appear to be so
unique and drawing towards the audience as even though they are dark/dingy colours they are
still colours that really will help to emphasise the horror part of my video game.
With this lighter colour scheme I am going to be more aiming it around the idea of the action
part of my video game. I have chosen these colors as they are much brighter colours and appeal
to be more appealing and warming towards an audience. These colours also can be seen to
represent parts of the background I will be making I.e. blue for water/the sky and bright green
for the grass. These colours are also a goof choice to use as with my action part of my game
coming first, you want the game to be appealing/warming towards the player/viewer so that it
makes them want to continue/go further into my game and that is what these colors do.
4. Style sheet
This kind of character would be he perfect
sort to be the playable character for the
action part of my game. This is because the
colour clothes of which he is wearing are
similar colours to the earth background
setting i.e. grass/mud. This I feel would be
good to include with my character as it
would make my character relatable to the
setting/background of my game and could
maybe make the game seem more
friendly/appealing to some.
This kind of style of character would be perfect to use
in the horror section of my game as from looking at it
you can see that the general colours of the character
look to be more horror based via the purple/blue and
red. But not only that, also the fact of the
weapon/sword of which this character is holding. I
feel that this is something of which I should add into
my character for the horror part as they need a
weapon to be able to destroy/the kill the enemies.
Also the purple/red on the character would contrast
with the background of the horror background.
In my production I feel that it could appear to be confusing for the player/viewer with the character
changing clothes/figure. I plan to make it seem understanding by having something you run/walk into at
the end of the first level and your character will change outfit/clothes appearing into the next level.
I feel that the main colour of clothing of which my character should wear should be more based around a
grey-ish colour as it will give the appeal of the two genres that feature in my game which would be a good
idea as it means that I wont have to change the clothes of my character mid way through my game, which
will save me a lot of time to carry on with the rest of my production i.e background features.
5. Style sheet
This type of text I feel would be beneficial for my game as again it is giving that chunky/bold
appeal towards it but some of the letters have been put out of place (either slightly higher
or lower than ) this gives a kind of weird feeling towards it. This is the kind of menu of which
I might use this type of text as the font for the menu to change in the horror side of the
game as it will make the game seem slightly different and in a way could appeal slightly to
the horror nature of the second part of my game.
This kind of text is something that I would consider using to display as my start menu, this is
because it features that kind of bold/chunky text that you would expect to see on a animation
video game. If I use a text of this kind with the chunky/bold style I feel that it would give the
player/audience/viewer a sense of familiarity which is good as it would also help to draw in a
wider audience.
8. What will you develop further from the layouts for your
FMP?
• From the layouts of which I created in the two previous slides, there is a few techniques of
which I feel I will carry over into my production but obviously to be doing that I will have to
be looking into the further and making them to be much more detailed/better looking. The
first idea that I feel that I will develop further for my production is more the idea of my
mountain background, now at this stage don’t get me wrong it does look good but I feel
that if I am to use that with my own production then I should more take a look at the way
they are shaped as in my opinion I don’t think they look quite mountainy enough,
especially the yellow sand mountains. The thing in these layouts of which I feel I will move
over to my final production is the idea of the pause/start menu, however before I start to
look at including it into my production, I first need to take a look at and I am 100% sure
that I will making the pause/start menu to have its own separate screen, meaning it can be
much bigger and easier to see/use when it came to looking/using it, not only that but I
generally think that it would be much more beneficial if it had its own screen as it will add
more content into my production.
10. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
computer crashing mid way through doing work. If the computer freezes don’t rush the computer, let
it take its time to sort it self out, if noting happens,
save your work and close down computer.
Computer freezing and restarting mid way through
doing work.
Make sure that you take time to save your work
throughout various stages , so that if the worse
comes to worse this happens, at least you have still
got the majority of your work from a previous save
point.
Memory stick corrupting mid way through saving
work.
Don’t rely on your memory stick to save work as it
can be very unreliable, always save work on H;-) drive
aswell.
Finding out that the general idea of which you were
hoping to create isn’t going to work out.
Be sure to create multiple ideas so that if your main
idea isn’t going to work out, you have other ideas of
which you could fall back on.
Not having the necessary recourses to create
something for your production.
Alter that particular idea so that you don’t need to
alter/change it so you are able to create it without
that set necessary recourse.
Work corrupting making it unable to save. Make sure you are saving Your work via multiple
methods e.g. emailing to yourself/memory stick/H;-)
drive.
11. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
spilling water over/near computer causing electrical
sparks and computer smoking.
make sure that I don’t leave any liquids of any form
around the work space/computers.
Computer overheating/getting way to hot then it
normally would be.
if I find that the computer is getting very hot, save
my work and turn the computer off at mains, moving
to a different computer.
Starting to feel nauche/eye strain/headaches from
looking at/working on computer for long period of
time.
Make sure that my chair is at the correct height so
that I am eye level with the computer, so that I aren’t
looking up/down.
Tripping up over lose wires/cables. Make sure that there isn’t any lose cables/wires lying
around that could cause a trip hazard.
Falling of chair Make sure that I am sat on a stable chair that has no
lose bolts/screws and moves up/down easily.
Electrical fire from plugs not being plugged in
properly
Before I come to using the computers, make sure
that the plugs are put in and turned on properly.
