The Importance Of Magic Faraway Tree School
Objective
To obtain information, facts and evidence, relating to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs and
present a critical analysis; thereby enabling Magic Faraway Tree School (MFTS) to make an
informed, research based decision about whether they should begin to initiate a BYOD policy in the
school.
Context of school
MFTS is in close proximity to Enchanted Distant Shrub CBD; with significant access to wireless
internet. The school is located in an affluent area; hence most students are from families with high
socio economic statuses. However, the school s technology is a little outdated. While it has an
Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) in each classroom; there are only two small computer labs, which do
not allow for 1 1 computing. The school has one class set (26) of iPads to share. To enable students
development of 21st century skills and adhere to the QTM (NSW DET 2003), the school wants to
extend their technology use, and aims to find out more about BYOD programs.
Summaries of a report and three articles that discuss the implementation of BYOD
NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K 12 Edition (Johnson et al. 2014)
Within the report, beginning on page 34, is a section entitled Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Time
to Adoption Horizon: One Year or Less. It explained the concept, BYOD, is not only limited to
schools, but also, extensively to work environments. Relevant to teaching, it discussed BYOD s
relevance for teaching, learning and creative inquiry. The vocabulary used, such as;

An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for...
An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord
In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues.
Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner
works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about.
Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the
colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to
Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with
Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on

Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular
case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to.
On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on
eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to
the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes
remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes
from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s
eyes.
Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward
and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it
very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the
characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences.
I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated
by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two
men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first
person viewpoint of

Charles, The Affordable Care Act (ACA)
Knowledge Charles, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was intended to correct the historical issues
related to cost and access in the health care system in America (Pagel, Bates, Goldmann Koller, 2017).
The ACA was an attempt by the US government to ensure access to health insurance was available for
more Americans. The historical role of the government in health care prior to the ACA had been that
the government should only have a little involvement in the delivery and reimbursement of services
with respect to having a role in policy making for the protection of the public s health (Williams
Torrens, 2008). The role of government involvement has changed through the Medicare and Medicaid
government programs. Today, these programs have the

Cuckoo s Nest Figurative Language
Throughout Ken Kesey s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, the creation of character constructs and
application of textual techniques demonstrates how the status quo is challenged. Kesey effectively
reinforces this idea through the employment of a collection of stylistic techniques. Kesey implements
diverse literary techniques to establish how the status quo is introduced, challenged, and how it
ultimately withstands the rebellion. Kesey uses figurative language to illustrate the idea of the status
quo. Kesey effectively employs the schizophrenic narration of Chief Bromden to demonstrate his
message on the blurring of reality. He utilizes the illusion and metaphor of fog to explain this idea, and
to personify protection and safety. To guard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kesey demonstrates the impact of a self sacrificing, healing influence on the ward, through the
construct of McMurphy. He becomes this Christ like figure to the patients because he makes it his
responsibility to counteract the control and oppression of Nurse Ratched. Kesey uses this symbol
through all aspects of the text. In the aftermath of his final rebellious act, McMurphy sacrifices his
own needs for the lives of others, looking dreadfully tired and strained and frantic. After his death, the
character construct of McMurphy Is still impacting and influencing the mental state of the remaining
patients. Although McMurphy sacrifices his own life for the sake of others, he successfully challenges
the status quo, and unhinges the very basis that it was founded upon:

Analysis Of Bowling For Columbine
Is it the bowling? It must be the Video games? Michael Moore s award winning documentary;
Bowling for Columbine explores the reason for the violence in America and the reason for the
Columbine High school mascara. In April 1999 two students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went on a
shooting rampage killing 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide, Moore looks at the
background in which the massacre took place and assumptions about related issues. Moore uses Bill
Nichols four modes of representation; the interactive, expository, observational and reflexive to
convey his viewpoint on gun control in America and the nature of violence in the United States of
America. Interactive mode is when the audience is able to acknowledge the ... Show more content on

By opening the movie with a picture of the NRA and a voice over it is setting a tone and conveying
Moore s strong viewpoint that the NRA are part to blame for the violence in Littleton and the
Columbine Incident, it is also indicating the NRA is going to be something of a target in the film. The
next major use of expository mode is when Moore gives us a look into American history by showing a
montage of different war and political images from 1953 2001. Typewriter font directly addresses the
viewer and gives meaning to the images. For example a picture of a dead man has little meaning, but
with the text 1965 1975: American Military kills 4 million people in Southeast Asia the viewer is able
to make sense of the footage. Another documentary technique used is the use of non diagetic music; a
song by Joey Ramone What a wonderful world adds to the mood of the scene. Ramone is singing
about a wonderful world as audiences are viewing contrasting pictures of war and killing this creates a
dramatic effect leaving the audience question Is this a wonderful world, with all this killing? This
emphasises Moores viewpoint on how American has been a society of fear for centuries. Another
effective voice over is after three and a

The Second Sutta Of The Digha Nikaya
The second sutta of the Digha Nikaya is called the Samannaphala Sutta. Contrary to appearances, the
immediate source of this title is not samana, a wanderer, but rather samañña, which refers to the state
of being a monastic (lit. conformity, generality ). According to the Access to Insight website, it also
refers to an instrument tuned on pitch (from sama, even, + anna, reciprocally ), the subject of a famous
metaphor of the Buddha. The root sam refers to calmness, tranquility, mental quiet, whereas anna also
has the meaning of knowledge, especially the knowledge of an arhant. In Sanskrit, sama has the
meaning of middling, good, and happy, whereas anya has the meaning of extraordinary. Phala means

