Flow injection analysis (FIA) is an automated analytical technique where a sample is injected into a continuous flowing carrier stream that mixes with other reagent streams before reaching a detector. FIA allows for rapid analysis of many samples. There are four main categories of FIA techniques: flow injection, sequential injection, bead injection, and sequential injection chromatography. FIA utilizes injection valves, pumps, reactors, tubing manifolds, and detectors to introduce samples and reagents and detect analytes. It has been used to analyze a wide variety of environmental, clinical, agricultural, industrial, and pharmaceutical samples.
