Technology advances in flexible displays and substrates
Flexible displays can be produced on plastic or other flexible materials and attached to surfaces in various shapes. AMOLED displays are well-suited for flexible displays as they do not require backlighting and can be produced using roll-to-roll manufacturing. The FlexUp technology allows for high temperature processing of flexible displays on glass carriers before debonding and transferring the circuitry onto flexible plastic substrates. Passivation layers and encapsulation techniques help protect flexible AMOLEDs from stress and moisture during bending. i2R e-paper uses liquid crystals and pigment layers that reflect light to display images without power by mimicking the appearance of ordinary paper.

Technology advances in flexible displays and substrates
Flexible displays can be produced on plastic or other flexible materials and attached to surfaces in various shapes. AMOLED displays are well-suited for flexible displays as they do not require backlighting and can be produced using roll-to-roll manufacturing. The FlexUp technology allows for high temperature processing of flexible displays on glass carriers before debonding and transferring the circuitry onto flexible plastic substrates. Passivation layers and encapsulation techniques help protect flexible AMOLEDs from stress and moisture during bending. i2R e-paper uses liquid crystals and pigment layers that reflect light to display images without power by mimicking the appearance of ordinary paper.
Flexible display
This technical seminar discusses electronic paper (e-paper) and flexible displays. E-paper is a display that is flexible and can be bent like paper. It has a wide viewing angle and low power consumption. E-paper was first developed in the 1970s and works by having black and white particles move to the top or bottom of capsules to create an image. Flexible displays allow users to interact with devices by twisting, bending, and folding. E-paper has applications in electronic shelf labels, e-books, and could replace newspapers and books in the future. The seminar covers the history, construction, functionality, advantages, and applications of e-paper and flexible displays.

Flexibility enables displays that conform to complex shaped things such as wrists and backpacks and that can be fit inside pens and other tubes. Along with other technologies, this further facilitates information access.

The sensor market is still growing impressively, but needs to reinvent itself to avoid commoditization
While many are fearing a general slowdown due to smartphone market saturation, our forecast is rather optimistic concerning sensors. Driven by the expansion of the smartphone category over other phones and new applications, the sensor industry for cellphones and tablets is expected to grow at a 9.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2015-2021. The market was worth US$12B in 2015, and will reach US$21B by 2021. The sensor offering has never been so diverse. The list includes: Accelerometers, gyroscopes, gyroscope for optical image stabilization (OIS), magnetometers, e-compasses, inertial measurement units (IMUs), including nine degree-of-freedom (9DOF) IMUs, microphones, pressure sensors, humidity and temperature (H&T), gas, ambient light sensors (ALS), proximity, red/green/blue (RGB) color sensors, heart rate monitors (HRMs), laser rangers, 3D cameras, CMOS image sensors (CISs), fingerprint and iris recognition. Makers of all such sensors need to stay at the cutting edge of innovation. Are OTFTs ready to disrupt the display industry and enable fully-flexible devices?
ORGANIC TFTS ARE ENTERING THE FAB BY THE BACK DOOR
When trying to build a flexible display panel, the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) matrix is one of the most challenging and fragile functional layers.
Interest in OTFT emerged in the mid-2000s when mobility reached values similar to amorphous silicon (a-Si), the dominant display backplane technology. This triggered a flurry of activity at leading display manufacturers, and prototypes rapidly emerged. Besides fast-improving electrical performance, OTFT’s intrinsic flexibility made the technology ideal for the realization of flexible displays. In 2007, the first ever flexible AMOLED panel was demonstrated by Sony and featured an organic TFT.
However, interest waned as performance and homogeneity issues persisted, and other TFT technologies like LTPS and metal oxide emerged.
Nevertheless, organic semiconductor companies kept perfecting their molecules and ink formulations, gaining a better understanding of the interaction between the materials, the transistor structure, and the manufacturing process. Consequently, performance in the lab improved by another order of magnitude. Combined with the explosive growth of flexible displays and the promise of a cost-efficient, solution-based manufacturing process, interest in OTFT has renewed.
Panel makers remain cautious, but a handful in Taiwan and China are currently attempting to retrofit older Gen 2.5 - 4.5 fabs with OTFT. These first attempts to move OTFT into mass production will be critical for the technology’s future. Failure in these initial industrialization attempts could be fatal for the OTFT industry, or, at the very least, set it back many years. However, if OTFT proves that it can be mass produced and enables panel makers to revive those obsolete fabs with high-margin flexible displays, there are no fundamental barriers prohibiting the technology from being quickly scaled up to fabs Gen 8 or above, and possibly challenge the vast market for traditional a-Si based panels like LCD TV, monitors, etc. In the long-term, because they are inherently solution-processable, OTFTs are also an ideal backplane candidate for additive manufacturing and fully printed displays.

Imaging technology, which is currently mainly cameras, is exploding into the automotive space, and is set to grow at 20% CAGR to reach $7.3B in 2021
INFOTAINMENT AND ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS) PROPEL AUTOMOTIVE IMAGING
Since 2008, when a recession acted as a wakeup call to the whole industry, the automotive market has undergone obvious structural change. Capitalizing on technologies initially developed for smartphones, electronics have invaded, and imaging technology is now taking center stage. From less than one camera per car on average in 2015, there will be more than three cameras per car by 2021, which means 371 million automotive imaging devices.
Cameras were initially mounted for ADAS purposes on high-end vehicles, with deep learning image analysis techniques promoting early adoption. The Israeli company Mobileye has been instrumental in bringing this technology to market, along with On Semiconductor, which provided the CMOS image sensor. Copycat competition will probably pick up as the market now justifies initial investment in design and technology. It is now a well-established fact that vision-based autonomous emergency braking (AEB) is possible and saves life. Adoption of forward ADAS cameras will therefore accelerate.
Growth of imaging for automotive is also being fueled by the park assist application, and 360° surround view camera volume is skyrocketing. While it’s becoming mandatory in the US to have a rearview camera, that uptake is dwarfed by 360° surround view cameras, which enable a “bird’s eye view” perspective. This trend is most beneficial to companies like Omnivision at sensor level and Panasonic and Valeo, which have become the main manufacturers of automotive cameras.
Mirror replacement cameras are currently the big unknown and take-off will primarily depend on its appeal and car design regulation. Europe and Japan are at the forefront of this trend, which should become slightly significant by 2021.
Solid state lidar is well talked about and will start to be found in high end cars by 2021. Cost reduction will be a key driver as the push for semi-autonomous driving will be felt more strongly by car manufacturers. The report will analyse the impact of lidar for automotive vision in detail.
Night vision cameras using Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) technology were initially perceived as a status symbol. However, they’re increasingly appreciated for their ability to automatically detect pedestrians and wildlife. LWIR will therefore become integrated into ADAS systems in future.
3D cameras will be limited to in-cabin infotainment and driver monitoring. This technology will be key for luxury cars and therefore is of limited use today.
If any significant semi-autonomous trend picks up, the technology will probably become mandatory, due to safety issues.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
