What Is The Theme Of The Story
UBuhlaluse Benkosi (The king s Buhlaluse) Proverb: Umona usuka esweni ( jealousy comes from
the eye)
Background: The story takes place somewhere in ancient kwaZulu Natal. It deals with people living
in rural kwaZulu Natal. It also has a tribal structure centred around the king. Characters: The King,
The princess, The attendants /companions, The Woodcutter, The villagers.
The story
Long time ago, there was a beautiful girl named Buhlaluse. She was the king s beloved daughter.
Her father loved her so much that he hired some maidens to be her companions / attendants, but her
companions were envious of her beauty and her life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, we should be careful of digging graves for others because in the end we might be the
ones who end up in those graves. This story is a serious warning not to get into anti social schemes.
Proverb: Umona usuka esweni (Jealousy comes from the eye / Jealousy displeasure)
Jealousy is the theme of uBuhlaluse beNkosi. In this story Buhlaluse is the victim of jealousy. She
has done nothing wrong, but finds herself in the undesirable position of not being liked by her
companions. All because her they are envious of her beauty and her royal status as a result, they try
to kill her.
Language usage: Folktales were specifially created for teaching, they display the do s and dont s
of Zulu culture. Therefore, the storyteller had to use good language as well as well chosen words
that make the story come alive and linger in the mind of listeners. Unfortunately some of those
words are lost when translating the story from Zulu to English, for example when the woodcutter
first hears Buhlaluse singing, he says Babeshane! yimihlola..... because there s no equivalent of this
expression in English, it is difficult to tell the story exactly as it was

Life After Death Analysis
A picture is worth a thousand words. Every person has heard, been told, or even read this quote.
There are those images that attract the eyes immediately with its abstract features and colors. Then
there are the pictures with deep, symbolic messages trying to persuade. However, some images are
made specifically for the purpose to promote someone or a product, and they usually use methods
that guarantee will either be controversial, or popular. For example, in the music industry, the main
purpose is to stand out. One of the music bands that always stand out are Iron Maiden. Derek Riggs,
the artist of most of the band s artwork, created the famous album artwork: Life After Death in
1985. Many people can see the relation of the dark theme album to the band s dark, heavy rock
music. Derek Rigg was inspired mainly by the main mascot of the band, which is a skeleton,
named Eddie. It is presumably rising from the death, or from its grave with the headstone reading,
Edward T H : the mascots full name. The visual analysis includes the complex forms and colors that
surround the dark theme. The colors, setting and tone are the most essential when it comes to the
final understanding of what the image wants to portray.
The main colors of the artwork Life After Death are the complimentary blue and yellow. There is
no other colors, however, the artwork looks like it is full of life and strangely, colorful. The main
background color is blue, that fades into a few shades darker as the

Compromise of 1850
At the time of the creation of the Constitution, the issue of slavery had been put off and avoided, a
decision that would later lead to the controversy now known as the American Civil War. The
composition, which was once the solution to problems that the Union was having, had the opposite
effect in the 1850s, when arguments and different interpretations of the Constitution resulted in
sectionalism, threat of secession, and tension between the North and the South. Abolitionists in the
North tried to preserve the Union while abolishing slavery, while southerners supported slavery in
the new territory and threatened to secede; the Compromise of 1850, especially the Fugitive Slave
Law, increased these beliefs. The Compromise of 1850 brought... Show more content on

This man also believed in popular sovereignty, meaning the people should choose whether or not
they want to spread it. This account contradicts Document E and Emerson s views. The government
was unable to come to a compromise so that both sides would be satisfied, hence the sectionalism.
The Constitution s lack of mentioning slavery and the misinterpretations of it made it become a
source of sectional discord rather than an instrument of national unity. President James Buchanan
was known to favor the south, which is evident in his fourth annual message to Congress in 1860,
as seen in Document G. President Buchanan deals with the fact that the states were sovereign,
therefore having the right to manage slavery in their own way. He also states that the states,
particularly the South, had the right to resist the government if all peaceful measures to restore
unity did not work. He also makes the point that Congress is by no means of the Constitution given
the power to use force against the states to prevent secession. He suggests three amendments that
elucidate the protection of slavery and that could help avoid sectionalism within the Union. Poor
political decisions contributed the fail of the Union along with the Constitution. One that would fall
under this category is the Kansas Nebraska

Cormac Mccarthy Dystopian Essay
Year 11 ATAR English Task 5
Consider how McCarthy has created his post apocalyptic dystopia. In what ways has he used
language to create the mood of the story and how has he represented the relationship between the
man and his son?
Cormac McCarthy is a well known fictional author, especially well known for his dystopian novels
and his ability to lure readers into his books through his language and his depth of writing. His
famous novel The Road entices readers in through his well constructed post apocalyptic dystopian
genre. McCarthy cleverly uses language techniques such as third person and indirect free speech.
The relationship of the man and his son unveils the true meaning of love and the willingness to fight
for the survival of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This depressing state makes the reader understand the world of darkness they live in, indicating no
light or happiness lives there. The reader also understands that something horrible must have
happened to the world they live in. Darkness is commonly associated with death which can occur
from destruction through fire, civilisation collapsing and destruction of those by other humans.
This particular darkness in the reader s opinion can be associated with post apocalyptic events.
The theme of dystopian is defined in the novel through the unpleasant new world that our future is
considered to be bound to. Other techniques that have been used in McCarthy s novel include
descriptive language. Descriptive language has been included in the text to create a clearer image
of the surrounding settings of the novel. No sound but the wind in the bare and blackened trees.
This indicates the new world the novel is set in has been under some destruction. This destruction
may have been caused possibly by a nuclear war or some horrific event. McCarthy has successively
been able to use the language feature throughout his novel, in particular synonyms and descriptive
language, to engage the reader and convince them that the genre of the novel is post apocalyptic
dystopia.
In Cormac McCarthy s novel The Road , the father and his son have a

The Night Of The Midnight Run
It was a dull Monday morning. I was sitting in religion class and looking out the window.
Suddenly, I heard my teacher say the words Midnight Run. Little did I know, this would forever
change my perspective on the way I saw the world. A Midnight Run is when many volunteers come
together and distribute goods for the homeless. We gather items such as toiletries, blankets, jackets,
gloves, hats, scarves, backpacks, and shoes that come to us in the form of donations. We make
several stops in Manhattan and distribute the items. At first I was hesitant to do it. The thought of
being in the middle of Manhattan late at night made me nervous; but my best friend begged me to
sign up with her, so I reluctantly did. As the night of the Midnight Run... Show more content on

The overall experience reminded me of a time when my cheer team and I were competing. My
team and I were feeling discouraged but my coach gave us some tips on the routines to improve.
We all worked together and valued her suggestions. That seemingly small gesture of hers came a
long way when we walked to pick up our first place prize, after anticipating we were to lose all
day. This was the first time I saw how far a little gesture, or something that seems rather
insignificant can go. Unfortunately, it got very cold throughout the night, with the temperature
dropping to below 0 degrees. I could barely stand outside all bundled up in clothes that fit me.
How did these people manage to sleep outside all night? Thoughts flooded my mind and I was in
awe of their situation at hand. By the time we arrived at the last stop, we had run out of almost
everything. People understandably took whatever they could get. A man took a bright pink,
Barbie blanket and a pink hat; he was so desperate to stay warm. I couldn t imagine myself
having to worry about these big issues. What seemed like critical issues to me in my life at the
time were miniscule compared what these people were facing. I was dealing with things such as
difficulty in school work and balancing a social life with my three jobs. I never had to worry
about being warm or where my next meal would come from. That was every day for these people.
The most touching part of the night was when I met the last woman I

Similarities Between Wilfred Owen And Siegfried Sassoon
The poet Siegfried Sassoon saw that war was destructive and it should not happen because it was
a waste of human life, Sassoon described the horror of war unsparingly, also, his poems were
often based on actual incidents. Wilfred Owen focused his poetry on the particulars of war and
the men involved: dirt, muddle, boredom etc, Owen often wrote about the horror of war and the
dignity of men. He deeply felt a sense of the appalling wastefulness of war, casualties and the
human spirit. The similarities between these two poets are they both tried to record realistic
horrors of the war; to have it stopped. They were both angry at the war s brutality, they were also
showed very compassionate studies of the circumstances of fighting men.
The connection I made between these 2 texts is that they both experienced death, these texts are
Memorial Tablet by Siegfried Sassoonand Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. In the poem
Memorial tablet, Siegfried Sassoon wrote about a man being forced to fight in the war, the man
fought for two bleeding years , but this man was shot My wound was slight, I was hobbling
back; and then a shell Burst slick upon the duckboards: so I fell Into the bottomless mud, and lost
the light. . In Dulce et Decorum Est Wilfred Owen watched a man choke to death by gas, Wilfred
Owen screamed Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! But he could hear someone screaming But someone still
was yelling out and stumbling And flound ring like a man in fire or lime... Dim, through

