The nature of Cloud Licensing - SaaS
• Very little risk of non-compliance, but significant risk of
over-buying
• Agreements are simpler, and often subscription-based,
but still must be optimized:
– Usage tracking is often provided, but mainly to support platform
adoption and not to support cost optimization
• Simplicity can lull customers into a false sense of security,
as compliance is often far less a concern
• Customers must still manage certain compliance
scenarios, and more importantly focus on implementing
optimization measurements that provide the usage data
needed to quantify costs