It is sacred to Krishna, and is the holiest month of the year for Vaishnavites. The evening being fine
and clear, the king expressed the desire to visit a holy man, so his ministers listed off the well known
teachers who were still around: Purana Kassapa, Makkhali Gosala, Ajita Kesakambali, Pakudha
Kaccayana, Sanja Belatthaputta the agnostic, who we met in sutta 1, and Nigantha Nataputta, the
leader of the Jains, but the king showed no interest in visiting any of them. The royal physician
remained silent during all this time. The king asked Jivaka why he was silent. Jivaka told the king that
Gotama the Buddha was residing with his entourage in Jivaka s own mango grove, and invited the
king to meet the Buddha, to which proposal the king readily agreed. Apparently, the Buddha was the
only one of the seven that the king had not yet met. King Ajajtasattu assembled his royal household,
and he and his harem of wives, and Jivaka presumably, proceeded by elephant to the mango grove.
When the king came near to the grove, it was dark and deathly quiet, and the king suspected a trap, but
Jivaka assured him that it was safe. In the distance, he was able to see torches inside a round pavilion,
so he made his way there on foot, to find the Buddha sitting inside against the middle column of the
pavilion, with many monastics sitting, facing him, all dressed in simple ochre stained robes. The king
had to ask Jovaka which monastic was the Buddha, although the Buddha was sitting

Constructionism
When people hear the label digital natives or millennials a typical shared though by many is that they,
the young people that these labels are referring to, are good with technology usually this assumed
technological gift is equated to something ridiculous such as they are born with a cell phone in their
hands and that they will be a computer genius before they can walk. Though these outrageous
assumptions are often made in jest, there does seem to be a bit of underlying belief to them; this belief
can restrict the amount of technological skill still developing children who are, in fact, not born with
advanced knowledge of technology are able to gain. Because of this, through an observation

the central branch. The program was called Sphero Robots, and it was targeted at children ages eight
and up. The summary and description listed on the library s website explain that children will learn
basic programing of a BB 8 droid (spl.org). The program was scheduled from noon to 2 pm, and when
I arrived at 11:30 am there was already a child and parent waiting for the program to begin. The
program was a part of teen service learning which is a partnership between the library and high
schools where students receive service learning credits while learning valuable skills. There were
seven high school students who were completely in charge of creating and running the program; they
were supervised by one of the Teen Services Librarians who only stepped in when one of the teens
requested she do so. I wanted to see how the children interacted with the droids were they excited to
learn to program, or were they more excited to just play with them. I also wanted to see how the
parents and teens interacted with the children while they were in control of the droids what kind of
instruction methods they would use, how much independence they would give the children, and how
they would react to the children who were uninterested in learning to program and just wanted to play

Overview of 3GPP Lont Term Evolution
An Introduction of Overview of 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution) Long Term Evolution (LTE) is 4G
wireless communications standard radio platform technologies that allow operators to achieve higher
peak throughputs than HSPA+ in higher spectrum bandwidth. LTE was developed by the 3rd
Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and this began in 2004, with an official LTE work item started
in 2006 and a completed 3GPP Release 8 specification in March 2009. Initial deployments of LTE
began in late 2009, and it is part of the GSM evolutionary path for mobile broadband, following
EDGE, UMTS, HSPA (HSDPA and HSUPA combined) and HSPA Evolution (HSPA+). Although
HSPA and its evolution are strongly positioned to be the dominant mobile data technology for the next
decade, the 3GPP family of standards must evolve toward the future. HSPA+ will provide the stepping
stone to LTE for many operators. The overall objective for LTE is to provide an extremely high
performance radio access technology that offers full vehicular speed mobility and that can readily
coexist with HSPA and earlier networks. Because of scalable bandwidth, operators will be able to
easily migrate from their networks and users from HSPA to LTE over time. LTE assumes a full
Internet Protocol (IP) network architecture and is designed to support voice in the packet domain. It
incorporates top of the line radio techniques to achieve performance levels beyond what will be
practical with CDMA approaches, particularly in larger

Marcellin Champagnat Research Paper
Marcellin Champagnat was a remarkable person. He was born on the 20th of May 1789 and died on
the 6th of June 1840. During Marcellin s life many things changed. Marcellin had a huge impact on
the catholic church and the world by the time he died.
The year 1789 was when Marcellin Champagnat was born. At this time, the outbreak of the French
revolution occurred. During this time the official religion of the French State was Catholicism. In
1789, the French population was 28 million and almost entirely catholic. By 1794, because of the split
between the church and the state following the French revolution, the churches of France and the
religious orders were closed down and all religious worship was supressed. The following decades
were extremely difficult for the French. This was a hard time for French people as there was a lot of

work and prayer, Marcellin was ordained as a priest in 1816. Marcellin s first job as a priest was in a
remote rural community called La Valla. France by this stage had been at war almost continuously for
26 years and public education in rural areas had collapsed. This lead Marcellin into a life changing
event. One day, Marcellin visited a seventeen year old boy, Jean Baptiste Montagne, who was dying.
Jean Baptiste had never learned the most basic elements of the Christian faith and this effected
Marcellin. To Marcellin, Jean Baptiste s death at only 17