Rhetorical Analysis Avatar
Rhetorical Analysis Avatar (Cultural Assimilation)
In James Cameron s critically acclaimed Avatar, there are many issues/disputes that are
represented, but there is only one that especially stands out; cultural assimilation. Cameron s
purpose for this is to better represent and portray the possibility of assimilation to today s modern
audience. He adopts a visually stimulating tone to better impact and leave his viewers with a
lasting impression of his portrayal, that will better convey the feelings of transgression in the
supremacist audience he is trying to reach. This is known by the type of subject he is tackling and
by showing a similar situation, unrelated to the textbook cover of Native assimilation, but leaves
the same impact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the way it is visually astounding is only a bonus, it is perfectly executed and displayed. I feel
as if this is a masterpiece because of the way it tackles discrimination, not only from the white side
view but from the how the Native populace feels toward the invaders. It exposes the tender side of
two worlds colliding, such as trying to make peace and attempting to learn both sides of culture. The
contrast between the two worlds is shown by Jake Sully constantly moving between both worlds,
the audience is eventually more exposed to the Na vi side just as Jake Sully is. He says It feels like

Character Analysis Of Ziu Xiu, The Sent Down Girl
Xiu Xiu the sent Down Girl is from the book Tian Yu, which is written by Yan Geling and
directed by Joan Chen. The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to
start working, Xiu Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t
want to do this, but she decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a
part of the Girls Iron Cavalry. She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a
once famous horseman, now injured and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the
movie as the two are living together, they have their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a
good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry, because she hasn t received a word from
her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due
to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a family/ Father figure in her life.
This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and staying cheerful, like a child
usually is.
At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home
or anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls
Iron Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with
Lao Jin for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections
with people to find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part
of the movie, there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For
example, Lao Jin being the father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with
multiple men and yet he does what he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to
him. This part is very hard to watch, because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the
movie is no more. Things start to pick up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her
throwing up, suggesting she might be pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital
and the movie suggest she had an abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the
viewer, you know she will

Les Miserables And Les Miserabless Analysis
In Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the fall and redemption of a former
student, Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov. Raskolnikov leads a fairly ordinary life, but
makes a terrible choice which will haunt him for the rest of his life. He murders a pawnbroker
in her apartment, and his mental health consequently spirals into a dark and chilling state.
Through finding love and religion he becomes a better man, and decides to turn himself in for
his crimes. During his time spent in jail, Raskolnikov learns to achieve happiness, and strives to
have a better life after his release. Likewise, in Les Miserables, Victor Hugo uses the fictional
story of Jean Valjean and his redemption to persuade those in power to change things for the
better, using the four so long as statements, the trials of Valjean and the people of France, and the
solutions that they come upon. Victor Hugo begins Les Miserables with a series of so long as
statements that he uses in order to promote a change in France. The preface becomes one of the
most crucial parts of the book because it exemplifies exactly what Hugo wants his readers to learn
from his writings. Hugo leads his preface with questions concerning the laws and customs of
France. He then goes on to distinguish the issues that commonly haunt families, such as poverty,
starvation, and degradation. Hugo convicts France of seizing basic human rights from Its people,
and deliberately suppressing those who he calls Les Miserables. Hugo

our economy today. In the film, several principles of economics were covered. The film illustrated
the truth behind the difficult decisions common people have to make every single day. Which
included Scarcity, Choices, and Opportunity Costs, The Factors of Production, and the Supply,

the main characters. There is a scarcity of light energy when everything goes dark due to not

What does Morrie meant by the following aphorisms? One of Morrie first aphorism is Accept
what you are able to do and what you are not able to do. This aphorism means that accept
everything in life even the things you are not able to do. I can relate to this personally because
some people say i can t do something but i accept that and try my hardest to reach my goal. The
second aphorism is Learn to forgive yourself and to forgive others. This aphorism means that

Stress And Health Problems Facing People Today
Social Stress and Health Kasia Tuturice SOC 240 November 26, 2014 Professor: Dr. Jodi
Levinthal Introduction Stress can make existing problems worse. It is very important to
recognize that interaction between the human mind and body represents a critical factor in
regarding to health. Illness of any kind disrupts routines and interferes with day to day
functions, all of which stresses an individual. Stress affects the mind, body, and behavior in
many ways, and everyone experiences stress differently. Not only can overwhelming stress lead
to serious mental and physical health problems, it can also take a toll on your relationships at
home, work, and school. People stress about a lot of things such as work, finances, our health,
relationships, screaming kids, barking dogs, marriage, divorce, and so on. With so many
sources of stress, it is difficult to find time to relax. This is why, in my opinion, stress is one of
the biggest health problems facing people today. There are various stress related topics. This
paper will describe three of them. What is stress and how does our body respond to it? What
causes stress and what are the social factors of stress? How do people react to extreme situations,
such as natural disasters and to ordinary life events like losing their job? People under large
amounts of stress can become tired, sick, and unable to concentrate or think clearly. Sometimes,
they even suffer mental breakdowns. According to Cockerham, Embarrassment

A Complicated Kindness And Catcher In The Rye
A Complicated Kindness is an adolescent novel by Miriam Toews, published originally by Knopf
Canada in 2004. Inspired by her experience as a Mennonite herself, Toews crafts a story around a
teenage girl known informally as Nomi. Nomi experiences the hardships of religious oppression
only to let her familygive in first. Catcher in the Rye is, too, an adolescent novelwritten instead by
J. D. Salinger. Comparable to A Complicated Kindness, Catcher in the Rye saw some inspiration
for the story by Salinger s experience as an angsty teenager in New York. The resulting tale is of a
young man named Holden who abandons schooling and his wealthy home to find a place to belong.
These two narratives more than fifty years apart have some striking parallels about them. The
central theme in both novels is how the benefits to maturity are greatly desired by youth, but the

The second dress lies on the barn roof initially, but once returning to the barn the dress was no
longer there. This is representative of Nomi s mother and sister, who had left to avoid waiting
for death in East Village by leaving and never returning. Nomi also states how she felt when she
did not see it there, saying, I had really been hoping that it would be [there] and when I couldn t
find it I felt tired and pissed off and hot and stupid (42). Her reaction to this missing dress can be
applied to her feelings toward the disappearance of her mother and sister. She is upset with her
mother and sister leaving, but she also feels daft for not leaving herself. To conclude, the dress in
the dirt represents Nomi presently, as she is sitting in East Village and waiting to be buried. The
dress that disappeared from the roof represents what Nomi wishes to do, as she wants to leave
East Village to experience the rest of the world and do something with her life rather than wait for

Argumentative Essay On The American Nightmare
The American Nightmare It s fair to say that the United States is a postcard for success and
opportunity, but what s missing is the equal chance for every US citizen to be able to achieve
the dream. In America, we base our accomplishments on the success and failure of others around
us. We have created a society built upon status, and therefore taken the Dream and stamped an
unrealistic American image all over it. There is no doubt that there is a dream, but the reality is
that for many, it only will be a dream. The gap between wealth and poverty is growing
exponentially every year, and the struggle to achieve the dream, is becoming more and more out
of reach. According to the CPS, More than half of America s working age families with children
under age eighteen (approximately 20.1 million families) have annual incomes of $60,000 or
below and on the opposite end of this, less than 3% of families earn an income of $260,000 a
year. The benefits of being in a higher class based on economic and social status, labels the
American Dream as invalid, where only the wealthy elite can win. It would be favorable to say
that You go as far as your dreams take you , or, You get out of the system as much as you put in .
The ideology of meritocracy is the core of the American Dream; it s what makes America such an
admirable country. But reality check, this isn t the way America seems to be working. According
to PBS, the middle class average salary has dropped since 1970 (adjusted for

