This document outlines the five kingdom classification system introduced by Robert Whittaker in 1967. The five kingdoms are: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia. It describes the key characteristics of each kingdom, including whether they are prokaryotic or eukaryotic, unicellular or multicellular, and their nutritional mode of photosynthesis, absorption, or ingestion. Margulis and Schwartz later modified this system in 1988 to consider genetics in addition to cellular organization and nutrition.