An Unlikely Friendship Between Olivier Nakache And Eric...
Mobility, as a theme, is central to the plot of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano s 2011 film Les
Intouchables . Although from different backgrounds, the two central characters are both, in their own
way, immobile. Driss, played by Omar Sy, suffers social immobility. Living in the banlieues of Paris
(an impoverished and often ignored area, the name for which has become pejorative, meaning slums
dominated by immigrants ), he has many social barriers which he must transcend. The immobility of
the aristocratic, quadriplegic and millionaire Phillipe, who lives in a large expensive house in a
wealthy part of Paris, is not social but physical. Phillipe, portrayed by François Cluzet, has to live his
life in a wheelchair due to a paragliding accident which left him paralysed many years ago. The tale of
an unlikely friendship between two men from opposite milieu which follows creates an interesting
film in which numerous boundaries, both social and physical, are seen to be transcended. This essay
will discuss how the theme of mobility is represented by directors Nakache and Toledano in Les
Intouchables , including a particular focus on the techniques used to highlight this theme throughout.
This can be seen, firstly, in the deliberate selection of the actors used to portray Driss and Phillipe in
order to highlight the theme of mobility in the film. Omar Sy, an actor of Senegalese descent, was
chosen to play the part of Driss in the true story inspiration upon which

Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity
INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of
substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast as the
enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide is added,
then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser amount of
hydrogen peroxide solution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the more the
enzyme could react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab we are using
the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen peroxide).
METHODS
The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper disks,
six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations below will be
put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker.
Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk into
the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper disk into
the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it takes for the
bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it takes for the paper
disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least 3 trials for each
hydrogen peroxide solution.

A Historiographical Discussion of the Duel Between Aaron Burr and
The duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton holds a significant relevance in
American history and should be examined within the context of early American culture and politics.
The recent historiography of the incident provides us with a complex, evolving web of conflicting
interpretations. Since the day of this tragic duel, contemporaries and historians have puzzled over why
these two prominent American statesmen confronted each other on the Plains of Weehawken. What

J. Lee and Conalee Levine Schneidman argued it was not Burr who was the instrument, but rather

the duel.3 This article entitled Suicide or Murder? The Burr Hamilton Duel, published in a 1980

Slavoj Zizek Examined Life Essay
Ecology is akin to love. Love is a concept of acceptance, love is the ability to see beyond the rights
and wrongs, and love is not meant to stand on a pedestal. Correspondingly, countless of aspects
revolve around ecology and its nature. Frequently, people chop down trees for construction and see it
as a benefit to society, but people often forget the negative impacts that society falls into once these
trees fall. Identically, there are several misconceptions about waste and trash; for instance, waste
decomposes, but trash does not. In Examined Life, the continental philosopher Slavoj Zizek further
discusses the principles of ecology and how Modern Day America conceptualize it. As an observer,
people appreciate the authenticity of the information that is conversed in a specific film, such as a
documentary. This film exhibits the rhetorical appeal of ethos because Zizek is ultimately a credible
source. As a well rounded philosopher, people can trust and confide in him. Apart from subjects about
continental philosophy, Zizek also works on matters relevant to political theory, cultural studies,
psychoanalysis, film criticism, Marxism, Hegelianism, and theology. As a professor at the New York
University, Zizek educates his students about ecology, mainly how it ... Show more content on

To appertain with his audience, Zizek used pathos to emanate his honesty about the littering of debris
and how society should feel appalled with the amount of disposal that comes from their hands. He
pivots the cameras into the locations of dumpsters to give insight into how the world is like, even
when people assume trash disappears. Although most people dispose of what they believe is garbage,
Zizek realizes that there s beauty surrounding the world, even in a smelly dumpster. For instance, in
one of the scenes, Zizek showcased his discoveries of a tape, a page of obscene art, and a mysterious

The European Union ( Eu ) And Euro
It is finally sinking in that the euro is here to stay...The Eurozone is again a club with a queue not at
the exit, but at the entrance (Van Rompuy, 2013).
On 9 July 2013, Latvia achieved the required conditions to adopt the euro. Its exemption from
participating within the single currency was abrogated with effect from 1 January 2014 (European
Commission, 2014). By joining the currency which is used on a daily basis by over 330 million
Europeans, it has been suggested that economies will be strengthened, their belonging to the
community of European states as well as national identity (Eurozone Portal, 2014). This essay will
firstly provide an overview on the history of the European Union (EU) and euro, here after a
discussion of the euro crisis and advantages and disadvantages to country s adoption of the euro for its
business and competition. Lastly, it will conclude with an evaluation of the decision to join the single
market currency.
The EU previously known as the European Community can be defined as a unique partnership
between 28 European member states operating as the world s largest single market. The union
originated in 1957 through its successor the European Economic Community (EEC) which at the time
had six members. In 2013, the market had a population of around 505 million people and accounted
for 23% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), amounting to €13.08 trillion (European
Immigration Service, 2014).