Cannabis Use For Teenage Years
According to Meier (2012) cannabis use in teenage years can lead to cognitive decline. Heavy
cannabis use at a younger age can lower a person s IQ and as an adult this decline is not seen.
Cannabis use can be associated or connected to many things involving cognitive function. One
relationship that can be correlated is the relationship among cannabis use and neuropsychological
impairment for teenagers. In the present paper, I will explain the role that cannabis plays on
neuropsychological testperformance. It is hypothesized that persistent cannabis use at a younger
age can be associated with neuropsychological impairments. I will explain my findings by
examining a peer reviewed article and news article that was closely related to this article and study
to support this thesis.
In the Nature News article by Leigh Phillips (2012) it discusses two specific ideas that were in
need of evaluation. First, is heavy cannabis use at an early age linked to IQ drops? Second, does
decline mostly occur with users who start as teenagers? When looking at the Dunedin
Longitudinal Study, an ongoing multi factor survey involving a cohort of 1,037 New Zealanders
followed from birth, which now has over 40 years worth of data (Phillips, 2012). Participants in
the Dunedin Study had been periodically tested for IQ and other neuropsychological indices as well
as being asked about drug taking behaviors (Phillips, 2012). By looking at the Dunedin
Longitudinal Study, we can see that frequent cannabis

The Great Moai Statues Of Easter Island
Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone
was the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No
you wouldn t because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or
what you don t want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house
to a normal office building. The Panama Canalwas one of the most useful canals ever built and
they were made to for one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone
needed to solve at that time(1900s). The great Moaistatues of Easter Island are also great structures
and are really tremendous to the eye. These buildings and canals were made to one purpose they
had to do somethings and that something was to make things easier for the people. Some
similarities they had were that they both took a long time and sacrifice to build. A differencethey
had was that they were built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles.
Predominantly, The Panama Canal was one of the greatest structures built by mankind. The Moai
as well were something to be fascinated by because they were beautiful creations made by us.
The one thing they both have in common was that they both took a long time to build. The Moai
took approximately about 10 15 years to build and that was with the help of mana which was part

Why Is Apollo 13 Wrong

went wrong. The three men, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise trained as any other

They could see the symptoms easily enough lack of power, lack of oxygen but had no clue about
the underlying disease that had befallen their ship (Bizony). Unfortunately the men only had a
small triangular window to look out onto the ship. When one of the astronauts finally saw a
large clue Lovell called in that he had seen a gas blowing into space. The substance coming out
happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the
Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the
mistake was made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them
happened to be dropped, but the tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out.
Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how
they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular tank was
tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as
desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas
into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to

flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use these heaters
to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC power. The
thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this
led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to
weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank.

Differences Between The COBOL Programming Language Vs. PHP...
There are many differences that we can find between the COBOL programming language and PHP
language. Both had different upbringing, different purpose to serve, different features, and different
strengths and weaknesses. Also, it is interesting to note that one is a legacy language while one is
much more modern, which we will explore these influences on how time and expectation of modern
society could have affected the latter language. In 1959, a programming languagewas developed by
CODASYL(Conference/Committee on Data Systems Languages), in an effort to create a standard
for data processing to use across all computers. It was heavily influenced by the work of Grace
Hopper, an advocate of machine independent programming languages. Its name was COBOLand it
stood for Common Business Oriented Language, the sole language for business applications.
Nowadays, some of the compilers available for COBOL are IBM COBOL, GnuCOBOL,
NetCOBOL, VisualCOBOL, and MCP. Also, some of the IDEs available for COBOL are
Eclipse, CANDE, OCIDE, and HackEdit. CODASYL was looking to create a common business
language to use across all industries, with support from the US Department of Defense, who was
also interested in obtaining such a language. The only mainstream language at the time of COBOL
s conception was FORTRAN, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
Ireland in 1729 was a dark and horrific time period for all civilians. Extreme poverty surrounded the
country along with overpopulation. Satirist, Jonathan Swift was sincere with his proposal, and
continued to approach the problem with creating a solution he thought seemed fit. To begin, he
recognized the concern of poverty, the future of young children, and accomplished his proposal on
how to decrease the population, backing up his idea with statistics and reason. As Swift saw the
melancholy everyday while walking the streets, The amount of poverty in Irelandwere at their worst.
The streets, crowded with female beggars, followed by five or six children, all in rags, and
importuning every passenger for an alms (P1). Due to the children burdening their mothers, this
restricted the parents to find an honest living, forcing them into this lifestyle. Using statistics to
explain further how serious this problem was. To acquire this information, Swift did a census to
calculate the population, which proceeded to research more saying there was thirty thousand
couples that can maintain their children, but only one hundred and twenty thousand children of
poor parents annually born, not including the other mothers that miscarry or the... Show more

Revolving Door Law Case Summary
In the given situation, EDA has contracted WEA during the design phase of the expansion of
these transportation facilities. WEA was the general contractor and decided to hire R F as a
subcontractor for specific duties during the design phase. The issue begins in the construction
phase, if EDA were to contract Savmor. Unlike other bidders, Savmore would hire R F as a sub
consultant. This was seen as unfair to other bidders for the project because R F was already a sub
consultant during the design phase. This may cause a conflict of interest. Given this text, we
believe R F should not be precluded from working for Savmore or any other contractors. However,
this can only be the case under certain conditions. One condition that is required for... Show more

Ultimately, the motivation behind the Revolving Door Law and similar laws is to prevent a
company from receiving compensation twice for the same work. So, it is important to
determine, whenever a company contributes work, what matters the company participated in by
doing said work. Deciding that a company s work constitutes participation in one matter does
not necessarily mean that that same work does not constitute participation in a different matter.
Participating in one matter could also constitute participation in another matter if the company s
work in the first matter is heavily used in the second matter: for instance if the second matter
involved assessing or analyzing the work of the first matter. This is portrayed in the Texas
Ethics Commission Advisory Opinion 523. According to Texas s Ethics Commission, they do
not prohibit a former employee of the Texas Department of Transportation from performing
services related to a bridge replacement project...unless the services would include a review or
analysis of a matter in which the former employee participated as an employee of the agency (1).
As long as the work has no ties and similarities to the earlier work, R F should be allowed to work
according to the TEC. Since R F is not even the primary contractor, as they are serving as a
subcontractor for Savmore, there should be even more lenience applicable to their

A Comparison Of Sirens And The Little Mermaid
Sirens and The Little Mermaid
There is a universal ideology that suggests that each gender plays their specific, individualized
roles in society: men acting as independent, powerful alpha males, and women being their dutiful
submissives. Contemporary narratives depict women as such whereas mythology is rich with
goddesses and other female figures who are brave and powerful warriors equal to men. So if
mythology can be overflowed with stories about female leaders, how come contemporary
narratives have derived from that viewpoint? Sirens in Greek Mythology are a perfect example of
the derivation to the new idea of women in society: weak. By examining the myth of Sirens through
a feminist critical lens, the question of whether society is concerned with the ways in which
literature and other cultural productions reinforce or undermine the economic, political, social, and
psychological oppression (Brizee Web) will be answered. The mythological legend of the Sirens
highlights the superiority of these figures who could destroy by temptation through their melodic
voices; modern interpretations of sirens as in Disney s The Little Mermaid (1989) reduce the
feminine power of the siren to a contemporary stereotype of the powerless, dependent, subservient
woman.
Sirens in mythology are defined as beautiful, destructive creatures either half woman, half bird or
half woman, half fish that obtain power by luring sailors to their deaths, causing their ships to crash
on the reefs near

Implementing A Dramatic Reading Program
Executive Summary:
The following proposal outlines our plan to implement a Dramatic Reading Program to challenge
the war on illiteracy in our local community. This program would be implemented to sustain and
environment of learning that intentionally support, enhance, and sustain the practices of reading and
include several ways of learning. An effective reading program develops reading competence in all
students and is based on proven practices. Three components are critical to the design,
implementation and sustainability of powerful reading instruction: professional development that
equips educators with a solid knowledge base; instructional tools and a school system that supports
the implementation of the program.
The introduction of the Dramatic Reading Program will serve to signify the church s commitment
to intellectual engagement and strong academic culture in our community. It will target ages 7 to
12 which research has proven is that most vulnerable age of children and the age where the
challenge with reading should come to awareness. Research shows that 2/3 of students who
cannot read proficiently by the end of the 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare. With this the
discovery of this research this level of education is our target. Over 70% of Americans inmates
cannot read above the 4th grade level. This program will implement reading strategies that will
challenge students and enhance their reading level two or three grade levels.

