Our video game, “Contrast” is a 2D game that will
explore into multiple genres within one game. Each
level will show the game in a different perspective
through the medium of various genres to create an
immersiveexperience for the player and to show
how interesting each genreis. We all have a passion
for this idea and webelieve it will work quite well.
Making the game will be a large undertaking but we
are willing to take the challenge and we havefull
confidence that we will producean excellent
product.
SynopsisofIdea (content,
narrative,genre)
The purposebehind this projectis to showcaseour
team’s individual game-development skills. We all
have different roles within our group and each have
a unique look towards gamedevelopment. I
personally prefer programming and finding bugs
within the code and overall helping with the coding
process. Jamie’s strong pointis planning and
managing the group, making surewe’re all on track
and within our scheduled time for working on each
task. He also works on sound design, doing Foley
work, recording sounds to usein our game. Ben is
our overall lead programmer and designer,
producing a large amount of the code within the
game and creating a vastamount of sprites and in
game assets. Ross is the lead designer and the
leader of the project, working on a bit of everything
but doing a large amount of the art. He also

manages the group, making surewe’reall on track

Elliot works on coding with me and Ben, as well as
producing art for the weapons in the game as well
as producing sound assets.
Callum is one of the designers and the head of
sound design, doing a large bulk of sound
production and editing the physicalrecordings.
Speaking of which, Connor Ross and Elliot will be
recording the main music of the game using
physicalinstruments which will be edited later in
reaper.
With 6 people working in unison in a group, it is
clear to know that we havedifferent interests and
different ideas when comes to games, music, art
styles etc. Using this we can create a game with
many varying game styles, be it a Platformer, Hack
and Slash or a Horror game, wehave different ideas
for game, which we plan to merge into one,
through the useof gameplay and audio such as
music or foley artistry that you would anticipate
fromdifferent genres. Our game begins with a
Woman fully geared up with armour and weapons
walking towards spooky catacombs. Onceinside,
she searches around and over her shoulder, a pair
of glowing, evil eyes can be seen and with a scream
the camera sharply fades to black. Knowing only
that your sister left to cleanse the evil from
Manduumcatacombs It’s up to you, the character,
to save her and the world of Tarcston fromthe
great evil within.
Target Audience?
(demographicNOTage range)
The audience can vary widely between males and
females but it can be considered more lenient
towards the male demographic with the use of
medieval like weapons and gruesomelooking
ghouls. Though it would be mostly targeted
towards a teenage to young adult demographic due

to the game being quite reminiscent of early
dungeon crawler games like The Legend Of Zelda
Franchisewhich would have been around in the
time that the demographic was starting to play
video games, aiming for a nostalgic feeling towards
the game that will bring back memories, due to the
gameplay mechanics and overall feel of the game
being somewhatreminiscent of classics such as
that.
How will your project meet the
needs of your target audience?
Our target demographic will be pleased with the
overall look and feel of the game whilstalso
enjoying the gameplay mechanics, giving this game
both good playability and appealing aesthetics
which is usually a large divide in most games. With
such a wide demographic which doesn’tsingle any
formof gamer out, it’s difficult to be able to meet
the requirements of each of them, however with
such an ambitious project, focusing on many genres
rather than justa single one, hopefully we can do
our best to meet many players standards.
With the rangeof Genres, it also makes it possible
for us to implement different kinds of themes with
the artistry and the music, creating a unique feel in
each area of the game unlike previous ideas that
were very narrow and closed in that department.
Whatproductiontechniques
will you use to realise your
project?
Along the entire creative process, wewill be using a
wide range of programs to create various parts of
our game.
We will be using game maker to do all of the game
design and coding as well as the majority of the
sprite being created within the programas well.
Reaper will be our main sound editing/production
tool, with its effect manipulation effects, it makes a
fitting programto create and edit sounds to match
our themes. We will also use a bit of Photoshop to
add small details to sprites that would otherwisebe
impossibleto make within game maker, such as
glows, gradients etc… We will also usePhotoshop
to create images for an opening cut scene, in a