The number of vacancies being limited, the examination offers a tough competition to the aspirants
and only the candidates with thorough preparations may expect to be successful.
Scheme of Examination
The pattern of this examination is similar to the civil services examination conducted by the UPSC.
Most of the bigger States follow the practice of holding a preliminary examination to short list the
candidates. Preliminary examination is almost on the lines of preliminary examination for the civil
services examination conducted by the UPSC, with the exception that a few questions may be asked
about the custom, traditions, planning and problems of the State concerned.
The smaller States with relatively lesser number of vacancies and lesser candidates may skip the
preliminary examination. The Centre s for examination are determined by the concerned public
service commission considering the geographical area of the State and the number of candidates
taking the examination. Preliminary examination is followed by the main examination (Smaller States

Freezing Point Depression Lab
The purpose of this lab was to determine the molecular mass of a compound by measuring the
freezing point depression. Freezing point depression is one concept discussed within this experiment,
additionally, in class too. Freezing point depression is a colligative property, which refers to one that
depends on the number of particles in a given volume of solvent, rather than on the chemical nature of
the particles. Another concept applied to this experiment is the cooling curves, which for a pure
solution does not plateau when the phase change occur, rather the rate at which the temperature
decreases becomes slower. The cooling curve for the pure solvent, on the other hand, has a plateau
because there is no solute within it that affects the temperature. ... Show more content on

The, Terrorism, And International Terrorism
The infamous word of Terrorism is such a complex word when it comes to the actual definition.
Reason that is the case is that everything that happens from a shooting of innocent people to the fires
that were set to the churches in the south. Everyone around the world in different countries also has
their own definition and that is because they have faced the horror of constant terrorist attacks in the
past 20+ years. The bloodshed that happens on a daily basis is why it is known as terrorism. For one it
s conducted by an organized group of individuals who seek to spread their beliefs onto others who
have their own religion. The current definition according to the State Department website is broken
down into two parts which is domestic terrorism, and international terrorism. Both are broken down to
describe what they both mean and who the individuals that conduct such attacks are.
Internationally, the definition in countries such as in the United Kingdom is from the Parliamentary
Liaison Secretary, Michael Bartlet : [1] (1) In this Act terrorism means the use or threat of action
where: (a) the action falls within subsection (2), (b) the use or threat is designed to influence the
government or to intimidate the public or a section of the public, and (c) the use or threat is made for
the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause.

The North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement
The North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has individuals on both sides of the aisle
clamoring their opinions over the cultivation and execution of the agreement. NAFTA at 20: Overview
and Trade Effects explains that NAFTA was signed into law in 1993 by United States (U.S.) President
William J. Clinton a year following President George H.W. Bush s negotiations on the agreement
(Villarreal, Fergusson, p.1). NAFTA has pushed Mexico into the world economy for the better,
however, there have been some drawbacks relating to internal policy, and external factors such as
China being added in the World Trade Organization. This paper will review the history of NAFTA as
well as the impact on the U.S. and Mexico.
In the years prior to NAFTA Mexico saw some changes in their trade habits. NAFTA at 20: Overview
and Trade Effects explains that after 1920, Mexico s foreign trade was very restricted, but started to
become liberalized in the mid 1980s. As of 2015, Mexico has FTA s with over 44 different countries.
Mexico s big involvement in foreign trade with the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).
To gain their membership into the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Mexico had to lower their tariff rates
and other restrictions such as import licenses (Villarreal, Fergusson, p.6 7). Mexico virtually went
from having no trade with other countries to expanding to just over 20% countries in 30 years.

believe that too much money is being paid to senior technicians over the age of 45 who do the repair
work. These technicians are paid more than new employees as a result of NERDS seniority system.
The majority of these senior technicians are women. NERDS has also been advised by several of its
clients that they think NERDS female technicians do not look professional in the company uniforms
and have expressed concerned that females just cannot know as much about computer stuff as the
male technicians. NERDS executives want to fire all female technicians over the age of 45 and replace
them with male employees under the age of 25.

Webster s Dictionary definition of profit is the compensation accruing to entrepreneurs for the
assumption of risk in business enterprise as distinguished from wages or rent. Businesses run off of
risk in order to make huge amounts of money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or
services. They trust their suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their
production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that many people s lives
are put at risk. The agricultural industry, Monsanto, does a great job at creating genetically modified

One thing the farmers don t realize is that there is no diversity within the seeds that allow the seed to
develop it s own defenses or success rate. Diversity allows the strongest seed to reproduce and make
more seeds with even stronger characteristics. GMOs try to do this artificially which lead to their
downfall every time. Suppose a farmer learned this and decides not to purchase any more of these
seeds, Professor Zongo also stated that, If a farmer doesn t follow the flow and refuses to adapt the
GMOs, they are cut from fertilizers and can t sell their products. (Organic Dreams,1:00) In this case,

Discrimination against African Americans in The Invisible Man
In the 1950s African Americans were treated unfairly and discriminated against. During the post civil
war time tensions were still high, the discrimination and separation between the blacks and whites was
still prevalent. Discrimination is portrayed through Jim Crow laws, which affected every African
American tremendously, the narrator s experience at the Battle Royal, and the narrator s transition
from the black college to New York and The Brotherhood. In the Invisible Man, Ellison utilizes
characterization to represent the division between whites and blacks in America in the 1950s.