The Decision Of The Budgeting Process
The budgeting process is an approach that needs to be carefully selected, managed, applied and
controlled. As the CEO of the company my mission is ensure the right business practices are
applied to generate better outcomes to our organization. Our current budgeting process is a popular
approach used at many local, sate, or national governmental agencies, and nonprofit organization,
which consist on spending at the end of the budgetcycle the amount that was not used. Managers
tend to do it, as they often feel that if they don t spend such amount during that specific period,
next year their budget will be reduced by the same dollar amount. This obviously could make
managers to spend money unnecessary and manage resources in ways that can harm the company.
The purpose of this memo is explain budget managers the reason why is not convenient to utilize
the use it or lose it approach as budgeting process due to its harmful effects and at the same time it
will provide an alternative solution for our current system. According to Horngren, C. T (2014),
Budgeting can cover such diverse issues as how much time to spend inspecting a product and how
much money the company will allot to research and development in the coming year (p. 271). It is
more than clear that all organizations needs from budgetsto manage their resources in a way that
can produce as much as possible, however is important to keep a good quality and reward our

Challenges of the Automobile Industry of USA Essay
As we all know, automobile industry plays an important part in the economy of USA; however, this
industry is facing some environmental challenges. In this assignment, I would like to discuss about
the challenges that the automobile industry of USA is struggling with. Specifically, there are four
main challenges that will be looked into details which are global competition, new technology,
emission s effect on the environment and the government s reaction, and the consumers opinion
about the products.
Firstly, the automobile industry of USA is facing an intense global competition. Beside some
American brands of automobiles such as Ford, General Motors (GM), there are other foreign
brands which are proving their positions in the automobile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As we can see, the automobile industry of USA is affected by the economic depression in 2009,
and there are more competitors trying to compete in the automobile industry.
Secondly, what is the role of new technology in empowering the automobile products? It is the
fact that USA is one of the countries having the best technology which is always updated for
new innovation. Nowadays, the means of shopping is not just going to the stores, looking at the
catalogues and talking to the dealers. Everything now can be done just by a click. All the big
automobile companies have their own official websites where customers can get the information
about the newest trends with all the detailed information. By this way, it can save customers a
great deal of time and they have more selection over a wide range of products. That is the reason
why there are more and more customers turning to online shopping. According to a survey done
by J.D. Power and Associates (2002), there were 60% to 80% of customers went to the company
website to search for information before going to the store and take the test drive. Another good
point about the Internet is that new customers can look for the review from those who already
purchased the products to see if that product is worth its cost, as stated in the same survey there is
60% of the buyers refer to the internet before making their purchase (J.D. Power and Associates,

How Does Iron Affect The Body
The mineral iron (Fe) is a crucial substance for the human body. Many parts of the body,
including red blood cells, require iron in order for the body to function normally. Only specific
amounts of iron are absorbed by the body to maintain homeostasis. However, iron is a very toxic
mineral so if there is too much ironstored in the body, it can lead to serious consequences. People
that suffer from haemochromatosis, a hereditary iron disorder, are unable to regulate the amount
of iron absorbed from their diet. Almost all iron in the intestine is absorbed into the blood stream
and because the human body has no major way to rid of excess iron, it is stored in organs and
joints of the body where it can cause serious harm. Typically, the body stores one gram or less of
iron but people with haemochromatosis can have up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iron homeostasis is controlled though a negative feedback loop that involves hormones, including
Hepcidin, which are released to control the absorption of iron. With haemochromatosis, the
production of these hormones is affected. Over time, the build up of iron has a serious effect on
cells in the body which can lead to other fatal diseases or even premature death.
It is vital that the body contains a stable amount of iron. This level of iron is regulated through
iron homeostasis. On average, people take in 10 to 20 mg of iron a day but only absorb 10%.
Usually around 1mg of iron is also lost each day meaning the gain of iron equals the loss. This
maintains iron in the body at a stable level. Iron and many other minerals are absorbed through
enterocytes, absorbing cells that make up the small intestine. These cells are the regulators for
how much iron is moved into the blood stream meaning they only move it if the body sees a need
for it. When iron is taken in through food it travels through the digestive system down to the small
intestine in the form of Fe3+ (from plant matter) or Fe2+ (from meat). If it is the form 3+ then it is
turned into the

This is similar to what happened to Krebs in Hemingway s Soldier s Home . Krebs has returned
home to find that it is not that everybody and the world around him has changed, but he was the
one that had changed. He has fought in some of the worst wars there were and he didn t want to
come back home. Krebs dreaded coming back to the states, and would have preferred to stay
overseas. Krebs was once used to a normal life. He went to a Christian school and was a part of a
fraternity. His perception on life had changed drastically after enlisting in the military and
fighting in a war. When he returned home, the girls that he saw on the street were the same as
when he was there years ago. His father still parks his car in the same spot day in and day out.
His mother tries to encourage him to get a job, but he doesn t care. He was so accustomed to the
repetition of a soldier s life. He couldn t adjust to the typical lifestyle that other soldiers made.
Somehow you can see the struggle he is going through. After the physical war, there was a war
going on internally. Krebs had lost his emotion and will to care. The horror he experienced actually
seeing first hand life and death situations were incomprehensible to his parents. There was no way
they would be able to identify with him.
It doesn t matter where anyone played a role in a war; the nature of the war itself leaves a
tremendous impact on everyone s life. Just retelling a story

developing in all of the fields, and in less than 15 years this development became faster. In
medicine robots are manly used in surgeries for its many advantages, but it differs from the other
fields that until now robots did not take the doctors place, so robotics in medicine are used to
just help in the surgeries. In this assay i am going to write about robots in medicine, to see if
they are helpful in medicine or not by comparing their advantages to their disadvantages, and by
looking at the fields that they are already using robots, and finally I will list some examples and
focus on two to know more about how it works. Medical application the most importing and
spread application is in robotic surgeries, it is a method so doctors can do small and precise
surgeries that are hard to be done by them, or even impossible. Using small tools attached and

obvious benefit is for the surgical application, small scars by decreasing the incision to decrease
the blood loss and no transfusion needed specially for patients that have blood issues, small
incisions also needed in surgeries in areas like brain and spinal cords. The second advantage is the
robots precision that is needed for the sensitive operations. Length of hospital stay will be less also
because of the fast recovery and because of using the diagnosis applications that checks the patient

Honey Bees Pollinates Bees
Save the Bees
Bees are profound contributers to the ecosystem, but their population size is decreasing
tremendously. Without them, key factors to everyday life will be negatively affected. The honey
bees pollinates flowers. Pollination is when pollen is transferred to a flower s reproductive organs
and enables it to fertilize. When fruits and vegetables are growing, they start of as small flowers
on the plant, eventually becoming whatever food they are. Pollination is how the flowers are able
to grow into the fruit or vegetable. The natural, and best way, a plant gets pollinated is through bees.
Admittedly, some may argue that honey bees are not a necessity because there are alternate
ways to pollinate crops. For example, other insects such as butterflies, beetles, flies, and wasps
are able to pollinate (Gordon). Looking at this point of view, it may seem that bees would not be
necessary for pollination. Bees are not the only pollinating animal, so there should be no need to
protect them. These insects do not pollinate the same way as bees, so how do they do it? Active
insects get covered in pollen when visiting flowers, which then rubs off onto the next flower visited
(Gordon). Bees do essentially the same thing, except they do it purposely, making it the process
more effective. In summation, because there are other insects that have the ability to pollinate,
opposers of saving the honey bees think that it is unnecessary to aid them in survival. Bees however,

Shakespeare Sonnet 130 Tone
Everyone in the world, in one way or another, experiences love; However, the source of it is
unknown. In Sonnet 130 the author, William Shakespeare introduces a speaker who is in love with
a woman he refers to as his mistress. The speaker expresses his love for her through a sonnet, but
unlike other authors of his time, Shakespeare writes his sonnetin a more unique and humorous way.
Shakespeare s excess use of negative similes and a mysterious tone change help convey the
meaning of love on a deeper, more intimate level by showing that looks are not as important as one
s inner beauty. Shakespeare compares his mistress to several beautiful things, but the comparison is

Project And Urban Planning At The University Of California
The concern here addresses three major jargons, share businesses , urban areas , and lastly wicked
problems . The phenomena Shared business refers to the concept of collaborative consumption
where the economic arrangement facilitates the participants to accesses the product or the service
rather than an individual ownership, enabled by technologies and peer communities. A sub
phenomena to this can be shared services , where funding and resourcing of the serviceis shared and
the providing department effectively becomes an internal service provider. On the contrary the other
jargon urban areas refers to areas with high population density and vast human built features
compare to the areas astounding it and the last jargon wicked problems , according to Horst W.J.
Rittel and Melvin M. Webber, professors of design and urban planning at the University of
California at Berkeley, it refers to the problem conventional method fail to resolve while they may

In recent years, the concept of sharing has moved from a community practice into a profitable
business model. This increasing legitimacy is reflected in the more polished terms used to describe
the phenomenon like peer to peer (P2P) networks, collaborative consumption or the access
economy. This has augmented the number of stakeholders, as integrating different parties and