Before the fighting the white women were presented as the forbidden fruit. The Battle Royal incident
showed the white women being paraded before the black boys as something to look at, to admire, and
to desire, but not to touch (Sistrunk Krakue 1). Sistrunk Krakue describes the white women in the
novel as royalty, like prized possessions, as if this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these
women. These women are presented as dreams because the description includes admiration, desire,
but something they can t actually attain. The white women show division of social classes because
they looked around with their impersonal eyes (Ellison 19). The eyes give away the fact that the
women don t even acknowledge anyone around them, they are just doing what they re order to do by
the wealthy white men. Sistrunk Krakue s idea of dreaminess and royalty of the white women places
them on an entirely different social platform, one that would be an impossible feat for a black boy.
This judgment of the white women further explains the disrespect that blacks receive in society and
how they re judged in most every facet of life.
Within Invisible Man, judgment of races is a commonplace in society, Ellison exemplifies this point
by starting the novel with a presentation of judgment between races. The town s privileged white men
invite the narrator to give his prestigious speech at their

Similarities Between Elizabethan And Modern Education
Elizabethan and Modern Education
The Elizabethan Era, the Golden Age of English history, ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth I,
but its approach to education lingered centuries beyond that. During the Elizabethan times, education
was completely dependent upon a person s social status and gender, as well as the whims of the sitting
monarch. Although that is not the case anymore, similarities can be drawn between Elizabethan and
modern education. In fact, Elizabethan education and modern education share more similarities than
differences.
The first similarity is that there were many different levels of education. Students learned how to read
and write in English and how to do sums, in what was known as a Petty School , the most elementary
level of education ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). These were not actually schools. A Petty School
was actually the house of an educated housewife who would teach children for a small price (
Elizabethan Era England Life. ). Along with learning how to read and write in English, they also
learned catechism and lessons on behavior ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). From the ages 7 to 14,
children who were non noble went to Grammar Schools, which prepared them for university, where
courses were taught in Latin. Latin was considered the language of the educated throughout Europe,
so students were expected to become proficient in it ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ).
Between the ages of 7 and 10, they were taught by Ushers, who taught them parts of speech, verbs,
sentence structure, and how to translate English to Latin ( Elizabethan Era Daily Life: Food,
Education, Marriage, Family, Fashion. ). During this time, they were taught with the Horn Book and
the Elizabethan Alphabet. The Horn Book was considered to be the most important tool used in the
Grammar Schools. It was a piece of parchment that was normally pasted onto a wooden board with a
handle, and covered with a plate of transparent horn, which made it both durable and inexpensive. The
horn book displayed the alphabet in both small and capital letters, and the Lord s Prayer in English.
The mark of the cross was also included, so the alphabet was known as Christcross row ( Elizabethan
Education. ).

Brent Staples On Ethnicity And Gender
Like so many people, Brent Staples was judged based on ethnicity and gender. Brent Staples, an
African American man, has been mistaken for a criminal countless times because of his race. The first
time this happened, he scared a young white women when he turned the corner at night, and she ran
off, convinced that he was a mugger, a rapist, or worse. Brent shares instances of people locking their
car doors or crossing the street when he walked by, but he says he can t blame them, as young black
males are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators of... violence. He discusses his childhood
in Chester, Pennsylvania where there is gang warfare, street knifings, and murders that many of his
friends and family have gone to prison or been killed over. He mentions two extreme situations in
which he is mistaken for a burglar and tells the story of a journalist mistaken for the killer he was
reporting on. Brent Staples makes it clear that these occurrences are continuous and common, and so
he has had to make changes to accommodate for these terrified white people in public places by, for
example, whistling classic music at night. The point he is trying to make with this article is that
Caucasians have some common misconceptions about African Americans, often assuming they are all
criminals, even though Brent has clearly illustrated himself as one of the good boys.

Symbolism In My Antonia
My Antonia As time passes by, society changes but the land man lives on never does. In Willa Cather s
My Antonia, Cather describes the Nebraska landscape to convey her attitude toward each character
and to introduce and support the novels overall theme. As the novel progresses, Cather constantly
explains the theme of man s relationship with land and as the overall theme of this novel. Throughout
the course of this story, Cather s language institutes an unthought of deeper meaning to this account
and clearly identifies relationship between man and the land they live on as the main theme. Cather s
constant use of literary devices creates different perspectives to common themes throughout the novel.
Her use of imagery in this is always precise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Jim departs the region, he is always bonded to it. As I looked about me I felt that the
grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the colour
of wine stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was so much motion in
it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running. (10) Jim was always seen as a humble and
intelligent man, he never really showed any signs of anger or frustration throughout this novel. The
Nebraska landscape could be seen as a metaphor to Jim, as the land is both humble and calm; and so is
Jim. To relate to a specific part of the Nebraska landscape, Jim is seemingly symbolized by the river,
as he never wants to leave the river, but eventually does. For the first time it occurred to me that I
should be homesick for that river after I left it. (113) Cather uses this quote to explain how man must
move on from their past and look to their future, describing Jim as the river, and how the water must
continuously move. Antonia is seen as a cheerful and ecstatic girl who loves to be around people, as
she is also a reason that the landscape relates to the characters in the novel. As Antonia said, the whole
world was changed by the snow. (33) When Jim leaves for New York, Antonia changes and becomes a
different person, reflecting herself as the changes in season and how people

Memory Retention Research Paper
Research: Memory retention is essential to all human beings. It is a fundamental function of our brain:
whether it be memorizing people s names, memorizing math formulas, or memorizing the location of

memory retention skills. Many different parts of the brain control a person s memory, but the most
important part is the frontal lobe. It controls working and short term memory. Due to the processes of