As a public discourse, popular narrative engages with social issues expressing a collective critique
encouraging or discouraging social conformity. As Drezner states, pop culture can have an
informing effect of calling attention to and framing a particular problem. Popular culture can also
have an enabling effect of providing shorthand references that trigger awareness of a problem
(Drezner 831). Beneath the horror and thematic thrill of the zombie film franchise, the zombie as a

LDR couples, there are means and ways couples can share intimacy, intimacy that is scarce in a

Some positives of LDRs is that it enables partners to appreciate each other more, and they don t

personal growth. Since one have so much free time one can pursue any other dreams or goals that

Rhetorical Analysis on ADHD in Children
The main topic of this page is information and statistics pertaining to children that possess the
disorder of ADHD. It provided several statistics amongst the boys and girls that have ADHD. It
also provided percentages and rates of how many children are diagnosed with the disorder. It
revealed that statistically proven boys are more likely to become diagnosed with the disorder than
females are. This site also provided statisticsad ratings of the different treatments that children are
taking and how many American children received treatment for the disorder in 2011. There was
also a percentage representing the children that may have been diagnosed with the disorder but
are not receiving any type of treatment for it. There are also facts supporting that parents that
may have been diagnosed with the disorder are more likely to reproduce children that suffer from
the same disorder opposed to parents who have not been diagnosed or exhibited any behaviors or
symptoms of ADHD. It is also quoted that children that have been diagnosed with the disorder may
form a issue with maintaining any relationships or friendships amongst their peers. There was also
a percentage that supported the fact that the children that suffer from the disorder of ADHD have a
higher rate or major injuries and hospital visits compared to the average child. There is also a high
economic cost to care and treat children that suffer from this disorder.
I believe the audience for this site is for any of the

Analysis Of Culpepper And Koester s Writing I ve Learned...
Reflection Paper
In Culpepper and Koester s writing I ve learned a great deal about the Gospel of John from all
perspectives. I ve learned everything from what makes John unique, the Gospel of John as
literature, and some theological insight on the Gospel of John. In this particular paper though I
want to focus on three key questions asked and deliver well thought out ideas and answers. Also
in this paper the reader will learn what the similarities and differences John has from the Synoptic
Gospels, what difference would it make to Christian belief today if the Gospel of John was never
written, and what my favorite gospel is and why?
First the question is asked, How is John similar to and different from the synoptic gospels? Is there
evidence that John is aware of the existence of the synoptic gospels ? First we have to understand
that although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is
largely independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the
synoptic Gospels have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a
group of disciples, he taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the
scene of feeding the five thousand. Now John is different from the other gospels in a few different
ways. The first way John is different from the others is the journeys talked about throughout the
gospels, for instance only Matthew and Luke contains accounts of Jesus

Unit 5 Assignment 1 AD Design Scenario
Flexible single master operation (FSMO) Roles should be assigned to ensure the best recoverability
and operation of your Domain Controllers.
Some of the questions that should be asked when you are determining the FSMO roles and the
Global Catalogue (GC) placement are:
1. How many Domain Controllers are in your environment? If there is only one DC in your
environment (Not recommended) then all the roles will be on the same server and I would
recommend that there should be no more than 20 users. If you have more than 20 users you
should have at least two DCs. Two domain controllers are recommended for environments of up to
200 users. It is important to not have the Domain Naming Master on the same server as the RID
Master or the PDC Master, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The schema master domain controller controls all updates and modifications to the schema. To
update the schema of a forest, you must have access to the schema master. The domain controller
holding the domain naming master role controls the addition or removal of domains in the forest.
Domain wide operations master roles
Every domain in the forest must have the following roles, relative ID (RID) master, primary domain
controller (PDC) emulator master, and Infrastructure master
These roles must be unique in each domain which means that each domain in the forest can have
only one RID master, PDC emulator master, and infrastructure master.
The RID master allocates sequences of relative IDs (RIDs) to each of the various domain
controllers in its domain. At any time, there can be only one domain controller acting as the RID
master in each domain in the forest.
Whenever a domain controller creates a user, group, or computer object, it assigns the object a
unique security ID (SID). The SID consists of a domain SID, which is the same for all SIDs
created in the domain, and a RID, which is unique for each SID created in the domain.
To move an object between domains (using Movetree.exe), you must initiate the move on the
domain controller acting as the RID master of the domain that currently contains the object.
The PDC emulator master processes password changes from client computers and replicates these
updates to all domain

Post-Op Hunger
Post Op Hunger: What to Eat After Dental Surgery
Have you ever undergone oral surgery? Usually, those who have dental procedures done can t eat
solid food for a couple of days, sometimes even lasting for weeks because of the pain.
There are many options you can go for if we re just talking about soft food and liquids in general,
but be wary of what they contain. Some may come in those forms, but they may worsen your
condition or even infect your supposedly healing wound. Gentle Dentist, a family dentistry clinic
based in Indianapolis, shares a list of food that won t worsen the pain and will help you recover
faster.

So, consider food items such as room temperature scrambled eggs, chicken, beef, fish, and nut butter
like almond and peanut. Consider the spices put into the food and the consistency, depending on
how much a person can take.
Liquids
In some cases, you won t even be able to chew and swallow properly because of the swelling and
the pain. For this, you can turn to fluids to help you get better. The number one choice is water, as
it washes away particles and sugars that may lead to tooth decay. It also keeps the mouth moist and
the throat hydrated.
Other choices are 100 percent fruit or vegetable juices to provide you with the right amount of
calories and nutrients. Green tea also helps improve dental health.
Avoid sodas and caffeine because the sugar may worsen your condition and cause tooth erosion.
Dairy
These are rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as known for being high in calcium. But, while
there are a variety of milk and milk byproducts available in the market, there are specific products
appropriate for dental surgery patients. Skim milk, cottage cheese, and unsweetened and low fat
yogurts work best to reduce healing time.
Hope this alleviates the frustration of not being able to eat solids. Who knows? Eating these might
turn into a habit, further improving your dental

Avoid Processed Foods
1. Avoid processed foods. If you do nothing else to change your diet, this healthy eating tip is the
most important if you want to eat healthier. Processed foods are packed with unhealthy ingredients
like hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, refined flour and excessive amounts of sodium
that contribute to weight gain and chronic diseases.
2. Eat moderate portions. Serving sizes have gotten huge in recent years to the point where you
can get all your calories for one day in a single meal. Plates and cups are much larger, resulting in
what s called portion distortion You think you re eatingthe same amount you always have, but it is
actually another 50 to 150 calories per meal you are taking in, which can result in major weight
gain. Don t ever supersize anything you order.
3. Eat more slowly. Taking the time to savor a meal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Get a little exercise every day. The more exercise you get, the better these healthy eating tips will
work, and the more great food you can eat and remain healthy. You don t necessarily have to join
a gym, just be more active in your daily activities. For instance, take the stairs instead of the
elevator, park at the farthest end of the parking lot, walk or bike to work, or go dancing.
5. Eat organic as much as possible. Eat as many organic foods as your budget will allow. The most
important organic foods to eat are meat and chicken, as conventionally raised meat usually contains
hormones and antibiotics that you don t want in your body. And certain fruits and vegetables are
worse than others in terms of how much pesticide residue they carry, such as celery and apples,
which you should try to buy organic.
6. Eat a wide variety of colorful, fresh foods. This is one of the best healthy eating habits to
adopt. The wider the variety of foods and rainbow of colors you eat, the more likely it is you will
get all the nutrients you need. And by trying different foods you may not have tried before you can
make meals more

Watching the Solution to the Jewish Question from Afar
If you lived in the time of the Holocaust and you were a non Jewish person, would you want to
take the chance of fighting back and having the consequences of your actions affect the lives of
your family? Or would you just go with the flow and stand back as the Jewish people were
punished? This is a question that people in this time had to ask themselves. Some decided to take
the chance and fight back, but many did not. Most people, who had families to think about, chose
to stand back from what was happening. Honestly, the non Jewish people who chose to stand back
had every right to make this decision for themselves and their families.
Although the decision that was made by these people can be explained, some may not see it that
way. Some may see it that the people who chose to stand back were simply being weak or that
they were immoral. They could ve fought back if they wanted to, but they chose otherwise. They
chose what could be looked at as the, easy way out . Another side to this could be that not
everyone had a family to think about, and those who did have a family could have acted in a way
that didn t get them involved. They should ve thought that maybe if they spoke out then other
people would be more willing to stand up for what was right. If the thought that one person can t
make a change crossed their mind then they should ve tried to get more people together to fight
back; they should ve tried to take a stand. Even though this is all true, the non Jewish people

Essay On Thurgood Marshall
Throughout history, there has been discrimination against race, religion, gender, orientation, age,
among many other things. From the British preventing the colonists rights to the separate but equal
doctrine people used to justify discrimination against African Americans, America has had its fair
share of it. After years of the mockery of equality that African Americans had, change was needed.
Out of the thousands of voices who brought the winds of change, that were heard the most were:
Martin Luther King Jr., for convincing people to join their cause; Thurgood Marshall, who used the
law to get people to listen to their voices; and the Silent Majority, for without them, freedom would
never truly ring from every mountainside.
While King was the spokesperson, the Silent Majority were the people who really pushed for civil
rights. They were the ones who did the sit ins, boycotts, strikes, and protests. While the

legal way to get them out of the school was to close it. While working for the NAACP, he also

Ferdinand Margaret Quotes
The theme of witchcraft is engrained in the character of Margret and the play, as it becomes a
tool for revenge and revelation. Having suffered the loss of her husband, her son, and her
kingdom, Margret is a woman banished on pain of death (1.3.166). Nevertheless, Margret s pain
is not limited to grieving. Bitter and passionate she returns to England seeking justice. Margret
angrily declares to Richard III: A husband and a son thou ow st to me, / And thou a kingdom; all
of you alliance. / This sorrow that I have by right is yours, / And all the pleasures you usurp are
mine (1.3.169 174). In this line, Margret expresses her desire for retribution for her bereavement
caused by Richard III and other Yorkist royals like Queen Elizabeth. However, as she no longer
holds social power, she is only capable of pronouncing curses to the gods. Margret exclaims, Did
York s dread curse prevail so much with heaven/... Can curses pierce the clouds and enter heaven?
/ Why then give way, dull clouds, to my quick curses! (1.3.190 195) Margret invokes the justice of
God through her curses to gain revenge by punish the crimes of her enemies. Interestingly, through
her mention of the Duke of York s curse Margret manages to link her curses to those used in the
past to make her suffer. Thus, Margret s curses are not loose threads... Show more content on

My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the
type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express
myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more
skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people
tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I
want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my
mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong
writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure
when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder
is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to
be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The
irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft
contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my
bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and
proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to
find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism

Budget Definition
Not counting savings, I was able to come in under budget by $11.03. It was really difficult to
create a budget on such a low monthly income. The first thing I did was to locate an apartment.
The upper range I had in mind for my apartment was $400, and the cheapest one I could find was
$399 per month. It was also very difficult trying to determine whether I wanted to drive a car.
Since the expenses for car insurance and gas would be really high, I decided to not use a car.
Fortunately, I got a job as a cashier at a nearby Walmart. Thus, I could just walk to work. In
addition, I found it difficult to find a relatively inexpensive after schoolactivity for the kids until I
got off work. The budget for groceries was also a tough amount to determine. Even if I use
coupons, it would be difficult for my family to stay within the budget every month for groceries.
Overall, I budgeted the bare minimum to my wants so that I could set aside money to my family s
needs. In order to meet all the expenses and live comfortably this family would need to be in the
middle class.
I would completely disagree with them. Even if a poor person works 40 hours a week, it is still
really difficult to get by every month, especially with family members to support. Many people ...