The beneficial activity of walking also causes an improvement of creativity according to Dr. Oppezzo
of Stanford University. Dr. Oppezzo created a matched pair experimental design using undergraduate
student volunteers as subjects that tests the variable of walking versus sitting and inside walking
versus outside walking. he conducted 3 experiments in which she compared tests of GAU (creative
divergent thinking) and CRA (convergent thinking) using the variables of walking on a treadmill,
sitting, walking then sitting, sitting then walking, sitting twice, and outdoors walking. For her last test
she compared tests of creative analogy generation with the variables of sitting inside, walking on a
treadmill inside, walking outside, and rolling on a wheelchair outside. In all of her findings, she saw
an increase in creativity following or during the physical activity of walking. The increase in creativity
she found was also independent of location of the test, meaning that being outdoors did not help or
hinder memory retention skills when compared to results from indoors. This suggests that some
physical aspect of walking stimulates the brain s memory system. But, more research needs to be
conducted to understand the biological cause of this effect, which Dr. Oppezzo calls acute. She is
unable to provide any scientifically based answers to the results of her experiment because it is still

Argumentative Essay On Comedy
Comedy is defined as professional entertainment consisting of jokes and satirical sketches, intended to
make an audience laugh. Comedy is meant to make you laugh, whether it is a joke against the world or
the comedian is using themselves or their personal experiences to get an audience to relate to it,
making them laugh. Comedians use different techniques to connect with their audience. According to
Mel Brooks, Humor is just another defense against the universe. Many comedians such as, George
Carlin, Demetri Martin, and Christopher Titus are well known comedians that use these methods to get
a laugh from their audience, but to also make a point to their audience. Humor is a defense mechanism
that most comedians use to cope with problems they have had in their past or issues they have with the

Canada s Residential Schools On Aboriginal Children
Aboriginal children cannot forget what happened to them in the past. In 1870s, above 150 000
aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until 1970s
(CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the culture of
European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not choice even if
they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49). According to CBC News if
aboriginal children tried to breakout from schools and coming again to their families, they will send
back to their schools by Indian agents (2010, p 49). Moreover, there are negative aspects of Canada s
Residential Schools on aboriginal children, such as they beaten and physically abused if they speak
their native language, do not pay attention in class, or there is no reason (CBC News, 2010, p 50). As a
result, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) began in 2009, to gather information about
what happened to aboriginal children on Canada s Indian Residential Schools and share their stories
with all Canadians (CBC News,2010, p 46). The TRC done enough for the survivors of the aboriginal

Formerly known as the European Champions Clubs Cup (European Cup) the UCL was the result of a
measured overhaul of European football, in response to advances in technology, namely satellite
television. The challenge the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) faced was how best to
oversee this transitional phase whilst maintaining the crucial brand equity attached to the European
Cup brand name.
The report will discuss the affiliation between UEFA and marketing specialists Television Event and
Media Marketing (TEAM). The writer will show that this association was fundamental to the
emergence of the UCL and discuss the strategies developed by TEAM to ensure the competition was
seen as a credible and visible brand.
The writer will provide evidence to suggest that the shrewd branding of the UCL and the cognisant
approach taken towards the competitions life cycle have been major influences in this meteoric rise.
2. Background Information
It has been suggested that the UCL is a product of societal evolution. After forty years without change
the European Cup had become commercially obsolete to broadcasters and sponsors due to the lack of
guaranteed matches involving Europe s biggest clubs (Ahlstrom, 2002). The knockout format allowed
for clubs who would bring in large sums of revenue to be eliminated after merely two games. In 1992,

The Importance Of Magic Faraway Tree School Objective To obtain information, facts and evidence, relating to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programs and present a critical analysis; thereby enabling Magic Faraway Tree School (MFTS) to make an informed, research based decision about whether they should begin to initiate a BYOD policy in the school. Context of school MFTS is in close proximity to Enchanted Distant Shrub CBD; with significant access to wireless internet. The school is located in an affluent area; hence most students are from families with high socio economic statuses. However, the school s technology is a little outdated. While it has an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) in each classroom; there are only two small computer labs, which do not allow for 1 1 computing. The school has one class set (26) of iPads to share. To enable students development of 21st century skills and adhere to the QTM (NSW DET 2003), the school wants to extend their technology use, and aims to find out more about BYOD programs. Summaries of a report and three articles that discuss the implementation of BYOD NMC Horizon Report: 2014 K 12 Edition (Johnson et al. 2014) Within the report, beginning on page 34, is a section entitled Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Time to Adoption Horizon: One Year or Less. It explained the concept, BYOD, is not only limited to schools, but also, extensively to work environments. Relevant to teaching, it discussed BYOD s relevance for teaching, learning and creative inquiry. The vocabulary used, such as; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for... An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues. Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about. Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to. On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s eyes. Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences. I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first person viewpoint of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles, The Affordable Care Act (ACA) Knowledge Charles, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was intended to correct the historical issues related to cost and access in the health care system in America (Pagel, Bates, Goldmann Koller, 2017). The ACA was an attempt by the US government to ensure access to health insurance was available for more Americans. The historical role of the government in health care prior to the ACA had been that the government should only have a little involvement in the delivery and reimbursement of services with respect to having a role in policy making for the protection of the public s health (Williams Torrens, 2008). The role of government involvement has changed through the Medicare and Medicaid government programs. Today, these programs have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cuckoo s Nest Figurative Language Throughout Ken Kesey s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, the creation of character constructs and application of textual techniques demonstrates how the status quo is challenged. Kesey effectively reinforces this idea through the employment of a collection of stylistic techniques. Kesey implements diverse literary techniques to establish how the status quo is introduced, challenged, and how it ultimately withstands the rebellion. Kesey uses figurative language to illustrate the idea of the status quo. Kesey effectively employs the schizophrenic narration of Chief Bromden to demonstrate his message on the blurring of reality. He utilizes the illusion and metaphor of fog to explain this idea, and to personify protection and safety. To guard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He becomes this Christ like figure to the patients because he makes it his responsibility to counteract the control and oppression of Nurse Ratched. In the aftermath of his final rebellious act, McMurphy sacrifices his own needs for the lives of others, looking dreadfully tired and strained and frantic. After his death, the character construct of McMurphy Is still impacting and influencing the mental state of the remaining patients. • 6. Analysis Of Bowling For Columbine Is it the bowling? It must be the Video games? Michael Moore s award winning documentary; Bowling for Columbine explores the reason for the violence in America and the reason for the Columbine High school mascara. In April 1999 two students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went on a shooting rampage killing 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide, Moore looks at the background in which the massacre took place and assumptions about related issues. Moore uses Bill Nichols four modes of representation; the interactive, expository, observational and reflexive to convey his viewpoint on gun control in America and the nature of violence in the United States of America. Interactive mode is when the audience is able to acknowledge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By opening the movie with a picture of the NRA and a voice over it is setting a tone and conveying Moore s strong viewpoint that the NRA are part to blame for the violence in Littleton and the Columbine Incident, it is also indicating the NRA is going to be something of a target in the film. The next major use of expository mode is when Moore gives us a look into American history by showing a montage of different war and political images from 1953 2001. Typewriter font directly addresses the viewer and gives meaning to the images. For example a picture of a dead man has little meaning, but with the text 1965 1975: American Military kills 4 million people in Southeast Asia the viewer is able to make sense of the footage. Another documentary technique used is the use of non diagetic music; a song by Joey Ramone What a wonderful world adds to the mood of the scene. Ramone is singing about a wonderful world as audiences are viewing contrasting pictures of war and killing this creates a dramatic effect leaving the audience question Is this a wonderful world, with all this killing? This emphasises Moores viewpoint on how American has been a society of fear for centuries. Another effective voice over is after three and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contrary to appearances, the immediate source of this title is not samana, a wanderer, but rather samañña, which refers to the state of being a monastic (lit. conformity, generality ). According to the Access to Insight website, it also refers to an instrument tuned on pitch (from sama, even, + anna, reciprocally ), the subject of a famous metaphor of the Buddha. The root sam refers to calmness, tranquility, mental quiet, whereas anna also has the meaning of knowledge, especially the knowledge of an arhant. The royal physician remained silent during all this time. The king asked Jivaka why he was silent. Jivaka told the king that Gotama the Buddha was residing with his entourage in Jivaka s own mango grove, and invited the king to meet the Buddha, to which proposal the king readily agreed. Apparently, the Buddha was the only one of the seven that the king had not yet met. King Ajajtasattu assembled his royal household, and he and his harem of wives, and Jivaka presumably, proceeded by elephant to the mango grove. When the king came near to the grove, it was dark and deathly quiet, and the king suspected a trap, but Jivaka assured him that it was safe. In the distance, he was able to see torches inside a round pavilion, so he made his way there on foot, to find the Buddha sitting inside against the middle column of the pavilion, with many monastics sitting, facing him, all dressed in simple ochre stained robes. Though these outrageous assumptions are often made in jest, there does seem to be a bit of underlying belief to them; this belief can restrict the amount of technological skill still developing children who are, in fact, not born with advanced knowledge of technology are able to gain. The program was scheduled from noon to 2 pm, and when I arrived at 11:30 am there was already a child and parent waiting for the program to begin. The program was a part of teen service learning which is a partnership between the library and high schools where students receive service learning credits while learning valuable skills. There were seven high school students who were completely in charge of creating and running the program; they were supervised by one of the Teen Services Librarians who only stepped in when one of the teens requested she do so. I wanted to see how the children interacted with the droids were they excited to learn to program, or were they more excited to just play with them. I also wanted to see how the parents and teens interacted with the children while they were in control of the droids what kind of instruction methods they would use, how much independence they would give the children, and how they would react to the children who were