This story is a serious warning not to get into anti social schemes. Proverb: Umona usuka esweni (Jealousy comes from the eye / Jealousy displeasure) Jealousy is the theme of uBuhlaluse beNkosi. In this story Buhlaluse is the victim of jealousy. She has done nothing wrong, but finds herself in the undesirable position of not being liked by her companions. All because her they are envious of her beauty and her royal status as a result, they try to kill her. Language usage: Folktales were specifially created for teaching, they display the do s and dont s of Zulu culture. Therefore, the storyteller had to use good language as well as well chosen words that make the story come alive and linger in the mind of listeners. Unfortunately some of those words are lost when translating the story from Zulu to English, for example when the woodcutter first hears Buhlaluse singing, he says Babeshane! yimihlola..... because there s no equivalent of this expression in English, it is difficult to tell the story exactly as it was ... • 4. Life After Death Analysis A picture is worth a thousand words. Every person has heard, been told, or even read this quote. There are those images that attract the eyes immediately with its abstract features and colors. Then there are the pictures with deep, symbolic messages trying to persuade. However, some images are made specifically for the purpose to promote someone or a product, and they usually use methods that guarantee will either be controversial, or popular. For example, in the music industry, the main purpose is to stand out. One of the music bands that always stand out are Iron Maiden. Derek Riggs, the artist of most of the band s artwork, created the famous album artwork: Life After Death in 1985. Many people can see the relation of the dark theme album to the band s dark, heavy rock music. Derek Rigg was inspired mainly by the main mascot of the band, which is a skeleton, named Eddie. It is presumably rising from the death, or from its grave with the headstone reading, Edward T H : the mascots full name. The visual analysis includes the complex forms and colors that surround the dark theme. The colors, setting and tone are the most essential when it comes to the final understanding of what the image wants to portray. The main colors of the artwork Life After Death are the complimentary blue and yellow. There is no other colors, however, the artwork looks like it is full of life and strangely, colorful. The main background color is blue, that fades into a few shades darker as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compromise of 1850 At the time of the creation of the Constitution, the issue of slavery had been put off and avoided, a decision that would later lead to the controversy now known as the American Civil War. The composition, which was once the solution to problems that the Union was having, had the opposite effect in the 1850s, when arguments and different interpretations of the Constitution resulted in sectionalism, threat of secession, and tension between the North and the South. Abolitionists in the North tried to preserve the Union while abolishing slavery, while southerners supported slavery in the new territory and threatened to secede; the Compromise of 1850, especially the Fugitive Slave Law, increased these beliefs. The Compromise of 1850 brought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This man also believed in popular sovereignty, meaning the people should choose whether or not they want to spread it. This account contradicts Document E and Emerson s views. The government was unable to come to a compromise so that both sides would be satisfied, hence the sectionalism. The Constitution s lack of mentioning slavery and the misinterpretations of it made it become a source of sectional discord rather than an instrument of national unity. President James Buchanan was known to favor the south, which is evident in his fourth annual message to Congress in 1860, as seen in Document G. President Buchanan deals with the fact that the states were sovereign, therefore having the right to manage slavery in their own way. He also states that the states, particularly the South, had the right to resist the government if all peaceful measures to restore unity did not work. He also makes the point that Congress is by no means of the Constitution given the power to use force against the states to prevent secession. He suggests three amendments that elucidate the protection of slavery and that could help avoid sectionalism within the Union. Poor political decisions contributed the fail of the Union along with the Constitution. One that would fall under this category is the Kansas Nebraska ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In what ways has he used language to create the mood of the story and how has he represented the relationship between the man and his son? Cormac McCarthy is a well known fictional author, especially well known for his dystopian novels and his ability to lure readers into his books through his language and his depth of writing. His famous novel The Road entices readers in through his well constructed post apocalyptic dystopian genre. McCarthy cleverly uses language techniques such as third person and indirect free speech. The relationship of the man and his son unveils the true meaning of love and the willingness to fight for the survival of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This depressing state makes the reader understand the world of darkness they live in, indicating no light or happiness lives there. The reader also understands that something horrible must have happened to the world they live in. Darkness is commonly associated with death which can occur from destruction through fire, civilisation collapsing and destruction of those by other humans. This particular darkness in the reader s opinion can be associated with post apocalyptic events. The theme of dystopian is defined in the novel through the unpleasant new world that our future is considered to be bound to. Other techniques that have been used in McCarthy s novel include descriptive language. Descriptive language has been included in the text to create a clearer image of the surrounding settings of the novel. No sound but the wind in the bare and blackened trees. This indicates the new world the novel is set in has been under some destruction. This destruction may have been caused possibly by a nuclear war or some horrific event. McCarthy has successively been able to use the language feature throughout his novel, in particular synonyms and descriptive language, to engage the reader and convince them that the genre of the novel is post apocalyptic dystopia. • 7. The Night Of The Midnight Run It was a dull Monday morning. I was sitting in religion class and looking out the window. Suddenly, I heard my teacher say the words Midnight Run. Little did I know, this would forever change my perspective on the way I saw the world. A Midnight Run is when many volunteers come together and distribute goods for the homeless. We gather items such as toiletries, blankets, jackets, gloves, hats, scarves, backpacks, and shoes that come to us in the form of donations. We make several stops in Manhattan and distribute the items. At first I was hesitant to do it. The thought of being in the middle of Manhattan late at night made me nervous; but my best friend begged me to sign up with her, so I reluctantly did. As the night of the Midnight Run... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall experience reminded me of a time when my cheer team and I were competing. My team and I were feeling discouraged but my coach gave us some tips on the routines to improve. We all worked together and valued her suggestions. That seemingly small gesture of hers came a long way when we walked to pick up our first place prize, after anticipating we were to lose all day. This was the first time I saw how far a little gesture, or something that seems rather insignificant can go. Unfortunately, it got very cold throughout the night, with the temperature dropping to below 0 degrees. I could barely stand outside all bundled up in clothes that fit me. How did these people manage to sleep outside all night? Thoughts flooded my mind and I was in awe of their situation at hand. By the time we arrived at the last stop, we had run out of almost everything. People understandably took whatever they could get. A man took a bright pink, Barbie blanket and a pink hat; he was so desperate to stay warm. I couldn t imagine myself having to worry about these big issues. What seemed like critical issues to me in my life at the time were miniscule compared what these people were facing. I was dealing with things such as difficulty in school work and balancing a social life with my three jobs. I never had to worry about being warm or where my next meal would come from. That was every day for these people. The most touching part of the night was when I met the last woman I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Similarities Between Wilfred Owen And Siegfried Sassoon The poet Siegfried Sassoon saw that war was destructive and it should not happen because it was a waste of human life, Sassoon described the horror of war unsparingly, also, his poems were often based on actual incidents. Wilfred Owen focused his poetry on the particulars of war and the men involved: dirt, muddle, boredom etc, Owen often wrote about the horror of war and the dignity of men. He deeply felt a sense of the appalling wastefulness of war, casualties and the human spirit. The similarities between these two poets are they both tried to record realistic horrors of the war; to have it stopped. They were both angry at the war s brutality, they were also showed very compassionate studies of the circumstances of fighting men. The connection I made between these 2 texts is that they both experienced death, these texts are Memorial Tablet by Siegfried Sassoonand Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. In the poem Memorial tablet, Siegfried Sassoon wrote about a man being forced to fight in the war, the man fought for two bleeding years , but this man was shot My wound was slight, I was hobbling back; and then a shell Burst slick upon the duckboards: so I fell Into the bottomless mud, and lost the light. . In Dulce et Decorum Est Wilfred Owen watched a man choke to death by gas, Wilfred Owen screamed Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! Rhetorical Analysis Avatar Rhetorical Analysis Avatar (Cultural Assimilation) In James Cameron s critically acclaimed Avatar, there are many issues/disputes that are represented, but there is only one that especially stands out; cultural assimilation. Cameron s purpose for this is to better represent and portray the possibility of assimilation to today s modern audience. He adopts a visually stimulating tone to better impact and leave his viewers with a lasting impression of his portrayal, that will better convey the feelings of transgression in the supremacist audience he is trying to reach. This is known by the type of subject he is tackling and by showing a similar situation, unrelated to the textbook cover of Native assimilation, but leaves the same impact. ... It exposes the tender side of two worlds colliding, such as trying to make peace and attempting to learn both sides of culture. The contrast between the two worlds is shown by Jake Sully constantly moving between both worlds, the audience is eventually more exposed to the Na vi side just as Jake Sully is. • 10. Character Analysis Of Ziu Xiu, The Sent Down Girl Xiu Xiu the sent Down Girl is from the book Tian Yu, which is written by Yan Geling and directed by Joan Chen. The Chinese government is ordering kids to go around the country to start working, Xiu Xiu, portrayed by Li Xiaolu, is one of the kids sent to do so. She doesn t want to do this, but she decided if she were to, she would take up horse training, so she can be a part of the Girls Iron Cavalry. She is sent to the mountains to train under Lao Jin (Lopsang), a once famous horseman, now injured and lives a quiet life in the mountains. Throughout the movie as the two are living together, they have their difficulties, but it seemed like they had a good time. As time passes, Xiu Xiu is growing worry, because she hasn t received a word from her home or the government. As for Lao Jin, he realizes that he has feeling for Xiu Xiu, but due to his injury, he could do anything. Instead, he feels more like a family/ Father figure in her life. This part of the movie, is like the main character looking for hope and staying cheerful, like a child usually is. At the middle of the movie Xiu Xiu has waited a long time to receive word about returning home or anywhere. Until, one day a peddler (Gao Qiang) comes along, and informs her that the Girls Iron Cavalry has disbanded. That informs the watcher that she has been up in the mountains with Lao Jin for a long time. As they continue to talk, he tells her that she needs to make connections with people to find a way back home, which later means having sex with numerous men. This part of the movie, there are numerous sexual scenes and you can see that she is changing. For example, Lao Jin being the father figure, must go through knowing that she is having sex with multiple men and yet he does what he can do to help her and she acts very demanding/ rude to him. This part is very hard to watch, because it tells you that the little girl from the beginning of the movie is no more. Things start to pick up, when they are fixing up their tent and then showing her throwing up, suggesting she might be pregnant. Again, you see Lao Jin rushing her to the hospital and the movie suggest she had an abortion. This part of the movie is very sad, because she as the viewer, you know she will ... • 11. Les Miserables And Les Miserabless Analysis In Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoyevsky details the fall and redemption of a former student, Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov. Raskolnikov leads a fairly ordinary life, but makes a terrible choice which will haunt him for the rest of his life. He murders a pawnbroker in her apartment, and his mental health consequently spirals into a dark and chilling state. Through finding love and religion he becomes a better man, and decides to turn himself in for his crimes. During his time spent in jail, Raskolnikov learns to achieve happiness, and strives to have a better life after his release. Likewise, in Les Miserables, Victor Hugo uses the fictional story of Jean Valjean and his redemption to persuade those in power to change things for the better, using the four so long as statements, the trials of Valjean and the people of France, and the solutions that they come upon. Victor Hugo begins Les Miserables with a series of so long as statements that he uses in order to promote a change in France. The preface becomes one of the most crucial parts of the book because it exemplifies exactly what Hugo wants his readers to learn from his writings. Hugo leads his preface with questions concerning the laws and customs of France. He then goes on to distinguish the issues that commonly haunt families, such as poverty, starvation, and degradation. Hugo convicts France of seizing basic human rights from Its people, and deliberately suppressing those who he calls Les Miserables. Hugo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. A Complicated Kindness And Catcher In The Rye A Complicated Kindness is an adolescent novel by Miriam Toews, published originally by Knopf Canada in 2004. Inspired by her experience as a Mennonite herself, Toews crafts a story around a teenage girl known informally as Nomi. Nomi experiences the hardships of religious oppression only to let her familygive in first. Catcher in the Rye is, too, an adolescent novelwritten instead by J. D. Salinger. Comparable to A Complicated Kindness, Catcher in the Rye saw some inspiration for the story by Salinger s experience as an angsty teenager in New York. The resulting tale is of a young man named Holden who abandons schooling and his wealthy home to find a place to belong. These two narratives more than fifty years apart have some striking parallels about them. • 17. Argumentative Essay On The American Nightmare The American Nightmare It s fair to say that the United States is a postcard for success and opportunity, but what s missing is the equal chance for every US citizen to be able to achieve the dream. In America, we base our accomplishments on the success and failure of others around us. We have created a society built upon status, and therefore taken the Dream and stamped an unrealistic American image all over it. There is no doubt that there is a dream, but the reality is that for many, it only will be a dream. The gap between wealth and poverty is growing exponentially every year, and the struggle to achieve the dream, is becoming more and more out of reach. According to the CPS, More than half of America s working age families with children under age eighteen (approximately 20.1 million families) have annual incomes of $60,000 or below and on the opposite end of this, less than 3% of families earn an income of $260,000 a year. The benefits of being in a higher class based on economic and social status, labels the American Dream as invalid, where only the wealthy elite can win. It would be favorable to say that You go as far as your dreams take you , or, You get out of the system as much as you put in . Heavy cannabis use at a younger age can lower a person s IQ and as an adult this decline is not seen. Cannabis use can be associated or connected to many things involving cognitive function. One relationship that can be correlated is the relationship among cannabis use and neuropsychological impairment for teenagers. In the present paper, I will explain the role that cannabis plays on neuropsychological testperformance. It is hypothesized that persistent cannabis use at a younger age can be associated with neuropsychological impairments. I will explain my findings by examining a peer reviewed article and news article that was closely related to this article and study to support this thesis. In the Nature News article by Leigh Phillips (2012) it discusses two specific ideas that were in need of evaluation. First, is heavy cannabis use at an early age linked to IQ drops? Second, does decline mostly occur with users who start as teenagers? When looking at the Dunedin Longitudinal Study, an ongoing multi factor survey involving a cohort of 1,037 New Zealanders followed from birth, which now has over 40 years worth of data (Phillips, 2012). Participants in the Dunedin Study had been periodically tested for IQ and other neuropsychological indices as well as being asked about drug taking behaviors (Phillips, 2012). The substance coming out happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the mistake was made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them happened to be dropped, but the tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out. Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular tank was tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in order to heat the inside of it to keep the oxygen flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use these heaters to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC power. The thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both had different upbringing, different purpose to serve, different features, and different strengths and weaknesses. Also, it is interesting to note that one is a legacy language while one is much more modern, which we will explore these influences on how time and expectation of modern society could have affected the latter language. In 1959, a programming languagewas developed by CODASYL(Conference/Committee on Data Systems Languages), in an effort to create a standard for data processing to use across all computers. It was heavily influenced by the work of Grace Hopper, an advocate of machine independent programming languages. Its name was COBOLand it stood for Common Business Oriented Language, the sole language for business applications. Nowadays, some of the compilers available for COBOL are IBM COBOL, GnuCOBOL, NetCOBOL, VisualCOBOL, and MCP. Also, some of the IDEs available for COBOL are Eclipse, CANDE, OCIDE, and HackEdit. To begin, he recognized the concern of poverty, the future of young children, and accomplished his proposal on how to decrease the population, backing up his idea with statistics and reason. As Swift saw the melancholy everyday while walking the streets, The amount of poverty in Irelandwere at their worst. The streets, crowded with female beggars, followed by five or six children, all in rags, and importuning every passenger for an alms (P1). Due to the children burdening their mothers, this restricted the parents to find an honest living, forcing them into this lifestyle. Using statistics to explain further how serious this problem was. • 25. A Comparison Of Sirens And The Little Mermaid Sirens and The Little Mermaid There is a universal ideology that suggests that each gender plays their specific, individualized roles in society: men acting as independent, powerful alpha males, and women being their dutiful submissives. Contemporary narratives depict women as such whereas mythology is rich with goddesses and other female figures who are brave and powerful warriors equal to men. So if mythology can be overflowed with stories about female leaders, how come contemporary narratives have derived from that viewpoint? Sirens in Greek Mythology are a perfect example of the derivation to the new idea of women in society: weak. By examining the myth of Sirens through a feminist critical lens, the question of whether society is concerned with the ways in which literature and other cultural productions reinforce or undermine the economic, political, social, and psychological oppression (Brizee Web) will be answered. The mythological legend of the Sirens highlights the superiority of these figures who could destroy by temptation through their melodic voices; modern interpretations of sirens as in Disney s The Little Mermaid (1989) reduce the feminine power of the siren to a contemporary stereotype of the powerless, dependent, subservient woman. • 29. How Does Iron Affect The Body The mineral iron (Fe) is a crucial substance for the human body. Many parts of the body, including red blood cells, require iron in order for the body to function normally. Only specific amounts of iron are absorbed by the body to maintain homeostasis. However, iron is a very toxic mineral so if there is too much ironstored in the body, it can lead to serious consequences. People that suffer from haemochromatosis, a hereditary iron disorder, are unable to regulate the amount of iron absorbed from their diet. Almost all iron in the intestine is absorbed into the blood stream and because the human body has no major way to rid of excess iron, it is stored in organs and joints of the body where it can cause serious harm. Iron homeostasis is controlled though a negative feedback loop that involves hormones, including Hepcidin, which are released to control the absorption of iron. With haemochromatosis, the production of these hormones is affected. Over time, the build up of iron has a serious effect on cells in the body which can lead to other fatal diseases or even premature death. It is vital that the body contains a stable amount of iron. This level of iron is regulated through iron homeostasis. On average, people take in 10 to 20 mg of iron a day but only absorb 10%. Usually around 1mg of iron is also lost each day meaning the gain of iron equals the loss. This maintains iron in the body at a stable level. Iron and many other minerals are absorbed through enterocytes, absorbing cells that make up the small intestine. These cells are the regulators for how much iron is moved into the blood stream meaning they only move it if the body sees a need for it. Medical application the most importing and spread application is in robotic surgeries, it is a method so doctors can do small and precise surgeries that are hard to be done by them, or even impossible. Using small tools attached and managed by computer that is controlled by the doctor, the main surgeries are in brain, spinal cord, throat, knee, or heart (figure 1.1). These operations are... The second advantage is the robots precision that is needed for the sensitive operations. • 32. Honey Bees Pollinates Bees Save the Bees Bees are profound contributers to the ecosystem, but their population size is decreasing tremendously. Without them, key factors to everyday life will be negatively affected. The honey bees pollinates flowers. Pollination is when pollen is transferred to a flower s reproductive organs and enables it to fertilize. When fruits and vegetables are growing, they start of as small flowers on the plant, eventually becoming whatever food they are. Pollination is how the flowers are able to grow into the fruit or vegetable. The natural, and best way, a plant gets pollinated is through bees. Admittedly, some may argue that honey bees are not a necessity because there are alternate ways to pollinate crops. For example, other insects such as butterflies, beetles, flies, and wasps are able to pollinate (Gordon). Looking at this point of view, it may seem that bees would not be necessary for pollination. Bees are not the only pollinating animal, so there should be no need to protect them. These insects do not pollinate the same way as bees, so how do they do it? Active insects get covered in pollen when visiting flowers, which then rubs off onto the next flower visited (Gordon). Bees do essentially the same thing, except they do it purposely, making it the process more effective. In summation, because there are other insects that have the ability to pollinate, opposers of saving the honey bees think that it is unnecessary to aid them in survival. Bees however, ... In Sonnet 130 the author, William Shakespeare introduces a speaker who is in love with a woman he refers to as his mistress. The speaker expresses his love for her through a sonnet, but unlike other authors of his time, Shakespeare writes his sonnetin a more unique and humorous way. Shakespeare s excess use of negative similes and a mysterious tone change help convey the meaning of love on a deeper, more intimate level by showing that looks are not as important as one s inner beauty. He loves his mistress because of her humanity, the fact she is real and not an exemplary woman. The speaker claim that he has never [seen] a goddess go... Also in this paper the reader will learn what the similarities and differences John has from the Synoptic Gospels, what difference would it make to Christian belief today if the Gospel of John was never written, and what my favorite gospel is and why? First the question is asked, How is John similar to and different from the synoptic gospels? Is there evidence that John is aware of the existence of the synoptic gospels ? First we have to understand that although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is largely independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the synoptic Gospels have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a group of disciples, he taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the scene of feeding the five thousand. Having suffered the loss of her husband, her son, and her kingdom, Margret is a woman banished on pain of death (1.3.166). Nevertheless, Margret s pain is not limited to grieving. Bitter and passionate she returns to England seeking justice. Margret angrily declares to Richard III: A husband and a son thou ow st to me, / And thou a kingdom; all of you alliance. / This sorrow that I have by right is yours, / And all the pleasures you usurp are mine (1.3.169 174). In this line, Margret expresses her desire for retribution for her bereavement caused by Richard III and other Yorkist royals like Queen Elizabeth. However, as she no longer holds social power, she is only capable of pronouncing curses to the gods. Margret exclaims, Did York s dread curse prevail so much with heaven/... Can curses pierce the clouds and enter heaven? / Why then give way, dull clouds, to my quick curses! • 55. My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Budget Definition Not counting savings, I was able to come in under budget by $11.03. It was really difficult to create a budget on such a low monthly income. The first thing I did was to locate an apartment. The upper range I had in mind for my apartment was $400, and the cheapest one I could find was $399 per month. It was also very difficult trying to determine whether I wanted to drive a car. Since the expenses for car insurance and gas would be really high, I decided to not use a car. Fortunately, I got a job as a cashier at a nearby Walmart. Thus, I could just walk to work. In addition, I found it difficult to find a relatively inexpensive after schoolactivity for the kids until I got off work. The budget for groceries was also a tough amount to determine. Even if I use coupons, it would be difficult for my family to stay within the budget every month for groceries. Overall, I budgeted the bare minimum to my wants so that I could set aside money to my family s needs. In order to meet all the expenses and live comfortably this family would need to be in the middle class. I would completely disagree with them. Even if a poor person works 40 hours a week, it is still really difficult to get by every month, especially with family members to support. Many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