uninterested in learning to program and just wanted to play ... • 9. Overview of 3GPP Lont Term Evolution An Introduction of Overview of 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution) Long Term Evolution (LTE) is 4G wireless communications standard radio platform technologies that allow operators to achieve higher peak throughputs than HSPA+ in higher spectrum bandwidth. LTE was developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and this began in 2004, with an official LTE work item started in 2006 and a completed 3GPP Release 8 specification in March 2009. Initial deployments of LTE began in late 2009, and it is part of the GSM evolutionary path for mobile broadband, following EDGE, UMTS, HSPA (HSDPA and HSUPA combined) and HSPA Evolution (HSPA+). Although HSPA and its evolution are strongly positioned to be the dominant mobile data technology for the next decade, the 3GPP family of standards must evolve toward the future. HSPA+ will provide the stepping stone to LTE for many operators. The overall objective for LTE is to provide an extremely high performance radio access technology that offers full vehicular speed mobility and that can readily coexist with HSPA and earlier networks. Because of scalable bandwidth, operators will be able to easily migrate from their networks and users from HSPA to LTE over time. LTE assumes a full Internet Protocol (IP) network architecture and is designed to support voice in the packet domain. It incorporates top of the line radio techniques to achieve performance levels beyond what will be practical with CDMA approaches, particularly in larger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. An Unlikely Friendship Between Olivier Nakache And Eric... Mobility, as a theme, is central to the plot of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano s 2011 film Les Intouchables . Although from different backgrounds, the two central characters are both, in their own way, immobile. Driss, played by Omar Sy, suffers social immobility. Living in the banlieues of Paris (an impoverished and often ignored area, the name for which has become pejorative, meaning slums dominated by immigrants ), he has many social barriers which he must transcend. The immobility of the aristocratic, quadriplegic and millionaire Phillipe, who lives in a large expensive house in a wealthy part of Paris, is not social but physical. Phillipe, portrayed by François Cluzet, has to live his life in a wheelchair due to a paragliding accident which left him paralysed many years ago. The tale of an unlikely friendship between two men from opposite milieu which follows creates an interesting film in which numerous boundaries, both social and physical, are seen to be transcended. This essay will discuss how the theme of mobility is represented by directors Nakache and Toledano in Les Intouchables , including a particular focus on the techniques used to highlight this theme throughout. This can be seen, firstly, in the deliberate selection of the actors used to portray Driss and Phillipe in order to highlight the theme of mobility in the film. • 15. Lab Report On Catalase Reactivity INTRODUCTION In this experiment, we are trying to figure out how different concentrations of substrate affect an enzyme reactivity. We are using hydrogen peroxide as the substrate and yeast as the enzyme. Based on my background knowledge, I hypothesize that if more hydrogen peroxide is added, then the seconds between a paper disk floating to the top would be lower than a lesser amount of hydrogen peroxide solution. I thought that the more peroxide solution there was, than the more the enzyme could react. An enzyme is a type of catalyst that speeds up a reaction. In this lab we are using the enzyme called catalase. Catalase is used to break down H2O2. (hydrogen peroxide). METHODS The materials you will need are forceps, a pencil, yeast solution, hydrogen peroxide, filter paper disks, six 250 ml beakers, distilled water, paper towels, and graph paper. These concentrations below will be put into each beaker. Be sure to label each beaker. Then you will put a solution of activated yeast in a beaker. Use the forceps to dip the paper disk into the beaker, which contains the catalase enzyme. Next, use the forceps to transfer the paper disk into the bottom of the beakers with hydrogen peroxide. You will then measure how long it takes for the bubbles to carry the disk to the top of the beaker. Measure the amount of seconds it takes for the paper disk to float to the top in the data table. Repeat the steps until you have at least 3 trials for each hydrogen peroxide solution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Historiographical Discussion of the Duel Between Aaron Burr and The duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton holds a significant relevance in American history and should be examined within the context of early American culture and politics. Since the day of this tragic duel, contemporaries and historians have puzzled over why these two prominent American statesmen confronted each other on the Plains of Weehawken. Love is a concept of acceptance, love is the ability to see beyond the rights and wrongs, and love is not meant to stand on a pedestal. Correspondingly, countless of aspects revolve around ecology and its nature. Frequently, people chop down trees for construction and see it as a benefit to society, but people often forget the negative impacts that society falls into once these trees fall. Identically, there are several misconceptions about waste and trash; for instance, waste decomposes, but trash does not. In Examined Life, the continental philosopher Slavoj Zizek further discusses the principles of ecology and how Modern Day America conceptualize it. As an observer, people appreciate the authenticity of the information that is conversed in a specific film, such as a documentary. This film exhibits the rhetorical appeal of ethos because Zizek is ultimately a credible source. As a well rounded philosopher, people can trust and confide in him. The Battle Royal incident showed the white women being paraded before the black boys as something to look at, to admire, and to desire, but not to touch (Sistrunk Krakue 1). Sistrunk Krakue describes the white women in the novel as royalty, like prized possessions, as if this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these women. These women are presented as dreams because the description includes admiration, desire, but something they can t actually attain. The white women show division of social classes because they looked around with their impersonal eyes (Ellison 19). • 32. Similarities Between Elizabethan And Modern Education Elizabethan and Modern Education The Elizabethan Era, the Golden Age of English history, ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth I, but its approach to education lingered centuries beyond that. During the Elizabethan times, education was completely dependent upon a person s social status and gender, as well as the whims of the sitting monarch. Although that is not the case anymore, similarities can be drawn between Elizabethan and modern education. In fact, Elizabethan education and modern education share more similarities than differences. The first similarity is that there were many different levels of education. Students learned how to read and write in English and how to do sums, in what was known as a Petty School , the most elementary level of education ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). These were not actually schools. A Petty School was actually the house of an educated housewife who would teach children for a small price ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). Along with learning how to read and write in English, they also learned catechism and lessons on behavior ( Elizabethan Era England Life. ). From the ages 7 to 14, children who were non noble went to Grammar Schools, which prepared them for university, where courses were taught in Latin. Latin was considered the language of the educated throughout Europe, so students were expected to become proficient in it ( What Every Schoolboy Knows. ). Between the ages of 7 and 10, they were taught by Ushers, who taught them parts of speech, verbs, sentence structure, and how to translate English to Latin ( Elizabethan Era Daily Life: Food, Education, Marriage, Family, Fashion. ). During this time, they were taught with the Horn Book and the Elizabethan Alphabet. The Horn Book was considered to be the most important tool used in the Grammar Schools. It was a piece of parchment that was normally pasted onto a wooden board with a handle, and covered with a plate of transparent horn, which made it both durable and inexpensive. The horn book displayed the alphabet in both small and capital letters, and the Lord s Prayer in English. The mark of the cross was also included, so the alphabet was known as Christcross row ( Elizabethan Education. ). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
